"Kaiah I know it hurts but you need to push"
Snapping my eyes open I see an older woman at the foot of my bed just over my stomach.
A pain I have never had rockets through me.
"One more push You can do it."
Screaming I push as hard as I can and what feels like a weight is pushed out. I see the woman look to the side. A man I have never seen steps forward and cuts the umbilical cord. It is a baby gasping I welcome the blackness.
Waking up I see the same man sleeping in the chair beside my bed. Looking around I notice the baby bassinet and hear the baby crying. Standing up slowly and wincing in pain I notice someone had cleaned me up. Walking to the bassinet I pause and take a deep breath.
A baby swaddled up and eyes searching for someone quieted down as I grew near.
"He's beautiful, isn't he?"
I jump at the sudden voice. The man no longer sleeping stood at my side looking lovingly down at the baby.
"Yes he is"
Still in extreme confusion. His face grows serious, and he looks at me.
"Who are you? You are not my Kaiah"
Looking up at him with tears in my eyes.
"I don't know why I am here. One minute I am talking to Sarah about spirit warriors and other halves and now I am here giving birth to a baby."
His eyes widen as I continue to talk.
"Mother!"
He yells frightening me and the baby.
The woman from earlier walks in and he explains the situation. Her eyes gleam and she smiles.
"The ancestors have sent you here. For what purpose I know not of."
"I am Iara Black. I am a spirit warrior; well, I was back in my day. As is my son protecting the tribe as we always have."
I did not know women could be spirit warriors. They are never mentioned other than the story of the third wife."
They laugh and the man picks the baby up to comfort him.
"It is not as often but the ancestors only bless those, they seem fit. It is not for us to understand- "
"But to respect."
I mutter the familiar words Sarah had uttered. They smile and the man takes his baby into the bedroom.
"Why did your ancestors choose me? I didn't even know about this. It was all legends and bedtimes stories my dad's best friend would tell me when I stayed over. I don't even know if I am dead or alive, I just keep waking up in different places."
"You are one of us dear child. You just don't know it yet. I am here to tell you my story and thankfully for you it is a short one."
I was born Iara Bahaada. My childhood was perfectly normal. I married Jacob Black and it was like we were other halves. I did not know of spirit warriors at the time. Any way soon after I had our son the tribe was attacked, and my Jacob was killed. Filled with a rage I have never felt I transformed and was able to take down the cold one."
Enthralled in the story I lean forward.
"I knew the ancestors had gifted me a way to protect my tribe and I will be forever grateful. I have passed the knowledge down to my son who will pass it down to his little Jacob."
"As female warriors are uncommon we are gifted with a little extra. Longer lifespan and great fertility. Once we find our other half of course."
"How do you find them?"
"You will always find them when the time is right."
Looking off to the side she smiles.
"Your time here is done my dear. I wish you great things. Close your eyes."
Closing my eyes feels almost peaceful until I hear the screams. My eyes snap open in shock.
"You have to get up Sakari! Jacob is dead! They are all dead we have to run!" Yelled a girl around my age attempting to pull me to my feet.
Looking down I see my shirt slashed and covered in blood.
"Who are you? What is happening?"
She looks at me in panic and with surprising strength she pulls me up and drags me along with her. Glancing at my surroundings I see bodies littered on the ground and people running.
"What is happening!?" again I am ignored and pulled along.
Suddenly she is ripped from my hands by a beautiful woman covered in blood. She screams as her neck is snapped and the woman grins. I start to back away and tripped over a body.
As she drops the body smiling, she advances towards me.
"Cold one! Leave us be! Your mate is dead and soon you will be too"
She turned to the voices the same times I did. There stood a man, and I knew from looking at him he was a spirt warrior. The woman snarled and ran to attack him.
The fighting was intense, and I can tell the woman was slowly starting to overcome him.
A scream from behind forced my gaze away from the showdown. I saw a woman standing in the clearing. Holding a knife, she slits her wrist and calls out.
"You've taken my sons I will not allow you to take my husband."
The woman's eyes snapped to the woman, and she rushed forward and sunk her teeth in her neck. Snarling in anger the man rushed towards them ripping the woman's head off and collapsing beside the woman who sacrificed herself.
"The third wife"
Scrambling up from my position I rush to them.
"Sakari. What do I do?"
The man looks up at me in tears. Suddenly his expression shifts, and he growls.
"Who are you and what have you done with Sakari?"
Tears streaming down my eyes I drop to my knees.
"You're Taha Aki? Please I am so sorry I don't know why I am here. Why your ancestors keep showing me these things. I don't know what it means."
He takes a long look at his wife and then turns his gaze on me.
"Losing my other half feels like my soul is being ripped in two and I cannot breathe. I know not why they have chosen to show you this."
He looks behind me at the burning remains of his village and the bodies scattered. Tears falling freely as the remaining members of the tribe come out of hiding and start to mourn. He looks back at me unblinkingly.
"I have protected my tribe and will continue to until my dying breath. That was the promise I made to my ancestors as they gifted me with this ability. I have fulfilled my destiny and soon so shall you. The ancestors are showing you this for a reason."
With that he stood with his wife in his arms and disappeared into the forest.
Tears streaming down my face I watch him leave and am surrounded by darkness.
I open my eyes and I am in my old bedroom. Looking down at myself I am in my normal pjs. I hear noise coming from outside my room. Carefully I walk to the door soundlessly opening it. Looking down the hallway I see no one. I make my way towards the noise, and I see my mom making pancakes.
"Good morning sleepy head. I thought I would have to douse you with water to wake you up"
I run to her as she plates the last pancake and shuts off the stove. Wrapping my arms around her I can not help but cry. I feel the familiar rubs on my back as she kisses my head in comfort.
"I had the worst dream ever! I don't want to stay at dad's house anymore there will be nothing but trouble. I want to come with you."
I clutch her harder as I say this.
"Oh honey."
She pulls me back and for the first time I notice the tears streaming down her face.
"That was not a dream baby. I'm afraid to tell you this is not one either. I have some things to tell you and it is going to be hard to hear."
She walks me to the couch and sits down with me.
"The ancestors are allowing me to tell you this. And I wished and prayed that you would never have to go through this. It is one of the reasons I moved and swore everyone to secrecy."
"Mom you are not making any sense"
She sighs and takes my hand in hers.
"I was born in La Push. My name before I changed it was Jacira Uley."
"Uley? As in Sam Uley?"
I start to get up before I am pulled back down.
"Yes. I was- well I am Joshua Uley's twin sister. Sam is my nephew and your cousin."
"I am so confused right now"
"Growing up I always felt trapped, like I could not be who I wanted to be. I always loved Charlie but unfortunately, he never felt the same about me. He got married and had a baby, he was happy. Then everything started to fall apart, and I thought finally this is my chance. About a year after his divorce I approached him and I will spare you the details but I thought we could finally be happy."
Leaning in I wipe the tears that are forming in my eyes.
"I should have known that it wasn't meant to be. He was still in love with Renee and when he told me that and I was heartbroken. I swore to myself I would never see him again. But fate works in mysterious ways and suddenly I found out that I was pregnant. The shame that I felt caused me to leave the tribe. My brother already tarnished our name and then I turn around and do this. It was too much. Know that I never for a second regretted you. I changed my name and I told Charlie that I was pregnant and if he wanted to see you everyone would have to abide by my rules."
"You told me that dad was a one night stand you met while passing through!"
"I didn't object to Billy telling you about your heritage, but I just did not want you to know the whole truth."
"Then why now?"
She looks off to the side and sighs.
"The ancestors have spoken they need you to know this. Nicole this is your destiny. I was to ashamed and afraid to face mine but you my brilliant daughter can."
"Mom just come home and we can forget all of this and just move to California of somewhere far away."
"Honey I think you know why I am here telling you this. I cannot come home"
She places her hand on my cheek and I suddenly know why I haven't been able to contact her recently.
"I am afraid too mom. I just want to stay here with you"
"We will see each other one day. Hopefully not too soon"
She looks again in that direction off to the side and nods.
"The ancestors have shown you wisdom, strength, and courage. You need to go back and fight for your love. It won't be easy, but I believe in you darling."
She stands with me and places a kiss on my forehead. My eyes close as tears flow down my face. When I open my eyes, I am in a hospital room.
I groan immediately shutting them because of the fluorescent lighting. Slowly letting my eyes adjust to the light I look at my surroundings. I am in a hospital room. My eyebrows shoot up as I see my dad sleeping on the chair on the other side of the room.
Trying to sit up I wince in pain and look down. Four stitched gashes ran down to above my belly button. Tracing up one of the scratches I feel that it starts right below my neck.
"I see that you are awake that is great news!" I look up to see a woman who I can only assume is a doctor based on her lab coat and clipboard.
"You are very lucky you were brought in when you were. You lost a lot of blood, and it was pretty touch and go there for a while. The bear clawed your left upper abdomen managing to get your breast and a bit of your stomach. I will let you know that everything should heal up well if you take care of it in the healing process. I am sorry to say that it will eventually scar as it heels up. Do you have any questions for me?"
Tears now falling down my face as she explains I shake my head and she informs me that she will be back in soon to check on me.
A bear attack is how they are covering this up. It makes sense they can't exactly say a delusional teenaged boy with an obsession on an emotional stunted girl got very angry. Also said boy happens to turn into a wolf went psycho and did this… Can they?
I shut my eyes and take in all the information I have gathered. Sending a quick prayer to the ancestors I open my eyes and set them on my dad who is now awake.
"Dad, we need to talk."
