Chapter 4

The next day, Blaine was trying to soothe one of his students, Tommy, who was always nervous and hesitant about his abilities and was picked on as a result. Blaine was trying some one-on-one time.

"That was much better, kiddo. You just need to keep your focus on what you want to do." Blaine smiled at him.

"That sounds easy, Mr. Blaine," Tommy said, eyes puffy from crying. After taking a minute to breathe, he nodded his head and part of a life-size teddy bear appeared, but it was missing both arms.

One of the other kids started laughing, and Tommy became discouraged again.

"Tina! It's not okay to laugh at someone who is trying," Blaine scolded.

Tommy gave up, and the bear blinked away.

"That's okay, Tommy. We'll give it a try again later." Blaine gave him a hug, feeling frustrated with his lack of progress with his students and tolerance.

Burt and Carole were talking in the kitchen.

Burt chuckled. "Yeah, I walked in on them making out. They hadn't gotten too far along. Clothes were still on."

"Burt! You shouldn't have bothered them," Carole said through laughter.

"I wanted Blaine to know we thought he was nice in the hopes Kurt invites him over again," Burt explained.

"Based on the way Kurt was looking at him, I think we'll be seeing lots of Blaine," Carole said with a knowing look.

"They seem to make each other happy, don't you think?" Burt asked.

Carole smiled. "Yes, they both seem to be really into each other and falling fast. I'm not sure they realize it yet, but I see L–O–V–E in the air."

Burt sighed. "It's too bad Blaine doesn't seem to have a good relationship with his parents."

"Kurt is very lucky to have you for his dad. Not all fathers are as understanding and caring as you are," Carole teased, and Burt blushed.

"Kurt is amazing and deserves every happiness. He and I were all we had after his mom died. I certainly wish he finds the happiness I had with his mom, and with you, sweetheart," Burt said passionately.

Carole threw her arms around him. "Oh, Burt, you're sweet. I love you."

Night had fallen, and Kurt was Facetiming with his highschool gal pal, Mercedes.

Mercedes gasped. "Your dad walked in on you two making out!?"

"Yes. I was so embarrassed! Thankfully, Blaine didn't seem to be too uncomfortable. He thanked my dad for being so great," Kurt said, laughing.

"He sounds like a keeper. Where was he when we were in high school?"

"Off in some private school, evidently. Safe from the cruel world." Kurt sighed. "So what are you up to these days?"

They talked for hours about Mercedes' music career, performing in malls, and waiting to hit it big, catching Kurt up on her last few months of activities. He loved Mercedes, but his mind kept drifting back to Blaine, who he would hopefully be seeing again soon. It felt like he was drawn to him when they were apart, missing him even after just the short time they had been seeing each other. Almost like magic.

Kurt focused back on Mercedes, and they talked for half the night before Kurt ended the call to get ready for bed.

On impulse, he texted Blaine. "Thinking of a very handsome man tonight. Hope all is well."

Blaine texted back shortly after that. "Oh yeah? Who's the guy you were thinking about? I need to let him know you're taken. Lol."

"Oh, am I taken by someone? I didn't realize I had become property." Kurt wrote back, torn between thinking it was hot and feeling like he shouldn't be owned by anyone.

He could see the "…" happening for a while before he got a message back.

"Taken, meaning, I hope I've won your heart, like you've taken mine."

Kurt blushed. "Are you for real? How can anyone be so sweet and romantic like you?"

"My feelings for you are 100% real and grow stronger every day. Wish I was there to hug and kiss you goodnight." Blaine sent while laying on his bed with a big grin on his face as he thought of Kurt.

Blaine and Kurt continued to message each other every night, chatting about nothing and everything with ease.

The following weekend, Kurt invited Blaine out for a day at the park. Kurt arrived at the park with a fully packed picnic basket for their lunch. He pulled into the parking lot and looked around to see if he could spot Blaine's Prius. When he turned his head to the right, he saw Blaine approaching the parking lot on foot. He smiled and got out of the car to join him.

"I was just looking for your car," Kurt said.

A panicked look flashed over Blaine's face, but then he smiled. "It's such a nice day that I decided to take a walk."

Kurt smiled again, leaning into Blaine to greet him with a kiss. "I brought a whole picnic spread for us. We just need to pick a spot to set up."

Blaine smiled. "That sounds wonderful. I've never had a picnic before. Shall we look for a great spot?"

As they walked through the park arm-in-arm, Blaine saw a nice spot ahead, but he wanted more shade for them. He directed Kurt toward something to their left and snapped his fingers, making the tree grow a few years older to be the perfect size.

As Kurt looked back to the right, he blinked. He didn't remember that tree being that big before.

"This looks like the perfect spot," Blaine said as he led him over.

They spread out the blanket and put the basket in the center. Kurt pulled out sandwiches, some wine, and bottles of water along with some fruit and snacks.

"Wow, you brought enough food for an army," Blaine said, leaning in to kiss Kurt on the cheek in thanks.

They ate and chatted, enjoying the sun and the shade from the tree on the perfect day to be outside.

"Thank you for making all this for me," Blaine said, smiling at Kurt.

Kurt blushed. "It's nothing. Just some food to help us enjoy our time together. Someday soon, I'll make you a special meal, just for the two of us." Kurt looked adoringly at Blaine.

"You're so sweet. I'm sorry, I've never been much of a cook to be honest," Blaine admitted.

"Don't be sorry. My dad wasn't much of a cook either, so I took over after my mom passed away," Kurt said wistfully.

Blaine reached out and held Kurt's hand. "I'm sorry for your loss. I can't imagine what that must have felt like."

"It was hard. I still miss her sometimes, but my dad has been great over the years, and Carole is amazing," Kurt said, gazing off into the distance.

"That must have been hard, adding another person to your family after so many years of just you and your dad," Blaine said thoughtfully.

"Carole is the sweetest, and she and my dad are really in love. We're very lucky to have her in our lives. Especially after my dad had a heart attack. She helps him to stay healthier, and she really cares about me too." Kurt teared up thinking about it.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you cry," Blaine said, pulling Kurt in for a hug.

Kurt smiled. "I'm just counting my blessings in life and feeling grateful. Things could have been so much worse."

Blaine kissed the top of his head, causing Kurt to fuss. "Not the hair!" He laughed, giving Blaine a playful shove and pulling him in for a kiss on the lips instead.

Kurt blushed. "You take my breath away, mister."

Blaine wore a giddy smile. "You do the same to me. I'm so glad you agreed to meet me for coffee that day. I'm the luckiest guy in the world."

Kurt's classes were going well, and he had a lot of free time. He wanted to have a fun date night that was different from anything he and Blaine had done so far. Something they'd both enjoy.

He messaged Blaine with his idea. "Hey, cutie, I was thinking about doing something kind of fun/crazy/different for our next date."

Blaine messaged back. "Sounds interesting. I'm up for most anything. What do you have in mind?"

"We both love music, so I was thinking we could–wait for it…try a karaoke bar! What do you think?" Kurt responded, excited.

"That sounds like fun! I've never done karaoke before. Why not?"

So that Friday night, they ended up at a crowded popular bar. Kurt was simultaneously nervous and excited. He hadn't sung since his high school glee club. Blaine was just happy to spend more time with Kurt, and he hoped he didn't sound too bad. He liked to sing in the shower, but he had never sung in public before.

Once inside, they headed for the bar for some liquid courage, mixed drinks to start them off. After a couple drinks each, they looked through the songs available to sing. A few people had their names on the list, so they didn't want to wait too long to decide. They both picked a song each and put their names on the list.

Neither of them were heavy drinkers, so they had a pleasant buzz after a couple cocktails.

Finally, Kurt's name was called, and he got up nervously. As a countertenor, he typically went for songs sung by women. The song he picked was a favorite, and, with Blaine here, it had special meaning.

Kurt stood on stage and looked at Blaine as he started to sing.

"I can feel the magic floating in the air

Being with you gets me that way

I watch the sunlight dance across your face

And I've never been this swept away…"

Kurt continued to sing out, his voice strong when he got to the chorus.

"'Cause I can feel you breathe

It's washing over me

And suddenly I'm melting into you

There's nothing left to prove

Baby, all we need is just to be

Caught up in the touch

Slow and steady rush

Baby, isn't that the way that love's supposed to be

I can feel you breathe, just breathe…"

Blaine was enraptured. Kurt had an amazing voice, and the song was beautiful. It felt like he was singing the words directly to him. His heart melted a bit during the song.

Generous applause filled the room when Kurt's song concluded. People didn't seem to care if he appeared to be singing to another guy.

It was Blaine's turn next, and he decided to do something old school.

"More than the greatest love the world has known

This is the love I give to you alone

More than the simple words I try to say

I only live to love you more each day

More than you'll ever know, my arms long to hold you so

My life will be in your keeping, waking, sleeping, laughing, weeping

Longer than always is a long long time,

But far beyond forever you're gonna be mine

I know I've never lived before and my heart is very sure

No one else could love you more…"

Kurt was amazed. Blaine's voice was magical. Wow. He could be a professional singer. What a smooth crooner he was, and the song was so sweet.

Kurt got up to get them another round of drinks. Then he decided to do something fun and silly for the next song.

They were both feeling a bit silly after the third drink, and Kurt surprised Blaine when he got up to do another song. Once the music started, Blaine started laughing.

Kurt had his own very sexy dance routine for this song. Blaine really wanted to reach out and touch him as he watched the performance.

"All the single ladies, all the single ladies

All the single ladies

Now put your hands up

Up in the club, we just broke up

I'm doing my own little thing

Decided to dip and now you wanna trip

Cause another brother noticed me

I'm up on him, he up on me

Don't pay him any attention

Just cried my tears, for three good years

Ya can't be mad at me

Cause if you liked it then you should have put a ring on it

If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Don't be mad once you see that he want it

If you liked it then you shoulda put a ring on it

Oh, oh, oh…"

Kurt stumbled a little, leaving the stage breathless and sweaty after getting a standing ovation for his number.

Blaine grabbed his hand and squeezed it tight. "Wow, I didn't know you could move your hips like that!"

"Did you like what you saw?" Kurt asked, slurring a little.

"I sure did. If we were in a gay club, I'd be all over you." Blaine winked at Kurt."This was a great idea. I'm having so much fun!"

Kurt said, "I have to tell you, your voice is magical. You could be a professional singer."

Blaine blushed. "Thank you, but I'm only a shower singer normally."

"You are depriving the world of something amazing," Kurt gushed.

They relaxed and listened to others perform for a while, just enjoying each other's company.

As the night wore on, several people came over and asked them to do one more song. They were easily the best singers of the night. Kurt and Blaine begged off for the first hour of requests until finally they decided they would do one final number before calling it a night.

"Let's do a duet! That would be so much fun to sing directly to each other," Kurt said.

They looked through the song book and came upon a song they both loved.

Blaine started off the song, singing the first verse solo.

"Never knew I could feel like this

Like I've never seen the sky before

I want to vanish inside your kiss…"

"Seasons may change

Winter to spring

But I love you

Until the end of time

Come what may

Come what may

I will love you

Until my dying day…"

Kurt came in, and they were singing together, harmonizing flawlessly.

"Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place

Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace

Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste

It all revolves around you

And there's no mountain too high

No river too wide

Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side

Storm clouds may gather

And stars may collide

But I love you

I love you

Until the end of time

Come what may

Come what may

I will love you

Until my dying day…"

They received a standing ovation, and they both took a bow and decided it was time to go home. They'd burned off a lot of the alcohol performing, so they were okay to drive by that point. Once they were in Kurt's car, Blaine leaned over and gave him a passionate kiss.

"You were amazing. I feel so lucky to have heard you sing. Just stunning," Blaine gushed.

"Right back atcha, sexy man," Kurt said, kissing him again, their tongues mingling as he deepened the kiss.
