Gyroscope, Part 2

"What are you talking about, Rose?" He asks her desperately, everything around them fading away.

Sadly she shakes her head, the trails of gold dancing over her dark eyelashes, "Didn't you ever wonder why I didn't exist in that alternate universe?"

Realization dawns, but there is no way he wants to acknowledge it, "People don't exist in alternate universes for hundreds of reasons!"

"But time can't exist in hundreds of facets," she smiles ruefully, "It only exists. And you know that."

As much as he wishes he didn't have to, he nods, feeling his eyes dampen "Only wish that time didn't have to take…" His throat closes.

"What, Doctor?" She gently demands, a hand encased in shimmering golden lace caressing the side of his face.

Breathing in her scent, jasmine and vanilla and something indefinable, he whispers, "The woman I love…"

And she knows it's the truth.

Suddenly her lips are against his, and it's the third time he's kissed her… But this time he can feel it.

The turn of the sun around the moon…

The earth spinning around the sun…

The solar system winding its way around the Milky way, winding its way around the universal heart.

Everything turning in a never-ending dance, all moving in time to her single heartbeat.

Slowly her lips leave his, and she murmurs in his ear, "Even Time can love, My Doctor. But now its soul must return…"

And so she embraces him one last time, the light within her beginning to pulse as she walks backwards, growing until she turns, power swirling around her…

The light explodes outwards, nearly knocking him over.

All that's left where she once stood is his ship, thin tendrils of power still gently weaving over its surface.
