Chapter 32. Hard to keep a secret
When the whole school was at fever pitch of Triwizard Tournament, there was nothing more frustrating than having to go to class as usual.
"I just had a sense of reality." Della complained. She had not been interested in this game before.
"Be reasonable," Hermione was not affected at all. "The first task will be held in a month, and there are two more. You can't expect that the school won't have classes for three months, can't you?" But Della's expression said she really thought so.
"Who is in the mood to go to class?" She asked, seeing that Hermione wanted to speak, she added quickly, "except you."
Hermione swept the common room, no one but her had textbooks in their hands.
They were all talking about the first task.
Fred, they made a gambling.
He said to Della, "honey, you don't have to worry that I'm going to lose this time - we're the banker!"
On the day of the arrival of Beauxbatons and Durmstrang, the Sports Minister, Mr. Bagman, who refused to pay back the money, came to Hogwarts, but he clearly had a knack for dodging debts. Fred and George went to him, but were nearly been docked by Professor McGonagall for "harassing guest". Mr. Bagman took the opportunity to slip away.
Della sympathized with Fred, but she couldn't help.
"Everybody believes him. I mean, he's an adult, a minister of sports, and used to be a very famous player. No one believes he owes two kids money."
She advised them to turn to Mr. Weasley.
Fred shook his head. "Dad won't ask for money for us. He said it would help us remember the lesson."
It's obvious that Fred and George had not been taught a lesson for their enthusiasm in gambling.
Hermione told her to leave Fred alone.
"Ninety nine percent of entrepreneurs will fail, and only one percent will succeed," she said rationally.
Della was certain: "they will succeed. I mean, Fred and George."
Hermione: "…Just don't lend them money."
Della was upset: "I want to…" But she spent it all.
"……" Hermione: "…This is the first time I think it's a good habit to spend all money."
A week later, Della still couldn't calm down, as other students did.
They couldn't settle down in books nor concentrate on their studies in class.
Here's Krum! And a group of beautiful French witches! Especially Fleur Delacour.
Cedric, the champion of Hogwarts, was also sought after. He used to be very handsome, as a Prefect, played Quidditch very well, but this was still far from the situation now.
"A lot of girls are pursuing him." Katie said, "he received a lot of letters."
Della: "But I remember he had a girlfriend?" Cho Chang was Harry's puppy love later in the book.
But now it's Hermione.
"Yes," said Katie, "they had a big row."
The gossip became the last news before snowed.
Another one was, Harry was stopped by a female reporter on the stairs after class. It was said that she came to interview the champions, but caught Harry to speak on the stairs for more than 20 minutes.
"She made me late!" Harry was not good at rejecting others, the witch seemed to be unable to understand his demand, and kept pestering him.
Hermione asked vigilantly, "what did she say?" Harry: "She asked me what I thought of Cedric as a champion."
Hermione: "What did you answer?" Harry: "What else can I say? Of course, no idea." He stopped and added, "I said I'm happy for him."
However, on Monday, the Daily Prophet wrote a long length article of Harry's feelings about Cedric becoming a champion.
Della read it all over, it was pretty good, but some of them were fake on the first sight. For example, according to the report, Harry thought Cedric had a few faults, and he was willing to offer some guidance.
Harry was startled to see the report put him on the front page. After reading it, he shut himself up among plates.
Ron sympathized with him as he read the article: "Wow… My mom loves reading her writing."
"No one will believe it." Hermione glared at Ron and comforted Harry, "trust me… There won't be too many people."
While, in fact, thing went opposite.
Hufflepuff didn't say much, but they were obviously a little angry. Because Cedric, who became a champion, was not written in the report, instead, Harry occupied such a greater length.
Slytherin laughed at Harry, saying that he was beyond his means and wanted to give guidance to a seventh grader, with his low mark.
Hermione was very annoyed, asked Harry to let them have it.
"You have to be number one this year."
Harry: "Me? No, it can't be."
Ron stood on Harry, "Hermione, Harry can't win you in the exam. No one can surpass you."
While Hermione had decided.
Harry and Ron couldn't change her mind, they both sat in a daze when Hermione went to the library to borrow books for Harry.
Della came up, "no one can change her decision. You should have known, don't you?"
Harry and Ron looked at her hopelessly.
Della shrugged: "Be reality. It's not a bad thing to study hard."
Harry asked her, "would you like to be first in grade this year?"
Della shook her head positively: "No!"
Harry bowed his head.
Della felt a little sympathy for him, she comforted him, "be happy, at least you're not a champion."
Harry didn't understand.
Della: "If you were a champion, you need to give a guidance to Viktor and Fleur Delacour now — maybe she would say you can win. That's worse."
Harry's mouth fell open.
Ron thought about it, flinched, and comforted Harry, "Yeah, now… It's not the worst, is it?"
Later on, Harry received a number of letters from readers. Some people thought he was too arrogant, but some said he really had something, after all, he defeated the Dark Lord, there must be some unknown power. They thought it was very noble that he would like to teach Cedric.
Even the people of Hufflepuff believed it, and people began to ask Harry if he really knew any unusual incantation, a very powerful one.
Harry had to stay with Hermione in the library every day, because there were not many Hufflepuff.
They occasionally met Cedric and Cho Chang.
Hermione said: "Cho is helping him prepare, and I see them collecting spells for further use."
Della: "Well…"
Hermione sighs, "No idea what the first task is."
Della: "Well…"
Hermione: "I really want to know."
Della: "…Oh."
She knew.
But she couldn't leak out!
It's hard to keep a secret!
For the sake of fairness and justice, she would hold back!
Della quietly asked Fred, "what's your gambling for?" Fred: "Oh, for who will win the first game. There we have three, now Viktor has the greatest position, so he get the most chip in."
Della: "I won't bet on him."
Fred gave her a sweet kiss.
Della: "Have you ever thought, what will they compete?"
Fred: "Honey, even as omnipotent as me, I don't know. I wrote to my father and he wouldn't tell me."
Della: "Oh… Do you want to know?"
Fred: "Of course. But it's all right since it will be known on November 24."
Della: "Oh…"
