Chapter 2- Operation Black Tusk

IC Era 6 y0 July 11- y4 January 4

Orders of Battle and Background Summary

Operation Black Tusk was an offensive by Gromgor's Black Zero Command against 3 renegade warlords and their commands and also against several outposts of the WSF.

The first Warlord targeted was known to Gromgor as Governor Azereti. His state was known as IOHR-109 and consisted of a series of 8 islands which each were the size of Britain, Denmark or Ulthuan. These Islands were known as Kerenine (Britain sized), Wostler (Denmark sized), Osterberg (Britain sized), Hurichtine (Ulthuan sized), Ozerenin (Denmark sized), Uzbekinberg (Ulthuan sized), Telos (Britain sized) and Arachabad (Britain sized). Of these Islands, Hurichtine, Osterberg and Uzbekinberg were producing capital ships larger than 1,400 meters long. In addition, Azereti controlled two major shipping lanes with massive, difficult to sink, armoured platforms which were equipped with enough guns to annihilate several Imperial-I class Land Destroyers or slightly fewer Imperial-II Class Land Destroyers and enough Anti-Aircraft guns to shred small air fleets .

Azereti's fleet was small but getting bigger. It consisted of 50 Imperial I/II class Land Destroyers, 100 Victory I/II Class Land Destroyers and many smaller warships. Azereti also had a small guard fleet that included another dozen or so Imperial I/II class Land Destroyers, 2 Allegiance class Battlecruisers and an Assertor Class Dreadnought. The ground Forces he possessed were a dangerous threat to Gromgor's planned conquest Azereti's territory. Azereti Commanded well over 90 infantry Divisions, about 20 motorised or mechanised infantry divisions and about half a dozen armoured divisions and that was not mentioning the numerous formations smaller than a division also stationed on the islands. Taking the islands would prove to be a very bloody affair. Azereti's airpower was comparatively weak excluding the aircraft carried on his warships as he had limited aircraft at his airbases. He had a about 300 fighters covering Islands that were sometimes hundreds of kilometres apart and had about 500 bombers to strike back at any attackers but the types he had available varied wildly and serviceability would become a problem once the campaign began.

The next target on Gromgor's list was Grand Admiral Ulysses Hammerburg. Ulysses Hammerburg had originally been an Admiral in the Empire but defected to Outer Heaven many decades earlier. He commanded a territory called the Krukenbach Authority. It consisted of a series of 5 Islands, 4 of which were the size of Ireland and the other was the size of France.

Hammerburg's Navy was powerful and was, on paper, a match for Gromgor's Navy. It consisted of at least 108 Imperial I/II class Land Destroyers, 48 Venator Class Land Destroyers, 88 Victory I/II class Land Destroyers, a dozen Allegiance class Battlecruisers, 2 Praetor-II Class Land Destroyers, 2 Mandator Class Dreadnoughts and a single Executor Class Dreadnought and massive numbers of smaller warships. It was a powerful force and Gromgor was hard pressed to match those numbers.

Hammerburg's Land and air forces were both comparatively weak. He had about 20 Infantry divisions and 2 Motorised Infantry divisions but only about 4 battalions of tanks plus another 2 amphibious tank battalions. There were over 400 fighters, 600 bombers and 300 other aircraft types in Hammerburg's air force but they would be outnumbered, outgunned and out manoeuvred by Gromgor's air fleets.

The final Warlord had on his list for the coming campaign was known as Helldriller. A hybrid Orc-Human born in the Badlands region of Outer Heaven, he was powerful and deadly in many aspects. Once trained by Samgon himself, he was cast aside owing to erratic behaviour which concerned everyone. He found a group of equally erratic Orcs, Goblins and a couple of humans who followed him. They stole a cloning facility and several warships before Samgon's disappearance and kidnapped a hell of a lot of cloning specialists in the process. With the army he grew, he conquered several islands and a small continent in the Magic Spewed Lands. Both his Navy and Army had been grown within a matter of days, magic helping things along massively. His territory was known as The Night Miner Authority.

His navy consisted of at least 60 Imperial I/II class Land Destroyers, 100 Victory I/II Class Land Destroyers, 50 Venator Class Land Destroyers, over 200 Acclamator cruisers, over a dozen Scharnhorst class Battlecruisers as well as a few hundred smaller ships.

Helldriller's army had over 100 Infantry Divisions, 18 Motorised Infantry Divisions and 7 Armoured Divisions as well as many smaller formations. Airpower was also very formidable with over 1,500 fighters, 1,700 bombers and 1,200 other types.

Gromgor's Black Zero Command had 3 fleets available for the campaign. The fleet targeting Azereti had 60 Imperial I/II Class and Victory I/II Class Land Destroyers each, a dozen Allegiance Class Battlecruisers, 50 Venator Class Land Destroyers and over half a thousand smaller warships as well as an Executor Class Dreadnought and an Outer Haven Class Dreadnought. The Second Fleet, which was targeting Hammerburg, had about 90 Imperial I/II class Land Destroyers, 49 Venator Class Land Destroyers, 70 Victory I/II class Land Destroyers, 11 Allegiance Class Battlecruisers, 2 Executor Class Dreadnoughts, 1 Outer Haven class Dreadnought and 1 Eclipse class Dreadnought and many smaller warships. The third fleet involved in the offensive was the weakest by far and consisted of 60 Imperial I/II class Land Destroyers, 50 Victory I/II class Land Destroyers, 70 Venator class Land Destroyers and over a hundred smaller warships.

Black Zero Command's ground forces consisted of over 400 Infantry Divisions, 38 Motorised Infantry or Mechanised Infantry Divisions and 21 Armoured Divisions of which 240 Infantry Divisions, 29 Motorised or Mechanised Infantry Divisions and all but one of the Armoured Divisions would be committed to the campaign. Gromgor also committed several Special Forces units to attack the WSF outposts in the campaign area.

The final faction involved in the campaign was the WSF. Their outposts in the campaign area had been stripped of personnel and many ships from the area had been sent to other more important regions. A total of 9 outposts were in the area (which were based on offshore plants) and still had a few thousand soldiers to defend them. The WSF Naval taskforce in the area consisted of 16 MC-80 cruisers of various types, 10 Imperial I/ II class Land Destroyers, 1 Venator class Land Destroyer and 7 Providence Carrier/Destroyers.

The Campaign

The first of the attacks were launched against Governor Azereti, several months after the disappearance of Samgon. The attacks began on isolated warships, with several seized in stealth attacks. Gromgor soon launched a major attack, seizing Telos and Wostler in lightning attacks, their garrisons surrendering after several small skirmishes.

A few months later, Governor Azereti then sent a fleet to try and beat off Gromgor's attack only for most of his fleet to end up destroyed and captured with only a few ship escaping. Gromgor then sent his first fleet to Kerenine, which was seized without a fight, and Osterberg, which fought on for several weeks until the last remnants of the garrison finally surrendered. Having sustained painful losses, Gromgor paused the attack against Azereti and rebuilt his forces to continue the offensive within a matter of weeks.

While pausing the attack against Azereti, he launched a new attack against Hammerburg. Gromgor began the offensive as he did against Azereti by quietly seizing several warships in stealth attacks. Hammerburg then sent a task force to try and deter Gromgor, destroying several of Gromgor's warships but the task force was then wiped out by Gromgor's second fleet in a decisive action. 3 of Hammerburg's Islands were seized in a brutal campaign that caused major casualties on both sides.

Helldriller, in the chaos that followed, attacked Gromgor, Azereti and Hammerburg in an attempt to expand his territory and eliminate his rival warlords. He appeared to make some headway but was then decisively defeated thanks to giving erratic orders and refusing to allow any withdrawals. Azereti and Hammerburg both launched retaliatory attacks against Helldriller causing him to lose even more men and material than he could afford to lose.

Once Gromgor was ready to renew his attack, he attacked with lightning speed. He struck all three warlords at the same time, taking them by surprise. Azereti fled with a small flotilla of ships for a destination unknown while those he left behind surrendered and defected to Gromgor's faction. Hammerburg was captured after some of his senior commanders betrayed him and was then executed brutally by being shot at with heavy anti aircraft guns and the remains minced up.

Helldriller launched another offensive against Gromgor, having hastily raised another fleet and another army but both the fleet and army defected to Gromgor's faction after being confronted with a better trained army and naval task force. Gromgor launched a counter offensive that was fiercely resisted by Helldriller's most loyal soldiers but otherwise caused Helldriller's forces to collapse and either rout or surrender and defect to Gromgor's forces.

Helldriller had been determined to fight to the death but most of his senior military commanders had had enough. They gave him and his devoted followers an ultimatum: go into exile or be arrested and turned over to Gromgor and likely executed. Helldriller ranted for hours saying he'd rather die than go into exile but, with the begging of his followers, he chose exile so he could gain revenge.

The two main military commanders responsible for causing Helldriller's exile were two Orcs, an Admiral and General respectively, known as Mogg Ard'ead and Hagleck Stormhand. They forced Helldriver to leave behind virtually all his fleet and army save for a single Victory-II class Land Destroyer, a few Acclamator Class Cruisers, a few Type 36 Destroyers and A few brigades worth of his most loyal soldiers. Everything else was to be handed over to Gromgor.

Following the victory over Helldriller, Gromgor attacked the WSF bases in the incredibly large region. The WSF forces fought fiercely and inflicted heavy casualties on Gromgor's forces. However, Gromgor's forces emerged victorious and most of the WSF bases in the region were captured and two were destroyed by heavy bombardments. Gromgor's naval forces occupied the surviving bases.

Gromgor ordered a study of the campaign and concluded that while all arms of Black Zero Command's Military had performed well, the speed of the takeovers had been painfully slow. He welcomed all the new additions to his forces, especially the additional divisions and the hundreds of warships. With the studies of the campaign still going, he ordered that preparations for new offensive to get started. He also ordered the captured bases and many of the islands be fortified in case the WSF came to launch a counteroffensive.

As it so happened, Gromgor needn't have worried. Following a campaign against Orc Guerrilla groups in Bretonnia and the theft of an entire fleet of warships and the kidnapping of their passengers and crews amongst other incidents, The WSF wound up vilified and was soon at war with many of the allies it had been supporting.

As one of Gromgor's generals put it, "We may be against the world, but now, so are they."

No one was to know that a new faction would appear to fight in the war and would ally themselves with the WSF. A faction whose founder had a very personal connection to Harry Potter.
