(The Celestial Temple)
After their daring rescue in the World That Never Was and escaping Teridax' evil trap, Sora, Riku, Mickey, and Lea, along with Donald, Goofy, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, Stormfly, Fishlegs, Meatlug, Snotlout, Hookfang, Tuffnut, Ruffnut, Barf and Belch returned to the Celestial Temple with the comatose Devon and explained everything they had learned to the Inheritor, Vervada, Master Yen Sid, and Ignitus. Returning to the Realm of Light, Devon, Sora, and Riku were back to wearing the clothes they wore during their second adventure.
"Seven Guardians of Light, Thirteen Seekers of Darkness. It would seem the Dark Lord has been busy." Master Yen Sid says
Devon was placed in an upright position to the right of the Inheritor's desk, sitting with his back against the star-themed walls of the room and his hands resting over the other, while his friends looked down at him with worried expressions. Lea leaned against the wall not far from the group with his arms crossed. Vervada and Ignitus stood nearby on the right, sharing concerned glances with each other. Sora, Riku kneeled down to Devon on his right with Donald, Goofy, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout, and the Thorston Twins behind them, while Mickey stood on the left. Toothless, Stormfly, Meatlug, Hookfang, Barf and Belch whimpered and whined, each bearing a saddened expression. Toothless walks around to Devon's left-side and gently nudges the young teen's head with his snout to try and wake him up, but no reaction.
Out of everyone in the room, no one was more worried or upset than Devon's female Night Fury, Luna. She laid close to her beloved rider with her body curled next to him on his right, her head resting on his lap with a sad look on her face. Toothless, aware of Luna's sadness, walks over to her side and nuzzles her head just as he did for Devon, crooning as he offered comfort. The female Night Fury lifted her head up to look at her fellow dragon for a brief moment before resting her head back down on her rider's lap with a whimpering sigh.
"Aw, Devon. Don't tell me your heart's sleeping too." Mickey says
"No, Mickey. This affliction is not the same." The Inheritor says
"Is there anything we can do for him?" Riku asks glancing back on his right
"Yeah. There has to be something." Sora says
"In your Mark of Mastery Exam, you were to unlock the Sleeping Keyholes. By doing so, you would awaken those worlds from their prison of slumber, and also acquire the power to free a heart from it's sleep. Sora, Riku, you both unlocked the Keyholes from the Realm of Sleep. Therefore, it stands to reason that you now have the power to awaken Devon's heart." Master Yen Sid says
"You want them to dive into Devon's sleep? But Master, Devon's heart is down in the darkest abyss. If Sora and Riku are not careful, they might just get trapped down there with him. No... I'll go instead." Mickey says
The Inheritor turns right in his floating chair and rises up from his seat, walking over to the group with Master Yen Sid on his right.
"And perhaps you may even succeed, Mickey. But there is no denying that Sora and Riku, working together, stand a much better chance." The Inheritor says
Sora and Riku look over at Mickey as he glances down in worry, then glanced back Donald, Goofy, Spyro, Cynder, the Viking Teens and the dragons as they looked down with saddened expressions. The two boys turned back to Devon and glanced down at Luna with her head still on his lap, then shared glances with each other before clenching their hands into fists and nodding their heads with determination.
"Mickey... we really appreciate it. But... we'll go wake Devon up." Riku says
"Yeah. Leave it to us." Sora says pointing to himself with his right-thumb
"Sora... Riku..." Mickey says
"No. He's right." Luna says
Everyone looks over at the female Night Fury as she lifts her head up and rises to her feet, turning to the mouse king.
"Mickey, we all know you're strong, but if there's anyone who can help my rider, it's Sora and Riku. I believe in them, just as I believe in Devon." Luna says
Luna glances up at the spikey and silver-haired teens, who smiled and nodded their heads, then they all turn to Devon as he slept. The female Night Fury smiles as she gazes upon her rider.
"Ahh... Look at him. Resting so peacefully, so calmly. Exactly the way I found him back on Berk when we first met. Like there's not a care in the world." Luna says
Riku places his left-hand on the black dragoness and rubbed her head.
"Yep. That's Devon for ya. He's always been like that. Back on the island, me, Sora, Kairi, and Devon would work on building the raft to travel the sea, but sometimes he'd go take a nap on the beach." Riku says
"Hee hee... Really?" Luna giggles
"Heh. Yeah. And this sap right here would fall asleep right along with him." Riku says looking right at Sora with a smirk
"Oh sure. Rub it in." Sora says
Sora, Riku, Luna, and the others laughed, except for the Inheritor and Master Yen Sid, who simply smiled.
"You see, we all rely on each other to keep us on our toes. Besides, what kind of Keyblade Master sleeps through his test? We're doing it for us, too. Devon saved us both. And... we heard him call our name. He needs us." Riku says
Mickey nods his head with a smile.
"There's something real strong that binds us to each other. Even in the darkness, you can reach him. All you gotta do is follow that connection!" Mickey says
Everyone felt much more happy as they thought of their bonds with Devon.
"Gee, we're all connected to Devon." Goofy says
"You said it!" Donald says thrusting his right-hand up into the air with a small jump
"Right." Spyro and Cynder say in unison nodding their heads
Luna, Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, and the other Viking Teens and the dragons nod their heads in agreement, then the group looks over at Lea as he spoke next.
"And if the darkness gets ya, I promise I'll bail you out. 'Dark Rescue' is my middle name." Lea says
Sora and Riku rose to their feet and gazed around at their friends.
"Guys, thanks. I promise. Me and Riku will be right back..." Sora says
The two boys glanced back at Devon once more.
"...with our friend." Sora says
Sora and Riku turned to the Inheritor and Master Yen Sid and bowed their heads to them, then took a couple steps away from Devon. Sora and Riku summon their Keyblades: Kingdom Key and Way to the Dawn into their hands, holding them straight out at him, while everyone else backed away from Devon. The three boys glowed with light and a spiked purple ball appeared with dark clouds swirling inside, which acted as a portal to Devon's heart. Before going in, Sora and Riku glanced around at their friends one last time.
Donald twiddled his feathered fingers nervously.
"Oh..." Donald says
Goofy pumped his fists with a smile.
"A-hyuck!" Goofy chuckles
Mickey smiles and nodded his head.
"Yup." Mickey says
Spyro and Cynder sat on their haunches with smiles on their faces. Toothless gave off his gummy smile with Hiccup standing next to him on his left with his right-arm wrapped around the back of his head. Astrid stood smiling with her hands on her waist, while Stormfly let out a squawk. Fishlegs held his hands as both he and Meatlug smiled. Snotlout stood confident with his arms crossed next to Hookfang, who smiled with a grunt. Tuffnut and Ruffnut both smiled, resting their arms on Barf and Belch's heads. Lea, The Inheritor, Master Yen Sid, Vervada, and Ignitus simply smiled and nodded. And Luna smiled with a hopeful expression.
Sora and Riku smiled and nodded back, then turned back to face Devon as they prepared themselves for the dive to save their best friend. Soon, the purple spiked ball glowed brightly with a yellow-orange light matching the morning sun, and the light enveloping the two Keyblade Wielders grew brighter and brighter until their bodies disappeared, becoming smaller lights which flew into the portal as they were finally transported into Devon's sleep.
(Dive to the Heart)
Awakening from his horrible nightmare, Devon stirs and sits upright with a sigh before rising all the way up to his feet. He looks around and found himself standing on his Station of Awakening in a dark, otherworldly dimension underneath a black and dark blue sky, surrounded by fragments of rocks and broken statues of Keyblade Wielders, which floated about in the air. However, Devon was not alone as there was another presence behind him. The young teen quickly turned around on his right and came face-to-face with a dark hooded figure, who stood several feet away from him on the other side of the platform. Neither one of them said a word as they stared each other down.
This dark figure wore a skin-tight black bodysuit, a dark gray vest of six-ribbed, flexible armor plates on both sides of his body with a high metal collar protecting the rear and sides of the neck, gray shoulder pieces with black dragon faces built into them, two leather belts around his waist, bracers and knee-length boots with chains on them, and five-digit clawed gauntlets with a glowing red eye in the back of his palms. His face was concealed by the darkness of his long hood, and embedded on his chest was a blood-red diamond crystal gem, which glowed with an evil aura. Inside the gem was a black-red core, swirling with torrents of dark energy, and bolts of red, purple, and dark blue lightning, which crackled and danced around erratically.
A black-red aura of darkness enveloped the mysterious stranger, which immediately caught Devon's attention. A serious expression formed on the Keyblade Wielder's face as he sensed the evil emanating from his adversary. It felt similar to what he sensed within Lord Drazor and Lord Thanatos, but much more darker and stronger. Then, the dark figure stretches his right-hand out to his side and a weapon appears in his hand with black smoke and red electric sparks. It was a Keyblade, one of pure darkness. It's name: Dark Revenant.
This Keyblade had a long, wide, black-red crystalline double-edged blade with traces of black flesh, a sharp tip, and red glowing symbols along the sides that had a black outline. These symbols were Kanji for Chaos (混), Death (死), Corruption (腐), Power (量), Hunger (饿), Vengeance (復), Fear (害), and Darkness (黑). Running up the length of the blade was red fiery evil energy. The teeth of the Keyblade resembled a battle axe split into three claw-like protrusions. Several twisting, red patterns adorned the shaft, head, and teeth of the Keyblade. A skull-like form was situated above the hilt with a large red eye of darkness just above it and two outstretched, upward-pointing, spikey demonic wings make up the rainguard of the blade. The guard was rectangular with eight spikes on both sides. The entire Keyblade was surrounded by a black-red aura of darkness. And the keychain was a black charm with another eye of darkness upon it. This evil weapon appeared to be a combination of The Harbinger of Shadows and The Gazing Eye.
Devon narrows his eyes and stretches his right-hand out to his side, summoning his Keyblade: Soul Calibur in a flash of blue light. Bringing his crystal Keyblade infront of him and gripping the hilt with both hands, Devon gets into his battle stance as he prepared to face off against the mysterious warrior, who just stared at him with his faceless gaze.
After an intense staredown, which lasted fifteen seconds, the hooded figure quickly vanishes into thin air and instantly reappears right infront of Devon with his Dark Keyblade held behind his back, ready to strike. Devon was caught completely by surprise and immediately held Soul Calibur infront of him to defend himself. He blocks against the attack, but the blow was so fast and strong that he was sent sliding all the way back across the platform, skidding to a stop close to the edge. The young teen drops down onto his left-knee, but lifts his head up to see the mysterious warrior jumping towards him with Dark Revenant raises over his right-shoulder with both hands. Reacting quickly, Devon leaps up with a somersault and vaults over his adversary with an inverted flip, just as he swings his Dark Keyblade with a wide-sweeping left slash. Landing behind the hooded figure, he swings Soul Calibur with a right slash, only for his strike to be blocked by his opponent as he spun around to the right.
The two Keyblade Wielders exchanged blows with each other, swinging their Keyblades left and right with Soul Calibur's blue crystal blade clashing against the black-red blade of Dark Revenant, each strike creating loud clanging sounds throughout the mysterious realm. After exchanging blows seven times, Devon and the hooded figure clashed in a three-second blade lock, which soon ended when Devon shoves the Dark Keyblade away to the left. The young teen attacks with three reverse roundhouse kicks using his right-foot, his left-foot, then his right-foot again, but his adversary ducks down, dodging each kick thrown at him, and thrusts his left-hand forward at Devon's face, sending him flying backwards with a telekinetic blast to the center of the glass-stained platform. Devon slides to a stop, using his left-hand to catch himself, then pulls Soul Calibur across his body and hurls it at the dark figure, who diverts it away from him with a simple wave of his left-hand. Guided by its wielder's thoughts, the crystal Keyblade loops back around to strike its target from behind, only to miss as the mysterious warrior dodges it with a backflip without even looking.
Catching Soul Calibur in his right-hand, Devon leaps across the platform toward his adversary, attacking with a right spinning slash, only to miss as the hooded figure slides around to the right. His opponent attempts to strike him behind his back with an overhead strike, but Devon quickly turns his crystal Keyblade under, switching to a reverse grip, and brings it behind his back, blocking against the blow. The Keyblade Wielder spins around to deliver a left-kick using his left-foot, and manages to land the first hit to the mysterious stranger. Catching his opponent off guard, Devon attacks with two right slashes, an left uppercut slash, a small hop backwards with a thrusting strike followed by another uppercut slash, a downward strike, a cartwheel kick, two roundhouse kick using his right and left foot, and a reverse roundhouse slash. He continues his assault with four backflip slashes, four somersault slashes, a wide-sweeping right slash, another thrusting strike, and finishes with a powerful leaping strike, slamming Soul Calibur into the ground and unleashing a rippling shockwave of light that sends the hooded figure flying backwards with a backflip, though he lands crouched down on his feet.
The mysterious Keyblade Wielder teleports to the center of the Station of Awakening and ascends several feet into the air, stopping into a hover, and surrounds himself with dark blue electricity. He crosses his arms, charges up with dark energy for five seconds, then thrusts his body outward, unleashing a chaotic storm of dark blue lightning as it beams up into the endless sky and down onto the ground, creating five large shockwaves of electricity, which spreads throughout the entire platform. Devon jumps high into the air and maintains a good five seconds of air time, dodging the electric shockwaves as they pass underneath him. The hooded stranger thrusts his right-hand forward and casts a dark lightning blast at Devon, hurling bolts of blue electricity from his fingertips. Devon quickly held up Soul Calibur horizontally to the left infront of him, shielding himself from the electric blast as the glowing crystal Keyblade absorbs the lightning bolts into it.
Once the electrical assault had ceased, Devon closes distance with the hooded figure in less than two seconds using Flowmotion, and strikes his adversary with three right spinning slashes. He immediately follows up with a left-diagonal slash, a right slash, two uppercut slashes, a thrusting strike, an overhead slash, and finishes with a wide-sweeping right slash, landing a strong hit to his opponent's chest, knocking him a couple feet away.
After being struck by the Keyblade Wielder, the mysterious figure vanishes, leaving behind an afterimage, and teleports to the other side of the Station of Awakening, causing Devon to turn around to his right. A black-red aura of darkness envelopes Dark Revenant as the hooded warrior tightens his grip on his weapon before he swings his Dark Keyblade across his body and points it straight, shooting a volley of fifty homing dark blasts of the same color at him. Devon stood his ground and deflects the dark projectiles away with Soul Calibur, spinning the crystal Keyblade and holding it from side-to-side. After that, the dark warrior sinks into the ground through a shadowy portal and disappears out of sight, leaving behind a black light glowing on the ground where he vanished. The dark light moves toward Devon while he braced himself. Once it came right under his feet, the hooded figure leaps out of the ground with a spinning right slash, unleashing dozens of black-red fireballs around him. Devon jumps back just as his opponent leaps up from the black-red portal, dodging the attack.
Devon dashes forward at the hooded figure and attacks him with a right slash, a thrusting strike, a left slash, a downward strike, a reverse roundhouse double kick, and a roundhouse kick using his right-foot. The mysterious Keyblade Wielder parries his strikes and leans back, dodging the three kicks, then spins Dark Revenant four times in his right-hand before attacking with a right slash. Devon holds Soul Calibur horizontally to the right and blocks against the strike, putting the two warriors in a blade lock. In their clash, the young teen noticed a pair of glowing red eyes deep inside the hood, which narrowed as his adversary stared at him. Soon, after ten seconds of pushing against each other, Devon and the hooded figure broke away from their clash and leaped away to their respective sides as their fight continued.
Elsewhere, Sora and Riku began their dive into Devon's heart, descending through darkness. The two boys drift past memories of Devon's life from childhood and his adventures, from his life in the Celestial Realm and the Land of Departure to his arrival on Destiny Islands, the start of his adventure, his experiences on Berk, in The Dragon Realms, Prehistoric Lands, The Pokémon World, and Middle-Earth, to their reunions in Radiant Garden and the World That Never Was, and their return to Destiny Islands. Eventually, Sora and Riku reach Devon's Station of Awakening, and they touch down gently onto the glass-stained platform.
"This abyss... Are we inside Devon's dream?" Riku asks
"We must be. Look." Sora says
The two Keyblade Wielders looked down and they saw images of themselves along with Shara, Ducar, Ventus, Terra, Aqua, Kairi, Draxon, Roxas, Lea, Xion, Naminé, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Toothless, Astrid, Snotlout, Fishlegs, and Tuffnut and Ruffnut on the Station of Awakening.
Suddenly, a pool of darkness appears infront of Sora and Riku and a mysterious figure emerges from it, taking on a human form. It was Ventus' Keyblade Armor, only it was completely black in coloration with the Nightmare Dream Eater emblem emblazoned on the visor. The Armored Ventus Nightmare stretches its right-hand out infront of it and summons the Keyblade: Dark Revenant in black smoke and red electric sparks, then turns it under, holding the weapon in a reverse grip. Sora and Riku both stepped back, surprised by the Nightmare's appearance.
"What?" Riku says baffled
The Armored Nightmare attacks first with a wide-sweeping right slash, but the two boys immediately jump back, dodging the Dark Keyblade, and land several feet away from it.
"Riku, what is this thing?" Sora asks
"Judging by the symbol on the helmet, it's obviously a Nightmare. And it looks like the only way to save Devon is to beat this thing." Riku says
"Alright! Then let's do this! For Devon!" Sora says
Riku nods his head in agreement.
"For Devon!" Riku says
Sora and Riku summoned their Keyblades and got into their stances as they faced off against the black, armor-clad figure.
The two boys made the first move, dashing forward across the platform and pulling their Kingdom Key and Way to the Dawn back as they prepared to strike. Within moments, they swing their Keyblades, only to be blocked by the Armored Nightmare, who holds up its Dark Keyblade in defense. Sora and Riku both swing their Keyblades left and right one after the other, but the Armored Nightmare parries each of their blows, holding Dark Revenant from side-to-side. Then, the two heroes deliver a seventh strike, raising Kingdom Key and Way to the Dawn overhead and slamming down on the black-clad figure, who blocks them both. The three Keyblade Wielders clashed in a blade lock for a brief moment until the Armored Nightmare swings his Dark Keyblade and sends Sora and Riku back.
The Armored Nightmare melts into the floor through a shadowy portal and disappears out of sight for three seconds before emerging up behind the heroes, leaping out with its Dark Keyblade wrapped in a black-red aura, and attacking with four right spinning slashes. Sora and Riku jump back and dodge the attack, then aim their Keyblades at the Armored Nightmare, holding their weapons with both hands. They charge up with light and darkness for three seconds before launching twenty white and dark blue projectiles, landing multiple hits to their target. The black-clad figure is knocked back by the salvo of light and dark blasts, but it lands on its right-knee. Rising up, the Armored Nightmare spreads its arms out, summoning four dark blue orbs of darkness at its sides, and sends them at the two heroes by throwing its hands forward. Sora and Riku jump and roll from side-to-side, dodging the dark orbs, then dash toward the armor-clad figure to attack.
Pushing the offensive, Sora strikes the Armored Nightmare with two right spinning slashes, followed by a quick upward slash and downward slash, a thrusting strike, a wide right slash, two left spinning slashes, and an overhead strike, while Riku attacks with a thrusting strike, a right slash, a left-downward slash, a roundhouse slash, four left and right spinning slashes, and an overhead strike that knocks the Armored Nightmare away.
After being sent back by Riku, the Armored Nightmare charges up with dark energy as a black-red aura envelopes its body. Once fully charged after five seconds, the dark-clad Keyblade Wielder flies forward at the two boys with a rushing attack. Sora and Riku both jump away and separate, dodging the Armored Nightmare as it shoots past between them, but it comes back around to charge at the heroes again and again six times, targeting each of them in turn until it heads straight for Sora. The armor-clad warrior attacks with a fast, ferocious string of strikes, swinging Dark Revenant wildly with eight left and right slashes, three reverse roundhouse slashes, three backflip slashes, four somersault slashes, and three spinning downward slashes, while Sora does his best to block and dodge each strike thrown at him. Riku rushes to Sora's aid and moves infront of him, just as the Armored Nightmare brings its Dark Keyblade down. Holding Way to the Dawn to the right in defense, Riku generates a dark spherical barrier around himself, which takes the hit, and he raises his Keyblade skyward, shattering the barrier and blowing the Armored Nightmare away with an indigo aura expelled from his body.
Dashing forward at the black-clad Keyblade Wielder, the silver-haired teen assaults his opponent with a left-diagonal slash, a right and left upward slash, a backflip kick and slash, a left and right spinning slash, a right uppercut slash, and a strong thrusting strike to the chest of the Armored Nightmare. Sora moves in to help Riku and attacks three thrusting strikes, three backflip slashes, a left slash, a right-uppercut slash, an overhead strike, and a reverse roundhouse slash to the stomach, sending the Armored Nightmare flying backwards across the Station of Awakening.
Riku runs up to Sora's right-side as he rises up straight after delivering the strong blow and the two boys both nodded at one another with supportive smiles before turning back to face the Armored Nightmare as it rose up from its crouched position, ready to continue their fight.
Back on Devon's side, his battle against the mysterious figure raged on as both warriors clashed, swinging their Keyblades high and low and trading blows.
After a brief blade lock, the hooded figure shoves Devon back and attacks him with a left-diagonal slash, a right slash, and a downward slash. Devon leans his body from side-to-side, dodging each strike. Then, the mysterious figure attempts a slice at Devon's waist with a right slash, but the young teen jumps back, narrowly dodging the Dark Keyblade as it came dangerously close to slicing his stomach open, and leaps over the dark warrior with a somersault, striking his back in midair with Soul Calibur and causing him to stagger forward in three steps. Turning around to face the Keyblade Wielder, the hooded figure surrounds himself with black-red dark energy for three seconds, then unleashes a large, wide, horizontal wave around himself. Devon leaps up into the air with a backflip, dodging the energy wave as it swept out across the entire Station of Awakening, and lands crouched down on the other side of the glass-stained platform. Next, the dark figure thrusts his left-hand towards Devon, shooting a barrage of dark blue lightning bolts through his clawed fingers. The young teen holds his crystal Keyblade down diagonally to the left and fends off the electric attack for six seconds before swinging the lightning bolts away to the right towards a huge chunk of rock, blasting it into a million pieces, then leaps across the platform towards his opponent with a left spinning slash, spinning four times in the air before striking him directly in the chest.
Seizing his opportunity, Devon strikes the hooded figure with four spinning slashes to the right and left, swinging Soul Calibur in both directions and landing eight hits, then he follows up with four somersault slashes, a backflip kick and slash, a thrusting strike, and finishes with a leaping strike, driving his crystal Keyblade into the ground and creating a blue shockwave of light that blows his adversary a few feet away. The dark warrior rises up to face the Keyblade Wielder again, determined to continue the fight. But before he could do anything, Devon clenches his left-hand into a fist, pulls back and thrusts it forward, sending forth a strong telekinetic blast at his adversary. The hooded figure was blown away by the attack, but he drives his Dark Keyblade into the ground and uses it as an anchor, resisting against the powerful gusts of wind whipping at his face. Dismissing his Keyblade for a second, Devon cups his hands together as he conjures up more telekinetic energy. Then, he pulls his hands back to the right-side of his body and thrusts them forward, releasing a larger, more powerful blast. The hooded stranger is hit by the full force of the blast and was blown back even further, blowing his hood back in the process.
As the mysterious figure rises up from his knees to face him again, Devon got his first good look at who his opponent really was. What he saw shocked him down to the core. It was a dark, evil version of himself. He had deathly pale skin with black-red veins clearly visible running throughout his face and body. His eyes, which were set within deep, eye sockets, had a black sclera with luminous, flaming red pupils around a narrow, black slit iris. His entire face was scarred, likely from a deadly explosion, and a deep, slashed scar went diagonally upwards from right to left across his right-eye.
"You're... me?" Devon says baffled
"Yes... I'm you. But unlike you, I thrive in the dark. My name... is Darkus, and I am the shadow of your heart, born from the deepest depths of the abyss."
"But... how?" Devon asks
"How was I created? Don't you remember?" Darkus says
(Flashback)
Visions of Devon's sacrifice in the Pokémon World played out in his mind as Darkus reminds him the events of that day.
"Back in the Pokémon World, after your battle with Lord Thanatos, you learned that Kairi's heart resided inside both you and Sora. You knew that they needed your help. And what did you do?" Darkus says
A second vision flashes in Devon's mind, which shows him glancing back over his right-shoulder at his friends with a warm smile before he stabs himself with Soul Calibur, freeing his half of Kairi's heart from his body as it flew up into the blue sky.
"I turned the Keyblade on me and stabbed myself in order to free her..." Devon says
"Yep. And right infront of all your new friends too! Way to break their sad, pathetic little hearts like that! Heh! Priceless! You released Kairi's heart from your body, but you also released your own heart in the process, and that brought about the creation of Draxon, your Nobody. But he wasn't the only thing born that day." Darkus says
In the blackness of his mind, Draxon appears to the left of Devon's view, standing with a calm exterior, while Devon's heart descends and transforms into Darkus as he appeared on his right, standing straight with his glowing red eyes and a wide, villainous smile from cheek to cheek that showed his needle-like teeth.
"Just as Draxon was made from your body and soul as your Nobody, I was born from the darkness inside your heart as your Heartless." Darkus says
A third vision showed Sora's side of the similar event in the castle of Hollow Bastion when he released his and Kairi's heart and his body fell backwards, even as she tried to catch him, only for Sora to disappear before her eyes. A white flash shows the vision a short while later with Sora as a Shadow Heartless looking up at Kairi, who seemed to recognize him.
"In Radiant Garden, or Hollow Bastion as it was known at the time, Sora freed his heart same as you, and he became a Heartless shortly afterwards..." Darkus says
Returning to the Pokémon World, a fourth vision showed The Inheritor standing before Devon's friends, holding the Keyblade Wielder's heart in his right-hand.
"But you cheated that fate, thanks to The Inheritor. He restored your body, while I was cast into the deepest, darkest pit of your soul before I could even assume my form." Darkus says
Devon's heart floated down from the godly being's hand and the orb of light shines brightly for six seconds before the light diminishes and the young teen regains his form, rising up from his right-knee and standing straight with a smile on his face. The flashback ends with Devon's mind whitening out.
(Present time)
Darkus narrowed his eyes, tightened his grip on Dark Revenant, and clenched his free hand into a fist as he became filled with anger.
"You've held me back since the very beginning, and I've had enough! I am sick and tired of being caged up in here, confined like a wild, forsaken animal!" Darkus says
The evil human Heartless lifts up Dark Revenant and points it at his good counterpart.
"But once I destroy you, then I will be the one in control, and we'll see how you like spending an eternity trapped in darkness!" Darkus says
Devon stares at Darkus for a moment with a serious expression, then glances down at his chest.
"I had good reasons for keeping my darkness buried." Devon says
The young hero places his left-hand over his chest where his heart was as he continued.
"I was afraid... Afraid of what might happen if I ever lost control of my power. Afraid I might turn on my friends and attack them. Afraid that I would turn into someone like Lord Drazor or Darth Vader." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder clenches his left-hand into a fist and his eyes snapped open as he looks up at his evil twin.
"But I know now how to bring my heart into balance." Devon says
Devon spins Soul Calibur three times in his right-hand, then brings it up to the right-side of his face with both hands, spreading his legs apart in his stance.
"In order to become a complete person, I must be willing to wield both Light and Darkness. And for me to do that, I have to defeat my own darkness... You." Devon says
A sinister grin forms on Darkus' face and he raises his right-eyebrow. Then, he starts to chuckle, closing his red eyes and lowering his head before throwing his head back in wicked laughter.
"He he he... Ah ha ha ha ha ha! You honestly think you can beat me? Heh. That really is a laugh." Darkus laughs shaking his head
Darkus lowers Dark Revenant and points his left-index finger straight at Devon.
"Let's get one thing straight, genius. In terms of strength and power, I am your exact equal. Besides, you couldn't even defeat your own father, and he kicked your butt. What chance do you think you have against me?" Darkus says
An aura of darkness envelopes Darkus' body as he lowers his hand, and dark blue electricity sparks appear around his left-hand, crackling along his fingers.
"But enough talk. It's time to play." Darkus says narrowing his eyes with a big evil smile
Darkus turned his body to his dominant right-side and spread his feet out, holding Dark Revenant at his side, while Devon stood his ground as the two warriors of Light and Darkness prepared themselves for the second stage of their epic battle. The Keyblade Wielder and his Heartless stood equidistant from each other, engaging in another intense stare down. This one was even longer, lasting for more than a minute. Darkus raised his right-eyebrow with a sinister grin, while Devon maintained his serious, determined expression, narrowing his eyes at his evil twin.
Eventually, Devon and Darkus dashed toward each other with fast speed and they met in the center of the Station of Awakening with everything moving in slow motion as they swing their Keyblades. Soon, the blue crystal blade of Soul Calibur and the black-red crystal blade of Dark Revenant clashed with a loud, deafening clang, creating a gigantic shockwave of pearlescent white and indigo black that spread out far and wide into the endless soul world.
Making the first move, Darkus dashes forward at Devon and swings Dark Revenant wildly from side-to-side, attacking his good twin with nine unrelenting strikes per second. Devon holds Soul Calibur vertically with both hands, parrying each sword strike thrown at him, then leaps away to the right, dodging Darkus as he cloaks himself in darkness and charges at him with a drilling strike. Devon turns around to his left and tries to hit Darkus from behind with a leaping strike, but the Heartless darts away as he swings his crystal Keyblade. Curving around to the right, Darkus quickly rushes at the Keyblade Wielder and attacks with a left and right slash, followed by an overhead slash. Devon parries the first two strikes, then blocks the third with Soul Calibur raised above his head, putting them in a blade lock, but it was brief as the young teen shoves the Dark Keyblade away to the left and knocks Darkus into the air with a quick uppercut strike. Devon leaps up in pursuit of the Heartless and delivers four roundhouse kicks to his body before slamming Darkus to the ground with a strong right slash.
Catching Darkus off guard, Devon strikes his evil self with three right spinning slashes, a downward slash, a left slash, two crescent kicks using his right and left-foot, a right spinning kick with both legs spread out, and a spinning right uppercut slash. The human Heartless staggers backwards in five steps and glares at his original persona for a moment before attacking again. Darkus swings at Devon with a left and right slash, but the young hero parries his blows and counters with a right slash to Darkus' gut, causing him to lurch forward. He then knees the humanoid Heartless in the face with his right-knee, and delivers leaping reverse roundhouse kick to Darkus' chest with his right-foot, knocking him away.
Darkus lands on his feet and skids to a stop, using his left-hand to catch himself, then rises up straight to face the Keyblade Wielder with an amused grin on his scarred face.
"Hmph." Darkus scoffs
Setting his sights on the young hero, Darkus crosses his arms and thrusts them outward, summoning seven blood red ethereal blades that orbit around his body, then charges straight at him with blindingly fast speed. Devon jumps away to the left with a sideways twirl and flip, dodging the attack. Darkus flies past him, but he stops and rushes at the Keyblade Wielder again, while Devon continued to evade him. The evil Heartless charges at the young teen six times, then teleports above him with Dark Revenant held over his head to strike. Devon looks up, noticing Darkus hovering over him, and immediately leaps backwards, dodging the Heartless as he slams down onto the ground, generating dozens of black and red spikes around him. Darkus rises up straight and looks over at Devon as he stood several feet away on the other side of the glass-stained platform. Raising his left-hand up, he summons his seven ethereal blades above him and sends them at the Keyblade Wielder with a thrust of his hand. Devon holds Soul Calibur horizontally infront of him and encases himself in a blue spherical barrier, which shields him from the ethereal blades as they disintegrate on impact. As soon as his barrier disperses, the young teen quickly closes distance with his Heartless using Flowmotion and goes on the offensive.
Raising Soul Calibur over his right-shoulder, Devon attacks with a left-downward slash that Darkus blocks with Dark Revenant held opposite in defense, but he quickly follows up with a left-side kick to the ribs, then strikes the Heartless with an uppercut slash and a right slash. Continuing his assault, Devon hits his evil twin with two quick left slashes, a right slash, another left slash, and a roundhouse slash, all to the chest, a high left-kick across the face with the left-foot, two left and right spinning slashes, and finishes with two spinning uppercut slashes and a strong overhead strike, slamming his crystal Keyblade onto the ground and creating a large, blue shockwave. Darkus was sent flying backwards a few meters, but he lands crouched on his feet and rises up.
The evil Heartless raises Dark Revenant up to the sky with his right-hand and summons black-red arrows of dark energy, which float about in the air around him. Swinging his Dark Keyblade downward, he sends the arrows at the Keyblade Wielder, who stretches out his left-hand and diverts them away with his telekinesis. Next, Darkus de-summons his weapon for a moment and brings his hands together infront of his chest, creating a black orb of darkness between them. He charges it up for five seconds until it grew to the size of a basketball while keeping his gaze on Devon, and thrusts his hands forward, firing a large salvo of thirty purple dark blasts at his heroic counterpart. Devon counters the attack by aiming Soul Calibur with his right-hand and shooting thirty blue blasts of light. Both energy salvos intercept and cancel each other out. Summoning Dark Revenant back into his right-hand, Darkus swings his weapon with a right slash and launches a homing fireball towards the young teen at high speed, which then splits into five in mid-flight, but Devon shields himself from the attack with his light barrier again as the fiery projectiles each strike the magical barrier with huge explosive impact. Soon after his barrier shatters, the Keyblade Wielder makes his move.
Holding his Soul Calibur with both hands, Devon swings his Keyblade left and right, launching seven blue crescent blades of light at the Heartless. Darkus cuts through three blades with his weapon, but grunts as the other four blade manage to strike his body. De-summoning his crystal Keyblade for a moment, Devon pulls his hands back, summoning two large blue fireballs at his sides, then thrusts them forward, launching a powerful, two-streamed blast at his evil twin. Darkus copied his attack, summoning two red fireballs in his hands, and shoots a similar blast. Both attacks clashed and cancelled each other out in a massive, fiery blue and red explosion, creating a huge cloud of smoke. Suddenly, Darkus flies through the smoke with incredible speed and heads straight for Devon with his Dark Keyblade pulled across the left-side of his body poised to strike, catching him completely by surprise. Devon was struck hard in the gut as he lurched forward, and was sent flying across the glass-stained platform, rolling backwards four times until he lands flat on his stomach. He pushes himself up onto all fours and looks up at Darkus as he walks toward him.
"I hope that hurts, Chosen One. That's just the beginning, and there's still plenty of pain coming your way." Darkus says
Devon narrows his eyes and he pushes himself up onto his feet as he faced his evil Heartless again, determined to win back control of his heart.
On Sora and Riku's side, the two heroes blocked an advancing spin attack from the Armored Nightmare, then leaped away as it dashes toward them again with an uppercut slash, creating five black and blue slash marks of darkness on the ground. The Armored Nightmare attacks Sora and Riku again with a leaping strike, spinning across the Station of Awakening two times in the air, but the two islanders jump away just as the black-clad figure slams its Dark Keyblade down on their position.
Making their move, Sora holds his Kingdom Key straight in his right-hand, aiming it at the Armored Nightmare, and shoots a cluster of sixteen light projectiles, while Riku holds his Way to the Dawn straight with both hands, shooting a series of sixteen dark fireballs in one burst. The light projectiles spiral through the air and strike their target, followed by the dark fireballs that created small indigo explosions on impact. Afterwards, the two boys dash toward the Armored Nightmare and attack, one after the other. Sora strikes the black-clad figure with two left slashes, an uppercut slash, three thrusting strikes, a downward slash, and a reverse roundhouse slash, while Riku delivers an overhead strike, two wide-sweeping slashes, a thrusting strike, a left uppercut slash, and three right spinning slashes. Then, the two Keyblade Wielders rushed at the Armored Nightmare, hitting it from all directions with eight charging strikes, then they appear infront of the black-clad figure and deliver one final strike that knocks the Armored Nightmare several feet away.
The strong impact of their attack created a pale blue glowing crack in the Armored Nightmare's chest, which then began to spread across the whole body. Soon, the helmet breaks apart and the dark figure lifts his head up, revealing his identity to Sora and Riku. The two islanders were utterly shocked by who they saw. It was Darkus, but to them, he looked exactly like their best friend.
"Devon?!" Sora and Riku exclaim shocked
"Heh. Not quite." Darkus says
The evil entity rises to his feet and stands up straight as his Keyblade Armor breaks apart, being replaced by Darkus' armor.
"Who are you?!" Sora asks in a demanding voice
"I am Darkus. I am the darkness of Devon's heart given form. Something that you probably know all too well. Isn't that right, Riku?"
"What have you done with our friend?!" Riku asks in a demanding voice
Darkus smiles and places his left-hand over his chest.
"Right here. And don't even bother trying to call out to him. Your voice won't reach him where he is." Darkus says
The evil entity points Dark Revenant at the two heroes.
"But don't worry. You'll be joining your dear friend soon enough... once I join your hearts with mine!" Darkus says
Sora and Riku growled and gripped their Keyblades tightly, getting back into their stances as they both now prepared to fight Darkus in the second phase of their battle.
The humanoid Heartless made the first move, advancing toward the two heroes with four right spinning slashes, his Dark Keyblade coated in darkness of a blood red color. Sora and Riku block against the spin attack and attempt to strike back, swinging their Keyblades at Darkus, only to miss as he warps away in the blink of an eye. Darkus reappears behind the islanders and sends them flying forward with a telekinetic blast through his extended left-hand. Sora and Riku staggered as they landed on their feet and turned to face Darkus as he shoots a black-red flaming skull of darkness through his left-hand, dodge rolling away from the attack. Next, the humanoid Heartless stretches his left-hand out and raises it skyward, creating multiple indigo pillars of darkness, which appears all around the Station of Awakening, even close to Sora and Riku, who dash and roll away from the dark pillars, evading them as they emerge through shadowy portals. Then, Darkus warps up to the heroes and attacks them one at a time. He knocks Sora back with a left uppercut slash, then Riku with a right kick. Finally, Darkus warps up to the islanders and hits them both with an X-shaped slash, swinging his hands with an upward and outward motion. The Keyblade Wielders quickly recovered from the attack and faced the humanoid Heartless as he stood patiently on his side of the platform.
"Now really. I thought you two were stronger than this. Come on. Give me your best shot." Darkus taunts spreading his hands out
Sora and Riku narrowed their eyes, growling under their breath, then dashed forward to attack again.
"Haaaah!" Sora yells
"Raaaagh!" Riku yells
The two heroes advanced on Darkus, swinging their Keyblades with lightning-fast speed, but he dodges and blocks their blows. This went on for fifteen seconds before the humanoid Heartless warps away and reappears behind Sora and Riku with his hands stretched out, blasting them away with purple dark energy blasts fired from his open palms.
In Devon's soul world, his battle against his darkness continued as he and Darkus both clashed with incredibly strong blows, darting back and forth around the Station of Awakening. The humanoid Heartless attacks his good twin with an upward and downward slash, followed by four side swipes, two spinning slashes, and an overhead strike. Devon leans his body away, dodging the strikes, then holds Soul Calibur to the right, blocking the final strike and putting the two Keyblade Wielders in a blade lock. After a four second clash, Darkus shoves Devon back and knocks him a couple feet into the air with a quick uppercut strike. Leaping up in pursuit, he hits the young hero with two more upward slashes, then sends him back down to the glass-stained platform with a left downward strike. Devon crashes on his back, but he bounces back onto his feet.
Pushing for the offensive, Devon dashes forward at Darkus and lunges at him with Soul Calibur, but the evil Heartless leaps away to the left, evading his attack.
"Nope." Darkus taunts
Devon attacks his adversary again with an uppercut slash, two left slashes, a downward strike, and three right spinning slashes, but misses as Darkus dodges his blows, leaning his body away.
"Too slow." Darkus taunts
Darkus swings Dark Revenant at Devon as a counterattack, but the young hero quickly brought up his crystal Keyblade to catch the blow. The young hero shoves the black-red blade away and tries to hit his evil counterpart with a wide right slash, but the humanoid Heartless warps away, dodging his blade, and teleports behind the Keyblade Wielder, countering with a right-elbow strike to the back. He then teleports infront of Devon and delivers a brutal overhead strike to his left-shoulder and chest, knocking him down to the ground. The Keyblade Wielder sits upright and saw his evil counterpart leaping towards him with Dark Keyblade pulled back to stab him, but he rolls backwards and jumps onto his feet with a hand flip just as Darkus thrusts his blade forward on his position.
Devon leaps up onto a small floating islet and aims Soul Calibur at Darkus, shooting twenty blue magical bullets at him. The humanoid Heartless stood where he was and spins his Dark Keyblade in his right-hand like a pinwheel, deflecting the shots with ease.
"What's wrong, Chosen One? Too scared to face your own darkness head on? Don't got the balls to stand and face me? Look like you're running out of tricks!" Darkus taunts
In response, Devon stretches his left-hand toward another large floating rock on his left the size of a gigantic boulder, grabbing it with his telekinesis, and hurls it down at his evil counterpart. Darkus stretches out his left-hand and catches the rock with his telekinesis and sends it back at the young hero. Devon gasps and jumps off to another vantage point on his left as the rock crashes into his previous position, breaking it to pieces. He lands crouched on his left-knee and looks over at his right to see Darkus flying up towards him with high speed and his Dark Keyblade raised over his left-shoulder.
"Fine! If that's the way it's going to be, then I'll just come to you!" Darkus says
Moving quickly, the young teen jumps to another rock just as the humanoid Heartless swings his weapon, smashing the other one to piece with his incredible strength. Darkus looks off to his right and chases after Devon.
"Go ahead! Keep running from me! It matters little to me! I love a good chase! It just makes me want to kill you even more!" Darkus says
Darkus flies in pursuit of his good twin while he leaps from rock to rock, relentlessly attacking him and destroying the rocks he steps on. He shoots a Dark Firaga through the open palm of his left-hand at the third spot, destroys the fourth with a black and red spiral beam fired through the tips of his index and middle fingers, and crushes the fifth one to dust by clenching his free hand into a fist. On his sixth leap, Devon turns to face Darkus as he flies towards him and leaps upwards with a backflip, dodging him as he slams down with Dark Keyblade. He jumps off another floating rock, dives down at his opponent, raises Soul Calibur over his right-shoulder, and smashes into his evil counterpart, striking back with a strong swipe, though Darkus blocks it with his black crystal blade. The two Keyblade Wielders freefall toward the Station of Awakening at incredible speed, exchanging blows at one another. Eventually, Devon and Darkus land back on the glass-stained platform and the chosen hero dashes forward at his adversary.
Devon comes at Darkus while he leaps away, attacking him with a left downward slash, a high, spinning left-kick through his left-foot and a reverse roundhouse slash, a thrusting strike, an uppercut slash, a right-kick, and an overhead strike. Darkus dodges every blow thrown at him and slides around to the left, dodging the final strike, and counters with a quick strike to Devon's back, causing him to stumble forwards. He teleports infront of Devon, striking him with an uppercut slash with Dark Revenant turned over, and kicks him back with a reverse roundhouse kick to his chest. Then, he warps up to the young teen with his left-hand stretched out towards him.
"Try and dodge this!" Darkus says
The humanoid Heartless shoots a powerful black and red blast of dark energy through his open palm, hitting the young hero directly in the chest and sending him flying backwards. Devon lands on his feet and slides to a stop, using his right-hand with Soul Calibur to catch himself. But before he could recover, Darkus instantly appears infront of him, and elbows Devon in his stomach using his left-elbow, strikes underneath his chin with his right-knee, then grabs Devon by his shirt and headbutts him straight on in the face.
"Aaaah!" Devon cries out in pain
Devon staggers backwards, holding his face with his hands, and was struck multiple times in the chest by a barrage of kicks from Darkus, using his right-foot to attack, then finishes with two brutal right spinning slashes, knocking the chosen hero away. Devon falls down onto his back and rolls over onto his stomach, grunting in agonizing pain.
"Gnh... Ngh... Uhh..." Devon grunts
Darkus walks over to his original persona and stares down at him with his red eyes.
"Oh... Don't tell me you're finished already. I was hoping for a more interesting fight." Darkus taunts
The evil Heartless grabs the young teen's left-leg with his left-hand and slams him violently overhead onto the ground on his back.
"Gaaah!" Devon screams in agony
Dragging him back, Darkus slams Devon against the ground again and again two more times before tossing him away. The Keyblade Wielder pushes himself up and slowly crawls away from Darkus as he taunts him.
"Look at everyone's favorite hero now. You know, you believe your friends are what makes you stronger, but it is also your fatal weakness. Your compassion for them will ultimately be your downfall. The Dark Lord knows this. He'll use your friends to get to you, making them suffer, one by one." Darkus says
Devon froze, his eyes widened, and he gasped as the vision from his nightmare back in his third visit to Distant Galaxy appeared in his mind, seeing all his friends gravely wounded.
"Don't you see? The more friends you carry in your heart, the more that weight will drag you down." Darkus says
Narrowing his eyes, Devon grunts as he fights the sharp pain and rises up onto his right-knee. The young hero glances back at his Heartless counterpart over his right-shoulder, rises up slightly, and slowly turns around to face him with his left-arm hanging infront of him and his right-hand pulled back, panting for breath. Darkus points Dark Revenant at the Keyblade Wielder, the tip only inches away from his face.
"You've had a good run, but like all things it must come to an end. It's now high time I start running the show! Brace yourself for oblivion!" Darkus says smiling
Slowly, the humanoid Heartless began to raise his crystal blade above his head with just his right-hand, keeping his gaze down on the young hero.
"Oh, and don't worry. I'll take great care of your body. And I'll be sure to take good care of your friends... including that precious Night Fury you love so much." Darkus says
Devon's eyes widened even more when he heard this. A vision of Luna looking at him with a happy, loving smile appeared in his mind, followed by another vision of him holding the sides of her head with his hands and resting the temple of his head on hers, while both of them shared peaceful expressions with their eyes closed, an example of their incredible bond. Seeing that filled the Keyblade Wielder with burning determination and he narrowed his eyes with a serious look on his face.
"Now, accept your fate, and fall into darkness!" Darkus says
Everything moves in slow motion as Darkus proceeds to swing Dark Revenant down towards Devon, who glances up at the evil Heartless. Summoning Soul Calibur back into his right-hand, the chosen hero raises his crystal Keyblade above his head, holding it horizontally to the left, and blocks the black and red blade.
"I won't... let you hurt... my friends... And I... won't ever, ever... let you touch her!" Devon growls raising his voice loudly
Suddenly, a bright light envelopes Devon's body, which blasts Darkus back several feet away to the other side of the Station of Awakening. The humanoid Heartless covers his face with his right-arm, shielding himself from the intense light.
"What?!" Darkus exclaims
Devon slowly starts to rise up off the ground, ascending into the air until he was high up several feet above the Station of Awakening. Then, a gigantic pillar of heavenly light shoots up from the center of the glass-stained platform, along with several smaller columns of light within its radius. Inside, Devon crosses his arms and thrusts his body outward, letting out a loud yell at the top of his lungs as he unleashes his inner power.
"Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!" Devon roars
Eventually, after nearly a minute, the light diminishes and the Keyblade Wielder descends down onto his Station of Awakening in a new form, an incredibly powerful form at that. It was another Formchange: Double Form.
In this form, Devon's clothes were split between a fusion of Light on his right, and Darkness on his left. In his hands was Draxon's Keyblades: Virtuous Soul in his right-hand, and Darkest Pain in his left. The sleeves of Devon's jacket had three heart symbols in a vertical row, being black on the left sleeve and silver on the right sleeve. The hood also had a heart symbol; the left half in black, while the right half in silver. The pants had grey back pockets; the left side was black with the kanji for "darkness" (闇) on the front in white, while the right side was grey and had the kanji for "light" (光) on the front also in white. Devon's shoes were a fusion of Light and Dark with white collars, black toe boxes, heels outlined in white, and grey vamps and quarters.
The Keyblade Wielder's body was now muscular with sporadic blue bolts of electricity surrounding him, and small, glowing particles of light and darkness floated around him. Devon's gaze was intense as he stared at a completely shocked Darkus.
"This can't be! This... This is impossible!" Darkus exclaims
Devon takes three steps forward, while Darkus retreated in the same amount of steps.
"Stay back!" Darkus says
"Why so scared, Darkus?" Devon asks in a calm, yet serious manner
"Huh?!" Darkus says
Realizing the sudden foolishness in his reaction, the humanoid Heartless regains his composure and returns the glare with one of his own.
"Oh... I see now. You've finally learned to embrace both Light and Darkness into your heart. Yet this makes no difference. I will still destroy you, and claim your body as my own! Let's settle this, once and for all!" Darkus says
Devon maintained his serious expression and spreads his legs apart, tightening the grip on his two Keyblades as he stood ready for Round 3 against his Heartless counterpart. Darkus makes the first move, gripping Dark Revenant with both hands and raising it over his right-shoulder as he charges aggressively at the young hero.
"Haaaaaaagh!" Darkus yells
Devon blocks the attack with Darkest Pain, holding the black Keyblade horizontally to the right infront of him, then counters with a quick swipe to Darkus' chest using Virtuous Soul. Seizing his chance, Devon goes on the offensive and hits Darkus with a backflip kick to the chin using his right-foot, a somersault slash cleaving both Keyblades downward, seven side swipes swinging Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain left and right, a sweeping strike followed by a devastating thrust, and finishes with a cross slash, unleashing a silver whirlwind around him and knocking the humanoid Heartless far back across the Station of Awakening.
Darkus lands on his feet and staggers a bit in four steps. He places his left-hand over his chest and glances down at it for a moment, then looks up at Devon with a murderous glare, growling in anger.
"Why you...!" Darkus growls
The evil entity rushes at the chosen hero with another aggressive charges, flying towards him with his entire body cloaked in darkness.
"Aaaaaaaaaaggghhh!" Darkus yells
Just as he was about to smash into him, Devon warps away faster than lightning, surprising Darkus as he reaches his position. The humanoid Heartless stops and looks around for the Keyblade Wielder, hoping for a glimpse of where he might appear. Suddenly, Virtuous Soul comes flying in out of nowhere and strikes Darkus in the back. The evil entity immediately turns around after being struck, but saw nothing. Shortly afterwards, Darkest Pain flies in, striking the human Heartless in the back again. Then, pearlescent shards of light and spinning indigo blades of darkness bombarded Darkus from multiple directions. Now, Darkus was getting furious and his anger increased by the minute.
"Enough!" Darkus roars
Darkus crosses his arms and thrusts his body outward, unleashing a gigantic, colossal storm of dark blue lightning bolts for fifteen seconds in every direction throughout the soul world, destroying everything in the entire area, leaving only the Station of Awakening. The humanoid Heartless descends down to the center of the glass-stained platform and pants heavily for breath, searching left and right for the Keyblade Wielder.
"Where are you?!" Darkus yells
"Right here." A familiar voice says
Darkus quickly turns around to his right and saw Devon as he instantly appeared infront of him. He gasped and his red eyes widened in shock and surprise. Before Darkus could react, Devon strikes the evil Heartless with a cross slash, swinging both Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain outward, and follows up with two quick left and right slashes and a backflip slash, then spins Virtuous Soul around in his right-hand and delivers a right upwards slash. Afterwards, Devon throws Virtuous Soul around himself and dashes forward into Darkus with a spiral charge, spinning his Keyblade infront of his outstretched hand while light flies backwards and sparkles appeared around him. Finally, Devon delivers an overhead strike and spins around with two right slashes, generating five pillars of light around him that shoots outwards in different directions, knocking the humanoid Heartless away across the Station of Awakening.
Darkus lands on his feet, slides to a stop, and falls down onto his left-knee, then looks up at Devon with an even angrier expression. He teleports to the center of the Station of Awakening, levitates several feet into the air before stopping into a hover high above the glass-stained platform, and crosses his arms, charging up with dark energy with his body glowing with a black and red aura. Darkness began swirling around the whole platform and dark blue lightning strikes around the area. Once charged after six seconds, Darkus spreads his arms out and unleashes dozens of black tendrils from his body in all directions. Devon warps from one spot to another, dodging the dark tendrils that struck at or close to his position. Descending down to the Station of Awakening, Darkus thrusts his hands forward and hurls an extremely powerful dark lightning blast at the chosen hero. Devon stood his ground and stretches out his hands, absorbing the electric bolts into his open palms. He felt the vast increase in power as it pushed heavily against him, but he stood firm as he engaged his evil counterpart in an epic power struggle. Slowly, Devon began to push back against the electric blast, moving forward one step after the other, while Darkus looks on absolutely dumbfounded. Eventually, the Keyblade Wielder redirects the lightning bolts back at his Heartless, striking him in the chest and knocking him down onto his knees. Then, he glides across the Station of Awakening in a trail of light towards Darkus and attacks.
Devon hits the human Heartless with a downward slash from Darkest Pain, a left slash with Virtuous Soul, an uppercut strike and four right spinning slashes swinging both Keyblades, and a strong thrusting strike, spinning Darkest Pain in his left-hand behind him and lunging forward with a dark blue ray of darkness. Next, Devon teleports into the air above his evil counterpart and dives downwards, plunging Darkest Pain into the ground and generating a large, dark blue shockwave of darkness with eight diamond shards appearing around him, four smaller white shards glowing in the center, and dark blue flames and electricity bursting upwards. Then, he crosses his Keyblades and thrusts his chest upwards, surrounding himself inside an orb of light while rays of light and darkness swirl around him. Darkus was knocked back by the final attack and he falls down on all fours before giving Devon yet another angry glare, growling deeply in hatred, his veins bulging in his head.
"That's it! I've had enough! This ends now!" Darkus yells
The humanoid Heartless teleports away and reappears high above the Station of Awakening, glaring down at the Keyblade Wielder, while he returned the gaze with one of his own. A sinister smile forms on Darkus' face for a moment as he had a dastardly trick up his sleeve, then puts on a serious expression. He throws his arms open with a grunt, his clawed hands vertically and fingers wide and lets out a loud, bellowing yell at the top of his lungs as he powers himself up with dark energy.
"Hrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaggghhh!" Darkus yells
A black and red aura of darkness explodes from Darkus' body as he continues to scream loudly. Then, bringing his arms to his chest, he forms a black, sun-like sphere of dark energy in the space between the palms of his hands that glowed with a blood red outline and emitted sporadic bolts of black-red electricity in all directions. Raising it above his head, the dark sphere quickly grew larger in seconds, becoming a giant, enormous ball of darkness. Devon gazed up at the black sun as the electricity grew more and more intense. Six bolts strike down close to the Keyblade Wielder and streak past him.
"Here! If you think your power is far superior to mine, then try and stop this!" Darkus yells
With a fearless expression on his face, Devon clenches his hands into fists and summons Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain back into his hands, ready to take on his evil counterpart. Darkus chuckles with a malicious smile as he gazed down at his foolish twin.
"He he he... Ah ha ha ha ha ha! You have no chance! No chance! You're as good as dust!" Darkus laughs
Soon, the black energy sphere was fully charged and the humanoid Heartless narrows his eyes as he commenced his attack.
"Now... die!" Darkus yells
Swinging his hands downwards, Darkus sends the gigantic black orb towards his good twin. Devon flies up to the dark sun as it slowly descends and spins Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain together like the rotor blades of a helicopter above his head, stopping and holding it in place, much to the utter shock of the evil entity.
"What?!" Darkus exclaims
Channeling the strong powers of both Light and Darkness within him, Devon destroys the black sun using his incredible energy. Gold and dark blue cracks appeared on the bottom of the black sphere, then spread along the surface until it explodes ten seconds later in a brilliant, blinding flash of light. Darkus crosses his arms infront of his face and shields his eyes as the light blinds his vision. Five seconds later, the explosion diminishes and the light dims down. Darkus lowers his arms and a look of shock came upon his face when Devon instantly appears infront of him. He summons Dark Revenant into his right-hand and tries to strike him with a left slash, but the chosen hero warps away and reappears behind him with Virtuous Soul pulled across his body, countering the attack with a strong right slash and sending the humanoid Heartless down onto the glass-stained platform. Darkus lands flat on his stomach and he slowly pushes himself up as Devon teleports down on the opposite side of the Station of Awakening.
"Gnh!" Darkus grunts narrowing his eyes
Making his move, Devon rises upwards into the air, spinning clockwise with his Keyblades revolving around him as a glowing colored light appeared on the tips of the weapons. Virtuous Soul had a golden light at its tip, while Darkest Pain had a purple light. The chosen hero raises his hands upwards with the same gold and purple light glowing on them and wraps his arms around himself, while smaller, alternating lights of similar colors appeared above him. These lights converged around Devon's hands into a single sparkling light as he finally faces Darkus with Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain locked beside him, facing downwards. Then, Devon spreads his hands and the two Keyblades plunge downwards, creating a bright, dazzling galaxy underneath him and summoning multitudes of stars that fly toward Darkus and strike him repeatedly. The human Heartless grunts as he's struck numerous times by a hundred stars.
Grabbing his two Keyblades, the young teen dashes forward across the glass-stained platform towards his adversary and goes on the offensive. Devon assaults his evil counterpart with a downward slash from Virtuous Soul before following up with a wide-sweeping right slash using his two Keyblades, a left slash from Darkest Pain, and another right slash, again using both his Keyblades, slashing outwards and striking Darkus five times. Next, Devon flips upside-down and spinning around with four spinning slashes, attacking with a flurry of light and darkness. Then, the Keyblade Wielder leaps forward into the air and slams both Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain into the ground, generating eight pillars of light and darkness, four of each, and blasting Darkus away. Twisting around to the left in the air, Devon spins his Keyblades in his hands, catches them, and thrusts the two blades down infront of himself with orbs appearing around the tips of Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain. Twenty rays of light and darkness appeared around Darkus and pierced his body multiple times. Afterwards, Devon flips backwards into the air, twists around and holds his two Keyblades together towards the sky, summoning a gigantic magic circle of light and darkness, which floods the Station of Awakening with light. When the light diminishes, Devon was seen hovering in the air with a giant, purple, circular magic sigil above him, and a similar, golden magic sigil below him, the area around him resembling the sky at dawn. Gazing down at his evil counterpart, Devon spins his Keyblades in his hands infront of him, catches them, crosses his arms, then thrusts his chest outwards, summoning pillars of light and darkness all around the glass-stained platform. Unfortunately for Darkus, he was ravaged in the attack, being struck many times by the magical pillars. Finally, Devon crosses his arms and dashes forward with unbelievable speed as a blur, then reappears infront of Darkus, slashing outwards through his body with Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain cutting through the air with trails of pearlescent light and indigo darkness, delivering the final blow that ultimately finishes the fight.
Devon and Darkus both stood silently with their backs facing toward each other. The young hero was crouched down on his right-knee with his left-leg extended and his Keyblades held out behind his back, while the humanoid Heartless was frozen after receiving the death blow with his eyes widened and his mouth hanging open. Darkus starts to choke and groan and he falls onto his knees before collapsing onto his stomach. Devon stands up straight and turns around to the right, facing his evil twin as he pushes himself up, only to fall back down. He then starts walking towards him and Darkus rolls over on his right to face him.
"Gnh! No! It wasn't supposed to end this way! Not like this!" Darkus says
Devon points Virtuous Soul down at his Heartless counterpart.
"It's over, Darkus. You've lost. You may be the darkness of my heart, but I'm the one who's in control." Devon says
The Keyblade Wielder de-summons Virtuous Soul and Darkest Pain and holds up his hands as they glowed with a blue light.
"Now, it's time Light and Darkness became one." Devon says
Keeping his gaze down on his evil twin, Devon slowly advances towards Darkus while he backs away in fear.
"No! Nooo!" Darkus exclaims
After taking five steps forward, Devon lowers down and grabs hold of Darkus' chest with his hands, staring him right straight in the eyes.
"So why don't you stay where you belong: In my heart!" Devon says
A blue aura envelopes Devon first, then the same aura appears on Darkus. Soon, the human Heartless screams in fear and in agony as he is absorbed into Devon's body.
"Aaaaaaaaaaaaggghhh!" Darkus screams
After absorbing the embodiment of his darkness, Devon fell down on all fours, but he slowly levitates off the ground, rising up a few feet into the air. He opens his eyes, which were now glowing with blue light, crosses his arms and thrusts his chest outwards as a brilliant light engulfs his entire body and the Station of Awakening, shining brightly like the brightest star that could be seen for countless miles around.
Soon, after ten seconds, the light dies down and Devon descends down gently onto the glass-stained platform, feeling more stronger than ever. He looks over himself, noticing that his clothes were still in its Formchange, then glances down at the floor beneath him. The Keyblade Wielder stares down at his peaceful, meditative image for a moment, then shifts his gaze over at Luna, staring at her beautiful light blue eyes and the happy, loving smile on her face. Then, he looks down at his hands as the pearlescent Kanji symbol of Light (光) appeared, floating over the open palm of his right-hand, while the indigo blue Kanji symbol of Darkness (闇) appeared floating in his other hand. Both sigils slowly spun counterclockwise, surrounded by particles of light and darkness for their respective sides. With a determined smile on his face, Devon closes his hands around the sigils, then looks up as a bright star shines high above him.
"Sora... Riku..." Devon says
The light from the star stretches down to the Station of Awakening, turning the world completely white, and shines down on the young teen. Devon stares up at the light and smiles, then closes his eyes as the warmth of the light engulfs him, transporting him out of his soul world.
On Sora and Riku's side, the two islanders were down on their knees after taking a serious beating from Darkus, who stood before them, gazing down with a sinister smirk on his pale face.
"Hmph! I was hoping for more of a challenge fighting you two. But I guess it matters not. You came down here to save your friend, but it's too late. His heart and body is mine. Nothing can bring him back." Darkus says
Darkus brings his hands together infront of his chest and he conjures up a black-red orb of darkness, which emitted a dark aura and sporadic red bolts of electricity.
"And now, time has run out for you. Prepare to meet your end!" Darkus says
Darkus raises the dark orb above his head and it grows larger and larger, about the size of a gigantic boulder. The electricity grew intense as more bolts streaked out chaotically. Sora and Riku grunted and braced themselves for the inevitable, while Darkus looked down at them with a sinister grin.
"Drown forever in darkness!" Darkus yells
Just as he was about to bring the dark sphere down on Sora and Riku, Darkus suddenly froze, stopping mid-way. He began grunting in pain as if something inside was hurting him.
"Gaaah! Aaaaaugh!" Darkus exclaims
The evil Heartless clutches his chest with both hands and tosses himself around left and right as he tries to fight against the pain.
"What... is happening?!" Darkus exclaims
Darkus' body began to glow with a blue-white color, and a bright light appears on his chest, shining brightly through his hands.
"Gaaaaaaah!" Darkus says
"Come on! Now's our chance!" Sora says
While Darkus was still groaning in pain, Sora and Riku rise up to their feet, summon their Keyblades: Kingdom Key and Way to the Dawn, and attack together. Sora strikes the humanoid Heartless with six quick somersault slashes, flipping forwards and backwards three times each, then ge follows up with three wide-sweeping slashes, a thrusting strike, and an overhead strike, while Riku attacks with a downward slash, a wide left and right slash, two backflip slashes, a thrusting strike, and a right upwards slash.
Afterwards, the two boys warp away to the other side of the Station of Awakening and rise up a few feet into the air with Sora enveloped in a golden aura of light, and Riku with an indigo aura of darkness. Then, they charge forward at Darkus, bombarding him with headlong rushing strikes, warping between each strike and attacking from all directions ten times. Finally, Sora and Riku appear infront of Darkus and stab their glowing Keyblades into body, striking the exact spot where the light was shining in his chest, delivering the final, devastating blow.
Darkus staggers backwards in four steps, clutching his chest with both hands with the light in his body shining brighter than before. Unable to withstand the pain any longer, the human Heartless thrusts his chest outwards, spreading his arms and screaming out in agony.
"Aaaaaaaaggghhh!" Darkus screams
A black and purple aura surrounds Darkus and he falls backwards in slow motion, collapsing onto the glass-stained floor. Sora and Riku de-summon their Keyblades and stare down at Darkus' defeated form. Then, they watch in shock and surprise as the dark aura fades away from his body, and Darkus changes back into Devon. A pool of darkness appears underneath the Keyblade Wielder and he slowly sinks down into it.
"Devon!" Sora and Riku exclaim in unison
Sora and Riku quickly ran over to Devon and dropped down on all fours to try and save their best friend, but they were unable to grab hold of him and could only watch helplessly as Devon was devoured by the darkness. Soon, the black pool shrunk and disappeared, leaving the two islanders alone on the Station of Awakening. Sora and Riku sighed in defeat until they looked over at their left and noticed the Keyblade: Dark Revenant was left behind. Then, they watched in surprise as the Dark Keyblade changed in a flash of light, transforming into a blue crystalline Keyblade: Soul Calibur. Sora, who was closest, picks up the Keyblade with his left-hand, and both he and Riku rise to their feet. They gaze upon the ancient weapon, admiring its pure crystal, then glance down at the floor, staring at the calm, sleeping image of its owner.
"Alright, Devon. Time for you to wake up." Sora says
Sora held Soul Calibur straight out in his hands and the tip of the crystal Keyblade shone brightly. A golden Keyhole appears in the center of the Station of Awakening, right over Devon's chest in the glass-stained floor. Sora jumps up several feet into the air with a backflip and gazes down at the Keyhole, keeping it within his sights. He was about to use Soul Calibur on it when Riku joins him, floating alongside him on his right and placing his right-hand over Sora's hands. He nods his head with a supportive smile, and Sora returns the gesture before focusing back to the task at hand. A beam of light shoots out from the tip of the crystal Keyblade, striking the Keyhole, causing it to shine brightly. The light from the Keyhole engulfs the two boys, transporting them out of Devon's heart and back to the Realm of Light.
(The Celestial Temple)
Back in the Inheritor's Study, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Lea, Luna, Spyro, Cynder, the Viking Teens and their dragons, The Inheritor, Vervada, Master Yen Sid, and Ignitus waited patiently for Devon to awaken from his slumber as they stood around him. Suddenly, a blue light briefly flashes from Devon's chest and two smaller lights float out of his body, turning into Sora and Riku as they both appeared in the room.
"Sora! Riku! You're back!" Mickey exclaims
"How's Devon?" Riku asks
"He's still asleep." Luna says
Everyone looks over at Devon, who was still sleeping.
"But... me and Riku... We both dived into Devon's heart, and we fought someone who claimed to be his darkness." Sora says
"And after that we both opened a Keyhole using Devon's Keyblade, which we assumed was the key to awakening Devon's heart." Riku says
"Right. So, shouldn't he be awake by now?" Sora asks
The group turns to the Inheritor as he rose up from his seat. The holy being stretches his right-hand out towards Devon and a blue-white aura envelopes it. He closes his glowing blue eyes for a moment, but soon opens them up with a smile.
"Yes. Devon is safe. He is free from the darkness that was trapping him in his nightmare, but there is one final task that he alone must accomplish before he can return to us." The Inheritor says
Everyone felt relieved at knowing that Devon was now safe and were hopeful at waiting for the moment when he would finally awaken from his slumber. Sora smiled. He was so excited that he couldn't wait for his best friend to wake up. Then, an idea formed in his head.
"Okay. Well, let's all have a party. We'll surprise Devon until he gets back." Sora says
"Yeah!" Donald says
"Gawrsh. That sounds like a great idea." Goofy says
"Oh, yeah! Count me in!" Snotlout says
"Yeah! Me too!" Tuffnut says
"Me three!" Ruffnut says
"I'm in, too." Fishlegs says
"How can you guys think of a party at a time like this?" Riku asks
"I guess that's just Sora's nature." Lea says shrugging his shoulders
"I actually agree with Sora. We could all use a good party to calm down from all this excitement." Hiccup says
Toothless, who stood next to the left of his rider on his haunches, nodded his head in agreement. Spyro and Cynder shared glances with each other and shrugged their shoulders, then smiled and nodded their heads, joining in on Sora's idea. Even the Inheritor and Master Yen Sid both agreed with the spikey-haired teenager as they stretched out their right-hands towards the right-side of the room. A table magically appeared with several chairs and a wide selection of food, even some barrels of fish for the dragons.
"Wow..." Fishlegs says
"Awesome!" Tuffnut and Ruffnut say in unison
"That's quite a spread." Cynder says
"Yeah! That's what I'm talking about!" Snotlout says
"Alright! What are we waiting for? Let's dig in!" Sora says
While everyone else dashed for the food, Luna, Riku, Mickey, Spyro, Cynder, Hiccup, Astrid, The Inheritor, Master Yen Sid, Vervada, and Ignitus kept vigil over Devon. The female Night Fury leaned closer to her beloved rider and nuzzles the right-side of his head with her head as she spoke to him, hoping that her voice would reach him.
"Everyone's waiting for you, Devon. Please come back to us." Luna says
(Destiny Islands)
Devon opened his eyes and found himself standing on the docks of Destiny Islands with the orange sun hovering just over the horizon. The Keyblade Wielder turns around to his left and saw Draxon standing behind him.
"Draxon?" Devon says confused
"What is it you're so afraid of?" Draxon asks
Devon was a little confused as to the question, but he glances down in thought for a moment before giving his answer.
"Losing something that's important." Devon says
The moment Devon answered, Draxon faded away and disappeared before his eyes. Devon looked around a bit, feeling slightly confused, but he soon shrugged it off and walked down to the beach. There, he met Ventus, one of the missing Keyblade Wielders. As he stared at the spikey-haired boy, memories of him came flowing back into his mind, and he remembers all the times they shared together he was a kid. Visions of their first meeting, when they both smiled, laughed, and played with each other during their time in the Land of Departure.
"Ven..." Devon says
"What is the one thing you care about more than anything else?" Ventus asks
Devon was brought back to thinking of an answer, and he soon gave it to Ventus.
"My close friends. The ones I hold dear to my heart." Devon says
And just like before with Draxon, Ventus vanished into thin air, leaving the Keyblade Wielder even more confused than before.
"What's going on?" Devon asks
Devon looked over to his left and saw someone sitting on the bent Paopu tree. He heads up to the islet, walks across the wooden bridge, and saw Xion sitting alone.
"Who are you? I never caught your name." Devon asks
"Devon, What do you wish?" Xion asks
"More questions, huh? All right." Devon says
Devon walks over to Xion and leans back against the tree, crossing his arms and closing his eyes in thought.
"I wish..." Devon says
It took him a while to think of what he would wish for, but Devon soon gave Xion his answer.
"To recover something important that I lost." Devon says
The chosen hero looked out toward the sunset, and a bright light blinds his vision. When the light dies down, the young teen was back standing on the beach. He soon spotted a bottle floating along the waters of the shore. Devon picked up the bottle with his right-hand and saw a message inside it.
"What's this?" Devon asks
"At last, we meet, Devon." A male voice says
Devon turned around to his left and saw Ansem the Wise, who he remembered first meeting in The World That Never Was after sacrificing himself to destroy the artificial Kingdom Hearts that Xemnas and the previous Organization XIII created.
"Ansem the Wise? What are you doing here?" Devon asks
"Perhaps I want to atone for events of the past, even if no apology can undo the harm I wrought. I felt... that I ought to leave at least something behind. So I digitized myself and my research, and hid them within your friend, Sora. Curiously, that data somehow found it's way into your heart as well." Ansem the Wise says
Devon looks down at the bottle in his right-hand.
"So... this is data?" Devon asks
"Yes. A clue, I hope, to finding yourselves or your lost friends in your hour of need. The heart has always been quick to grow. Each exposure to light, to the natural world, to other people, shapes this most malleable part inside of us. Nobodies are not different from us in that manner. You and Sora were the only ones able to return to your human forms without destroying your Nobodies. That was a statement to the love in your heart for other people, and the bond that ties them together. Perhaps, you have the power to bring back the hearts and existences of those connected to you, to recreate people we thought were lost to us forever. Our most precious treasures, even an empty puppet, the trees of the forest, and the petals of the wind. There are hearts around us everywhere we look. And it does not take superhuman powers to see them. Surely, we remember as children the way our hearts made everything seem so shiny and perfect. You have a heart like that, Devon. Uncorrupted, willing to see the good before the bad. When you see the heart in something, it becomes real. When a connection seems broken, you have the power to mend it. You, Devon, have touched countless hearts. Accepted them. Even saved them. And some of those hearts have never left you. Whether they fell into darkness, or were trapped there, whether they sleep in the darkness of your heart, or were welcomed into it's warmth. They can be saved. All you need to do, is be yourself and follow wherever it is your heart takes you. It is the best and only way. The rest is in there." Ansem the Wise says
Devon glances down at the bottle in his hand, then looks back up at Ansem the Wise.
"All right. Thanks." Devon says smiling
"Of course. Now why is it that you are here?" Ansem the Wise asks
Devon glances down for a moment, then looks off into the ocean, staring out at the orange sunset.
"I don't know. At first, I was training to become a Keyblade Master. As part of my Mark of Mastery Exam, I was tasked with traveling to many worlds and helping people. But I was completely unaware that I was falling right into Teridax' trap. I nearly lost my soul to the darkness inside me, but I found the strength to conquer it. Now, I guess, I'm just trying to find a way back to my friends, who are probably scared to death about me." Devon says
"Never fear. They are safe." Ansem the Wise says
"Is there any way I can return to them?" Devon asks glancing back at the sage-king
"Yes. There is." Ansem the Wise says
Ansem the Wise turns right and faces Devon as he explained.
"You see, your friends, Sora and Riku, dove into your heart to save you, and they defeated the Nightmare that imprisoned you. At the same time, you defeated the evil version of yourself, and gained power over both Light and Darkness, restoring your heart into balance. Then, you came here, and you were questioned by three young people." Ansem the Wise says
Devon remembered when Draxon, Ventus, and Xion asked him questions.
"They were the final key to awakening you from your deep slumber." Ansem the Wise says
The sage-king turns to his right and faces the Keyblade Wielder.
"You are free, Devon. You can return home now." Ansem the Wise says
"Really? Thank you." Devon says smiling
Devon summons his trusted Keyblade: Soul Calibur into his right-hand, and a golden Keyhole appeared in the sky. He aims his crystal Keyblade up at the Keyhole and fires a beam of light, striking it and causing the sky around it to shatter like glass. The Keyhole shines brightly, creating a white portal to the Realm of Light. Devon rises up into the air, levitating a few feet above the beach. He turned back toward the sage-king, who nodded his head and smiled. The Keyblade Wielder smiled back and returned the gesture, then flies up towards the light.
"Don't worry, guys. I'm coming home." Devon says on his thoughts
Devons flies into the portal, leaving the digital version of Destiny Islands and travels back to the Celestial Temple to finally reunite with his best friends, and become the Legendary Keyblade Master.
Author's Note: So, the group is finally back at the Celestial Temple with Devon, who unfortunately is trapped in a comatose state. Sora and Riku both dive into Devon's heart and they face off against the Armored Ventus Nightmare, while Devon goes up against Darkus, who is introduced as his evil Heartless counterpart. Both sides fight in epic battles, but in the end, our heroes emerge victorious. And Devon gains a new Formchange: Double Form. Now, it's back to the Celestial Temple, where Devon, Sora, and Riku shall finally fulfill their destinies and become full-fledged Keyblade Masters. Only one chapter left, and then Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance is finally finished. For voice reference, Darkus is voiced by Mark Bazeley, who portrayed the Sith Warrior from the MMOG Star Wars: The Old Republic.
