Yamcha and Bulma currently sat across from each other in a ramen restaurant. Two great looking bowls of ramen lay in front of them, both barely touched since they had just arrived. Yamcha, though, was still rubbing his cheek from Bulma's surprisingly hard punch.
"Did you seriously have to punch me, Bulma?!" Yamcha said, clearly aggravated.
Bulma quickly shushed him "Shhh. I don't want people to know I'm around here. I just wanna enjoy myself today..."
Yamcha sighed "Well... Anyway. What's been going on lately?"
Bulma threw out a heavy sigh "Dealing with Prince Pain In My Ass for one thing."
Yamcha grumbled "Vegeta... Sorry I'm not strong enough to help you with him"
Bulma waved it off "Don't worry, he's just annoying. He's like a little kid. But it helps that Goku is around now too"
"Huh? Goku's at your place? Why is he there? I thought he'd be training?" Yamcha questioned
Bulma immediately gasped and covered her mouth 'CRAP! I can't tell him what's been going on with Chichi and Goku!' "Oh... Uh... Goku is... keeping an eye out for any suspicious behavior from Vegeta for me... and I agreed to watch Gohan and help him study for Chichi hehe"
"Oh? Well that's good." Yamcha said with a smile "Gotta say, I wasn't too fond of the idea of you and Vegeta being around each other for such a long time."
Bulma tilted her head "Oh please, I can handle the whiney Prince."
Yamcha sighed "That's not what I meant. I mean... I mean that... I don't like you being around Vegeta because I feel like he wouldn't treat you like you deserve to be treated."
Bulma chuckled "Oh I've gotta hear this. And how should I be treated Mr Ex Boyfriend."
Yamcha gulped "Uh... Well... You should be treated with respect, praised for your intellect, shown nothing but the best love and care."
Bulma hummed to herself as she ate some of her ramen. "Now I remember why I fell for you. As sweet of a talker as you were, you couldn't back it up if you tried"
Yamcha immediately deflated "Cut me some slack... I'm complimenting you, plus I paid for your food."
Both continued to eat for a bit as Yamcha's words went through Bulma's head 'Hmmm I certainly can't say he's wrong. Yamcha is more of a talker than a do'er though. Vegeta would probably come around but I don't feel like chipping away at that tough exterior for years, if he even stays that long. Maybe Goku could... Goku ... Could...' a blush rose to her cheeks 'Goku'.
Yamcha finished his bowl of ramen first and smiled "Phew! That was great!" He then looked to Bulma and saw a one thousand yard stare in her eyes. "Uhhh Bulma?... You ok?"
Bulma panicked but quickly shook her head, "I'm fine. Just... Thinking..."
Yamcha shrugged "Welp." He then stood up "I'm gonna head out. I got baseball practice in a half hour"
Bulma nodded "Gotcha... Hey Yamcha?"
He turned to her just as he was leaving "Huh?"
Bulma took a moment to think about her words "... You've been in lots of relationships right?... Well... If you wanted to do something nice for someone who recently went through heartbreak. What would you do?"
Yamcha was immediately confused "Uhh... Why are you asking?"
Bulma gulped "Um... Just curious"
Yamcha thought about it for a moment and shrugged "Well... Heartbreak is a big thing for some, just show them a good time. Occupy their head with something you know they like. That usually helps."
Bulma was immediately put into her thought process zone. Thinking of what to do for her best friend.
"Anyway, Bye!" Yamcha waved.
Bulma snapped out of her thought process "Oh! Bye!"
After finishing her meal, Bulma wandered around the town more to drink in the scenery. Sure, it wasn't natural but it was beautiful in its own right. Eventually though, she saw a kid swinging on a metal bar at a playground in a nearby park. It reminded her of how Goku used to swing so happily from tree to tree with his Saiyan tail.
"Such a weird little guy" Bulma whispered to herself as she sat down on a nearby bench and watched the kids play. "I bet Gohan would like to come here now and again ... I wouldn't mind taking him, what with his training and studies. Kids gotta have at least a little bit of fun."
As she watched them, she began to think about her own childhood. She'd never really thought about it, but she didn't have friends like she does now. Her father was already pretty wealthy and often times her mom would play little games with her. That was how she learned about boys and boyfriends. Her mother had planted the seed that finding a good man to be with was amazing. Leading to Bulma taking the adventure she did and running into a boy that certainly did take her on amazing adventures.
Bulma thought back to the days of old... Seeing Goku take a bullet like a beesting was definitely crazy enough, but lifting her car made her realize this boy was something special.
'Heh... Goku really is the start of it all isn't he... If only I knew he'd grow up to be so handsome... And if only he still wasn't so stupid at the time... Can't believe he thought my lips were bleeding...' she snapped out of her daze when she felt something on her leg. She looked down to see a little kid with black hair nuzzled against her knee.
"Can we go home now...?" The kid said
Bulma easily deduced that this child was a girl and gently stroked her head "I'm sorry but. I think you have the wrong person."
The girl looked up and Bulma's blue eyes met the little girls black eyes. They stared at each other for a moment before the little girl jumped back "Ah! I'm sorry!"
Bulma waved her off "Don't be, it's ok. Just try and be more careful okay?" She smiled at the girl who seemed to be about Gohan's age from the looks of it. "So, where's your mom and dad?"
The little girl began looking around a bit and said "I'm... I'm here with my Dad's new girlfriend... But I can't find her..."
Bulma immediately felt bad for the kid "oh uh... I'm sorry... Do you know what she looks like?"
The girl thought about it "I only met her earlier today, so all I can remember is her blue hair" she said simply.
Bulma sighed "Really?" 'Of course it's someone with blue hair like me' "Well, wanna go look for em?" She said, extending a hand to the child.
The child took a step back "Eh?! D-Dad, always says not to trust strangers!"
Bulma was getting a bit annoyed but shrugged it off "Look... You don't have to hold my hand or anything, I'm just asking if you wanna look for your gaurdian so no one else sees you all alone."
The girl was a bit skeptical but nodded "... O-Okay..."
Bulma stood up "Welp. Better get to stepping. Do you remember what they were wearing?"
The girl put her finger to her bottom lip "Hmmmm a red hat and jacket like you, but I think it had more white on it."
Bulma nodded "Gotcha. Where were you two last?"
The girl then started guiding Bulma to various areas of the park we're they had been, a bench, a swing, a place to use the restrooms.
Finally after a while they ended up back at the park walking around slowly to see if they'd find this other woman walking around.
"... I'm sorry about all of this" the girl said suddenly.
Bulma was certainly surprised by the kids statement but shrugged it off "It's no worry. I just don't think leaving a kid alone is a great idea."
The girl sighed "... I only asked to come here because I wanted to have fun..."
Bulma was listening carefully and smiled "Well good. I hope you did."
"... I didn't..." The girl responded
Bulma groaned "Yeah, getting lost isn't fun but-"
"Not that..." The girl interrupted "I don't know how to play with others... They either get scared of me or wanna beat me up..."
Bulma was almost appalled at that "Why? Did you do anything to them?"
She shook her head no. "I was just trying to make friends..."
Bulma took pity on the young girl, she certainly didn't seem like she was bratty enough to not have friends. She was pretty cute. And she seemed bright enough. There wasn't much of a reason she could think of, as for why she had no friends. "I'm sorry to hear that... You know... You'll have friends one day... Maybe even sooner than you know"
The girl stopped before turning to the lady "... Thank you" she stated
Bulma then smiled "Hey. Why not come back to this park tomorrow, I think I have someone who wouldn't mind being your friend"
"Huh? Who?" The girl asked
Bulma only chuckled "Shhh. It will be a surprise"
The girl nodded "Okay... I hope they're nice."
"There you are!" Both girls turned to see a woman with long blue hair and a red and white baseball hat and jacket, approaching them "I've been looking everywhere for you!" She then looked up. "Wait... Huh?"
Bulma sighed 'Seriously?...' "Hi, Marron"
Marron sighed "Excuse me but that wasn't very nice."
The girl then went to Marron's side. "Guess you did find her though so I'll give ya my thanks" Marron offered.
Bulma crossed her arms "What were you doing, anyway?"
Marron smiled "Oh! I heard an ice cream truck and went to go get some ice cream for her and I."
Bulma sighed "Okay... So where is hers?"
Marron grumbled "I got hungry and couldn't find her, plus it was melting!"
The girl sighed. She could have really gone for some food right about now.
Bulma noticed this and sighed "Go get her something to eat, ok?"
Marron scoffed "Geez... Why do you gotta be so bossy..." She turned to the girl "Let's go"
The young girl nodded "Bye, Lady." She said as she waved.
Bulma chuckled, she forgot to even tell the girl her name "The names Bulma, kid. Like I said, I'll bring you a playmate tomorrow. Got a name I can give him?"
She nodded "Yup! The names Videl! I'll see ya later!"
Marron and Videl then began to walk away as Bulma watched them "Ugh... Finally, that's over... Hope Gohan doesn't mind hanging out with her tomorrow." She then began to notice just how close she was to her house. "Guess my walk can end here... It was nicer than I thought" she stated as she began the walk home.
Meanwhile, Goku , Gohan and Piccolo we're all training in the mountains where they knew they wouldn't be bothered. Gohan was given the arduous task of fending off attacks from both Goku and Piccolo at the moment.
He certainly was getting a workout in but when Goku connected with a punch to the ribs. Gohan immediately felt winded "Guh!..."
Both adults stopped their onslaught as Goku was quick to check on his son "Gohan, just focus on breathing..."
Gohan took a moment to catch his breath and finally laid back in the dirt "I think... That did me in..."
Piccolo scoffed "If that's all it takes then it's no wonder the androids beat us in the future..."
Goku turned to him "Piccolo..."
Gohan almost couldn't feel his muscles as he tried too move them.
"Gotta remember he's gonna get stronger from this, have patience, Piccolo" Goku told the Namekian.
Piccolo hmphed as he crossed his arms "... Whatever... At least you both are getting stronger."
Piccolo then looked at Goku and sighed "... Goku." He said, grabbing the Saiyans attention. "Mind if I have a word with you?" He said as he pointed to an area a bit a away from Gohan.
Goku nodded and laid Gohan up against a rock before going to were Piccolo was. Thankfully he could still see Gohan, just in case.
"... What happened" Piccolo asked rather abruptly
Goku looked confused "Whadaya mean?"
The Namekian sighed "I mean, in your life ... You seemed out of it during our first training session, then you bring Bulma for one, now you seem... Puzzled."
Goku smirked "Can't put anything past you, can I..." He took a moment to breath "... Chichi kicked me out of the house recently, Gohan decided to tag along but just the other day, she told me she wanted us back... But she never seems to get the big picture. She always wants Gohan to study rather than focus on getting stronger."
"Studying your opponent as well as your own technique is good for you, Goku." Piccolo added
Goku shook his head "No. Like, math and stuff. He writes more numbers on all these papers with numbers and Chichi says it makes him smart but... I dunno, at times, Gohan seems not to mind it but recently... He wanted to focus on saving the earth."
Piccolo looked dumbfounded "Why does Gohan need to learn that?"
Goku shrugged "Chichi always said 'to become a scholar' whatever that is."
Piccolo almost blew his stack right then and there "What good is being a scholar if the world ends!"
Goku chuckled and sat down "That's what I thought... But recently, Bulma took us in. She's been nothing but nice, and told me she wanted to get strong enough to get her family out of harms way, should anything go wrong when the androids arrive. I thought it was a fair point, so I decided to train her."
Piccolo let out a sigh as he sat down "Goku... You should be focusing on your own training. If you do that, she might not need to run in the first place."
Goku nodded "I know... But this is kinda like me repaying her kindness. I get what your saying, but I think we'll be able to handle the threat once it comes."
Piccolo looked at Goku for a moment before sighing "... Just make sure your getting stronger... The last thing I need is for you to lose sight of what's truly important."
Goku looked up the sky "Trust me. I haven't lost sight of what's important... If anything, I'm focusing on it more than ever before."
Piccolo looked over to Gohan who was now completely asleep. The Namekian was unimpressed but knew Gohan was still just a boy. "You two can leave for today, if we wake him now, he'll just be tired the whole time."
Goku chuckled and stood up "Wonder where he gets that from!"
Piccolo once again was unimpressed but stood up with Goku and looked at him once more "Take care, Goku."
"Same to you, Piccolo" Goku stated before grabbing Gohan, giving the Namekian a farewell and flying into the sky back to Capsule Corporation.
After flying for quite a while, he did make it back but just as evening started. Once he came in, he could see someone working in the kitchen, probably on dinner.
Goku wanted to lay Gohan on the couch at first but since he'd worked up a sweat, he elected to lay him down on the bed in his room. He just hoped he'd be up before dinner.
Once Goku made his way back downstairs he went in the kitchen expecting to see Mrs Briefs, only to see Bulma!
Bulma was working on quite a few different foods and although she was looking busy, she also seemed happy. This made Goku happy as well, he was a bit worried leaving her here with Vegeta but it seems to have been fine. "Heya, Bulma" he greeted.
"Huh?" Bulma turned "Oh! Goku. Surprised your back so early."
Goku nodded "I uh... May have hit Gohan too hard in the stomach"
"What?!" Bulma yelled before sighing, remembering who she was talking to. "I know he's tough but he's not exactly at your level Goku, you gotta pull some punches here and there"
Goku took a seat at the table "I know, but I keep thinking about how the androids won't hold back."
Bulma smirked "Oh please" with quite the sexy grin and her shoulder length blue hair shining from the light, coming through the window, she stated "If the androids even try to touch Gohan. I know you'd knock em dead."
Goku couldn't help but give a big smile in response to her words, thinking back to some of his own from earlier. 'Trust me. I haven't lost sight of what's important... If anything, I'm focusing on it more than ever before.'
