After traveling day and night through the Land of Oz, Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion come out of the dark forest and into the bright daylight as they arrive in the midst of a great meadow where the beautiful, yet deadly Poppy flowers bloomed, carpeting the ground in hundreds of thousands and stretching for many miles around the forest. And right before them, far out in the distance was their destination: Emerald City, a bright green city that stood tall and high at the end of the Yellow Brick Road, sparkling and glowing with countless glittering emeralds with the mountains beside the city on the right. The Keyblade Wielder, Kansas girl, straw man, metal man, and anthro lion each shared excited expressions as they stared at the city. It was a magnificent sight to behold.
"Check it out." Devon says amazed
"There's Emerald City! Oh, we're almost there! At last! At last! It's beautiful, isn't it? Just like I knew it would be." Dorothy says
"Yeah. It's definitely got that dazzling shine to it." Devon says
"He really must be a wonderful wizard to live in a city like that." Dorothy says
"Well, come on, now, what are we waiting for?" Lion asks
"Nothing, let's hurry!" Scarecrow says
"Yes! Let's run!" Dorothy says
"Last one there's a Wicked Witch!" Devon says
Filled with excitement, the group began making their way across the knee-deep flowery red carpet, running as fast as they could towards the glowing, florescent green city. Scarecrow and Tin Man were further ahead in the meadow while Lion and Devon were behind them. Dorothy was the last and furthest away.
"Come on! Come on!" Scarecrow yells excitingly
"Hurry! Hurry!" Tin Man yells excitingly
The group were about halfway through the meadow until Scarecrow and Tin Man stop up on a hill and gaze out at Emerald City, admiring the spectacular view of its dazzling magnificence.
"Oh, look! Oh... come on!" Scarecrow exclaims
"Look at the scenery! It's wonderful! Emerald City!" Tin Man says
Eventually, Devon and Lion manage to catch up with Scarecrow and Tin Man and they stop up on the hill. Dorothy was panting for breath as she reached her friends. Suddenly, the Kansas girl began to feel drowsy as she breathed the soothing scent of the Poppies, falling under the enchanting spell of the scarlet flowers. Dorothy placed the back of her right-hand over her forehead as her eyelids felt heavy.
"Oh. What's happening? What is it? I can't run anymore. I feel so sleepy." Dorothy says
"Here, give us your hands, and we'll pull you along." Scarecrow says
Scarecrow and Tin Man grab Dorothy's hands and try to pull her along, but she refused to move.
"Oh, no, please. I have to rest for just a minute." Dorothy says
The Kansas girl looks around for her dog, wondering where he was.
"Toto. Where's Toto?" Dorothy asks
Dorothy looks down at her feet and saw the small terrier laying underneath the Poppies on his left-side, already sound asleep. Overcome with sleepiness, Dorothy got down on her knees to sit, then she lies down on her left-side.
"Oh, you can't rest now. We're nearly there." Scarecrow says
As soon as Dorothy collapsed, Devon began to feel the effects of the deadly Poppies himself as his body also felt heavy. He felt drowsy and started to stumble.
"Ughhh... Guys... Something's wrong... I don't know why... but I suddenly feel... so tired. So heavy..." Devon groans
Unable to stand on his feet any longer, the Keyblade Wielder falls down on his knees, succumbing to the weariness. He used his left-hand to try and keep himself up as he tried hard to stay awake, but he inevitably collapses next to Dorothy, laying flat on his stomach.
"Oh, no! Devon! Not you too!" Scarecrow exclaims
Scarecrow and Tin Man weren't affected at all by the slumbering spell of the Poppies like Devon and Dorothy because although they were living beings, they weren't of flesh and blood. Saddened by what was happening, Tin Man started to cry and sob with tears streaming down his face as he began having an emotional breakdown, fearing that his two human friends would remain asleep forever.
"Don't cry! You'll rust yourself again!" Scarecrow says
Then, Lion started to get sleepy from the Poppies as well.
"Comin' to think of it, forty winks wouldn't be bad." Lion says
Lion lets out a yawn and starts to fall backwards, but Scarecrow and Tin Man both catch him by his arms and set him up straight on his feet.
"Don't you start it too!" Scarecrow says
"We ought to try and carry Dorothy." Tin Man says
"I don't think I could. But we could try." Scarecrow says
"Let's." Tin Man says
"Yes." Scarecrow says
As Scarecrow and Tin Man lower down to pick up Dorothy, Lion falls backwards into the Poppies with his legs up in the air.
"Oh, look at him. This is terrible!" Tin Man says
"Here, Tin Man, help me!" Scarecrow says
Going back to Dorothy, Scarecrow and Tin Man try to pick her up. The straw man grabs her shoulders and the metal man takes her right-hand, but they couldn't move her.
"Oh, this is terrible! Can't budge her an inch! This is a spell, this is!" Scarecrow exclaims
"It's the Wicked Witch! What'll we do?" Tin Man exclaims letting go of Dorothy's hand
Tin Man started to panic and scream for help.
"Help! Help!" Tin Man screams
"It's no use screaming at a time like this! Nobody'll hear you!" Scarecrow yells
The straw man tried to keep calm, but soon he was panicking as well and screamed out for help.
"Help! Help! Help!" Scarecrow screams
As Scarecrow continued to cry out for help and Tin Man continuing to sob, Devon used the last bit of his strength to try and stay awake as called out for Glinda, the Good Witch of the North.
"Gnh... Glinda... Please... Help us..." Devon groans
After having said that, Devon's strength finally gives out and he succumbs to the slumbering spell of the Poppies, closing his eyes with a groaning sigh. Both Devon and Scarecrow's pleas for help were heard as Glinda had been watching over the group the entire time from her own castle far to the north. With a wave of her magic wand, snow begins to fall out of the clear blue sky, much to Scarecrow's surprise as he looks up.
"It's snowing!" Scarecrow exclaims
The snow falls over Devon, Dorothy, and Lion's sleeping forms to lift the Poppy field's curse.
"No, it isn't... Yes, it is! Oh, maybe that'll help! Oh, but it couldn't help." Scarecrow says
The straw man looks down and was even more surprised and relieved to see the Keyblade Wielder and Kansas girl open their eyes and stir awake.
"It does help! Devon, Dorothy, you're waking up!" Scarecrow exclaims lowering down to his human friends
Dorothy and Lion both sit up while Devon pushes himself up, rising onto his knees and falling back to sit down.
"Oh. Oh!" Dorothy gasps
"Uhh..." Devon groans
The two humans and lion looked up and were surprised to see that it was snowing in broad daylight.
"Unusual weather were havin', ain't it?" Lion says
Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Lion chuckled a bit. Then, they look back at Tin Man, shocked to see that he had rusted himself crying with his left-hand holding his forehead and a sad look frozen stiff on his face.
"Oh, no. Tin Man!" Devon exclaims
"Look! He's rusted again!" Dorothy exclaims pointing up at Tin Man
Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Lion rise up to their feet and they surround Tin Man's rusted body.
"Give me the oil can! Quick!" Devon says
Dorothy reaches into her basket and hands the oil can over to Devon.
"He is rusted." Scarecrow says
Working quickly, the Keyblade Wielder pumps oil onto metal man's body while the Kansas girl and straw man move his arms to free up his joints.
Over to the west, at the Wicked Witch's Castle, the evil hag saw what was happening through her magic crystal ball and was displeased by the sudden turn of events, knowing that Glinda had helped save the group from her dark spell.
"Cursed it! Cursed it! Somebody always helps that girl! And that boy!" Wicked Witch says
Nikko, the leader of the Flying Monkeys, hoots and jumps up and down, drawing the Witch's attention and handing her a Golden Cap, which was made of soft yellow velvet and fine golden silk, with a beautiful brim of solid gold that circled around the entire cap. On this brim was a circle of sparkling diamonds and red rubies. This Golden Cap was a magical item, enchanted with a special charm that summons the rest of Nikko's brethren. The Wicked Witch took hold of the cap and looks down at Nikko.
"But shoes or no shoes, I'm still great enough to conquer her. And woe to those who try and stop me!" Wicked Witch says throwing the cap aside in anger
Back in the Poppy field, Tin Man was lubricated and was moving freely again, and he, Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Lion gaze out at Emerald City.
"Come on! Let's get out of here." Devon says
"Look! Emerald City is closer and prettier than ever!" Dorothy says
(You're Out Of The Woods - Starts)
Optimistic Voices:
You're out of the woods,
You're out the dark,
You're out of the night.
The group looked around as they heard the disembodied singing female voices but went along with the music. They descend down the hill and continue straight along the Yellow Brick Road, heading towards Emerald City as the optimistic voices kept singing.
Optimistic Voices:
Step into the sun,
Step into the light.
Keep straight ahead for,
The most glorious place,
On the face of the earth,
Or the sky.
Hold onto your breath,
Hold onto your heart,
Hold onto your hope.
March up to the gate,
And bid it open.
(You're Out Of The Woods - Ends)
Back at the Witch's Castle, the Wicked Witch decided to meet the group at Emerald City. Grabbing her broomstick, she walks around to the balcony of her chamber with a evil cackle.
"To Emerald City, as fast as lightning!" Wicked Witch says
Mounting her broomstick, the Wicked Witch takes off into the air, cackling with her evil laughter as she heads off towards Emerald City.
Making their way to the end of the Yellow Brick Road, Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion approach the gate to Emerald City, which stood several feet high above them, decorated with a shining silver frame, and the optimistic voices still singing.
(You're Out Of The Woods Reprise - Starts)
Optimistic Voices:
You're out of the woods,
You're out the dark,
You're out of the night.
Step into the sun,
Step into the light.
March up to the gate,
And bid it,
Open.
Open.
(You're Out Of The Woods Reprise - Ends)
Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion stop infront of the gate and look around for a way to signal whoever was on the other side to open the gate. The Keyblade Wielder soon found a long silver puller for a bell of some kind and pulls down on it, causing two bells to ring loudly. A circular window pulls back and opens up as the Door Man, an Ozian man peeks his head and upper body through, answering the door. He had a slightly bald head with inward curled brown hair split in the center, a mustache, and wore clothes of green silk with four large white buttons and matching gloves.
"Who rang that bell?" The Door Man asks
"We did." Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion say in unison
"Specifically, I did." Devon says tapping his chest and pointing to himself with his right index and middle fingers
"Can't you read?" The Door Man asks
"Read what?" Scarecrow asks
"The notice." The Door Man says
"What notice?" Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion ask in unison
"It's on the door! Plain as the nose on my face!" The Door Man says pointing down beneath him with his right-hand and gesturing to his face with his fingers
"Uh, you may want to look again." Devon says
The Door Man looks down and realizes that there was no notice hanging on the gate.
"Oh! Eh-oh... Oh! Aah... Tsk, tsk, tsk." The Door Man says
Feeling embarrassed, the Door Man retreats from the window for a second before coming back with a black sign that had green writing on it and hanging it on the gate below the window. He then shuts the window closed as the group read the sign.
"Bell out of order. Please knock." Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion read in unison
"It seemed to work fine to me." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder shrugs his shoulders.
"Oh, well." Devon says
Devon grabs the large, silver knocker on his right and knocks the gate four times. The window opens back up and the Door Man returns, pleased that the group followed along with the notice.
"Well, that's more like it! Now, state your business." The Door Man says
"We're going to see the wizard." Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion say in unison
The Door Man jumped and gasped in shock and surprise.
"Oh-ho, uh, eh... The wizard? Ugh... But no one can see the Great Oz. Nobody's ever seen the Great Oz! Even I've never seen him!" The Door Man says
"Well, how do you know there is one if no one's ever seen him?" Devon asks crossing his arms
"Because he's... You're wasting my time!" The Door Man stutters
The Door Man begins to back away from the window, but then Dorothy speaks up, calling him back.
"Oh, please! Please, sir! We've got to see the wizard." Dorothy says
"It's important. The Good Witch of the North sent us." Devon says
"Prove it!" The Door Man says turning his head slightly to the left with a raised right-eyebrow and a skeptical look
"Dorothy's wearing the Ruby Slippers she gave her." Scarecrow says
Peeking out of the window, the Door Man looks down and Dorothy pulls up her skirt, revealing the Ruby Slippers and turning her feet to the left to give the Ozian man a better look. A surprised expression formed on his face as he gazed upon the sparkling shoes.
"Oh! So she is!" The Door Man exclaims surprisingly
"Yes. And Devon's a Keyblade Wielder." Tin Man says
The young teen stretches forth his right-hand and summons his trusted Keyblade: Soul Calibur as proof. An even bigger smile forms on the Door Man's face as he watched the blue crystal of the Keyblade glittered and glowed beautifully with its benevolent light. It was like gazing upon diamond stars in the night sky, only in daylight, and was just as dazzling as the emeralds of Emerald City itself.
"We-hell, bust my buttons! Why didn't you say that in the first place? That's a horse of a different color! Come on in! Ha ha ha!" The Door Man laughs
The Door Man closes the window and the tall doors slowly swing open inwards. Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion gaze around at the many wonderous sights of the city.
All of the buildings were constructed out of hundreds of skyscraper cylinder domes of what seemed to be green marble and green glass and were all crowded together with small windows and doors. The streets were polished of dark green marble with some areas having velvet carpets and colorful gardens with green watered ponds and beauty shops.
The inhabitants of the city, who walked around the streets, stopped and looked over at the group, curious about the new arrivals to the Emerald City. Each of them, like the Door Man, they all wore fashionable, fancy green outfits and attractive robes, but there was also some white to be seen in other places of their clothing such as the sleeves of their shirts, pants, dresses, socks, gloves, or hats.
As the Keyblade Wielder, Kansas girl, straw man, metal man, and anthro lion enter the streets, a black carriage with a bright green leather cushioned interior, drawn by a white horse, pulls up infront of them from the right, offering the group a tour of the city. At the reins was a male driver, who had a full light brown beard and mustache, wearing a green top hat, matching pair of jacket and pants, white gloves, and green boots.
"Cabby! Cabby! Just what you're looking for! Take you any place in the city, we does." The Carriage Driver says
"Well, would you take us to see the Wizard?" Dorothy asks
"The Wizard? The Wizard? I can't-" The Carriage Driver stammers
The Carriage Driver stutters for a moment, but soon complies with the request.
"Well... Yes, of course. But first, I'll take you to a little place where you tidy up a bit, what?" The Carriage Driver says
"Sounds good." Devon says with a right thumbs up
"Oh, thank you so much!" Dorothy says
Excited to explore the glorious city, the group proceeds to board the carriage with Devon climbing up first, Dorothy second, Tin Man third, Scarecrow fourth, and Lion last. Devon and Dorothy sat in the front row behind the driver while Tin Man, Scarecrow, and Lion sat in the second row behind them.
"We have gone such a long time, and we feel so missed." Dorothy says
As they got comfortable in the carriage, the group immediately noticed that the white horse that pulled the vehicle was now purple. It's skin had changed color in the few seconds they boarded.
"What kind of a horse is that? I've never seen a horse like that before." Dorothy asks
"No, and never will again, I fancy. There's only one of him and he's it. He's the horse of a different color you've heard tale about." The Carriage Driver says
The group all laughed, and soon they were on their way as the Carriage Driver and the citizens of Emerald City began to sing.
(In the Merry Old Land of Oz - Starts)
Carriage Driver and Chorus:
Ha ha ha!
Ho ho ho!
And a couple of tra-la-la's,
That's how we laugh the day away,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
Buzz, buzz, buzz,
Chirp, chirp, chirp,
And a couple of la-di-da's,
That's how the crickets crick all day,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
As they ride down the street, the horse's skin changes color again from purple to red.
Carriage Driver and Chorus:
We get up at twelve and start to work at one,
Take an hour for lunch and then at two we're done.
Jolly good fun!
Again, the horse's body changes color, this time yellow.
Carriage Driver and Chorus:
Ha ha ha!
Ho ho ho!
And a couple of tra-la-la's,
That's how we laugh the day away,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
Eventually, the carriage stops infront of a beauty shop and salon called:
WASH & BRUSH UP CO.
The group disembarked from the carriage and proceeded up the stairs of the building as lines of spa workers, manicurists, and beauticians stood at the sides, ready to serve them.
Carriage Driver and Chorus:
Ha ha ha!
Ho ho ho!
Ha ha ha ha!
And a couple of tra-la-la's,
That's how we laugh the day away,
With a ho ho ho!
Ha ha ha!
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
The group enter the salon and prepare to wash and tidy up to look presentable for their meeting with the Wizard of Oz.
Inside the salon, Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion each were given their own special treatment. For Scarecrow, three male spa workers re-stuffed his body with new straws.
Spa Workers:
Pat pat here,
Pat pat there,
And a couple of brand-new straws.
That's how we keep you young and fair,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
Further down the salon, Tin Man laid out flat on a green metal table on his stomach while his body was polished by two male spa specialists. One rubbed him down with a yellow rag, and the other moved a large, circular buffer that was suspended from the ceiling back and forth over his back with his right-hand.
Spa Workers:
Rub rub here,
Rub rub there,
Whether you're tin or brass,
That's how we keep you in repair,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
Even further down in the salon, Dorothy was given a makeover and a manicure with Toto sitting on her lap as three beauticians surrounded her. She now had a blue bow tied on top the back of her head. Her lips more red with lipstick, her face powdered, and her hair was more loose with more curls to it.
Manicurst:
We can make a dimple smile out of a frown.
Dorothy:
Can you even dye my eyes to match my gown?
Manicurst:
Uh-huh!
Dorothy:
Jolly old town!
For Lion, he was surrounded by six beauticians, who used garden shears to clip his claws, and was given a curly perm for his mane that was adorned with red silk bow on top of his head.
Beauticians:
Clip-clip here,
Clip-clip there,
We give the roughest claws,
Lion:
That certain air of savoir faire,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
And for Devon, he was given a very special treatment like Dorothy as he was surrounded by five female spa attendants. His hair was washed and combed, his clothes were cleaned, smooth skin cream and fresh-scented cologne was sprayed and applied to his body, and he was given a relaxing massage while he sat down in a similar green spa chair with a soft, white towel around his neck, over his shoulders. One of the spa attendants stood behind the Keyblade Wielder, massaging his neck and shoulders, while the other four rubbed arms and legs. Soon, they were done and Devon stood up from the chair and stretched his arms out and twisted his body, feeling more refreshed than ever.
"Ohh... man. Mmm! Did I really need that." Devon groans
Devon took the towel from around his shoulders and gives it to one of the spa attendants.
"Splendid work, ladies. Thanks." Devon says
The five young women giggled in response to the Keyblade Wielder, thinking he was cute and handsome, for a 16 year old teenage boy. Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion met up with Devon, each finished with their treatment and feeling just as refreshed as he was.
Scarecrow:
Ha ha ha ha!
Tin Man:
Ho ho ho!
Dorothy:
Ah-haha-haha!
Lion:
Ha-o-o-o!
The group walked out of the salon and into the streets of Emerald City as they and the citizens outside all sang together.
Dorothy/Scarecrow/Tin Man/Lion/Chorus:
That's how we laugh the day away,
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
That's how we laugh the day away,
With a ha ha ha!
Ha ha ha!
Ha ha ha!
Ha ha ha!
Ha ha ha!
Ha ha ha!
In the Merry Old Land of Oz.
Ha ha ha!
Ho ho ho!
Ha ha ha!
Ho ho ho!
(In the Merry Old Land of Oz - Ends)
Suddenly, the joyful moment was interrupted as everyone heard a loud whooshing sound. Gasps and screams of the city's citizens filled the streets. The group looks up and they saw the Wicked Witch flying high across the sky on her broomstick, leaving a trail of thick, big black smoke behind her. And judging by the way she was flying, she seemed to be writing something in the sky for the group on the ground to read.
"Oh, no. Not her again." Devon groans
"Who's her? Who's her?" Lion asks
"It's the Witch! She's followed us here!" Dorothy says
Soon, the group could see that the Wicked Witch wrote for them a threatening message that said:
"Surrender Dorothy and Devon." Lion reads
"Ohh!" Dorothy gasps
The citizens of Emerald City also saw the sky writing and they questioned who or what it meant.
"Dorothy? Who's Dorothy?" Ozian woman #1 asks
"And who's Devon?" Ozian Man #1 asks
"The Wizard will explain!" Ozian Woman #2 exclaims
"To the Wizard!" Ozian Man #2 exclaims
"To the Wizard!" Ozian Man #3 exclaims
The citizens panicked and began rushing toward the Palace of Oz, where the Wizard resided.
"Oh, dear. Whatever shall we do?" Dorothy asks
"We'd better hurry if we're gonna see the Wizard." Scarecrow says
"Right! Let's get going! Come on!" Devon says
Moving quickly, the group follows the crowd down the street towards the Wizard's Palace, which was a big, beautiful building in the middle of Emerald City. Before the doors of the palace stood a tall soldier with long brown whiskers, wearing a green uniform, green gloves, and a tall hat with a waving plume, carrying a long bronze staff tipped with colorful flowers. His name was Wantowin Battles, and he served as a palace guard for the Wizard of Oz. The soldier saw the huge crowd rushing toward the palace and he waves his hands to calm them down.
"Here! Here, here! It's alright! Stop that now! Just have a... It's, it's alright. The Great and Powerful Oz has got matters well in hand, I hope. So, you can all go home and there's nothing to worry about. Get out of here now! Go on! Go on home! Uh... Go home." Wantowin says
While the crowd leaves, Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion make their way over to the soldier and request to meet the Wizard.
"If you please, sir, we wanna see the Wizard right away. All five of us." Dorothy says
"Orders are nobody can see the Great Oz! Not nobody, not nohow!" Wantowin says
"Oh, but-but, please. It's very important." Dorothy says
"And I got a permanent just for the occasion." Lion says
"Not nobody, not nohow!" Wantowin shouts raising his voice
"But she's Dorothy!" Scarecrow says
"And he's Devon!" Lion says
Wantowin examines Devon and Dorothy in turn, looking over Dorothy first on his right, then shifts his gaze over to Devon on his left.
"The Witch's Dorothy? And he's Devon, the Keyblade Wielder?" Wantowin asks
"That's right." Tin Man says
"Yeah. Show 'im your Keyblade, Devon." Lion says
Devon nods his head and stretches his right-hand out infront of him, summoning Soul Calibur into his grip in a flash of blue light, surprising the soldier as he stared with a stunned expression.
"Well, that makes a difference. Wait here and I'll announce you at once." Wantowin says
With that, the soldier turns and heads into the palace, opening the left door and walking inside to inform the Wizard of Oz, while the group waits outside. Each of them felt excited as they were finally going to meet the Wizard.
"Did you hear that? He'll announce us at once! I've as good as got my brain!" Scarecrow says
"I can fairly hear my heart beating." Tin Man says
"I'll be home in time for supper." Dorothy says
"You'll be back with your folks in no time, Dorothy." Devon says
"In another hour, I'll be King of the Forest. Long live the king!" Lion says
Lion turns and walks up the four steps of a small garden that was nearby as fanfare music fills the air. Once he reaches the top of the stairs, Lion turns around and starts to sing.
(If I Were King Of The Forest - Starts)
Lion:
If I were King of the Fore-e-e-e-est.
Not Queen,
Not Duke,
Not Prince.
My regal robes of the fore-e-e-e-est,
Would be satin,
And not cotton,
And not chintz.
I'd command each thing,
Be it fish or fowl,
With a Woof!
And a Woof!
And a royal growl.
Woof.
Lion clicked his right-heel and stood straight, gesturing out with his right-paw.
Lion:
As I click my heel,
All the trees would kneel,
And the mountains bow,
And the bulls kowtow!
Then, the anthropomorphic creature brings his paws together over his chest as he sung with a soft voice.
Lion:
And the sparrow would take wi-i-i-ing,
If I, if I were a ki-i-i-i-i-ing.
Each rabbit would show respect to me.
The chipmunks genuflect to me.
Though my tail would lash,
I would show compash,
For every underli-i-i-i-i-ing!
If I, if I were ki-i-i-i-i-i-i-ing!
Just ki-i-i-i-i-i-i-ing.
Scarecrow and Tin Man both take a rolled up green carpet and rolls it out down the stairs like it were a red carpet. Devon and Dorothy walk over to the end of the carpet while Lion descends down the stairs with his furry arms crossed, looking proud as if he were a real king. Upon reaching the end, Devon, Scarecrow, and Tin Man pick up a wide, dark green, round diamond-shaped carpet that had a thick outline of white flowers and set it on Lion's shoulders to make him really look like a king. Wearing his royal robes and cape, Lion walks back up along the carpet as though he were walking across the aisle of a throne room and ascending the stairs to his throne while Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Tin Man hold up the back. Tin Man steps away for a moment, takes a green flowerpot and breaks it with the back of his silver axe, causing the white flowers that were planted inside to fall out.
Lion:
Monarch of all I survey-y-y-y.
With the broken piece in his hand, Tin Man places it up on Lion's head like a crown.
Lion:
Mo-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-narch
Of all I survey-y-y-y!
(If I Were King Of The Forest - Ends)
Devon summons his crystal Keyblade into his hand, turns it over so the blade was pointed downward and plants it into the street. He then kneels down on his right-knee before the kingly lion. Dorothy bows to Lion, following Devon's example, then steps up to address him.
"Your Majesty, if you were king, you wouldn't be afraid of anything?" Dorothy asks
"Not nobody! Not nohow!" Lion says
Lion descends down the stairs and Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Tin Man follow him as he walks over to the doors of the Wizard's Palace.
"Not even a Rhinoceros?" Scarecrow asks
"Imposserous!" Lion says glancing back over his right-shoulder at Scarecrow
"How about a Hippopotamus?" Devon asks
"Why, I'd trash him from top to bottomamus!" Lion says
"Supposing you met an Elephant?" Dorothy asks
"I'd wrap him up in cellophant!" Lion says glancing back at Dorothy on his right
"What if it were a Brontosaurus?" Tin Man asks
"I'd show him who's King of the Forest!" Lion says glancing back right at Tin Man
"How?" Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Tin Man asks
"How?" Lion says glancing back once more at the group
Lion turns around and faces his friends, dropping his royal robe and cape.
"Courage! What makes a king out of a slave? Courage!" Lion says
Lion raises his right-paw up.
"What makes the flag on the mast to wave? Courage. What makes the elephant charge his tusks in the misty mist, or the dusky dusk? What makes the muskrat guard his musk? Courage! What makes the Sphinx the seventh wonder?! Courage!" Lion says
Again, Lion raises his right-paw, gesturing to the sky.
"What makes the dawn come up like thunder?! Courage! What makes Hottentot so hot? What puts the 'Ape' in apricot?! What have they got that I ain't got?!" Lion says
"Courage." Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Tin Man say in unison leaning forward
"You can say that again." Lion says pointing with his left-paw and a smile
Lion chuckles, but then stops with a confused expression, wondering what he had just said. Suddenly, the moment was interrupted by the soldier, who came out from the palace, shouting at the group and causing Lion to jump with a start, making his crown fall off.
"Argh! The Wizard says go away!" Wantowin shouts
Having said that, the soldier turns back around and returns to the palace, slamming the doors shut behind him.
"What?!" Devon exclaims in disbelief
"Go away?" Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion say in unison
"Looks like we came a long way for nothing." Scarecrow says with a hint of sadness in his voice
Although the group was sad, none of them were more disappointed and upset than Dorothy was. This was, after all, her one chance to return back to Kansas, and now she might never get back home. She immediately broke down into tears and she slowly fell, sitting down at the top of the stairs.
"And I was so happy. I thought I was on my way home." Dorothy sobs
Devon, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion all lower down to the saddened Kansas girl to try and comfort her.
"Don't cry, Dorothy. We're gonna get you to the Wizard." Tin Man says
"We certainly are." Scarecrow says
Unknown to the group, Wantowin opened a square window in the right door and observed the quartet. Dorothy took out her handkerchief and held it close to her face as she dried her tears and sniffled.
"Auntie Em was so good to me, and I never appreciated it. Running away and hurting her feelings. Professor Marvel said she was sick. She may be dying, and it's all my fault." Dorothy sobs
Soon, Wantowin found himself crying for Dorothy. His whole face wet with tears.
"I'll never forgive myself. Never, never, never." Dorothy sobs shaking her head
Devon places his left-hand on Dorothy's right-shoulder, drawing her attention. Overcome with grief, she wraps her arms around him in a hug while he embraces her. The soldier sobbed loudly from where he was and begged for it all to stop.
"Please don't cry anymore. I'll get you in to see the Wizard somehow. Come on. I had an Aunt Em myself once." Wantowin sobs
The soldier closes the window and opens the doors, pulling them inwards and allowing the group entry. Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion head inside and walk down a long and lightly dimmed arched hallway. They travel down the hallway for a minute until Lion stops, feeling scared as he held his tail with both paws.
"Wait a minute, fellas. I was just thinkin' I really don't want to see the Wizard this much. I'd better wait for you outside." Lion says
Lion tries to turn around, but Scarecrow stops him.
"What's the matter?" Scarecrow asks
"Oh, he's just scared again." Tin Man says
"Don't you know the Wizard's gonna give you some courage?" Dorothy asks
"I'd be too scared to ask him for it." Lion sobs
"Then, we'll ask him for you. Trust me, Lion. There's nothing to be afraid of." Devon says patting Lion's right-shoulder twice with his left-hand
"I'd sooner wait outside." Lion says
Lion tries once more to head back, only to be stopped by Scarecrow again.
"Why? Why?" Dorothy asks
"Because I'm still scared!" Lion sobs
Lion pulls the tuft of his tail in his left-paw and turns around, whimpering and causing the others to turn around as well.
"What happened?" Scarecrow asks
"Somebody pulled my tail." Lion whimpers
Scarecrow looked down at Lion's tail and saw that it was him since his tail was in his paws.
"Oh, you did it yourself." Scarecrow says
"I, uh... oh." Lion stammers
Scarecrow pulls Lion's tail out of his grip and takes hold of his right-paw as Devon stands infront of the group and turns to face them.
"Alright, guys. Come on. This is what we came all this way for. We'll just walk down through this hallway, and we'll meet with the Wizard together. Now, let's go." Devon says spreading his hands out and pointing down the hallway with his right-index finger
Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion nod their heads in agreement. Devon turns and faces the rest of the hallway, and they all take a step forward. The doors on the other side of the hallway swing open with a loud voice calling the group.
"Come forward!" The voice says
"Tell me when it's over!" Lion whimpers
"I'll go first. You guys hang right behind me." Devon says
With Devon taking lead, the group slowly proceed down the hallway. Their nervousness increased with each step they took. Soon, they walk through the open doorway and enter the Wizard's Throne Chamber. It was an extravagant room with a green throne that stood atop a pedestal of many high steps in the back. Behind that was a giant green organ that shot out hot, flaming fire balls and green smoke into the air.
"Look at that! Look at that!" Lion whimpers
Lion sobs and tries to turn around, but Dorothy and Scarecrow keeps him in place as they hold his arms.
"I wanna go home!" Lion sobs
As they stood in the chamber, a giant, oversized, translucent green bald head appears floating over the throne, surrounded by green smoke and flames of shooting fire. This was the Wizard of Oz and he spoke with a powerful intimidating voice.
"I am Oz! The Great and Powerful! Who are you?"
Everyone, except Devon, shuddered with fright, unable to speak up.
"Who are you?" Oz asks
Finally, Devon steps forward with Dorothy to introduce themselves to the Wizard. The Keyblade Wielder places his right-hand over his chest and bows his head in respect.
"Oz, I'm Devon, the Keyblade Wielder you've heard of."
"A Keyblade Wielder, you say? Yes. I have heard much about them. They are much a legend in this land as I am!" Oz says
"Yes. And here is my Keyblade as proof." Devon says
Devon stretches his right-hand out and summons Soul Calibur in a flash of blue light, holding it out and presenting it to the Wizard.
"Glinda, the Good Witch of the North sent me and my friends to seek your help." Devon says
Dorothy steps forward and introduces herself next.
"And if you please, I am Dorothy. The small and meek."
The Kansas girl looks at Devon on her left, who nods his head, then faces the Wizard again.
"We've come to ask-" Dorothy says
Before she could speak more, bursts of flames shoot upward from the braziers that stood on both sides of the throne as the Wizard speaks.
"Silence!" Oz bellows
"Oh!" Dorothy gasps
Startled by the flames, Dorothy runs back over to his friends with Devon as he backs away slightly, still holding onto his glowing crystal Keyblade.
"Oh! Jiminy crickets!" Dorothy gasps
"The Great and Powerful Oz knows why you have come! Step forward, Tin Man!" Oz says
Tin Man looked over at his friends with his whole body rattling with fright, then he nervously takes seven small steps forward as he stands before the Wizard.
"You dare to come to me for a heart, do you? You clinking, clanking, clattering, collection of caliginous junk!" Oz says
Flames erupt from the braziers, startling Tin Man and causing him to shake even more.
"Oh-h-h!" Tin Man gasps
Slowly regaining his composure, the metal man speaks up.
"Eh, ye-yes, sir. Ye-ye-yes, Your Honor. You see, eh... a while back, we were walking down the Yellow Brick Road and, uh-" Tin Man says
Another burst of flames erupt from the braziers and the organ as the Wizard of Oz bellows his voice.
"Quiet!" Oz shouts
"Whoa-oh! Tin Man gasps
Tin Man jumps with fright and runs back over to his friends.
"And you, Scarecrow..." Oz says
Scarecrow hastily moves to the front and got down on his knees, bowing his head and hands to the Great and Powerful Wizard.
"...have the effrontery to ask for a brain? You billowing bale of bovine fodder!" Oz says
"Uh, umph... Yes, Your Honor. I mean, Your Excellency, I-I mean, Your-Your Wizardry!" Scarecrow stutters
"Enough!" Oz bellows
The straw man quickly rises up to his feet, but stumbles as he heads back over to his friends.
"And you, Lion." Oz says
Lion whimpers and looks at his friends, who urge him to go ahead. Mustering up whatever courage he had, Lion takes four small steps forward and stands before the giant green head.
"Well?!" Oz bellows
Ultimately afraid of the Wizard, Lion faints and falls backwards, collapsing onto the floor while his friends watch in shock. Dorothy gasps and both she and her friends kneel down to him. Scarecrow fanned Lion's head with his right-hand, trying to wake him up. Devon stared at the unconscious Lion, then grips his left-hand into a fist. Outraged by the Wizard's rude behavior, Devon stands up, turns around, and faces Oz.
"Hey, what the big idea?!" Devon yells
Dorothy was also angry with the Wizard and she speaks out against him.
"You ought to be ashamed of yourself! Frightening him like that when he came to you for help!" Dorothy yells
"You may be the ruler of Oz, Wizard, but that doesn't give you the right to treat your subjects so harshly!" Devon yells pointing Soul Calibur at the Wizard
More flames erupt from the braziers as the Wizard of Oz speaks with his intimidating voice.
"Silence, whippersnappers! The beneficent Oz has every intention of granting your requests." Oz says
Upon hearing that, Lion awakens and instantly sits up.
"What's that? What'd he say? Huh? What'd he say?" Lion asks looking back and forth at his friends
Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion rise back up onto their feet and stand with Devon as the Wizard of Oz continues to speak.
"But first, you must prove yourselves worthy by performing a very small task." Oz says
"And what is that?" Devon asks
"Bring me the broomstick of the Witch of the West." Oz says
The group couldn't believe their ears. The Wizard of Oz wanted them to go and try to defeat the Wicked Witch? After everything they went through just to get to Emerald City? Going after the evil hag would be like handing the Ruby Slippers to her on a silver platter. Right away, the group questioned such a task of hunting down the Wicked Witch, thinking it was impossible to accomplish.
"Okay, I wouldn't think of that as a small task. That is actually a very big task." Devon says
"Bu-bu-but, but if we do that, we'd have to kill her to get it." Tin Man says
"Bring me her broomstick and I'll grant your requests. Now go!" Oz says
"Well, but what if she kills us first?" Lion asks
"Well, if she kills us, the Witch gains control of the Ruby Slippers, she'll spread darkness all across Oz, enslave and murder countless innocent people, and conquer the world." Devon says in a sarcastic tone counting with his left fingers
Tired of the group's constant questioning, the Wizard of Oz bellows out with his intimidating voice, erupting with flames and green smoke.
"I said go!" Oz shouts loudly
Completely scared out of his wits, Lion jumps out of his friends' grip and took off running down the hallway.
"Lion! Lion, wait!" Devon exclaims
Devon chases after Lion, who was already down across the other side of the long hallway, and he jumps and dives out of the window on his right. The Keyblade Wielder steps out of the palace as the doors open for him and watches as the anthropomorphic beast took off fast down the street. Then, Dorothy came out with Scarecrow and Tin Man behind him. The Kansas girl was crying again, and she sat down onto the stairs.
"Oh, this is terrible! Terrible! Devon, what are we going to do?" Dorothy says
Devon stared at Dorothy, unable to answer her. He soon gazes down at the crystal Keyblade in his right-hand, thinking to himself. The last thing he wanted to do was to go after the Wicked Witch of the West, knowing that she was out to get him and Dorothy, and claim the Ruby Slippers for herself. But this was their one chance to prove themselves to the Wizard of Oz. He was already strong in terms of his powers with the Keyblade, but he knew not to underestimate the evil witch. No doubt she had tricks up her sleeve. Soon, Devon put on a calm, serious expression as he felt determined to help Dorothy get back home to Kansas and help grant the wishes of his friends.
"I guess we really don't have much of a choice. In order to gain the Wizard's favor, we're going to have to hunt down and defeat the Wicked Witch of the West." Devon says
Turning around, the Keyblade Wielder looks back at the Kansas girl, straw man, and metal man on his left.
"Come on! We've got an evil hag to put down." Devon says
And so, Devon, Dorothy, Scarecrow, and Tin Man left the palace to find Lion and begin with their new task: To find the Wicked Witch of the West, defeat her, and claim her broomstick for the Wizard of Oz.
