Chapter 51. Exams finished! Where's my boyfriend?

In the dark Potion dungeon, which was always filled with strange smell, the fifth graders were fully sitting. They were like a group of chicks in the snow, all necked and motionless.

"Today, we're going to make the Scintillation Solution, a senseless potion, which doesn't do any good but make you stand out at a party." Snape said menacingly from behind the podium, his eyes fixed on Della Bush sitting in the back of the dungeon.

Della was reading her textbook as she whispered to Katie, "why not the Draught of Living Death?" He was supposed to teach it.

"Shh!" In a cold sweat, Katie tried her best to signal her to be quiet. In her cramped eyes, Della realized that Professor Snape was staring at her.

She immediately bowed her head and became a very tame chick.

Snape didn't let her go. "Miss Bush, please stand up. You're supposed to answer me the difference between Mexican beetles and American cockroaches, aren't you?"

Della stood up blankly and stammered for a long time: "Cockroaches are bigger."

"Very well." Snape nodded. A few sporadic laughter rose from the dungeon. "You're in fifth grade, and you can only answer me cockroaches are bigger. Hope I won't see you again in the advanced class next year. Five points off."

Della sat down quickly and shrunk into a smaller chick.

"What are you waiting? Go and make potions!" Snape waved his wand angrily. The prescription of the magic potion appeared on the blackboard. Everyone began to get the ingredients from the cabinet.

Mexican beetles and American cockroaches were in large glass jars, they need to clip them out and put them in a small plate.

"I · hate · bug!" Katie whispered.

Della nodded and hid behind Katie. All of them used two glasses overturned to hold the beetles and cockroaches away, because once they came out of the glass jar, they became energetic and eager to escape.

Some's beetles and cockroaches had escaped, they had to go and get them again.

Della and Katie went back to their seats. The first thing they did was to cut off their wings. Beetles and cockroaches both had wings.

Then they cut off their legs as they wouldn't run away.

After that, in the prescription, they needed to take the beetle's eyes and the cockroach's heart.

Della was so disgusted that she had to catch the cockroach, slit its abdomen with a knife, and take out everything inside.

Just as she was doing, Professor Snape came to her table and bent down to watch her operation.

She was a little nervous and squeezed the cockroach tightly. The cockroach let out a soundlessly scream, and its mouth and tail shook violently.

Professor Snape: "Rough operation. One point off."

Katie wished she could tuck herself into the table to avoid being seeing her cockroach from the professor.

Della felt she was very unlucky today.

—Professor Snape must be in a bad mood and venting his anger.

Why, why did she have the Potion class today on the first class!

When she barely made the potion, she didn't even dare to show it to Professor Snape.

She hid in the back of the line, until people in front of her had finished the score. She saw the potion of the last person was similar to her and got a D.

All right, she thought she would be a D, too.

She handed up her potion bottle and scanned carefully from the corner of her eyes. Professor Snape wrote a "T" on the parchment.

A T…

She got a T.

She came out unmanned. Katie was too scared to wait for her at the door of the dungeon, so she met her until walked to the stairs.

Katie quickly came over, handed her bag, took her arm and asked her, "how?"

"A T." said Della blankly.

Katie gave a gasp.

"He may be in a bad mood." Katie comforted her.

"Could be…" Della sighed. "I hope he'll turn a better mood on the day of the exams."

But fate didn't seem to be on her side.

Professor Snape was still in a lousy mood before the coming of the O. W. Ls.

This was probably related to the fact that he had to brew potion for Professor Moody, who was said to have drunk too much and vomited on the table of Professor Snape.

Gryffindor let out a disgusting sound when heard the gossip.

"If I were him, I wouldn't dare to drink the potion from Professor Snape." Fred said.

"I agree." Neville nodded. "That may be why Professor Moody is still in the hospital wing."

Professor Moody did lie very long. Della remembered after she had taken the potion, everything could be cured immediately.

Even Harry said he was recovered after a night when the year before last his bone in one of his arms was gone.

Nothing couldn't be cured by magic potion!

Seeing Della was upset, Fred comforted her, "honey, don't worry about your marks. I have only two Os, too."

Della nodded and took it. Anyway, she wished she would get more than two Os.

Hermione also comforted her, "don't worry, you can have at least an O, the Charms! I think you've taken this in the bag!"

Della shook her head and said in horror, "everyone says that! But I just invented a Hair-Removal Charm! It doesn't mean that I'm good at all the other spells! What if I'm wrong tomorrow?"

Hermione hastened to console her that she wouldn't get it wrong.

"You're just too nervous." She said.

No matter how worried and frightened Della was, the next day still came in.

She went in the exam room with the rest of the pale faced fifth grades. They would spend four days here.

There was quiet plenty of time.

But as same as other examinee, Della began to regret that she had spent too little time reviewing! Now it seemed that every book was foreign to her, there were so many contents she hadn't read yet!

She finished her History of Magic and Divination in a blank — She hardly read them!

Then, she took the Defense against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration and Charms. She planned to get two Os or three Es out of the three. Now she only expected three Es, and began to worried that she might not do as well as Fred, at least he had two Os.

In the exam room of Charms, a professor called Goshawk, asked her to demonstrate the Hair-Removal Charm in public.

She demonstrated it four times. Since she said the reason of inventing this charm was that she wanted to take off the peach fuzz quickly when eating it, so the props included a basket of fresh peaches in addition to a mouse.

After leaving the exam room, she guessed she could expect an O.

Then she took Astronomy and Herbology. Astronomy could be a P, or an A if she was lucky. At the end of the paper, she found that there's a satellite she didn't write down the name, which meant all the satellites in front might have been written in the wrong order.

She might have an E at Herbology.

However, Potion could only be an A or a P, or even a D.

She met Professor Snape in the exam room. God knew why he came to supervise the exam of Potion! Was this in line with the rules?

Everyone was nervous, a person around her knocked the fig off, and unfortunately stepped on it.

Finally, the sample she did... was fairly look like a potion, although the colour might be different and the smell could not be right.

But she finished 80 percent of the papers!

At least she could pass...

In the final exam of Care of Magical Creatures, she squatted on the ground cutting lettuce leaves, was sure that she would get an O.

There's no easier test than keeping a Skrewt alive for an hour. All the candidates were elated. Through their advertisement, she believed that more students would apply for this course next year.

At last, she finished all the exam!

"I'm free!" Della embraced everyone. "Now I won't know the result until July! I can relax for at least a month!"

"What's your plan for the summer vacation?" She asked them. Hermione shrugged, "I may be going to France for holidays."

Neville: "...Well, I'm not going on vacation."

Katie: "I'm going to Rome! I have an uncle there!"

Harry: "I'm going to my godfather's house! In two weeks!"

Della: "Great. I'm..." She began to look for her boyfriend.

Good. He's not here.

"I have no plan for the time being." She added with a black face.

Harry made a sign to Ron.

Ron stood up and looked around the common room without seeing his twin brothers. He sat down and found them looking at him, he had to say, "I don't have a plan. It would be good if Harry invites me to the Black's house... Ouch!" Harry gave him a prod. "Fred seems to have a plan, I've heard from them... Ouch!" Hermione trampled on him under the table.

Ron held his foot: "What's the matter? Why?"

Della cleared her throat and asked with a gentle smile, "I don't even know — what's the plan?"
