Genevieve Altruzara,16, Victor of the 82nd hunger games
I can hear a faint heartbeat monitor in the far distance, but even now, I'm still shrouded in the shadows of oblivion. The sound of a heartbeat monitor seems to be getting louder and there's a tiny speck of light in this oblivion that's gradually getting larger and larger and it widens to the point where I'm no longer in oblivion.
"She's regaining consciousness…" I hear a faint voice and my eyes flutter open to see a face covered in a face mask and glasses looking down over me, where am i?
"Hi Genevieve, how are you feeling?" the nurse I assume she is, asks me, but I can only let out a low groan as I look around the room and I can see one of my mentors Brock sitting across the room with a relieved look on his face and I look at my body to see all these random tubes attached to me, just how long was I out…everything just seemed blank...
"I'm…I'm ok…" I weakly groan.
"OK great, you are aware of where you are, right?" the nurse asks and that's when I start getting flashbacks of my fight with Emmerane and even just thinking about it causes my heart to race in fear as I perfectly memorize her brutality and her face both filled with desperation and viciousness as she used the last of her strength trying to finish me off, I…I don't know how I survived.
"Y-yeah…" I mumble and look around the room more where I see Tatianna enter and she also has a relieved look on her face.
"You're our newest victor, congratulations! your vitals are looking really good right now, we'll give you some fluids and bring you something to eat afterwards, ok?" the nurse smiles at me.
I look down at my leg though, remembering that it broke and the bone was literally sticking out of my leg after I fell off the stair railing with Emmerane, but to my surprise my leg looks good as new, like nothing ever happened to it.
"How long has it been…since I was out?" I suddenly ask the nurse.
"Its been about three weeks, you had some pretty serious injuries, so you had to be sedated for a while." The nurse explains.
Three weeks and my bone is already fully healed? I can't be surprised by anything the capitol is capable of but anything…anything could've happened in those three weeks. My brother Manvel, my mother, they can be in danger, or worse!
"I need to get out of here, I need to go!" I suddenly sit up and start pulling all of these different tubes out of me.
"Hey Genevieve calm down!" Brock tries to convince me and both him and Tatianna rushes over to me.
"I need to get to my brother! He needs me!" I feel my eyes starting to water as I try to jump off of the bed but Brock, Tatiana and even the Nurse all restraint me.
"It's ok Genevieve, I understand how you're feeling, you will be home soon!" Brock tries to explain.
"I need to go!" I argue.
"Look at me Genevieve, you're alive, you're alive!" he explains to me and I look into his eyes as tears run down mines.
"You're alive Genevieve and that's the greatest gift anyone can ask for, I promise you that you will be home soon, that you will see your brother but please Genevieve, just hang in there for a little longer, alright?" he continues and I let out a slow nod as tears stream down my eyes, I think of what Brock just told me. I still remember every tribute's face that I was in the arena with and for some reason, it's only me that's standing at the end of it all. All of the other devastated friends and families are getting their loved ones sent back home in a box to them but it's me that gets to walk home, that gets to see my family again...
The faces begin flashing into my head, especially Acer, who's a large reason why I even managed to make it out of there, I was at my weakest and he was able to nurse me back to full strength, i…i just wish I can hug and thank him, I just wish he was still here…
I think of Christmas aswell, both of them died to protect me, so I can continue living…and I can't let that go to a waste, I am alive because of them, and I will continue to live because of them!
I think of my unpleasant encounters aswell, like Hyperion, Hunter and ofcourse Emmerane. Hunter, he was likely responsible for so many deaths including his own mentor, and he loved nothing more than to bully on women, I would kill that asshole a million more times if I could, and I have no sympathy for him at all. We were all still human in the end though, fighting for our loved ones so we can get back to them but that still wasn't enough for 23 of us...
I manage to calm myself down a little and the Nurse brings me a tray of food shortly afterwards which consists of a chicken soup with buttered bread and water. I take slow sips of the soup and Brock and Tatianna sit close to me, almost as if they're protecting me.
"I'm glad that you're ok Genevieve, and I'm so happy that you managed to make it back." Tatianna smiles faintly at me. They both seemed like good people, but I didn't really take much time to get to know more about them, I did appreciate the little advice they gave me though before I went into the arena however..
"It's honestly…it's still surreal…" I admit and it's true. The line up of tributes this year was pretty insane, just about everyone was physically capable in some way or form.
"You fought well Genevieve, especially against Emmerane, you used her aggression against her and you found the openings you needed to make to eek out the win." Tatianna commends me. It just felt like I wasn't even in control of myself for that entire fight, like someone or something was possessing me, I can't help but wonder if I'm actually dead and this is some sort of purgatory. I remember the horrifying scene of the stair railing piercing her clean through the torso. That would've instantly stopped most tributes in their tracks and killed them shortly afterwards but no, she used her sheer will power to pull herself out of it and crawl over to me where she nearly finished me off but she bled out before she can dish out the finishing blow. I would just prefer not to talk anymore about this, but I think of the interview that's coming up soon and I'm going to have to face the horror once again…
Hello guys, I am back and I'm not going ANYWHERE! it's been over two months since my last update so please excuse me if I'm a little rusty, I'll get back into gear soon enough though! This chapter was intentionally relatively short as I just wanted to give the initial thoughts on Genevieve embracing her new status but i still have two more chapters left for her. Next chapter will focus on her post games interview while the final chapter afterwards will be her epilouge and boy, is that going to be interesting! Now guys, after these long two months away, I have some very positive news to share with all of you. I'm still pretty busy in my personal life but my schedule has cleared up immensely and I was able to adjust well to my new life. with this being sad, I am happy to announce that the sequel and finale to this saga "Madness Ends" is officially back on board! I hope there's still enough of you left here to submit some tributes, but in the worst case scenario I'll fill in the empty slots with original characters of my own, even though i absolutely prefer not to. Anyways guys, Madness Ends is up and I'm accepting tributes as of right now! The tribute form and rules can be found on my profile so check it out if you're interested in submitting. Once again submissions will be first come first served. spots can be reserved but if i dont hear back from the reserver within a week, I'll free up the slot. See you guys soon though, till next time!
