Roy was currently doing paperwork with Chiko watching him on the desk. Chiko was curious about him flipping papers and wanted a way to entertain himself whenever his owner was working, he wanted to work to but he didn't want to be a bother. As Roy read a document, he rubbed his eyes very tired when he heard papers shuffling. He looked down and saw Chiko on the edge of the paper going to turn it but crumbled, Roy panicked and said. "Hey be careful! Those are important documents and you might tear them."
Roy soothed the paper down as Chiko watched, Roy looked at Chiko and saw that his eyes were watering. He panicked and said panicked. "Hey it's okay I'm not mad! Please don't cry!" Roy picked up Chiko and rubbed his thumbs on Chiko hoping to calm him down. "Are you getting bored of watching me work?" Chiko gave a little nod with a squeak, Roy smiled at that giving a breath in relief and said. "I know It's boring here and I wish I could make it more entertaining for you while I do paperwork but I promised Hawkeye that'd I do my work so I could keep you here. Can you hold out for little longer?" Chiko nods and Roy smiles at that, he puts Chiko back on the desk and continues doing his work.
While he works, he thinks about a way for Chiko to be entertained while he does his work. 'There's got to be a way for Chiko to be entertained while I do my work, I don't want him to bored while I work and it seems that he's fascinated with turning pages. Whenever I read or do work he's always watching as I turn pages, maybes there's a tiny book in one of the children stores but They might not have anything on them and I don't even know if Chiko can read or not. Wait a minute, that's it.' As Roy finish's his work, he grabs paper, scissors, crayons and a stapler.
He looks at Chiko, who is confused, and smiles at him saying. "I'm just gonna make a couple but I'll make you more when we go home." Chiko looks at him and cocks his head to the side with a confused squeak. After a couple of minutes the door opens to reveal Hawkeye coming and asking. "Sir are those documents read and signed?" Her eyes widened a little at the sight and blushed.
On the desk was Roy looking like a deer caught in a headlight drawing on a little book and Chiko holding a book with a heart drawn on it. Roy smiled and laughs nervously. "Hey Lieutenant, how're you?" "I'm good sir, are those documents signed yet?" Roy grabs them as Hawkeye came up to him and he hands them to her. "Yes. They've sighed and read, Chiko accidentally wrinkled the edge of one of them." "As long as it's readable it's fine. Doing a little project?" "Yep. I've realized that Chiko gets bored while I do work and so I thought that I'll make him a little picture book. I'm gonna make him more when we go home." "Of course sir but you might need to make allot for tomorrow."
Roy grimaced and asked. "Let me guess, I'm gonna have a mountain of paperwork aren't i?" "Try mountain's sir, it's all hands on deck for this one." Roy groans and says. "Thank you Lieutenant, I'll try to make Chiko plenty of books for tomorrow." "Your welcome sir." Hawkeye leaves and closes the door. Roy gives a sigh as Chiko looks at him, he give him a smile and says. "Guess I'm gonna make allot of picture books Huh." Chiko gives a smile and a squeak, Roy smiles back and continues drawing the little book. Now Chiko had two little books to keep him entertained, one had a heart on the front with a blue outline inside was a picture of an apple, a carrot, seeds, a bowl of rice and an orange. The other book had a heart with a green outline inside was a picture of a dog, a cat, a bird, a lizard and a bunny.
They were things and animals that Chiko liked, the other books would have something similar to that. Roy had a feeling that Chiko might get tired but knew all the shouting would keep him awake, so Roy got a little box and made a little bedroom for Chiko. It a had a little bed made from cotton and the blanket was made from Roy handkerchief, there was a little book shelf for all the books and a plastic teddy bear that Roy got from the toy store. Roy watched as Chiko looked at the little space with joy.
Chiko was clearly enjoying himself in his room for the office, so Roy made more books for Chiko then made dinner for them. Roy had rice and pork while Chiko had rice and peas. After they were done with dinner, they took a bath the water helped Roy's bruises allot. Monroe found a new way to hurt him, he'd elbow him hard and kick him under the table. After the bath, they got out and went to bed. Chiko slept on top of Roy's head while he slept, getting ready for a tiring day tomorrow.
Roy walked the halls of central command to his office with Chikos box in hand, as he opened the door he saw that nobody was there except a bunch of paperwork. He went to his office and saw just as much of paperwork there along with a note. He grabbed the note and read it. 'Going to get more paperwork be back later. Better gets started. Hawkeye.' Roy sighed at that and got Chiko's little home ready. He placed the box in his drawer and closes it, leaving it open ever so slightly for air and light. Roy got started on his paperwork, hoping this day wouldn't get any worse.
After some hours, everyone started running around like Chickens, Roy was now writing with two hands hoping to get this done and during this Roy got a bunch of paper cuts. Hawkeye went to get bandaids while Roy wrote while trying not to bleed on the papers, Hawkeye came back with a box of bandaids and gave them to Roy. He bandaged his hands and wrote normal again, well with two hands that is. It was now 12:00, meaning it was lunch time but then Monroe said. "Oh! Colonel I forgot to tell you. The Führer is coming here at five for an inspection today."
Everyone freeze and look at him with a shadow over their eyes, Monroe gets nervous about this and they started talking like this.
Havoc: So your telling me,
Breda: That Führer Bradley,
Falman: The Führer Bradley,
Fury: Is coming here for an inspection,
Hawkeye: In over five hours,
Mustang: While the office is like this?
Monroe got really scared and nodded while saying. "Y-yes?" The four men got into his face and said in unison. "If the Führer is coming here for an inspection today then you should've told one of us and not wait until the last minute." Monroe squeaked at this and nodded, Roy looked at them and started barking orders. "Havoc, take the papers on the right on the counter to investigations!" "On it!" "Breda, take the papers on the left on the counter to internals!" "Yes sir!" "Falman, take the papers on the right on the other counter to the library!" "Yes sir colonel Mustang!" "Fury, the papers on the left on the other counter take to communications when I've signed them!" "Yes sir!" "Monroe, the papers on my desk take to the armory when I'm done signing them!" "On it!" "This is all hands on deck for this one, meaning no one eats until we're done! Got it!?!" "Sir yes sir!"
Roy starts signing papers and everyone starts running around. This is gonna be a long day.
Edward and Alphonse walk through central command to see the colonel about his report. As they walked Ed started talking. "I can't believe that stone was a dead end." "It's okay brother, I'm sure the colonel has a new lead for us." "Maybe, tomorrows my day off and we can spend that time doing research on the stone. We'll have to get a hotel when I'm done giving my report." "Didn't the colonel say that we could stay with him when we're in town? We could stay with him." "I know but since the colonel has Chiko with him it's better to ask him. You since Chiko is shy and all." "Good point and we'd have to gain Chikos trust first before anything else." "Right, after I give my report we'll ask him."
As they get close to the door, it suddenly slams open and Havoc runs out while carrying allot of papers running down the halls. Ed and Al look at him surprised and go inside to see everyone running around with a bunch of papers in hand, Hawkeye greets them. "Hey Ed, al. Your report is gonna have to wait, Monroe forgot to mention that the Führer is coming for an inspection today so we're a bit busy at the moment."
Ed and Al look at Monroe who is organizing papers and thought. 'That's what you get for trying to ruin the colonel.' Ed looks at Hawkeye and says. "I'll just drop off my work and go." "Okay." Ed and Al go into Roy's office to see him writing with two hands and bandaids on his hands. He notices them and says. "Ah Fullmetal! That report is gonna have to wait because as you can see I'm busy." "I can see that. I'll just drop it off and come back later." "Okay."
Al then notices something off. "Hey where's Chiko?" "I made him a little home in my desk so he wouldn't get bored and get caught in this." "Aww, that's so sweet sir." "Thank you Al." "Is there anything we can help with colonel? I'm still on duty so I can help around here." Roy looks at him and smiles. "Yes Ed, we could use your help. Thank you, I appreciate it." "No problem." "We'd be happy to help colonel." Roy told them what to do and told Edward that no one's allowed to eat until all the paperwork is finished, which Ed agreed. This was a punishment for Monroe, if the office is overrun with paperwork and someone heard of an inspection then never keep it to yourself or otherwise you'll get punished.
It was now 3:30 and everyone collapsed in Roy's office Very tired. Roy was face down on his desk with Chiko on his head snuggling him while everyone was in the couch's talking, well more like complaining.
Havoc: I haven't had a smoke in hours, I'm gonna go outside when I get the strength to move.
Breda: I'm so hungry my stomach is eating itself.
Falman: My head hurts from all the doors I slammed into.
Fury: My hands are covered in paper cuts when I dropped those papers.
Edward: Is it always like this in the office? I'm so glad I don't have a desk job.
Monroe: My feet hurt from all the running.
Mustang: My hands and wrist are cramped from writing.
Breda looked at Roy pleading. "Uh colonel?" "What Breda?" "Can we eat now?" "Is there still paper work to be done?" "No sir." "Then yes you can eat." Everyone cheered when the door slammed opened to reveal Hawkeye and Alphonse with plates of water and sandwiches. "It's a good thing you said that Colonel because these would've gone to waste." All of them got on their knees, went to Al and Hawkeyes ankles thanking them for feeding them except for Roy, Ed and Falman.
Hawkeye and Al placed the plates down as greedy hands grabbed them. Hawkeye gave Roy a sandwich and a bowl of nuts. "They we're out of rice so i hope Chiko likes nuts." "He does, thank you Hawkeye." "Your welcome sir." Everyone started eating and Monroe noticed Al not eating. "Aren't you gonna eat Al?" "Oh uh! I'm not hungry I already ate." "You sure?" "Yeah." "Okay al, but don't hesitate to have any." "Thanks." Roy and Ed didn't miss the venom in Al's voice. It was surprising because Al's normally gentle and polite, it wasn't weird because he doesn't like anyone who hurts his friends especially if it involves Ed.
It was time for the inspection and everyone was getting ready. Roy had told Chiko to hide in his little room while the Führer was here and if he saw anyone that he didn't know was to just stay really still. Chiko gave a little salute that caused Roy to blush really hard with steam coming out of his head because of how cute it was.
After awhile the Führer came and the inspection started. "Hello colonel Mustang." "Good afternoon Führer, how've you been?" "I'm good, just tired from all these inspections I've been doing." "Well hopefully this is your last one sir." "As do I Mustang. So are things going good around here?" "Yes sir, they have. Why? Have you heard something?" "Nothing just a rumor I've heard. So Fullmetal how has your missions been going?" "They've been good sir." "That's good to hear and has Colonel Mustang been treating you well?" "Yes sir he has." "That's good to hear."
The Führer went around Roy's desk and sees a drawer slightly open with something sticking out. "What's this?" He opens the drawer and takes out the box as everyone jumps. Roy starts panicking internally. 'Crap, Crap, Crap! Did I forget to shut it?!? He's gonna find Chiko and make me get rid of him!' "What a cute little playhouse you have Colonel. Where'd you get it?" "Uh, I made it sir! It's for Brigadier General Maes Hughes's daughter Elicia. I'm babysitting her tomorrow so I decided to make her something nice. I even made the stuffed animal." "That's sweet colonel. Welp looks like my work here is done. Have a Good day." "Sir yes sir!" Everyone did a salute and watched as the Führer left. When they door closed they all collapsed and sighed in relief. "That was too close! I thought we'd get In trouble for sure!"
Roy goes to the box and said while touching Chiko. "It's okay Chiko, you can move now." Chiko moved and held Roy's finger. Roy smiled at that and Hawkeye said. "You better get going sir. You have to make a replica of Chiko and the little house." "Yes Lieutenant. I'll see you later." "See you later." Roy leaves with Chiko on his head, as they walked they heard footsteps behind them and heard. "Hey Colonel Wait up!" Roy turns around and looks at Ed and Al catching up to him. As they stopped Roy looks at them and asks. "Everything okay?" "Yes, but we were wondering if it's okay to stay with you?" "Of course it's okay for you to stay, why would you ask?" "Well we wanted to make sure before jumping to conclusions. You know because you have Chiko and he's shy." "It's okay guys, I told Chiko that you guys will stay with us while your in town. He doesn't mind you staying with us."
Ed and Al sigh in relief. "That's good to hear. Welp we're gonna do some research see y'a!" "See you at home Colonel Mustang!" Roy and Chiko waved at them as they left and left themselves. Those were good boys, Roy hoped that they'll get their bodies back. He just hopes.
Ed and Al walk up the colonels door step and knock on the door. It opens to reveal the colonel in regular clothes. "Ed, Al. Come on in, I was just making dinner." "Thanks for having us sir." "It's Alright Al and please call me Roy." He let them inside and shut the door, he goes into the kitchen and says. "I've finished the little play house and stuffed animal, its the exact replica of the one I made and Chiko."
Ed and Al look at it in surprise. "Wow Colonel, it's exactly the same." "Thank you." "Hey where's Chiko?" "He's next to the replica of him. He wants you to guess which one is him, it's really cute." Ed and Al look at the two Chikos and guess which one is which. Ed chose left while Al chose right, after finalizing their answers Chiko moved and held Al's finger. Al blushed at the cuteness as Ed looked at Roy, noticing him holding his side. "So how've you been? Has Monroe hurt you? "I'm good and yes he has. He's found new ways to hurt me, he just hits me in the wrong places in front of the others." "Don't worry colonel, we'll prove this guy is evil."
Roy looks at them and smiles. "I appreciate it." Roy finished making dinner and placed it on the table, he made stew and made Chiko a tiny soup with mini carrots and potatoes which he enjoyed. After dinner Roy and Chiko took a bath, the steam felt good on Roy's bones and bruises making them less achy. After the bath, Roy got dressed and dried Chiko off. As Roy dried his hair, he watched Chiko shake off the water. He smiled at that and said his good nights to Ed and Al then went to sleep.
While they were asleep, Roy had another nightmare. "I'm so sorry, please believe me. I swear I would never hurt anyone, I was just following orders I swear. I never wanted, to hurt anyone." He started crying and Chiko hopped to him and snuggled into his hair, the same glow from the first day they met appeared again and when it faded Roy stopped crying and smiled in his sleep.
