The next day, after escaping the plagued city of Cairo, Devon, Rick, Jonathan, and Ardeth travel by car to the Royal Airforce Airfield on the outskirts of Erfoud to seek additional help. They pass a security checkpoint and drive onto the airfield, then exit the car and walk out toward the nearby sand dunes where Winston Havelock, the old WWI British pilot was sitting out underneath an umbrella hut with a British attendant standing nearby.
"Morning, Winston. A word?" Rick says
Winston sat in his chair with a cup of tea in his right-hand as Devon, Rick, Jonathan, and Ardeth stood infront of him.
"So, what's your little problem got to do with His Majesty's Royal Air Corps?" Winston asks
"Not a damn thing." Rick says
Winston puts down his tea, looking intrigued.
"Is it dangerous?" Winston asks
"You probably won't live through it." Rick says
"By Jove, do you really think so?" Winston asks
"Well, everybody else we've bumped into has died. Why not you?" Jonathan says
Winston stands up, eager to hear what the mission was.
"What's the... What's the challenge, then?" Winston asks
"Rescue the damsel in distress, kill the bad guys, save the world." Rick says
Winston chuckles. He was more than happy to be part of a heroic mission.
"Winston Havelock at your service, sir! Ha ha!" Winston says giving the heroes a salute
With the WWI veteran onboard for the rescue mission, the heroes set off into the desert. They take Winston's yellow biplane and soar off into the desert.
Winston was in the cockpit, piloting the plane. Rick was seated in the gunner's compartment behind him. Because the plane only had two seats, Jonathan was tied to the left wing of the plane while Ardeth was tied to the right wing. Devon was up on the top of the biplane in a crouched position holding on to the top wing of the plane with his left-hand.
Rick looks toward Jonathan on his right.
"Are you alright?" Rick asks with a right thumbs up
"Do I bloody look alright?!" Jonathan says in a sarcastic tone
Rick then looks toward Devon up above him.
"Devon! How are you doing?" Rick asks
"I'm good!" Devon says
As they fly through the air, Devon looks over to his left and sees something large moving in the desert.
"Heads up! 9:00!" Devon says pointing out to the left
Rick and Winston look off to their left and they saw a large swirling whirlwind of sand moving across the dunes.
"See that? I've never seen one so big." Winston says
"Never?" Rick asks
"No." Winston says
The heroes continue their flight over the desert as they track the sand swirl.
The sandy whirlwind comes to a stop and starts to dissipate. Evy and Beni are thrown out and land in the sand with the Hungarian man landing on top of the young woman.
"Get off me! Get off!" Evy says
Evy pushes out from under Beni while the wimpy man pushes himself up.
"I need a new job." Beni says
Evy and Beni look toward the swirling sand as it condenses and forms into Imhotep. Lord Thanatos appears next to him on his left from a dark corridor. The two villains walk past Evy and Beni and look out across the dunes. Evy follows their gaze and she saw Hamunaptra, the city of the dead in the distance.
"Oh, my God. We're back." Evy says
Lord Thantos and Imhotep soon hear the sound of a plane in the air and they look up at the sky. Evy and Beni also hear the noise. Glancing up, they saw the heroes flying in the biplane above them. Evy knew that Rick and Devon would return for her and she held a hopeful expression on her face.
"O'Connell, Devon." Evy says smiling
Imhotep was displeased by the heroes' return. He looks toward Lord Thanatos, who nods. Turning to the desert, Imhotep spreads his arms out and lets out a loud roar. Summoning all the sands of the desert, he unleashes a vast sandstorm, which rises up in a massive wall of sand.
Devon and Rick look back and saw the sandstorm heading straight for them. Their expressions are filled with shock as they stared with widened eyes.
"Oh, my God. Hey, Winston, pedal faster!" Rick says
Winston looks into the side mirror of the plane on his left and he saw the wall of sand behind them.
"Hang on, men!" Winston says
The old pilot throws the throttle forward and puts the plane into a dive. The sandstorm chases the diving, twisting aircraft, matching it's speed as it soared across the desert.
Devon and Rick looks back into the blinding sand and a giant face appears on it's surface. It was Imhotep's face as he gave the heroes a sinister grin.
Rick takes the Lewis machine gun, cocks the bracket and fires, shooting at the giant sand face, but the bullets have no effect.
Devon summoned his Keyblade: Soul Calibur in his right-hand and helps Rick out in fending off the sandstorm. He aims his crystal Keyblade at the sand face and shoots blue orbs of light at the giant face. His attack had much more effect as the face reels back and roars in pain, which echoed through Imhotep as he felt the intense light of Soul Calibur and Devon's power.
Roaring in anger, Imhotep opens his mouth wide open and the giant face mimics the action, opening it's mouth as it closes in on the plane and the heroes. Rick backs away and puts on his aviator goggles as he braces himself. Devon stares up at the sandstorm in shock as it comes over him and his friends before everything went dark.
Evy watches in horror as the giant sand face of Imhotep literally swallows her brother and her friends. She turns to the two villains and begs them to stop.
"Stop it! You'll kill them!" Evy exclaims
"That's the idea." Beni says
Evy pushes Beni aside and rushes over to Imhotep and Lord Thanatos. Imhotep had his eyes closed as he was in his trance with the sandstorm to deal with the heroes.
"WATCH MS. CARNAHAN AS YOUR FOOLISH BROTHER AND YOUR FRIENDS SUFFER ADMIST THE TIDES OF SAND AND DARKNESS." Lord Thanatos says
Evy turns back to the sandstorm as the biplane appears through the sand for a brief moment, only to disappear inside.
Within the sandstorm, the biplane was surrounded by sand and darkness, spinning around uncontrollably as the engines roared. Jonathan and Ardeth both screamed, Devon held onto the plane with both hands, and Rick and Winston brace themselves. Winston, on the other hand, was delighted in earning a hero's death.
"Here I come, laddies!" Winston laughs
Evy couldn't watch any longer. In a desperate effort to save her brother and her friends, she grabs Imhotep and kisses him fully on the lips. Imhotep's eyes opened up in surprise as he loses his concentration. Evy turns him around so she can see behind him.
Imhotep's grip on the heroes was released as the sandstorm disappears, revealing the plane to be intact. Evy smiles as her friends and brother were safe while Imhotep looks back. Her smile quickly went away as she saw the plane was now damaged with the engine in flames and smoke trailing behind it. The aircraft flies overhead and disappears over a sand dune. A second later, a loud explosion is heard and a cloud of sand kicks up into the air, indicating that the plane had crashed.
Imhotep calmly strides toward Hamunaptra thinking that Devon and the others were dead. Beni watches him as he walked past.
"I loved the whole sand-wall trick. It was beautiful. Bastard." Beni says
Lord Thanatos followed the high priest as he and his Hungarian minion dragged a distraught Evy towards the ruined city, but stopped for a moment and looked back at where the plane had crashed. He knew better than to believe that the Keyblade Wielder could easily be killed in a vehicle crash. If he knew Devon and he did, the young hero will be on his way to Hamunaptra soon enough. And so, he turns back around and continues onward towards the city of the dead.
The biplane had crashed into the sand dune with the main body of the aircraft sticking forward into the sand. Both wings of the plane had broken off in the crash.
Devon had fallen off the plane and was now lying flat on his back. He rolls over, gets up, he stumbled forward, dazed from the crash. Ardeth stumbles from the crash, also in a daze. He removes his aviator hat and falls onto his knees. Rick climbs out of the gunner compartment, but he tumbles over and falls onto the ground, feeling dizzy. Jonathan was hanging upside down, still tied to the left-wing of the plane.
"Excuse me... Uh... A little help would be useful, if it's not too much trouble!" Jonathan says
"Yeah, yeah. All right." Rick says
Devon and Rick goes to help Jonathan down while Ardeth grabs the Lewis gun and tears it off from it's mount on the plane. Once Jonathan was free, Devon and Rick go over to the cockpit to check on Winston.
"Winston! Hey, Winston!" Rick says
The young teen and man reach the cockpit, but Winston doesn't respond. Rick places his fingers to Winston's neck and feels no pulse. The old man had died from breaking his neck in the crash. Devon, Rick, Jonathan, and Ardeth shared silent, solemn expressions as they looked toward each other. Suddenly, the biplane shifts and began to sink.
"Quicksand! Get back! It's quicksand!" Ardeth exclaims
Devon, Rick, Jonathan and Ardeth move back and watch as the biplane sinks into the desert sands like a sinking ship in water, taking Winston Havelock's body with it.
"Winston finally got his wish. He went down in a blaze of glory." Devon says
Rick gives the fallen war hero a silent salute with his right-hand for his help. Remembering the task at hand, Devon, Rick, Jonathan and Ardeth proceed toward Hamunaptra on foot, continuing their mission to save Evy and defeat Imhotep and Lord Thanatos.
Now in Hamunaptra, Imhotep and Lord Thanatos descend down the staircase leading down to the underground sacrificial chamber. Cobwebs and dust were everywhere, covering almost every part of the room. A disheartened Evy followed with Beni holding her at gunpoint with a revolver to her back.
"Keep moving." Beni says shoving Evy
Evy takes a step down until she looks back at Beni.
"You know, nasty little fellows such as yourself, always get their comeuppance." Evy says
Beni scoffs for a bit, but realized that Evy was being serious.
"Really? They do?" Beni asks
"Oh, yes. Always." Evy says
Evy continues heading down the staircase while Beni held a nervous expression. He heard some chittering in the chamber behind him and quickly moves down the stairs to catch up.
Elsewhere in the underground necropolis, Devon, Rick and Ardeth were digging out an entrance to the underground tunnels, pulling out rocks from the collapsed doorway while Jonathan stood behind them, watching with a torch in his right-hand.
"I'd take those bigger stones first. Take them from the top, otherwise the whole thing will cave in on us. Come on. Put your backs into it." Jonathan says
Devon, Rick and Ardeth drop what they're doing and they glance back at Jonathan with angry, frustrated looks on their faces. Jonathan smiles sheepishly.
"Yes, well, you've got the idea. Chop, chop." Jonathan says
Devon, Rick and Ardeth turn back to their work and continue digging through the rocks. Jonathan turns and looks over toward the wall mural on his right, distracted by several sapphire jewels embedded on the wall.
"I say!" Jonathan says
Jonathan walks over, plucks a jewel off the wall, and holds it flat in the palm of his left-hand, examining the precious item.
"Gents, you should come and have a look at this." Jonathan says
Suddenly, the jewel breaks open, revealing a scarab beetle as it emerges out of it's cocoon. The flesh-eating insect instantly burrows into Jonathan's palm and he freaks out and screams, drawing Devon, Rick, and Ardeth's attention.
"What? What is it?" Rick asks
"It's my arm! My arm!" Jonathan exclaims
Rick runs up and rips the right-sleeve off Jonathan's shirt. The scarab was now burrowing up inside under the skin.
"Whoa!" Rick exclaims
"A scarab's crawling in his arm!" Devon exclaims
"Do something! Do something!" Jonathan exclaims in a panicking voice
"Hold him!" Rick says
Devon and Ardeth hold Jonathan as the scarab reaches his shoulder while Rick whips out a pocket-knife and snaps it open.
"Not that! Not that!" Jonathan says
Rick cuts open the bulge on Jonathan's shoulder as he screams louder and flicks the scarab out. The bug falls onto the floor on it's back, but rolls onto it's tiny legs. The scarab chitters and immediately scurries back toward the heroes until Rick pulls out a revolver and blasts the pesky insect.
The gunshot echoes throughout the underground halls of the necropolis. It was loud enough that Imhotep, Lord Thanatos, Evy, and Beni heard it from within the sacrificial chamber as they glanced up. Relief washed over Evy as she realized that her brother and friends were still alive.
"O'Connell. Devon." Evy says
Imhotep takes the broken canopic jars that once held the remains of Anck-Su-Namun's heart and reaches inside for it. He crushes the old organ in his right-hand to dust and blows it at a stone mural, which had carvings of two priests in them. Then, he mutters an incantation.
"Sahtei vapew khu ahrnek." Imhotep chants in Ancient Egyptian
A few seconds later, some moaning sounds echoed within the room. And right before their eyes, the two priests ripped themselves from the wall, tearing away from the mural. It turns out these were two of Imhotep's dead priests, who had been mummified alive and encased within the mural. Evy and Beni watch with stunned expressions.
"Bembridge scholars never wrote about this." Evy says
The two mummy-priests stumble over to Imhotep and Lord Thanatos, and bow their heads before them, recognizing their masters. Imhotep bows his head to them, then speaks to his minions.
"Gech ha meihr. Haria kehtz. (Kill them. And wake the others.)" Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian pointing towards the corridor on his left
The two mummies turn and stagger off down the corridor to their right, obeying their master's will. As the undead creatures leave the chamber, Imhotep and Lord Thanatos turn to Evy, who stood fearful of the two villains. The Dark Keyblade Master stretches his left-hand toward the young woman and conjures up a spell. A dark aura envelopes his hand and a black light shines in his open palm. Evy found herself hypnotized under Lord Thanatos spell, staring into the dark light.
"SLEEP." Lord Thanatos says in a deep, demonic voice
Lord Thanatos' words echoed in Evy's head as now darkness swirled around her. Within moments, she falls asleep and falls backwards in Beni's arms. The Hungarian man looks up fearfully at the Dark Keyblade Master as he lowers his hand.
"PLACE HER UPON THE ALTAR." Lord Thanatos says
Lord Thanatos stretches his right-hand toward the altar and a dark aura emits through his hand. In a flash of darkness, a pair of black chains appear on both sides of the altar. The shackles emit a black-red evil glow.
"BIND HER IN CHAINS." Lord Thanatos says
Beni does as commanded and he drags Evy to the altar while Lord Thanatos and Imhotep watch with sinister smiles on their faces.
Elsewhere within the underground tunnels, Devon squeezes through a small crevice in a wall and emerges first into a chamber. Rick comes through next as he throws his torch and gun sack to the floor. Jonathan and Ardeth emerge out behind them. The room was dark, but Rick soon notices something glittering in the room close to the ceiling. It was a mirror disk, smaller in size, but similar to the larger ones he had seen earlier on their expedition. A shaft of light beams through a small hole in the ceiling, stopping against the wall close to the mirror disk. With an idea in mind, Rick slings his shotgun over his right-shoulder, cross draws his revolver in his right-hand, aims his gun at the mirror and fires a shot.
The bullet strikes the disk's pedestal, tilting the mirror upward into the light, which then bounced around from mirror to mirror, illuminating the room. The heroes soon found themselves standing inside an enormous treasure chamber filled with great amounts of gold, jewels, and treasure. There were gold statues life-sized and miniature-sized. Gold coins in huge quantities sitting in piles both large and small. Everything was sparking and shining in the chamber. The entire wealth of Egypt laid before them.
Everyone stared in amazement with widened eyes and mouths hanging open. Jonathan was more stunned at the treasure than the others.
"Can you see..." Jonathan asks
"Yes." Rick says
"Can you believe..." Jonathan asks
"Yes." Rick says
"Can we just..." Jonathan asks
"No." Rick says
Suddenly, the three men and young teen heard a croaking noise behind them, causing them to spin around and draw their weapons. Devon summoned his trusted Keyblade: Soul Calibur, Rick took out his shotgun, and Ardeth held onto the Lewis machine gun. The sandy floor cracks and a mummy rises up, pulling itself from the ground. Then another, and another, and another. Soon, several mummies emerge from the floor, groaning in their undead voices.
"Who the hell are these guys?" Rick asks
"Priests. Imhotep's priests." Ardeth says
"So, they're like his minions." Devon says
"Alright then." Rick says
Rick and Ardeth immediately shoot their guns at the mummies, gunning them down and blasting them to bits.
Jonathan pulls out two revolvers from Rick's holsters and shoots alongside them, much to Rick's surprise. He guns down the mummies with the two men, but he quickly runs out of ammunition and ends up throwing the guns at the undead creatures.
Devon throws Soul Calibur at one mummy with a left toss, cutting off it's head. Calling his crystal Keyblade back, he shoots an explosive fireball, which homes in on five mummies and blasts them into oblivion. Next, he raises Soul Calibur above his head, summoning a large boulder, which falls right on top of three other mummies, crushing them to dust.
No matter how many were killed, more mummies continued to appear, forcing the heroes to retreat down into another tunnel while the undead creatures pursued them.
As soon as they were gone, Beni stumbles into the chamber and stares in wonder at all the treasure around him.
Evy stirs awake after being put to sleep by Lord Thanatos and she found herself chained to the altar by her hands and ankles to prevent her from escaping. She soon heard squeaking and felt movement crawling around on her stomach. Looking down, she saw filthy rats moving all over her body and begins to panic. Evy turns to the left to get the rats off her and she came face-to-face with the rotting corpse of a woman. It was Anck-Su-Namun laying next to her. Horrified, Evy lets out a scream.
Devon, Rick, Jonathan and Ardeth retreat down a tunnel with dozens of mummies striding after them until they reach a small chamber. Jonathan was the first to enter the room and he was surprised to see they had found the Statue of Horus.
"There he is!" Jonathan says
Jonathan runs up to the statue.
"Hello, Horus, old boy!" Jonathan says
Rick continues firing his shotgun at the mummies, blasting them with three shots as they come down the tunnel. He soon hands Ardeth the shotgun and pulls out a stick of dynamite. He takes a match and strikes it off Ardeth's stubble face. The Medjai leader stares at Rick and he looks back at him, but Rick soon lights the dynamite.
"Time to close the door." Rick says
Rick throws the dynamite down the tunnel and they all hit the deck. The dynamite explodes, blasting away the mummies in a cloud of rock and sand.
The priest mummies start surrounding the altar as Evy hopelessly struggles to free herself. The mummies kneel down and begin to chant, which sounded garbled and horrific due to the lack of tongues, jaws and mouths. Imhotep and Lord Thanatos step up with the high priest carrying the Book Of The Dead in his hands. Imhotep glances down at Evy, then looks over at Anck-Su-Namun. He reaches out and lovingly caresses the decayed head of his deceased lover.
"Anck-Su-Namun." Imhotep says
Imhotep takes out the key/box and unlocks the Book of the Dead with a clockwise turn while Evy cries out for help.
"O'Connell! Jonathan! Devon!" Evy cries out
Back in the Chamber of Horus, Devon, Rick and Jonathan dig away at the seams of the secret compartment. They hear croaking coming from the corridor as more mummies were heading their way.
"Damn! These guys just don't know when to quit." Rick says
"Keep digging!" Ardeth says cocking the shotgun in his hands
Outside on the surface, Beni staggers across the sand with a satchel filled with treasure. He runs over to herd of camels that belonged to the legionnaires once long ago and takes the reins of one, pulling the animal to the temple doorway.
The Hungarian man throws his treasure-filled satchel over the rear of a camel, causing it to groan. Beni looks at the treasure he's gathered so far, but for him, it wasn't enough. He then look back at the entrance to the underground ruins, eager to claim more riches.
Back in the Chamber of Horus, Ardeth blasts away at the mummies with his shotgun, providing cover fire as Rick and Jonathan pull out an ornate chest out of the secret compartment. They rip off the lid, reach inside, and take out a heavy burlap bag. Unfolding the flaps, they find the object they were looking for: The Book of Amun-Ra.
The Book of Amun-Ra or the Book of the Living was an ancient volume made from pure gold with brass hinges and was held with great reverence. In contrast to it's counterpart, the black Book of the Dead, which gives life, this one took life away with reverse incantations.
The book's golden light reflects off it's cover as Devon, Rick, and Jonathan stare in wonder.
"The Book of Amun-Ra." Jonathan says
Ardeth was still firing at the mummies, blasting them with four shots until the gun finally ran out of ammunition. With no other means to fight the mummies, the Medjai leader looks back toward Devon, Rick and Jonathan.
"Save the girl! Defeat Lord Thanatos! Kill the creature!" Ardeth says
Ardeth turns back to the mummies and charges forward into the corridor with a battle cry, swinging his empty gun at the undead creatures, much to the shock of Devon and the two men. Rick takes out another stick of dynamite and lights it. They move out and look toward Ardeth as he was being overwhelmed by the mummies.
"Ardeth!" Devon exclaims
"What are you waiting for?! Get out! Get out!" Ardeth shouts
The Medjai leader soon disappears within the undead horde and the trio moves back as three mummies turned to them. Rick throws the dynamite at the far wall and he, Devon, and Jonathan hit the deck. The dynamite detonates in a large explosion, which blasts away the mummies coming into the chamber and blasts a hole in the wall, creating a new path for the trio out of the room.
While Ardeth led the mummies away, Devon, Rick, and Jonathan head on through the newly made tunnel, hopefully heading for Evy, Imhotep, and Lord Thanatos.
In the sacrificial chamber, Imhotep reads from the Book of the Dead as the rotten priest-mummies rock back and forth chanting in Ancient Egyptian. Evy looks to her right and saw a strange mist rise out of the blue-gray liquids in the detritus moat. It was Anck-Su-Namun's soul in the form of a spirit. The spirit passes over the canopic jars and Evy, floating over to Anck-Su-Namun's body.
"Yahdtoo hai! Yahdtoo hai! Yahdtoo hai!" Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian
Anck-Su-Namun's soul enters her body and the undead woman jerks upward, letting out a shriek. She turns and looks right at Evy, who lets out a terrified scream. Evy looks to her right and up toward Lord Thanatos and Imhotep, who now had the golden ceremonial dagger in his hands as they stood beside her.
"COMPLETE THE RITUAL, IMHOTEP, AND YOU WILL BECOME IMMORTAL." Lord Thanatos says
Imhotep nods in agreement and glances down at Evy.
"Teemah hou mayet Anck-Su-Namun. Nehkhai... zakhami! (With your death, Anck-Su-Namun shall live. And I... shall be invincible!)" Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian
He raises it up over Evy's chest while she screams out in horror. Then, in that moment, Jonathan bursts into the chamber, standing at the height of the staircase, brandishing the gold book of the living.
"The Book of Amun-Ra! I found it, Evy! I found it!" Jonathan says
Imhotep and Lord Thanatos glance up toward Jonathan and saw that he was holding the Book of Amun-Ra.
"Kootaih Amun-Ra. (The Book of Amun-Ra.)" Imhotep says
"Shut up and get me off of here, Jonathan." Evy says
Imhotep and Lord Thanatos began walking up toward Jonathan. The high priest sets the dagger down next to Anck-Su-Namun as he and the Dark Keyblade Master approached him. While the two villains walk across the moat toward the stairs, they were unaware that Devon and Rick had sneaked in on the other side of the chamber. Rick quietly grabs a golden sword out of a statue's hand and silently move closer towards the altar.
"Open the book, Jonathan! Open the book! It's the only way to kill him! You have to open the book and find the inscription!" Evy says
Jonathan fumbles with the book, struggling to open it.
"I can't open it! It's locked or something!" Jonathan says
Jonathan spots the same lock on the book as the one from the Imhotep's sarcophagus. At that moment, the realization hit him.
"We need the key, Evy!" Jonathan says
"It's inside his robes!" Evy says
Jonathan backs away from Imhotep and Lord Thanatos, clutching the golden book in his arms.
Soon enough, Devon and Rick jump into action, announcing their presence. Evy looks over to her right and was relieved to see the two heroes. Lord Thanatos and Imhotep turn back around, taking notice of the Keyblade Wielder and adventurer while Jonathan takes off in a corridor behind him. Rick raises his sword over his head and cuts the chain holding Evy's right-hand.
"O'Connell! Devon!" Evy exclaims happily
Imhotep issues a command to his priests, ordering them to attack Devon and Rick.
"Eeb yew set nah. (Destroy them.)" Imhotep commands in Ancient Egyptian
The mummy priests got up onto their feet and they turned to the two heroes, groaning in their undead voices.
Rick cuts through a priest with a left slash, slicing it in half across the waist and freeing Evy's right-leg in the process. He turns around and slices another priest to pieces, swinging his sword from left to right three times. Two mummy priests approaches Rick from the sides as he turns around. He elbows the priest on his right, then delivers a strong punch at the other mummy, which sends the undead creature spinning. Rick stabs another priest in the stomach, then turns and throws it over the altar.
Devon kicks two mummies back with a split kick, then delivers a right spinning slash, cutting them both down in one stroke. The young teen turns and bisects a priest vertically in half from the head down with an overhead slash. A mummy comes up from behind Devon and grabs him in a bear hug, but the Keyblade Wielder throws the undead creature off and delivers a left slash at it's stomach, then a right slash at it's head, causing the priest to fall in pieces.
Rick kicks a priest in the groin, then turns to his left and kicks another mummy with both his legs before stabbing down a third priest through it's body. Rick cuts down one priest on his left, then turns and cuts down the other one on his right. A third mummy stalks toward Rick from behind with it's hands stretched out toward him. The adventurer takes notice and dispatches the undead creature with a quick right slash and a downward slash. Another priest grabs hold of Rick from behind, but he throws it off him and into another mummy.
Devon aims Soul Calibur at two mummies and a whirl of dark and light energy appears at the tip, lifting them into the air with a gravity spell. The undead creatures slowly drifted about in the air until the young teen thrusts his left-hand forward, blasting the two priests away with a telekinetic blast, sending them flying until they smash into the walls of the chamber and shatter into pieces. A mummy climbs up onto the altar, but Devon notices as he turns to his right and swings Soul Calibur with right slash, shattering the priest's upper body.
Rick slices a priest across the chest with a right slash, then kicks it away with his right-leg, separating it's upper body. He turns to another mummy on his left and slices it's head off with a right slash. The undead creature juggles it's head in it's hands while Rick watches, but he soon bats away the head with a left swing, sending it flying like a baseball.
"Mummies." Rick says
Rick was about to swing his sword down on the chains to set Evy free, but he fell down to the ground as a dismembered corpse grabs him by his ankles and pulled him down. It turns out a few of the mummies were still alive, even though their legs were chopped off. In the fall, Rick dropped his sword as the mummy grabbed his legs. He looked over to his right and saw his sword only inches away from him. He goes to reach for it, but then another legless mummy crawls up from behind and goes for his neck.
Devon was finishing off the last of the priests, swinging Soul Calibur down on the mummies when he turns around and saw Rick down on the ground, trapped by the mummies.
"Rick!" Devon exclaims
Devon was about to go and help Rick until he was also dragged down by his legs by a priest. Like Rick, he drops Soul Calibur in the fall. The young teen looks down saw the mummy holding onto his legs. He tried to free his legs in order to kick the mummy away, but the undead creature kept them together in a tight grip. Then, another priest crawls up behind Devon and goes for his neck, too. Both Devon and Rick held the mummies back as they struggled to free themselves.
Evy couldn't help but watch as the heroes were trapped. Then, she saw two mummies carrying two large stone tablets heading straight for the young teen and adventurer to crush them.
"O'Connell! Devon!" Evy cries out
Devon and Rick noticed the two approaching mummies as well and they struggled to free themselves from the grip of the undead creatures.
Rick reaches for his sword, which was inches away from his right-hand, but was having a hard time trying to get it. Then, he saw a mummy hand crawling on the ground, heading for his sword. The hand grabs hold of the sword and Rick seizes his chance. He grabs hold of the sword and hacks at the mummy's legs. The undead creature screams in realization and horror, fell backwards, and was flattened by the heavy slab.
Devon reaches for Soul Calibur, only inches from his right-hand while the mummy with the stone slab slowly approached him on his right. Eventually, he grabs hold of his crystal Keyblade and hacks at the mummy's legs with right-slash before it could harm him. And just like the first, the mummy falls backwards and the stone slab drops on top of it. Once that was dealt with, Devon manages to free his right-foot and kicks the priest at his legs until it finally releases him. Then, he grabs the priest behind him and throws it off.
Rising to his feet, Devon finishes off both the pesky creatures with Soul Calibur, then goes to help Rick out. He kicks the priest off Rick's legs, then brings his Keyblade down on the mummy latching onto his neck, much to Rick's relief.
Jonathan returns to the chamber from another corridor and notices something on the gold book. There was an inscription engraved on the cover of the book.
"Here's an inscription." Jonathan says
Jonathan reads the inscription out loud in Ancient Egyptian.
"Rasheem... Rasheem... Rasheem ahmulu kashka!" Jonathan chants in Ancient Egyptian
With the incantation read out loud, ten mummy warriors stride out of a separate doorway and enter the chamber, all sporting soldier garb and armed with sickles, curved swords, spears, and shields. The mummies turn and face Devon, Rick and Evy, who was now freed.
"Oh, yeah. This just keeps getting better and better." Rick says
"Do something, Jonathan." Evy says
"Me?" Jonathan says
"You can command them." Evy says
"You have got to be joking." Jonathan says
"Finish the inscription on the cover, idiot, then you can control them." Evy says
Devon, Rick and Evy back away from the mummies as they slowly stalk closer. Suddenly, Anck-Su-Namun rises up behind them with the gold dagger in her hands. She slashes at Evy, but she backs away from her, causing her to miss.
"Ihmei hudehk mai yaw!" Imhotep commands in Ancient Egyptian
Devon and Rick were about go and help Evy when they turned back as five mummies jump toward them. Rick yells at them and the mummies respond by roaring at him. Rick stares at the undead creatures in disbelief, then turns and runs away from them. Three of the mummies chase after Rick as he hops across the moat while the other two attack Devon.
One of the mummy soldiers swing it's curved blade down at Devon, but he holds Soul Calibur up in defense, catching the blade as it's tip came only inches from his face. The young teen and undead creature were caught in a clash, but Devon soon broke off as he flings the sickle over to the left out of the mummy's grip. Then, Devon cuts off the mummy's arms from left to right with an upward and downward slash and finishes it off with a left slash at it's waist, slicing it in half. The other mummy soldier lunges it's spear at Devon, but he jumps over to the right and brings Soul Calibur down on the spear, breaking the tip off the wood. Devon swings his crystal Keyblade at the mummy with a right slash, knocking the shield out of it's hand and cuts down the undead creature with left-downward slash.
After dealing with the two mummies, Devon turns his attention to Lord Thanatos, who jumps across the moat and lands on the other side with a loud thud. He rises up to his feet and standing tall before the young teen, he summons his Dark Keyblade: The Harbinger of Shadows in his right-hand in a flash of black-red darkness. Devon held Soul Calibur infront of him as he got into battle stance, preparing himself for a fight against the Dark Keyblade Master.
Lord Thanatos made the first move, attacking with the Harbinger of Shadows raised over his right-shoulder with both hands. Devon quickly held up Soul Calibur in defense as he blocked against the blow, which was aimed for his head. He shoves away the Dark Keyblade and swings his crystal Keyblade left and right at Lord Thanatos, who blocks his attacks, parrying Soul Calibur with the Harbinger of Shadows. The dark being soon knocks Devon's Keyblade away and hits him with backhand across the face, causing Devon to spin around and stagger backwards. Devon stumbles back after being smacked in the face. He looks up and saw Lord Thanatos raising his Dark Keyblade to strike him. Reacting quickly, Devon leans over to the right just as the evil being swings his Dark Keyblade down. Lord Thanatos then turns and swings two horizontal strikes at Devon, who blocks the attacks and counters with a backflip slash, knocking the dark being back a bit.
Devon strikes back at Lord Thanatos, hitting him with a thrusting strike, a right-uppercut slash, a left slash, a reverse roundhouse slash, a right spinning slash, which hits three times, and strong left-diagonal slash with Soul Calibur raised over his right-shoulder. Lord Thanatos lunges at the young teen with a thrusting strike, sliding forward with the Harbinger of Shadows stretched out to stab him. Devon jumps over to the left, dodging the Dark Keyblade, and counters with right slash at the evil being's side. Lord Thanatos grunts from the blow and looks toward the Keyblade Wielder with anger clear in his red eyes. With a growl, he swings his Dark Keyblade with a right slash at Devon, who ducks down to avoid being hit and rises up with a right-uppercut slash. The dark being leans his body to the right, dodging Soul Calibur, which misses him by inches. He then brings the Harbinger of Shadows down on Devon with both hands on his Dark Keyblade. Devon quickly held up his crystal Keyblade over his head as he blocks against the powerful blow, putting the two warriors in a blade lock.
While Devon and Rick were busy dealing with Lord Thanatos and the mummies, Evy flees from Anck-Su-Namun into another part of the chamber, panting in a panic as the undead concubine chased her with the ceremonial dagger in her left-hand, shrieking in her voice. Although she was a rotting corpse, Anck-Su-Namun moved very fast.
"Hurry up, Jonathan!" Evy says
Evy runs around the statues and stone coffins in the room as Anck-Su-Namun pursues her.
Rick flees from the mummies as they were hot on his heels. He runs toward a hanging cage near the staircase of the chamber, grabs the rope and cuts the lower end with his sword, pulling himself up while the cage comes down on one of the mummy soldiers.
When he reaches the top, Rick heads into another corridor, only to run right back out as more mummy soldiers chase after him. Rick descends down the stairs while the mummies crawl on the walls like spiders. When he reaches the bottom of the stairs, he turns around and noticed the mummies were gone. But when he faces forward, he saw four mummy soldiers land infront of him.
"Whoa!" Rick exclaims
One of the mummies attacks with it's sword, swinging left and right at him. Rick defends himself with his sword, parrying the blade. He soon slices it's head off and kicks it away. Rick throws a second mummy over his right-shoulder into the moat and parries a third mummy as it swings it's sickle at him. He brings his right-knee up into the mummy's stomach, forcing it down to it's knees. Then, cuts down the mummy soldier with a downward slash, cleaving into it's decayed body. Another undead soldier creeps up behind Rick, but the adventurer unknowingly stabs into it's head as he finishes off the other mummy. He notices the now headless mummy behind him as it swings it's curved blade aimlessly and turns around, swinging his sword with a right slash as he slices through it and sending it's head flying.
A mummy soldier charges at Rick and swings it's sword at him, attacking him with three strikes while he blocks with his sword. On the third strike, the adventurer was knocked down onto the stone floor. Rick notices a torch on his left close by and goes for it. Grabbing the torch, he thrusts the flames at the mummy soldier, sending it ablaze while it flails it's arms around, shrieking in horror. Rick quickly got up onto his feet and kicks the flaming mummy into the moat with his right-foot.
Down below in the chamber, Jonathan was still fumbling with the Book of Amun-Ra, trying to read an incantation.
"I can't figure out this last symbol." Jonathan says
"What does it look like!?" Evy asks
Anck-Su-Namun comes from around the corner and grabs Evy by her throat and tries to stab her with the ceremonial dagger.
"It's a-a bird. A stork!" Jonathan says flapping his left-arm like a bird
Evy was held back against the wall by Anck-Su-Namun as she held her by her throat with one hand and the dagger in the other hand. The young woman gagged in the undead woman's grip, but she manages to utter the last piece of the incantation to her brother.
"Ah! Ah! Ahmenophus!" Evy says
Evy shoves Anck-Su-Namun back. Jonathan looks down at the gold book and the realization hit him.
"Oh, yes. I see." Jonathan says
On the other side of the chamber, Devon was still in his duel with Lord Thanatos.
Devon attacks the dark being with a light-based attack, aiming Soul Calibur at him and launching a salvo of ten blue light projectiles. Lord Thanatos thrusts his left-hand forward and shoots ten black-red dark projectiles through his open palm. Both projectiles of light and dark clash with multiple explosions, canceling each other out.
Lord Thanatos comes at Devon with a ferocious string of attacks, swinging his Dark Keyblade left and right with incredibly fast speed and strong power while the young teen does his best to parry against them. He soon catches Devon's Keyblade and thrusts his left-hand forward, blasting the young teen back with telekinetic force. Devon is sent flying a few meters away until he falls flat on his back. He crawls away from Lord Thanatos as he walked toward him with his Dark Keyblade in hand. The dark being raises the Harbinger of Shadows over his head and brings it down on Devon, who held Soul Calibur up horizontally and blocked it. Lord Thanatos pushes down on Devon while he pushed against his strength.
Up on the staircase, Rick cuts down two mummy soldiers with his sword and pushes a third one down the stairs until two more drop down behind, catching him surprise. One of the mummies swings it's curved blade at Rick with a downward slash. Rick blocks the attack, but was knocked back and he rolled down the stairs, landing on his back at the bottom. Two more mummy soldiers jumped and joined the other two as they advanced toward Rick while he crawled away. They all raise their weapons ready to strike until Jonathan spoke the incantation from the golden book.
"Hootash im ahmenophus!" Jonathan chants in Ancient Egyptian
Imhotep, who was advancing toward Jonathan stops and looks back at the mummies as they stopped in their tracks with their weapons all pointed toward Rick's face. Even Lord Thanatos, who had his Dark Keyblade inches from Devon's face stopped and glanced toward the mummies.
Rick opened his eyes and saw all the blades of the mummy soldiers at his face. Removing their blades from Rick, the undead creatures turn to attention at Jonathan, standing idle as they await new ordes. Imhotep tried to give them commands, ordering them to kill Rick.
"Eeb yew set nah! Eeb yew set nah! (Destroy him! Destroy him!)" Imhotep shouts in Ancient Egyptian
The mummies continue to stand idle, ignoring Imhotep's demanding voice.
"Eeb yew set nah! (I command you to destroy him!)" Imhotep shouts in Ancient Egyptian
While Lord Thanatos was distracted, Devon kicks his Dark Keyblade away with his right-foot, rolls back halfway and jumps back at the dark being, kicking him in the chest with both feet. Lord Thanatos staggers backwards a bit as Devon lands on his feet.
Jonathan looks over to the other side of the chamber and saw Evy with her back against the wall as Anck-Su-Namun stalked towards her with the ceremonial dagger. With the mummies now under his command, Jonathan gives them a new order.
"Dehaw kakooshka Anck-Su-Namun." Jonathan says in Ancient Egyptian
With that, the four mummies turn back around and march towards Anck-Su-Namun with their swords, sickles, and spears, passing Rick. The undead concubine saw the mummy soldiers approaching her on her left and she backed away in fear. Wanting to save his loved one, Imhotep turns to Jonathan and rushes toward him.
"Keihma rutay! (Give me that book!)" Imhotep yells in Ancient Egyptian
Jonathan backs away from the high priest as he approaches him. Imhotep was almost on Jonathan when he heard a voice cry out for him. It was the decayed voice of Anck-Su-Namun.
"Imhotep!" Anck-Su-Namun cries out
The high priest turns back to his loved one and goes to run back for her.
"Anck-Su-Namun!" Imhotep cries out
Imhotep soon stops and watches as the mummy soldiers attack Anck-Su-Namun. One of the mummies stabs the undead woman in her stomach with it's spear. Then, the others surround her and began cleaving their blades and spears down on Anck-Su-Namun, hacking her to pieces. Now, Imhotep was really angry. He turns back to Jonathan and stomps toward him.
"Mahtu taei! (Now you die!)" Imhotep yells in Ancient Egyptian
Imhotep grabs Jonathan by his throat and lifts him up against the wall to strangle him. Rick runs up and swings his sword at Imhotep, slicing his right-arm off. Jonathan drops to the ground with Imhotep's arm still grabbed onto his throat.
The high priest looks at his severed arm, which had rotten sinew where it was chopped off. Even though he had regenerated his human appearance, Imhotep was still a dead man underneath. He glances back at Rick with an angry expression, grabs him by his shirt with his left-hand and throws him across the chamber, not caring at all that his robe has slipped off. Rick slams into a stone obelisk not far from where Devon and Lord Thanatos were fighting and falls to the ground. Imhotep grabs his severed arm and twists it back onto his body as he approaches Rick.
Jonathan notices Imhotep's robes on the ground and goes through it. Soon enough, he finds the key/box and holds it up in his left-hand.
"Evy! I got it!" Jonathan says
Evy rushes over to Jonathan and takes the key from her brother.
"Keep him busy." Evy says
Rick slams into a statue after being thrown around by Imhotep and falls onto the ground again, but pushes himself back up.
"No problem." Rick says
Evy manages to open the book using the key/box while Imhotep sends Rick flying for a third time with a right-uppercut over the altar. Devon and Lord Thanatos both stood in a clash with their Keyblades locked against each other, but that soon ended when Rick crashes into Devon, causing them both to fall onto the ground. Imhotep steps over, grabs Rick by his throat with his right-hand, and lifts him off the ground while Lord Thanatos places his right-foot down on Devon's chest, keeping him pinned down.
Jonathan saw was about to happen to the two heroes and begins to panic, begging his sister to hurry along with the book.
"Hurry, Evy! Faster!" Jonathan says
"You're not helping." Evy says in a sing-song voice
Rick gagged and choked in Imhotep's tight grip as he strangled him. He was actually starting to turn blue as the evil high priest stares into his eyes.
"Enak, gek hai yaw. (Now, it's your turn.)" Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian
Imhotep unhinges his jaw to finish Rick off while Lord Thanatos raises his the Harbinger of Shadows behind his back, ready to finish Devon off as he struggled to push his heavy foot off him, grunting in effort.
"Oh! I got it!" Evy exclaims
Evy began reading an inscription in the book, which made Imhotep and Lord Thanatos stop what they were doing.
"Kadeesh mal! Kadeesh mal!" Evy chants in Ancient Egyptian
The two villains turn and look over towards Evy as she continues with the incantation.
"Pared oos! Pared oos!" Evy chants in Ancient Egyptian
Suddenly, there was a loud roar, the sound of a whip lashing, and horses whinnying. Everyone looks up at the top of the stairs and a large blue vortex appears and a misty Egyptian spirit riding a ghostly horse chariot rides out. It was Anubis, the Egyptian god of death. Lord Thanatos teleports out of the way in a flash of darkness while Imhotep lets go of Rick and backs away as the ghostly chariot races through the chamber. The spirit goes right through Imhotep and a blue spirit stretches out of the high priest's body. Anubis rides back up the staircase toward the swirling vortex with a blue version of Imhotep trapped onboard and screaming. Imhotep chases after the ghostly chariot, but it was too late as it disappears into the portal and vanishes.
Devon and Rick head over to Evy and Jonathan's side as Imhotep turns and faces them. Rick rolls over a rectangular stone and picks up his sword, standing next to Devon as he held Soul Calibur in his right-hand.
"I thought you said it was gonna kill him." Rick says
Imhotep moves forward with a furious expression, growling in anger as he intended on killing the group. But before he could do anything, Rick impales the high priest with his sword, stabbing into his stomach and causing Imhotep to cry out in pain. He looks down at his body and blood seeps out of the stab wound. It turned out the spell Evy used to summon Anubis had stripped him of his immortality.
"He's mortal." Evy says with a pleased smile
Rick removed his sword and Imhotep stumbles backwards into the detritus moat. He slowly sinks into the fetid waters as numerous souls in the form of ghostly skulls appeared on the surface, surrounding the high priest. His body slowly decays back into the mummy that he was. Imhotep looked up toward the group and utters his final words to them.
"Drow meht beh reharet." Imhotep says in Ancient Egyptian
Imhotep's head soon degrades as his eyeballs disappear and he vanishes underneath the black waters of the moat, letting out one last monstrous roar.
"Death is only the beginning." Evy translates
With Imhotep now defeated, Devon, Rick, Evy, and Jonathan look over to their right and turn their attention toward Lord Thanatos as he reappears on the other side of the chamber near the staircase with his Dark Keyblade. He de-summons The Harbinger of Shadows from his hand and stands across from the heroes, staring at them with his deadly gaze.
"MALICE IS GRANTED FLESH. SUFFERING IS THE COIN OF THE REALM. ALTHOUGH YOU POSSESS THE GOLDEN BOOK OF AMUN-RA, NO SUCH SACRED OBJECT CAN HARM ME. MY EXISTENCE EXTENDS FAR BEYOND THE ANCIENT GODS OF THIS WORLD. YOU MAY HAVE DEFEATED IMHOTEP, BUT NOW WE SHALL SEE HOW YOU CONTEND WITH MY POWER." Lord Thanatos says
Lord Thanatos spreads his hands out and dark blue lightning crackles and dances. A black-red aura of darkness envelopes the evil villain as he slowly levitates in the chamber. Devon moves infront of Rick, Evy, and Jonathan as he prepared to fight the Dark Keyblade Master. Lord Thanatos cups his hands together and conjures up a dark blue orb of darkness, which burned with dark flames of the same color, and it grew in size until it was as large as a basketball.
"FEAR COMES IN MANY FORMS. A CHILD. A WARRIOR. EVEN A FRIEND. IF YOU THOUGHT IMHOTEP WAS A HORRIFYING BEING, YOU HAVEN'T SEEN ANYTHING YET! NOW, I SHALL SHOW YOU TRUE TERROR!" Lord Thanatos says
Thrusting his right-hand forward, Lord Thanatos launches the dark fireball at the sacrificial altar infront of the four. The dark projectile hits the stone altar with a large, powerful explosion that completely destroys it, blasting the altar into dozens of tiny fragments. Devon shields himself with his right-arm, Rick grabs hold of Evy and covers her, and Jonathan turns away and covers himself with his arms. When they look back, they saw the altar in pieces. Devon, Rick, Evy, and Jonathan were stunned by the dark being's power. They turn and face Lord Thanatos as he hovers in the air.
"YOU THINK YOU HAVE WON, BUT THIS IS ONLY THE BEGINNING. DARKNESS WILL RISE. THE HEAVENS WILL PART. POWER WILL BE UNLEASHED!" Lord Thanatos says
"Not if I have anything to say about it." Devon says
While Rick, Evy, and Jonathan hanged back, Devon steps forward with Soul Calibur in his right-hand to challenge Lord Thanatos with a determined, courageous expression clear on his face. He spun his crystal Keyblade around and got into battle stance as he stood ready to face the dark being once more.
Lord Thanatos crosses his arms across his chest, then thrusts them out, summoning seven black-red, double-edged, ethereal blades of dark energy, which appear out of thin air around him in flashes of darkness, sparking with red electricity. Thrusting both hands forward, he sends the blades flying towards Devon at fast speed. Everything moves in slow motion as Devon dodges the dark blades. He jumps and spins in the air, dodging the ethereal blades as they miss him by inches with one passing over him and the other passing under. He jumps up again and dodges four more blades as they come flying at him, moving his head down to the right as one flies past his face while the other two pass both side of his body and one passes under between his legs. Upon landing, Devon leans his whole body back, dodging the seventh blade as it flies over him.
Devon leaps forward at Lord Thanatos with a left spinning slash, only to miss as the dark being leans over to the left, dodging the attack. Lord Thanatos summons his Dark Keyblade and takes a few swings at Devon, attacking with three horizontal slashes. Devon parries the blows and counters with a roundhouse slash, landing a hit on Lord Thanatos' chest, causing him to grunt in pain. The dark being growls in anger and rapidly swings the Harbinger of Shadows at the young teen with swift visible black-red slashes. Devon leans his body away and to the sides as Lord Thanatos attacks him, dodging every strike thrown at him. Eventually, he blocks one blow with Soul Calibur, swings the Dark Keyblade away to the left, and delivers two reverse roundhouse kicks, hitting the right side of Lord Thanatos' with both feet. Then, Devon delivers a knee strike using his right-knee to his head again, knocking the evil entity back. Devon proceeds to attack Lord Thanatos with a right slash, but he teleports away in a flash of darkness to the other side of the chamber.
Charging up with dark energy, Lord Thanatos surrounds himself in a red, violet, and black aura of darkness and flies forward, heading straight for Devon at very fast speed. Devon quickly jumps and rolls over to the right, dodging the dark being as he darts past him. Then, Lord Thanatos appears above him with the Harbinger of Shadows raised over his head to strike. Devon quickly jumps back just as the evil entity drops down and slams his Dark Keyblade into the ground, generating dozens black and red dark spikes on impact.
Devon lands on the other side of the chamber with a backflip, flying over the remains of the altar, then dashes forward with Soul Calibur held with both hands over his left-shoulder. He swings at the dark being, only to be blocked as Lord Thanatos held his Dark Keyblade opposite of him. Continuing the offensive, Devon swings Soul Calibur with an upward and downward slash, a left slash and a reverse roundhouse slash. Lord Thanatos leans left and right, avoiding the first strikes, then parries the other two. Lord Thanatos raises the Harbinger of Shadows over his head and swings at Devon with a wide-sweeping slash. The young teen jumps over the attack and counters with a left-kick to the dark being's stomach, causing him to lurch forward. He then delivers a backflip slash under Lord Thanatos' chin, and a roundhouse kick, spinning around and kicking him in the face with his right-foot.
Lord Thanatos conjures up a large black-red disc of dark energy in his left-hand and hurls it at Devon. The young teen quickly ducks down, dodging the dark energy disc as it flies over head, then leaps toward the dark being with a somersault slash. Lord Thanatos holds the Harbinger of Shadows up in defense as he blocks against Soul Caliber and pushes Devon away, sending him back to the other side of the chamber. Then, he thrusts his left-hand forward, launching a strong dark blue electric blast at the Keyblade Wielder. Devon stood his ground and holds Soul Calibur infront of him, deflecting the lightning bolts as they strike the crystal Keyblade, bouncing arcs of electricity in every direction throughout the entire chamber. Some of the lightning came close to hitting Rick, Evy, and Jonathan as they took cover behind a statue on the left side of the room. The attack went on for at least thirty seconds before Lord Thanatos ceases and lowers his hand while Devon swings his Keyblade over to his right-side.
Both Devon and Lord Thanatos stand on opposite sides of the chamber in an intense stare down. The Keyblade Wielder was holding out well so far against his arch enemy, but there was no telling of what might happen next.
Elsewhere in the underground necropolis, Beni staggers across a corridor, straining under the weight of another satchel filled with treasure. He spots a lever sticking out of a wall and throws the bag over it and collapses against the wall exhausted. He takes a moment to catch his breath.
Suddenly, the weight of the treasure pulls down on the lever, which starts a chain reaction. Beni backs away and looks around as all the walls start to sink into the ground along with tons of pouring sand.
Back in the underground chamber, Devon, Rick, Evy, and Jonathan look around as all the walls start to descend. Hamunaptra was collapsing. Lord Thantos notices this as well and felt that his time here was over.
"WE WILL FINISH THIS ANOTHER TIME. FOR NOW, I LEAVE YOU HERE TO ROT WITHIN THESE RUINS." Lord Thanatos says
A dark corridor opens up behind Lord Thanatos as he kept his gaze on the heroes.
"FAREWELL, MORTAL FOOLS. WE WILL MEET AGAIN." Lord Thanatos says
Having said that, Lord Thanatos turns away from the group and heads into the dark corridor, disappearing into the darkness as it closes. Devon de-summons Soul Calibur from his hand as Rick, Evy, and Jonathan rush over to him. They glance up at the descending ceiling as everything crumbles around them and took this opportunity to leave.
"Time to go." Rick says
Not wasting any time, they began to make a run for the exit. As they head up the stairs to the bridge across the moat, Jonathan accidently trips and the Book of Amun-Ra slides out of his grip, across the ground, and falls into the detritus moat, disappearing into the black water. Evy stops upon noticing this and was flabbergasted.
"You lost the book! Jonathan, I can't believe-" Evy exclaims
Devon and Rick run back and grab Evy.
"Evy! C'mon!" Devon says
Beni scampers down a tunnel as the ceiling lowers to the ground. It started to get so low that Beni had to crouch down just to get across. He saw that the doorway infront of him was starting to close. So, he drops the bag of treasure in his hand and heads under the doorway as it closes.
Devon, Rick, Evy, and Jonathan run through the corridors as sand pours in all around them and make it into the treasure chamber. Jonathan skids to a stop and looks in wonder at all the treasure one last time.
"Couldn't we just..." Jonathan says
"No, Jonathan!" Evy says as she and Rick run back grabbing Jonathan by his arms
Devon, Rick, Evy and Jonathan run toward a sinking doorway on the far side of the room at the top of the stairs. Beni arrives in the treasure room, heading up toward the descending doorway as well, lagging behind the group. Devon makes it first through underneath the doorway, then Rick, Evy and Jonathan behind him. Rick was about to head out until he heard Beni call out to him.
"O'Connell! Wait!" Beni cries out
Rick turns around and saw Beni crouched down heading toward him. Although he hated Beni's guts for his betrayals and everything he did, he was still a hero. The ceiling in the collapsing doorway was now very low and Rick got down on his stomach, stretching his right-hand out in an effort to save his somewhat former friend.
"C'mon!" Rick says
"Please! Please!" Beni cries out
"C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!" Rick says reaching his hand out to Beni
Beni tries to reach the doorway, but it was too late. Rick yanks his hand back just as the ceiling comes down onto the floor, sealing the doorway.
"Good-bye, Beni." Rick says
Unable to do anything more for Beni, Rick runs out to catch up with the others as he heads for the surface.
Having failed to get through the doorway in time, Beni quickly crawls back out and heads back down the stairs as the ceiling comes down behind him. He stands up and looks around to try and find another way out, but all the doorways finish closing. The ceiling then descends down on the mirror that gave light to the room, crushing it underneath and shattering the reflective glass in the mirror. The chamber fell into near pitch black darkness. The only thing that lit the chamber now was Beni's torch.
Beni looks around as he was now trapped. He turns around to his right and a carnivorous scarab appears, standing on a statue's head as it stared at him, chittering menacingly. Beni waves his flickering torch at the scarab to stave it off and backs away. Then, swarms of scarabs, appearing in the dozens scurry into the chamber. Beni looks on with a horrified expression and tries to stave them off with his torch.
"Shewsh bac! Shewsh bac!" Beni says in Hungarian waving his torch at the scarabs
The scarabs began to surround Beni as he stood in the middle of the chamber in a small circle around the swarm of bugs. The Hungarian man trembled and whimpered in fear as he held his torch close to him. Soon enough, his torch quickly dies out and the chamber now went completely pitch black. The flesh-eating bugs swarm Beni and devour him alive while he lets out a loud, terrified scream.
Now reaching the surface, Devon, Rick, Evy, and Jonathan race through the ruins as everything collapses and explodes around them. They dodge large pillars of stone as they fall toward them and a sinking crevice drops out right behind them, chasing them out through the front gates. They soon make it down the ramp along with the stray camels as more of the ruins crash down behind them and head out to a safe distance away from Hamunaptra as it comes crashing down in a massive series of dusty explosions, disappearing in a gigantic cloud of sand and dust.
Devon, Rick, Evy and Jonathan stand in the middle of the plateau, standing next to two camels as they breathe a sigh of relief. Suddenly, a bandaged hand grabs Jonathan by his right-shoulder. Jonathan jumps with fright and quickly turns around as does Devon, Rick, and Evy. It turned out to be Ardeth, who had also escaped and survived astride a camel.
"Oh! Thank you! Thank you very much!" Jonathan says rubbing his chest to calm his beating heart
"You have earned the respect and gratitude of me and my people." Ardeth says
"Oh, it was nothing." Jonathan says
"May Allah smile upon you always." Ardeth says
Ardeth looks toward Devon.
"Good luck on your journey, Keyblade Wielder. Perhaps our paths will cross again." Ardeth says
"I'm looking forward to it, my friend. Farewell." Devon says
Devon gives Ardeth a two-fingered salute and he returns it. Ardeth gives his own salute placing his right-hand on his lips and then up on his forehead. Jonathan tried to repeat the salute.
"And... yourself." Jonathan says
The Medjai warrior clicks his tongue and rides away on his camel back to his people, leaving the heroes behind with their camels.
"Stay out of trouble." Rick says
"Great. He's just... leaving us here. Well... I guess we go home empty-handed... again." Jonathan says
Rick looks toward Evy.
"I wouldn't say that." Rick says
Evy wraps her arms around Rick's neck and the two share a passionate kiss. Devon smiles at the romantic moment while Jonathan rolled his eyes displeased.
"Oh, please." Jonathan says
As Devon watched Rick and Evy kiss each other, he could see his mother and father kiss each other in place of them. Devon was surprised by this, but nonetheless, he smiled even more.
Jonathan walks over to a camel and grabs it's reins.
"How 'bout you, darling? Would you like a little kissy wissy?" Jonathan asks
The camel lowers it's head down to Jonathan and groans in his face, releasing the terrible stench of it's breath, which Jonathan waves his right-hand away in disgust. Devon saw this and he laughed. He had been on one heck of an adventure with the Carnahans and O'Connell, but now it was his turn to leave. He had his own adventure to go on and his own task to complete.
"Well, it's been nice going across Egypt with you, but as Ardeth said, I have my own journey to get on with." Devon says
"Well, we all wish you the best of luck, Devon. It has been an absolute pleasure and a grand adventure having you with us." Evy says
Evy walks over to Devon and gives him a hug and a small kiss on his right-cheek.
"Thank you for everything." Evy says
Devon nods his head.
"Don't mention it." Devon says
Rick walks over and extends his right-hand to Devon, who happily accepts and shakes his hand.
"Don't be a stranger." Rick says
"Heh heh. I'll try not to." Devon chuckles with a smile
Rick, Evy, and Jonathan climbs up onto their two camels as they prepared to head out. Evy rode with Rick, sitting behind him with her arms wrapped around stomach while Jonathan rode on another camel. The trio look over back at Devon, who waves them good-bye with a two-fingered salute, then they ride off into the orange sunset. As Devon watches them go, he saw a shiny trinket sticking out the saddlebag and noticed that the camel Rick and Evy rode on had treasure in the satchel courtesy of Beni.
"Heh. Something tells me they won't be going empty-handed." Devon says
As he stood in the desert dunes, a large, circular section of the sky disappears in a shattering glass effect, revealing the sleeping keyhole in the orange twilight sky. Soul Calibur appears in Devon's right-hand in a flash of blue light, reacting to the presence of the keyhole. A pure aura envelopes Devon's body and his crystal Keyblade begins to shine brightly with its benevolent light. Devon aims his Keyblade up at the keyhole and a beam of light shoots out, striking the keyhole. The keyhole shines brightly and engulfs Devon with its light as he leaves the Kingdom of Pharaohs behind and continues his journey.
Author's Note: So, that wraps up Devon's journey in The Mummy. Devon, Rick and Jonathan manage to save Evy and send Imhotep back to the underworld with the help of Ardeth Bay. Devon fights off against Lord Thanatos, but he escapes before the ruins of Hamunaptra collapse on them. Our heroes manage to escape the ruins, except Beni, who is now scarab food. Devon says farewell to Rick, Evy, Jonathan, and Ardeth and continues his journey. Hope you all enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts crossover with The Mummy. Sorry that this chapter took so long. There was a lot to do with this one, but I can now breathe a sigh of relief that it's finally done! I know that many of you have been wanting me to update my stories sooner and I'm getting a lot of it in reviews, but as I'm sure we all know, putting chapters into detail like this requires lots of work. Believe me. There are stories I follow that I would like updated too and they take even longer than I do with my stories. So, anyhow, where will Devon's adventure take him now?
