Third Person POV:
Bianca glanced at Zoe's prone figure, seeing Percy appear in front of the lieutenant, say a few words, before disappearing into vapor. She crawled over to the lieutenant and glanced worriedly at the arm the girl was holding.
"Zoe?" Bianca asked, her brown eyes meeting exhausted black orbs. "Where's Percy going?"
"He's going after Lady Artemis," Zoe almost whispered back. "He sensed her aura weakening, so he went first."
Bianca sighed in relief. "And here I thought something was wrong. If anyone can save her now, it's him."
A grunt made them start and look up in horror. Atlas was somehow back on his feet, a new javelin in his hands, his eyes dark with pain and madness. Though his shoulders and knees bleed green from the Greek fire, the Titan general stood up, his body clearly rippling with strength of his powerful muscles despite his fully outfitted Greek armor.
"ZOE!" He roared like an uncaged beast. "Your hero is gone now to save that bitch! He will be slaughtered by our army, and I... I will kill you in his absence."
Zoe stood and fired and volley of arrows at the chinks in Atlas' armor, her face refusing to wet from tears. "You won't. I promised him I wouldn't die."
Atlas laughed maniacally, swatting aside the arrows with ease. "Your promises are empty. There is nothing you can do to stop me."
Bianca joined Zoe, fighting her hardest to stave off the titan of strength, the two hunters dancing around the general like he was some rabid beast from hell. From the way the hunters looked however, Atlas was the hunter in this game, not Zoe or Bianca.
Atlas thrust forward, grazing Bianca's side with the tip, making the girl wince as she barely curved around it. Zoe used Atlas' thrust as an opening to shoot into his neck and back, which only made the Titan more annoyed than hurt. He bellowed and shifted direction, charging at Zoe who ran as nimbly as she could to avoid the javelin hitting her at all costs.
Zoe found herself backed up against the very wall she had been resting against moments prior. Her eyes flashed momentarily fear before she steeled herself, drawing a short blade from behind her that was instantly knocked out of her hands.
Altas snarled as Bianca attempted to intercept him, only to be roughly backhanded to the side where she hit a boulder jutting out from the mountain before slumping.
"Bianca–!" Zoe yelled, only to find the tip of the javelin swipe past her face, cutting a red line across her cheekbone.
"Uh uh uh," Atlas chuckled. "You have more things to worry about than your so-called sister."
Zoe steeled her eyes, reaching up to notch another arrow. She said nothing as Atlas approached her.
When he charged, Zoe shot and fell to the side, the only way she could go to dodge the hit. Even then, Atlas swung hard and fast, a hit that would definitely hit her leg and shatter it. The huntress braced herself for the imminent pain, only to hear a hard clang of metal against metal, and turned to find Atalanta blocking the hit with Riptide, her sea green eyes not unlike Percy's, which were burning with sharp anger.
"Don't touch her," Atalanta said, slapping the javelin point aside.
"Weaklings," Atlas growled, "You're all weaklings beneath me!"
"That's not how I imagined this would go," Atalanta said, blocking and parrying his followup attacks. "I for one don't want to be under you under any circumstances."
"ARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!" Atlas unleashed a maddening flurry of swipes, thrusts, and stabs, Atalanta managing just barely to take every hit or redirect them, her flawless swordsmanship and demigod instincts keeping her alive and moving. She knew that if she took one hit, that was it. Her body was tiring, not used to such an intense fight, not even when she faced Ares. There was no ocean to help her this time. It was just her and this mad Titan.
"I won't let you kill Zoe," Atalanta promised, spitting blood and sweat to the side.
Atlas growled. "Then you will die."
He charged her once more and this time, Atalanta couldn't defend herself. The words that Ares had told her back then flashed in her head, Your sword will fail you in the moment that you need it most. Atalanta gritted her teeth, before Atlas slammed the butt of his javelin into her gut, straight past her sword and throwing her at Athena's feet.
"Urrrrgh..." Atalanta groaned. She knew she was no match for the Titan, yet struggled all the same to pick herself up and keep fighting. Without water or ambrosia though, Atalanta succeeded in only pushing herself onto her knees, her breathing choppy as she struggled to regain herself. She watched Zoe dart uselessly around Atlas' attacks, the lieutenant clearly tiring fast. Bianca still hadn't waken yet, and Thalia and Annabeth were still engaged in the ferocious battle against Luke.
Atalanta glanced at Athena. With Percy out of the fight, the next strongest fighter would be Athena hands down, regardless the fact that she looked about to drop. Atalanta had a crazy idea.
"Lady Athena," she managed, crawling towards the goddess. "Give me the sky."
Athena looked at her like she was crazy. The goddess' forehead was beaded with metallic sweat, like quicksilver. "Are you insane?! You'll be crushed!"
Atalanta grimaced, her eyes glowing with a steely glint of determination and strength she wasn't sure where she got it from. "You have a better chance than I do against Atlas. So give me the damn sky, NOW!"
Atalanta moved next to the goddess and sliced her chains apart. She put her hands up, getting a feel for just how bad things were going to get. For a moment, they held the weight together. Even with the goddess' help, it felt like she was getting compressed by a thousand trucks. Then, Athena got out.
Atalanta didn't even have the strength to scream. Millions of thousands of tons of air sat on her shoulders, making her muscles burn with heat hotter than the inferno of a forest fire. Her bones felt like they were melting, or if something inside was crushing them with a set of pliers. Atalanta didn't have any energy to do anything else but focus on her breathing and maintaining her weight. She imagined Percy's cool face in front of her, and used that as a latching point to keep her conscious. Atalanta briefly wondered in Percy had held the sky in his world too, and thought that if her male self could do it, there was no question whether or not she could do it as well. Atalanta pushed back against the sky, her mind throwing all its might into holding the world for the sake of said world's survival.
Atalanta watched through teary eyes the battle run in front of her. Somehow, Atlas had managed to catch onto Zoe and had grabbed the girl by the neck, before winging said huntress to the side, making the girl slam hard into the black walls before slumping down. Atalanta almost cried seeing Zoe's frail form, but when the girl stirred slightly, Atalanta managed to choke back her sobs. Athena stepped in, stopping Atlas from further going towards Zoe and engaging with the Titan a ferocious battle that Atlas was clearly unprepared for. Still, the Titan of Strength had no problem bouncing back, the crazed light in his eyes ever so much brighter.
The daughter of Poseiden began to only see in red haze. Glimpses of the battle flashed by blearily, like a really old footage playing in front of Atalanta's face. There was Atlas in full battle armor, laughing insanely as he fought, his shoulders and knees still green from Percy's sword. And Athena, a blur of gray, armed with a golden spear and bronze shield as she deftly dodged and leaped with unbelievable grace, attacking strategically and dealing heavy blows to the Titan. She seemed to change form as she maneuvered. She was a tiger, an owl, a gazelle, an owl again.
Sweat slid in streams off of Atalanta's face. Her hands were slippery, yet maintained a firm grip on the sky. Her shoulders screamed in agony, her vertebrae seconds from snapping.
"COME ON!" Atalanta yelled, cementing her powerful resolve to take on this impossible task in order to buy time for Athena. "COME ON!"
Atlas advanced, pressing Athena. She was fast, but his strength was unstoppable. It seemed his wounds has healed enough to a certain degree that he was barely feeling the pain at all. His javelin slammed into the earth where Athena had been a split second before, and a fissure opened in the rocks. He leaped over it and kept pursuing her. She was leading him back towards Atalanta.
Get ready, she spoke in Atalanta's mind.
Right, Atalanta managed. Whatever was coming, she was ready for it, though her mind was close to shattering.
"You fight well for a girl," Atlas laughed. "But you are no match for me."
He feinted with the tip of his javelin and Athena dodged. I saw the trick coming. Atlas' javelin swept around and knocked Athena's legs off the ground. She fell, and Atlas brought up his javelin tip for the kill.
"The first blood in a new war," The Titan gloated. And he stabbed downward.
Athena's acting skills were perfect. The exhaustion on her face drained instantly as she grabbed onto his javelin shaft. It hit the earth right next to her and she pulled it backward, using the javelin like a lever, kicking the Titan and sending him flying over her. Atalanta saw what was coming and smirked. She loosened her grip on the sky, and the moment Atlas' body slammed into hers, Atalanta used that push to shoot herself out from under the sky, trapping Atlas back under his burden.
"NOOOOOOOOOOO!" The general of Kronos screamed in anger and frustration. He bellowed so hard it shook the mountain. "NOT AGAIN!"
Atalanta collapsed, her arms and legs useless temporarily after doing what she thought was possibly the stupidest thing she had ever challenged herself to do. Who knew that carrying so many oxygen and nitrogen molecules would be so hard?
"Brains over Brawn," Atalanta murmured, "Nice one, Lady Athena."
She didn't think the goddess heard her, as Athena immediately rushed towards Luke. Atalanta crawled towards Zoe, the girl laying at an awkward unnatural angle, many parts of her body clearly broken in more ways than one.
"Hey...Hey Zoe," Atalanta breathed, "Zoe, get up. He's done."
The huntress remained still and unconscious, making the watching girl worry immensely. She began making her way to Bianca before a piercing yell cut through the air.
"ANNABETH!"
Athena dropped to her knees in front of her daughter. "My daughter, what happened?"
Thalia gasped, her hand covering her mouth, tears flowing even faster down her eyes. "Annabeth..."
Atalanta punched the ground. "No. Not Annie too..."
She clenched Zoe's hand, the girl that it was connected to still unmoving.
"Hey...HEY!" A green and black blur flew through the sky and landed on the mountain, before standing up to reveal Percy. "What the fuck happened here?"
§§§§§
Percy POV:
I took in the scene. Thalia and Athena in tears as the goddess held onto Annabeth's body, a massive hole through the left side of her chest. I didn't even need to scan for vitals. I knew without a doubt that Annabeth was dead. A wound like that was as fatal as a pointblank shotgun shot.
And Zoe. Atalanta was gripping the girl's hand, the girl unmoving and still. Her eyes were shut as if she were asleep, the only sign of her still being alive was the gentle rise and fall of her chest.
I walked over with Artemis still hugged tightly in my arms, her mind still completely out of it. Atalanta noticed and her eyes widened. "Is that... Artemis?"
I nodded solemnly. "They didn't rape her, thank god. But they've done a lot of damage. I tried calling her by name, but all she does is moan." I said seriously. "Seriously, whatever they did to her is messed up. I don't know how its going to be reversed. And Zoe..." I cupped the girl's face carefully, her breath warm against my hand. I managed a humorless laugh. "Oh, the Hunters are gonna kill me."
Atalanta smiled weakly, then left me alone as she went to help Bianca onto her feet.
"We need to go," Thalia winced, helping Athena stand. The goddess held Annabeth's body in her hands, her head down, eyes filled with grief.
I slung Artemis on my back carefully, making sure that my clothes still covered her more... personal features, and gently picked up Zoe from the ground, using the water from the air to heal as much physical damage as I could. Her body was littered with fractures and breaks, the arm I had healed before broken twice as much as before.
"Come on, Zoe," I murmured. "Stay with me."
She remained motionless, though her face seemed to relax as I siphoned the pain away from her body. She slumped in my arms and still didn't wake, the battle clearly taking too much of a toll.
Atalanta walked over, acting as a brace for Bianca who's face was also pained.
"Lady Athena," I said. "Can you take Thalia, Atalanta, and Bianca with you?"
The goddess stayed mute but nodded, a silver and gold chariot coming to a rest beside them that was pulled by owls bigger than my entire body. They seemed to glare at me as the goddess and three other living occupants boarded it, making me back away slightly.
"How are you going to get to Olympus?" Thalia asked, her face dark and damp with tears.
I closed my eyes then opened them slowly. "I'm going to flame travel there. But first, I have a parting gift for the Titans themselves."
My friends nodded in understanding and Thalia placed a hand on Athena's shoulder, giving her the go to start their way to Olympus.
The moment they left, I activated Black Flame one final time, using the last of my energy. Doing this would get Hades' attention for sure, but I didn't care anymore. A black and silver ball of flame wrapped around me like a column of monstrous wind, shooting a beacon of swirling flames into the sky that roared death. The only thing one could see from the outside was my singular silver white eye that glowed as sharp and bright as a medical laser beam. Using my last reservoir of energy, I released a wave of black and silver fire that trampled the remaining 30% of monsters down the mountain, reducing the rest of the army, both human and monster into straight ashes. I didn't stick around to see Atlas' look of horror. With one last second of focus, I imagined the hall of Olympus and vanished in a wisp of flame.
§§§§§
I landed in the glowing gold halls of the palace, my feet unstable. I shouldn't have used so much power, but I had to, to escape there safely and push Kronos' time schedule back. I knew that Luke was still alive despite falling back first off a cliff, and wasn't gonna take any chances in letting him get away scot free. Ruining 100% of his army was the least I could do for the crap he pulled on Artemis.
Speaking of the goddess, she was still unresponsive to her name. Her body was clean of bruises now, at least the surface level ones, and any abrasions or whatnot on her skin, but her mind was still... not Artemis. And Zoe looked even worse, despite me healing her as best I could as well. It looked like she was dying but I couldn't tell, as my medical knowledge didn't stretch that far. I checked my watch. I had 5 minutes before the solstice meeting.
I scanned the whole of Olympus, using water molecules in the air to find where the heck Apollo's infirmary was. When I found it, I didn't run there, I teleported directly inside, scaring Apollo shitless.
"HOLY FUC—! PERCY!" Apollo yelled. "Geezus, you scared me." He looked at me closely and noticed my fatigue, as well as the two girls on me. "Dude, what have you been...!"
I laid Zoe on a bed and slung Artemis carefully into one too. "Apollo, tend to them. I don't know what the fuck they did to Artemis, but she won't respond to me."
Apollo's face went from happy to serious in half a second, his hands moving quickly as he worked to do just that, figuring out his sister's condition. I've never seen the god so worked up in my life, his face gaining more anxiety by the second.
While he did that, I worked on healing Zoe even further, literally summoning water from the fountains and sinks to heal the brutal damage she had taken. It looked like she had been slapped around by extreme force, which made me wonder what had happened in my absence. I didn't dwell on that thought for too long, wanting more for Zoe to recover than anything else.
Soon, there was little else I could do but wait. I told Apollo that I would go out to take a quick breather, but the god seemed to ignore me, his face white from loss of energy from hymns or anxiousness or both, I don't know, but his actions were erratic and panicky, which meant things weren't looking too good.
I stepped outside and the moment I did, the air cooled. Suddenly, everything around me darkened, as if everything had lost color.
I stopped and tried to move forward, but found I couldn't move but in place. "Yo, Apollo?!"
"He can't hear you," A single voice said, before shimmering to life, the three Fates standing before me.
I growled. "You guys. Of course. I should've known." I didn't disguise the anger in my voice. I had seen enough bullcrap today, I didn't want to deal with more.
"Perseus Achilles Jackson, origin world 6A" they said as a trio. "You've violated the natural order of the world and changed the path of this reality. Thus, your chance to return is impossible."
"Wait..." I said, processing their words in my head. "What the fuck do you mean by impossible?!"
"You cannot leave this reality," They said, their faces expressionless. "You're now a part of this world. But as compensation, we will leave you a few gifts. Good luck in this reality, Perseus Achilles Jackson." Then they vanished.
Time restarted and I fell to the ground, slamming my nose into the ground. I picked myself up and shook my head.
"What the fuck?" I asked. "HEY! YOU CAN'T JUST FORCE ME TO STAY!"
I got no response and sighed, wiping my nose which had started bleeding. Damn, I would need to visit the infirmary myself now.
That's when I realized something.
I couldn't believe it but I raised by hand.
The one that had wiped my nose.
The one that dripped liquid gold onto the white floors below.
Fuck.
A/N:
And yes, the battle has come to an end. And Percy has found this situation to be a lot more complicated than he ever expected. The Fates strike again!
