Devon arrives in the Pokémon World on a grassy area near the sea, which had some small hills here and there. He takes a few steps forward, the grass crunching with each step under his feet, and stands up on a hill, placing his hands on his waist as he gazes out at the blue waters that stretched out toward the horizon. It was a nice, tall view as he stood near the edge of a cliff. But as he stared out at the sea, Devon couldn't help but feel that there was some sort of familiarity to this world. Almost like he had been here before. Maybe it was a world he had already visited in the past. Until he would see it's inhabitants, there was no way to be sure.
"Hmm... I wonder what world this is. It feels kinda... familiar." Devon says
Devon scans the waters down below, hoping he might see something. After several seconds of searching, he soon caught a glimpse of movement along the water. It was a Pokémon, a Lapras swimming with several others of it's kind as they sang happily together with their voices.
"Those are Lapras! Then, this must be Ash's world. The Pokémon World." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder turns and looks around at the surrounding environment, which had small cliffs, small rolling hills, and a few trees, with one question probing his mind.
"But why is it a sleeping world?" Devon asks
Before he could ponder more about it, a creature flies up over the cliff behind Devon, causing him to quickly turn around and look up. This was not a Pokémon. It was a Dream Eater. A Nightmare Ryu Dragon, which hovers above the young teen and lets out a roar, causing three more to appear in flashes of darkness. Devon jumps away and lands down on a flat stretch of land. Several more Dream Eaters appear behind Devon, which made him turn to face them. These were Sir Kyroos, Fin Fatales, Woeflowers, and Electricorns.
Fin Fatales were piranha-like Dream Eaters with an ichthyic appearance. They had mouths full of sharp teeth, two small horns jutting out from under it's jaw, a large horn in the center of it's forehead, two front fins and two smaller fins toward the back, a fin consisting of four horns running along it's back with ridges in between them, and a large blade-like tail fin. It's Nightmare Dream Eater symbol was located between it's eyes.
Electricorns were unicorn-like Dream Eaters that had lightning bolts on their bodies, making up their horns, manes, and tails. Their Nightmare Dream Eater symbol was located on their lower neck.
"And, of course, Dream Eaters show up to ambush me. Again. It's like I got a target on me or something." Devon says
One of the Ryu Dragons shoots a fireball from it's mouth at the Keyblade Wielder, but he jumps back with a backflip, flipping over the Dream Eaters behind him. Devon lands crouched down on the ground and rises up as the group of Dream Eaters stalked towards him. Getting into his stance, Devon stands his ground, ready to face the dark creatures.
Not far from where Devon was, Ash Ketchum and his Pokémon partner, Pikachu, were running across the grassy hills with his friends: Misty, the Cerulean Gym Leader, and Brock, a Pokémon Breeder and the Pewter City Gym Leader.
Ash wore his red and white hat with a green stylized 'L' on the front, a medium blue jacket with gold trim, white collar, and sleeves, worn over a dark cyan shirt. For the lower part of his outfit, Ash wore jeans with light blue cuffs, a brown belt, and black and white sneakers with red dots on both sides. On his hands, he wore green fingerless gloves with light green borders. On his back, he carried a green backpack with a yellow square label, and slings with back adjusters. This bag had two pockets and two open compartments on each side. The main pocket was delimited by a black zip fastener, while the external pocket had an orange stripe on it.
Misty wore a yellow crop top and jean shorts with red suspenders. Her midriff was revealed. On her feet, she wore red, yellow, and white sneakers. She carried a red drawstring bag on her back, which she carried her baby Pokémon, Togepi.
Brock wore a green vest that had four large pockets on the front and an orange, short-sleeved shirt underneath. For the lower part of his outfit, he wore brown pants with a black belt that had a gold rectangular buckle and attached belt pockets, and blue and white sneakers. On his back, he carried a large, blue backpack with a bedroll strapped at the top.
The trio had been traveling together across the Kanto region, sharing many adventures, meeting many wonderful Pokémon, and making lots of friends. And now, their travels have brought them here. Ash, Brock, and Misty soon stop on a hill and gaze out at the sea, admiring the spectacular view.
"Pika!" Pikachu gasps in amazement
"Wow." Ash, Brock, and Misty gasp in unison
"I can smell the sea!" Misty says
"Togepi!" Togepi squeals happily
"The view is great. Why don't we have lunch here?" Brock says looking right at his friends
"All right!" Ash exclaims happily jumping up and thrusting his left-hand in the air
Pikachu climbs up onto Ash's right-shoulder and he giggles. Then, Ash's stomach growls and the Pokémon Trainer puts his hands over it.
"Man, am I starving." Ash says
"Even after extra helpings at the Pokémon Center this morning?" Misty says placing her hands on her hips
"That was breakfast! This is lunch!" Ash says
"Pika Pika." Pikachu says
"You can't battle on an empty stomach, right? Eating is part of training." Brock says
"Oh, yeah! You said it! That's our Brock!" Ash says
"Pikachu!" Pikachu says
"Just be sure to help us set up the table." Misty says
Ash looks over at Misty and smiles.
"Sure! I'm all over it!" Ash says nodding his head
Before the trio could get started on setting up their spot, Misty notices something off the corner of her eye, down to her right.
"Hey! What's going on over there?" Misty asks
Ash, Pikachu, and Brock follow Misty's gaze and they saw Devon below them in the flat area, backing away from the Dream Eaters as they stalked closer to him.
"Oh, no! He's in trouble!" Ash exclaims
"What are those things? Are they Pokémon?" Misty asks
"They don't look like any Pokémon I've seen before." Brock says
"We gotta help him!" Ash says
"Pika!" Pikachu says in agreement
"Wait! Look!" Brock says
The trio look down at Devon and they watch as he stretches his right-hand out. In a bright flash of blue light, his trusted crystal Keyblade: Soul Calibur appears in his hand, and his two Spirit Dream Eaters, Ryu Dragon and Tyranto Rex appear at his sides, ready to fight alongside him. Devon swings his Keyblade over to his right-side and gets into his stance and readies himself for a fight against the dark Dream Eaters. Ash, Pikachu, Brock, and Misty were amazed by what they saw.
"Whoa!" Ash exclaims
"Pika!" Pikachu gasps in amazement
"What is that?" Ash asks
"It looks like a sword, but it's shaped like a key." Misty says
"A sword shaped like a key. Hmm..." Brock says
Brock stares long and hard at Devon's Keyblade, feeling as though he had heard about it before. Soon, a surprised expression formed on his face as the realization hit him.
"No way! It can't be!" Brock exclaims
"What is it, Brock?" Misty asks looking at the Pokémon Breeder
"I think... I think he's a Keyblade Wielder!" Brock says
"Pika?" Pikachu says cocking it's head to the right in confusion
"Huh? A Keyblade Wielder? What's that?" Ash says confused with the term
"I've heard about them in legend. They're powerful warriors capable of performing many great deeds for the world, helping both people and Pokémon when there was trouble. They were peacekeepers, heroes, guardians of the Universe, said to be imbued with incredible magic. There used to be so many of them, but they all vanished a very long time ago. No one knows how or why. They just went extinct." Brock says
The trio glance back down at Devon as he and his Spirit Dream Eaters charged at the Nightmares, attacking together. Ash kept his eye on Devon as he watched him fight the dark creatures as he cut through them one by one with his crystal Keyblade. So many questions went through his head. Who was he? Was Devon the last Keyblade Wielder in existence? Were there others like him? Ash was actually curious to see what Devon and his Spirits could do. So, he restrained himself from going down to help him, at least, for the moment.
Two Fin Fatales shoot sharp spines through their horns at Devon, who deflects the projectiles away by spinning his crystal Keyblade. In retaliation, Devon aims Soul Calibur at the two Dream Eaters and shoots a beam of light, taking them both out. A Woeflower stretches it's arms out into long whips and swings them at Devon. The Keyblade Wielder leans his body down and to the right, dodging the first whip strike, jumps and spin-flips to the left, evading the second strike, then leaps over the third strike with a backflip. Landing back on his feet, Devon stretches his left-hand toward the Woeflower, ensnaring it with telekinetic force, and pulls it toward him. Once it was close enough, he swings his Keyblade at the Dream Eater, taking it out with a left slash. A Ryu Dragon swoops down to attack Devon, but he leaps up and strikes it with a left spiraling slash, then slams it down to the ground with Soul Calibur raised over his right-shoulder. An Electricorn charges at Devon and tries to ram it's lightning bolt horn at him. The young teen quickly hops back, dodging the attack, and counters with a thrusting strike, defeating the dark creature right on the spot. Targeting another Electricorn on his right, Devon jumps toward it and puts it down with a leaping strike. Two Sir Kyroos come at Devon from the left and swing their cattail blades at him, attacking together. Turning to the oncoming Dream Eaters, he parries their attacks by holding Soul Calibur left and right, then cuts them down with two quick slashes.
Ryu Dragon grabs a Sir Kyroo in it's jaws, shakes it around a bit, then tosses it aside to the right. Two more winged frog Nightmares approach the dragon-like Spirit to attack from behind, only to get swatted away by a sweep of the Ryu Dragon's tail. A Woeflower spins it's arms like a propeller and charges at the Spirit, but the Ryu Dragon breathes a stream of fire at the plant-like Nightmare, sending it ablaze and destroying the dark creature before it even reached it. An Electricorn tries to attack the Ryu Dragon from the left, using it's horn to shoot thunderbolts at it. The dragon Spirit jumps left, dodging the first bolt, and jumps right to evade the second before shooting a fireball from it's mouth at the Electricorn, taking it out. A Nightmare Ryu Dragon attacks it's Spirit counterpart from the right, tackling it to the ground. Then, it leaps onto the downed dragon-like Spirit and tries to bite it with it's jaws. The benevolent Ryu Dragon kicks it's evil twin off using it's hind legs and rolls back onto it's feet, then leaps up into the air and dives down on it's evil counterpart with a somersault, smashing it into the ground.
Tyranto Rex stomps it's right-foot down on a Sir Kyroo, crushing it to dust, then grabs a Fin Fatale in it's jaws and bites it's sharp teeth down on the fish-like Nightmare. Two Electricorns charge at the Tyranto Rex to attack it, but they were swatted away by a wide sweep of it's large tail. A third Electricorn charges at the Tyranto Rex from the front, only to be knocked aside with a sweep of it's head. Two Ryu Dragons rush up to the large dinosaur Spirit and jump onto it's body, clawing and biting away at it. The Tyranto Rex thrashes it's body around, trying to throw off the dragon-like Nightmares, roaring loudly. Eventually, the dinosaur Spirit grabs one of the dragon Nightmares by it's tail and throws it aside. Then, it throws off the other Ryu Dragon from it's back, turns around and snatches it in it's jaws, crunching down on the dark creature until it vanishes in a puff of darkness. Three Ryu Dragons fly toward the Tyranto Rex to attack it, but the dinosaur Spirit lets out a mighty roar, blowing the Nightmares away with it's loud voice.
Three Sir Kyroos and Fin Fatales surround the Keyblade Wielder, but before they could attack, Devon swings his crystal Keyblade with two magic-infused slashes. He swings Soul Calibur with a wide, sweeping slash, spinning left and summoning walls of flames to swirl around him, roasting the Fin Fatales, then he performs another sweeping slash, spinning right and summoning walls of cold frost, freezing the Sir Kyroos in ice. Four Ryu Dragons fly up and breath jets of fire down at Devon, who shields himself from the flames using Reflect, holding Soul Calibur up horizontally infront of him and encasing himself inside a spherical barrier of light. The flames in bounce off the barrier, flying off in multiple directions. In a flash of light, the barrier disperses with several splashes of light, stunning the dragon-like Dream Eaters. Seizing his chance, Devon raises his crystal Keyblade into the air, summoning thunderbolts to strike down on the Ryu Dragons, vaporizing them into oblivion.
"He actually fights pretty well." Brock says impressed
"Did you see that? He used Fire, Ice, and Electricity-type moves, almost like a Pokémon." Misty says
Devon turns to the couple remaining Dream Eaters and holds Soul Calibur our infront of him. A bright light engulfs the crystal Keyblade as it changes into it's Crystal Staff form. Ash, Brock, and Misty were even more astounded when they saw this.
"Wow." The Pokémon Trio say in amazement
The young teen spins his staff around infront of him, twirling it in his right-hand. He soon grips it with both hands and gets back into his stance, holding the staff over on his right-side with the head pointed at the Dream Eaters.
Making the first move, Devon swings his staff left at a Sir Kyroo, right at a Fin Fatale, and down on a Ryu Dragon. Two Woeflowers spin their arms like propellers and charge at Devon, attacking together. The young teen performs a low sweeping strike with his staff, knocking the two plant-like Dream Eaters off their feet. An Electricorn charges at Devon and swings it's horned head at him, only to miss as he ducks down to the right. Devon counters the attack with a rising uppercut strike, hitting the unicorn-like Nightmare with the other end of his staff. Then, he drives his staff into the ground and uses it like a pole, swinging around and delivers a strong kick to the Electricorn's left-side using both legs. A Ryu Dragon on Devon's right breathes a stream of fire at him, but he counters with a stream of ice through his crystal staff, extinguishing the flames in a cloud of mist. Leaping forward through the mist, Devon attacks the dragon-like Nightmare with three rapid strikes, swinging his staff diagonally right and left before delivering a right spinning strike. He then finishes off the Ryu Dragon with a jumping strike, slamming his staff down on the dark creature. An Electricorn shoots a lightning through it's horn at Devon, but he absorbs the attack through the crystal orb on his staff as he held it up over his head. Devon closes in on the unicorn-like Nightmare and hits it with three thrusting strikes before destroying it with an overhead strike, swinging his staff downward on the Electricorn. Turning to the last remaining Dream Eaters, which were three Sir Kyroos, two Fin Fatales, an Electricorn, and four Ryu Dragons, Devon holds his crystal staff vertically infront of him. The staff begins to glow brightly with it's benevolent light as he charged up his attack. He soon holds his shining staff over his head and strikes down on the ground, unleashing a shockwave of pure light which disintegrates the Dream Eaters.
Devon stood up, removes the head of his crystal staff from the ground, and holds it at his right-side, letting out a sigh of relief. But just when he thought it was over, more Dream Eaters appeared behind him, causing him and his Ryu Dragon and Tyranto Rex to turn around and face them. These were Meow Wows, KO Kabutos, Komory Bats, Hebby Reps, and Kooma Pandas. Devon grunts and holds his crystal staff behind his back as he gets back into his stance.
On the hill above Devon, Ash watched as the new Dream Eaters appeared and he was not stand by and watch anymore. It was time for him and his Pokémon to leap into action. He spins his hat around his head and puts on a determined look on his face.
"All right! That's it! I'm not gonna stand around and do nothing! I'm going to help him out!" Ash says
The young trainer looks over at his partner Pokémon on his right-shoulder, who shared a similar expression.
"Pikachu! Let's go!" Ash says
"Pika!" Pikachu says nodding in acknowledgement
With courage in their hearts, Ash and Pikachu run down the hill to give Devon a hand while Misty and Brock watch them go.
Devon and his Spirits stood their ground as the new Nightmares stalked toward them, bracing themselves for one to make the first move. Devon was starting to get exhausted from all the fighting, and he was panting for breath. But before either side could make a move, a voice sounds off in the air.
"Pikachu!"
A cascade of thunderbolts strikes down on the Nightmares, vaporizing them into oblivion. Devon looks away and shields himself with his left-arm. A few seconds later, he looks back and saw that the Dream Eaters were gone. He de-summons Soul Calibur from his hand and looks up to see Pikachu falling towards him.
"Whoa!" Devon exclaims
Devon quickly catches the yellow mouse Pokémon in his hands.
"Gotcha!" Devon says
Letting out a sigh, Devon holds Pikachu in his hands and looks down at it while Pikachu glances up at him with a smile on it's face.
"Pika." Pikachu greets happily
"Pikachu..." Devon says
As he stared at Pikachu, memories went through Devon's mind. Visions of their adventure together. Their first meeting at the docks in Vermilion City when he and his friends fought the Heartless that attacked them. Their journey to the Isle of Light, which at the time had been corrupted by Lord Thanatos. And their epic battles against the Heartless and the Dark Keyblade Master himself. It felt like it all happened so long ago. Soon, Devon was snapped out of his thoughts when Ash called out to him.
"Hey! Are you alright?" Ash asks
"Huh?" Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder blinked his eyes and looked up to see Ash standing only a few feet away from him.
"Ash..." Devon says
Now he was staring at Ash upon seeing him again. Devon noticed that he was wearing different clothes than the ones he wore when they first met. This must've been what he looked like before he met him when he started of his journey to be a Pokémon Master. Although his appearance was different, no doubt he was still the same great, brave, heroic, high-spirited trainer he had met before. Devon shifts his gaze down at Pikachu as it stared at him with a confused expression.
"Pika?" Pikachu says
As he glanced down at the mouse Pokémon, Devon remembered something. Ash and Pikachu wouldn't know who he was since this was a past version of the Pokémon World. It saddened him a bit at first, but nevertheless the Keyblade Wielder smiled as he glances back up at Ash.
"Yeah." Devon says
Devon sets Pikachu down on the grass and rubs the mouse Pokémon's head with his right-hand. Pikachu squeals happily as he was petted by the nice human. The Keyblade Wielder rose up and walks over to the Pokémon Trainer.
"Thanks for the hand." Devon says
"No problem." Ash says
Misty and Brock descend down the hill and join Ash's side as they came to meet Devon.
"We're really glad you're okay." Misty says
"It's a good thing we ran into you." Brock says
"Yeah." Ash says
The Pokémon Trio introduce themselves to the Keyblade Wielder with Ash going first.
"My name's Ash."
Pikachu climbs up onto Ash and perches himself on his right-shoulder.
"This is my buddy, Pikachu." Ash introduces
"Pikachu!" Pikachu says with a smile
Devon glances over at Misty on his left as she introduced herself next.
"Hi. I'm Misty. I'm the Cerulean Gym Leader."
Togepi pops out of Misty's bag, revealing itself.
"Togepi." Togepi squeals happily
"Heh heh. This is Togepi." Misty giggles
Devon chuckles as he saw Togepi sticking out of her bag. Obviously, it was a Pokémon like Pikachu. But he had to admit, it was a really cute one. Devon looks over at Brock on his right as he introduces himself last.
"And I'm Brock. I'm a Pokémon Breeder and the Gym Leader of Pewter City. Pleased to meet you."
Devon smiles and shakes hands with the trio, starting with Brock first, then Misty, and finishes off with Ash.
"Likewise. I'm Devon."
The Ryu Dragon and Tyranto Rex come up to Devon's sides and they nuzzle up against his body with the dragon-like Spirit on the left and the large dinosaur Spirit on the right. The Pokémon trio were surprised when they saw the two Dream Eaters and the gazed up at the Tyranto Rex in amazement.
"Wow." Ash, Brock, and Misty say in unison
Devon looks at the friendly Spirits at his sides and he pets them gently and lovingly with his hands.
"Heh heh. Almost forgot about you guys." Devon says
"Uh, Devon? What exactly are those creatures? Are they Pokémon?" Misty asks
"Oh, these aren't Pokémon. They're Dream Eaters." Devon says patting his Tyranto Rex' snout while it let out a soft growl
"Dream Eaters?" Ash says confused with the name
"Yeah. These are Spirits. The nasty ones you saw us fight were their evil counterparts: Nightmares. Don't worry. These guys are friendly." Devon says
Pikachu climbs down from Ash's shoulder and curiously approaches the Ryu Dragon while the Spirit tilts it's head to the right like a confused dog.
"Pika?" Pikachu says in a curious tone
The Ryu Dragon inches closer to the yellow mouse and sniffs it a few times. Soon, it gives Pikachu a lick on the left-side of his face. Pikachu's face beamed with happiness as it saw how friendly the Dream Eater was.
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu exclaims happily
The Ryu Dragon let out a cheerful bark, showing that it was happy too. Pikachu climbs up onto the Spirit's back and jumps up and down as it was having fun.
Devon and the Pokémon Trio watched and they laughed. Then, the Tyranto Rex came closer to Ash, Brock, and Misty, specifically more towards Misty.
"Uh..." Misty says
The large dinosaur Spirit let out a soft, gentle growl as its head was only inches away from Misty. Then, it gives her one giant lick up along her body. Misty was a slightly bit disgusted, but nonetheless she giggled at the friendliness of the Dream Eater. Togepi squeals happily as it waves it's tiny arms up and down.
Soon, the two Spirits disappear in a flash of light, much to the confusion of the Pokémon Trio.
"Where'd they go?" Ash asks
Devon taps his chest with his right-index and middle finger, touching his heart.
"In here. Resting until they are needed again." Devon says
"Oh. Like Pokémon resting in their Pokéballs." Misty says
The Keyblade Wielder shrugs his shoulders.
"You could say that." Devon says
"Hey, Devon. We were just about to set ourselves up for some lunch. Why don't you join us?" Brock says
"Oh, yeah! You gotta try Brock's cooking! He can whip up a good meal!" Ash says feeling excited
Devon smiles and nods his head, gladly accepting their offer.
"Sounds great. I'm down for some grub." Devon says
A few minutes later, Devon, Misty, and Ash set up a table on the hill above the flat area while Brock began working on the food nearby. He had already set up the pot and was cooking some stew inside, stirring it around with a ladle. How he was able to carry around so much supplies in his bag was a complete mystery.
Devon grabs the umbrella, unfolds it, and sets it down through a slot in the middle of the table while Misty sets down the paper plates and plastic utensils. Ash sits down on one of the foldable mini chairs and lays his head down on the table, looking exhausted.
"Man, I'm out of fuel." Ash says
"But, Ash, you know we're not done!" Misty says
"So hungry. I can't move another muscle. Need food." Ash says
"Oh, come on!" Misty says
"Misty? You have to let it simmer slowly until it's just right. You can't rush stew, or Pokémon, for that matter." Brock says
"Oh?" Misty says
Misty stares at Brock for a moment, but she soon giggles.
"This lunch is going to be just perfect for you, Ash. It's my lazy boy no juice stew." Brock says
As he was leaning and resting his left-hand on the table, Devon could smell the stew from the pot and it's aroma was starting to make his mouth water.
"Mmm... Sure does smell good, Brock. I can't wait to see what it tastes like." Devon says
While everyone was waiting for the food, Pikachu played with Togepi, running around and wagging his tail while Togepi squealed happily as it chased him around and having fun. But then, Pikachu stopped and noticed something up in the sky high above them. It was a Pokémon. A Fearow, the evolved form of Spearow. But Pikachu also noticed something else. A device around it's neck, which glinted in the sunlight. It was a camera. Pikachu didn't know what to make of it as he stared up at the Fearow.
"Pika?" Pikachu says feeling curious
"So, Devon, you're a Keyblade Wielder, right?" Misty asks
The young teen turns and looks over at Misty on his left.
"Yep. Sure am." Devon says
"Are there other Keyblade Wielders like you?" Misty asks
Devon nods his head.
"Oh, yes. Quite a few." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder turns around and leans back against the table, gazing out at the sea as he thought about his friends, each of them appearing in his mind. The first person to come into mind was Sora, who had his hands behind his head and a big smile on his face.
"First, there's my best friend, Sora. Always with a smile on his face. He's got a bit of a silly side, but he's has a big heart. It's hard not to smile around him." Devon says
Devon looks over at Ash as his head was still on the table.
"You actually remind me of him, Ash." Devon says
"Really?" Ash says
"Yeah." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder glances back out at the sea as went back to his memory list of friends. Riku appears in his mind with his a small smile on his face and his right-hand in the pocket of his baggy blue pants.
"Next, there's Riku. He's usually calm and collected, but he's just as good of a friend as Sora. He's had a bit of a troubled past, but he's always looking to redeem himself. Riku fell to the darkness a while back, but now he's in control and he's using it to fight for the light, for the greater good." Devon says
Third on the list was Mickey Mouse, who had a big smile on his happy face.
"And there's Mickey. Very friendly, loyal, positive, always thinking of others. He's helped me, Sora, and Riku on several occasions." Devon says
Next, Terra, Ventus, and Aqua appeared in Devon's mind, standing together, each with a smile on their faces.
"Then, there's Terra, Ventus, Aqua. Three important people who I had forgotten about for so long. They've suffered a terrible tragedy years ago, and now they're out there somewhere. Missing. Scattered. Lost. But I intend to find them and bring them home." Devon says
The last two people that came into Devon's mind almost made him cry. A solemn expression formed on his face as he looks down.
"And... There's..." Devon says with a slightly broken voice
Devon closes his eyes and choked on his words as he tried to say them. A tear slides down his face from his right-eye as he sniffled and let out a sigh. Pikachu jumps up onto the table and looks up at the Keyblade Wielder with a sympathetic expression.
"Pika?" Pikachu says in a concerned voice
"Toge?" Togepi says also concerned
Ash, Misty, and Brock also held concerned expressions as they stared at Devon.
"Hey. What's wrong, Devon?" Misty asks
Devon rubs his face with his right-arm and cleared his throat.
"Ahem! It's the last two Keyblade Wielders. Two very important people I've kept closest to my heart: My parents." Devon says
"You're parents?" Ash says
"Before me, Sora, Riku, and Mickey ever became Keyblade Wielders, they were the first. My mother and father were devoted to their duty, protecting worlds, helping people, and defending the light. They stood out amongst the greatest heroes in the whole Universe." Devon says
"Did something happen to them?" Misty asks
Devon slowly nods his head.
"Yes. They both died when I was very young. First, it was my father. Then, it was just me and my mother until the night she died. Ever since they passed, I've been haunted by visions of their deaths, suffering torment after torment, nightmare after nightmare. I try not to let them get to me, but..." Devon says
Devon glances down at his chest and places his left-hand over it. He then grips it into a fist, fighting the sorrow and the pain it brought. Pikachu moves closer to Devon and squeezes his way under his right-arm, nuzzling the young teen and offering him comfort. Devon glances down at the yellow mouse as he looked up at him.
"Chu..." Pikachu says in a sad tone
The Keyblade Wielder smiles slightly and he rubs his hand on Pikachu's head. Ash lifts his head up and stares at Devon with a shocked look on his face. He felt really bad for him, as did Pikachu, Misty, and Brock. Rising up out of his seat, the Pokémon Trainer walks around to Devon and places his left-hand on his right-shoulder, giving him his sympathies.
"Devon, I'm so sorry." Ash says
Togepi runs up to Misty and the female trainer picks up her baby Pokémon, cradling it in her arms close to her chest as she felt sad for Devon, imagining all kinds of horrific deaths that befell his parents.
"Oh, that's terrible." Misty says
Brock walks up and places his right-hand on his left-arm, sharing his sympathy with Devon also.
"Hey. It's okay, Devon. We're here for you. Try and cheer up. Once you get a taste of my stew, you'll feel much better." Brock says
The Keyblade Wielder looks at Ash, Misty and Brock, then looks down at Pikachu, and he smiles at their emotional support, seeing how much they cared about him.
"Thanks, guys. I really appreciate the support. Sorry for feeling so melancholy. I feel so stupid. I gotta learn to stop doing that." Devon says
Devon laughs at himself for acting so stupidly infront of his new friends, and the Pokémon Trio laugh with him.
"You know, I do have something that belonged to my mother. Something I keep close to my heart all the time." Devon says
Glancing down at his neck, Devon holds up his chain necklace, showing it to Ash, Misty, and Brock as he held the blue crystal Kingdom Hearts sigil in his right-hand. Pikachu climbed up onto Devon's right-shoulder to get a look at the necklace.
"Pika..." Pikachu says amazed
"Oh, wow. What a nice necklace." Misty says
"My mother gave this to me before she died. Something to remember her by." Devon says
A faint image of Devon's mother, Shara, appeared in his mind as he stared at the crystal heart. She looked right at him with a loving smile on her face as light surrounded her.
"She was very beautiful and she had the voice of an angel. When I was young, she used to soothe me to sleep with this very nice lullaby. I don't exactly remember how it goes, only that it was a nice song. My mother saw the beauty of life in everything. In people, in the world, in all living creatures, and she fought hard to protect everything and everyone she cared for. She was the best mom in the whole Universe." Devon says
"Gee. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost my mom." Ash says
"Pikachu..." Pikachu says
"I'm sure your mother loved you very much, Devon." Misty says
"I know." Devon says
Devon closes his hand around the crystal heart and a determined expression forms on his face.
"That's why I'm going to do her proud." Devon says
Suddenly, a man walks in on the scene, approaching the Keyblade Wielder and the Pokémon Trio. This was Raymond.
Raymond was an arrogant, impulsive man and a Pokémon Trainer who was always looking for a challenge.
He had tan skin, dreadlocks, and olive green eyes.
He wore clothes that had a traditional pirate-like look: a red bandana that had a skull and crossbones on it, a yellow overcoat, light purple pants, white gloves, and dark brown boots.
Devon, Ash, Pikachu, Misty, and Brock turn to Raymond as he looks up and points his right-hand at them, setting his sights specifically on Ash. Right now, he had only one goal in mind: Find Ash Ketchum and engage him in a Pokémon battle.
"Hey! You there! Little boy! I'm looking for a Pokémon Trainer named Ash from Pallet Town. You know him?" Raymond says
"Yeah. He's me." Ash says
A grin came upon Raymond's face as he stared at Ash. He had found his target and he was ready for a battle.
"Heh heh. I hear you're pretty good. Let's have a match! Unless you're afraid to lose!" Raymond says reaching into the left-side of his jacket and taking out a Pokéball in his right-hand
Ash was excited at the prospect of a Pokémon battle and he gladly accepted Raymond's challenge, running around the table to the edge of the hill the group was on. He takes out one of his Pokéballs, each the size of a ping-pong ball, which he had kept stored inside his jacket, and holds it in his right-hand.
"Ha! I'm afraid you're gonna lose this one! If you want a battle, then bring it on!" Ash says
"What happened to the guy who couldn't move a muscle?" Misty asks in a sarcastic tone
"I can have a Pokémon battle before breakfast! Maybe two!" Ash says
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu says excited
"Heh. Guess somebody got his second wind." Devon says crossing his arms
"That's progress. But you're forgetting one thing. You're battling before lunch." Brock says
Devon was actually excited himself. This was the first time he would actually get to watch a Pokémon battle. He had already seen Ash's Pokémon in action against Lord Thanatos and the Heartless, but now he would see them in battle against other Pokémon. Devon looks at Ash on his right and smiles, seeing the determination in his eyes.
"Ash must really love Pokémon battles. Guess it explains why he's always in such high spirits." Devon says in his thoughts
Even though he was excited about the Pokémon battle, Devon couldn't help but feel like he had experienced this sensation before. But how? He's never witnessed a Pokémon battle before. It was strange. His mind was soon taken off these things when he glances back at Ash as he prepared to send out his Pokémon. Ash's presses the center button on his Pokéball and it grows to the size of a baseball. With battle-readiness in his eyes, Ash throws his Pokéball into the air and sends out his first Pokémon: Bulbasaur onto the lower field.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaur roars
Raymond throws his Pokéball up and sends out his Pokémon: a Donphan, which scratches the ground with it's right-foreleg like a rhino ready to charge.
"Donphan!" Donphan roars
The battle begins with Raymond making the first move, pointing ahead with his left-hand and commanding his Donphan to attack.
"Donphan, use Rollout!" Raymond commands
Donphan curls up into a ball and rolls toward Bulbasaur. Moving at fast speeds, the elephant-like Pokémon smashes into the frog-like Pokémon, knocking it into the air.
"Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip!" Ash commands
Bulbasaur lands on his feet and slides to a stop. Two vines emerge from the bulb on his back, and heads straight towards Donphan.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur roars
Donphan rolls up along the vines like a track and jumps up into the air.
"Use Hyper Beam!" Raymond commands
"Don-phan!" Donphan roars
Donphan uncurls and shoots an orange beam of powerful energy from it's mouth down at Bulbasaur, who runs to escape the attack. The blast knocks Bulbasaur back over to Ash's side, but he lands okay without a scratch.
"Solarbeam!" Ash commands
Bulbasaur stands it's ground and builds up energy for it's attack, gathering light from the sun into it's bulb, which starts to glow with a yellow light.
"Stop it with Hidden Power!" Raymond commands
The elephant-like Pokémon shoots a light blue ball of energy from it's mouth, sending it towards the frog-like Pokémon. Having absorbed enough energy, Bulbasaur jumps up into the air, dodging Donphan's attack, and fires a bright yellow beam of light from it's bulb down at Donphan. The Solarbeam lands a direct hit to the ground-type Pokémon, dishing out tremendous super effective damage, kicking up a large cloud of smoke. When the smoke clears, Donphan is revealed to be standing, but it soon faints and collapses on it's stomach with dizzy dials in it's eyes. Raymond drops down to his knees and pounds the ground with his fists in frustration. Devon and Ash jump down the small hill and run over to Bulbasaur to congratulate the Seed Pokémon on it's victory. The two boys kneel down to the blue-green frog and pet him affectionately.
"Great job, Bulbasaur! You did it!" Ash says
Having lost against Ash in the first part of the battle, Raymond sends out his second Pokémon: Machamp, the Superpower Pokémon, who flexed it's muscles. Ash calls Bulbasaur back and takes out another Pokéball. He throws it into the air and brings out his next Pokémon: Squirtle.
"Squirtle!" Squirtle says ready for battle
Devon stayed close by with Pikachu and Bulbasaur, sitting on his left-knee in between the two Pokémon and petting the friendly creatures with his hands as he watched the battle with them.
Again, Raymond made the first move as he orders his Machamp to attack.
"Go, Machamp! Mega Punch!" Raymond commands
"Ma-champ!" Machamp says
Machamp dashes toward Squirtle and throws a punch with it's upper arm as it glowed with a white light. The tiny turtle leaps up over the humanoid creature and jumps off it's head, but was kicked away by Machamp's right-leg.
"Now, Mega Kick!" Raymond commands
"Champ!" Machamp says
Machamp turns around and attacks Squirtle again with a sliding kick using both it's legs, which glowed with a metallic blue light. The blue turtle leaps over the large humanoid and lands over on Ash's side.
"Squirtle! Bubblebeam!" Ash commands
Squirtle blows multiple clear bubbles from it's mouth with great speed, landing numerous hits to Machamp. The muscular, four-armed Pokémon staggers backwards until it falls down on it's back defeated with dizzy dial eyes. Raymond was now fuming with anger as he threw his arms down and grinded his teeth. That was two wins for Ash and his Pokémon. Ash jumps up and thrusts his left-hand into the air in victory. Squirtle runs back to his trainer and leaps into his arms with a happy smile on his face. Devon runs up to Ash's right and pets Squirtle's head with his right-hand. The blue turtle's face beamed with happiness as he looked over at the new human on his left.
In an act of desperation, Raymond takes a handful of his Pokéballs, three to be exact, and throws them out, sending out his Pokémon: Venomoth, Pinsir, and Drowzee, all at once. The three Pokémon all charge together, but before they could do anything, Pikachu leaps into action, jumps up into the air from Ash's left-shoulder, and uses his signature move.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu says
Pikachu unleashes a devastating Thunderbolt on the three Pokémon, taking them all out in one hit. The yellow electricity covered the entire area, lasting for several seconds. And with that, the battle was over. Venomoth, Pinsir, and Drowzee laid on the ground defeated with dizzy dials in their eyes. Raymond stared in shock with his mouth open until he finally screamed.
"Oh, no!" Raymond screams clutching his head with both hands
Raymond falls to his knees and starts sobbing in defeat while Ash and his Pokémon celebrated their victory.
"Yeah! We did it!" Ash exclaims happily
"Pika!" Pikachu says
Misty and Brock sat at the table having watched the whole battle and were already eating their food, which was now more than ready.
"Well, that was shockingly quick." Misty says
"Shocking that Ash moved so fast." Brock says
"He just had a weak opponent." Misty says
"Who didn't know you can't rush a Pokémon." Brock says
Ash and his Pokémon laughed together with joy when Devon approaches Ash and gives him a pat on the right-shoulder.
"Ash, that was awesome!" Devon says
Devon turns and kneels down to Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle, congratulating them as well.
"And you guys did great too." Devon says
"Pi Pikachu!" Pikachu says
Pikachu jumps onto Devon's left-knee and climbs up his left-arm onto his shoulder. He then moves across his back, perches himself on his right-shoulder, then looks down at his fellow Pokémon.
"Pi Pika Pikachu!" Pikachu says
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur says
"Squirtle!" Squirtle says
Pikachu nuzzles himself up against Devon's face, giving him more of his caring affection. Bulbasaur and Squirtle followed the yellow mouse's example and they come up close to Devon. Bulbasaur nuzzles himself against his right-thigh and Squirtle cuddles up to his other leg. The Keyblade Wielder looks down at the Pokémon as they glanced up at him with kind, happy faces, then he looks at Pikachu on his shoulder, who shared a similar expression. He couldn't help but smile and chuckle at their loving affection. Devon pets Bulbasaur and Squirtle's heads with his hands, feeling their smooth skin, returning the love. Ash watched what his Pokémon were doing and he felt happy for Devon. Pikachu, Bulbasaur, and Squirtle must've sensed all the pain and sadness the poor Keyblade Wielder had in his heart, and they wanted to do everything to relieve him of that pain.
Unknown to the group, they were being watched by a third party on a nearby cliff. It was the Team Rocket Trio: Jessie, James, and Meowth, who observed everything through their electronic binoculars.
"There's another credit on Pikachu's charge account. It's getting more skilled by the minute." James says
"We've got to get our paws on that Pikachu for Team Rocket, no matter what!" Meowth says
Jessie and James both nod their heads in agreement.
"Although, it wouldn't be such a bad idea to grab a little bite to eat, would it?" Meowth says
"We didn't come here to steal a meal." Jessie says
"I'd settle for a taste of that Pika-chow. Just look at that spread!" James says
Down below, the Keyblade Wielder and the Pokémon Trio along with all their Pokémon enjoyed themselves to a nice luncheon. Joining in on the feast was Ash's Charizard, Misty's Psyduck, and Brock's Vulpix, who ate their Pokémon food from bowls set down on the grass. Pikachu ate his food next to Ash and Devon on the table while Bulbasaur, and Squirtle ate their food from bowls along with the rest of the Pokémon.
"Hmm... I'm starving." Meowth says looking depressed
"I've got a frying pan. I can cook something." Jessie says holding up a frying pan in her left-hand
"Thanks, but the last time you cooked, you wiped eight of my nine lives. Besides, without something to fry, it's little more than a round anvil made out of iron!" Meowth says
The stomachs of the Team Rocket Trio growled loudly, causing them to glance down and sigh. They immediately went back to their spying and they noticed Devon sitting with the group.
"Hmph! Looks like the twerps made themselves a new friend. Wonder what kind of Pokémon he's got." Jessie says
"Maybe he's got some really rare Pokémon." James says
"Ooh. Gorgeous." Jessie says
"I ain't too sure about that. It don't look like he got any Pokémon on him." Meowth says
"He don't look like no Pokemon Trainer either." James says
"If that's the case, any person who don't have any valuable Pokémon may just as well be deadweight!" Jessie says
Meowth takes a closer look at Devon with his binoculars and saw something glinting light off his neck.
"Hey, wait... Look you guys." Meowth says
Jessie and James followed Meowth's gaze and they zoomed in on Devon. Like him, they too saw the glint of light coming from his neck. Zooming in further, it was Devon's silver chain necklace with the light shining from the crystal Kingdom Hearts sigil.
"Well, there's something that looks valuable. A crystal necklace!" Jessie says
"Hmm... Say, that ain't a bad looking jewel. It's shaped like a heart. Must be a diamond, or a precious sapphire. It's definitely got to be worth a fortune!" Meowth says
As they were staring at Devon's necklace, the troublesome trio noticed something else. A glint of light on Devon's right-hand, reflecting off his blue crystal Celestial Ring.
"Hey. Check out that ring. It's made of crystal too!" James says
"Look at the shining dazzle on that beauty!" Meowth says
"A crystal necklace and a crystal ring. That's two for one!" Jessie says smiling
"Double the score!" James says smiling
"Double the money!" Meowth says smiling
"Bling bling ka-ching!" The Team Rocket Trio say in unison
Jessie, James, and Meowth chuckled evilly with greedy thoughts in their minds, then went back to their spying.
Down in the camp, Devon enjoyed himself to spoonfuls of Brock's stew. It was one of the most delicious foods he had ever tasted. Ash sat next to him on his right, taking bites of his roll of bread. Pikachu sat down on top of the table next to Ash and ate his bowl of Pokémon food, one medium-sized pellet at a time. Misty hand fed Togepi some Pokémon food she made especially for it. And Brock had his own plate of stew.
As the group enjoyed their lunch together, the Fearow soared high above them, squawking loudly. Around it's neck was a collar equipped with a camera, which zoomed in on the heroes down below.
Elsewhere, in a dark room of a black palace, the Clone Pokémon, Mewtwo observed the live footage of the heroes through a large holographic video screen above him. With him was the evil wraith-like being, the Dark Echo, acting as Mewtwo's guide, and a mysterious woman who served them both as their attendant.
This woman wore a frilled long-sleeved dress and a hat. She held a calm expression and had purple eyes.
They observed the heroes each in turn as the lady attendant identified them and provided information to her masters. First on the list was Ash and Pikachu.
"That is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town." The lady attendant says
Next, Misty appears on screen with her Togepi.
"With him are Misty, the Cerulean City Gym Leader..." The lady attendant says
Then, Brock appears on screen.
"...and Brock, the Pewter City Gym Leader." The lady attendant says
The screen changes, showing Devon as he sat next to Ash. The Dark Echo narrowed it's glowing red eyes upon seeing the young teen.
"This young man is a Keyblade Wielder, a powerful warrior descended down from ancient times countless years ago around the same time the Universe was born. They are said to possess incredible magic and many special abilities. They are described in legends as Guardians of the Universe, and an ancient realm known as Kingdom Hearts, which they also protect." The lady attendant says
"Kingdom Hearts..." Mewtwo says
Mewtwo remembered seeing Kingdom Hearts on the mural, which also had Mew on it. Both images flashed through his mind. But why was it so significant? He was soon snapped out of his thoughts when the mysterious woman turns and looks over at her masters on her left.
"Masters? Shall we extend an invitation to these people as well?" The lady attendant asks
Mewtwo glances at the Dark Echo on his left, who silently nods his head. He then turns to to the attendant and gives her the same nod.
"As you wish, masters." The attendant says bowing her head
In one of the towers of the palace, a set of doors open to a small platform and out steps out a Dragonite with a black satchel on it's left-side. With a loud roar, the Dragonite takes to the sky, soaring at speeds faster than the speed of sound across the sea.
Soon enough, it reaches the location of the heroes. Team Rocket noticed the Dragonite first as it flies in, and they were blown away by it's incredible speed. Then, Devon, Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Brock, and the Pokémon, except Charizard, were blown over by the Dragonite as it swoops overhead, knocking the table over on it's side. The Dragonite immediately slows down, realizing it had flew past the group, and flies back around, landing infront of them as they rose back onto their feet.
"Hey. Watch where you're flying." Ash says
"It's a Dragonite." Brock says
Charizard shook his head and let out a snort. He then heard groaning and looked down and saw Devon pushing himself up off his stomach. The orange dragon Pokémon lowered his head down to the Keyblade Wielder and gave out a soft growl. Devon glanced up at Charizard seeing that he was offering to help him up. Placing his left-arm around Charizard's head, the dragon Pokémon rises up and Devon was lifted back onto his feet. The Keyblade Wielder looks up at Charizard and pets him with his left-hand, gently rubbing his head while he growls softly with comfort.
"Thanks, Charizard." Devon says
Charizard gives Devon a lick on his face, then turns to the Dragonite, responsible for causing the mess. Letting out an angry roar, Charizard attacks it using Flamethrower, breathing a stream of flames at it, much to the group's shock. Dragonite casually dodges the attack by leaning it's head to the left.
"Whoa! Hey! Charizard! Stop!" Ash exclaims
Ash quickly takes out Charizard's Pokéball and aims it at the orange dragon Pokémon, shooting a red beam of light at him and returning him inside his Pokéball. Misty giggles while Brock smiles and crosses his arms.
"Charizard never changes." Misty says
"Oh, well..." Brock says
The Dragonite reaches into it's satchel and takes out an envelope, holding it out to Ash.
"Huh? This is for me?" Ash says
Ash takes the envelope and opens it up. Inside was a black card-like device with a small round projector in the middle. The projector springs to life and a hologram of the lady attendant appears before the group, conveying a message to them.
"Greetings, Pokémon Trainers. Please forgive this surprise message from a stranger. I bear an invitation." The lady attendant says
"She's so small! So beautiful! I can't believe it!" Brock says feeling love-struck
"You have been chosen to join a select group of Pokémon Trainers at a special gathering, hosted by both my masters: two of the world's greatest Pokémon Trainers. The location: Pokémon Palace on New Island." The lady attendant says
The hologram of the mysterious woman disappears and is replaced with a holographic map.
"A chartered ferry will leave from Old Shore Warf to take you to the island this afternoon. Only trainers who present this invitation will be admitted. We ask that you RSVP, whether attending or not, by checking the box on the return card enclosed within your envelope." The lady attendant says
The aforementioned RSVP card slips out the envelope in Ash's hand and Pikachu catches it with his paws, staring at the card curiously.
"If you decide to attend, you must reply at once. My masters await you." The lady attendant says
The message ends as the mysterious woman formally bows to the heroes and the projector shuts down with her hologram vanishing in a flash of blue light.
"Uh, is there a rewind button?" Brock asks
"What do you guys think? Should we go?" Misty asks
"Of course we should! I know we should! I gotta meet her!" Brock says still love-struck
"What's with Brock?" Devon asks raising his right-eyebrow noticing Brcck's strange behavior
"Oh, he gets this way whenever he sees a pretty girl. Believe me. It's happened a dozen times on our adventures, and it's very annoying." Misty says
"I guess the world's greatest trainers wants to challenge me to a match." Ash says feeling excited
"Pika." Pikachu says
Devon, Ash, Misty, and Brock glance down at Pikachu and they saw the RSVP card in his mouth. Ash takes the card and holds it up for the others to see.
"Well, we gotta let them know right away. You gonna mark the RSVP then?" Misty says
"I sure am! Definitely!" Ash says feeling excited
Ash marks 'Yes' on the RSVP and hands it back to Dragonite, who places it back in it's satchel and pats the bag with it's large paw.
With it's task completed, Dragonite flaps it's wings and takes off into the air for it's flight back to New Island. But before it could take off completely into the sky, the large Pokémon was halted by Team Rocket, who grunted and pushed with Jessie holding her frying pan against it's head.
"Hey! It's bad manners to rush by without even a hello!" James says
"We want to know what's so special about the Twerp trio's special delivery!" Jessie says
During the scuffle, the RSVP card slips out of Dragonite's satchel and it falls onto the ground, showing the checkmark that Ash made on it. The three Team Rocket members notice the card and they stare down at it with intrigue.
"Hey, look!" Meowth says
"What's this?" Jessie asks
"Yes? To what?" James asks
Author's Note: Devon has arrived back in the Pokémon World and he is ambushed by Dream Eaters. But fear not. Ash and his friends hurry to the rescue. Devon reunites with Ash and Pikachu, despite different circumstances, and he meets his very first companions: Misty and Brock. The heroes get together for lunch and Ash battles Raymond in a Pokémon battle. Then, they get a strange invitation from an anonymous woman, who claims to serve two of the world's most greatest Pokémon Trainers. And Team Rocket is not far behind. Little do they all know that they're all walking into a deadly trap. But that won't stop our heroes on their new journey together. Next stop: New Island! For the Pokémon battle between Ash and Raymond, I recommend playing the Pokémon theme sung by Billy Crawford. But I also enjoy the new remix of the theme done by Ben Dixon and The Sad Truth.
