Chapter 55
Breccia waited until Sanchez and Kelly left before trying to speak to Riker further. (She wasn't sure why he asked her to stay to begin with.)
"Do you want me to continue with the blueprints we have?"
Riker rubbed the bridge of his nose with his forefinger and thumb, nursing an oncoming headache. "I trust you'll make the right decision." He made a feeble attempt to gather his paperwork, giving up halfway.
Breccia knew, after the conversation they had in Travessia, the news they received was shocking to say the least. She'd always been blessed with a good relationship when it came to she and her father. So, while it was hard to sympathize with Riker, she felt nothing but empathy for him.
Ethan...
She thought of Ethan. He'd spoke of Riker's father. They were friends as children. Ethan had no love for thier Organization and rightfully so, but she could only imagine his horror if he were to find out where his friend ended up.
"I didn't expect him to take it this far." Riker said following an elongated snap of silence.
"What reason does he have?" Breccia took the initiative to gather a couple papers that fell to the floor during Riker's outburst.
Letting out a sigh of contempt, her Boss leaned back in his chair.
"My grandfather... he built everything this Organization stands for." Not wanting to give his father the pleasure of a name, he grimaced. "When He was a child, Grandfather went into hiding after we were shut down due to an outsider. Everything fell apart and he couldn't handle it, so he left to get stronger.
In the process, he abandoned my father, left him alone and without a person to turn to." He glanced over to the coffee pot, contemplating whether to add life to his parched throat. "I know what he did was wrong. I've never defended him... but the Boss has done more for me than my "father" ever has and I'll be damned if I'm going to let him destroy everything the way he did my mother." He stood. "Arlia, go with her," He motioned to his Head Lab Technician. "See if you can be of any help. I'm going to stay in contact with Kelly and Sanchez. If anything new arises, let me know."
