Still don't own anything. Except Cyna. And if you see her name being misspelled, that is intentional. Enjoy!
Chapter 2
The woods were once again quiet, save the usual sounds of birds and the wind. Toxica and Jindrax slowly crept out from their hiding place and approached the unconscious Ranger, keeping an eye out for that woman in case she came back. Toxica knelt down next to Alyssa, waving her staff over her and frowning when Alyssa began to glow a weak pink color.
"She is alive, but her body is struggling." She said, waving her staff again to make the color disappear. Jindrax was standing over them, wringing his hands together and looking all around.
"No telling when the other Rangers will come looking for her, and if they see us with her in this condition, you'll know who they will blame." He said. Toxica nodded and stood up. She felt a little bad just leaving the girl like this, but it would be a lot worse if they just stayed there, or brought her to the Animarium themselves. No amount of talk or pleading would work with a room full of angry Rangers.
As the two began walking down the path, they heard a voice call out,
"Alyssa!" They stopped as the Blue Ranger came into view at the end of the path. They did an about face, the movement catching Max's eyes.
"Hey!" He called out, making his way towards them. Jindrax and Toxica were quickly going towards the other end of the path when Merrick jumped down in front of them. He crossed his arms and leveled his eyes in a glare at them. Behind them, Cole, Taylor, and Danny had followed Max. Taylor knelt by Alyssa with Danny by her heels; Cole saw Alyssa and was fixed to the spot. He turned his head slowly, his hazel eyes growing hard and cold when he saw the two Orgs. Taylor got his attention.
"She is still alive, but her pulse is thready." She said. Cole never took his eyes off of the two.
"Danny, Taylor, take her back home. Max, go with them." He said, voice steely. Jindrax and Toxica, for both their gruff and bluff, knew when not to pick a fight, it's how they survived all those years without being discovered. Jindrax made Toxica swear never to go anywhere near Massachusetts, ever again. Quickly, they put their hands up as Cole stalked towards them.
"We found her like that! Honest to Org!" Jindrax said.
'Yeah, and you can tell if we are lying." Toxica said, pointing to Cole. He had stopped in front of them, head cocked, looking at them. He then looked to Merrick.
"They are telling the truth." He said. Jindrax let out a chuckle.
"See? That lie detector of yours is great. We don't know what happened." He said. Cole's head whipped up.
"You just lied." He said. Toxica was quick to speak up.
"We saw the White Ranger talking with a woman. She was young, but felt old. Older than Org. They talked about the Elephant Crystal and a deal. Then, she pinned her to a tree and took something from the White Ranger's chest. She said it was her emotional heart. That's all we know." She said.
"Did this woman have a name?" Merrick asked.
"Sinna something. She was pale, dressed in all black, and black hair." Jindrax said. Cole and Merrick looked at each other, before Merrick stepped to the side and pointed down the path.
"Go. Tell your Master none of what happened here. If you do, I'll make you wish I destroyed you right here and now." He said, the hint of a snarl under his words. The two carefully stepped around him, and took off. Cole looked at Merrick.
"What is older than Org?" He asked.
"Something older than Orgs, would have to predate even the Animarium." Princess Shayla said after the Rangers had finished explaining to her what happened. They had set Alyssa up on the stone bed Princess Shayla had once used. Alyssa was twitching and shaking, taking fast, shallow breaths. Everyone sat around, trying to wrap their minds around what had happened. The Elephant Crystal was sitting on the table, found in Aylssa's hand.
"What are we talking about then?" Taylor asked.
"You would probably call them Angels, Demons, and Nephilim." Princess Shayla said. The was another moment of silence before Taylor stood up straight, her military training kicking in. Cole had been silent since they got back, so it was up to her to speak up.
"Okay, we need a plan. We need to take Alyssa to a hospital, first and foremost." She said.
"And tell them what? A couple Orgs saw an old young woman take her emotional heart?" Max stated bluntly. Taylor gaped. She didn't think about what to tell the doctors.
"We need to do something. I don't know how long her heart can last." She said.
"We can put her under the spell I was put under. It would regulate her heart, breathing. She wouldn't need to eat or drink, or do anything." Princess Shayla said.
"Would that work? She isn't a civilian of Animaria." Merrick asked. Princess Shayla chewed her bottom lip in thought.
"It wouldn't last for a long time. At most, a month." She said. Cole looked at Alyssa.
"What other choice do we have?" He said, voice coming out in a monotone. Princess Shayla gave his shoulder a squeeze before going to Alyssa. As she worked, Taylor began to talk out her thoughts.
"Alright. A month. We need a cover story to tell her school, and her parents, if the need arise. I can go to her school and say she volunteered for a survival class, sponsored by the Air Force. I can drop a few names from my own SEARs training. For extra credit."
"What about her parents?" Danny asked.
"Same thing. If we absolutely have to, we tell them the truth. Nut, I don't think it will come to that." Taylor said. Cole was still watching Princess Shayla, who finished setting the spell. Alyssa has calmed down, now breathing steadily.
"A month. A month to find out all we can about this Sinna person. And she is some sort of Angel, Demon, or something else." Merrick said.
"We could go to the library and check out books on the occult at the library." Max suggested.
"And maybe I can ask some of the local churches around here. See if they can tell us about this stuff." Danny said. Cole nodded.
"Lets go. We don't have much time."
Somewhere else
Cyna sat in her high back, hooded chair, gazing into the flames of her fireplace. She was staring into the flames, while rolling the Heart Crystal over her knuckles, deep in thought. She got up after a moment, placing the Crystal on a shelf, between a puzzle cube that had ever changing sides, and a painting of swirls of color. She smirked at it before walking to another bookshelf, and began looking at the titles, wondering where to start.
