He looked at me in shock and relief. Hopping up and rushing to my side. Gently grabbing my hand with tears in his eyes.

"Niks you're up! You scared me! What were you doing in the woods? You knew that there were bears. I was worried, they brought you in and you were covered in blood. I don't know what I would've done if I lost you."

My eyes widened with every word he uttered. Seeing my dad concerned for me and crying for my safety let me know maybe I was wrong about him. Maybe he does care about me in his own way. Squeezing his hand back surprisingly took a little effort.

"I am so sorry dad! I was upset at Bella and Jacob, so I stormed off in anger. I knew it was wrong, but I was too angry in the moment to consider everything."

Noticing him wincing when I said Bella's name, I filed that away for later.

"Niks, you have been out for a week. I don't want to bombard you but there are some things we need to talk about."

Taking a deep breath, he stands up straight and scratches the back of his head.

Your mother was in a car accident. She just arrived home and was on her way here when she was sidelined by a truck killing them both on impact."

That's when I knew the dreams were real. My mom is dead and there isn't anything I could do to change that. Tears start forming and falling down my face.

He pulls a chair up to the bed and sits. Carefully grabbing my hand in his and wiping some tears away.

"Harry has had a heart attack and passed away a day after you were brought here."

"How did that happen?"

"We went to find the bear that attacked you and it was too much for him"

Tears were flowing down both of our faces.

The next couple of days were rough. I didn't want to move as much and risk ripping open the stitches. We had a funeral to plan and another to attend.

Dad has been extremely attentive. Turns out Bella flew out of the country to go find Assward. A waste of time if you asked me but who am I to judge. My soul mate is in love with my sister and practically mauled me to death.

Before I knew it, I was back home and Charlie was back at work.

My mom's funeral was a small affair but emotional. I am glad she can be with our ancestors and hopefully find peace.

A week later I found myself sitting on the couch listening to Emma after she finally found out it was not a bear that attacked me.

"I can't believe he would do that to you!"

Emma was pacing of course she was let in on the secret as Quil's other half. Quil stood there looking at the wall silently.

"He needs to be beat the fuck up! He is lucky he is a supernatural being or I would shove my foot so far up his-"

I stopped paying attention and just let her rant. Looking at Quil I tapped him on the shoulder.

"What's wrong Quil?"

Looking up at me he winced.

"I should have stood in between you and Jake. I didn't know he would lose it like that. None of us did. He was always the one who could control his anger you know. Always laid back and easy going. I guess finding out that instead of Bella, you were his impr-"

Stopping mid-sentence, he shakes his head and plops in the chair in the corner. Sighing in frustration he runs his hand through his hair.

"I was also sent here to deliver a message from the elders."

Tensing up I look at him more seriously. Did they know about the dreams? I haven't even had a chance to discuss it with dad yet. It just hasn't been the time.

"What do the elders want with me?"

Flinching slightly at my tone he shoots a look at Emma that I can not decipher.

"They want to discuss what happened and the reasons it did"

I was said so nonchalantly that it had me skeptical.

"Really that's it? Why can't anyone that was there tell them?"

Sighing in defeat he starts to explain.

"It is also about Jake. He hasn't been able to phase into a wolf since it happened. At first, we thought it was because he was scared that he would hurt someone again but its not that he just can't shift. The elders think if you talk to him maybe that would help."

"Hell no! I say good riddance! He obviously doesn't know how to control it, so it is a good thing he lost it."

Emma said while crossing her arms.

"Asking Nicole to go back and try to help him phase into the very thing that scarred her is super inconsiderate and hurtful."

She sits next to me and hugs me as they continue to go back and forth about why I should and should not go.

Looking between both as they argue What I should do I scoff.

"Jacob is to be the next alpha and he can not be that if he doesn't shift anymore. Besides I need to talk to the elders anyway."

They both stop arguing and look at me surprised. I get up carefully and head to my room to change.

Finding an appropriate outfit and making my way back downstairs, I notice that Emma and Quil are both quiet.

"What is the matter this time?"

Looking at each other again with the look I can't decipher they both shrug and we are on our way to meet with the elders.

Walking into the meeting hall was surreal. I had never had a reason to come in here and looking around you can feel the history the building holds. I see the pictures scattered across the walls of tribes from the past and even the current one.

I was led into a room and was welcomed with the sight of the whole pack and the elders. Billy, Old Quil, and Sue. I'm assuming she took the role as her husband had passed.

Looking at the pack my to my surprise I see Leah and Seth. I keep walking until I am standing in front of the elders. It was very reminiscent of a court room, and I defiantly felt like I was on trial.

"Thank you for coming Nicole, I know you have had a rough couple of weeks. On behalf of the tribe, we want to send you our condolences as we heard of your mothers passing."

"Thank you, Billy, I really appreciate that. I came as a courtesy to you. You have always looked out for me and despite the current situation La Push has always been a haven for me."

Nodding his head his smile slowly disappeared at the reminder of my attack.

"As Quil might has mentioned Jacob is unable to shift and we believe it has to do with the accident that occurred."

The pack started to all speak together either agreeing or disagreeing.

"Quiet! If you can not be silent, you will be removed from the meeting."

Old Quil yelled. Then looking at me he called Sam forward. Telling me the story of how he lost his temper and attacked Emily. Sam shed tears during the story and had his head hung low in shame.

"So, you see unfortunately this has happened before but never has anyone lost the ability to shift."

The door opened and everyone's head snapped to it. Jacob walked in slowly looking like he hasn't bathed since the incident. His entrance sparked more arguments.

"I think that I could clear up some confusion."

It got quiet and all eyes were on me.

"The pack was blessed by the ancestors with this ability. Given with the promise that they would keep the tribe safe and eliminate any threats who intended harm. While Sam and Jacob both attacked someone, it messed up to say Emily is was not part of the tribe yet. Jacob has disrespected the gift given to him by the ancestors by attacking one of his own."

The pack all looked confused, but the elders looked shocked.

"That doesn't make any sense. Jake attacked you not someone in the tribe"

Mummers of agreement spread through the pack as the elders continued to look at me in shock.

"That is true he did attack me, but I am part of the tribe. My mothers real name was Jacira Uley the twin sister of Joshua."

The pack erupted in yells and chaos as I finally made eye contact with Jacob.
