The following day after the events of June 6th, Devon and Harry traveled together to the Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom and decided to check up on Professor Lupin. The two boys walked down between the empty desks and up the stairs to the office, which had some swing music playing inside from the nearby record player. Upon entering, they saw Lupin standing by a tall bookshelf behind his desk with his back towards them, wearing a new gray suit. Devon was just about to knock on the door with his right-hand, but Lupin addressed them first.
"Hello, Harry. Hello, Devon." Lupin greets
The teacher turned around with a stack of three books in his hands and places them onto the desk before looking at the Keyblade Wielder and the wizard boy.
"I saw you coming." Lupin says pointing down at the Marauder's Map, which was also on the desk with his wand in his right-hand
Lupin waves his wand at a case near the door to the left of the boys and the case closes itself up, folding its three sides closed. Devon and Harry watched as this happened, then looked back at the teacher. They could see that he now had two fresh scars running down diagonally to the left across his upper and lower face, inflicted on him by Buckbeak when he saved the Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy from the Werewolf, and his right-hand was bandaged up, leaving just his fingers free to move.
"How are you feeling?" Devon asks
"Oh , much better." Lupin says
"Are you sure? Cause after what happened the other night with you turning into a Werewolf, and..." Devon says
"I've looked worse, believe me." Lupin says with a reassuring smile
Grabbing another stack of books, the teacher went back to his current task. Devon and Harry looked around the office and saw most of Lupin's things were packed. Stacks of books stood on his desk along with a brown leather bag. And to the right of the desk against the wall was his trunk, which was still open. Hanging from an inside open compartment on the left-side was another grey suit, and on the right-side of the trunk had a three-layered compartment that included two small drawers and shelves at the top, a larger drawer and a storage space for Lupin's books in the middle, and a space for Lupin's leather brown lace shoes, which sat at the bottom, along with two more small drawers on their right. Judging by what they saw, Devon and Harry could only realize what was happening with Lupin.
"You're packing up?" Devon asks
"You've been sacked." Harry says
"No. No. I resigned, actually." Lupin says
"Resigned? Why?" Harry asks
"Well, it seems that somebody let slip the nature of my condition. This time tomorrow, the owls will start arriving and parents will not want a, um... well, someone like me teaching their children." Lupin says
"Because you're a Werewolf? That's not your fault." Devon asks
"But Dumbledore..." Harry says
"Dumbledore has already risked enough on my behalf. Besides, people like me are, um... Well, let's just say that I'm used to it by now." Lupin says
Grabbing his wand, Lupin waves it at his trunk, magically closing it up. The grey suit retracted on its hanger into its compartment and a tan curtain fell over it from the top, the drawers slid closed, the books slid themselves inside the shelves, and the shoes stepped back into their space before the trunk seals itself closed with its three latches clicking securely into place. The music from the record player finished with its song and the office fell silent. Lupin looked back at the boys and he noticed that they had slightly sad looks on their faces.
"Why do you two look so miserable?" Lupin asks
"None of it made any difference. Pettigrew escaped." Harry says
"Yeah. He's probably far away from here by now. I promised Sirius we'd clear his name..." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder sighed.
"...but without Pettigrew to confess the crimes he framed him for, there's no way we'll be able to save Sirius from being a wanted man. The Ministry will still try to hunt him down." Devon says
"Didn't make a difference? Boys, it made all the difference in the world. You both helped uncover the truth. You saved an innocent man from a terrible fate. It made a great deal of difference." Lupin says
Devon and Harry both nodded their heads in agreement, knowing that what Lupin said was true. But there was one thing that got Devon wondering. Was Lupin always a Werewolf, or did he get bitten by one in his youth?
"If you don't mind me asking, Lupin. Did you always start out as a Werewolf in the beginning?" Devon asks
"No. Ahh... I have Fenrir Greyback to thank for my condition." Lupin says
"Fenrir Greyback?" Devon asks
"He's a nasty fellow, probably the most savage Werewolf alive today. Greyback is a very loyal supporter of Voldemort and Teridax and strives to turn as many people as he could into Werewolves. He prefers to attack children since they are more vulnerable." Lupin says
"So I'm guessing you had a terrible run in with this guy?" Devon says
"Yes. Back in my childhood. Greyback attacked me when I was five as a way of getting revenge on my father." Lupin says
Lupin turned his head and showed the boys a scar on the left-side of his neck. It was a bite mark left by Fenrir Greyback that had eight round puncture wounds.
"Bit me right here on the neck while I was sleeping." Lupin says
"Ouch." Devon says holding his neck with his right-hand
"I was lucky to have survived, but the attack made by Greyback left me scarred for life. My parents tried everything, but in those days there was no cure. Every month I became a full-fledged monster, a danger to everyone around me, my friends, even my family." Lupin says
"So, how did you manage all those years becoming a Werewolf?" Devon asks
"Wolfsbane Potion. It's a very complex brew invented by Damocles Belby in the recent past that helps to keep my mind when I transform... As long as I take it in the week preceding the full moon, I am able to curl up as a harmless wolf and wait for the moon to wane again. It's not exactly a cure for my lycanthropy, but it helps relieve the symptoms." Lupin says
"Wow. So I guess last night was just an example of how you were back then. I'm sorry you have to go through all that." Devon says
"Oh, it's quite alright, Devon. Like I said, I'm used to it." Lupin says
Grabbing his bag, the man walks around the right-side of his desk, grabs his coat and slings it over his left-arm, then turns to face the Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy.
"If I am proud of anything, it is how much you two have learned this year. Now, since I am no longer your teacher, I feel no guilt, whatsoever, about giving this back to you." Lupin says
Devon and Harry looks down at the Marauder's Map on the desk, then look back up at Lupin.
"So now I'll say good-bye, boys. I'm sure we'll meet again sometime. Until then..." Lupin says
Lupin glances down at the map on his left and holds up his wand.
"...mischief managed." Lupin says
With a wave of Lupin's wand, the Marauder's Map magically closes up with all its flaps folding inwards and the writing on the parchment fades away. Lupin chuckles. Devon and Harry both smile and the Keyblade Wielder bids the kind wizard farewell.
"Well, see you around, Lupin. You were, by far, the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher we've had here at Hogwarts. Far better than the other two, that's for sure." Devon says giving the wizard a pat on his left-shoulder with his left-hand
Lupin smiles and nods his head.
"Thanks, Devon. And good luck to you on your journey." Lupin says
And having said that, Lupin walks out the door to the office, heads down the stairs, and takes his leave. Devon and Harry watch from the stairs as the friendly wizard makes his way through the classroom, passing the desks closest to the three windows on his way out.
Later that afternoon, Devon and Harry head down to the Great Hall and enter the large, wide hall. They saw Hermione, Ron, who was using a wooden crutch for his injured right-leg, and their other fellow Gryffindors, who were gathered around their table, looking down at something.
"Stand back, I said. Or I'll-or I'll take it upstairs if you don't settle." Ron says
The Gryffindors looked over towards the entrance of the hall when they saw the Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy walking towards them.
"Harry! Devon!" Neville exclaims
Neville and Seamus run over to Devon and Harry with looks of excitement.
"Wherever did you get them?" Neville asks
"Get what?" Devon asks
"Can I have a go, Harry? After you, of course." Seamus asks
"What are you talking about?" Harry asks
"Yeah, quiet! Let them through." Ron says
Devon and Harry made their way over to Ron, wondering why everyone was gathered around the table.
"Ron, what's going on?" Devon asks
"Uh, I-I didn't mean to open it. I-I-It, uh, they were badly wrapped. Uh, they made me do it." Ron says pointing his right-index finger towards Fred and George
"Did not." Fred and George say in unison
The Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy looks down at the table and they saw two large packages, crudely wrapped in brown paper. Pulling the paper away, they were revealed to be two brand new world-class broomsticks named the Firebolt. These broomsticks were state-of-the-art, sporting a streamlined superfine handle of ash and ebony, treated with a diamond-hard polish. Each individually selectedbirchtwig in the broomtail was honed to aerodynamic perfection, giving the Firebolt unsurpassable balance and pinpoint precision. The Firebolt had an unbelievable acceleration of speed, capable of going from 0 to 150 miles an hour in ten seconds and were enchanted with an unbreakable Braking Charm that helped them stop faster. And the metal parts of the broom weregoblin-made ironwork, a first for a broomstick, which increased stability and power in adverse conditions and prevented slippage on the foot grips.
"New broomsticks?" Devon asks
"These are Firebolts. They're the fastest broomsticks in the world. The first ever made." Seamus says
"There's one for you too, Devon." Neville says
"Really?" Devon asks
Devon and Harry both ran their right-hands along the broom's handles, feeling the incredible smoothness of the polished wood. They were the first in the Wizarding World to ever own incredible broomsticks such as these.
"Wow... The fastest brooms in the world." Devon says amazed
"For us? But who sent them?" Harry asks
"No one knows." Ron says
Hermione grabbed hold of a large gray feather that came with the broomsticks and held it up in her left-hand with a smile.
"This came with them." Hermione says
The Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy stared at the feather as Hermione held it up. They recognized it as one of Buckbeak's feathers. And right away, the two boys knew who it was that sent the Firebolts.
"Sirius..." Devon whispers
Devon wondered how Sirius was able to acquire the new broomsticks, but supposed it didn't really matter. Glancing back down at the two Firebolts, Devon and Harry both smiled and felt eager and excited to give their new broomsticks a test drive.
"Oh, we gotta try these bad boys out." Devon says
All the students in Gryffindor, as well as those in Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, followed Devon and Harry outside to the Clock Tower Courtyard as they ran with their Firebolts in their right-hands, curious to see what the broomsticks could do.
"Show us what they can do." Angelina says
"We're bound to win the Quidditch cup now." Bem says
"Go on, Harry! Go on, Devon!" Seamus says
"Yeah, let's see!" Neville says
"How fast is it?" Hermione asks
"Yeah, how fast does it go?" Dean asks
"Hang on. Wait for me. I want to see this, too." Ron says
Everyone gathered to watch as the Keyblade Wielder and wizard boy mounted themselves onto their new broomsticks and grabbed hold of the handles. As soon as they were on their Firebolts, the two boys yelped in surprise as they felt a sudden, instant burst of acceleration, taking off into the air.
"Oh!" Devon exclaims
"Whoa!" Harry exclaims
All the students in the courtyard cheered for Devon and Harry, pointing up at them as they flew into the sky. Malfoy and his gang were also in the courtyard, though they watched with sour, jealous expressions. On the grounds near Hagrid's hut, Alura LightHeart and her Unicorn Sisters also saw Devon and Harry as they took off from the castle and they cheered for them as well.
"There goes Devon and Harry." Alura says
"Yep. With their new broomsticks." Stella says
"Wow! Look at them go!" Sylvia exclaims
"Yeah! They're really flying fast!" Leila exclaims
"They must be going well over 100 miles an hour with that speed!" Evelyn exclaims
"That's our boys! Whoo-hoo!" Brianna cheers rearing up on her hind legs
Up in the sky, Devon and Harry were both having the time of their lives on their new broomsticks, screaming and laughing as they now soared hundreds of feet above Hogwarts and flying incredibly fast.
"Ahhhhhh ha haaaaaaaaaa!" Harry hollers and laughs
"Whooo hoo hoooooooo!" Devon hollers thrusting his right-hand into the air
Later that day, with the third year of Hogwarts concluded, the students all gathered at Hogsmeade Station to board the Hogwarts Express for their summer vacation. Devon stood on the platform with his Firebolt in his left-hand infront of Harry, Ron, and Hermione, ready to bid them farewell.
"Some year, huh?" Devon says
The Wizarding Trio nod their heads in agreement.
"Yeah. Quite." Harry says
"So, Harry, you going back to the Dursleys?" Devon asks
"After what happened before? No. I think I'll stay with Ron back at the Burrow this time." Harry says
"I think I will also." Hermione says
"Well that's good. At least the three of you will be together." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder looked at his new broomstick in his hand as his thoughts went towards the new addition on his list of friends: Sirius Black. Although he was happy that Sirius was free, he still wished they could've maintained their capture of Peter Pettigrew and prevented his escape.
"Still, it's a shame that Pettigrew managed to escape. No doubt he'll be going straight to Lord Voldemort." Devon says
"Wherever he is." Harry says
"And with Pettigrew helping him, we can pretty much guarantee that Voldemort will return. And we'd best be ready when that time comes." Devon says
Soon, the black and red train blew its whistle, which sounded off loudly in the air, announcing a last call for its departure.
"Alright. You three better get onboard." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder walks closer to the Wizarding Trio and shakes each of their hands in turn. He starts with Hermione's first on his left, then Harry. For Ron, because of his injury, Devon simply gives him a pat on his left-shoulder with his right-hand.
"Take care you guys. I'll see you all next year. And maybe, when we meet up again, I'll get to introduce you all to my friends." Devon says
"Looking forward to it, mate." Ron says
"Oh, yeah. Definitely." Harry says nodding his head
"Good luck with your Mark of Mastery Exam, Devon. I know you'll turn out to be a great Keyblade Master." Harry says
"Same." Ron says
"Me too. We all believe in you, Devon." Hermione says
Devon smiled.
"Heh. Thanks." Devon says
And so, having said their good-byes, Harry, Ron, and Hermione boarded the Hogwarts Express as it blew its whistle again. As soon as the Wizarding Trio stepped onboard, the black and red train chugged and hissed, beginning its departure from the station. By now, Devon was the only one left on the platform. The Keyblade Wielder watched the Hogwarts Express as it took off down the railroad tracks, then looks at his Firebolt. Staring at the new broomstick, Devon looked back at all the things he had experienced so far in his third visit in the Wizarding World. Soul-sucking Dementors, Animagus and Werewolves, Hippogriffs, Time-Turners, the Patronus Charm, and now he and Harry have the fastest broomstick in the world.
"Yep. Just another exciting year at Hogwarts." Devon says
Devon looks back at the Hogwarts Express, which let out another loud whistle as it was now already far out in the distance along the tracks, then glances up at the sky as a large, circular section shatters open, revealing the sleeping keyhole. Soul Calibur appears in Devon's right-hand in a flash of blue light, reacting to the presence of the keyhole. A pure aura envelopes Devon's body and his crystal Keyblade begins to shine brightly with its benevolent light. Aiming his Keyblade up at the sky, Devon shoots a beam of light, striking the keyhole and causing it to shine brightly. Devon stares at the light as it engulfs him and smiles as he continues onward with the final sleeping world for his Mark of Mastery Exam.
Author's Note: And that wraps up Year 3 of the Harry Potter series. Devon and Harry both say farewell to Remus Lupin, for now, and they recieve the new, world-class Firebolt, gifts courtesy of their new friend, Sirius Black. Now, its time to move onto the final sleeping world in Devon's Mark of Mastery Exam: Distant Galaxy for Star Wars Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith! And just to refresh everyone's memory, Dinotopia will be included in the Dream Drop Distance storyline as a separate story along with a few others that I will post later on. I will reveal my plans for those as well as others once this project is finished. Also, on a saddening note, I've been hit with another tragedy in my family. A very good friend of my mother's and me, who was the father of another friend of hers recently died from cardiac heart failure recently early in the hospital around 8:15 AM. He was a widowed 73 year old man of his wife and daughter, both of whom are also dead and friends to both me and my mother. The wife died first long ago, then just a couple months ago the daughter passed, if you all remember from my last post back in November, and now just a few weeks after Easter. But I'd like to think of it this way: at least now he's reunited with them in Heaven. And just as Sirius said to Harry: "The ones that love us never really leave us." Anyways, let me know what you guys think. No flames please. Hope you guys like and don't forget to review!
