Chapter 57. Pride and prejudice

There were so many rooms in the Black family that everyone could have a room.

George and Fred shared the same bedroom, as they always did.

Back to the bedroom, Fred sat down on the sofa, took out the parchment they had spent months on, but kept drifting off.

George: "Bro, if you want to cry, I'll be here anytime."

Fred threw the pillow at him. "Screw you!"

George: "Well, what do you think? Say something."

Fred sighed deeply, "nothing." But he couldn't hide it from his twin brother.

George: "I even want to cry. Don't make me feel so bad, okay? For the first time in my life, I live in such a big room! Let me be happy. Come on, you... wanna break up with her?"

"No!" Fred sat up immediately. "No! Of course not! Never! Absolutely not!"

George: "I'm not surprised at all. Then, why are you so sad? For she doesn't want to marry you? Hermione explained it very clearly. I didn't understand, but I can probably absorb it. It's like each of us is an apple while she is an orange. Apart from that, she's no different from us."

Fred shook his head. "No. Not because she doesn't want to marry me." He looked up as if to tell him he got an incurable disease: "I just... hate myself."

George replied him with silence that he was here, waiting for his twin brother pour out his grievances.

Fred did need a person to listen to him.

"I thought I loved her. Of course I do." Fred rubbed the pillow in his hand, was frustrated and sad about himself, "but obviously, it's just my thought. I don't even know what's on her mind!" He took a deep breath, "I need to ask help to another person!"

George comforted him: "Hey, bro, don't be too hard on yourself! It's not your fault, nobody would think of it."

Fred shook his head. "It's different. Before that, I had never had a comprehensive understanding of her! Before today, I didn't even know why she ran at that time." He bowed his head, was depressed and upset, as well as disappointed in himself. "I really don't have a clue. I can't think of anything. I thought our relationship would work out without extra effort. I thought we're all right, I thought she's all right. But now, I find out that she's not what I thought she was."

George gave a hum, "bro, you know what, I'm starting to get comfused. What are you trying to say?"

"I need to do something." Fred murmured.

He got up and knocked on Harry's door again.

Harry opened the door. Fred asked: "May I have a word with Hermione again?"

"Of course." Harry got out of the way and asked him in.

Hermione was cleaning up the books on the desk. She was tutoring Harry and Ron, while Ron had just gone down to the kitchen to look for the cake left over from dinner on the pretext of "my head is going to explode".

"What's the matter?" She turned and asked Fred, "It's about Della?" Fred nodded. "I want to know... you know, about her..." He hesitated, as if considering the wording.

Hermione waited him patiently. But in the end, he shook his head, "no, I should... Good night, Hermione. Anyway, I need to thank you."

After He went out, Harry came up in comfusion, "What's the matter?" He asked Hermione.

She remarked caustically: "As soon as found his girlfriend wasn't his Barbie doll, he went to another girl for asking what kind of his · live · girlfriend was like."

Harry was amused, "don't be so mean. Fred's not that bad, he does love her."

"I know." She pushed herself from the table and sighed, "you know what, I guess it's Della who spoilt him."

Harry: "What?" He thought Della was irritable and often had rows with Fred — of course, it's probably his fault. However, Harry didn't think Della gave in so much.

Hermione gave Harry a smile, "well, I used to think love's far away from me, but this year there were so many couples, it taught me a lot."

Harry glanced at her two stacks of books, "you can always find chance to study."

Hermione shrugged. "It's nothing. I just skimmed over them. Something has been studied, only I have to do is to verify it."

Harry: "I saw you bought two psychology books. You can have a mental counselling as soon as you finished those books."

Hermione tried not to be too proud, "you flatter me. I only analyzed for her and did a few quetions. Oh, it's very easy."

Harry: "why did you say Della spoiled Fred?"

Hermione held the book, hesitated for a moment before she sat down and started. "Because in their relationship, Della is the one who takes the initiative. And the way she shows love is to dedicate herself. She loves everything about Fred! All of them!"

Harry dodged back, feeling a little warm blush rise to his cheeks. He's not used to talking about love, even if it's someone else's.

Hermione, on the other hand, was engaged in conversation, she sped up, "Love has different definitions among people. Take Ron as an exmple, his love is the demanding love, he needs his partner to meet his desires. Although unconscious, while in love with Lavender, he's just like Grandet. He is always taking in, but seldom thinks about what she needs him to do in love, what he does would make her happy."

Harry sort of understood, "So, you mean, when with him, she's prone to meet his desires?"

Hermione sighed and lowered her head, with a trace of unhappiness and guilt.

"Yes. She's unconscious, too, but that's the way she loves. She couldn't help loving his everything and never asking for anything from him. She supports his prank business and treats his friends very well. If Fred is not around, she will lose focus."

—Just like herself. The difference was that she did it when she got along with friends: Regard his likes and dislikes as hers, as well as career.

However, because Harry's career was to defeat the Dark Lord, to fight for justice, instead of mischief, which made her awake very late. And now, even if she realized, she still intended to keep it after consideration.

Harry couldn't help retorting: "But she often has a fight with Fred, and always breaks up with him."

Hermione shrugged, "that's instinct. Possessive and jealousy in love are the girl's instincts. Because their love itself is morbid, Della pays too much and gets too little, her instinct tells her such love is unhealthy. That's why she always wants to break up with him. But instinct is defeated by her love, so she can only suppress her instinct and stay with him in the end."

"It's too serious." Harry said timidly.

Hermione shook her head. "No. Fred loves Della, that's no doubt. But before today, or before she rejected his proposal, his imagine of her was no different from that of any girl. It is the same that he fell in love with a girl, as he fell in love with Della." She laughed with anger. "And now he realized Della wasn't any girl, she is Della! So he came to me to get to know his girlfriend whom he has been dating for two years and was planning to propose to!"

Harry gasped. Because he thought she was right!

He didn't think Fred was so bad, so he defended for him: "He loves her."

Hermione nodded, "yes. But it's because the hormone, he never really knew her. Many people start a relationship like this. Only when their passion fades, would they find that they don't know their lover at all. Like Mr. Bennet in Pride and Prejudice, he found out he didn't love Mrs. Bennet at all after he had five daughters."

Harry said resignedly, "well, at least Fred and Della won't be Bennets."
