I tensed up as I looked out the window trying to see into the house.
"A vampire?!" I asked panicked
He nods solemnly. "The Cullens are back.
I let out a breath of relief before tensing back up. I always thought the Cullens were weird but now I know they are vampires. How can I knowingly go in there? I feel my heart start beating rapidly and my breaths coming out fast and loud.
Embry looks at me concerned.
"With the Cullens back in town we cannot protect you here. Treaty rules we have no jurisdiction on Forks."
Was that supposed to make me feel better? I would've said something akin to that if I didn't feel like my heart was going to explode.
Trying to calm down my breathing and rising terror in the situation we sat there in silence.
"Maybe I can just stay with you for a couple of days?"
Embry sat and thought about it before smiling. With his acceptance my heart finally started to beat normally. I relaxed my body into the seat as he started to back up. Glancing out the window for the last time I noticed my dad's cruiser pull up. I don't even know how to describe the sound I made that came out of my mouth. It was despair mixed with terror and maybe a little bit of annoyance.
Either way I hopped out of the car and started running full speed toward the house my father just walked into. Reaching the door, I had no time to second guess myself as I flung it open and rushed in only to see a stand off between Charlie, Bella, and Edward.
Fear froze me in place at the doorway while I looked at Edward. While I always thought he was weird I never thought he was a killer. His head snapped to my direction as I thought this. It wasn't possible to get any more tense than I already was but that didn't stop my body from trying as I let out a whimper.
Dad's and Bella's head turn in my direction. One looking annoyed and the other confused.
"Niks what's wrong? Did you hurt yourself?"
Tearing my gaze away from count Dracula I shake my head and slowly walk to my dad before wrapping him up in a hug. He laughed awkwardly as he patted my back.
"Okay I'm getting worried here"
"What is he doing here"
I attempted to whisper to my dad.
"As you can see Bella is back. She left only to leave a note saying that she would be back. Imagine my surprise when not only my 18-year-old daughter finally returns but returns with Edward. The boy who broke her heart and left her for dead in the woods."
"Charlie! It was all a misunderstanding. We are in love."
Bella said proudly as I turned to face her. She was looking up lovingly at Nosferatu as they held hands. As I looked at him my pulse once again skyrocketed. Having seen the damage a vampire could do, him standing there casually had me on edge.
He looked at me and frowned as if trying to solve a puzzle. As he opened his mouth to say something a knock sounded at the door.
Grumbling dad went to answer it.
"Embry how are you doing it's been a while since you visited. Man, I'll tell you those La Push bays keep getting bigger and bigger each year. What can I help you with?"
"Hello, sir I came to check on Nicole. She left abruptly and I was worried."
He looked at me and smiled. Him being there did help me relax slightly I smiled back at him and hugged him.
"You came in for me"
I said smiling. My heart started to flutter as he looked down and smiled back at me.
"I always have your back Niks."
"When did this happen?"
I jump in surprise breaking up the hug we both blush and look at my dad.
"Nothing happened he's one of my best friends."
"Can we focus on important manners. As you can see Edward is back for good. His family have moved back into their old house, and we will both be attending University of Alaska."
Bella said interrupting as usual. We all looked towards them. I tense back up until Embry grabs my hand. I smile up at him quickly.
"I have also asked her to marry me before we leave."
The silence that followed would've been comical if it wasn't for the fact that she was trying to be a capri sun for a literal vampire. Of course, I hated Bella, but I don't want her to die. He's going to drain her.
His head snapped towards me with a glare. I backed up a little as my heart started beating fast. The only thing I could hear was my heart beating. I started to hyperventilate. I barely felt Embry's hand squeezing mine as I felt darkness.
Opening my eyes, I am at the end of a clearing. There stood Bella looking otherworldly. I took a step forward and her head snapped towards me. Piercing red eyes felt like they cut into my soul. Smirking she ran towards me. I bolted up gasping.
Looking around I took note that I was in my room. With my heart still beating uncontrollably fast I went to my door and locked it. Not that it would stop an actual vampire, but it did help me feel a little better.
I am not going to lie the nightmare had me a little bit shook. Thankfully, a week later Bella and her blood sucker left to visit her mother in Florida. How he was going to deal with the sun was his problem. I was finally able to relax before I realized he was going to turn her, and they would come back and kill us. The nightmare stayed and it had me paranoid.
The next couple of days I spent glued to dad's side. Worrying that Bella would come back and kill us.
I was watching football with dad while trying to stay up as I was bored out of my mind. I got a call.
"Hey wanna hang out tonight Quil has patrol and I haven't seen you in forever."
Looking at my dad I sighed.
"I'm hanging out with my dad Emma. We can hang out another time."
Before I could say anything else my phone was snatched from my hand.
"Emma this is Charlie. Nicole would love to go with you. Im sure spending all her free time with her old dad is boring. She was practically falling asleep watching the game with me."
I looked down in embarrassment I didn't know he saw me falling asleep.
"Dad, I like hanging out with you"
"Niks, I love you but you really need to get out. Even old men like me need some alone time here and there."
"Thanks dad"
I ran upstairs to get ready. 20 minutes later I hear the car pull up and run to the door. Before I leave, I run and hug dad tightly.
"Stay safe dad. Call me when Bella and her le- uh boyfriend get back and I'll come home."
I let out a breath as I plop in Emma's car.
She chuckles and takes off.
"Where are we headed?"
I ask as I we her passed her house.
"La Push of course. Quil gets antsy when I'm in Forks especially since the Cullens are back."
Nodding in understanding I watch the scenery out the window as we make small talk before pulling up at Emily's house. Walking in I notice a lack of wolves and Emily cooking what smells like brownies.
"Hey Emily, how have you been?"
Looking up she smiles at us as we take a seat. "Nicole! We've missed you around here"
"Where is everyone? Usually, this place has a couple of pack members around."
Emily looked away suddenly and stared out the window.
"They are meeting with the Cullens apparently there is a war brewing. All centered around Bella and the vampire her boyfriend killed."
"Wait what!?" Emma and I yelled simultaneously.
On the drive home I wondered if the pack could survive this. Absentmindedly stroking my scar, I wish Emma a good night.
Walking in the house a shiver rocked through me. I suddenly felt very uneasy, and my body didn't want to move. I called out for my dad but received no answer. Forcing myself to walk I made my way to my room. Looking around nothing was out of place.
I start to get ready for bed and go to close the window before I freeze again. I closed the window before I left why is it opened.
I don't know why but I pulled out my phone and called Jacob. He should be able to tell if someone has been in here, right?
No answer. I try again only to go straight to voicemail.
I close my eyes in defeat.
It's okay I'm just overreacting. I probably left the window open and forgot. I lock the window and go to get my clothes ready for bed. I cannot find my favorite sleeping shirt. I just washed it and threw it on my dresser so I could wear it tonight.
The feeling of dread slowly returns as my mind thinks of all the possibilities. Come on Nicole who would steal just one shirt? I try so hard to convince myself that I am just overreacting. I feel tears staring to form and my heart starting to beat faster and faster as I cant stop thinking about it.
Looking at my phone I dial a number and hope they pick up.
"Hello?" A voice full of sleep answered.
"I'm sorry I didn't know you were sleep. I didn't really know who to call. I tried calling Jacob but he didn't answer."
I try to hold back the panic in my voice.
"Nicole what's wrong?"
"I think someone has been in my room. I know for a fact I shut my window, but it was wide open when I got home. My favorite shirt is missing, and I just know I put in on the dresser. Dad isn't here I think he's at work. I'm really scared, and I don't know what to do."
I wipe my eyes as I hear shuffling on the phone.
"I'm on my way I'll be there in five minutes. Go to the living room and wait for me okay. I promise you're safe."
Agreeing we hang up and I go to the living room and sit on the couch curing into a blanket.
I jump at the knock on my door and hesitate.
"Nicole its me open the door."
I run and fling the door open jumping into his arms bawling.
"I'm so sorry Embry. I'm just so scared and the feeling won't go away no matter how hard I tried. I just feel like something is off."
He hugs my tightly and sets me down grabbing my hand.
"All I smell is the Cullens here. Let's go check your room together and put your mind at ease so you can get some sleep." He said smiling softly at me.
As I nodded, he yawned and started to lead me up the stairs. I felt bad waking him up. He probably thinks I'm a big baby that can't handle being alone. Before I could finish my train of thought we make it to my room and Embry freezes suddenly and starts shaking.
Dropping his hand, I jump away in fear. Thinking back to the time I was scarred not wanting to be hurt again. I can tell that he was trying to reign it in but having trouble. Taking a deep breathe I moved forward and laid my hand on his arm.
"Em are you okay? What's wrong?"
His shaking stopped slightly as he turned to me.
"Someone has been in here."
