On New Island, everyone gathered onto the stadium battlefield with Devon, Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Brock, Nurse Joy, Corey, Neesha, and their Pokémon standing on one side, and Mewtwo, the Dark Echo, and their three Pokémon standing far across from them on the other. The shadowy wraith hovers behind Mewtwo, radiating with it's ever present aura of darkness.
"Which of you will oppose us first?" Mewtwo asks
Bruteroot takes six steps forward and lets out a battle-ready roar as he and his Trainer went up for the first part of the challenge.
"Saur!" Bruteroot roars
"I underestimated you last time, but that won't happen again!" Corey says
Mewtwo glances over at Venusaurtwo on his left and gestures his head toward the battlefield.
"Venu." Venusaurtwo growls in understanding
Both Venusaurs stomp out onto the battlefield as both sides stared each other down with serious expressions. The tension of the match high. Soon, the Pokémon battle begins with the Dark Echo's evil voice as it echoes loudly throughout the entire island.
"LeT tHe cHaLlEnGe BeGiN!" The Dark Echo bellows in a deep, demonic voice
Corey grunts and points his right-index finger forward, making the first move.
"Go, Bruteroot! Use Razor Leaf!" Corey commands
"Saur!" Bruteroot roars
Bruteroot launches multiple razor sharp leaves from the leaves on its back towards it's counterpart.
"Vine Whip." Mewtwo commands
"Saur!" Venusaurtwo roars
Two dark green vines emerge from under the leaves on Venusaurtwo's back and extend forward across the battlefield. The vines destroy each of the razor leaves with incredible speed, then stretch over to Bruteroot, wrapping themselves around his large body.
"Venusaur!" Bruteroot exclaims in panic
Bruteroot was lifted several feet high up into the air and thrown far across the battlefield, crashing onto the ground and sliding to a stop near his Trainer. Although Bruteroot was damaged by the attack, he rose back up onto his feet and roars out with it's voice, ready for more.
"Venusaur!" Bruteroot roars
Corey smiles at seeing his Pokémon back in the fight and gives out his next command.
"Use Energy Ball!" Corey commands
Bruteroot charges up a ball of greenish-blue energy in it's mouth and launches it straight across the battlefield at Venusaurtwo. The attack lands a direct hit, kicking up a cloud of dust.
"Yes!" Corey says smiling
Corey believed that Bruteroot had managed to inflict some damage with his attack, but his smile quickly went away as the dust clears, revealing Venusaurtwo completely unharmed by the ineffective attack, especially since it was a Grass-type Pokémon.
"Leaf Storm." Mewtwo commands
"Venu-saur!" Venusaurtwo roars
Venusaurtwo summons a cyclone of wind and glowing light green leaves and sends it forward at it's duplicate. Bruteroot fights against the powerful winds, but was eventually blown away by the attack.
"Sau-Saur!" Bruteroot exclaims
Bruteroot crashes above a closed giant doorway behind him and falls onto the ground defeated. Corey gasps in shock and runs over to his wounded Pokémon.
"Bruteroot!" Corey cries out
Neesha watches as Corey nurses his poor Pokémon, then turns back to the battle at hand.
"It looks like I'm up next! Go, Shellshocker, use Skull Bash!" Neesha says
"Blastoise!" Shellshocker roars
Shellshocker runs and jumps forward with it's body surrounded by a silver-blue aura, flying across the battlefield. Mewtwo sends forth his Blastoise, commanding it to attack as well.
"Skull Bash." Mewtwo commands
"Blastoise!" Blastoisetwo roars
Blastoisetwo uses the same attack as Shellshocker and flies across the battlefield. Both Water-type Pokémon meet in the center of the field and clash in a power struggle, but that soon ended when Shellshocker was knocked back. He lands on all fours back on his side of the battlefield on Neesha's right, but he got back up onto his feet, ready to continue the fight.
"Shellshocker, use Hydro Pump!" Neesha commands
Shellshocker shoots powerful jets of water from it's shell-mounted cannons at Blastoisetwo, but the Clone Pokémon retracts it's head, arms, legs, and cannons into its shell and spins like a disc, going through the Hydro Pump, which was ineffective, and smashes into Shellshocker, landing a strong hit and sending him flying all the way back to the other side of the stadium. Shellshocker smashes into the wall near Bruteroot and collapses onto the ground defeated.
"Shellshocker!" Neesha cries out
Neesha runs over to her fallen Pokémon and nurses it. With both Bruteroot and Shellshocker defeated, it all came down to Ash and Charizard, who were the last ones standing in this match.
"Ash, be careful! Their moves are really strong!" Misty says
"Yeah, I know. But we're not giving up." Ash says
Ash and Charizard both take a couple of steps forward onto the battlefield as they prepared themselves for the final round.
"Charizard, none of those attacks can hurt you as long as they don't hit you." Ash says
Charizard grunts in understanding and stomps ahead onto the field. Charizardtwo lets out a mighty roar and spews flames from it's mouth.
"Okay, Charizard. Win it with speed!" Ash says
Charizard flaps his wings and takes off into the air. With a loud roar, the Flame Pokémon uses it's Flamethrower, shooting a stream of flames down at his counterpart, who also takes off into the air, dodging the fiery attack. Charizard chases after Charizardtwo and uses his Flamethrower again. Charizardtwo dodges and counters the attack with a strong Tackle, smashing it's full weight down on the original, sending Charizard falling towards the ground. The orange dragon Pokémon regains his flight and flies back up to attack the Clone Pokémon again with another Flamethrower. Charizardtwo quickly flies around, evading the fiery stream and counters with a flaming tail attack, landing a strong hit to Charizard's head.
Devon, Ash, and their friends watched the aerial battle from the stadium and they could tell that Charizard was losing badly against the Clone Pokémon. No matter how fast he was, Charizard couldn't land a single hit to his opponent.
"I don't think Charizard's winning, Ash." Devon says
"Can't Charizard move any quicker?" Misty asks
"The clone is too fast!" Brock says
"Pika! Pika!" Pikachu exclaims
Charizard and Charizardtwo fly higher up into the air until they were way above the clouds of the storm. Again and again, Charizard uses his Flamethrower against his clone, only to miss every time as Charizardtwo evaded the attacks. Eventually, Charizardtwo tackles into Charizard, stunning him for a moment, and grabs him from behind. Spinning around in the air, the Clone Pokémon goes into a dive, zooming back down toward the stadium with the original pointed downward. Charizard struggled to break free from the clone's grip, but to no success. Everyone's faces were filled with horror as they saw that Charizard was in trouble.
"Charizard!" Ash exclaims
"Finish it with Seismic Toss!" Mewtwo commands
Using the full momentum of the dive, Charizardtwo tosses his duplicate into the ground, dishing out tremendous damage. The battlefield was filled with a cloud of dust from the incredible impact, but soon it clears to reveal Charizard rising up onto his feet. At first, he seemed to be alright, but then he growled in pain and collapses flat on his stomach. The Dark Echo stares down at the fallen form of Charizard with its glowing red eyes, then glances up at group with sinister expression. The match was now over.
"FlAwLeSs ViCtOrY." The Dark Echo says
"Charizard!" Ash cries out
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaims
Devon, Ash, and Pikachu run out onto the battlefield to Charizard while Charizardtwo flies back over to it's masters and touches down on their right.
"HoW sMaLl ThEy ArE. It SeEmS yOuR pReCiOuS pEtS lAcK bOtH sPeEd AnD pOwEr." The Dark Echo says
"As the victor, I now claim my prize..." Mewtwo says
Mewtwo stretches his hands out to his sides and three Pokéballs appear in flashes of purple light in the air around him. These were Mewtwo Balls. They were black in color with a pale yellow background and a red eye in the center.
"Your Pokémon!" Mewtwo says
Extending his hands forward, Mewtwo sends the dark Pokéballs to capture the weakened Pokémon. One of the Mewtwo Balls flies over to Charizard and captures the orange dragon, beaming it inside with a purple beam.
"Hey! Wait!" Ash exclaims
The other two Mewtwo Balls fly toward Shellshocker and Bruteroot to capture them next. Neesha frantically tries to grab the flying Pokéball, but it was too fast as it captures Shellshocker and flies away.
"Shellshocker!" Neesha cries out
Corey tries to grab the Mewtwo Ball as well, but it flies around him and captures Bruteroot, beaming it inside.
"Bruteroot!" Corey cries out
"YoU pItIfUl HuMaNs ArE nOt WoRtHy To CoMmAnD sUcH pAtHeTiC cReAtUrEs." The Dark Echo says
"What are you gonna do with those Pokémon?!" Misty asks in a demanding voice
"We will extract their DNA to create stronger, better clones for ourselves, using the Pokémon of which you are so proud of. They will remain safe on this island with us while our storm destroys the planet." Mewtwo says spreading his hands out and creating more Mewtwo Balls as they appear above him
Devon and Ash run toward the center of the stadium battlefield and they make their stand, speaking out against Mewtwo and the Dark Echo.
"Stop it! You can't do this!" Ash yells
"I won't allow this! Not while I live!" Devon yells
"YoUr PeRsIsTeNcE iS FuTiLe. YoU cAnNoT hOpE tO sToP tHe CoMiNg DaRkNeSs." The Dark Echo says
"Do not attempt to defy us!" Mewtwo says
Mewtwo's eyes glow with purple light and he ensnares both Devon and Ash with his telekinetic powers as a blue-purple aura envelopes their bodies. The two boys lifted off the ground and hurled all the way back across the field with a strong telekinetic blast. Ash was thrown into Brock while Devon crashes and rolls over, landing flat on his stomach.
"This is our world now!" Mewtwo says
"GaThEr ThEm. TaKe ThEm AlL." The Dark Echo says
And so, Mewtwo extends his hands forward and the dark Pokéballs fly through the air to capture the rest of the Pokémon. Devon quickly rises to his feet and makes his stand as the Mewtwo Balls come flying towards him and his friends. Stretching both his hands out, he halts them all with his telekinetic powers, stopping the Mewtwo Balls in their tracks. Grunting in concentration and clenching his hands into fists, he destroys the evil Pokéballs as they all explode in purple flames. However, his efforts were futile as even more Mewtwo Balls appeared out of thin air and flew towards the group. Gasping in shock, the Keyblade Wielder turns back to his friends and shouts one word.
"Run!" Devon shouts
Ash, Misty, Brock, Nurse Joy, Corey, Neesha, Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Psyduck, and Vulpix immediately comply and quickly make a run for it, heading for the entrance hall on their left on the side of the stadium to escape the Mewtwo Balls. Devon follows them to the hall and makes it inside, but then several black-red chains shoot out from dark shadowy portals around him and wrap themselves around his body, restraining him in place. These chains came from the Dark Echo as both it's hands were stretched out towards him with a black light shining in it's open palms.
"Do YoU sEe NoW hOw WeAk YoU aRe To SaVe ThEm? HoW poInTlEsS yOuR eFfOrTs To SaVe ThEsE hUmAnS aNd ThEiR pEt CrEaTuReS fRoM tHeIr FaTe? NoThInG cAn StOp ThIs, NoT eVeN yOu. NoW, wAtCh As AlL yOuR fRiEnDs SuFfEr!" The Dark Echo says
Devon struggled desperately to free himself from the dark chains, but to no avail. All he could do was watch as all the Pokémon were captured one by one.
"No! Ngh! Gnh! Stop!" Devon yells
The Pokémon inside the large hall cry out in panic, unaware of what was happening. Gyarados roars as it was beamed and captured.
"Gyarados!" Fergus cries out
All of Fergus's Pokémon are captured before he could even try to save them. Corey's Pokémon: Scyther, Hitmonlee, and Sandslash tried to defend themselves using their attacks while Corey tries desperately to keep the dark Pokéballs away, but inevitably, they were captured too. Rhyhorn was the first captured since Mewtwo already weakened it earlier. Corey's Pidgeot tries to out-speed the Mewtwo Balls, but is also caught. Neesha runs to try and save her Pokémon while they panic. First, her Dewgong was captured, then Rapidash, then Ninetales and Vileplume, leaving only Wigglytuff. Neesha manages to smack one Mewtwo Ball away, but four more surround them and one captures Wigglytuff. As all this was going on, the Dark Echo laughs maniacally with it's deep, dark demonic voice as it echoes all across the palace.
"HeH hEh HeH hEh... Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha!" The Dark Echo laughs
In another side of the hall, Squirtle and Bulbasaur both use Water Gun and Vine Whip as they manage to defend themselves against the attacking Mewtwo Balls. Pikachu runs away from another swarm of dark Pokéballs, jumping left and right as they attacked him. All the captured Pokémon were brought down to the lab through secret entrances which were hidden under the crystal lampposts. Ash grunts in frustration as the endless swarm of Mewtwo Balls continued their relentless assault, knowing his Pokémon wouldn't last much longer. But as stood amidst the chaos, he remembered something he hadn't tried.
"Hey, I know! Mewtwo and the Dark Echo can't capture them if they're already inside their Pokéballs." Ash says
Ash takes out Bulbasaur and Squirtle's Pokéballs and calls them back inside.
"Bulbasaur, Squirtle, return!" Ash says
The two starter Pokémon are beamed back into their Pokéballs just as the Mewtwo Balls fly in where they once stood.
"Got 'em!" Ash says
Mewtwo and the Dark Echo saw this all the way from the stadium and they weren't the least bit concerned about this.
"A waste of time." Mewtwo says
"UtTeRlY pOiNtLeSs." The Dark Echo says
Ash's victory was cut short as two Mewtwo Balls capture his Pokéballs, much to his utter shock.
"That's not possible." Ash says
"Anything is possible with the Pokéballs I create." Mewtwo says
"It Is FuTiLe To TrY aNd EsCaPe OuR pOwEr." The Dark Echo says
Elsewhere in the hall, Misty hides behind a pillar with Psyduck. She places Togepi inside her knit bag to keep it undetected.
"Be very quiet in there, Togepi." Misty says
"Togepi." Togepi squeals quietly
Misty closes the bag and rises back onto her feet as both she and Psyduck try to quietly slip away from the Mewtwo Balls. One of the dark Pokéballs soon spots them and flies down to capture Psyduck.
"Psy-y-y!" Psyduck exclaims
Misty tries to grab the Mewtwo Ball, but it flies around her and captures Psyduck.
"No! Psyduck!" Misty exclaims
Brock and Nurse Joy both run to the doors of the palace to try and escape as Brock banged on the doors, but they were were locked shut, refusing to open. The Mewtwo Balls soon reach them and one captures Vulpix, which he had carried in his right-arm.
"Vuplix! No!" Brock exclaims
By now, all of the Pokémon were captured, save for one: Pikachu, who was the last one standing. The yellow electric mouse ran around the entrance hall, continuing to evade the Mewtwo Balls as all of them were now focused on him. Pikachu jumps onto the banquet table, dodging the evil Pokéballs until his path was blocked by more of them. Pikachu covered himself with his paws as he braced for the inevitable until Ash runs in and shields him using body while the Mewtwo Balls fly into his back.
"Gnh! Ngh! Pikachu, run!" Ash shouts
"Pika!" Pikachu says
From his spot, Devon watched as Pikachu ran to evade the dark Pokéballs while Ash tried to defend him as best as he could.
"Pikachu..." Devon says
Devon couldn't take any more of this torture. He couldn't watch no more. He had to help save Pikachu and fast. The Keyblade Wielder's body began to glow with a blue aura as he called upon the light within him.
"Hrrrrmmmm... Nghhhh..." Devon grunts
The same light that enveloped Devon slowly crept up along the lengths of the dark chains until it fully engulfed them. Channeling the light within him, Devon's eyes turn blank and he lets out a loud scream from the top of his lungs.
"Rrrraaaaahhhh!" Devon screams
A large, powerful telekinetic blast explodes from Devon's body, which creates ripples in space and outright disintegrates the black chains that restrained him. Mewtwo was slightly surprised when he saw this from the Keyblade Wielder. Perhaps there was more to him than it seemed. The Dark Echo recoiled and hisses as it felt the strong power of the blast. Devon fell forward on all fours as the chains around him disappeared and he panted for breath. He then looks up as he saw Pikachu heading for the double-helix staircase.
Rising up to his feet and summoning Soul Calibur into his right-hand, Devon runs across the hall to save the small Pokémon. Growling with it's demonic voice, the Dark Echo stretches it's skeletal hands out infront of it and summons multiple black shadow hands in Devon's path as they emerged from shadowy portals in the ground to try and stop him from reaching Pikachu. Determined to save his Pokémon friend, Devon cuts through each of the shadow hands with a swipe of his crystal Keyblade and continues making his way across the hall. Pikachu jumps over to the double staircase and eleven Mewtwo Balls spin around in it's path and surround it.
"Pikachu!" Devon exclaims
As he kept running, Devon aimed Soul Calibur at Pikachu and launches a magical projectile from the tip of the crystal Keyblade, which flies across the hall with incredible speed, leaving a sparkling trail of light and passing Ash as he turns and looks in surprise. The magic spell soon reaches Pikachu and encases him in a spherical barrier of light just as the Mewtwo Balls close in on him.
"Pika." Pikachu says amazed
The barrier disperses and the splashes of light obliterates the dark Pokéballs. Pikachu lands on all fours, but his temporary moment of rest was quickly interrupted as more Mewtwo Balls appear and he runs up the staircase. Devon soon catches up with Ash as they both head onto the stairs to catch up with Pikachu, who was already several feet high above them. As he climbs up the stairs, Pikachu uses his Thundershock to disable several of the Mewtwo Balls that surrounded him.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu says using it's attack
The electricity shorts out the dark Pokéballs and they fall through the air, only to be replaced by more Mewtwo Balls as they pursue Pikachu up the stairs.
"Keep running, Pikachu!" Ash shouts
"Don't stop! Keep going!" Devon shouts
In his climb up the stairs, Pikachu was forced to use his Thundershock every few seconds as wave upon wave of Mewtwo Balls chase after him. Devon and Ash kept up with their own climb until Ash slips and slides backwards. He nearly slips off the stairs, but he manages to grab hold of the edge, saving himself from the high fall.
"Ash!" Devon exclaims
Devon was about to head back and help Ash up, but the Pokémon Trainer tells him to keep going as helping him would only waste time in helping Pikachu.
"Forget about me! Go save Pikachu!" Ash shouts
The Keyblade Wielder nods his head and he continues running up the stairs. Glancing up he saw the electric bolts coming from Pikachu as he used his Thundershock to ward off the Mewtwo Balls. Devon soon stopped in his tracks, knowing that he wouldn't be able to reach him in time if kept going like this. There had to be a faster way to reach Pikachu. The young teen looks over at the stone columns on his right and he quickly came up with an idea. Devon took a few steps back as his body started to glow with blue light. Tapping into his Flowmotion ability, he flies off the stairs and jumps off the stone columns in a zig-zag pattern, ascending higher and higher above the hall.
"Pikachu!" Pikachu says
After using his sixth Thundershock, Pikachu falls flat on the stairs exhausted. Devon jumps off a seventh column and flies toward the stairs, landing on Pikachu's level.
"Pikachu!" Devon exclaims
The Keyblade Wielder sets Soul Calibur down and kneels down to Pikachu, picking him up and cradling the poor Pokémon like a baby. He was shocked to see Pikachu so tired.
"Oh, no... You've used up all your energy!" Devon says
"Chu..." Pikachu says in a tired voice
"C'mere. I got you. I got you." Devon says
Devon holds Pikachu close in his left-arm and picks up Soul Calibur in his right-hand. At that moment, another wave of Mewtwo Balls fly up to the Keyblade Wielder and electric mouse, surrounding them.
"Oh, come on!" Devon groans
Devon backs away from the Mewtwo Balls, swinging Soul Calibur at them and keeping them away from Pikachu as he held the small mouse Pokémon back in his left-arm. He managed to destroy a few of the evil Pokéballs, but the Keyblade Wielder didn't realize how close they were to the edge of the staircase behind them. Soon, Devon trips on his right-foot and both he and Pikachu fall over the side of the stairs with Soul Calibur disappearing from Devon's hand at the start of the fall.
"Gah!" Devon exclaims
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaims
Both human and Pokémon screamed as they plummeted several feet through the air with the Mewtwo Balls in pursuit. Ash stopped in his climb and glanced up in horror as he saw his best friends falling down towards him.
"Devon! Pikachu!" Ash exclaims
"Pi!" Pikachu screams
"Ash!" Devon screams
Ash jumps off the stairs and dives down after his friends. Devon kept his arms wrapped around Pikachu, but that wouldn't save him from the dark Pokéballs.
"Pika!" Pikachu cries out
One of the Mewtwo Balls reaches Pikachu and taps the yellow mouse Pokémon in the head and captures it, beaming Pikachu inside.
"No!" Devon cries out
Ash grabs the Mewtwo Ball in his right-hand as the two boys scream and fall down towards the pool down below. Within moments, they fall into the pool with a big, loud splash. The Mewtwo Ball in Ash's hands struggles to get away while he tried to keep a firm grip on it. Eventually, the Pokéballs escapes his grip and flies up out of the water with the two boys swimming up after it. Devon breaches the surface first and gasps for air, then Ash emerges as he sucks in some air.
"Ash, come on! Get up!" Devon says
Devon and Ash quickly climb out of the pool and chase after the Mewtwo Ball as it heads toward one of the secret entrances to the lab, which slowly starts to close. Corey and Neesha run over to another secret entrance, but could only watch helplessly as it closes.
"Come on, go, go, go!" Devon says
Picking up their speed, the two boys slide into the secret entrance just as it closes and they slide down the chute, heading down towards the lower levels of the palace.
"Pikachu!" Ash says
"We're coming!" Devon says
In the cloning lab, Team Rocket watch as the Mewtwo Balls containing the captured Pokémon drop down and arrive on the conveyor belt, being processed for cloning. As each of the dark Pokéballs are carried into the cloning machine, Jessie and James turn their attention to the digital display as it shows shadowy 3D images of the captured Pokémon.
"Who's that Pokémon? It's Scyther! Dewgong! Vileplume!" Jessie and James say in unison
Meowth stood by the expandable tanks, watching as the cloned Pokémon beam down into their separate pods.
"Sandslash. Nidoqueen. Vaporeon." Meowth says
Meowth then turns to face his clone behind him as it rested in it's own pod.
"And then of course, this one's Meowth." Meowth says
The Mewtwo Ball that captured Pikachu soon comes down from the chute along with Devon and Ash.
"Ohh!" Devon groans
"Ow." Ash groans
The Team Rocket Trio look over and were surprised to see the Keyblade Wielder and Pokémon Trainer as they come out from the chute.
"It's the Twerp!" Jessie exclaims
"Team Rocket?!" Devon and Ash exclaim in surprise
The two boys stand up onto their feet and struggle to maintain their balance against the flow of the conveyor belt, but they quickly manage and they run down the belt to grab the last Mewtwo Ball.
"We don't have time for your dumb motto today!" Ash shouts
"Hey!" James says
"Wait!" Jessie says
Devon and Ash run past Team Rocket and Ash dives in after the Mewtwo Ball. He grabs the Pokéball just as the machine's mechanical arms does and is pulled inside.
"Ash!" Devon exclaims
The Keyblade Wielder grabs Ash's legs to try and save him and Pikachu, but he ends up getting dragged into the cloning machine as well. Pikachu's DNA is copied into the machine and appears on the digital display for Team Rocket to see.
"Who's that Pokémon?" Jessie, James, and Meowth ask in unison
The DNA strand morphs into a 3D shadowy image of Pikachu.
"It's Pikachu!" Jessie, James, and Meowth exclaim in unison
Inside the cloning machine, Devon and Ash wrestled against dozens of mechanical arms as they tried to free themselves and Pikachu.
"Let go! Unh! Stupid machine! Unh! Give me back... Pikachu!" Ash grunts
"Gnh! Ngh! Argh!" Devon grunts
Soon, alarm klaxons blare loudly in the lab as the Pokémon Replication System begins to malfunction from Devon and Ash's efforts.
"What's happening?" Meowth asks nervously
The conveyor belt grinds to a stop and the large machine sparks with electricity. Ash pulls himself out of the machine first with Devon behind him as they fought against the pull of the mechanical arms. Eventually, they break free and fall forward onto the belt. The Mewtwo Ball in Ash's hands opens up and releases Pikachu, who emerges unscathed and shakes himself off.
"Pikachu!" Ash exclaims happily
The yellow mouse looks back at Ash and a happy smile forms on his face.
"Pika Pi!" Pikachu exclaims happily
Pikachu runs up to Ash and nuzzles himself against his face, happy to be reunited with his Trainer.
"I'm so glad you're okay." Ash says relieved
Devon smiles as he was glad the two of them were back together, but then he looks back at the cloning system as all of the newly cloned Pokémon are quickly released from the machine, sliding down the tubes all at once. Team Rocket saw this as well as they stared in surprise.
"The copies are hatching!" Jessie exclaims
All of the clone Pokémon, including Meowthtwo, are released from their pods while Devon, Ash, Pikachu, and Team Rocket watch with stunned expressions.
"There's no stopping them." Jessie says
"Send in the clones." Meowth says
"Those are clones? But where are the real ones?" Ash asks
"Pi?" Pikachu says
"They must still be trapped in the machine." Devon says glancing back at the cloning system
The clones head for the door to the lab, leaving to join their masters up at the stadium while more sparks surge from the cloning system, causing Devon to look up in shock. The machine was about to blow. Reacting quickly, Devon grabs Ash and Pikachu and hits the deck.
"Get down!" Devon exclaims
The cloning machine soon explodes, and all the Mewtwo Balls inside fly out, falling onto the floor. Each of the dark Pokéballs open up, releasing the captured original Pokémon.
"The Poké-originals!" Jessie exclaims
Tentacruel wraps one of it's large tentacles around Team Rocket, giving them a big hug while they whimpered. The Mewtwo Ball containing Squirtle opens up and releases his Pokéball, which then releases the tiny turtle.
"Squirtle!" Squirtle exclaims happily
Squirtle runs over to Ash and hugs his Trainer lovingly.
"Squirtle! You're back!" Ash exclaims
The Mewtwo Ball containing Bulbasaur opens up and releases his Pokéball, which then releases him. Bulbasaur appeared to be groggily, probably from the multiple transfers, emerging from one Pokéball to the next.
"Bulba..." Bulbasaur says
"Squirtle Squirtle!" Squirtle exclaims happily
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu exclaims happily
"Saur?" Bulbasaur says
The Seed Pokémon turns around and snaps out of his grogginess when he saw his friends behind him, and runs back to reunite with his Trainer and his fellow Pokémon.
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur exclaims happily
"You're all okay!" Ash says relieved
Charizard is released from his Mewtwo Ball to their right and he lets out a happy roar, spewing flames in the air from his mouth. Devon climbs off the conveyor belt and he looks around at all the Pokémon in the lab, relieved to see that they were alright.
"Looks like everyone's all here and accounted for. Whew. That's a relief." Devon says
As he gazes around the lab, Devon notices something on his right. It appeared to be another control panel, similar to the one near the destroyed cloning system. Curious to investigate, he walks over towards the mechanism and looks it over.
"A control panel. Looks to be intact. Hopefully it's still operational." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder places his right-hand on the panel and a large digital display appears above him, attracting the attention of Ash, Pikachu, Team Rocket, and all the Pokémon in the room. Devon looks up at the digital screen as twelve windows appeared in rows of three with four windows across. Each window had all sorts of technical information and genetic Pokémon data. At the top of the screen was labeled: Central Database / New Island. As he stared at the display, the young teen noticed something. The screen reacted to the motion of his right-hand as he waves it to the right, moving the windows to show more.
"Motion response system. Huh? Okay. Let's see..." Devon says
Devon explores the window files with his hands, swiping them to the left and right, tapping the files with his right-hand to enlarge them, and a pinching motion with both hands to close them as he searches the database for any information on Mewtwo. With Pikachu perched on his left-shoulder, Ash walks up to Devon's left with his Pokémon following him and gazes up at the display as searches through each individual file.
"Devon? What are you doing?" Ash asks
"Looking through the database on this computer. There's gotta be something on here that can tell us more about Mewtwo. The more we learn about him, the more we'll have a chance. So far, there's a lot of technical information on this database, it's gonna take forever to go through them all, and we don't have that kind of time." Devon says
In his search for answers, Devon spots a microphone icon at the bottom-left corner of the screen.
"Voice search. Let's give that a shot." Devon says
Tapping the icon with his left-hand, Devon speaks to the control panel, using his voice to narrow down the search.
"Search information database. Keyword: Mewtwo." Devon says
Multiple windows flash across the display as the computer initiates it's search while Devon waits with anticipation. Soon, a single file pops up on screen labeled: Mewtwo Origins.
"I think we got something." Devon says
Devon looks over the page and he saw a photograph of Dr. Fuji at the top of the right-side. He also saw a photos of the original lab that created Mewtwo. Gazing at the picture of Dr. Fuji, Devon reads the captions that was underneath.
"Dr. Fuji, Expert of Genetic Cloning. He must be the scientist that created Mewtwo." Devon says
Scrolling up on the page, Devon found more information regarding Dr. Fuji's expedition to South America, including his journal entries.
"Hmm... It says here that he and a team of researchers embarked on a jungle expedition to Guyana, South America, and discovered ruins of an ancient civilization." Devon says
Scrolling up further, Devon saw multiple images of the expedition. The base camp, the ruins they discovered, the Pokémon they encountered, even the fossilized eyelash. But there was one image that really caught his attention. The photograph of the mural depicting Kingdom Hearts and Mew.
"Mew..." Devon says
Devon read through Dr. Fuji's journal entries and discovered how Mewtwo was created. The fossil that Dr. Fuji and his team found belonged to Mew and they used the DNA found in the fossil to bring Mewtwo to life. That explained the suffix in his name.
"Mew? What's that?" Ash asks
"It's a legendary Pokémon. One of the rarest and most powerful in the world." Devon says
"Whoa." Ash gasps in awe
"Pika." Pikachu gasps in awe
As Ash stared at the mural, he noticed something else on it. Besides Mew, there was a heart-shaped symbol that made up most of the mural. His eyes soon widened with surprise as the realization hit him. The symbol on the mural was identical to the crystal heart of Devon's necklace.
"Hey! Devon, look! The symbol in this picture matches your necklace!" Ash exclaims
Devon looks upon the mural and he saw it too. He glances down at the Kingdom Hearts sigil on his chain, then looks back up at the mural. Taking off his necklace, Devon holds the crystal heart up in his right-hand, and the shapes match perfectly. In that moment, he knew what he was looking at.
"Kingdom Hearts." Devon says in awe
Ash, Pikachu, and the Pokémon each held confused expressions as they were unfamiliar with the name.
"Kingdom Hearts?" Ash says confused
"Pika?" Pikachu says also confused
Bulbasaur and Squirtle shared confused glances with each other as they didn't know what Kingdom Hearts was either.
"Bulba Bulbasaur?" Bulbasaur says in a questioning voice
"Squirtle?" Squirtle says shrugging his shoulders
Even Team Rocket didn't know what to think about what they just heard as they shared baffled glances.
"Eh? Kingdom Hearts? Meowth says confused
"What on Earth is that?" Jessie asks
"Beats me?" James says
Everyone was soon provided the answer when Devon read a journal entry from Dr. Fuji that described the heart-shaped moon. Devon read the words on the screen until his voice was replaced by Dr. Fuji's.
"Kingdom Hearts. One of the most mysterious wonders of the Universe. A mystical realm described only in legends. Within it contains phenomenal power and ancient wisdom. Said to have existed since the dawn of time, created with the birth of the Universe. It is also believed that Kingdom Hearts gave birth to all life in existence. Humans, Pokémon, even Mew. All life blooms in the warm light of Kingdom Hearts. All life is wonderful."
Ash, Pikachu, and all the Pokémon in the lab stared at the heart-shaped moon in awe.
"Kingdom Hearts created everything in the Universe? Wow." Ash says in awe
"Pika." Pikachu says in awe
Reading more on the page, Devon kept seeing Giovanni's name over and over multiple times in the data log. To see Dr. Fuji mention him repeatedly in his journal entries, he had to be someone very important.
"I found something else. It says in Dr. Fuji's entry that a man named Giovanni provided him with a science team and a huge investment fund for his research on cloning in exchange for the creation of the world's most powerful Pokémon. I'm guessing that must be Mewtwo. To create him, Dr. Fuji and his scientists used a fossilized eyelash from Mew, spending years to bring him to life." Devon says
"It took them that long to create Mewtwo? Wait. Who's Giovanni?" Ash asks
"Found a picture of him." Devon says
Devon pulls up a photo of Giovanni and both he and Ash stared at the man. They could instantly tell that he was bad news, judging from the sinister grin he had on his face.
"According to this, Giovanni is the leader of..." Devon says
Devon immediately stopped when saw the 'R' logo on the holographic screen near his image on the right. The Keyblade Wielder turned around and Ash, Pikachu, and his Pokémon followed his gaze as they looked back at Jessie, James, and Meowth.
"Huh?! Team Rocket?!" Ash says surprised
Pika?" Pikachu says surprised
"You guys work for this creep?" Devon asks pointing back at the image of Giovanni with his right-thumb
Jessie rubs her left-arm, James twiddled his thumbs, and Meowth scratches the back of his head with his right-hand, now feeling somewhat ashamed that they were working for such a selfish, power-hungry man.
"Well... he is our boss." Meowth says
Devon, Ash, and Pikachu ignore the troublesome trio and turn back to the computer, gazing up at the digital screen as Devon scrolled down to continue for more information.
"Hmm... here's something. Before Mewtwo, Dr. Fuji and his team spent years trying to produce Pokémon clones for Giovanni, using the genetic material of Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur, but to no success. Each of them... died before they even made it to birth." Devon says
Ash looks over at Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charizard with concern in his eyes. He couldn't bear to think of such a horrible thing happening to them. Devon read more of the data log with his eyes scanning left and right, reading each line until he found something interesting that caught his attention. Throughout the entire log, one name kept on cropping up repeatedly.
"Huh? Ambertwo?" Devon says
"Who's Ambertwo?" Ash asks
"It's the name of one of Dr. Fuji's test subjects. Besides Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur, there was a fourth clone, a human clone. It's..." Devon says
Devon pulls up a photograph that showed Dr. Fuji, his wife, and a young girl, who he had to guess was their daughter, and enlarges it for everyone to see. The young girl was named Amber.
Amber was a girl who appeared to be at the age of five with a happy smile on her face.
She had blue eyes and long blue-green hair.
In the photo, Amber stood in the front, holding a straw hat in her hands. Her mother and father stood behind her with Dr. Fuji on her right, and her mother on her left. Each of them had happy smiles on their faces.
"Dr. Fuji's young daughter, Amber. But according to this data log... she's dead." Devon says
Ash, Pikachu, and his Pokémon gasped in shock.
"Pika!" Pikachu gasps
"Bulba!" Bulbasaur gasps
"Squirt!" Squirtle gasps
"Oh, no... What happened to her?" Ash asks
Devon's eyes skim through the words on the file, searching for more information about Amber. He soon found details about the cause of Amber's death, the true motivation for Dr. Fuji's cloning research, and more in his journal entries.
"It says here that Amber, Dr. Fuji, and his ex-wife were involved in a car crash. Dr. Fuji and his wife somehow survived, but their daughter wasn't so lucky. Before she died, Dr. Fuji managed preserve Amber's consciousness inside a tank while he worked on his research." Devon says
There was an image of a chamber of light sitting on Dr. Fuji's desk to the right of the family photo in the data log, which became Amber's existence after the accident. Amber's consciousness was contained inside the tank in the form of a brilliant red, orange, and yellow light, which glowed brightly and beautifully in the eyes of both humans and Pokémon.
"Now we know why Dr. Fuji took funding from Giovanni and created Mewtwo. He was trying to revive his daughter as a clone, using Mewtwo as the basis for his research." Devon says
Suddenly, the chamber of light in the photo flashed and Devon felt and heard his heartbeat loudly, causing him to gasp and his eyes to widen. Before he knew it, everything went white.

Devon found himself laying in a mysterious world with a blue sky, dozens of white clouds, a shining sun, and a reflective blue sea, which was actually solid ground, all stretching out into infinity. This world was very beautiful, like gazing upon the wonderous realm of heaven. Soon, the Keyblade Wielder's eyes open up as he slowly regains consciousness.
"Mmmm... Uhhh..." Devon groans
Devon pushes himself up and shook his head to shake off the grogginess. He then glanced down to see his reflection as it stared up at him.
"Huh?" Devon says
Rising up onto his right-knee, the young teen looks up and scans left and right, seeing not a single soul around. The Keyblade Wielder rises up onto his feet and gazes around at the surrounding environment, staring out into the endless sky and sea. Devon took a step forward and he heard gentle splashes of water beneath his feet. Glancing down, he saw the ripples coming from his feet with each footstep he took. Was he actually standing on water? The ground seemed to behave like water, showing the Keyblade Wielder's mirror-like reflection and creating rippling waves, but it didn't feel wet at all. To him, this was very strange. Was he dreaming? No. He couldn't be. This didn't feel like a dream. All that Devon could think of at this moment was only one question.
"Where am I?" Devon asks
Before the Keyblade Wielder could think about this beautiful world any further, he heard a young girl's voice as it echoed around him, greeting him happily.
"Hello!" The young voice greets
Suddenly, a bright light shines behind Devon, causing him to turn around to the left. He shields his eyes with his left-hand. Soon, the light dies down and Devon lowers his hand. Standing before him only a few feet away was a five-year old girl. It was Amber, who had a kind smile on her face.
"Who are...?" Devon asks
Devon stopped as he looked more closely at Amber. Soon, the Keyblade Wielder gasped and his eyes widened as the realization hit him. The family photo in Dr. Fuji's data log flashed in his mind and it zoomed in on the little girl for a brief moment as he recognized her. Devon blinked his eyes as he realized who it was standing before him.
"You're Amber, aren't you? Dr. Fuji's daughter?" Devon asks
"Yep! That's me! Hee hee hee!" Amber giggles happily
Before Devon could say anything, three more figures appeared next to Amber, standing on her left and right. They were Pokémon: Charmander, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. But these weren't your regular starter Pokémon. These were actually the pre-evolved forms of Charizardtwo, Blastoisetwo, and Venusaurtwo.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaurtwo greets
"Squirtle!" Squirtletwo greets
"Charmander!" Charmandertwo greets
As he stared at the three Pokémon, Devon couldn't help but feel he had seen them before. The spots on Bulbasaur. The stripes on Charmander. And the markings on Squirtle. They were all too familiar.
"Hey. They look just like..." Devon says in his thoughts
Again, Devon's eyes widened with realization. He had seen these Pokémon before. The faint images of Charizardtwo, Blastoisetwo, and Venusaurtwo appeared behind the starter Pokémon for a moment before they faded away.
"Mewtwo's Clone Pokémon! Then, these must be their pre-evolved forms." Devon says in his thoughts
However, unlike their evolved forms, these Pokémon appeared to be more cheerful and friendlier. Bulbasaurtwo held a big smile on it's face as it stared at Devon. Charmandertwo smiled and it's tail wagged happily. Squirtletwo's tail also wagged equally happy. Devon's face softened at the cute starter Pokémon and he couldn't help but smile himself. These couldn't have been the same ones that he had seen earlier. No. These were different. They must've been the first clones that Dr. Fuji tried to create before they died.
Devon kneels down to the Pokémon and they instantly warm up to him, running up and hugging him. The young teen rubs his hands on Charmandertwo and Squirtletwo's heads before he rubs Bulbasaurtwo's head with his right-hand. His touch was so soothing and warm as each of the starter Pokémon felt content. Amber giggled as she watched the Pokémon cuddled up to their new friend.
"You like Pokémon too?" Amber asks
The Keyblade Wielder glances up at the little girl and smiles, nodding his head.
"Mm-hmm. I sure do." Devon says
"What's your name?" Amber asks
"I'm Devon."
The young girl smiled and giggled.
"That's a nice name. Did you come here to play with us?" Amber asks
The smile on Devon's face quickly went away as it was replaced with a solemn expression. Amber truly was a sweet girl. In a way, she reminded him of Kairi, who was just as kind and caring as she was.
"No. I'm afraid I can't." Devon says
The three clone starters look up at Devon with concern in their faces as he said this.
"Char?" Charmandertwo says
"Squirt?" Squirtletwo says
"Saur?" Bulbasaurtwo says
Amber also noticed the sudden change in Devon's face and she looked at him in concern, sensing the sadness within him.
"What's wrong? Why do you look so sad?" Amber asks
"Your father... He loved you very much, didn't he? You died at such a young age. He must've been hurting a lot. And all his years of research, he tried to do everything to bring you back as a clone, knowing that it would never be anything like the real thing." Devon says
Amber gave Devon a sympathetic smile.
"My clone sister, Ambertwo, she grew up alongside Mewtwo in my daddy's lab. And through her, I became Mewtwo's best friend. That was until the day she died. Mewtwo was heartbroken. The doctors gave him a memory-wiping serum, Mewtwo forgot about me, and my daddy lived in despair throughout his life." Amber says
Devon gulped and looked down solemnly. Amber was Mewtwo's only friend during his years of growing, and her clone died while he lived. This was due to the fact that Mewtwo's genetic makeup as a Pokémon and strong powers kept him alive while Ambertwo died. For Dr. Fuji, it was about bringing his daughter back to life, and the hopes of that happening died along with her. Mewtwo's friend and Dr. Fuji's daughter were both gone forever. Devon actually felt bad for the both of them.
"That's... That's too bad..." Devon says
"It's okay. My daddy loved me, and I loved him, but I was always with him in his heart. Nothing would ever keep us apart." Amber says
Devon gasped and stared at Amber in surprise. She sounded almost like him. Her words filled his heart with warmth and a smile forms on his face.
"Devon, do you have people you care about?" Amber asks
The Keyblade Wielder chuckled a bit upon hearing that as the answer was obvious. His heart had touched so many others already, it was impossible to count them all. But for a short list, Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Ash, Pikachu, Misty, Brock, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, and the Viking Teens and their dragons appeared in Devon's mind as he thought about them.
"Heh. More than I can count." Devon says smiling
"Wow. Sounds like you have lots of friends. Can we be your friends too?" Amber says
The young teen stares at the little girl for a moment before he glances down at the starter Pokémon infront of him. With a fond smile, Devon looks up at Amber and nods his head.
"I'd say we already are." Devon says
The three Pokémon's faces beamed with happiness and they cheered with their voices.
"Saur!" Bulbasaurtwo cheers
"Squirtle!" Squirtletwo cheers
"Char! Char!" Charmandertwo cheers
Amber giggles as her face was also filled with joy and happiness. Then, the little girl noticed the crystal Kingdom Hearts sigil hanging from the silver chain around Devon's neck.
"Wow! What a pretty necklace! Where did you get it?" Amber says
Charmandertwo, Squirtletwo, and Bulbasaurtwo looked up at the Kingdom Hearts necklace, also admiring the crystal heart as it glittered with it's sparkling light. Devon glanced down at his chain necklace, also noticing the three Pokémon staring up at him, then looks up at Amber as he told her.
"It belonged to my mother. She gave it to me before she died. I was probably no more than your age." Devon says
Devon's eyes glanced back down at the crystal heart sigil as he placed his right-hand on it and thought of his mother, Shara. She appeared in his mind, looking at him with a smile on her face, feeling proud of her beloved son.
"All living beings cry when they're in pain, but only humans cry from sadness. When Pokémon are sad and when they cry, their tears are full of life." Amber says
Devon looks back up at Amber and places his right-hand on her left-shoulder.
"You're a sweet girl, Amber. I can see why your father loved you. And I'm sure Mewtwo loved you just as much." Devon says
"Devon? About Mewtwo. He's trying to hurt people, isn't he? Both people and Pokémon?" Amber asks
The Keyblade Wielder's eyes slowly darts down and he nodded his head, confirming the little girl's fears.
"Yes. That's exactly what he's trying to do." Devon says
"It's not his fault. He's just lost and confused. I know that deep down inside, he's hurting. He needs a friend to help show him the way." Amber says
"Mewtwo won't listen to reason. His heart's too clouded with anger and hate. The Dark Echo's filled his heart with darkness. No doubt it's feeding off his hatred." Devon says
"That's why he needs someone who can show him the path to the light. And I believe you're the one who can help Mewtwo. You have a pure heart, Devon, and I know, without a doubt, you can show Mewtwo the truth and defeat the Dark Echo." Amber says
Devon stared at Amber for a moment, then glances down at the three Pokémon infront of him. Now, he understood. Mewtwo was just as much an innocent victim as any other. Lost, confused, and worst of all: abused. Giovanni only wanted Mewtwo for himself, to be in control of the world's most powerful Pokémon. Mewtwo must've realized Giovanni's evil intentions and escaped back to New Island. Then, the Dark Echo found him and filled his heart with darkness, instilling him with anger and hate against humanity. The Mewtwo that he knew fought alongside him and his friends against the Forces of Darkness. It would never allow itself to be used for evil. Amber believed that Mewtwo can be a good Pokémon. If she was willing to believe in Mewtwo, then he would believe too. A determined look formed on his face, and the Keyblade Wielder looks up at the little girl and nods his head.
Suddenly, Amber, Bulbasaurtwo, Charmandertwo, and Squirtletwo started to glow with a bright blue light and white sparkles leave their bodies as they slowly began to fade away. Devon rose up to his feet and takes two steps back.
"It's time for us to go." Amber says
"Yeah... I suppose it is." Devon says with a hint of sadness
"Don't worry, Devon. Everything will be alright. You can save Mewtwo. I know you can do it. I believe in you, and Mewtwo. Just remember: life is wonderful." Amber says
As they were getting closer to fading away, Amber, Charmandertwo, Squirtletwo, and Bulbasaurtwo said their good-byes to Devon.
"Bulbasaur!" Bulbasaurtwo says
"Squirtle!" Squirtletwo says waving it's left-paw
"Charmander!" Charmandertwo says waving it's right-paw
"Good-bye, Devon. I'm so happy to have met you. Thank you so much for caring about me. I hope we can see each other again someday." Amber says waving her right-hand
And with that, the little girl and three starter Pokémon faded away completely, leaving the Keyblade Wielder by himself. Devon soon felt something wet in his eyes. He brings his right-hand to his face, feels his right-eye, and looks down. A single teardrop rested on Devon's fingers. Was he crying? The young teen stares at his wet fingers as the teardrop fell into white sparkles of light. Then, he looks up at where Amber, Charmandertwo, Squirtletwo, and Bulbasaurtwo once stood, hearing Amber's voice as it spoke to him.
"Devon, please. Help Mewtwo. I know you can do it. I believe in you." Amber's voice says
Devon grips his right-hand into a fist and a look of determination formed back on his face.
"I promise, Amber. I'll do whatever it takes to help Mewtwo. I won't let you down." Devon says
As he stood alone in the vast realm of water and sky, the Keyblade Wielder heard Ash and Pikachu calling out to him with worry clear in their voices.
"Devon! Wake up!" Ash's voice exclaims
"Pika Pika!" Pikachu's voice exclaims
"Ash? Pikachu?" Devon says
Devon looks around as he heard Ash and Pikachu's voices, then a bright light engulfs him, blinding his vision as everything turns white.
Back on New Island, in the cloning lab, Devon was unconscious, laying flat on his back on the cold, metal floor with Ash, Pikachu, Team Rocket, and all the Pokémon gathered around him, each with worried expressions. Ash knelt down next to Devon on his right with Squirtle, Bulbasaur, and Charizard standing nearby while Pikachu stood on Devon's chest. Team Rocket stood to the left of the Keyblade Wielder. Ash nudges Devon's shoulder with his hand to try and stir him awake.
"Devon! Come on! Get up!" Ash says
"Pika Pikachu!" Pikachu says
Eventually, Devon slowly stirs awake as he groans, regaining consciousness.
"Mmm... Uhh..." Devon groans
"Hey! He's waking up!" Meowth says
The young teen opens his eyes and saw the blurry forms of Ash, Pikachu, Team Rocket, and the Pokémon infront of him. His vision got clearer slowly with each second until finally he was awake, much to everyone's delight.
"You're okay!" Ash exclaims happily
"Pika!" Pikachu exclaims happily
Devon sits upright and holds his head with his left-hand. Pikachu jumps off Devon's chest as he rose up.
"Yeah. Don't worry. I'm fine." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder got onto his feet and rose up with Ash's help as he places Devon's right-arm over his shoulders. Once he was up, Devon pats Ash's shoulder with his left-hand, thanking him for his help.
"What happened? Ash asks
"I saw her, Ash. I met her." Devon says
"Who?" Ash asks
Devon looks up toward the digital display of the control panel for the central database, and everyone follows his gaze as he was staring at the family photo of Amber, her father, Dr. Fuji, and her mother.
"Amber." Devon says
"Amber? You mean you actually talked with her?" Ash asks
"Pikachu?" Pikachu says
Devon turns around and faces Ash as he told him what he had experienced.
"Yes. She came to me in world of sea and sky. It was strange at first, but it was actually quite beautiful. Anyway, Amber told me some things about Mewtwo. He's not as evil as we think. He's just lost and confused. And remember when he said that humans and Pokémon can't be friends?" Devon says
"Yeah?" Ash says
"Well, Amber was his first human friend back when he was growing up in the lab. But Mewtwo survived because he was stronger while Amber's clone died. I'm sure Mewtwo must've been devastated when that happened. The doctors who looked after him gave Mewtwo a memory-wiping serum and he forgot all about her. Then, Giovanni comes into play and he uses Mewtwo for his own schemes. Mewtwo must've realized his evil intentions and escaped, coming back here to New Island where he was born." Devon says
"And that must be when the Dark Echo finds him, and turns him against humans and Pokémon." Ash says
"Right." Devon says
Devon turns and glances back up at the digital display, staring at the photo of Amber and her family.
"All Giovanni wanted was to control powerful Pokémon. But Dr. Fuji... He dedicated his life to his research... just so he could be with daughter again." Devon says
As he stared at the picture, Devon remembered his promise to Amber. With a determined look forming on his face, Devon turns back and looks at Ash.
"Ash, I know how we can stop Mewtwo, but I need you to trust me." Devon says
Ash stares at Devon for a moment, but he soon puts on a determined look of his own and nods his head in understanding. Mewtwo and the Dark Echo may have struck against the heroes first, but now it was time to fight back. This time, they would take the fight to them. This was no longer about glory. Now, it was about survival.
Author's Note: Time for some Pokémon battles on New Island! Bruteroot, Shellshocker, and Charizard duke it out against their counterparts, but are inevitably defeated by Mewtwo's Clone Pokémon ending with a FlAwLeSs ViCtOrY. FaTaLiTy... Oh, wait! Wrong concept! Ahem... Anyway, Mewtwo and the Dark Echo capture the group's Pokémon and create clones of them, but not before Devon and Ash sabotage their lab. Then, Devon learns the truth about Mewtwo's origins, and even meets Amber, Dr. Fuji's daughter and Mewtwo's forgotten friend. We're close now to the end of Devon's adventure in the Pokémon World. Can Mewtwo be saved? How long until our heroes face the Dark Echo and it's evil powers? And will Mewtwo and Mew's power be enough to help Devon and his friends defeat the shadowy wraith?
