Chapter 27: Dance Magic
Hey everyone I'm back with a new chapter. Sorry about the wait, but this was one of my favorite episodes so I wanted to nail this and figure out my plan for future chapters. I hope you like it. Please Review and Enjoy.
We find ourselves in the parking lot of CHS as the Rainbooms were doing a car wash to help raise money.
"To the right! To the right! To the left! To the left! Now up! Now up! Bring it down! Spin it around! Wash that car like you mean it! Come on!" Pinkie chants as Sunset, Rainbow and Sonata ran around the truck wiping soap all over.
Moving back Fluttershy sprays it with a hose before Luke and Rarity move in to dry and finally Pinkie. Burpy and all the other slugs move in a do some last scrubbing and polishing making the vehicle sparkle.
Smiling Big Mac hands them the money.
"Thanks Big Mac." Rainbow said as he drove off. "Sweet! More cash to add to the stash!"
"Woo-hoo!" Pinkie cheers.
"How about a little break? All of this sunshine and suds are doing a number on my hair." Rarity suggests.
"Yeah I think they need a break too." Luke said as Burpy and the other slugs were laying down tired.
"Yeah." They all agree before walking to the grass to get a drink.
"Hey, anybody seen Twilight?" Sonata asks when Twilight and Spike walk over.
"I'm here. I was just going over the numbers again." Twilight said holding the money box.
"Have we raised enough to make all the repairs to Camp Everfree?" Sunset asks.
"We've only raised half. I counted the money four times just to be sure." Twilight said causing them all to groan.
"It's all right. We can just wash more cars. There's gotta be some we missed." Applejack said as they looked out to see the parking lot was empty.
"Nope we got them all." Luke sighs.
"Uh I think we need a new plan." Sunset cringed.
"But we're running out of time! The camp fundraising deadline is next week. And Pinkie Pie and Sonata's already hosted a bake sale, Twilight and Fluttershy had that doggie day care, and Sunset Shimmer and I planned this car wash." Rainbow said.
"And sadly, all the Slugterra Gold in my family vaults won't work." Luke points out as Burpy shook his head agreeing with him.
"Not to worry, darlings. It's my turn to devise a plan, and I already have something amazing in mind. It will be the most profitable of all of our fundraising events! The piece de resistance." Rarity said.
"Ooh fancy." Sonata said.
"Now we're talking! What's your idea?" Applejack smiles.
"Meet me in the music room later this afternoon, and I will explain everything." Rarity said as all but Luke walked away excited.
"You don't have an idea, do you?" Luke asks and instantly a panicked look appeared on her face.
"How did you know?" Rarity asks.
"My Uncle Pronto always said things like this when he had no idea what to do." Luke said.
"Oh Luke please help me." Rarity begs.
"Don't worry Rarity I will. I'm sure we can think of something." Luke said.
"Aww. Thank you so much darling." Rarity said pecking him on the cheek.
Smiling Luke holds his cheek while Burpy and Dazzle chuckle at this.
Hours later, Luke and Rarity were walking around the mall trying to talk and think of ideas.
"Oh, rats. Three hours and still no ideas for a lucrative last-minute fundraiser. Usually, window-shopping inspires me." Rarity said.
"It'll come. Worst case scenario we dig out our Geoshards and just mine the rocks off them." Luke said causing Dazzle to gulp. "Relax I was just kidding."
"Are you a musician?" A trailer asks getting their attention.
Looking up they saw an announcement on the TV nearby.
"Do you and friends love to dance?" It asks.
"Oh yeah." Luke nods.
"Are you unique, cool, stylish?" It asks.
"Yes, yes, yes and obviously." Rarity nods.
"Do you want to win a cash prize?" It asks getting their attention.
"Yes." Both said eager.
"Then enter the Canterlot Mall Chance to Prance Competition! All you need is a music video of your own original song and dance. Then you could be prancing your way to first prize! Sign up now at the booth near the Aunt Orange smoothie kiosk." It said.
"I wish we knew about this sooner." Luke said as Burpy and Dazzle chirp in agreement.
Rarity was about to run ahead when she noticed a stunning sparkly red dress causing her to smile widely. "Oh we're certain to win!" She squeals as they ran to the booth to fill out a card.
"Shane is that you?" A familiar voice said.
Turning around Luke and Rarity saw Ryan Por with Sour Sweet, Sunny Flare, Lemon Zest and Sugarcoat.
"Rarity! What a nice surprise. Not." Sour Sweet said muttering that last part.
"Sour Sweet! Sunny Flare! Why it's been ages." Rarity gasps.
"It's only been a few months since the Friendship Games." Sugarcoat said.
"See your arm has healed up nicely." Ryan said as Luke moves back while Burpy growls at him.
"I see you don't have your blasters on you." Luke notices.
"Yeah Mom and Dad said no more blasters unless it's an emergency. Can't take them anywhere without permission." Ryan said.
"If you ask me you deserve that." Rarity glares.
"Hey don't talk to our boyfriend like that." Sour Sweet said surprising them.
"Boyfriend?" Luke and Rarity said as Ryan smirks.
"Oh yeah all 4 and Indigo Zap." Ryan smirks.
"Didn't see that coming." Luke admits.
"So uh how are things at Crystal Prep?" Rarity asks changing the subject.
"Oh, things at CPA have never been better since Principal Cadance took over." Sunny Flare smiles.
"Yeah. She's going to let us have the spring dance on a yacht, if we raise the money." Sour Sweet said.
"Well good luck with that, we're in a bit of a money-raising situation ourselves." Luke said.
"Are you guys signing up for the Chance to Prance competition?" Lemon Zest asks.
"We are. Are you guys?" Rarity asks.
"We definitely aren't here because we like standing in lines." Sugarcoat said.
"I assume you already have a video concept figured out. The competition's going to be pretty fierce." Sour Sweet said.
"Oh we can handle it." Luke said.
"And for the record I already have it figured out. It just came to me." Rarity said.
"You don't say." Ryan smirks. "So Shane I hope for your sake they won't have you do any dancing or singing."
"For your information, I'm a great singer." Luke said.
"And we can easily cover the dancing. Flamenco, hip hop, street ballet. We can do it all in our video with amazing costumes designed by yours truly." Rarity said.
Seeing what Ryan was doing the girls smirked.
"That sounds like a very good concept." Sugarcoat said.
"Yeah if you're okay with going over the top." Soursweet said.
"Oh really? What's your plan?" Luke glares.
"We don't have one." Sugarcoat said as Ryan covers her mouth.
"What she means is it's a surprise." Ryan said.
"Well we gotta go." Luke said as he and Rarity went to tell the others and the CPA students had other ideas.
At the music room, Rarity told everyone the plan.
"See? It's a wonderful plan. We'll write some lyrics for our new song, and we'll choreograph some dance moves. Then our video will win a cash prize, and voila." Rarity explains.
"You guys make it sound easy as pie." Applejack said.
"That's because it is. Even Ryan and the Crystal Prep girls agree." Rarity said getting their attention.
"Ryan Por? You mean that jerk that broke your arm in that sneaky slug duel?" Sonata asks.
"The very same. Turns out he's dating the other 5 teammates of his." Luke said.
"Hmph big deal you're a million times better than him and you're dating 8." Sunset smirks rubbing that victory in.
"Still I can't believe they're in this contest too." Twilight said.
"Why's that? It's not a problem is it?" Luke asks.
"Oh, no, it's not. Just haven't heard much about my old school since I left, I guess." Twilight admits.
"Well, if you ask me, Crystal Prep has got nothin' on CHS! I love it here!" Spike smiles when Fluttershy pets him. "See what I mean."
"Okay, before we get started with the choreographing of our dance moves and there's just one tiny, teeny-weensey, little thing I forgot to mention." Rarity said mumbling the last part.
"What?" Sonata asks.
"To pay for all the stuff we'd need we'd have to use our fundraising money." Luke said speaking for her.
"Hmm. How much is the grand prize worth?" Sunset asks.
"More than double than what we need to fix Camp Everfree." Rarity smiles.
"Hah! Then of course you can use the money for costumes!" Rainbow smiles.
"Sounds like a blast." Sonata smiles.
"Oh, what the hay? Why not?" Applejack said picking up the money tin.
"Sweet!" Rainbow Dash cheers.
"Whee-ee!" Pinkie cheers.
"This is way better than washing cars." Luke smiles.
"According to my calculations, if we lend Rarity the funds we've already raised, we stand to gain four times as much money as we have now." Twilight said causing them to cheer. "But if we lose the video contest, we'll be completely back to square one and zero dollars. Anyone else think this is an awfully risky endeavor?"
As Luke sees the incredibly nervous looks on everyone's faces he nudges Twilight telling her to look.
"Uh I mean…me neither." Twilight said nervously.
"Alright, Rainbooms. Who's ready to shoot our winning dance music video?" Rarity asks as they all cheer eager.
Soon they were all in the auditorium setting up the stage for their big video.
"Let's take it from the top one more time. Rainbow Dash, don't forget your cue. It's when Fluttershy does her triple pirouette, okay?" Rarity instructs before looking to Photo Finish who was running the camera and Vinyl Scratch was at the DJ station.
"And Action!" Rarity said as Sunset came out in a red and yellow Flamenco outfit and tried to dance when Luke came out dressed in an orange sleeveless shirt with a blue jacket on, his wrist blasters on his arms and black pants, Fluttershy came out in street clothes and a tutu trying to do a triple pirouette but ends up hitting Sunset when Rainbow Dash slides out in a hip-hop outfit.
"And Cut!" Rarity said seeing they were all messing up causing the music to stop.
"Hey! What happened to the music?" Rainbow asks.
"Fluttershy, it's supposed to be a triple pirouette." Rarity said walking up to her.
"I know. It's just that...um I-I don't think I can do one of those." Fluttershy said.
"Of course you can darling. I believe in you." Rarity assures.
"How about you try Jazz Paws instead?" Spike suggests as he and the Slugs did Jazz paws with him.
"Thanks guys but it might take more than that." Luke chuckles.
"All these moves are pretty hard." Sunset agrees.
"Oh, I know. But if we want to win, we have to bring our A-game." Rarity said.
"Crystal Prep certainly will. They're excellent dancers, and you know how they love to compete." Twilight said walking out in a gold and pink dress with stars on it.
"How about we focus less on them and more on us?" Sonata said walking out in a purple leather jacket and street clothes.
"Yeah none of it will matter if we don't nail our dancing." Applejack agrees wearing a sparkly cowgirl outfit.
"Great idea, Applejack!" Looking over they saw Pinkie Pie in a hip-hop outfit dancing to her own imitation drum noises. "It's really fun! I haven't stopped this whole time!"
"Maybe you should." Luke suggests.
"Let's take it from Rainbow's entrance." Rarity said going to sit down. "And Action!"
As the music started up Sunset did her moves but ends up slipping causing her heel to rip Rainbow's jacket causing Rarity to gasp.
"Oh no this is a disaster!" Rarity said running up.
"Oops sorry Rarity." Sunset apologizes.
"Oh. Well, I can fix it, but I'll have to run to the fabric store before it closes. Keep practicing while I'm gone!" Rarity said running out to get more fabric.
"Do you guys think we can pull this off?" Rainbow asks.
"I don't know but I'm not gonna lie you girls look drop-dead gorgeous right now." Luke said causing them all to smile and giggle at the compliment.
"Well at least you're making this whole experience worth it." Sunset smiles.
At the mall, Rarity was coming out of the fabric store with new fabric in a bag.
"Thank goodness I set up a budget for backup fabric." Rarity said when Dazzle heard a noise and chirped getting her attention. "What's wrong Dazzle?"
Looking ahead Rarity gasps seeing Ryan and the Crystal Prep girls doing their own dance video but with outfits similar to her idea.
"Is that a disco-inspired look? And a street ballet tutu?! I don't believe it. They stole my brilliant idea!" Rarity gasps in horror.
At Rarity's house, Rarity was in her room sewing up Rainbow's jacket when she heard a knock at the door.
"We're here." Pinkie said.
"We got your text. You said it was an emergency?" Luke asks.
"Is everything alright?" Sonata asks.
"Well since you asked…" Rarity said walking to a chair. "The answer is NO!" She sobs.
"Oh no what happened?" Fluttershy asks as they sat down.
"Ryan Por... and the... Crystal... Prep girls stole our video concept! I saw them filming at the mall. They copied my design ideas and everything! So of course, they looked absolutely fabulous. But the worst part is that they're all incredible dancers!" Rarity sniffles.
"Wow he really does take after his mother." Luke said annoyed by this.
"Major bummer in the summer. Tissue for your issue?" Pinkie asks handing her one and she blew her nose.
"Everyone is counting on me, on the video to win us the prize money for the camp. Oh, how could I have been such a fool? Of course, those Crystal Preppers stole my concept. I practically served it to them on a platter." Rarity sighs annoyed.
"Don't be too hard on yourself. It's gonna take more than one Friendship Games for those Crystal Prep students to learn that winning isn't everything." Twilight said.
"It takes a lot to be willing to fix your mistakes." Sonata said.
"Trust me I know." Sunset said.
"Eh maybe it's for the best." Applejack said.
"What do you mean?" Rarity asks.
"Uh, your concept and costumes are really awesome, but, our dancing." Applejack starts.
"Not so much." Sunset said causing Luke to chuckle.
"We could barely do a few moves without falling all over each other." Luke said causing them all to laugh.
Nonsense! You all looked great!" Rarity said standing up. "Okay, maybe not great, but, but... but it was getting there. And the point is we don't have to let them win! That is our video concept! And I am going straight to Crystal Prep to let them know that they have messed with the wrong team! Who's with me?" Rarity asks before clearing her throat. "No seriously who's with me I have no idea how to get to Crystal Prep."
"'ll go. Maybe I can try to reason with them. We were classmates once." Twilight said.
"Maybe I should go to. Never know what you might run into." Luke said as Burpy nods in agreement.
"That's the spirit! Come on!" Rarity said grabbing them both.
At Crystal Prep, Rarity comes out wearing a hood over her head and shades over her eyes while Luke and Twilight were dressed normally as they snuck in.
"Where's the dance studio?" Rarity whispers.
"There's a dance studio?" Twilight asks surprised.
"Didn't you go to this school?" Rarity asks.
"I can tell you where the library is." Twilight said.
"You weren't very social at this school, were you?" Luke asks.
"Not even a little." Twilight said when they heard music from down the hall.
"Bingo." Rarity smiles.
Walking to the door they saw the five of them doing a series of dance moves that blew them away before posing in front of them.
"Looks like we have an audience." Ryan said as an Arachnet hops in and lands on his shoulder causing Burpy to growl at him.
"So what did you think of our routine? Scared yet?" Sour Sweet asks.
"Don't change the subject, Sour Sweet!" Rarity points.
"But you didn't bring up a subject." Sugarcoat said.
"You either!" Rarity said as the Crystal Prep students look at each other weirdly.
"Ohhh kay." Sour Sweet said.
"You know why we're here! You stole my I mean our music video idea! Now change your concept, or else." Rarity said.
"Sorry not sorry but we can't." Ryan said causing the girls to laugh.
"And why is that?" Luke asks.
"Because we care about winning. Duh." Sunny Flare said.
"And we will, because we're just about to submit our video." Sour Sweet said as they all laughed.
"Okay now I'm seeing how you're dating all of them." Luke deadpans.
"You're what?" Rarity gasps before fixing herself. "It doesn't matter! Because we are still doing our video the way we planned!"
"Go ahead but there's one small problem if you do." Ryan points out.
"By the time you submit yours, it'll just look like you copied us." Sunny Flare said.
"Except worse." Sugarcoat said.
"Wow Ryan I really thought you learned something from the Friendship Games, but I guess deep down you're just a no-good thief." Luke glares.
"Yep pretty much." Ryan smirks.
In the music room at CHS, Rarity told them everything.
"Oh, this is all my fault! All the money we raised is gone, and now we have no music video! I should never have convinced you all that we could pull this off in so little time." Rarity apologizes.
"Hey don't blame yourself we've done good with smaller amounts of time." Sonata said.
"Yeah we're great at doing stuff super-fast. I mean, look at Pinkie Pie. She just built that castle made entirely out of chocolate bars while we were talking." Rainbow said as they looked over to see Pinkie had indeed built an amazing castle out of chocolate before ripping a piece off to eat.
"Want some?" Pinkie asks.
"What I want is a new video concept." Rarity said.
"Well then let's make one." Luke shrugs.
"Really?" Rarity asks.
"Come on after everything we've been through, I'm pretty sure we can think of something." Luke said.
"Yeah let's just put our heads together and think." Sunset agrees.
"Okay I suppose it's worth a try." Rarity said when Pinkie grabbed them and literally put their heads together.
"I think it's working." Pinkie smiles.
"Yeah! I-I got something! Okay, so we're in home-ec class baking some apple fritters! And then, a fresh batch comes outta the oven. And everybody's having a great time!" Applejack said.
"Wait. So basically, we are eating pastries at school in our music video?" Rarity asks.
"Uh I guess I'm just hungry." Applejack blushes.
"Oh, oh! I do! So we're in the middle of the jungle. And we're being chased by henchmen who are shooting poison arrows at us! And then suddenly, out of nowhere, the shadow of a giant beast appears!" Rainbow said.
"Wait a minute isn't a scene from the latest Daring Doo book?" Twilight asks.
"Oh yeah. That's why is seemed so cool. Nevermind." Rainbow said.
"Hey what if we did a video based on Slugterra? It would totally blow people's mind." Sunset said.
"Shane Rules, Sunset: No secrets of Slugterra on the surface." Luke reminds.
"Oh right, sorry." Sunset cringed.
"Ooh wait I think I got something." Pinkie said.
"Please do tell." Rarity said.
"We'll start out on the moon! And we'll be wearing really sparkly costumes. No, wait! We'll be in spacesuits! We're surrounded by gorgonzola cheese! But then, a space doggie with his slug army walks over and start to eat the cheese!" Pinkie said.
"Ooh I like this one." Spike said as Burpy smiles in agreement causing them all to laugh.
"Stop! This will never work!" Rarity snaps.
"Aww why not?" Pinkie asks.
"Because it's a dance music video." Luke said.
"And not one of your ideas had dancing at all!" Rarity points out.
"But they were pretty fun. I liked yours the best Rainbow Dash." Sonata said.
"Thanks Sonata." Rainbow smiles causing Rarity to growl.
"Are you okay?" Fluttershy asks.
"Okay? No, I am not okay! The contest deadline is tomorrow, and we have just been wasting time!" Rarity snaps before leaving causing everyone to feel bad.
At a diner, Rarity was sobbing as she dug into an ice cream sundae feeling horrible.
"It's no use Sour Sweet. Why are we even trying?" Sunny Flare said getting her attention.
"Huh?" Rarity lifts her head up and sees Ryan and the Crystal Prep girls in a booth nearby.
"Because the deadline hasn't passed. We can still come up with an original song to replace the Sapphire Shores one we've been practicing our choreography with." Sour Sweet said.
"That's highly unlikely." Sugarcoat said.
"Why did we tell Rarity that we already submitted our video?" Lemon Zest groans.
"Because unlike us those guys are creative, we can't come up with a decent idea to save our lives." Ryan groans. "Ugh I am really am a no-good thief."
"Come on sweetie stop talking like that." Sour Sweet said patting him on the shoulder.
"Yeah we don't think you're no good." Sunny Flare smiles.
"Just a little rough around the edges, like us." Sugarcoat smiles.
"Aww." Rarity smiles softly.
"I'm sorry girls, but what are we gonna do? If blow this what will our classmates say?" Ryan asks.
"They'll say it's our fault the spring dance had to be held in the boring old auditorium instead of on a yacht like we promised." Lemon Zest said.
"Exactly." Ryan said.
"They just don't want to disappoint their classmates." Rarity realized.
"But the Rainbooms have a band. They'll surely have a killer original song, and we don't." Sugarcoat said.
"Yet." Sour Sweet said.
"Face it, Sour. We're doomed." Sunny Flare said.
"Excuse me." Rarity clears her throat walking over surprising.
"R-Rarity! Uh, how long have you been over there?" Sour Sweet panics.
"Wait Shane isn't here is he?" Ryan asks looking around.
"No he isn't. And long enough to know you don't have an original song." Rarity said.
"Like I said doomed." Sugarcoat repeats.
"Maybe you're not. Look, I know our teams haven't been getting along too well lately. But I think I have a solution where everybody wins." Rarity offers.
Pausing the Shadowbolts look at each other.
"We're listening." Ryan said.
Back at CHS, Rarity lead the Rainbooms into the auditorium.
"So what's the big plan you were excited about?" Applejack asks when Rarity opens the door and they see an amazing crystal stage with a big rainbow above it.
"Whoa." Everyone even the Slugs said in awe.
"Wait a minute, this is your original idea." Luke noticed.
"Aren't the Crystal Prep students using this video idea now?" Sunset asks.
"They are yes, but so are we. Come on out everyone." Rarity said as the five of them walk out causing the Rainbooms to get uncomfortable looks on their faces. "I know it's hard to believe, but the Crystal Preppers here helped me to realize that competing against one another was getting us nowhere."
"And Rarity helped show us that winning was the only thing driving us. We didn't even care if we had to steal to accomplish it." Lemon Zest said.
"But that's not who we are. Anymore." Sour Sweet said.
"We want to help, maybe even someday even be friends." Ryan said.
"The Crystal Prep Academy students have offered to help with dance moves if we'll help them with an original song." Rarity said.
"Combining our talents is the most logical thing to do." Sugarcoat said.
"We'll make one epic music video together." Sunny Flare agrees.
"What do you all say?" Rarity asks.
Pausing everyone considered it while Pinkie Pie had a big smile.
"Best! Music! Video! Idea ever!" Pinkie cheers.
Soon they were all in costumes getting ready for everything.
"So wait you're dating all of them?" Ryan asks as he and Luke looked down at the girls from the stage.
"Oh yeah." Luke nods.
"Dang you Shanes you really do get all the luck." Ryan said impressed.
"We can start by teaching you the words to our song." Fluttershy said passing out papers.
"But this is just about the Rainbooms. There's nothing about us in the lyrics." Sunny Flare points out.
"Yet. Wanna help me make some changes?" Fluttershy offers.
"Anybody else care to work on some music?" Rarity asks.
"We'll get to it after I teach you some dance moves." Sour Sweet said moving in.
"Music first." Rarity said.
"Dance first." Sour Sweet said.
"Music first!" Rarity said.
"Dance first!" Sour Sweet said glaring at her.
"Music first!" Rarity said glaring at her.
"Dance first!" Sour Sweet snaps.
Moving in Luke and Ryan pull their girlfriends away.
"Girls calm down!" Luke said.
"It doesn't matter what we do first!" Ryan said.
"Oh…right." They both realized before laughing embarrassed.
Looking to each other both boys cringed.
"I love them all them but man these girls can difficult." Ryan said.
"I know that feeling." Luke agrees.
"Lights!" Rarity said.
"Camera!" Sour Sweet said.
"And Action!" Luke said firing a Phosporo slug setting off multiple lights allowing him and all the Rainbooms to pony up.

Zooming out we see the music video was being played at the mall meaning they all won.
"Yee-hoo! We've got enough to make Camp Everfree look just like new!" Applejack cheers.
"And we're having the spring dance on a yacht!" Lemon Zest cheers as they high five.
"Who's up for a celebratory Aunt Orange smoothie?!" Pinkie suggests as they all cheer.
"Ooh I have just had the most brilliant idea! Maybe Crystal Prep could use an award-winning band to play at their spring dance? It'll be the perfect way to show off your new dance moves." Rarity suggests.
"That would be amazing. Of course, then we'd have a new dilemma to deal with." Sour Sweet said.
"Oh no what?" Rarity asks.
"Figuring out what we're all gonna wear." Sour Sweet smiles.
"Oh I might have a few ideas I'm willing to share." Rarity smiles.
"Me too." Sour Sweet said as all the girls walked away.
"Hey Luke." Ryan said getting his attention.
"Yeah?" Luke asks looking to him.
"Look uh…I'm not very good at this so. I got something for you, or rather something that belongs to you." Ryan said confusing him.
"What are you talking about?" Luke asks.
"I brought it up with my mom and she agreed so…here." Holding out his hand Luke and Burpy gasp seeing Ryan hold the Shadow Walker out for him.
"The Shadow Walker." Luke said in awe.
"Yeah Mom doesn't use it anymore. I figured this could be my way of saying I'm sorry and maybe we could start over." Ryan said.
"I'd like that." Luke said as he took the Shadow Walker and they went to join the girls.
