"And now zee bride and groom will share zeir first dance as husbeend and wife." Said Fleur's best friend and maid of honour into the dj's microphone. Bill and Fleur rose from their seats at the Head Table and walked out onto the dance floor as a slow song started to play. Everyone turned to watch them dance.
"They do look sweet together, don't they?" Ginny mused to Ron.
"Mmmhmmm." He said, not really paying her any attention, but staring at something on the other side of the room."
"I guess Fleur isn't so bad after all. They make a good couple." Ginny continued.
"Yeah." Said Ron, still not focusing on what Ginny was saying.
The maid of honour approached the microphone once more, "And now, zee udder couples may join in zee dance." She said.
Ginny tilted her head in the direction Ron was staring to see what he was looking at. On the other side of the dance floor was Hermione sitting at a table sipping her Gillywater, while chatting animatedly to Gabrielle. They were interrupted by one of the Weasleys' cousins asking Gabrielle to dance. Hermione sat back in her chair and remained at the table all alone, as everyone else was up dancing.
Ginny turned back to Ron who was staring vaguely in that direction with a dreamy look on his face. "Why don't you just go over there and ask her to dance?" suggested Ginny, smirking.
"Huh? Who?" asked Ron, finally snapping out of his reverie.
"Hermione, you git." She said, "You've only been staring at her for the past half hour."
Ron opened his mouth to protest but Ginny stopped him. "Don't try to deny it; it's obvious you fancy her." Ron opened his mouth again, "She will accept don't worry." She assured him. Ron opened his mouth again, but Ginny had anticipated his response. "And don't say you can't dance! It's hardly difficult. Just put your arms around her waist and sway to the music."
Ron had run out of excuses, "B-b-But…" he spluttered.
"Go, now." Said Ginny commandingly.
Ron walked almost mechanically across the room. "Hermione," he managed to choke out. She looked up at him expectantly. Ron stuttered a bit, "W-would you like to dance?" he asked, "With me." He clarified. Hermione giggled and accepted.
They walked onto the dance floor. Ron wrapped his arms around her waist (just like Ginny had told him) and Hermione, who was at least a head shorter than Ron, reached up and put her arms around his neck and rested her arms on his shoulders.
Across the room Ginny was silently congratulating herself. They looked so cute together, and so happy, slightly awkward, but happy nonetheless.
