Chapter 7: Raiden Vs Izuku

A flash of lightning nearly blinded the audience, as a man appeared almost out of nowhere.

"I was willing to give my opponents a quick death. Now, you and your allies will die regretting the heresy you have uttered." Raiden growled.

Izuku chuckled, activating a switchblade.

"You know, for a god, you're pathetically predictable."

With Raiden partially focused on Izuku's blade, he failed to see the vigilante press a button with his other hand.

Raiden heard a small beeping noise coming from the ground, before a few mines that Izuku had taken the liberty to place when everyone had gone off to sleep detonated underneath the Thunder God's feet. Blasted into the air, Raiden quickly teleported.

Izuku, unwilling to let the Elder God blindside him, immediately tossed a flashbang behind him as soon as he saw the telltale sign that Raiden was teleporting. The flashbang hit Raiden in the nose, and Raiden, perhaps out of some instinct, caught the grenade. A second later, it exploded, blinding the Thunder God and the audience with him. Izuku, who had preemptively covered his eyes, rushed to the God of Thunder. He twirled around, slashing the God's chest in an X pattern. Izuku then followed through by hitting Raiden in the head with the handle of the knife, before tossing the knife backwards and thrusting it into Raiden's neck. Unfortunately, Raiden was able to recover just in time for him to block Izuku's attack with his palm, gaining a gushing wound on his hands, but able to stop the vigilante from killing him. Raiden's finger closed around Izuku's hand.

Izuku, unable to escape the god's grip, realized that Raiden was about to electrocute him, and promptly kneed Raiden in the groin. Raiden, while his face grimaced in pain, refused to let go, and the surge of electricity was growing more and more prominent. Desperate, Izuku kneed him in the same spot. Once, twice, three times, Izuku kicked him, and on the third kick, Raiden fell down to the floor, unable to ignore the pain. With his grip weakened, Izuku yanked the knife out of Raiden's palm, throwing it to the side as he hit Raiden with a flying knee kick to his face.

With Raiden sprawled out on the ground, Izuku quickly got on top of him and started wailing on the god, throwing punch after punch at the Elder God's face, refusing to relent.

One, two.

Three, four.

Five, six.

Seven, eight.

At his eight punch, the God of Thunder teleported away. Izuku, despite knowing that Raiden could possibly be bluffing him out, couldn't help but turn to look behind him. Unfortunately, Raiden had done what he'd thought he'd do, and ended up in standing in front of him. Taking advantage of the fact that his opponent was looking behind him in that small window of time, Raiden quickly grabbed Izuku by the throat, ready to electrocute the human that had dared to harm him.

Izuku, however, had a plan. Always.

As Raiden lifted him into the air, Izuku quickly took out some powder, before hastily throwing it at Raiden's face. Raiden coughed, unconsciously letting the vigilante go with that reflex action. Izuku, not one to let the opportunity go, rolled into the god's path, before throwing himself headfirst into Raiden's stomach. Raiden, clutching his side, was unprepared for Izuku to quickly get up and jump into the air, before coming down to earth with a flying heel kick aimed right at Raiden's head.

Raiden teleported away, trying to shake himself out of the stunned state he'd found himself in, before glaring at Izuku. Electricity surged around his body, before he flew like an airborne torpedo into Izuku's chest. Izuku, realizing what was about to happen as Raiden screamed his trademark gibberish, quickly slid underneath the god, dodging his attack. Raiden, realizing that he'd missed his attack, stopped his flight and came down to the ground.

"ENOUGH!" he roared, before blinding the audience in a flash of light.

When the light had faded, Izuku and Raiden were gone.

Unbeknownst to the audience, Raiden had teleported both himself and Izuku into The Pit. Izuku, trying to regain his bearings, was almost caught off guard by the punch Raiden threw to his face.

Almost.

Izuku blocked the punch with one hand, and unfortunately found out that it was only one part of the move Raiden had planned. Raiden had grabbed his blocking hand with his other arm, throwing an elbow into Izuku's nose. Izuku barely had enough time to block the elbow strike before Raiden kicked him backwards.

Into the spiked pits below.

Izuku knew he only had one shot at this. Activating the wrist bracers that Sonya had given him as he fell, Izuku launched a small grappling hook at the God of Thunder. Finding it's target, Izuku pulled, dragging Raiden into the pits with him.

Izuku didn't give Raiden the chance to teleport away from him. He quickly grappled the god, throwing punch after punch into the god's face once again. Raiden only had two choices. To teleport the both of them to safety, or to die with Izuku while trapped in an enhanced, but still quite mortal form.

Raiden chose the first option.

In another flash of light, the two found themselves on the floor of the pit. With a roar of anger, the God of Thunder tried to kick Izuku in the chest. Izuku was barely able to block the kick with an X-block, before Raiden grabbed him and threw him into the spikes. Izuku quickly turned this on the god by having his feet hit the non-spiked parts of the spike, before jumping off of it and hitting the Elder God with a flying punch. Raiden, dazed, couldn't guard himself in time before Izuku threw a front kick into his chest, throwing the Elder God into the spikes.

Another flash of light hit his eyes, and Izuku found himself in Goro's Lair. He quickly looked around, before spotting a bewildered Goro.

"I do not believe I am supposed to fight you right now, human." Goro stated, confused at the sight in front of him, before his eyes widened.

Izuku, realizing that there could only be one reason for why Goro would be so shocked in that moment, turned around just in time to witness the God of Thunder fly from the top of the lair into where he was, lightning surging around his body. Izuku only had two options, to dodge or to attack.

Izuku chose the former, quickly rolling out of the way before the god struck. Raiden slowly got up from the small crater he had left, panting heavily.

"How DARE you. Your kind….they are nothing! Nothing but dust motes in a storm! A grain of sand upon a beach! MEANINGLESS! MINISCULE! And yet, you dare to fight against a god!"

Izuku chuckled darkly.

"Yeah? Then what does that make you, if you're being beaten by a grain of sand, Raiden. If a speck of dust can give you this much trouble, then how is it that you, of all people, deserve to be called a god?"

Raiden growled, before a flash of light enveloped the two again.

Izuku stepped back a few times, dazed.

Raiden stood in front of him, his fists clenched.

"You find yourself in the Heavens, mortal. Here, my powers are increased tenfold! Your defiance is at an end."

Izuku spat on the ground, squaring his shoulders.

"Resorting to those kinds of tricks, huh? Fine by me. It'll make it all the more sweeter when you eat shit."

With that, Raiden attacked, flying again into Izuku's chest. Izuku was able to barely dodge the attack, before Raiden teleported and punched him in the face. Dazed, Izuku wasn't able to guard himself against the onslaught of blows Raiden started to unleash upon him, as the Elder God teleported again and again and again, constantly throwing punches and kicks that was too fast for Izuku to even try to block or dodge. As Izuku laid on the ground, Raiden leaped into the air, lightning illuminating the entire arena around them.

"DIE!" he roared, before he flew downwards to destroy the human he'd bought into his domain. Izuku merely smirked, before he threw a grenade with all his might at the God of Thunder. Raiden, realizing what the object that Izuku had thrown at him was, merely zapped it with his lightning.

What he hadn't expected was the mist that would bellow out of the vaporized canister.

Raiden hacked and sputtered, trying to clear his airways of the mysterious gas. He landed on top of Izuku, intent on crushing him into the arena, only to realize that the human was no longer there, his body turning into vapor as Raiden landed on him.

Raiden quickly turned around, only to be greeted by a strong punch that hit his jaw, sending the god reeling. Snarling, the god threw lightning at his opponent. As soon as the lightning touched the figure, he turned into vapor as well.

This pattern repeated itself multiple times, with a punch coming from every angle, and Raiden being unable to hit the culprit.

Unfortunately, on his last hit, the hallucinogen that Izuku used was cleared away from Raiden's mind, and that was when he struck.

Pretending to still be dazed, Raiden noticed the mortal coming behind him, and threw a ball of lightning at Izuku's chest. Izuku screamed in pain, as Raiden teleported behind him and threw an elbow strike to his back, one hard enough to break Izuku's ribs. Izuku reeled and fell down, spitting out blood, before Raiden appeared in front of him, reading an arm chop to destroy the mortal's skull. Desperate, Izuku threw up right arm in a weak attempt to block the fatal blow. It was enough to protect his skull, but not enough to protect his arm, which broke from Raiden's Heaven-enhanced strength. Izuku's right arm fell limply, no longer responding to him. Raiden took that chance to brutally stomp on the mortal's chest.

Once.

Twice.

Thrice.

Further breaking Izuku's ribs. After taking his vengeance on the mortal, Raiden teleported him and his opponent back into the courtyard.

Izuku tumbled, unable to get up. Spitting blood, Izuku could only kneel pitifully as Raiden walked up to him.

Shang Tsung laughed, delighted that another of Earthrealm's Warriors would fall.

"Excellent, Lord Raiden. Now, finish him!"

Raiden didn't respond to the sorcerer. He only summoned a few blades composed out of pure lightning, grabbing them and swinging at Izuku.

In that moment, Raiden forgot one very crucial thing.

(Play Receive You Dual Mix 3:34)

Izuku had a plan. Always.

Smirking, Izuku grabbed Raiden's swinging arm with his left arm. Raiden, shocked at his last ditch effort, was unable to defend himself in time before Izuku drove his head into Raiden's groin. As Raiden bent over in pain, Izuku grabbed a Boosted Healer from his pocket.

"Thanks, Mileena." he muttered softly, before downing the potion. Throwing the container away, he turned to Raiden.

"I'm not finished yet!" he shouted, reinvigorated.

Raiden clenched his fists in anger, starting to realize how much of an advantage Izuku held now that he'd been healed. He had to finish this quickly, he couldn't lose, not to a mortal! He flew to Izuku yet again.

This time, instead of sliding underneath the god, Izuku merely pirouetted away, flicking his switchblade.

Raiden tumbled into the ground, blinded with the blood that was now covering his eyes. It was at that moment Izuku struck, punching, kicking, and slashing at the God of Thunder.

As Raiden threw a desperate jab in a direction where he felt his opponent was, Izuku decided to further press his advantage. Izuku's next strike targeted a nerve bunch in Raiden's deltoid, preventing him from using his left arm. With that, Izuku followed through with a backhand to Raiden's nose, before throwing a full on hook punch into Raiden's face. As Raiden fell down to the ground, Izuku got on top of him, grabbing his right arm.

"I'll never let people like you win. NEVER!" he roared, before pulling down hard on Raiden's arm.

Completely breaking it.

Raiden could only shout in pain, before Izuku shut him up with a few punches to the face. Not wanting to lose his advantage, Izuku then grabbed Raiden's leg, breaking it the same way he had broken Raiden's arm.

Even with two of his opponent's limbs broken, Izuku refused to let Raiden go so easily. He punched Raiden's face, over and over and over again, not letting up until the God of Thunder was deathly still, no longer moving.

Izuku got up, shaking from the adrenaline in his system, while the rest of the audience looked on in disbelief. A flash of light beamed over Izuku, declaring that he had beaten a god.

P.O.V Switch - Mileena

For a few moments, no one moved. Suddenly, cheering broke out from all the Earthrealm fighters that had gathered in the audience. They rushed up to Izuku, congratulating him.

Mileena could only shake her head. Izuku had told her to have faith in him, but to be honest, she'd never truly believed that he'd be able to win. She'd given him the herbs hoping that they could at least help save him if the Elder God decided to be merciful. Yet, when Izuku had boldly insulted the God of Thunder, Mileena had been deathly afraid. She didn't want to see her friend die.

Friend? Are you sure that's all you want? Her brain whispered to her, rather unhelpfully.

Mileena shook her head, heat rising in her cheeks once again. Ever since her transformation, her thoughts about the green haired fighter had only gotten more and more pervasive. It didn't help that Izuku seemed to admit that he didn't really mind her Tarkatan features that much.

As the audience dispersed, she could see Shang Tsung's expression, one of extreme hatred and...fear?

Was he now afraid of Izuku?

Perhaps he was wise to fear him. Izuku had, after all, taken down an Elder God. Shang Tsung had arrogantly boasted that, with Raiden's allegiance, this tournament was as good as theirs. Now, with Raiden gone, only Goro and Shang Tsung himself remained.

And as powerful as Goro was, he was no match for someone who had taken down a literal god.

By the Emperor, she still had trouble wrapping her head around that!

Shang Tsung cleared his throat, desperately trying to gather himself.

"In defeating Raiden, only one more challenger remains before the Earthrealm Kombatants can face me! Izuku Midoriya, to the lair with you!"

Izuku didn't even have time to curse Shang Tsung as he disappeared down a dark green portal.

Mileena felt herself freeze. Izuku, for all his skills, was running on fumes at this point. The Boosted Healer was only meant to heal one's wounds. It couldn't replenish a fighter's energy!

However, Mileena's fears were soon unfounded, as Goro's booming voice echoed through the land, angered at the fact that he had been given an opponent who hadn't even had time to rest after such a grueling battle.

"YOU DARE SEND ME AN OPPONENT WHO HASN'T EVEN RECOVERED ENOUGH TO FACE ME PROPERLY?! I WILL FIGHT THIS ONE WHEN HE HAS RECOVERED FROM HIS LEGENDARY BATTLE WITH THE ELDER GOD! NO MORE, NO LESS!"

And with that, Izuku was spat back out, looking rather angry at the man that had thrown him into the lair. His friends supported him, as his adrenaline faded and he fell forwards, tired from all that he had gone through.

Liu Kang then walked up to Shang Tsung, a fire in his eyes.

"Shang Tsung, as one of the two remaining Earthrealm Warriors, I challenge Goro in Mortal Kombat." he said, quietly, but full of conviction.

Shang Tsung's hands tightened over the armrests, before he nodded, waving his hands and sending Liu Kang into the portal to Goro's lair.

At that moment, rain started to pour down, forcing the audience to move into the Shang Tsung's Throne Room.

Minutes later, Goro's voice echoed throughout the land again, his voice almost disbelieving.

"The Shaolin has defeated me in Mortal Kombat."

AN: And with that, our green bean vigilante took down a GOD! WHOOOO!

Next chapter is gonna be Liu Kang VS Shang Tsung, and the chapter after that will be a chapter dedicated to Izuku's legacy that he left in the My Hero Academia Universe.
