This fic was based off of a mistake I found in the book. This takes place after Ella has agreed to marry Char. And yeah I know they're out of character. So read and enjoy.
"Watch this!" Mandy obeyed and watched as Ella ran up to the other sevvant. "Quick Nancy!" She said "give me an order."
Nancy sighed "Ella we're all happy for you but after seventeen times it starts to get a little boring."
"Please?" Ella said.
"Go jump off a cliff" was Nancy's reply.
"NO!" Ella grinned delighted an clapped her hands. "NO! NO! NO! I could say it a million times!"
"Isn't seventeen enough?" asked Mandy as she came over. "Give the servants a break Lady." However, she smiled and followed Ella as she ran out the door.
In the market place Ella ran up to a random merchant. "Give me an order she demanded."
"Leave me alone." the merchant barked.
"NO!" Ella then ran and left him standing there.
"At least she obeyed" he muttered.
The end of the day found Mandy sitting with Ella in her room. "I'm so happy you broke you psychological disorder." Mandy said without out thinking.
Ella put down her fairy book and turned to look at Mandy. "What?"
"Your curse. I'm glad you broke it."
"You didn't say curse. You said psychological disorder." Ella stared at Mandy.
"Well I meant curse" Mandy seemed to think this explained why she said psychological disorder. She took out a bottle of Tonic and Ella obediently swallowed some.
"Now tell me why you said psychological disorder." Mandy ignored Ella and hummed softly to herself. "If you don't tell me I'll make you give me an order." At this Mandy looked terrified.
"No please don't. I'll tell." She sat down next to Ella. "You weren't really cursed."
"What!" Ella yelled. "I almost got eaten by ogres and I wasn't cursed!"
"SSHH" Mandy hissed. Out of habit, Ella obeyed. "You were. You broke it awhile ago. Remember how Lady Eleanor ordered you to tell no one of the curse?" Ella nodded. "Did you ever tell anyone?"
"Of course not. I was ordered not to so I obeyed." Mandy rolled her eyes.
"Think Lady! In your whole lifetime, you never told anybody?"
Ella was silent. Suddenly her face lightened up. "Lucinda!"
"Yes Lady" Mandy said. "You broke the curse when you told her at the giants wedding."
Ella's face darkened. "So I didn't have to work for Hattie? I didn't have to scrub the floor? I didn't have to lie to Char? Why didn't you tell me I broke the curse?"
"I tried." Mandy said. "You wouldn't listen. I was confused. You still obeyed orders even though you didn't have any magic on you. I searched you for magic. Then I ran into a psychiatrist at the market. He said that curses are often replaced with psychological disorders and that you would have to break that. He also said that you probably wouldn't listen if someone told you that you weren't cursed. I gave up trying."
Ella frowned. "So I was just breaking a psychological disorder? But it was so hard."
"You thought you were breaking the curse" Mandy replied.
"But actually breaking the curse was easy. I didn't have any complaints. I guess I could break the order because I didn't realize I was breaking it."
"That's right." Mandy said "Everything was all in your mind. If you didn't know you were breaking an order then you mind didn't complain. Now you can voluntarily break orders."
"Or so I found out nineteen times today." Ella brightened up. Well it doesn't matter. It's all over anyway."
