It was early in the morning at Hogwarts and Devon and Harry follow Wood out into the Training Grounds as he teaches them the basics of Quidditch. Harry and Wood both carried a wooden case with one hand: Harry with his left, Wood with his right, while Devon followed them. Inside was the necessary equipment for playing the sport, such as the balls used in games. Wood also held a wooden bat in his left-hand.
"Quidditch is easy enough to understand. Each team has 7 players: 3 Chasers, 2 Beaters, 1 Keeper, and a Seeker." Wood says
They soon stop and set the case and bat down on the ground. Wood opens up the case to show the balls used in Quidditch.
"There are 3 kinds of balls." Wood says
Wood picks up a large, red scarlet leather ball and tosses it to Devon, who catches it. The ball was approximately the size of a football and had three indentations in it's sides.
"This one's called the Quaffle. Now, Devon, as a Chaser, your job is to handle the Quaffle..." Wood says
Wood turns around and points towards the Quidditch pitch further out in the school grounds. Besides the towers surrounding the pitch, there were three hoops of different heights that stood out. These were the goals for the Quaffle in order for the teams to score points.
"...and try to put it through one of those three hoops." Wood says
Wood turns back to the two boys.
"The Keeper, that's me, defends the hoops. You both with me so far?" Wood says
"I think so." Harry says
"Yep. Seems pretty straight-forward." Devon says
Devon and Harry look down and saw two other balls that were chained down to the case. These dark brown iron balls seemed to be bewitched, almost as if they had a mind of their own as they jumped around, making the case jump slightly.
"What about these two balls?" Devon asks gesturing to them with his right-hand
Wood picks up the wooden bat on the ground and hands it to Harry.
"You better take this." Wood says
Harry takes hold of the bat while Wood kneels down to the case. He releases one of the iron balls and it shoots up into the air. Then, it falls back down towards them.
"Careful now. It's coming back." Wood says
Harry pulls his right-arm back as the iron ball fell through the air. Soon, he swings the bat and sends the iron ball flying into the air. The ball flew up towards a statue and passed through a gap in the two crossed swords in it's hands like a goal.
"Not bad, Potter. You'd make a fair Beater." Wood says
The ball came flying back through the same gap down towards Wood.
"Uh-oh." Wood says
Wood catches the iron ball and was knocked to the ground. The ball jumped around in his grip while he struggled to keep it down on the ground. He crawls over to the case and chains it back down into place.
"What was that?" Harry asks
"Bludger. Nasty little buggers. But you... are a Seeker." Wood says
Wood goes back to the case, opens up a secret compartment which was a shield representing the four houses of Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. Inside this compartment was a small walnut-sized golden ball.
"The only thing I want you to worry about is this... The Golden Snitch." Wood says giving the ball to Harry
Harry holds the golden ball in his hand and he liked the shine it had in it's surface. Devon was also impressed by the design of the Golden Snitch.
"I like this ball." Harry says
"Yeah. Looks pretty neat." Devon says
"Ah, you like it now. But just wait. It's wicked fast and damn near impossible to see." Wood says
"What do I do with it?" Harry asks
"You catch it... before the other team's Seeker. You catch this, the game's over. You catch this, Potter, and we win." Wood says
Harry holds the ball flat in the palm of his right-hand and both he and Devon watch as the Golden Snitch comes to life as it's silver wings unfold and flutter like the wings of a hummingbird. The Golden Snitch flies up and darts around in the air with amazing quick speed. Devon and Harry were able to keep their eyes on the golden ball while Wood struggled to keep his eyes on it.
"Wow." Harry says
Devon and Harry continue their classes with Ron and Hermione as the days went by. They were now currently in class with Professor Flitwick, the Charms teacher in Classroom 2E, which was on the third floor.
The classroom had three rows of desks, all facing the teacher's table, behind which was a large upholstered chair with a high back, given to Professor Flitwick's small stature. Two blackboards flank the teacher's table, and behind them was a small shelf with books and other objects beneath a pair of windows.
Professor Flitwick stood on top of a large book on his desk so that he could be seen from the students as they all sat in their rows of desks. Devon and Harry sat with Seamus on the lowest row of tables on one side while Ron and Hermione sat not far from them in the same row. The topic of today's lesson was the Levitation Charm.
"One of the wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation... or the ability to make objects fly. Uh, do you all have your feathers?" Flitwick says
Devon and Hermione both held up their white feathers.
"Good. Now, uh, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm? The swish and flick. Everyone." Flitwick says
Professor Flitwick and the students practice the movement of their hands with their wands. Devon didn't have a wand, but he followed along with the class.
"Swish and flick." Everyone says
"Good. Oh, and enunciate, Wingardium Leviosa. Off you go, then." Flitwick says
And so, the class picked up their wands and waved them at their feathers to make them levitate. Over a minute passes none of the students were able to make their feathers float. Whether it was in the wand movement or improper pronunciation the words, nobody could cast the spell correctly.
"Wingardium Leviosar." Ron chants
Ron waved his wand annoyingly at the feather to get it to fly, but Hermione held out her right-hand and stopped him.
"No, stop, stop, stop. You're going to take someone's eye out. Besides, you're saying it wrong. It's Levi-osa, not Levio-sar." Hermione says
"You do it, then, if you're so clever. Go on. Go on." Ron says
Hermione takes her wand and moves it with a swish and flick at the feather infront of her.
"Wingardium Leviosa." Hermione chants
The feather slowly lifts up from the desk and rises higher and higher in the room. All the students watch silently as Hermione's feather floats into the air.
"Oh, well done! See here, everyone? Miss Granger's done it! Splendid! Well done, dear." Flitwick says
Hermione looks over at Ron and gives him a proud grin while he lays his head down on a stack of two books. Obviously, he was jealous of Hermione's superiority.
Devon smiles at the success of Hermione's spell. The moment was soon interrupted as Devon's Keyblade: Soul Calibur appears in a flash of blue light, hovering infront of him. All eyes in the room were quickly diverted towards Devon and his Keyblade. Sparkles and streaks of light swirl around Soul Calibur as it glows with it's benevolent light. The Keyblade soon changes it's shape and turns into a blue crystal wand.
Soul Calibur in it's wand form had a long, thin crystal rod, which was 15" in length. It's crystal orb was now a round gem placed at the bottom of the wand.
The crystal wand floats down to Devon and he catches it in his hand. Everyone was amazed by what they had just witnessed. Malfoy, in particular, was jealous.
"Amazing! Absolutely marvelous! What an astounding display of magic! The Keyblade changed into a wand! It's powers never cease to amaze!" Flitwick says
Devon stared at Soul Calibur, astounded by it's new form. He never knew that his Keyblade could change it's form. It's almost as if it wanted him to wield a wand like all the young witches and wizards in the room. He then puts on determined expression and looks down at the white feather infront of him. With a swish and a flick, Devon waves his crystal wand and casts the spell.
"Wingardium Leviosa." Devon chants
Responding to the Keyblade's magic, the feather floats up into the air with sparkles of light surrounding it. Everyone watches in stunned amazement. Professor Flitwick was the most astounded by the Keyblade's dazzling magic.
"Oh, bravo, Devon! Bravo!" Flitwick says clapping his hands
Seamus gave another shot at his feather and waves his wand at it.
"Wingard Leviosa." Seamus chants
Suddenly, a flash of light and a loud boom sounds off in the room, startling Professor Flitwick. The goblin-human nearly fell over, but he maintained his stance and balance. Just like before, Seamus' face was covered in burn marks from the accidental spell. A few students in the classroom laughed.
"I think we're gonna need another feather over here, Professor." Harry says
"Yeah. 'Cause this one is more than well done." Devon says
Seamus' feather was now black and burnt as it slowly falls onto the desk and turns to ash.
After they were done with Charms class, Devon, Harry, and Ron walked along the castle grounds with Seamus and another student, carrying books as they went on with their day.
"'It's Levi-osa, not Levio-sar.' She's a nightmare, honestly. No wonder she's hasn't got any friends." Ron says
Hermione, who was walking a few feet behind them was hurt by Ron's words. Fed up with his attitude, she pushes past him and walks away from them.
"I think she heard you." Harry says
The three boys stop and watch as Hermione walks off.
"Ron, it's one thing to be jealous of someone, it's another to go and hurt their feelings! How can you be so insensitive? Hermione was only trying to be nice and help you out." Devon says
Devon runs to catch up with Hermione to help her feel better while Harry and Ron stayed behind. He catches up with Hermione and walks alongside her as she continues walking.
"Hey, Hermione. Don't listen to Ron. He was only jealous." Devon says
"Devon, I really appreciate your kindness, but I'd like to be alone for a while, okay?" Hermione says
Devon stops and watches as Hermione continues off through the grounds. He could tell she was hurt and he respected her wish to be left alone.
"Okay." Devon says
It was Halloween night and everyone was enjoying themselves to a feast in the Great Hall. Dozens of pumpkins carved into jack-o'-lanterns floated in the air above the Great Hall. The enchanted ceiling was filled with dark clouds, lightning flashed with bright lights, and the sound of thunder boomed in the hall, such as it was outside the castle. On the tables were dozens of treats and sweets. Pumpkins filled with sweets, black cauldrons full of big lollipops, apples, carrot cake, water snakes, and goblets of colored sweets. Orange streamers decorated the hall and live bats fluttered in black clouds overhead. Halloween was one of the most highly anticipated events that Hogwarts students looked forward to every year.
Devon sat with Harry and Ron at Gryffindor table. He looked over to his right where Hermione would sit next to him, noticing that she hasn't joined them yet.
"Where's Hermione?" Devon asks
"Parvati Patil said that she wouldn't come out of the girls' bathroom. She said that she's been in there all afternoon crying." Neville says
Devon looks over at Ron across from him on the other side of the table with a stern look on his face as his eyes glance over to his left. The Weasley boy looks down, feeling ashamed. Suddenly, the doors to the Great Hall swing open and Professor Quirrell comes running in with a terrified expression and a terrible announcement.
"Troll! In the dungeon! Troll in the dungeon!" Quirrell exclaims in panic
Everyone stares at the professor like he had lost his mind. Dumbledore rises up from his seat as he looks over at Professor Quirrell.
"Thought you ought to know." Quirrell says
Professor Quirrell faints and falls to the floor. A loud rumble of thunder sounds through the air and at that moment all the students scream out in terror. Everyone except Devon. He just didn't understand. What was so scary about trolls? He had faced dozens of trolls during his past adventures in Middle-Earth. They were big and stupid, but not exactly intimidating. Although they were strong, they weren't exactly smart. The students began racing for the doors to the hall when Dumbledore's voice bellowed loudly.
"Silence!" Dumbledore says in a commanding voice
All the students immediately stop and look towards Professor Dumbledore.
"Everyone will please not panic. Now... prefects will lead their house back to the dormitories. The teachers will follow me to the dungeons." Dumbledore says
With that said, the prefects began leading groups of students out of the Great Hall. Unbeknownst to anyone, Professor Snape leaves the hall through a door in the back while no one was looking.
Now heading out of the Great Hall, Percy leads the Gryffindors through the hallway as they head back to the Gryffindor Common Room.
"Gryffindors, keep up, please. And stay alert." Percy says
"How did a troll get in?" Harry asks
"Not on it's own. Trolls are really stupid. Probably people playing jokes." Ron says
Devon and Harry followed the group when they stopped and realized something. Hermione wasn't with them, which meant she doesn't know about the troll escaping the dungeon.
"Oh no..." Devon says
Harry grabs Ron's right-arm, forcing him to stop.
"What?" Ron asks
"Hermione! She doesn't know." Harry says
"Neville said she was in the girls' bathroom. Let's go!" Devon says
Leaving the group, the Keyblade Wielder and two young wizards head back and go down another hallway and run to find Hermione and warn her before it's too late.
Devon, Harry, and Ron soon reach the hallway that led to the girls' bathroom when they stopped and noticed something up ahead. Loud footsteps could be heard and a large shadow appears on the wall, illuminated by the lightning.
"I think the troll's left the dungeon." Ron says
"Quick! Hide!" Devon says
The three boys hide in a doorway to their left and peer around the side. The troll comes into view and it walks across the hall ahead of them, dragging a large wooden club in it's right-hand along the floor.
"It's going into the girls' bathroom." Harry says
"Hermione!" Devon gasps
Inside the girls' bathroom, Hermione comes out of the stall after she was done crying. She dries her eyes from the tears and was about to head out when she stopped dead in her tracks. She saw large, flat, horny feet that had two toes. Glancing up, Hermione saw the twelve foot tall mountain troll standing infront of her and she got a good look at it.
The troll had dull, granite grey skin, a lumpy body like a boulder with a bald head perched ontop like a coconut and big ears. It had long arms and short legs that were thick as tree trunks.
The large creature let out a grunt as it stared down at Hermione. The young witch backed away while the troll growled and approached her, raising it's wooden club. Hermione hid from the troll in one of the stalls and shut the door. With it's incredible strength, the troll swings it's club and destroyed the stalls. Hermione screamed and dropped down to the floor just as the troll's club swung overhead. Broken pieces of wood fell ontop of her while she shielded herself with her arms.
Devon, Harry, and Ron burst into the room and arrived on the scene of the attack. Hermione moved some of the broken wood and saw the three boys as they enter while they saw her on the floor.
"Hermione, move!" Harry shouts
"Get out of there!" Devon shouts
Hermione began to crawl along the floor when the troll swung it's huge club again, destroying more of the stalls.
"Help! Help!" Hermione screams
Devon summons his Keyblade: Soul Calibur into his right-hand while Harry and Ron pick up some broken pieces of wood and throw them at the troll to draw it's attention away from Hermione.
"Hey, pea-brain!" Ron says
Ron throws a wooden piece, which hits the troll's head, though it hardly fazed it. Hermione crawls past the troll's feet and hides away in the corner underneath the white sinks along the wall. The troll notices Hermione under the sink and swings it's club down at her. Hermione screams as the club shatters a corner of the sink, missing her by inches.
"Help!" Hermione screams
The troll raises it's club over it's head and takes a swing. Devon jumps in and holds Soul Calibur with both hands high above his head, generating a blue barrier of light which shields him from the troll's attack. The club strikes the light barrier, but it bounces off harmlessly, hitting the troll in the head and making it stumble back a bit. This only angered the troll as it let out a growl.
"Stay down, Hermione!" Devon says
Devon moves up to the troll and strikes the troll's belly with a left and right slash, but his attacks hardly fazed the large creature. The troll swings it's club down at Devon, but he takes a small jump to the left, causing it to miss. The strength of the troll left a small hole in the floor. Devon counters the attack with a right slash at the troll's arm. The troll swings it's club at Devon, but he quickly ducks down and dodges it.
Harry takes out his wand and decides to move in and help Devon in dealing with the troll. He grabs hold of the club as the troll pulls it back and jumps onto it's back. The troll shakes around to throw the wizard boy off, but Harry managed to hold on to it's big ears and shoves his wand into the troll's nose in it's right nostril.
"Ew!" Ron says disgusted
Devon and Hermione also had disgusted looks on their faces when they saw this. The troll shakes around some more while Harry held on. Eventually, the troll grabs Harry's right-leg, pulls him off, and holds him upside down.
"Harry!" Devon exclaims
"Do something!" Harry says
The troll swings it's club at Harry, but he lifts his body up.
"What?" Ron asks shrugging his shoulders
"Anything!" Harry says
Harry lifts himself up again as the troll takes another swing at him. Devon was about to go help Harry when he remembered something. Looking over at Ron, he calls out to him with an idea.
"Ron! The Levitation Charm!" Devon exclaims
Ron nods his head and takes out his wand. Looking up, he points it at the troll, targeting it's wooden club.
"Hurry up!" Harry says
"Swish and flick!" Hermione says
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Ron chants
The club slides out of the troll's hand as it goes to attack Harry again, only to notice that it was no longer in it's hand. Confused, the large creature looks up to see the wooden club floating in the air above it. The club soon dropped onto the troll's head with a sickening crack.
"Cool." Ron says
The troll drops Harry to the floor and sways disoriented on the spot. Then, it turns toward Harry as it starts to fall forward. Harry quickly crawls backwards away from the troll as it falls unconscious, landing flat on the floor on it's face with a loud thud that made the whole room tremble.
Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione cautiously approach the troll as it laid on the floor. Devon kept his crystal Keyblade drawn in his hand just in case the troll would get back up. But sure enough, it was over.
"Is it... dead?" Hermione asks
"I don't think so. Just knocked out." Harry says
"If anything, it'll get a big bump on the head after that." Devon says
Harry bends down and extracted his wand from the troll's nose with it covered in troll bogeys, much to his disgust.
"Ugh. Troll bogies." Harry says disgusted
Using his robe, Harry cleans off his wand. At that moment, Professors McGonagall, Snape, and Quirrell enter the bathroom to witness the aftermath.
"Oh! Oh, my goodness!" McGonagall exclaims
Horrified by what she was seeing, McGonagall turns to the three boys.
"Explain yourselves!" McGonagall says
"Well, what it is-" Harry says
"What happened was-" Devon says
"It's my fault, Professor McGonagall." Hermione says
All eyes immediately turned towards Hermione as she said this.
"Miss Granger?" McGonagall says confused
"I went looking for the troll. I read about them and thought I could handle it. But I was wrong. If Devon, Harry, and Ron hadn't come and found me, I'd probably be dead." Hermione says
Devon and Harry looked over at Professor Snape and they noticed that he had a pretty bad cut on his right-leg. The potions master saw that they were staring at him and he quickly covered his wounded leg with his robe.
"Be that as it may, it was an extremely foolish thing to do. I would've expected more rational behavior on your part and I am very disappointed in you, Miss Granger. Five points will be taken from Gryffindor for your serious lack of judgement." McGonagall says
After scolding Hermione, Professor McGonagall turns her attention to Devon, Harry, and Ron.
"As for you three gentlemen, I hope you realize how fortunate you are. Not many first-year students can take on a fully-grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. Five points..." McGonagall says
The four expected Professor McGonagall to deduct more points from Gryffindor, but what she said next surprised them.
"...will be awarded to each of you." McGonagall says
Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione smile when they heard this.
"For sheer dumb luck." McGonagall says
Having said that, McGonagall takes her leave. Professor Snape was about to follow, but not before giving Quirrell a threatening stare. This was odd and a bit suspicious. Once Snape was gone, Quirrell turns to the four heroes.
"Perhaps you ought to go. M-might wake up." Quirrell says
"Right." Devon says
And so, Harry, Ron, and Hermione leave the bathroom. Devon was about to go with them, but looks back at Professor Quirrell.
"Uh, Professor? Do you think you might need some help with the troll?" Devon asks
"Oh, n-no. I-I can t-take it from h-here, D-Devon. You go on ahead." Quirrell says
"Okay." Devon says
Devon leaves the bathroom and goes to join his friends as they head up to the Gryffindor Common Room. As soon as he was gone, the troll lets out a loud growl, startling Professor Quirrell, but he chuckles nervously.
The next morning, Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione sat together for breakfast. Harry turned his food around on his plate with his fork. He was unable to eat due to his nerves, but his friends encouraged him.
"What's wrong, Harry? Nervous about today?" Devon asks
"Take a bit of toast, mate. Go on." Ron says
"Ron's right, Harry. You're gonna need your strength today." Hermione says
"I'm not hungry." Harry says
"Good luck today, Potter." A voice says
The four friends turn around and they look up to see Professor Snape standing behind them.
"Then again, now that you've proven yourself against a troll, a little game of Quidditch should be easy work for you... even if it is against Slytherin." Snape says
Having said that, Snape walks away, heading to the staff table in the hall. Devon and Harry notice the limping in his walk as he moves along the hall.
"That explains the blood." Harry says
"Blood?" Hermione asks looking at Harry
"Listen. Last night, I'm guessing Snape let the troll in as a diversion so he could try and get past that three-headed dog. But he got himself bitten. That's why he's limping." Harry says
"I noticed it too. Though I'm surprised a dog that big didn't rip off his leg." Devon says
"But why would anyone go near that dog?" Hermione asks
"The day that Devon and I were at Gringotts, Hagrid took something out of one of the vaults." Harry says
"That's right. He said it was Hogwarts business. Very secret." Devon says
"So you're saying..." Hermione says
"That's what the dog's guarding. That's what Snape wants." Harry says
"Seems plausible, but there's some problems with this theory, Harry. We still don't know what exactly it was that Hagrid took out of the vault that day. And there's another thing. Why? Why would Snape want to go through all the trouble just to get his hands on some mysterious package? I mean, he seems suspicious enough, but he's still a potions teacher. There would have to be some motive for him to want it." Devon says
Suddenly, an owl screech is heard in the air. Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione look up and saw Hedwig flying in with a large package in her talons. She flies over Gryffindor table and drops her package. Harry catches it in his hands and looks at it in confusion.
"Bit early for mail, isn't it?" Hermione asks
"But I-I never get mail." Harry says
"Let's open it." Ron says
The Wizarding Trio set the package down on the table and rip off the wrapping paper. The package was revealed to be a broomstick.
"It's a broomstick." Harry says
"That's not just any broomstick, Harry. It's a Nimbus 2000!" Ron says
"But who?" Harry says
The four heroes look over and saw Hedwig perched over at the staff table near Professor McGonagall. Then, another screeching cry is heard in the air. Everyone looks up and saw a majestic red phoenix fly into the Great Hall. This was Fawkes, Dumbledore's loyal companion. In his talons was a broomstick similar to Harry's. Fawkes flies over Gryffindor table and drops the broomstick. Devon catches it in his hands and looks upon it with a surprised expression.
"Huh. Guess I got some mail, too." Devon says
"Hey. Devon, you got one, too! The Nimbus 2000!" Ron says
Devon looked over the broom, taking in every detail. At the front of the broom, he saw it's name etched into the wood with golden writing.
"Neat!" Devon says
Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione look over and saw Fawkes perched at the staff table near Professor Dumbledore, who strokes the bird's feathers with his right-hand. The headmaster looks at Devon with a kind smile on his face. Devon smiles back. He could already tell that the broomsticks came from him.
That afternoon, preparations for the Quidditch game was made and the students and teachers of Hogwarts gathered at the pitch for the match between Gryffindor and Slytherin. Devon and Harry followed their teammates as they walked along the side of the pitch and into the side entrance. They wore red Quidditch uniforms consisting of red and gold robes, capes and jerseys, brown leather shin, knee and arm guards, and arm-length gloves. Each of them stood with their broomsticks in their hands ready for the game, but Harry was still a bit nervous. Devon and Wood noticed this and offered him comfort.
"Scared, Harry?" Wood asks
"A little." Harry says
"That's all right. I felt the same way before my first game." Wood says
"What happened?" Harry asks
"I, uh, I don't really remember. I took a Bludger to the head two minutes in. Woke up in the hospital a week later." Wood says
"Yikes. I imagine that must've given you quite a bump in the head." Devon says
Wood chuckles. The doors to the pitch soon raise open to the cheers of the spectators outside.
"Alright. Showtime." Devon says
Devon, Harry, and the rest of Gryffindor team mount their brooms and they fly out into the pitch.
The Hogwarts Quidditch pitch was a large, wide oval-shaped playing field that had a small circle in the center with a halfway line across it. The stands surrounding the pitch were decorated in the colors of Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. There were also several towers used as high vantage points for spectators to see the game in it's entirety. Hundreds of seats were in the stands around the pitch. The three goal posts were placed at each end of the pitch in sandy scoring areas, standing thirty feet high.
Up in one of the towers was Lee Jordan, a dark-skinned student of Gryffindor who acted as commentator for the game. With him was Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall, and other wizards and witches.
"Hello, and welcome to Hogwarts' first Quidditch game of the season. Today's game: Slytherin Vs. Gryffindor!" Lee announces
Devon and Harry flew together as they took in the sights of the pitch. The entire school was cheering for Gryffindor with the exception of Slytherin as they cheered for their own team. Both Quidditch teams fly in formation around the pitch and they gather in the center forming a circle. Gryffindor on one side, Slytherin on the other. The two boys took their positions in the circle with Harry up top as the team's Seeker and Devon down below him with the other players.
"The players take their positions as Madame Hooch steps out onto the field to begin the game!" Lee announces
Madame Hooch steps out to the center of the field and looks up at the players.
"Now I want a nice clean game... from all of you!" Hooch says
The flying instructor kicks the chest at her feet with her right-foot and it opens up, releasing the two Bludgers into the air along with the Golden Snitch.
"The Bludgers are up followed by the Golden Snitch. Remember, the Snitch is worth 150 points. The Seeker who catches the Snitch ends the game." Lee announces
The Golden Snitch flies around Devon for a bit, then flies up to Harry and Slytherin Seeker, Terence Higgs, whizzing around them before taking off into the pitch with it's incredibly fast speed. Madame Hooch picks up the Quaffle from the chest and holds it in her hands. Then, she throws it high up into the air with an underhand toss.
"The Quaffle is released..." Lee announces
The leather ball flies upward for a few seconds before it stalls and starts to come back down.
"...and the game begins!" Lee announces
The Chasers immediately scramble for the ball as it descends. Angelina was the first to gain possession of the ball and she quickly takes off as the Slytherin Chasers pursue her. Devon follows and watches from a distance.
Angelina flies up, right and left, dodging a Slytherin Beater, Chaser and Captain Marcus Flint, and Chaser Graham Montague as they come at her. Another Chaser, Adrian Pucey shoves into Angelina and they both zoom past one of the spectator towers, causing the spectators to exclaim surprisingly as they fly overhead. Heading for the Slytherin goalposts, Angelina ducks down as a Bludger comes flying at her, and performs a roll as a Pucey goes to take the Quaffle from her. Flint and Montague pursue her from behind, but were unable to catch up to her in time. Adrian throws the ball at the tallest goalpost. Slytherin Keeper, Miley Bletchley tries to catch the ball, but he misses the ball as it flies overhead and through the hoop. A bell ring sounds off in the air, indicating a point score. Angelina and fellow Chaser Alicia Spinnet fly past and high five each other.
"Angelina Johnson scores! 10 points for Gryffindor!" Lee announces
Lee adds on the points to Gryffindor's team with the score now 10 - 0.
"Yes!" Harry says
Hagrid was in the stands with Ron, Hermione, and the other Gryffindors as they cheered on their team.
"Well done!" Hagrid cheers
"Slytherin takes possession of the Quaffle. Bletchley passes to Captain Marcus Flint." Lee announces
Flint flies on across the field with the Quaffle in his right-arm. Devon decides to make his move and goes after Flint. He tries to take the ball from him, but Flint shifts to the right, evading him. Alicia comes up to Flint from behind, but he kicks her away with his right-foot, causing her to spin away on her broom. Closing in on Gryffindor's side, Flint shifts to the right, evading Angelina, ducks down in dodging a Bludger, then throws the ball, but it was blocked by Wood as he flies up and sends the Quaffle away with his broom. Devon catches the Quaffle and flies through the air with Angelina following him and Pucey and Montague in pursuit.
Devon and Angelina toss the ball back and forth to each other as they fly around and past the towers in the stands. Devon catches the ball on the fourth toss and he heads towards the goalpost. He loops around the scoring area, makes a sharp turn back around with a spin, and throws the ball towards the tallest hoop. Pucey flies up to catch the ball, but she was too late as the ball flies past her hands and through the goalpost, adding more points for Gryffindor.
"Alright!" Devon cheers thrusting his right-arm up
"Yes!" Harry cheers
"Another 10 points to Gryffindor!" Lee announces
Now, the score for the game was 20 - 0 with Gryffindor's team in the lead. Those in Gryffindor cheered loudly for their team.
Slytherin was back in possession of the Quaffle and Flint heads for the Gryffindor goalposts. He ducks down dodging a Bludger, then knocks away Alicia with his left-arm. Once he was within range, he throws the ball, only to have it caught by Wood, who tosses it over to Angelina.
"Give me that!" Flint says
Flint grabs the bat from the male Beater next to him and strikes a Bludger coming at him, sending it towards the Gryffindor Keeper. Wood is struck in the head by the Bludger and was knocked unconscious. He falls backwards on his broom through the hoop and descends to the ground. He then falls off his broom only a few feet in the air and lands face forward in the sand of the scoring area.
"Wood!" Devon exclaims
Most of the crowd boos upon seeing this while those in Slytherin laughed. Graham manages to steal the Quaffle back from Angelina and they head back for Gryffindor's goalposts. Flint throws the ball with backhand throw and scores 10 points for Slytherin. Now, the score was 20 - 10. Slytherin was catching up.
Gryffindor takes control of the Quaffle with Angelina heading towards Slytherin's side. Seeing this, Flint looks over at Montague and gives him a command.
"Take that side." Flint commands pointing to the left
Both Flint and Montague close in on Angelina and they box her in. She tries to shove away the two Slytherins, but was unable to get free. Flint and Montague force her towards a spectator tower and send her crashing into it. Angelina shields herself with her arms, bracing for impact. She flies into the tower and disappears underneath the covering. Appearing as a lump in the tower's side, Angelina descends down it's tall length and falls out from below unconscious. Two of Gryffindor's players were out of commission. Seizing control of the Quaffle, Flint flies over to Gryffindor's goalpost, tosses up the ball, and bats it into the tallest hoop with the back of his broom. Alicia tries to catch the ball, but misses it by inches as it flies past her hands and through the goal. Slytherin cheered as the scoreboard changed to 20 - 20 while Gryffindor groaned.
Gryffindor and Slytherin were now tied. But with Wood unconscious, the game would quickly shift over to Slytherin's side. Devon and Harry was in shock by the current state of the game. They needed to win fast. And the answer came flying in from behind Harry as the Golden Snitch flew past him and hovered in place infront of him for a few seconds before darting off into the pitch. Targeting the Snitch, Harry chased after the golden ball as it flew away with it's incredibly fast speed.
Suddenly, Harry's broomstick started moving uncontrollably, zig-zagging wildly through the air, trying to buck him off. Trying not to fall off, Harry grabbed hold of his broom with his hands and knees. Everyone in the stands looked up in shock as Harry was getting thrown around in the air.
"What's going on with Harry's broomstick?" Hagrid asks
Hermione watches Harry through a pair of binoculars. She was shocked by odd behavior of his broom. Then, she saw something that caused her to shift her gaze down. Across from them on the other side of the stands, Hermione saw Professor Snape sitting in one of the spectator towers. His gaze seemed to be set on Harry as he maintained eye contact on him and it looked like he was silently muttering some sort of incantation with his mouth. Thus, she concluded that he was trying hurt Harry or possibly kill him.
"It's Snape! He's jinxing the broom!" Hermione says
"Jinxing the broom? What do we do?" Ron asks
"Leave it to me." Hermione says
Hermione gives Ron the binoculars and leaves to go stop Snape.
Devon was chasing after Flint as he had possession of the Quaffle when he saw Harry's broom going out of control.
"Harry!" Devon exclaims
The Keyblade Wielder glances back at Flint as he continues on towards the Gryffindor goalposts. He knew that saving his friend was more important than some Quidditch game so he turns around and flies over to Harry to help him. Harry held on to his broom as it continued to throw him around. The broom soon gave a strong jerk and it flips Harry off, leaving him dangling from his hands. Devon reaches Harry and tries to pull him on his broom, but was unable to do so as Harry's broom made strong swinging motions to make him lose his grip.
Ron, Hagrid, and the other Gryffindors felt helpless as they could only watch with worried expressions as Harry held onto his broom for dear life.
"Come on, Hermione!" Ron says
Hermione made her way across the stands towards the tower where Snape was. It took her a couple of minutes, but she soon reached Snape as she was directly underneath his seat. Hermione takes out her wand and points it at Snape's black cloak, casting a spell.
"Lacarnum Inflamarae." Hermione whispers quietly
A tiny fireball shoots out of Hermione's wand and it ignites the Potion Master's cloak. The fire started small at first, but it quickly grew more and more in size. Hermione quickly leaves as the fire grows. After a few seconds, one of the wizards sitting next to Snape notices the burning fire and quickly gets up.
"Fire! You're on fire!" The wizard exclaims
Snape looks down and saw that his cloak was indeed on fire. He jumps to his feet and stomps down on the fire with his left-foot to put it out, knocking over Professor Quirrell in the process, who also sitting on the tower behind him. Harry's broom stops moving once this happened. Snape manages to put out the fire on his cloak and directs his attention back to the game.
Regaining control of his broom, Harry clambers back on and lets out a sigh of relief.
"Harry? You alright?" Devon asks
"Yeah. Thanks." Harry says
"We gotta finish this game fast. You go after the Snitch!" Devon says
Harry nods and flies off. He catches up with Slytherin Seeker Terence Higgs, who was already in pursuit of the Golden Snitch and flies alongside him on his left. Higgs shoves into Harry to force him away, but he shoves back. The two boys shove into each other four times before the Snitch flies downwards. Harry and Higgs follow close to the flying ball and they go into a descending dive. The ground quickly approached as they continued flying down after the Snitch. Higgs pulls off early while Harry stayed right on the Snitch. He pulls up on his broom as the small ball changes it's flight path and flies only inches above the ground. Harry stands up on his broom, riding it like a surfboard and reaches out for the Snitch with his right-hand. He reached further and further until he fall forward off his broom. Harry crashes and rolls onto the ground. He soon stands back up, clasping his stomach with both hands as though he was violently sick.
The game froze to a standstill as all eyes turned towards Harry. Hermione comes out from the stands. Devon flew down low over the field and hovered as he looked towards Harry. And Hagrid watches Harry through his binoculars. Everyone was confused as to what happened.
"Looks like he's gonna be sick." Hagrid says
"Harry?" Devon says
Harry opens his mouth and spits out the Golden Snitch that was lodged in his throat. He holds the small ball in his hands as it unfolds it's wings and flaps them like a bird.
"He's got the Snitch! Harry Potter receives 150 points for catching the Snitch." Lee announces
Madame Hooch flies out into the pitch on her broom and blows her whistle with a loud fweet, announcing the game was finally over.
"Gryffindor wins." Hooch says
The entire pitch cheered loudly for Gryffindor's victory while Slytherin on the other hand groaned for their team's defeat.
"Yes!" Hagrid cheers
"Whoo-hoo!" Hermione cheers clapping her hands
Harry smiles and raises up the Golden Snitch in his right-hand. Devon lands down to the ground, runs over to Harry, and pats him on his left-shoulder with a smile on his face. They share happy glances and chuckled with each other, then turn to the crowd as they cheered for Gryffindor. Devon held up his broomstick in his left-hand while Harry held up the Golden Snitch in his right-hand.
"Go, go, Gryffindor! Go, go, Gryffindor! Go, go, Gryffindor! Go, go, Gryffindor!" The crowd cheers
This was the first time that Gryffindor ever won a game against Slytherin and it was thanks to Devon and Harry that they were able to achieve this victory. Devon now knew why Quidditch was a very popular sport in the Wizarding World and he was very happy to be able to play it with his friend, Harry Potter.
After the game, Devon, Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid walked through the school grounds together. Despite their victory, they were troubled by what they had seen during the match. Snape cursing Harry's broomstick? It just didn't make any sense. Not to Hagrid at least.
"Nonsense. Why would Snape put a curse on Harry's broom?" Hagrid asks
"Who knows? Why was he trying to get past that three-headed dog on Halloween?" Harry asks
"Who told you about Fluffy?" Hagrid asks
"Fluffy?" Ron asks
"That thing has a name?" Hermione asks
"Well, of course he's got a name. He's mine." Hagrid says
"Uh, Hagrid, where exactly did you get a dog like that?" Devon asks
"I bought him off an Irish feller I met down at the pub last year. Then I lent him to Dumbledore to guard the..." Hagrid says
"Yes?" Harry says
"Guard what?" Devon asks
"Shouldn't have said that. No more questions. Don't ask anymore questions. That's top secret, that is." Hagrid says
"But, Hagrid, whatever Fluffy's guarding, Snape's trying to steal it." Harry says
Hagrid stops walking and turns to face the Keyblade Wielder and the Wizarding Trio.
"Codswallop. Professor Snape is a Hogwarts teacher." Hagrid says
"Hogwarts teacher or not, I know a spell when I see one. I've read all about them. You've got to keep eye contact, and Snape wasn't blinking." Hermione says
"Exactly." Harry says
Hagrid lets out a sigh.
"Now you listen to me, all four of you. You're meddling in things that ought not to be meddled in. It's dangerous. What that dog is guarding is strictly between Professor Dumbledore and Nicholas Flamel." Hagrid says
"Nicholas Flamel?" Harry asks
"Who?" Devon asks
"I shouldn't have said that. I should not have said that." Hagrid says
"Who's Nicholas Flamel?" Devon asks
"Don't know." Hermione says
"If he's someone who's involved with Dumbledore, he must be someone very important. I feel like we should look into this. There's more going on here than we originally thought." Devon says
Devon, Harry, Ron, and Hermione watched as Hagrid went on towards his hut on the grounds. They felt that Nicholas Flamel was somehow linked to the mysterious package that Fluffy was guarding. And if there was anything they could learn about him, perhaps there might also be some answers as to the item in question.
Author's Note: Devon and his friends continue their days in Hogwarts, learning of Quidditch, Charms, and more magic. And surprise! Devon's Keyblade has a secret transformation: Soul Wand! There was a lot to think on about this one. But I felt if Devon would be learning spells at Hogwarts, why not let him cast spells like one? And so, Soul Calibur transforms into a crystal wand, giving us a first look at one of it's different forms, more of which will be revealed later on. Anyways, Devon and his friends face off against a mountain troll, though I fail to see why a troll is so scary. Then, comes the Gryffindor Vs. Slytherin match where Devon and Harry get their first-hand experience at the popular sport of Quidditch. And now it's time to delve into the mystery of Nicholas Flamel and the mysterious package in the third-floor corridor. Let me know what you guys think. No flames please. Hope you guys like and don't forget to review!
