After leaving the farm, Devon, Dorothy, and Toto walk down the dirt road along the open plains and fields, wandering aimlessly for miles. They soon come upon a small bridge over a calm creek where Toto began barking at something down below on their right. At the bottom of the creek was a wagon that had writing on the side. On its side read:
PROFESSOR MARVEL
ACCLAIMED BY
THE CROWNED HEADS OF EUROPE
PAST - PRESENT AND FUTURE
LET HIM READ YOUR MIND IN HIS CRYSTAL
ALSO JUGGLING AND SLEIGHT OF HAND
Devon and Dorothy came down and approached the wagon, their curious aroused by the advertised writing on the wagon. As they did, they heard pleasant humming coming from inside the wagon. Then, they looked over on their right and saw a man responsible for the humming as he stepped down out of his wagon. His name: Professor Marvel.
Professor Marvel was a mysterious traveling fortuneteller and a magician who was charming, genuine, and caring. His hair was blonde, his mustached face was cheerful, and his brown eyes glimmered with innocence and humor. He wore a black suit with a floral vest and white shirt underneath with a black tie around his neck, a black top hat, and checkered pants.
Professor Marvel looked over on his right and saw Devon and Dorothy as they stood nearby, surprised that he had visitors.
"Well, well, well... House guests, eh?" Marvel says
"Forgive us for intruding, sir. We were just passing by and..." Devon says
The magician chuckled and waved his right-hand dismissively as he walked over to a small fire he had built earlier, sitting down on a barrel, sticking a wiener on a very long fork, and roasting it over the fire.
"Ha ha ha! Nonsense, my boy. I'm always eager to entertain the curious. Now, who might you be?" Marvel says
"Well, my name-" Devon says
"No, no. Now, don't tell me." Marvel says
The magician looks up at the Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl as he tried to guess as to what they were doing out on the road.
"Let's see. You're, uh... You're traveling in disguise. No, that's not right, I've a... You're, uh, you're going on a visit. No, I'm wrong, let's see what we..." Marvel says
Professor Marvel looks over Dorothy once more before he notices the suitcase in her right-hand. Upon seeing that, he realized now.
"You're, uh, you're running away." Marvel says
"How did you guess?" Dorothy asks
"Ha ha! Professor Marvel never guesses, he knows. Now, why are you running away?" Marvel says
Dorothy was about to answer, but Professor Marvel stops her.
"No, no. Now, don't tell me. They, uh, they don't understand you at home. They don't appreciate you. You want to see other lands. Big cities, big mountains, big oceans." Marvel says gesturing with his left-hand
"Why, it's just like you could read what was inside of me." Dorothy says impressed
"Heh heh, yes." Marvel says
While the humans were busy talking, Toto sneaks in and steals the wiener from Professor Marvel's fork.
"Toto, that's not polite! We haven't been asked yet." Dorothy scolds
"Oh, ho ho! He's perfectly welcome. As one dog to another, huh?" Marvel says
Professor Marvel grabs another wiener from a basket on his right and sticks it onto the fork.
"Now, let's see, where were we? Uh..." Marvel says
"Well, please, professor, why can't we go with you and see all the crowned heads of Europe?" Dorothy asks
"Do you know any?" Marvel asks in surprise
The magician looks back at the wagon, realizing what the Kansas girl meant.
"Oh, you mean the thing. Yes. Well, uh, I, uh, I never do anything without consulting my crystal first." Marvel says
And so, Professor Marvel sets his fork down, rises up from his barrel, and leads the two young teens over to his wagon.
"Let's, uh, let's go inside here. We'll... Just come along. I'll show you." Marvel says
Dorothy was the first the enter the wagon followed by Devon and Professor Marvel. Devon and Dorothy look around the inside of the wagon with much interest. There were a wide assortment of curios and antique relics sitting on stands, or on top of shelves. Soon, Professor Marvel takes off his hat and hangs it on a coat hang and guides them over to a small round table that had a crystal ball sitting on a stand in the center.
"That's right. Here. Sit right down here. That's it. And here you are, my boy." Marvel says putting out two chairs for Devon and Dorothy
"Thank you, sir." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl both take a seat while the magician takes a match from matchbox and strikes it. He then holds it up to a candle that stood on its stand nearby next to a chair on the opposite side of the table on its left to light it, then lights another candle on the other side of the chair before shaking the flame out and discarding the match. After he did that, Professor Marvel grabs a white turban that had a three-sided round gold piece with a rounded-square red jewel in the center and putting it on. He then sits down with Devon and Dorothy at the table, gesturing them to his crystal ball.
"This, this is the same genuine, magic, authentic crystal used by the priests of Isis and Osiris in the days of the Pharaohs of Egypt in which Cleopatra first saw the approach of Julius Caesar and Marc Anthony and, uh, and so on, and so on." Marvel says
Before he could give his reading to them, Professor Marvel gave Devon and Dorothy
"Now, you, uh, you'd better close your eyes, my child. And, uh, you too, my boy, for a moment in order to be better in tune with the infinite." Marvel says placing his right-hand on their left-shoulders
Dorothy does as instructed and closes her eyes. Devon was a bit hesitant at first, but he complied with the magician's request. While their eyes were closed, Professor Marvel gently takes Dorothy's basket from her left-hand and sets it down on the round table.
"We, uh, we can't do these things without... reaching out into the infinite." Marvel says
The magician looks into the basket for a moment before taking out a small photograph that had Dorothy and Aunt Em, who was wearing a polka-dot dress in the picture with her right-arm wrapped around her niece's shoulders, standing together in between a white picket fence with a gate attached. Both of them happy smiles on their faces. Very subtly, he sneaks the photograph underneath his crystal ball, then gives Devon and Dorothy the okay to open their eyes.
"Yes, that's, that's alright. Now you both can open them. We'll gaze into the crystal." Marvel says
And so, Devon, Dorothy, and Professor Marvel lean in closer to the crystal ball as the fortuneteller began his reading.
"Ah. What's this I see? A house with a picket fence, and a barn with a weathervane of a, of a, of a running horse." Marvel says
"That's our farm!" Dorothy says
"Yes. Yes. There's a woman. She's, uh, she's wearing a, a polka-dot dress. Her face is careworn." Marvel says
"That's Aunt Em." Dorothy says
"Yes. Her, uh, her name is Emily." Marvel says
"That's right." Dorothy says
"Do you know what she's doing?" Devon asks
"Well, I, uh, I can't quite see. Why she's crying. Someone has hurt her. Someone has just about broken her heart." Marvel says
Devon wasn't the least bit surprised. He knew that with Dorothy running away from home, Aunt Em would notice her disappearance, and that would make her feel sad. Dorothy had a somewhat guilty expression on her face. Aunt Em was crying? Immediately, she thought she was to blame for her aunt's sadness. Was it because she ran away?
"Me?" Dorothy asks
"Well, it's, uh, someone she loves very much. Someone she's been very kind to. Someone she's taken care of in sickness." Marvel says
"Well, I had the measles once, and she stayed right by me every minute." Dorothy says
"What's she doing now?" Devon asks
"Yes, she's, uh... What's this? Why she's, she's putting her hand on her heart! Why she's, she's dropping down on the bed!" Marvel says
"Oh, no, no!" Dorothy gasps
"Well, that's all. The crystal's gone dark." Marvel says
At that moment, Dorothy realized her terrible mistake and how selfish she had acted by not thinking about her aunt's feelings and taking her guardians into consideration. Fearful of what might be happening to her aunt, Dorothy bursted up from her seat, thinking that perhaps she might be sick from a heart attack.
"Oh! You don't suppose she could really be sick, do you?" Dorothy asks
"Well, it is possible, Dorothy. I mean, Em is an elderly woman." Devon says
"Oh, oh, I've gotta go home right away!" Dorothy says
"But what's this, I thought you and your friend were going along with me." Marvel says
"Oh, no, no, we have to get to her right away!" Dorothy says
"Right! Come on! Let's get back to the farm!" Devon says
Dorothy grabs her basket and calls for her dog to follow.
"Come on, Toto! Come on! Come on!" Dorothy says
Devon and Dorothy step down out of the wagon and began heading back up the slope of the creek, going back up to the bridge with Dorothy bidding farewell to Professor Marvel.
"Good-bye, Professor Marvel! And thanks a lot!" Dorothy says
As the Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl started running back up the dirt road, the wind began to pick up as the trees and bushes shook back and forth, leaves flying in the air.
Professor Marvel steps down out of his wagon and hastily walks over to his black horse, Sylvester, who whinnied in a panic near the side of the wagon, grabbing the reins of his horse and running his right-hand along the animal's nose to calm him down.
"Better get under cover, Sylvester. There's a storm blowing up. A whopper... to speak in the vernacular of the peasantry. Poor little kid, I hope she and her friend gets home alright." Marvel says
At the Gale Farm, the winds blew fiercely with a sharp whistle as a terrible, deadly tornado had formed, raging along the prairies in the distance to the south. It was a black swirling vortex of destruction. An E-5 tornado, to be precise. And to make matters worse, the storm was heading straight for the farm!
The chickens clucked in panic as they flapped their wings and ran, the pigs squealed, and the horses whinnied inside the barn. The sound of the howling winds was almost deafening. Henry, Hunk, and Hickory ran up to the barn to free the animals inside.
"Hunk! Get them horses loose! Where's Hickory?! Hickory! Hickory! Doggone it!" Henry shouts
As Hunk slides open the doors to the barn and releases the horses with three brown ones running out, Zeke comes running around from the left-side of the barn.
"It's a twister! It's a twister!" Zeke exclaims in panic pointing to the tornado in the distance with his left-hand
Near the house, Em stood out in the backyard near the storm cellar, screaming and calling out for Devon and Dorothy against the howls of the wind.
"Dorothy! Devon!" Em calls
Em moves around to the front yard and continues to look around for her niece and the Keyblade Wielder, calling out their names.
"Dorothy! Devon!" Em calls
Devon and Dorothy soon arrive back at the farm on the dirt road and were shocked to see the deadly tornado in the distance.
"Oh, my." Dorothy gasps
"That's a mean-looking tornado." Devon says
"Come on! We need to get to the house!" Dorothy says
Not wanting to waste any more time, the Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl began hurrying back to the house.
On the farm, the last of the horses were freed with Hunk untying the horse's reins from the fence, and he, Henry, Hickory, and Zeke make a run for the backyard to get to the safety of the storm cellar.
"Come on! Everybody, in the storm cellar!" Henry shouts
Out on the dirt road, Devon and Dorothy fought against the raging winds of the tornado as they pushed toward the farm. Trees were ripped from the ground and sent flying in the wind. Tumble weeds and bushes were completely blown away.
"Come on, Dorothy! Hurry!" Devon shouts
Suddenly, Toto's barking caught Devon's attention, causing him to look down at the dog on his left. Then, he heard the sound of wood creaking behind him. Devon turned and looked up in shock as a telephone pole was ripped from its base with the phone wires snapping and whipping around crazily everywhere in the wind and was now falling down towards him and Dorothy. Reacting quickly, he grabs Toto and holds him in his left-arm, then rushes back to Dorothy.
"Dorothy! Get down!" Devon shouts
Devon grabs Dorothy with his right-arm and dives away to the left on the ground while she screamed as the telephone pole came crashing down, missing them by inches. They look back at the collapsed pole, realizing how lucky they were for to have avoided it.
"Oh! Jiminy crickets! Thank you, Devon." Dorothy says
Devon nods his head and quickly rises up onto his feet with Dorothy, still holding onto Toto.
"Alright! Come on! Come on, Dorothy, come on! Let's go!" Devon shouts
Devon and Dorothy look over to their right as another tree was ripped from the ground nearby, but nowhere near that it would hit them.
"Go, go!" Devon shouts
Picking up their pace, the Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl continue down the road, running toward the farm.
At the house, Henry, Hunk, Hickory, and Zeke rush into the backyard as a frightened Em runs up to her husband, frantically worried about her niece and Devon being out in such a horrible storm.
"Henry, I can't find Dorothy or Devon! They're somewhere out in the storm!" Em shouts
"We can't look for them now, Em!" Henry shouts holding onto his wife
"Dorothy! Devon!" Em shouts
"Come on, get in the cellar! Hurry up!" Henry shouts
Unable to wait for Devon and Dorothy, the five adults head down into the storm cellar with Em going first and Henry right behind her, followed by Hunk, Hickory, and Zeke, who pull the door to the cellar closed and locked it with the latch.
After struggling against the winds of the tornado for more than a minute, Devon and Dorothy finally reach the farm and move past the gate to the front yard. They rush onto the porch and pull the screen door open, which is then ripped off from its hinges. Devon hands Dorothy her dog and goes to open the door to the house, but the suction force of the winds made it difficult for him to push the door open. Grabbing the doorknob with both hands, Devon pushes his left-shoulder against the door to get it open, grinding his teeth as he put his full weight against it.
"Gnh! Come on! Open!" Devon grunts
With his left-shoulder getting sore, the Keyblade Wielder switches to his other shoulder and continues to push, seeing the black tornado as it got closer to the farm. Devon focuses back on the door and pushes with all his might.
"Gnh! Gnh! Gnnnh!" Devon grunts
Eventually, Devon manages to get the door open and both he and Dorothy head inside to look for Em and Henry. They move throughout the small house and go through each room, opening the doors as they searched for the elderly couple.
"Auntie Em? Auntie Em!" Dorothy calls
"They're not in the house!" Devon shouts
Dorothy looked out toward the backyard and remembered the storm cellar that was there.
"Auntie Em!" Dorothy calls
The two quickly run out into the backyard and up to the cellar. Devon grabs the handle with both hands and tries to get it open but couldn't. He pulls on it a couple times until he realized that Em, Henry, and the farm hands must be inside and that they locked the cellar door.
"Argh! It's locked!" Devon shouts
Dorothy stomps on the door with her right-foot and calls out to her relatives inside as loud as she could, but her voice was drowned out by the howling winds of the tornado.
"Auntie Em! Uncle Henry!" Dorothy calls
"It's no use! They can't hear us!" Devon shouts
Devon and Dorothy looked over at the tornado on their left and saw that it was now only 50 yards away. With no way of getting into the cellar or escaping the storm, their only option left was to seek shelter in the house.
"Quick! Back to the house!" Devon shouts
The Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl run back to the house and pull the door open. Before heading inside, they spare one last look at the black swirling tornado as it rapidly approached them with the twister reflecting in Devon's widened eyes.
"Inside! Get inside!" Devon shouts
Devon pushes Dorothy into the house and quickly shuts the door, locking it tight. They retreat to Dorothy's room and Devon slams the door shut while the frightened Kansas girl stood by her bedroom window.
"Auntie Em?" Dorothy says
Suddenly, the windowpane is blown inwards, breaking off from its frame and hits Dorothy in the head while she screams, knocking her unconscious as she falls onto her bed with Toto beside her still in her arms. Devon heard her scream as he turned around to the left, watching in shock as she fell onto her bed.
"Dorothy!" Devon exclaims
The pressure of the wind was now so strong and violent that all the glass windows in the house broke and shattered into pieces. Devon could hear the glass shattering outside the bedroom door as he turned back around. Then, a sudden jolt shook the house, causing him to lose his balance and fall backwards.
"Aaaaah!" Devon screams
The Keyblade Wielder bangs the back of his head hard against the floor as he falls onto his back, and everything went black. As the two humans laid unconscious in the room, the tornado lifts up the house from its foundation without destroying it and the house twirls upwards, ascending into the clouds.
Minutes later, Devon awakens on the floor, sitting up as he rubbed the back of his head with his right-hand.
"Oh... My head." Devon groans
Around the same time, Dorothy awakens from her bed as she sits upright. Devon looks over his left-shoulder at Dorothy and forces himself up to check on her.
"Dorothy? You alright?!" Devon asks
"Yes." Dorothy says
The Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl soon direct their attention toward the bedroom window where the saw a white fence fly into view with a rooster clucking and crowing outside. Next, they saw a woman knitting a scarf while sitting on a chair with a white cat on her lap, who waved at them, catching Devon completely by surprise.
"What the heck?!" Devon exclaims
Then, a cow flies by with a loud moo. Toto comes up to the window and barks four times before jumping down from the bed and hiding underneath. And then, they saw two men on a rowboat, using their oars as if they were on water. They tipped off their hats to the Keyblade Wielder, who's jaw dropped stumped, while Dorothy waves her right-hand to them. Devon and Dorothy looked down over the side of the window and were shocked to see nothing but black, save for the core of the tornado and the ground which was barely visible down below. It was very dark, and the wind howled horribly.
"We must be up inside the cyclone!" Dorothy exclaims
Not wanting Dorothy to fall out the window, Devon grabs her shoulders and moves back, pulling her away.
"Dorothy! Get back from the window!" Devon shouts
And if that wasn't a surprise enough, Devon and Dorothy saw Miss Gulch riding her bicycle, herself an unlucky victim to be swept up by the storm. Yet, she didn't seem troubled, or unaware of what was happening.
"Oh! Miss Gulch!" Dorothy exclaims
And then, right before their eyes, Miss Gulch undergoes a hideous transformation as her old body faded away and was replaced by a new one. Now, she was literally a witch with warty, green skin, a pointed nose, and long black fingernails, wearing a black pointed hat and a matching long cape, confidently flying on her broomstick. Devon and Dorothy were surprised yet again as they immediately backed away from the window.
"Whoa!" Devon exclaims
The now turned Wicked Witch laughs with an evil, cackling voice as she flies off. Then, the house began to spin and twirl around in the air uncontrollably. Devon and Dorothy both fall onto the bed as everything in the house, including the bed they were on, shifted and slid around from the house's erratic movement. Dorothy screamed as both she and Devon laid forward on the bed, holding on for dear life. Devon held onto Dorothy with his left-arm around her waist and Toto in his right-arm.
"Hang on!" Devon shouts
Finally, the storm lets up and releases the farmhouse and drops it, falling with gravity as it descends from the sky. Feeling that impact was inevitable, Devon and Dorothy shut their eyes tightly as they braced themselves for a very rough landing. Everything went black again as the house eventually lands on solid ground with an incredibly loud crashing thud. What happened next would be the start of something entirely new for them.
Author's Note: It's a twister! Devon and Dorothy have been whisked away from Kansas. And now, we're about to enter Munchkinland and the Land of Oz. To anonymous (guest), I'm glad that you decided to go along with the third option for your ideas. You don't know how much of a relief it is for me. It's like so much weight on my shoulders have been lifted up. Any ideas you have for Heartless, Nobodies, Unversed, Dream Eaters, etc., I'll be sure to make note of them, look them over, and decide which ones are good. In fact, if you could, I need a Dream Eater boss for the final stage of Devon's journey in the Land of Oz. Any help with that would be much appreciated. Let me know what you guys think. No flames please. Hope you guys like and don't forget to review!
