It was now morning at the magic school of Hogwarts and the first week of classes began. Devon, Harry, and Ron were running through the halls of the castle, trying to make it in time for their first class, which was Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall. It was hard for them to find their way due to the dozens of changing staircases and the tricky doorways. But they soon got help from Sir Nicholas, who pointed them in the right direction.
At Classroom 1b, which was on the ground floor around the middle courtyard, a silver tabby cat sits on a desk on the other side of the room, watching over the students as they were already working on their papers. The room was big, surrounded by high windows, and had four rows of three desks. Next to the professor's desk was a chalkboard with a diagram written on it. This diagram showed the formula for Transfiguration magic. Also on this chalkboard was the Transfiguration alphabet, detailing the translations of each letter to the 26 letters in the English alphabet. Along the sides of the room were one or two bookshelves and cages housing only one bird as they were perched quietly inside. Behind the professor's desk were several candlesticks that stood lit.
The doors to the classroom suddenly open and Devon, Harry, and Ron rush inside. Malfoy was also in attendance for the class and he looked back as he saw his rivals arrive. Hermione looks back as she saw the three boys enter, but she just shakes her head and returns completing her assignment. The Keyblade Wielder and the two young wizards walk down the center aisle as they approach the desk and the cat.
"Whew. Made it. Can you imagine the look on old McGonagall's face if we were late?" Ron says
The silver cat jumps from the desk and transforms into Professor McGonagall as she comes to greet the boys, who were stunned by what they just saw.
"That was bloody brilliant." Ron says amazed
"Oh, thank you for that assessment, Mr. Weasley. Perhaps it would be more useful if I were to transfigure you and Mr. Potter into a pocket watch? That way, one of you might be on time." McGonagall says
"We got lost." Harry says
"Then perhaps a map? I trust you don't need one to find your seats?" McGonagall says
Harry and Ron go to take their seats. Devon was about to take his seat with them, but not before turning to Professor McGonagall.
"I apologize for the inconvenience, professor. I'll try and make sure it doesn't happen again." Devon says
Professor McGonagall kindly smiled and nodded her head to Devon. Having said that, Devon goes to join his two friends as the class continued.
Over the next hour, Devon learned much about Transfiguration. How it was complex and dangerous magic, requiring much concentration, precise wand movement, proper pronunciation of an incantation, and great effort to perform. During the class, Professor McGonagall turned her desk into a pig and back with just a wave of her wand as a demonstration, impressing most of the students in the room. Even Devon himself was impressed by this display of magic. He was sure there was some spells to be learned with Professor McGonagall, but that probably wouldn't happen anytime soon.
Later on, Devon and Harry were with the rest of his friends as they prepared for their next class, which was potions with Professor Snape, who was a very strict professor. Not many of the students favored being in class with him due to his seemingly cold, cynical, bitter, sarcastic nature. This was not surprising as he was head of Slytherin House. Not only that, he wasn't particularly fond of Gryffindor students, believing they were arrogant, attention-seeking dunderheads.
The classroom was a large square-sized room down in one of the castle's dungeons. It was dimly lit and was colder here than it was up in the main castle. It was especially creepy as there were glass jars of pickled animals lined in the stone walls. There were long, large tables in the room, housing steaming, bubbling cauldrons and glass jars and phials containing specific ingredients like dragon's blood and moondew that were used in potion-making. One corner of the room had a stone basin where ice-cold water poured from a gargoyle's mouth where students would wash their hands, while in another was a supply cupboard. In the back of the room was a wooden platform which had the professor's desk as well as a blackboard used for class instructions.
The students were chatting amongst themselves as they awaited the Potions Master. But they didn't have to wait long as the door slammed open with Professor Snape entering the classroom. His commanding presence instantly filled the room with silence as he moved to the back and turned to face the group. Devon looked up at Professor Snape and he could tell that he was not a happy character. His cold expression and harsh authoritarian attitude made Devon feel slightly nervous as if even the slightest bump could cause him to explode and lose his temper. He really did not want to get on his bad side. If he was gonna be making potions in class alongside Harry and his friends, he would do well not to make a mistake at all infront of him. But despite his nervousness towards the Potion Master, Devon kept his cool as Snape stood up on the platform, speaking to the class in a soft, contained voice with a seemingly calm, controlled exterior.
"There will be no foolish wand-waving or silly incantations in this class. As such, I don't expect many of you to appreciate the subtle science and exact art that is potion making. However, for those select few... who possess the predisposition..." Snape says
Snape crosses his arms and looks upon each of the students with his piercing gaze.
"I can teach you how to bewitch the mind and ensnare the senses. I can tell you how to bottle fame, brew glory, and even put a stopper in death." Snape says
The potions professor looks over and saw Harry writing down his words in a notebook, but he didn't realize and instead thought that he was either ignoring him or wasn't simply paying him any attention.
"Then again, maybe some of you have come to Hogwarts in possession of abilities so formidable that you feel confident enough to not pay attention." Snape says
Harry finishes up with his notes and puts his quill into it's ink pot. He then looks up at Professor Snape, who stares at him intently.
"Mr. Potter... Our new celebrity. Tell me, what would I get if I added powdered root of Asphodel to an infusion of Wormwood?" Snape says
Hermione immediately raised her left-hand as she seemed to know the answer. Harry looks over at Hermione, then looks over at Devon, who shrugs. He then glances back at Snape and shakes his head.
"You don't know? Well, let's try again. Where, Mr. Potter, would you look if I ask you to find me a Bezoar?" Snape asks
Again, Hermione raises her hand in knowing the answer. And again Harry shakes his head.
"I don't know, sir." Harry says
"And what is the difference between Monkshood and Wolfbane?" Snape asks
"I don't know, sir." Harry says
"Pity. Clearly, fame isn't everything, is it, Mr. Potter." Snape says
"Uh, excuse me, Professor Snape, but I'm curious as to the ingredients you mentioned. Could you care to explain?" Devon says
Snape instantly turns his gaze to Devon, which caused a chill to run down his spine. The Potions Master walks over to Devon and Harry's table, takes a stool, and sits down infront of the two boys, staring them straight in the eye.
"For your information, Asphodel and Wormwood make a potent sleeping potion so powerful that it is known as the Draught of Living Death. A Bezoar is a stone taken from the stomach of a goat and will save you from most poisons. As for Monkshood and Wolfbane, they are the same plant which also goes by the name of Wiggenweld." Snape says
"That's very, uh..." Devon says
Devon nods his head three times to Professor Snape.
"...useful information, professor. Uh... thank you for explaining to us." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder gives the Potion Master a sheepish smile. The room became very still as Snape stared intently at Devon and Harry.
"Well, why aren't you all copying this down?" Snape asks with his eyes slowly looking over to the left at the other students
Almost immediately, every student in the room open their notebooks and write down what they just heard from Professor Snape in their notes. Snape returns to his desk and goes to work on his own paperwork, but not before issuing Gryffindor students a warning.
"Gryffindors, note that 5 points will be taken from your house... for classmates cheating." Snape warns
While the rest of the students continue taking notes, Devon and Harry both stare at Professor Snape, sharing suspicious expressions. Despite his bitterness, there was something about him that seemed off.
Days at Hogwarts passed by as Devon participated in the more magic classes with Harry, Ron, and Hermione. History of Magic was a bit boring and Potions with Professor Snape was even more unpleasant given his harsh attitude and his strict instructions. Astronomy was okay with the study of stars and planets. Herbology in the Hogwarts Greenhouses proved to be quite interesting as Devon learned of the magic plants that inhabited the Wizarding World, the important ingredients used in potion-making, and dangerous plants like Devil's Snare and how to defend against them. But out of all the classes, Devon was especially interested in Charms, Transfiguration, and the Defense Against The Dark Arts, and the magic spells learned from them. Harry was able to learn of a defensive spell from Professor Quirrell like the Knockback Spell: Flipendo and a unique charms spell from Professor Flitwick named Lumos, the Illuminating Spell. Malfoy and his gang were pretty much in the same classes as Devon and Harry and their friends, much to their displeasure. Overall, it seemed like a good start for the wizard boy and Keyblade Wielder in Hogwarts.
At the end of the first week, Devon and the students were enjoying themselves to a morning breakfast. Seamus was waving his wand at a glass cup of water, trying to use a spell.
"Eye of rabbit, harp string hum. Turn this water into rum." Seamus says
Nothing happened to the water in the cup and Seamus kept up the process, repeating the words over and over while waving his wand. Devon, Harry, and Ron noticed what Seamus was trying to do and they look over at him from their side.
"What's Seamus trying to do to that glass of water?" Harry asks
"Turn it to rum. Actually managed a weak tea yesterday, before..." Ron says
Suddenly, a small explosion bursts from the cup with a flash of light and a loud boom, causing the students around him to jump with a start, wince their eyes, and look towards him. Seamus' face had burnt marks on his face and a few bits of his hair was singed from the explosion and smoke was flowing out from the cup. The few students at Gryffindor's table and other houses laughed.
"Before that?" Devon says pointing to Seamus with his right-hand while looking at Ron
An owl screech is heard in the air and everyone looks up.
"Ah! Mail's here." Ron says
A flurry of hundreds of owls fly into the Great Hall through small openings high up in the ceiling and soar above the room, carrying mail packages and Daily Prophet newspapers in their beaks and talons. They fly to the students below. Ron recieved a letter from his family. He also recieved a newspaper from his owl, but puts it aside. Harry takes the newspaper and looks up at Ron.
"Can I borrow this?" Harry asks
Ron nods his head and continues on with his breakfast. Neville catches a small box from his owl, which was wrapped up with some twine. He pulls the twine, opens the box, and takes out a magic large marble-sized glass ball.
"Hey, look. Neville's got a Remembrall." A boy says
"I've read about those. When the smoke turns red, it means you've forgotten something." Hermione says
The empty Remembrall fills up with grey smoke, but then quickly turns red as Hermione said this, indicating that Neville had indeed forgotten something.
"The only problem is, I can't even remember what I've forgotten." Neville says
Harry looks down at the newspaper and notices something strange and interesting.
"Hey, Devon. Someone broke into Gringotts last night." Harry says
"What?" Devon says shocked
"Listen." Harry says
Devon, Ron, and Hermione look over the newspaper and they saw a magic picture showing a group of goblins standing near and moving around infront of the open vault in the background, investigating the break-in attempt. The title of the newspaper read: 'Break-in at Gringotts'. Harry read an article in the text, describing the strange mystery.
"'Believed to be the work of dark wizards or witches unknown, Gringotts goblins, while acknowledging the breach, insists nothing was taken. The vault in question, number 713 had, in fact, been emptied the very same day.' That's odd." Harry reads
"That's the vault Hagrid, Harry, and I went to." Devon says
Devon and the Wizarding Trio shared glances with each other. Devon and Harry remember that Hagrid had taken a small package from the vault and was not told anything about it. Whoever tried to break into the vault must've wanted the mysterious item very bad. Obviously, the item in question seemed to be very important as for someone to attempt a break-in just to steal it. But the question still remained. What was the mysterious package? Who would want to steal it? And why?
Two weeks later, classes at Hogwarts continued as Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione, along with students from both Gryffindor and Slytherin stood in the Training Grounds, which was a flat, short-cut grassy area as they got ready for their next class, which was a flying lesson on broomsticks supplied from the school. Teaching the class was Madame Rolanda Hooch, who walked in-between the students.
"Good afternoon, class." Hooch greets
"Good afternoon, Madame Hooch." The students greet all together
"Good afternoon, Devon. Good afternoon." Hooch greets
Madame Hooch reaches the end of the line and turns to face her students.
"Welcome to your first flying lesson. Well, what are you all waiting for? Everyone step up to the left-side of their broomstick. Come on now. Hurry up." Hooch says
Devon and the students follow Madame Hooch's instructions and they step up to the left of their broomsticks.
"Stick your right-hand over the broom and say 'Up'." Hooch instructs
"Up!" Devon says
"Up!" Harry says
Devon and Harry catch their broomsticks on the first try while everyone else was struggling to grip theirs.
"Wow." Harry says
Malfoy was also able to catch his broom on his first try same as Devon and Harry. They were the only ones able to catch their brooms while everyone else struggled.
"With feeling." Hooch instructs
The lesson went on for about a minute. Most of the students were struggling to grab their broomsticks. Even Hermione was having difficulties with her broom.
"Up!" Ron says loudly with an annoyed voice
Ron's broom flips up vertically and whacks him right in the face. Devon winces while Harry laughs a bit.
"Ooh. That must've hurt. Ron, you alright?" Devon asks concerned
"Yeah. I'm okay." Ron says rubbing his face with his right-hand
Soon, everyone were holding onto their broomsticks as Madame Hooch continues on with the next step of the flying lesson.
"Now, once you've got hold of your broom, I want you to mount it and grip it tight. You don't want to be sliding off the end." Hooch instructs
The students mount their broomsticks as instructed.
"When I blow my whistle, I want each of you to kick your feet off from the ground hard. Keep your broom steady, hover for a moment, then lean forward slightly and touch back down." Hooch instructs
The flying instructor takes out a whistle and holds it in her right-hand.
"On my whistle. 3, 2..." Hooch says
Madame Hooch blows her whistle with a loud fweet, but before anyone could start their flying, Neville's broomstick slowly lifts him off from the ground while he holds on, whimpering nervously.
"Mr. Longbottom?" Hooch says
"Neville, what are you doing?" A girl asks
"We're not supposed to take off yet." Another girl says
"M-M-Mr. Long-Mr. Longbottom!" Hooch says
Neville soon starts flying high into the air while everyone watches him take off on his broomstick.
"Help!" Neville screams
"Come back down this instant!" Hooch says
"I don't think it's him, Madame Hooch. Something must be wrong with Neville's broomstick!" Devon says
Neville was helpless to control his broomstick as he was tossed around like a ragdoll, whipping back and forth and sent spinning in the air. He flies straight towards one of the towers in the courtyard and bounces four times along the stone wall from the head and tail of his broom. Then, he goes into an uncontrollable dive toward the ground. He pulls up at the last second and was sent spinning towards the group.
"Mr. Longbottom!" Hooch shouts
"Everyone move!" Devon shouts
Devon and Madame Hooch dive to the ground while everyone else quickly moves out of the way as Neville flies past them and into the passageway behind them. Neville flies back up into the air at another tower which had a statue holding a spear. As he flies over, his robe gets snagged by the statue's spear and he was pulled off his broomstick as it continued flying without him. Now, Neville was hanging several feet above the ground. Down below, the other students gather underneath and look up at him. Suddenly, Neville's robe rips and he falls to the ground. A torch catches his robe further down below, saving him from a fall that would've broken his legs. But then, Neville falls out of his robe and falls onto the ground, breaking his wrist in the fall.
"Everyone out of the way!" Hooch says
Madame Hooch and Devon rush over to Neville and kneel down to him.
"It's okay, Neville. We got you." Devon says
"Come on. Get up." Hooch says
Hooch wraps her arms around Neville and slowly lifts him up.
"Ow. Ow." Neville groans
"Oh, oh, oh, oh, dear. It's a broken wrist. Tch, tch, tch. Good boy. Come on now. Up you get." Hooch says
Devon places Neville's left-arm around him and assists Madame Hooch in lifting him up to his feet.
"Here. I got you, Neville. You're gonna be alright." Devon says
While Madame Hooch and Devon were helping Neville up, Malfoy notices Neville's Remembrall on the ground. He bends down and picks it up in his right-hand. Soon, Neville was up on his feet thanks to Madame Hooch and Devon.
"Thank you for your assistance, Devon. I'll take him from here." Hooch says
Devon nods his head and steps back.
"Everyone's to keep their feet firmly on the ground while I take Mr. Longbottom to the Hospital Wing, understand? If I see a single broom in the air, the one riding it will be out of Hogwarts before they can say 'Quidditch'." Hooch says
As Madame Hooch walks away with Neville, Malfoy walks over to his gang, showing Neville's Remembrall.
"Did you see his face? Maybe if the fat lump had given this a squeeze, he would have remembered to fall on his fat ass." Malfoy says
Crabbe, Goyle, and those in Slytherin laughed. Devon gripped his left-hand into a fist as he was fed up with Malfoy's bullying. He would not tolerate anyone teasing his friends. Harry felt the same way as they stepped up to Malfoy.
"That belongs to Neville." Devon says
"Give it here, Malfoy." Harry says
Malfoy turns to face his rivals.
"No. I think I'll leave it somewhere for Longbottom to find." Malfoy says
The blonde-haired boy catches the Remembrall in his hand and mounts his broom.
"How 'bout on the roof." Malfoy says
Malfoy flies up several feet above the ground and turns back to look down at Devon and Harry.
"What's the matter, Potter, Devon? A bit beyond your reach." Malfoy teases
Harry goes to confront Malfoy, but Hermione stands in his way to stop him.
"Harry, no way! You heard what Madame Hooch said. Besides, you don't even know how to fly." Hermione says
Harry ignores Hermione and mounts his broomstick, flying past her and up into the air.
"What an idiot." Hermione says
"Easy, Hermione. Harry's a fast learner. He knows what he's doing." Devon says
Devon mounts his broom and looks up.
"And so do I." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder follows Harry up to Malfoy and they hover in place infront of him. Harry looks over at Devon as he came up on his right and nods to him. Then, they both look back towards Malfoy.
"Give it here, Malfoy, or we'll knock you off your broom!" Harry says
"Is that so?" Malfoy says
Harry flies forward and goes to grab the Remembrall from Malfoy, but misses as the blonde-haired boy rolls over on his broomstick. Devon hovers infront of Malfoy to corner him.
"C'mon, Malfoy. There's two of us. You might as well hand it over." Devon says
"Have it your way, then." Malfoy says
Malfoy takes the glass ball and throws it into the air.
"No!" Devon says
Harry flies past Malfoy and chases after the Remembrall with Devon as it heads straight for a tower. Inside the tower was Professor McGonagall, filling out some paperwork in her office. She was tending to her school duties when she looked up and saw Harry and Devon heading straight for her. Harry rolls and catches the Remembrall in his right-hand, stopping right infront of the window. Professor McGonagall jumps with a slight start as the wizard boy and Keyblade Wielder came close to crashing through the window.
"Man. That was close. Nice catch, Harry." Devon says
"Thanks." Harry says
Having successfully caught the Remembrall, Devon and Harry fly back down to the grounds while McGonagall takes her glasses off and watches them. The two boys float down on their broomstick with Harry holding up the glass ball. The Gryffindors run over to the two boys and cheer loudly. Devon and Harry recieved pats on the shoulder from their fellow students as they congratulated them. The moment was soon interrupted by Professor McGonagall, who came walking toward the group.
"Harry Potter. Devon." McGonagall calls
Devon and the students look towards Professor McGonagall and they fall silent upon seeing her.
"Follow me." McGonagall says
The Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy follow Professor McGonagall while the students watched them go. Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle laughed, believing that they were in trouble.
Devon and Harry followed McGonagall as she led them through the halls of the castle, passing a few students along the way.
"Uh, Professor McGonagall, Harry's not in trouble or anything, is he? I mean, there was a bit of an flying accident with Neville and Malfoy stole his Remembrall, which Harry got back for him." Devon asks
"No need for concern, Devon. There's just a special task I have for him and you." McGonagall says
Eventually, they stop at a doorway, which led to Professor Quirrell's classroom, and the witch tells the two boys to wait.
"You both wait here." McGonagall says
Professor McGonagall walks into the classroom and calls out to Professor Quirrell as he was in the middle of teaching his class about Iguanas, holding one in his hands.
"Professor Quirrell, excuse me, excuse me. Can I borrow Wood for a moment, please?" McGonagall says
"Oh, y-yes. Of course." Quirrell says
McGonagall returns to Devon and Harry with another Gryffindor student in tow. She introduces them to their fellow student.
"Potter, Devon, this is Oliver Wood. Wood, I have found you a Seeker." McGonagall says smiling
"A Seeker? Professor, I don't understand." Devon says
"It's an important position for the upcoming Quidditch game between Gryffindor and Slytherin House. And there is something I'd like to request for you too, Devon. Katie Bell, one of the Chasers on Gryffindor team has injured herself during try-out practice and we cannot spare anyone else. And as it appears, you have exceptional flying skills. Seeing as this would be a new experience for you, I thought perhaps you would like to partake in the sport as a temporary replacement." McGonagall says
Devon puts his right-hand to his chin and thinks it over for a moment. He wanted to learn more about the sport of Quidditch and this was probably the perfect opportunity to experience it. Nodding his head, Devon agreed to the request.
"Sure. I'm up for it." Devon says
McGonagall smiles.
"Excellent. I shall have Wood explain the fundamentals of the game to you and Mr. Potter first thing tomorrow." McGonagall says
Devon and Harry look toward each other. The Keyblade Wielder gives the wizard boy on his right a thumbs up with his left-hand, excited that they were going to play Quidditch together. Harry smiles and nods his head.
After settling thing with Professor McGonagall, Devon and Harry caught up with Ron and they walked through the halls.
"Seeker? But first years never make the house teams. You must be the youngest Quidditch player..." Ron says
"In a century, according to McGonagall." Harry says
Fred and George catch up to the three boys and walk along with them.
"Hey, well done, Harry, Devon. Wood's just told us." Fred says
"Fred and George are on the team, too. Beaters." Ron says
"Beaters?" Devon asks
"Our job is to make sure that you and Harry don't get bloodied up too bad. Can't make any promises, of course. Rough game Quidditch." George says
"Brutal. But no one's died in years. Someone will vanish occasionally..." Fred says
"But they'll turn up in a month or two." George says
Devon, Harry, and Ron turn right and exit the hallway while the Weasley Brothers kept on walking, The trio head out into the school grounds and walk through one of the school's courtyards.
"Oh, go on, Harry. Quidditch is great. Best game there is. You'll be great. And Devon, too." Ron says
Hermione was in the same courtyard with a group of girls reading through a book when she saw the three boys. Seeing them, she got up and joined them as they kept on walking. Eventually, they stop.
"But I've never even played Quidditch. What if I make a fool of myself?" Harry says
"You won't make a fool of yourself. It's in your blood." Hermione says
"Hermione? What do you mean?" Devon asks
"Follow me." Hermione says
Hermione leads the three boys through a hallway towards a display cabinet that stood on their right. Inside this cabinet was a display of gold trophies and plaques displaying miniature shields with names on them. She points to a gold shield that quickly caught their eye. On this shield read:
Seeker
James Potter
1972
"Whoa. Harry, you never told me your father was a Seeker." Ron says
"I... didn't know." Harry says
Later that night, Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione walked together through the halls of Hogwarts and they come out into the Grand Staircase as they head for the Gryffindor Common Room, going up one of the many staircases.
"I'm telling you. It's spooky. She knows more about you than you do." Ron says
"Who doesn't?" Harry says
Suddenly, the staircase turns away from the wall and changes it's direction, causing Devon and the Wizarding Trio to gasp in surprise.
"What's happening?" Harry asks
"The staircases change. Remember?" Hermione says
The four friends hold onto the marble railing of the stairs as it turns to the left toward another passage with a closed door.
"Let's go this way." Harry says
"Before the staircase moves again." Ron says
Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione head through the door and they found themselves inside a dark corridor. No braziers were lit, leaving only the light from the Grand Staircase as the one available light source. And cobwebs covered the few statues that were in the corridor. More cobwebs also covered almost every corner of the corridor.
"Does anyone get the feeling that we shouldn't be here?" Ron asks
"We're not supposed to be here. This is the third floor. It's forbidden." Hermione says
"You mean this is the floor that's out-of-bounds?" Devon asks
A brazier on their left lights up unexpectedly.
"Right. Let's go." Devon says
Then, the four friends heard a meow behind them. They turn around and saw Mrs. Norris standing infront of them, staring at them with her yellow, lamp-like eyes. And if she was here, then Mr. Filch was not far behind.
"It's Filch's cat!" Hermione exclaims
"Run!" Harry says
Afraid of being caught, the Keyblade Wielder and Wizarding Trio run down the corridor away from Mrs. Norris. More braziers further down the corridor light up on their approach as they pass by. Up ahead, they notice a door at the end of the corridor.
"Quick! Let's hide through that door!" Harry says
"Try and get it open!" Devon says
Harry goes to open the door, only to find that it was locked.
"It's locked!" Harry says
"That's it. We're done for." Ron says
"Oh, move over!" Hermione says
Hermione steps forward, takes out her wand, and holds it up to the door.
"Alohomora." Hermione chants
The latch on the door glows with a brief, faint golden light and it lifts up. With the door unlocked, Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione step through, shut the door, and hide in the room.
"Alohomora?" Ron asks
"Standard book of spells, chapter 7." Hermione says
Out in the corridor, Mr. Filch walks in from the Grand Staircase, seeing his cat staring down the dark passageway.
"Anyone here, my sweet?" Mr. Filch says
The braziers light up more with their flames, illuminating the corridor more with their glow. Mr. Filch looks down the corridor, but saw nobody inside. He saw the door that the four friends were hiding behind, but didn't suspect anything. And so, he decides to leave and calls out to his cat.
"Come on." Mr. Filch says
Mr. Filch and Mrs. Norris leave and head back out into the Grand Staircase. Ron and Hermione both peeked through a small crack around the side of the door and saw them leave and they sighed with relief.
"Filch is gone." Hermione says
"Probably thinks this door was locked." Ron says
"It was locked." Hermione says
"And for good reason." Harry says
Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione look infront of them and they saw a large, three-headed dog sleeping. The monstrous creature filled the whole space between the ceiling and the floor and took up most of the room.
"Oh boy. That's one big dog." Devon says nervously
Soon, the three-headed dog began to awake having sensed the sudden presence of the Keyblade Wielder and the Wizarding Trio. The one head on the left sniffed the air, picking up their scent, the head in the center let out a yawn, and the third head on the right opened it's eyes and looked over at the four friends. The large dog stood up on it's feet and stared down at the Keyblade Wielder and the Wizarding Trio with all six eyes. Then, it uttered a thunderous growl as their faces quickly became angry having it's slumber disturbed. The three students, except Devon, screamed and they quickly run for the door. The three-headed dog barked loudly and charges at the four friends as they try to shut the door.
"No! No! No!" Devon says
"Push! Push!" Harry says
The Keyblade Wielder and Wizarding Trio struggled against the large dog's strength as it seemed intent on getting them. Pushing their own weight against the door, they soon managed to shut the door and lock it. The door rattled a bit and the growls from the three-headed dog sounded inside as the four friends quickly left the forbidden corridor.
After their frightening encounter, Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione return to the Gryffindor Common Room and walk through the room and up the stairs to the dormitories.
"What do they think they're doing, keeping a thing like that locked up in a school?" Ron asks
"You don't use your eyes, do you? Didn't you see what it was standing on?" Hermione asks
"I wasn't looking at it's feet! I was a bit preoccupied with it's heads. Or maybe you didn't notice. There were three!" Ron says
"It was standing on a trapdoor, which means it wasn't there by accident. It's guarding something." Hermione says
"Guarding something?" Harry asks
"That's right. Now, if you don't mind, I'm going to bed before either of you come up with another clever idea to get us killed. Or worse, expelled." Hermione says
"Alright. Good-night, Hermione." Devon says
Hermione opens the door to the girl's dormitories and closes it behind her.
"She needs to sort out her priorities." Ron says
"Maybe. C'mon. Let's get some rest." Devon says
Harry and Ron both nod in agreement and they head up to the boy's dormitories and call it a night.
As he followed Harry and Ron up the stairs, Devon couldn't help but wonder why the three-headed dog was in the third floor corridor. Like Hermione, he too noticed the trapdoor at it's feet, but none of them knew not what was beneath that door. Maybe it was guarding something like Hermione said. Could it be the mysterious package that Hagrid took from Gringotts Bank? Is that what the dog was guarding? Whatever it was, there was definitely a curious mystery surrounding it.
