Enies Lobby opening: Sacrifice by 9mm Parabellum Bullet (Berserk 2017 opening)
They could only feel the sound of bubbles around them.
In the midst of the blackness, Sanji cracked open his eyes. His breath held, the predicament they're in is not a pleasant one. Everyone had been half way across the tunnel when the flood of water struck them. With no way forwards and too little time to go back, they were submerged.
It seemed that the end is closing in, Sanji's lungs were tightening by the second. He could see the others struggling similarly, all trying their best to desperately hold on to that last little bit of precious oxygen. Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Chopper, Chimney and Gonbe were all nearly drowning.
Then he felt it. The gentle waves flowing over him, before something held on to him and began to pull him in the opposite direction, the light at the end of the tunnel.
"Am I about to die?"
A moment of regret filled his chest, even now Robin was still out there, facing danger head on, and here they were, not even getting the chance to say goodbye.
"It's ok… Everything is going to be alright…"
Then a voice, a soft voice that brought a shred of warmth to his drenched soul. The water was obscuring his vision, but Sanji could've sworn he saw something…
There, swirling in the surf, a pink fish-like tail. It all made sense now.
"Legend has it, when sailors are lost at sea, when they're at the end of their hope, they are greeted by a sight of true beauty…"
"You're all safe with me… I won't let you die…"
"Accompanied by a voice fit only for an angel… and long flowing hair… they say the sight of a mermaid is the greatest pleasure one could experience…" He gently smiled.
"If that's the last thing I'll see in this world, then I'd be more than glad that it was a-"
"NGAGAGAGAGA! WE'RE GETTING OUT OF HERE! DON'T YOU DIE ON ME NOW!"
However, when said siren of the sea happens to be a drunken old lady whose age is clearly showing in the worst ways possible, the dream was promptly shattered into a million pieces, and Sanji only felt nightmare, a feeling shared by just about everyone else.
"Du-!"
"Du-!"
"Du-!"
"Du-!"
"DU-DUGONG?!"
At the same time:
"GET OUT OF THE WAY!"
"CUTTY FLAM IS ON THE WARPATH!"
"MY SHWORD!"
It was the last leg towards the galleon, Franky and Robin wasn't about to give up now. The remaining marines all charged at them, intent on capture. The recovered Spandam even unleashed Funkfreed once more, the sword morphing into its elephant form and attempting to bludgeon the cyborg with its trunk.
But Franky was done playing around. As Funkfreed stampeded towards him, its trunk morphing into its blade, Franky met the charge head on. Gripping the blade edge, he roared with effort as he practically lifted the elephant and proceeded to swing him around like a flail. The only result that came out of that was all the marines getting knocked around before he smashed him back down.
"NOOOO!" Spandam cried as he once again got the unfortunate end of his Zoan-Sword. Crushed by the now dazed elephant, Spandam was knocked out yet again.
"SUUUUUPERRRRR! Oi, Nico Robin, are you fit to get out of here now?"
Robin stood up shakily and gave a slight nod. The traumatic memories still plagued her mind, but she was determined to live now "Yes, I should be better now. Let's proceed with our escape."
Giving one more look towards the battling Kaiju-Zoans, Robin trailed after Franky as the latter blasted past one more score of marines with his rocket launcher arm. Then they were in the home stretch, the getaway ship finally under their feet.
"Now we just have to wait for the others…" Franky noted.
The wait was nerve-wracking; every moment the rest of the Straw Hats didn't show up made the duo worry about their safety. Meanwhile, the events continue to play out. They gasped in shock as they saw Luffy break out of the bridge tower and the four fighters met together in a power struggle. And they called out in fear as they saw them fall from an attack.
"Gian! Captain-san!" seeing the people fighting for her freedom go down like that was almost enough to make her run off the ship had it not been for Franky grabbing her arm.
"Careful! Don't just run back into the lion's den! Look, they're fine! They're getting back up!"
Robin let out a breath of relief as she saw the eater of the Goji Goji no mi rising to his feet alongside the captain, though her eyes continued to worry.
"Believe that they're going to do it, they'll win!" Franky reassured her as he also silently gave some encouragement "For now we need to stay put and find a way past all those ships and-"
"WE MADE IT!"
"WHAT THE ACTUAL SHIT?!"
With a big splash, the most unholy sea beast leapt out of the water. As she deposited her rescues Kokoro looked back at the flabbergasted expression her deceased best friend's apprentice and laughed.
"I think these guys saw something traumatic down there."
"…you THINK?!" Franky grimaced. Indeed, the 6 nearly drowned people were more traumatized than anything else.
"Is Nami-San alright…?" Sanji coughed as he regained his wits.
"Ugh… what happened? Did we die?" Usopp groaned as he came to.
"Ngahahaha! You can all count yourselves lucky!"
A moment of silence, then:
"AAAAAAAHHHHH SO IT WASN'T A DREAM! MERMAIDS REALLY DON'T EXIST!"
"It's like they say, when the sailors claim they saw a mermaid it's actually a dugong!" Zoro wept.
"Shut it! She hasn't even confirmed she's a mermaid yet!" Sanji tried to cope "There's no proof of anything!"
"Well to be specific, I'm an icefish mermaid." Kokoro revealed.
"NOOOOOO! MERMAIDS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE THIS!" the cook wept.
"Wow Grandma, I didn't know that you're a mermaid!" Chimney said.
"HOW HAVE YOU NEVER FOUND OUT FOR THIS LONG?!" Franky facefaulted.
"Wait a second… if you're a mermaid how are you able to live on land? When we saw you back at the station you had legs and everything!" Usopp questioned.
"You see, when mermaid get to around 30 years of age our tails split apart and become legs. Since you're probably going to get to Fishman Island eventually you'll see more of it there!" Kokoro explained.
"I STILL REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS!" Sanji cried.
"Oh come off it! How about a little manners I just saved you after all!"
"…Thank you Kokoro-baasan, we're very grateful…"
"Ngagagaga it was no trouble."
Robin had to smile at that "Everyone is still lively even in this situation." Upon hearing her voice It was only then that the rest of the crew noticed the beautiful archaeologist.
"ROBIN-CHWAAANNNN!" Sanji sang as he leapt out to embrace her, but what he got was a face full of mast when two others got there first.
"Robin! You're back!" an awokened Nami dove at the older woman, tears streaming down her face.
"I MISSED YOU SO MUCHHHHH!" Chopper wept. His entire body couldn't move after the stunt he pulled, but his emotions were enough.
And Robin genuinely had a smile for that.
"That makes all of us then." Zoro smiled. The happy moment was shatter however by a massive roar, which made everyone's heads shoot up towards the direction of where the bridge tower was. Everyone's expressions were turned to concern as they witnessed the titanic struggle.
"As soon as Gian and Luffy beat those two, then we can all get out of here." said Sanji "They're the ones keeping Lucci and Gylzar from coming after us right now."
"It's all up to them now." Franky agreed.
As all that happened:
"Urghhh, Gian are you alright?" groaned Luffy, panting hard. A cluster laser from Gylzar had caused multiple explosions around them, disorientating Gian and causing them to stumble around.
"They're really doing a number on us…" Gian gasped in pain. As his vision stabilized, he could see just how much destruction and carnage the island had gone through. Enies Lobby's gleaming white judicial buildings are all but rubble now as the cannons continue to bombard the island with no mercy, with smoke and fire covering the land. His heart sank; the last time he saw the Franky Family and Galley-La foremen, they were still locked in battle with the marines in front of the judicial building. Right now, he dared not think of the worst.
And the two of them were offered no respite either.
Soru is already a very potent technique, allowing one to quickly close in on their targets. When the user happens to be a Fully Transformed Kaiju however, that could be an unsettling concept. Yet Gylzar practically materializing in front of him, blades raised and ready to carve down, was enough to jumpstart Gian back into action. Luffy clung on as best he could as Gian sidestepped to the left, just as the scythe blade screamed past his body. The captain then jumped and dashed up the cyborg's arm, bringing his thumb to his mouth. Gear Third would be big enough to even cause damage to a Full Transformation, and that was Luffy's intent. But fate had other plans:
"You weren't planning on using that new technique of yours, were you 'Straw Hat'? Because you won't get an opportunity to again! Shigan: Bachi!"
Luffy screamed in pain, he didn't even get far as the pistol like shot was launched this time from Lucci's claws. The Captain fell backwards, the leopard man already leaping after him. Lucci dashed towards Luffy the moment he landed, both of them now on Gian's open palm as he reached out to catch his captain.
"Damn it, we're cornered!" Luffy declared. Gylzar was already rearing back for another strike. Gian growled; with Luffy near him that meant the Atom Pulse was a no-go, not that Gylzar would've given him the chance either. Instead, he had to resort to a much more primitive method. Gylzar squawked in alarm when the opposing Kaiju-Zoan user slammed his head into his, waving his blade-like arms wildly. The disruption was cue for Luffy to spring into action. A pulsing sound indicated Gear Second activating once more, he managed to leap onto the thrashing blades and pull himself along the flat of the appendage, just as Lucci's claws missed him by inches. His increased speeding allowing him the race up the massive Kaiju-Zoan user faster than he could retaliate. He continued to travel up the arm, all while Gylzar's screeches of anger sounded as he tried to shake the rubber boy off.
Now that Luffy managed to shake off his pursuer, it gave Gian enough room to shoot his arm up, in an attempt to dislodge Lucci. The assassin, bracing himself, tried to leap away, only for Gian's other claw to swat toward him the air. Hastily he used Geppo to maneuver himself around the more cumbersome Kaiju-Zoan user, attempting to reach his head to deliver an attack on his unprotected eye. But a nasty surprise awaited him, for the minute he was in sight, Gian simply roared and snapped his jaws towards the leopard man. With no time to dodge, Lucci was forced between two sharp points, though he managed to activate his Tekkai in a last minute attempt to force open the crushing crunch he was now trapped within. The bite however could clearly crush steel, as he could feel the pressure growing and his back beginning to forcibly bend! Desperately Lucci roared and gave one last hard shove, his strength coming through to slightly lift the roof of Gian's mouth for a bit. It did give him enough time to Rankyaku down the Kaiju-Zoan user's throat, causing him to cough and cause Lucci to fly out of his mouth as the turbulent gust sent him tumbling out of control. Gian growled, then witnessed as Luffy leapt towards Gylzar's head. The captain suddenly kicked his legs back before bringing his thumb to his mouth and mere seconds later his outstretched foot began to fill with air and expand!
"Gomu Gomu no Gigant Muchi!" he bellowed.
This close and with the size of Luffy's foot now easily the size of Gylzar's head, even the massive cyborg could feel the impact slam into his face, sending him tumbling with an alarmed screech. Luffy began to fall as all the air left his body, before Gian managed to catch him.
"Damn, Luffy! When'd you learn to do that?" Gian beamed.
"Ah! I just fill my bones with air and make them expand however I want!" Luffy grinned "Pretty cool. Right?"
"Well congrats, you've officially managed to knock out a Full Transformation. You're in the big leagues now!" Gian praised.
"I don't see how that was enough reason for you to celebrate…" the two pirates frowned as they saw Gylzar stagger back up. Luffy' massive foot clearly did something, for the side of his head was beginning to spark erratically and even his red cyclopean eye had been slightly cracked. Meanwhile, Lucci was breathing hard as blood streamed down his body; it had been fortunate he managed to fall atop Gylzar rather than into the ocean. The bite had been sure to fracture some bones, and had he not used Tekkai he was certain he'd been crushed right then and there. Still, the damage was noticeable, the pain in his legs are immense and every step he took felt like agony. This only furthered his killer intent however, as the two assassins promised in their heads to slay those pirates in the most horrific way possible.
"Heads up Luffy, they're coming back again." Gian warned as he prepared to strike again "I'll back you up, you go for another of those giant punches or kicks again and we'll-WAIT WHAT THE FUCK?!"
"Ah, dammit! That's the downside of Gear Third! If I use it a lot I'm going to become small!" even his voice is squeaky, for in Luffy's place was a much, much, smaller version of him! The Chibi-Luffy squirmed as he stood back up; he couldn't even see the tip of Gian's head this far down! The result of blowing so much air into his bones meant that, when it was time for release, he could overdo it and shrink himself, thus creating the unfortunate situation here.
"You have got to be KIDDING me!" Gian groaned. Big attacks have big drawbacks, but the timing could not be worse. It didn't help that Gylzar took this opportunity to charge at him with blades outstretched; Gian was only able to repel him with a well-timed tail strike. "Please tell me this wears off soon!"
"Well, from the time it took to run up that robot chicken's arm and the time I've held the attack, I'm guessing about half a minute to a full minute! I'll be able to fight again after that!"
"One minute tops, huh? Should be doable." Gian accepted "Now I just have to fight 2 on 1 and-"
"Rankyaku: Nightmare Buzzsaw!"
A spinning motion with his body and the cyborg sent out a massive spinning air blade shaped like the same circular weapon on his abdomen. Gian cursed as he dove out of the way, the attack carving into what remains of the tower, cutting clean through. Gylzar already took to the air in that time, his buzzsaw now spinning as he circled back towards his victims.
"Now if only they gave me that long…"
Gylzar already began to circle back, the buzzsaw spinning and ready to cut into flesh. With a high-pitch screech, he dove back towards the water. Gian grimaced as he braced himself.
"Hang on Luffy, if you fall here I won't be able to catch you!"
"Don't worry about me!" Luffy nodded "Just do what you have to!" Gian nodded as his tail flipped above the water again, gradually glowing blue as he charged it up with atomic energy.
"Atom: Stingflail!"
"Soru!"
The whiplike attack missed however, as Gylzar materialized behind him instead. Instead of bludgeoning his target, Gian only got a scythe blade to the shoulder.
"Shit!" he grimaced. Gylzar sneered at that.
"Gian! Are you ok?" Luffy cried out in concern. There was still a while before his body could become its normal size again. This whole time Gian had placed him on top of his head, where his chibi body was merely a tiny speck atop a massive monolith.
"And I still managed to cut you! Were you not even trying to sense my Aura anymore?"
Gian snarled; that wasn't true. This entire time, Gylzar's Aura surrounded his body like a black cloak; he sensed it throughout, and the pure feeling of darkness and maliciousness it promised to bring. However sensing is one thing, being able to react is another. At the speed he was going, there was little that he could do.
Gylzar screeched and swung his right scythe arm down, but instead of another Rankyaku, it was a projectile that was even worse.
"I can tell you're trying to protect 'Straw Hat' while he's vulnerable! I can kill him easily!" Lucci sneered as he was launched towards the other Kaiju-Zoan user. Landing on his arm, he Sorued up towards Gian's head, even as 'Beast Warrior' tried to dislodge him.
"Die, 'Straw Hat'!"
"Ahhhh! Pigeon Guy!"
Still small, Luffy could do nothing as Lucci picked him up, the assassin's claws digging into his skin as he screamed out.
"LUFFY!" Gian roared as he tried to buck the assassin off, only to be met by another swinging scythe from Gylzar. Forced to ignore Luffy for the moment, he had to throw up both arms to meet that strike. Atop his head, Lucci reared a finger back, intent on impaling the Straw Hat captain. He would've very much have succeeded too, had Gian not at that moment delivered a shoulder check to the cyborg kaiju, rocking Lucci off balance. The slight shift in his grip was enough for Luffy to wriggle free, and it just so happened that by then his one minute had passed.
"All right! I can fight again!" Luffy declared as a single pulse reactivated Gear Second. He was on the attack immediately.
"Gomu Gomu no Jet Stamp!"
Thus the brawl on top of Gian's head continued, all the while their two Kaiju-Zoan users continued to throw earth shattering blows towards each other. The sound of the two titan's strikes were nearly enough to drown out the cannon fire. They were moving farther from the bridge now, all while the 5 Vice-Admirals kept a steady eye on the process. Ducking under another arm slash, Gian retaliated.
"Atom Ray!"
Gylzar screeched in pain and frustration as the atomic blast smashed into his chest, causing him to skid backwards before falling to a knee. His single eye flashed, before he finally charged forward. As Gian once again met the charge, Gylzar changed tactics. Instead of expecting another blade swipe or even a kick, it was Gylzar's tail that suddenly sprang up. A black appendage, covered in metal plates, it was tipped with a barbed spike which was soon embedded into Gian's thigh!
"Did you really expect me to continue using the same moves against you?" Gylzar taunted as Gian roared in pain "Now, let me present to you a move that I was unfortunately denied the opportunity to back when we fought in the Tower of Justice."
On top of Gian's head, Luffy and Lucci's brawl was also at a crossroads, when the leopard man dashed forwards, palm outstretched and claws pointed towards the boy. Normally Luffy probably could've avoided such a straight forward attack, but something had held him back.
The repeated use of Gear Second was finally taking its toll; his stamina was hit the hardest, and his reaction time had long slowed. Thus, it wasn't until Lucci embedded his nails into him did Luffy choke on his agony, finally realizing he's been slowing down, and Lucci did not miss that.
"As I suspected, your doping technique is beginning to work against you. Worry not, the move that ends your life won't be that." Lucci sneered as he got into a new stance, a slight crouch as his placed his fists perpendicular with each other. Down below, Gylzar presented a similar stance.
"You are lucky, few have managed to witness this move in its entirety." The cyborg cackled "This is the move that will rend your body and soul!"
"For those of us who have mastered all 6 Rokushiki abilities, we are granted its ultimate technique. Now, die 'Straw Hat'!"
"I'm not going to fall here!" Luffy shouted as he tried to retaliate, but the two assassins have already completed their stances. For one second they only felt a slight pressure.
"ROKUOGAN!"
Then it was as if their entire insides have all exploded. The attack was enough to bring Gian to his knees, hacking and choking as if every part of his body had just ruptured.
"A-AAK! It hurts…!" Luffy choked out "It attacks me from the inside… it bypasses my rubber body! It's just like those Impact Dials from Skypiea!"
"This is an attack that strikes you from inside… it's gonna take me a longer to heal from this!" Gian gritted.
"Too bad you will never get the chance." Gylzar took in the defiant glare with relish. Seeing what the Kaiju-Zoan user was about to do, Lucci only smirked and Geppoed back onto Gylzar's shoulder as the latter began to hoist his scythes up.
On the ship, the 5 Vice-Admirals noted the change in dynamic. Momonga picked up the transponder and began another broadcast.
"We can now move to the next step of our operation."
"So it seems, then give the order to begin closing in on the Bridge of Hesitation. Prepare to capture Nico Robin." Onigumo sneered "But train all cannons towards 'Beast Warrior' Gian. Rain fire down on him the moment he moves."
The shift in atmosphere did not go unnoticed by the remainder of the crew, who noted the moving ships with alarm. Their fear was further compacted, when they saw the battalions of marines staring them down from the massive battleships.
"We need to get off this ship, back onto the bridge!" Zoro barked.
"Luffy and Gian are cut off from us!" Sanji shouted "The ships are blocking them off!"
"Granny! Is that big dinosaur supposed to be Gian-niichan?" Chimney shivered as she scooted closer to her grandmother "Him and Straw Hat Niichan getting hurt!"
"Do not fret, they'll be ok." Kokoro assured her, but even she had her fears.
Robin casted a worried glance towards the dueling quartet further away. To her horror she could just make out Gylzar's arm about to strike towards Gian's head. Then there was a gasp of relief, when the Fully Transformed form of the man that, she too, has developed feelings for, suddenly reared his head back and fired his signature blue atomic beam towards the cyborg's chest, causing him to stumble back in a shriek of frustration.
"It looks like they're still holding on…" Nami breathed a sigh of relief as she assembled her Clima-Tact.
"Meanwhile, everyone get around Chopper and Robin!" Zoro commanded "The marines will be upon us!"
"I'm not planning on being captured again." Robin stated, crossing her arms "I'm fighting alongside all of you."
"I'm relying on you all! I'm sorry I can't move right now!" Chopper said with remorse.
A few distances away, Gian managed to stagger back to his feet, his glare not leaving Gylzar's eye. Luffy, breathing hard, also got back up from atop his First Mate's head. Both are excruciatingly exhausted, but they couldn't stop, not right now.
"T-The ships are pointing cannons at us…!" Luffy suddenly noted with alarm. Gian's eyes widened when he heard that, and as he looked back towards the bridge, he realized that it was indeed so. The battleships moved in a line, some blocking their access to the Bridge of Hesitation, others directly behind Gylzar and Lucci as they backed them up.
"What?! What's going on?"
The answer was given when the next part of the broadcast is revealed, and it made everyone's blood curdle.
"The Buster Call is nearing completion. Presently, the reported number of pirates and rebels on the island, is zero survivors!"
"D-Did he say zero?!" Franky choked out "T-Then-?!"
"Paulie… Zambai… everyone was still on the island…" Kokoro noted with horror.
"H-how could they have-?" Nami's tears threatened to break.
But it was the next part that truly brought terror to them.
"Move onto phase 2! Concentrate all firepower on 'Straw Hat' Luffy and 'Beast Warrior' Gian-!"
"NO!" Robin shouted.
"-FIRE AT WILL!"
And their worlds deafened as all 10 ships erupted their payload.
When the first cannonball struck, Gian didn't even register it. It was when then third one smashed into side did he finally realize their predicament.
"They're trying to kill us…!" he gritted, as each explosion sounded his head was ringing, his body being blown bit by bit, he could feel his flesh being eviscerated.
"AAAHHHH DAMN IT!" Gian could hear Luffy scream out, defiant to the end. Instinctively he reached his claws out and covered his captain in an attempt to shield him from the worst of the blast.
"I won't… let you die…!"
"HE'S GETTING BOMBARDED!" Zoro shouted.
"Shit… at this rate… even they can't-!" Sanji cursed.
On the bridge, the remaining Straw Hats could only watch in horror as the warships unleashed round after round of cannon fire towards their captain and first mate. Unable to do anything to help, they could only stand preparing for the inevitable assault from the marines.
"WHAT DO WE DO?!" Usopp cried out.
"Please…no…" Robin whispered hoarsely "I can't lose you two…"
"LUFFYYYY! GIANNNNN!" Chopper cried out.
"Can we really do nothing?" Nami wept.
"Damn it…" Franky growled, both anger and grief in his heart as he still processed the tragedy that occurred moments ago. The cyborg shouted in frustration before rearing his head back.
"GET UP DAMN IT! 'STRAW HAT!' 'BEAST WARRIOR!' I WON'T FORGIVE YOU IF YOU TWO DIE HERE!"
And back with the two, Gian was growling in pain with each explosion.
"Damn it… everything hurts…! These cannons are relentless!" the waters surrounding them were sent up in splashes,bits of his body was getting chunks blasted off; even his regenerative abilities aren't keeping up with all the carnage. In his palm, Luffy was getting disorientated too; even he can't do much against that many ships and cannons.
A screech and a cluster of pain caused Gian to roar out. The situation was made worse when Lucci and Gylzar reignited their assault, not further away and throwing their own projectiles at them. The former kicking another massive bird-like Rankyaku, while the latter simply fired round after round of his optic laser, its beams scattering to all parts of Gian's body as the cyborg sadistically prolonged his suffering.
"WE HAVE TO FIGHT BACK!" Luffy shouted, but a cannonball exploding close to him made him tumble.
Then the voices came.
Even above the thundering of cannons, the two could hear it.
"GET UP!"
"YOU HAVE TO KEEP FIGHTING!"
"DON'T WORRY ABOUT US!"
"WE'VE GOT ROBIN SAFE HERE! JUST WIN THIS!"
"YOU HAVE TO WIN! THEN WE CAN GO BACK TOGETHER!"
Even with the ships obscuring their vision, Luffy and Gian could see them clearly.
Zoro, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, Chopper, Franky, even the old lady and the little girl and rabbit.
All were shouting for them to keep going, to persevere, to not give up on the fight.
To win.
But to Gian, the loudest message was from the one that didn't speak at all. Even through all the smoke and fire, he could see her clearly.
Her eyes said everything. They were appealing to them, pleading to them.
"Please make it back to us…"
"To me…"
Then a roar of the thousands, and despair began to set in. As one massive unit, the marines began their assault and swamped the bridge with their numbers.
"T-They're under attack! We have to-ACK!-do something!" Luffy cried out.
"Robin… everyone…! Damn it…! I have to help them!" Gian thought desperately.
But the cannons were relentless, if not actually increasing in ferocity. And one final screech, Gylzar was rushing at them again, scythe blades extended ready to finally end this. Everything seemed to slow down at that.
"RRRRAAAAAARRRGHHH! I WON'T LET YOU HURT THEM!" Luffy shouted with rage.
And Gian's mind was filled with the so many things, all scrambling with the thought he could lose them right then and there.
Thoughts of everything the crew had been through, the sights they've seen.
Memories of the good times.
He still remembered it all: Him and Luffy having an eating contest, a training session with Zoro, having dinner with everyone as Sanji set out everyone's favorites, pulling a prank with Usopp, doing Chopper's signature chopsticks dance together at a party, sitting out in the deck on lawn chains while sipping juice with Nami, who was instead drinking a marguerite, while the two of them wore sunglasses.
Then a memory he remembered clearly; him and Robin standing beside each other, their looked at each other from some ancient ruins while the moon shone behind them. It was the most vivid memory he had of her, back when they visited Skypiea, and it was the first moment he truly looked into the calm waters of the archaeologist.
And the pit of despair within him disappeared, along with the fear of looming death.
Replaced with resolve, then determination.
Then fury.
Breathing heavily, Gian began to stand. Even as the cannons struck his hide, he no longer flinched.
Instead, he chose to unleash something else.
"H-Huh?" Luffy suddenly blurted out. Something was welling out from his First Mate, he could feel it filling his body, but then… it feels like it was filling him too!"
"W-What is this feeling…? It's so strong…! I feel so powerful!"
The seas around Gian began to swirl, Luffy gasped as Gian's body began to sprout out wisps of blue fire, before the sparks became an inferno that surrounded both of them. The motion was enough to alarm the marine Vice-Admirals, and even Lucci and Gylzar was brought to a halt in a shock.
And there was only one thing that could be said.
"Leave… my nakama…ALONE!"
Then the oceans erupted. Waves began to rise, and the 10 battleships were being sent to and fro by the surging water. And above it all, a primal sound that shook the spirits of everyone present.
"SKREEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKK!"
"What is going on?!" Momonga shouted as the marines still on his ship were sent into disarray.
What came after was even more shock inducing. No one saw what it is, but they sure as hell could feel it. The waves, already crashing against the ships and bridge, were now rocking to the point where the some of the warships were coming close to colliding into one another. Others fared worse, the wood on their decks actually beginning to crack under the pressure.
But that paled to the overwhelming force everyone else in the vicinity felt. A surging power, it was indescribable, but when it struck it felt as if it were crushing them. Gylzar chirped in alarm as he felt himself feel fear for the first time, and even Lucci's normally stoic experession was one of shock.
"What is the meaning of this, Gylzar?!" Lucci demanded. The cyborg Kaiju-Zoan user chirped; Gylzar's emotions have more or less been suppressed in the decades following his obtaining of his power, but right now, he even dared to say he was intimidated.
"His Aura just spiked, but it was more than that! To think, him of all people, could possess the ability to use-!"
He didn't finish, Gian's eyes snapped to him in an instant. Another flash of blue, and an Atom Ray, fuller and brighter than ever before, speared into him and eventually pushing Gylzar back in a flaming explosion that engulfed both him and Lucci.
Each Vice-Admiral commanding the Buster Call were left shell-shocked and gaping at the sight.
"T-That couldn't have been-!" Doberman choked out.
But worse was what happened to some of the others. Each ship contained 1000 marines, all of varying ranks ready to deal out justice. When the blast of power washed over them, the result was horrific. Dozens of soldiers took one breath, then their eyes simply rolled back in their heads and they fell to the deck, fully unconscious. Those who remained weren't faring much better, all shaken and shuddering at the feeling of raw power that was presented.
"There's no doubt about it… WE NEED TO ELIMINATE 'STRAW HAT' AND 'BEAST WARRIOR' NOW!" Onigumo shouted. As the cannons pointed back towards the Giant Kaiju-Zoan user, Gian's eyes flashed with rage as the dorsal fins on his back illuminated with a blue glow. When the searing thermonuclear ray struck, the marines still on one of the ship had no time to prepare as the beam struck, utterly immolating the vessel and everyone aboard.
"EVADE!" Momonga shouted, and the ships broke formation to avoid the oncoming blast. One was unlucky however, and was struck by another Atom Ray and going up in flames, nothing more than a smoldering wreck sinking beneath the waves.
"We've lost Ship 3 and Ship 5!" a soldier who survived the razing reported fearfully.
"H-How could this be?!" that voice came from Vice-Admiral Yamakaji, who up until now had just been simply observing and quiet. Even his smile dropped from his face as he witnessed the carnage.
"We-We're not facing just a pirate… we're facing a true monster…!" Vice-Admiral Strawberry gasped.
Needless to say, the remaining Straw Hats were shocked to say the least. The Marines who were dropping down on the bridge did not fall unconscious like some of the others, but they were clearly shaken as well.
"Holy shit…"
"W-What did 'Beast Warrior' do? He just incinerated 2 warships!" Franky gawked.
"I have no idea…" Zoro breathed "But they're fighting back now!"
"THEY'RE ALIVEEEE!" Chopper cried.
"Yes… they're not going to fall here…" Robin whispered out.
"Which means we have to stay alive for their sake too!" Nami replied. It was good timing too, the mass of marines had just about gotten over their shock, and were once again focused on them
"F-Forget about what just happened! Focus on the Straw Hat Pirates! Bring them all down!"
"Come get us! We're not getting captured today!" Sanji challenged, and the group on the bridge were thrust into chaos.
Back with Luffy and Gian, the latter was fully on the warpath. His fiery breath descended upon a third warship unable to avoid the blast, all the while the cannons still rained down on them desperately. But this time, Gian paid little attention to the thundering guns, only marching forward intent on saving his friends. The flaming blue Aura still billowed around him, a contrast to his fiery auburn gaze.
"Gian… what did you do back there? It was like something exploded out of you!" Luffy noted; he himself was now standing upright again. He couldn't explain it, but the blue glow washing over him seemed to be pushing him to stand! When the wave of crushing power hit him, he wasn't all that affected, but the uncomfortable feeling was noticeable nonetheless. For some reason, it reminded him of something he's experienced as a kid, back in that water when it was just him and Shanks…
"If I knew, I would've pulled it out at the beginning of the fight." Gian replied "It seemed to have done the trick though, I feel the need to push forwards and save everybody!"
"Right, we can't let them down!" Luffy agreed. Before they could take another step however, a red hot laser carved itself between them and the bridge, travelling until it destroyed the bridge tower, along with parts of the bridge itself. The two pirates braced themselves; their fight wasn't over yet.
"Do you truly think you have changed anything? That you can attempt to save anyone?" a shower of water erupted as Gylzar landed from the sky "You've officially showed that you are far too dangerous to be left alive!" He swept an arm towards the battle on the bridge, where they could all see the Straw Hats holding out against tides of marines "Even now, their survival hangs by a thread! What will they think when your blood runs the oceans red? What will Nico Robin think when she sees the two of you fall just short of saving her?"
Gian only roared before charging at the Cyborg Kaiju-Zoan user, the two Full Transformations coming together once again in a thunderous crash. This time, both attacks were merciless with Gylzar's blade carving a massive cut down Gian's midsection as he received a radiation enhanced punch to the side of the face. Gian powered through the attack completely, pushing through the pain from the attack earlier. The blue glow that he was bathed in still surrounded him, and each punch seemed to rock Gylzar's entire structure to the point where his bones just might dismantle from the impact.
Meanwhile, Lucci sprang and Luffy again, claws grappling with fists. The leopard had taken his much more bulky form once again, intent on using power to blow past his foe. Multiple parts of his fur had been singed in the explosion earlier, but that wasn't enough to take him down just yet. However, his opponent was displaying strange signs. It could be a trick of the eye, but was Monkey D. Luffy surrounded by some form of blue energy too? Indeed, 'Straw Hat' was emitting a coat of the same azure glow that 'Beast Warrior' had, albeit smaller in size, or was it being shared with him? Even his eyes, once a solid black color, took on the same amber shade as the Kaiju he rode on.
"This newfound determination of yours will be for naught! Do you still think anything will change? No matter what happens, be it this island turns to ash or anything else, I will pursue that woman to the ends of the world and destroy her alongside all who opposes the World Government!"
"I WON'T LET YOU!" another pulse, and steam mixed with the blue Aura surrounding him as Gear Second activated again. No matter the strain, no matter the stress, Luffy wasn't about to just give up here.
"Gomu Gomu no… JET GATLING!"
"Shigan…MADARA!"
Rapid claw jabs faced off against nearly invisible punches, the two attack rushes sounding the clash of skin. However, boosted like this, Luffy threw out twice as many attacks, and soon Lucci found himself overwhelmed. Now each punch landed cleanly on his body, with the extra power Lucci felt as if multiple industrial presses slammed into him at once. With one last scream and one hard punch to end it, Lucci was sent flying backwards onto the top of Gylzar's head, the two assassins smashing into each other as Gylzar stumbled back from the impact.
"…Don't think… YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN UTILIZE AURA!"
By now, the winds around Enies Lobby had picked up to a gale, howling in response to what Gylzar had done. Black bolts of energy arched off of him, before erupting and covering him in a similar cloak of black with red streaks. And the cyborg struck immediately, gliding at Gian as his blades struck one after another. Luffy tried to leap up for another Gear Third attack, but found Lucci ready for him. This time the leopard man was surrounded by a similar black aura, and one single claw swipe felt like fire in his veins. Luffy cried out in pain as he was sent skidding onto Gian's head, just as the cyborg monster smashed both curved bladed down Gian's chest, causing him to falter too in a spray of blood.
"DIE!" Gylzar's eyes crackled for a split second before another laser fired, soaring through the air before branching off and striking every inch of Gian's body, causing him to roar out in agony. Still on the attack, the cyborg's buzzsaw began to spin rapidly as it began to crackle with energy too.
"Rankyaku: Nightmare Wheel!" rather than shooting out one air blade, this particular attack sent out countless slashes that rained down upon Gian's flesh and cutting like a knife through hot butter. Both pirates could feel themselves getting lacerated, shouting in pain as they braced themselves.
"Gylzar! Eliminate them!" Lucci shouted as he suddenly flipped off of the cyborg's head, to a spot right at the back of his skull. Placing his fists one over another, they were about to unleash one final attack.
"Disappear from this world!" Gylzar's eye began to shimmer with iridescent light "Rokushiki Ogi-"
"They're planning something big!" Luffy warned.
"Damn it! Can't dodge it in time!"
"-SKYPIERCER ROKUOGAN!"
It was a combination attack, and a devastating one at that. Using a normal Rokuogan amplified by the ruby crystals of Gylzar's cybernetic eye, mixing with one of his lasers. The resulting beam had powered up to the point where it easily engulfed Gian's upper body, and both and Luffy were consumed by it.
And the attack was deadly too, a mix of both the internal shockwave and the searing heat of a laser. It both burns and crushes, and when it ended, both Luffy and Gian were just barely hanging on. Their insides felt as if they were about to explode, any internal bleeding was boiled by the heat. With a heavy crash, Gian fell to his hands and knees, head drooping down and seeping blood, while Luffy could hardly get up.
Vaguely, they could just make out Gylzar striding over, one arm raised ready to finally execute the vision of Justice upon them. A blade that will send them to the embrace of death.
And then something else was heard.
"LUFFY!" and that made Gylzar pause, his eye darted over to the bridge. By now the ends of the structure have long been destroyed, parts of steel and concreate still jutting out, but one lone figure could be seen clearly, even as the rest of their crew struggled against the squads of marines, this one stood out from the others, away from the chaos.
"U-Usopp…?" Luffy choked out.
"He's not wearing the mask anymore…" Gian noticed.
"WHY ARE YOU LYING DOWN?! WHY ARE YOU GIVING IN TO DEFEAT?!" indeed, the sniper chose now to discard the clown mask he used to disguise himself as 'Sogeking'. Appearing in front of his captain, all memories of their previous conflict gone, his voice rang out over even cannon fire and the sound of battle.
"When did you get here…?" Luffy croaked out.
"DON'T THINK I CAME BACK BECAUSE I MISSED YOU! I ONLY CAME TO HELP SAVE ROBIN!" Usopp shouted "AND THIS NEXT PART IS DIRECTED TO THAT CAT MAN AND THE ROBOT TURKEY!"
"Which individual is this, Lucci?" Gylzar growled.
"He was the one that shot down the flag." Lucci snarled "It seems he's lost his mind."
"I BET YOU'RE BOTH SCARED OUT OF YOUR WITS NOW! FROM THIS INSTANT, I'LL TAKE YOU BOTH ON! REMEMBER THIS MOMENT! THE AMAZING CAPTAIN USOPP WILL SEND YOU BOTH TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA!"
"What are you doing?!" Luffy cried out "Stop! You'll be killed!"
"AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW?! YOU'RE HALF DEFEATED ALREADY!"
"NO! WE'LL BEAT THEM!" Luffy shot back.
"Don't say that Usopp!" Gian gritted "We're going to do this!"
"THEN STAND UP! BOTH OF YOU!" Usopp bellowed "AS THE CAPTAIN AND FIRST MATE, WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE YOU'VE BOTH ALREADY DIED? EVEN THROUGH THE SMOKE AND CLOUDS, WE CAN STILL SEE THE SKY! WE KNOW THIS ISN'T HELL, SO QUIT ACTING LIKE IT'S THE END!"
"WIN! AND WE CAN GO HOME TOGETHER!"
That last declaration was interrupted as Gylzar landed right in the open gap where the bridge was, sending a shower of water upwards as he looked down. At this height, the sniper was a mere speck. Usopp stared defiantly at the cyborg, even as his knees shook so fast they're almost invisible, and his heart was almost beating out of his chest.
"An interesting speech, one spoken only to those who still think they have hope." Gylzar's eyes blinked red as it charged up energy "You will be the first to perish, this will be over soon-GRAAAAH!"
Gian's flaming fist soon put an end to that tirade, sending Gylzar spiraling through the air before landing on his feet. His Aura billowing again, he began to gather power.
"Heh, to think the liar had to give me a wakeup call! I gotta step up this whole First Mate business!"
"Come on Gian! We'll beat them here!" Luffy bellowed.
"Lucci! One more attack!" Gylzar howled. Lucci growled as he got into position.
"I won't let that his me again!" Gian's dorsal fins began to flash blue, lighting up the dark area.
Then red.
"Rokushiki Ogi-"
"Atom Ray-"
Then two pairs of crimson blasts fired, colliding in the air in one earth shattering blast.
"-SKYPIERCER ROKUOGAN!"
"-SPIRAL!"
Gian's aura changed, what was once blue was now a solid red. The thermonuclear ray he fired now a crackling with energy, red as the setting sun and swirling around the heat ray. The two beams met in a power struggle, sending the waters around them frothing and surging.
But powerful as it is, the combination attack from the two assassins had one advantage. In addition to a beam weapon, it had a part that could not be blocked.
And as the beams pushed against one another, the shockwave passed through regardless, forcing both captain and First Mate into another seizure of pain. Since both attacks were held, they were constantly struck with the focused power, and Gian could feel his ribs and organs beginning to tighten.
But still he held on.
"If I fall here… I'd have let her down… I'd have let all of them down!"
Out of the corner of his eye, he could see her. Even now she stood out amongst the fighting. Her arms were crossed, her ability grasping multiple marine soldiers. During the power struggle both sides had stopped fighting for just a brief moment, and it was then that their eyes met each other again. He could see Robin looking on bravely, hoping for the best.
"Ever since your home island was destroyed, not a single day did you rest easy…"
"You had to lie, steal, kill, doing everything just to make it to the next day."
"Constantly looking over your back, not knowing when someone will betray you…"
With a roar Gian poured more energy into his Spiral Ray, digging his heels in just to keep from falling. The Rokuogan portion of their foe's attack still rending his insides, blood was leaking out of his eyes and mouth, yet he still pushed forwards. The red Aura, flaming and swirling, were now whipping wildly.
"From this point forwards, I'll make sure you never have to return to that life ever again! I promised you I'd take responsibility for your life back in Alabasta. I want to see you travel with us…! I want to be there when you finally find the True History…!"
"Just disappear already!" Gylzar howled, him and Lucci applying more pressure "Disappear like all those who dares to oppose the World Government!"
Gian roared back and forced more energy through his beam, but it seemed he was making no progress.
Because it was not him that finally pushed it over the edge.
It was not a whimper or a bang that finally turned the tide, but the roar of a captain determined to protect his crew.
"AS IF… I'LL LET YOU TAKE HER!" Luffy howled as he staggered up. Even as his body screamed and on the verge of breaking, the 'Straw Hat' Captain's defiance was true. The red Aura surrounding Gian had once again enveloped him as well, making it seem as if he had his own aura cloak.
And the last thing people expect was Luffy leaping towards the center of the beam. He bit down on his right thumb.
And blew.
"IS HE MAD?!" the marines on the remaining ships all gawked.
"LUFFY!" Zoro screamed from down below.
"HE'S GOING TO BE DESTROYED BY THAT!" Nami shouted.
"Luffy..! What are you trying to pull?" the action almost made Gian panic, he nearly ended the attack there out of concern for his captain. But it was what happened that made him press on.
For Luffy's fist expanded to giant size.
"AAAAAAAAHHHHH!" the captain roared as he felt the surging energy from both attacks strike him as he dipped his fist into the colliding beams. The bit of Aura transferred to him from Gian however, seemingly blocked out the worst damage.
It was enough to do what has to be done. The surge and velocity of Gian's attack began to push him towards the two assassin, Luffy shooting towards the like a meteor, the aura still reacting with his fist.
And his giant fist absorbed it all, a spiraling mass of Atomic energy tipping his punch. The super charged punch was enough to contest the Skypiercer Rokuogan! The pain was still immense, but Luffy no longer thought of that.
Instead his mind was on all the things that happened to Robin these past few days.
And he was going to put an end to it all.
"Gomu Gomu no…"
"IT CAN'T BE!" Lucci shouted.
"Gigant…!"
"KIRAAARRAAAHHH!" Gylzar roared one last shriek.
"…GEIGER PISTOL!"
Gian and Luffy roared their final attack out together, and the massive punch forced its way through the beam lock. Luffy's fist was glowing red now, and when it struck, there was only one result.
A flash of light, then a powerful explosion.
"RRRRRRRAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!"
Luffy's bellow of exertion could be felt by all. The target? Gylzar's face, and the punch's impact was immense.
Roaring in defiance, Gylzar could feel the metal portions of him cracking and buckling. He tried to force himself against it, but there no contest.
Because the Spiral Ray was striking him too.
And bearing the worst of it was Lucci. Caught in the crossfire of both, the heat and power was overwhelming for the leopard man.
And it all ended with one last heavy explosion, and the two assassins were sent flying.
Crashing past the final remains of the Tower of Justice, Gylzar and Lucci landed heavily, the cyborg Kaiju's body carving a trench into the ground as he landed.
And when they did, it was truly over. Gylzar's eye flickered slightly, before dimming. His entire upper head and torso busted, the wiring and steel pulverized and sparking. Meanwhile, Lucci was unconscious before he even hit the ground. The leopard man lay there in a pool of his own blood, truly defeated.
And with that, the two strongest of CP9 had finally fallen.
Back with Luffy and Gian, only when they saw their foes not get up did Luffy finally release all the air inside of him. Blowing backwards like a loose balloon, Luffy landed in Gian's palm as he staggered over to catch him. His right arm was crackling with energy, he couldn't even move it. Not to mention he's once again shrunk to the size of a child.
"W-We did it…" He breathed out.
"WE'RE GOING BACK TOGETHER, ROBINNNN!"
And at that declaration, it seemed like the heaviest weight had been lifted off her chest. Robin shed a tear as she smiled; for so long, she thought she couldn't trust anyone. Yet right in front of her were a group of people willing to move heaven and earth just to see her free.
And the two who stood between her and destruction just announced it for all to witness.
As the marines overcame their shock, another sound began to rise. One that made them freeze in mortal terror again, one that gave no room for defiance.
"SKKREEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKKKKKK!"
The roar was primal, dominant, and accepted no equal. Gian's massive frame stood out to all, the air of ancient power all around him, His Will clear and true.
For this was the roar of a King.
A King of Monsters who spells defeat for all that opposed Him.
A/N: And that's all. The main event, the moment we've all been waiting for.
I had been waiting for this day for so long, I've dreamed that this day would finally happen and here it was.
The most well-known part of the Pre-Timeskip, finally adapted within this story. It's all I've been looking forward to.
With this being done, it's like a chapter of my life had just been completed. The next time we start, we'll be moving on to other parts of the story, but this part will remain forever.
Or at least, that's how I hope people will see it. I had a bunch of ideas for how this fight would turn out, and I have to admit the end result was kind of outrageous even for my standards.
G: Can we say jumped the shark? Because holy shit!
Honestly this was the feeling. I don't know how people will take how the final act happened, and I'm sure there will be a lot of varied opinions, but that's how it happened, and what I envisioned how I wanted the final battle to be like. I will admit some of the ideas I had in this chapter was completely unexpected and out there, but I wanted to make my own mark on the story, yet still remain enough to make it seem like the how awesome the fight was in canon. Also I apologize if some characters seem a bit OOC at times. Well, what's done is done, so tell me what you think.
G: So what will we do now?
We continue onwards of course! The most anticipated part of Enies Lobby may be finished, but the story is not done! The next few chapters are more mellow and easy going, just tying up some loose ends and adding a bit more for storylines even further own the line. Next chapter especially will be another thing I'm been planning for a long time. Hint: It's Gian and Robin related!
And lastly, I'm proud to announce that we have finally hit over 1k followers and favorites! In the almost 5 years since I've started this, to create something that so many people enjoy is just an amazing feeling! I will continue to try and live up to people's expectations, and make sure to balance this story with my hectic university semesters!

Balancing the two is something I have issues with, though combat dialogue is needed at times. Since I don't have the luxury of drawing things, I have to be descriptive and write everything else like it was an actual fight. There will be talking at times, but still plenty of blows.

I mean, aside from that little bit in the beginning which there's no way I'm leaving out since that's just a part that's way too funny not to put in, the recent chapters haven't been that comedic. Just because I put a few pop culture references for Gian to use doesn't mean the entire story has been like that. There's plenty of serious and even darker moments in this story. One Piece already has a large amount of humor in it, and if I'm completely honest I've been putting in far less than what happens in canon.

I didn't address this yet, but don't expect the final battle of Thriller Bark to end the same way in canon. I have a really big idea for it and am in the planning process for that! As for Gian's sisters, you be hearing from them later!
