(Kingdom of Pharaohs)
Egypt, a land full of history and legend. Home to ancient temples, shrines, and monumental constructs of mankind like the great pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. Where the morning and evening star shine upon the land. It's scorching deserts vast and expansive, stretching as far as the eye could see. The Nile River flowing with cool, crystal clear water where the Egyptian people travel on their boats and fishermen gather fish with their nets. The year was 1290 B.C. An Egyptian city known as Thebes thrived with peace and prosperity. It's people lived in harmony as they went about their lives tending to crops, building sculptures and monuments. The ruler of Thebes was Pharaoh Seti I.
"Thebes, City of the Living. Crown Jewel of Pharaoh Seti I."
The pharaoh rode through the city on a chariot of horses while his guards bowed in respect for their great leader.
As the evening sets in, a man stood out on the balcony of an Egyptian palace glancing out over the city courtyard as the sun sets while down below soldiers patrol the area. This was the pharaoh's advisor and counsel, the High Priest of Osiris, Imhotep.
Imhotep was a tall, muscular, male man who had a bald head and brown eyes. He wore long dark robes embroidered with silvery images of scarabs, and wore a dark tunic at his waist to match. Imhotep wore two leather wrist bands, a gold ring and a necklace.
"Home of Imhotep, Pharaoh's High Priest, Keeper of the Dead."
Inside the palace, a beautiful Egyptian woman walks nude and barefoot through the halls of her residence, passing ornate statuary. This woman was Anck-Su-Namun.
Anck-Su-Namun had long glossy black hair, an olive complexion, brown eyes, and a slim, voluptuous physique. She was Seti's mistress. As stated, she was nude and barefoot, but fortunately she had several coats of gold paint and tattoos covering her entire body from head to toe. This was also to ensure that she stayed within her pharaoh's rule and that no other man would dare touch her. She also wore beaded jewelry in her hair, gold lip gloss, a golden necklace around her neck, golden hawk-shaped bracelets on her upper arms, and a thin, dark brown loincloth that covered the front and back her private areas.
"Birth place of Anck-Su-Namun, pharaoh's mistress. No other man was allowed to touch her."
Anck-Su-Namun walks into a room where bald olive-colored priests stood idle. She walks past them and heads onto the balcony of her bedroom concealed by curtains. Once she was gone, the priests walked over to close the doors to the room. Anck-Su-Namun soon meets up with her secret lover, Imhotep.
"But for their love, they were willing to risk life itself."
Imhotep and Anck-Su-Namun embrace each other in their arms and kiss each other passionately. While they were kissing, Imhotep's hands roam over Anck-Su-Namun's perfect body, smudging her tattoo on her left-shoulder with his right-thumb.
Just as the priests were about to close the doors, the doors suddenly burst open as Seti angrily strides into the room, arriving at Anck-Su-Namun's residence. The priests back away and bow before their pharaoh.
"Yaratah ickaiya? (What are you doing here?)" Seti I says in Ancient Egyptian
The pharaoh then directs his attention toward the balcony behind the curtains. He walks over and throws them open. Anck-Su-Namun stood next to a golden cat statue giving him a calm smile. The pharaoh soon notices her body paint had been smeared and is infuriated.
"Yahd damaetaten?! (Who has touched you?!)" Seti I exclaims angrily in Ancient Egyptian pointing his finger at her smeared body paint
Anck-Su-Namun looks over at the smudge on her shoulder, but doesn't pay it any mind. The pharaoh turns around and saw Imhotep standing behind him. The high priest pulls out Seti's sword from it's scabbard right from under him.
"Imhotep?! Iesem?! (Imhotep?! My priest!)" Seti I gasps in Ancient Egyptian
Behind him, Anck-Su-Namun takes out a dagger and plunges it into Seti's back. The pharaoh screams in pain. Imhotep motions the sword back and swings at the pharaoh, hacking into his body. On the other side of the curtains, the priests had the doors shut and bolted tight. Through the curtains, they saw the shadows of Anck-Su-Namun and Imhotep stab and hack away at Seti as they kill him. Suddenly, the doors are rammed on the other side by the Medjai, the pharaoh's bodyguards, as they must've heard their leader's dying screams. Imhotep and Anck-Su-Namun look up in alarm as they heard the guards trying to force their way inside.
"Bhaka Medjai! (Pharaoh's bodyguards!)" Imhotep exclaims in Ancient Egyptian
The priests move away from the door in fear.
"Eibinyo hanae. Eiminyo ohtou. (You must go! Save yourself!)" Anck-Su-Namun says in Ancient Egyptian
"Damaeh. (No.)" Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian
"Diyadna dritaya mitso hawaei. (Only you can resurrect me!)" Anck-Su-Namun says in Ancient Egyptian
Imhotep and Anck-Su-Namun share desperate looks toward each other. The door to the room soon burst open and several men walk into the room with blue-tinted skin and strange puzzle-tattoos over their bodies. They were all armed to the teeth with swords and spears. The priests run up and grab Imhotep and try and pull him away to safety.
"Kunmekya homad! Iyakome hakameish! (I will not leave you! Get away from me!" Imhotep yells in Ancient Egyptian
Imhotep tries to break free, but Anck-Su-Namun places her hand on the side of his face. Imhotep's face fills with despair.
"Anck-Su-Namun!" Imhotep exclaims
The priests hustle Imhotep out of the balcony.
"Benap sah sinowei! Yuutawa einkha! (You shall live again! I will resurrect you!)" Imhotep exclaims in Ancient Egyptian
The Medjai rip through the curtains and face Anck-Su-Namun as she turns toward them.
"Benpi ai kahwei eit hawnt! (My body is no longer his temple!)" Anck-Su-Namun says in Ancient Egyptian
Feigning her treachery, Anck-Su-Namun takes her dagger and plunges it into her stomach committing suicide. Outside, Imhotep's looks on in shock as he saw his lover's shadow on the wall driving her dagger into her body. He glances away and shuts his eyes in pain.
Some nights later, Imhotep and his priests ride across the moonlit Sahara desert on horse-drawn chariots with and Anck-Su-Namun's corpse, having taken it from her crypt, heading for a remote area in the Sahara. It was an ancient necropolis that had served for centuries as a resting place for the pharaohs of Egypt and their immense wealth, precious artifacts and antiquities. It's name: Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead.
"To resurrect Anck-Su-Namun, Imhotep and his priests broke into her crypt and stole her body. They raced across the desert taking Anck-Su-Namun's corpse to Hamunaptra, City of the Dead, Ancient burial site for the sons of Pharaohs, and resting place of the wealth of Egypt."
The moon was full as it shone brightly over the city as Imhotep and his priests arrive at Hamunaptra, heading up a stone ramp and passing through the city gates.
Inside the city, they proceed down some stairs into a large, scary underground chamber with Imhotep leading the way. In his hands was a heavy black tome made from pure obsidian with golden hinges, which contained ancient spells and incantations that could resurrect the dead as well as perform other rituals. It was this tool which the High Priest would use to bring his lover back to life. Imhotep and his priests cross a detritus moat, which surrounds the chamber, made out of filthy water and human remains with skulls bobbing in the water, and made their way to the middle of the chamber to begin the ritual.
"For his love, Imhotep dared the god's anger by going deep into the city where he took the black Book of the Dead from it's holy resting place."
The priests have gathered in a circle kneeling on the ground rocking back and forth as they chant. In the middle of the circle is a strange, twisted flat stone altar. Anck-Su-Namun's body was placed on the altar with five sacred canopic jars around her. Imhotep stood infront of his lover's body, holding the black Book of the Dead.
Each of these jars had gold filigree, each contained a specific organ of Anck-Su-Namun, and each jar had golden lids shaped in the heads of Egypt's protective deities: the four sons of Horus. One was a jackal-headed jar, Duamatef, which held the stomach. Another was a baboon-headed jar, Hapi, that held the lungs. The third was a human-headed jar, Imsety, which guarded the liver. And the fourth was a hawk-headed jar, Qebhseneuf, that held the small and large intestines.
"Anck-Su-Namun's soul had been sent to the dark underworld. Her vital organs removed and placed in five sacred canopic jars."
Normally, a human sacrifice was needed for this ritual. But since Anck-Su-Namun's organs were still fresh, there would be no need for that. As Imhotep begins to read from the Book of The Dead, a strange human-shaped mist wafts up out of the detritus bog and over to the stone altar. As the ritual proceeded, unholy wails echoed within the chamber. The mist passes over Imhotep and the priests and enters Anck-Su-Namun's body. The Egyptian woman suddenly opened her eyes and inhaled deeply.
"Anck-Su-Namun's soul had come back from the dead."
All that was left to complete the ritual was to return Anck-Su-Namun's organs back into their rightful place within her body. Imhotep lifts a ceremonial gold dagger and was about to plunge it down on her lover, but the Medjai grabbed his arm and stormed the chamber surrounding Imhotep and his priests.
"But the pharaoh's bodyguards had followed Imhotep and stopped him before the ritual could be completed."
Anck-Su-Namun's soul exits back out of her body and implodes back into the moat screaming and wailing.
"Nai! (No!)" Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian
Inside a torch-lit chamber, the Medjai began the grizzly process of mummification on the priests while they were alive. They all wore Anubis-shaped head gear. In Egypt, to commit an act of bringing one back from death was blasphemy of the worst caliber and now Imhotep and his priests were about to pay the ultimate price of their betrayal to their kingdom.
"Imhotep's priests were condemned to be mummified alive."
The horrid-looking embalmers used knives, needles and thread calmly performing their ghastly surgery on the priests as they screamed. In one corner of the chamber, a red hot poker is pulled out of a pit of burning coals to be used while a priest's head was wedged between two strong boards. The priest's eyes widen in fear as an embalmer moves to insert the poker into his nose. In another corner, an embalmer slices open a priest's body with a knife and began stripping out his internal organs while he screamed. The painful agonizing screams of the priests filled the entire chamber. All twenty-one of Imhotep's priests squirmed inside their wrappings.
"As for Imhotep, he was condemned to endure the Hom-Dai, the worst of all ancient curses. One so horrible, it had never before been bestowed."
The worst punishment was reserved specifically for Imhotep, the one who had led them all into sin. Imhotep was held down by some Anubis-headed embalmers, being forced onto his knees. His arms are held back and his mouth was pried open. Using a pair of tongs, an embalmer slowly pulls Imhotep's tongue out from his mouth while another places a very sharp knife on top of it. Imhotep's eyes widen in fear and he watches as his tongue was cut off, letting out a terrified scream.
He was then bound tight in wrappings while he breathed heavily and moaned. Once he was fully wrapped, he placed into wooden coffin inside a stone sarcophagus. An Anubis-headed embalmer walked up to the sarcophagus with a black cauldron full of flesh-eating scarab beetles and dumps them inside. The scarabs fell onto Imhotep's wrapped body and completely covered him. The former high priest screamed, but his voice was muffled underneath his wrappings. As the scarabs slowly and painfully eat Imhotep alive, the lid of the coffin was placed over sealing the villain inside with the bugs.
"He was to remained sealed inside his sarcophagus, be undead for all eternity."
The sarcophagus was sealed off, locked tight with a small octagonal device fashioned from metal in the shape of an eight-sided star, resembling a key-puzzle box. The key is placed into a slot on the sarcophagus and is turned counter-clockwise. Ancient gears within the sarcophagus shift and turn as the key is turned. Another heavy sarcophagus lid was placed over and was locked tight also using the same key and turning it in the same direction.
"The Medjai would never allow him to be released for he would arise a walking disease. A plague upon mankind. An unholy flesh eater with the strength of ages, power over the sands, and the glory of invincibility."
Finally, Imhotep was buried inside a hole before the huge statue of Anubis, the jackal-headed god of death, as the Medjai shoveled sand into a hole over his sarcophagus. Little did the Medjai know that an even more powerful being was watching them from atop a stone pillar in the shadows of the night with his dark cloak blowing in the desert wind. It was Lord Thanatos, the evil Dark Keyblade Master and the Dark Lord's right-hand. His eyes glowed red and he had a sinister look on his face as he had found a great ally for their quest to conquer the Universe. When the time was right, he would be there to welcome Imhotep into the Dark Order.
(3,000 years later)
The year was now 1923 A.D., many years after the pharaohs of Egypt and the ancient kingdom had fallen. In the ruins of Hamunaptra, a garrison of the French Foreign Legion that have found the ruins set up their post within the crumbling walls, preparing for an attack against a great army of Tuareg warriors.
"For 3,000 years, men and armies fought over this land, never knowing what evil lay beneath it."
Not far from the site, a group of Medjai led by Ardeth Bay stand vigil over Hamunaptra, witnessing the attack.
Ardeth Bay was a Medjai chieftain and warrior that led the Medjai. He wore long black robes with a gray sash, as the other Medjai warriors did, as well as a black headdress that he often wore when with other warriors, a pair of bandoliers and belt. On occasion, a long dark cloak brocaded with silvery images. Ardeth had a short moustache and beard, accompanied by long black hair and had his face painted with tattoos of ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics and Arabic letters.
"And for 3,000 years, we the Medjai, the descendants of pharaoh's sacred bodyguards kept watch."
Back at the ruins, a man named Rick O'Connell, an American serving as corporal in the Legion, had been promoted once the leader of the garrison, Colonel Guizot, deserts the ruins on horseback, leaving his men on their own.
Rick O'Connell was a tall American adventurer who had brown parted hair and blue/green eyes. He wore a white long-sleeved shirt and tan chinos, along with brown boots, belt and holsters. He was a man of action that believed in shoot first and ask questions later.
Alongside O'Connell was another legionnaire named Beni Gabor.
Unlike O'Connell, Beni was a small, thin Hungarian in his mid-thirties. A man of superstition and an opportunist. He was motivated by greed and self-preservation as well as extreme cowardice. He had a pallid complexion, a small thin moustache, unkempt stubble, unclean teeth, sunken eyes, a stringy build and a short stature.
The two of them watched as the former colonel abandoned them. They then looked toward each other.
"You just got promoted." Beni says
The two of them then directed their attention back toward the Tuareg warriors, aiming their rifles as the opposing army rode toward the site on horse-back.
"Steady! You with me on this one, right?" O'Connell says
"Oh. Your strength gives me strength." Beni says
"Steady!" O'Connell commands
Being a cowardly man that he was, Beni soon panics, cuts, and makes a run for it. He got up on his feet, threw his rifle to the ground and runs away.
"Wait! Wait for me!" Beni screams
O'Connell saw this and just shook his head. He then glances back toward the Tuareg army and takes aim.
"Steady!" O'Connell commands
The Tuareg warriors were soon only a few meters away within firing range. Once they were in range, O'Connell gives out the order.
"Fire!" O'Connell shouts
Upon his command, O'Connell and the Legionnaires on the ground fire their rifles. Dozens of Tuaregs were shot clean off their horses. Kneeling Legionnaires fire their rifles and more Tuaregs bite the sand. Eventually, the Tuaregs manage to land their own shots at the Legionnaires as they fight back, taking out a third of the defending force.
Soon, the Tuaregs plow into the ruins and through the Legionnaires, taking down scores of men using both rifles and swords.
A Tuareg comes riding towards O'Connell on his horse ululating, but he guns him down with a shot of his rifle. Another Tuareg, who had fallen off his horse, draws his sword and charges at O'Connell with a war-like cry. O'Connell takes his rifle and clubs a Tuareg in the head, knocking him down. Knowing now that he and the Legionnaires were outnumbered at this point, O'Connell throws his rifle down, cross-draws two pistols in each hand and starts shooting Tuaregs off their mounts left and right. Eventually, the clips in his guns go empty. He cross-draws two more pistols behind him and shoots down more Tuaregs infront of him before they, too, go empty. At that point, he turns and runs into the ruined city.
While Beni was running away, he spots an open temple doorway amongst the rocks. Beni turns and saw O'Connell jumping over a stone column running toward him.
"Run, Beni! Run! Get inside! Get inside!" O'Connell shouts
Beni heads inside and starts pushing a heavy sandstone door, not bothering to wait for his friend.
"Hey! Don't you close that door! Don't you close that door!" O'Connell yells running toward the door
Beni closes the door shut just as O'Connell slams his back into it. He turns and saw several Tuareg men jump over the stone column heading toward him. O'Connell bolts and runs off around the rocks running for his life. He weaves his way through the ruins until he jumps down from a fallen column, losing his pistol in the process. He tries to run back and grab it, but several gunshots hit the ground near his pistol, forcing him to pull his hand back.
Now with no weapon to defend him, he continues running for his life heading through the ruins. O'Connell soon stops infront of the statue of Anubis and faces the Tuaregs as they come around the corner and raise their rifles to finish him off. He closes his eyes ready to accept his fate. Suddenly, the horses let out loud whinnies as they became scared. Even the riders were scared. They soon began running for their lives themselves. Two riders were thrown off their horses and fall to the ground, but they quickly got up and chased after their mounts. After a moment of silence, O'Connell opens his eyes and saw that the Tuaregs were gone. He looks on with a confused expression. Why would they flee? Unless... something had scared them.
As he stands there confused, O'Connell soon felt an evil presence behind him. He turned and looked up at the shattered, decrepit statue of Anubis as it stared at him. He stands there, stunned as he stares back at the statue, hearing whispering voices in the air.
"You will die. You will die."
Suddenly, the sand begins to shift under O'Connell's feet. He starts to back away, keeping his eyes on the transforming sand. It was as if huge snakes were wiggling and writhing beneath it, forming lines and shapes, drawing a picture. O'Connell quickly turns and runs off through the ruins. The sand stops moving, and in the sand is a picture of Imhotep's screaming face. As soon as O'Connell was gone, Lord Thanatos wearing a dark hooded cloak walked up to the screaming face. His eyes glow red in the darkness of his hood and he smiles a sinister smile and chuckles in a deep, dark, demonic tone.
Up on a ridge not far from the ruins, Ardeth and the Medjai watch as the Legionnaries and Tuaregs flee from Hamunaptra.
"Yabqaa almakhluq ghyr muktashafin. (The Creature remains undiscovered.)" Ardeth says in Arabic
"Wamadha ean hdah? (And what of this one?)" A Medjai asks in Arabic
O'Connell stumble away from the decrepit city, but he feels a presence behind him. He turns around, looked up, and saw Ardeth and the Medjai watching him. He saw that they were different from the Tuaregs, but he shrugs it off and staggers off into the open desert.
"Hal naqtuluh? (Should we kill him?)" The same Medjai asks in Arabic
"La. Alsahra' satuqtaluh. (No. The desert will kill him.)" Ardeth says in Arabic
(Three years later)
Now in the present time, Devon arrives in Egypt and walks through the city streets of Cairo. After leaving Nome, Alaska, his clothes had changed back to it's regular form.
"Where am I now?" Devon asks
The young teen takes a look around his surroundings, noting the sandstone buildings that were built around him. The ground beneath him was mostly sand and the hot climate was enough to make him sweat slightly. He had went from freezing cold world to one that was scorching hot. It reminded him of his visit to the desert planet of Tatooine in Distant Galaxy.
Walking further into the streets, Devon soon found himself standing in a bazaar, which had shops of different varieties with merchants and peddlers. One shop sold clothes made from silk and cotton. Another had spices ranging from rosemary to cinnamon and oregano. Varieties of fruit, vegetables, and home cooked meals could be seen and smelt from everywhere. And few shops had displays of Arabian and Egyptian jewelry and trinkets ranging from bronze, silver, and gold. Exotic aromas struck the young teen. Eucalyptus and ginger wafting from a nearby spice stall. The sweet smell of incense. The delicious smell of cooked meat from Kebabs at a food stall. It was a trader's paradise.
Looking around at the native townspeople, Devon saw that they were vibrantly dressed with robes, sandals, headscarves, and desert clothing. Devon navigated through the streets and listened as the Cairo residents spoke in their foreign language, mostly in Arabic. He looked over at his left and saw two men dragging camels on rope leashes as they walk past him, then he glanced over to the right and saw snake charmer sitting cross-legged on the ground, playing his pungi flute, which made an Egyptian cobra rise up from a basket infront of him, hypnotized by the flute's music. This made Devon stop for a moment to watch the street performance as it caught his interest. The snake appeared to be in a trance from the music as it danced, swaying it's body from left to right.
"Well, this world certaintly has it's charm." Devon says
After watching the snake dance for a minute, Devon decided it was time to move on and he walked further down the street. Eventually, he comes into a wide plaza, which housed a tall obelisk with a large statue of Sekhmet, the goddess of healing, standing infront of it. Behind that was a large building where two statues of Atum, the god of creation, stand at it's doors. The Keyblade Wielder approaches the building and saw a sign above it's doors. The sign read: Cairo Museum of Antiquities in both English and Egyptian Arabic. Curious to see what sort of exhibits were inside, Devon opens the doors and enters the building.
Inside the museum, there was a library where rows of towering bookshelves stood in a circle around the room. A young aspiring Egyptologist named Evelyn Carnahan was at the top of a tall ladder between two of these rows and leaning against one of the bookshelves organizing the library and sorting out the books.
Evelyn was a lovely young, attractive British woman with brown hair and hazel eyes. As a librarian, her hair was tied in a bun, she wore a pair of eye-glasses, and a boring dress. She had a special interest in Egypt and its history, namely its artifacts. Her common nickname was Evy.
"Sacred Stones. Sculpture Anesthetics. Socrates. Seth Volume One, Volume Two. And Volume Three. And..." Evy says
As she sorted the books in her hand, Evy noticed one that didn't belong with the others.
"T-Tuthmosis? What are you doing here?" Evy says
Evy looks over her shoulder to the bookshelf behind her where all the titles begin with the letter 'T'.
"T, T, T, T, T... T!" Evy says
Evy gently sets the other books down on the shelf infront of her then turns and gingerly starts to reach across the aisle with the book.
"I'm going to put you back where you belong." Evy says
It was a little far from her reach, so Evy stretches, holding the top of the ladder with her fingertips.
Suddenly, the ladder pulls away from the shelf, making Evy yelp. She flings the Tuthmosis book and grabs the top of the ladder, which stands straight up. Evy holds her breath swaying precariously.
"Help." Evy says quietly
The ladder teeters and Evy starts stilt walking down the aisle. Eventually, the ladder unexpectedly does a 180 degree turn to the right and crashes into the bookshelf. Evy screams and slides down the ladder, dropping to the floor while the bookshelves crash into each other in a domino effect. Thousands of volumes fling off shelves and scatter across the floor. The last shelf finally crashes onto the floor with a loud thud. Evy takes off her glasses and looks around at the mess.
"Oops." Evy says
The Egyptian curator of the museum, Dr. Terence Bey storms into the room and looks around. Upon seeing the mess, he was flabbergasted. His eyes soon turns toward Evy and his expression becomes infuriated.
"Oh, look at this! Sons of the pharaohs! Give me frogs! Flies, locusts! Anything but you. Compared to you, the other plagues were a joy!" Dr. Terence yells storming over to her
"I'm so very sorry. It was an accident." Evy says
"My darling girl, when Ramses destroyed Syria, that was an accident. You are a catastrophe!" Dr. Terence says
The curator gestures to the mess with his right-hand.
"Look at my library! Why do I put up with you?" Dr. Terence exclaims
"Well-well, you put up with me because, um, because I can-I can read and write in ancient Egyptian. And I can-I can decipher hieroglyphics and hieratic. And, w-well, I am the only person within a thousand miles who knows how to properly code and catalogue this library, that's why!" Evy says
"I put up with you because your mother and father were our finest patrons. That's why! Allah rest their souls. Now, I don't care how you do it. I don't care how long it takes. Straighten up this meshiver!" Dr. Terence says
Having said that, Dr. Terence storms out of the library. Around that time, Devon arrives in the library and passes Dr. Terence as he heads out. Immediately, he notices the mess and he looks on with a stunned expression.
"Wow. What happened in here?" Devon says surprised
Evy saw the young teen enter the room and she kindly greets him.
"Oh, hello. Are you here visiting the museum?" Evy greets
Devon looks over at Evy upon hearing her voice and he walks over to her, weaving his way over the collapsed bookshelves and the books on the floor.
"Yes. I suppose I am." Devon says
"You seem like a nice young man. Would you care to tell me your name?" Evy asks
Devon smiles and introduces himself to Evy.
"I'm Devon."
Evy smiles and nods her head, introducing herself to the Keyblade Wielder.
"It's very nice to meet you, Devon. My name is Evelyn. Evelyn Carnahan. But you can just call me Evy."
Evy extends her right-hand out to Devon and the two shake hands. The librarian looks Devon over and she could tell from his clothes and his voice that he was not native to Egypt. In fact, she was curious to know where he came from. It was possible that he was an American tourist.
"You're not from around here, are you?" Evy asks
"What makes you say that?" Devon asks
"Well, your clothes are certaintly different from the local natives. And the accent in your voice is also different from them." Evy says
Devon stares at Evy impressed by her examination of him. He could tell that she was someone who was very intelligent.
"True. You got that right. But I don't even know where 'here' is?" Devon says
Evy stares at Devon with a surprised expression. He didn't know what country he was in? It was strange for a teenager of his age to not know that he was in a foreign country. Let alone one that was on the other side of the planet. But being the kind, informative woman she was, Evy told Devon of where he was.
"Oh, well, you're in Egypt in the city of Cairo." Evy says
"Egypt, huh? That explains the snake charmer and the shops." Devon says
"Is this your first time visiting Cairo?" Evy asks
Devon shrugs his shoulders.
"You could say that. I'm somewhat of an adventurer. Doing a bit of exploring here and there." Devon says
"You're an awfully long way from home. Don't you have any family? A mother? Father?" Evy asks
Devon remains silent and he looks away with a solemn expression.
"They..." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder sighs.
"They were both murdered. Back when I was very young. So I'm pretty much an orphan." Devon says
Evy gasps in shock, covering her mouth. She felt sad for the young teen.
"Oh, Devon. I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have asked." Evy says
"It's alright, Evy. Don't blame yourself. You didn't know." Devon says
Suddenly, Devon and Evy hear a noise coming from a nearby gallery.
"Did you hear that?" Devon asks
"I most certaintly did." Evy says
The young teen and librarian move quietly and cautiously to the nearby gallery. They enter the gallery of Ramses, which was filled with treasures and plunder from the Middle Kingdom. There was slabs of hieroglyphics in one corner of the room, Egyptian pottery in another corner, and a few displays of sarcophaguses here and there. The room was very dark and quiet. The only light source for the room was the flickering torches at the entrance and ends of the gallery. Devon and Evy both grab a torch and look around, passing several coffins.
"Abdul? Mohammed? Bob?" Evy says
They soon heard a thud coming from an open sarcophagus. Devon and Evy slowly lean forward with their torch and peer inside. Suddenly, a hideous rotted mummy sits up and screeches at them. Evy screams and backs away, scared out of her wits. Devon backed away and jumped slightly with fright. And then, coming from inside the sarcophagus, they heard a man laughing. It was Evy's older brother, Jonathan Carnahan.
Jonathan was a tall, thin English man with blue eyes and brown hair. Unlike his sister, he had an eye for treasure and wealth. He wore typical English men clothing.
Evy rolls her eyes, annoyed by her brother's behavior.
"Have you no respect for the dead?" Evy says as she and Devon set the torches down on nearby stands
Jonathan sits up in the sarcophagi with the mummy alongside him.
"Of course I do, but sometimes, I rather like to join them." Jonathan says setting the mummy's right-arm on the side of the coffin
"Well, I wish you'd do it sooner rather than later, before you ruin my career the way you've ruined yours. Now, get out." Evy says
"My dear, sweet baby sister, I'll have you know, that at this moment, my career is on a high note." Jonathan says climbing out of the sarcophagus
"High note? Ha! Oh, please, Jonathan. I'm not in the mood for you now. I've just made a mess in the library and the Bembridge Scholars rejected my application forum again. They say I don't have enough experience in the field." Evy says as she sits down at the feet of a statue behind her
Jonathan walks over to her sister and kneels down to her level.
"You'll always have me, old mum." Jonathan says with a smile
Evy looks up at her brother with a smile forming on her face. Jonathan soon notices Devon standing nearby on his left.
"So, care to tell me who this charming young fellow is?" Jonathan says
Devon steps forward and nods his head, introducing himself.
"Oh, I'm Devon. As far as I can see, I'm guessing you two are related."
Jonathan smiles and shakes Devon's right-hand.
"Pleasure, good chap. Oh, Evy. I have just the thing to cheer you up." Jonathan says
Jonathan turns around and goes back to the sarcophagus he was in and rummages through it in search of something.
"Oh, no, Jonathan. Not another worthless trinket. If I bring one more piece of junk to the Curator to try and..." Evy says
Jonathan pulls out a small, ancient box and holds it infront of Evy, presenting it to her in his right-palm. It turned out to be the collapsed key to Imhotep's sarcophagus and coffin. Yet, it was unknown to them.
"...sell for you." Evy says
Evy becomes instantly curious and takes the box out of his hand. Devon was also curious to see the mysterious item.
"Where did you get this?" Evy asks as she examines the box, rolling it around in her hands
"On a dig down in Thebes. My whole life I've never found anything. Evy, tell me I've found something." Jonathan says
Evy plays with the various little slats on the box with her fingers, shifting it left and right like a puzzle box. Then, it unfolds almost mechanically, turning itself into a key. Sitting inside the open key/box is a folded piece of golden papyrus. An ancient map.
"Jonathan." Evy says
"Yes?" Jonathan says
"I think you found something." Evy says
Devon, Evy and Jonathan were now in the curator's office. Dr. Terence sits at his desk, staring through a jeweler's eye piece at the map. Evy hovers behind him, excited about the discovery.
"You see the cartouche there? It's the official royal seal of Seti I. I'm sure of it." Evy says
"Perhaps." Dr. Terence says
"Two questions. Who the hell was Seti I? And was he rich?" Jonathan asks
"He was the second pharaoh of the 19th dynasty within the Old Kingdom, said to be the wealthiest pharaoh of them all." Evy says
"Good, that's good. I like this fellow. I like him very much." Jonathan says smiling
"I've already dated the map. It's almost three thousand years old. And if you look at the hieratic just here. Well... It's Hamunaptra." Evy says
Dr. Terence looks up at Evy with a dismissive, skeptical expression.
"Dear God, don't be ridiculous. We're scholars, not treasure hunters. Hamunaptra is a myth told by ancient Arab storytellers to amuse Greek and Roman tourists." Dr. Terence says
"Yes. Yes. I know all the silly blather about the city being protected by the curse of a mummy nonsense and all that, but my research has led me to believe that the city itself may have actually existed." Evy says
"Are we talking about the Hamunaptra?" Jonathan asks raising his right-eyebrow
"Yes. The City of The Dead. Where the earliest pharaohs were said to have hidden the wealth of Egypt." Evy says
"Yes, yes, in a big underground treasure chamber." Jonathan says
"Heh!" Dr. Terence scoffs
"Oh, come on. Everybody knows the story. The entire necropolis was rigged into sink into the sand. On pharaoh's command, a flick of the switch! And the whole place could disappear beneath the sand dunes, taking the treasure with it." Jonathan says
"Any idea if it's still out there now?" Devon asks
"I'm not sure. It's been said that the city mysteriously vanished around 2134 B.C. It would certaintly be a great discovery." Evy says
Dr. Terence holds the map closer to a burning candle.
"As the Americans would say: it's all fairy tales and hokum..." Dr. Terence says
Suddenly, the map catches fire.
"Oh my goodness!" Dr. Terence exclaims
The curator throws the map to the floor in alarm. Evy and Jonathan drops to their knees and quickly puts out the fire with their hands. Jonathan lifts the map up in his hands and discovers that the left third of the map is now missing, burnt off by the flames.
"You burned it! You burned off the part with the lost city!" Jonathan exclaims
"It's for the best, I'm sure. Many men have wasted their lives in the foolish pursuit of Hamunaptra. No one has ever found it. Most have never returned." Dr. Terence says
Evy looks down at the map, then puts on a determined expression. She was not quick to defeat as her brother. What she had found was a major discovery. And map or not she was willing to venture out and find the lost city and bring her discovery into the light. She just had to find another way of discerning it's location. The key-puzzle had to have come from somewhere.
Later that day, Devon, Evy, and Jonathan soon found themselves at Cairo Prison where low-life scumbags were sent. They met up with the warden of the prison, Gad Hassan, who was a first rate scumbag himself.
Gad Hassan was a greedy Egyptian man who had poor hygienic standards, having body odor, a much unshaven stubble beard, green teeth, and excess body fat. He wore the clothes typical for a man of his position when in Cairo Prison: a jacket patched with one or two badges and a green turban to match, and when not in the prison. Gad wore a battered tan jacket and dark grey pinstriped trousers, a striped shirt and green striped necktie. A grey scarf was also part of this ensemble, as were a pair of old shoes, dirty grey puttees, a waist-sash and a dark red fez. Hassan normally wore two rings on his fingers, one that had a large green stone and the other being simple and gold.
"Come, come. Step over the threshold. Welcome to Cairo Prison, my humble home." Gad says
The warden escorts the trio across the gallows courtyard as prisoners and guards move around them, working in human wheels, doing laundry, or just lining them up in rows.
"You told me you found it on a dig down in Thebes!" Evy says
"Well, I was mistaken." Jonathan says
"You lied to me!" Evy says
"I lie to everybody. What makes you so special?" Jonathan says
"I'm your sister." Evy says
"That just makes you more gullible." Jonathan says
"Jonathan, you stole it from a drunk at the local casbah?!" Evy says
"Picked his pocket, actually, so I don't think it's a very good..." Jonathan says trying to turn her sister around
"Stop being so ridiculous." Evy says
Evy continues walking and Gad Hassan ushers them up to a holding pen.
"Now, what exactly is this man in prison for?" Evy asks
"This I did not know. When I heard you were coming, I asked him that myself." Gad says
"And what did he say?" Devon asks
"He said he was just looking for a good time." Gad says
The interior cell door burst open and four guards drag out O'Connell, who was now in chains. They shove him up to the cell bars and whacks him in the back with a hard metal club, causing him to flinch in pain. He looked very different than he did before. He now had long hair, a scraggly beard and many new bruises.
"This is the man that you stole it from?" Evy asks gesturing to O'Connell with her handbag
"Uh, yes actually. So, let's just go sniff out a spot of tiffin and..." Jonathan says turning to walk away
O'Connell looks over his visitors, starting with Jonathan first.
"Who are you?" O'Connell asks
He then looks at Devon.
"Who's the kid?" O'Connell asks
O'Connell finally turns his attention toward Evy.
"And who's the broad?" O'Connell asks
"Broad?!" Evy says
"Oh, I'm just a local sort of missionary chap, spreading the good word around and all." Jonathan says
Jonathan gestures to Evy on his right.
"But this is my sister, Evy." Jonathan says
O'Connell looks over Evy.
"Yeah? Well, I'm guess she's not a total loss." O'Connell says
Evy became stunned and furious upon hearing the man's comment.
"I beg your pardon?" Evy says
Soon, there is a disturbance in the prison, which catches Gad's attention. He speaks in Arabic to the guards.
"I'll be back in a moment." Gad says walking away
As the warden leaves, Devon, Evy, and Jonathan look at O'Connell. Jonathan leans closer to his sisters and whispers to her.
"Ask him about the box." Jonathan whispers
"Hello? Excuse me. We uh,... found... your puzzle box and we've come to ask you about it." Evy says
O'Connell looks up at Evy for a moment and simply replied...
"No." O'Connell says
"No?" Evy says confused
"No. You came to ask me about Hamunaptra." O'Connell says
Devon, Evy and Jonathan quickly look around, hoping the guards didn't hear him, then they step closer to O'Connell.
"How do you know that the box pertains to Hamunaptra?" Evy asks
"Because that's where I was when I found it. I was there." O'Connell says
Evy stares at O'Connell with a dumbstruck expression while Jonathan had a suspicious look on his face, leaning closer to the bars.
"How do we know that's not a load of pig swallow?" Jonathan asks
"Hey, do I know you?" O'Connell asks slightly turning his head to the left pointing at Jonathan with his right-hand
"No. I -I just got one of those faces." Jonathan says
O'Connell's right-fist comes flying through the bars, and hits Jonathan square in the jaw, knocking him to the ground. Devon jumps slightly to the right as Jonathan gets decked. A guard clubs O'Connell in the back of his head. He shows no pain, but gives the guard another nasty look. Evy and Devon looks down at her brother, then back at O'Connell.
"So, you were actually at Hamunaptra?" Devon asks
O'Connell nearly smiles. He liked the kid's spark.
"Yeah, I was there." O'Connell says
"You swear?" Evy asks
O'Connell looks over at Evy and smiles slightly. He liked her spark, too.
"Every damn day." O'Connell says
"No. That's not what I meant." Evy says
"I know what you meant. I was there. Seti's place. City Of The Dead." O'Connell says
Evy quickly leans closer to O'Connell.
"Could-could you tell us how to get there?" Evy asks
The warden's voice is heard as he shouts to the guards, causing Evy and Devon to look back for a second before they glance back at O'Connell. Evy takes her hat and holds it up to the left-side of her face like she was trying to keep their conversation in secret.
"I mean... the exact location?" Evy asks almost in a whisper
"You wanna know?" O'Connell asks
Evy leans in closer.
"Well, yes." Evy says
"Do you really want to know?" O'Connell asks
"Yes." Evy says
Evy leans even closer until her face right up to the bars, feeling nervous and excited. Once she got close enough, O'Connell grabs her face and kisses her full on the lips, much to her surprise.
"Then get me the hell out of here!" O'Connell says
The guards club O'Connell, making his face bounces off the bars again, but before he can react the Guards grab him and yanks him away from the bars.
"Do it, lady!" O'Connell says
The guards then drag O'Connell away and back in through the door inside the cell just as the warden rejoins them.
"Where are they taking him?" Devon asks
"To be hanged. Apparently, he had a very good time." Gad says
Devon, Evy and Gad Hassan was now in the gallows courtyard with hundreds of filthy prisoners. They all sat in wooden chairs in the warden's balcony, staring down at the gallows as a guard forces O'Connell onto the wooden platform where the hangman awaited him. Down below were other prisoners waiting to be hanged. As soon as he's brought up, the hangman's noose is draped over O'Connell's head and cinched tight around his neck. Evy sat next to the warden on his right while Devon sat next to her on her right.
"If he gets hang, we can kiss our discovery good-bye." Devon mutters
"I will give you £100 to save this man's life." Evy says
"Madam, I would pay £100 just to see him hanged." Gad says
"Two! £200!" Evy says
"Proceed!" Gad says
"£300!" Evy says
The hangman tightens the rope around O'Connell's neck.
"Any last requests, pig?" The hangman asks
"Yeah. Loosen the knot and let me go." O'Connell says
The hangman looks toward Gad and speaks to him in Arabic, relaying what O'Connell just said.
"Of course we don't let him go." Gad says
Gad says something in Arabic and the hangman slaps O'Connell in the back of his head.
"£500!" Evy says
Gad turns his attention toward Evy.
"And what else? I'm a very lonely man." Gad says
Gad sets his greasy, lecherous hand on Evy's leg and she slaps his hand away with her bag. The crowd of prisoners laugh at this. Gad angrily glances back down at the courtyard and speaks in Arabic, gesturing to the hangman with his right-hand, giving the order to hang O'Connell.
"No!" Evy exclaims
The hangman pulls the lever and the trap door drops down. O'Connell falls through the and the rope jerks tightly. O'Connell's body snaps at the end of the rope, but luckily he was still alive. Devon and Evy stare with stunned expressions. Their mouths almost hung open.
"Ha ha! His neck did not break!" Gad laughs
The prisoners shout and scream in anger.
"Oh, I'm so sorry. Now, we must watch him strangle to death." Gad says
O'Connell struggles at the end of the rope, choking and gagging. Evy was horrified. Even Devon himself was stunned, but was surprised that O'Connell luckily survived the fall. Evy turns to the warden, leans forward and whispers in his ear.
"He knows the location to Hamunaptra." Evy whispers
Gad turns and faces her with a surprised expression.
"You lie." Gad says
"I would never." Evy says
"Are you telling me that this filthy godless son of a pig knows where to find the Lost City Of The Dead?" Gad asks gesturing his right-hand to O'Connell
"Yes." Evy says
"Truly?" Gad asks
Devon leans forward and looks over at the warden.
"Yep. He told us so himself. He's been there before." Devon says
"And if you cut him down, we will give you... ten percent." Evy says
"Fifty percent." Gad says
"Twenty." Evy says
"Forty." Gad says
"Thirty." Evy says
"Twenty-five!" Gad says
"Ah! Deal." Evy says
As much as he wanted to see O'Connell hang, the warden couldn't pass up an opportunity to get rich.
"Ah! Cut him down!" Gad says
The hangman takes a scimitar and cuts the rope. O'Connell drops to the ground and rolls over, freed from his noose. All the prisoners burst into cheers. Devon and Evy stand up from their seats and look down at O'Connell. Evy smiles broadly as she gazes down at the man. Their adventure in The Kingdom of Pharaohs had only just begun.
Author's Note: And there you have it. Devon enters the story of The Mummy. So here, we learn of the legend of Imhotep and Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead. Devon meets Evelyn Carnahan or Evy and her brother Jonathan. Later on, he meets adventurer Rick O'Connell. Having discovered the puzzle box and having saved Rick O'Connell's life, Devon begins his archeological adventure in Egypt traveling with Evy, Jonathan and O'Connell to Hamunaptra, the City of the Dead. I tried to find translations for Ancient Egyptian for some of the dialogue, but I haven't had any luck. Regardless, I'll try and put the language into words as best as I can. For Arabic, I might be able to translate some of it into English with Google Translate! Hope you guys are Mummy fans. Let me know what you guys think. No flames please. Hope you guys like and don't forget to review!
