-[ At the Tower of Heaven]-
6 months later, X776
"Hello, young man. Welcome to our humble home. You slept for a while so you probably don't know the rules. So let me educate you." He brought his hand up and punched the boy into the ground, grunting at the force.
"Get up you little shit! Time to work!" He grabbed his staff and unleashed a wave of thunder on the small child. The boy shook in pain at the sudden attack. The attack ended and the boy tried to lift himself but was kicked forward to join the crowd. He moved along with the tall slaves and came into an open cave.
He saw people gathering crates and rocks together. Placing them on floating platforms and bringing them to designated areas. He saw the masked men whipping people who moved slowly with a strange, glowing whip.
He looked up at the rocks and rubble breaking in front of him. He followed the examples that the other men and children were making. He reached out and grabbed the first stone he found and threw it into a growing pile.
He continued to grab the dense rocks and throw them. Listening to the screams and pains that played around him.
After hours of work, a loud bell pierced the cave. When Naruto looked around, he saw that the rest of the slaves were leaving. He decided to follow the crowd in the halls and into the cells. After a few minutes he finally arrived at the area he usually used for this task.
He made several clones, all of whom jumped up and stuck to the roof. He was using his clones to locate the exits, entrances, and secret places all around the tower. But today was different, it was time to move. To take back what was his.
"It is time. Go to where Ascalon is. I need a weapon to knock out the enemies and my costume to cover my identity while I eliminate the guards." Naruto ordered the clones as they all nodded and took off to their destination.
Naruto on the other hand watched silently as his clones started making their move. He had every one of his clones a designated task. If all worked well as planned, he would be able to take down the cult leader today. But the only problem was, he had to wait for his first clone to bring his equipment.
Over these months, Naruto hadn't been able to make many friends out of his cellmates. Zabrock and Erik just pissed him off the wrong way. They were always talking negatively and bringing everyone's hopes down.
Richard and Sawyer were good acquaintances. They were cheerful and talked sometimes about their past life to him. Their expectations to one day achieve a dream of their own drove them forward. He didn't know much about them but they were decent guys.
Macbeth was pretty traumatized. He was sometimes worried that the boy may someday have a mental breakdown because of his insomnia. Naruto talked on several occasions with him and found out about his problem with the sounds in the tower that prevented him from sleeping peacefully.
Angel was a whole different case. She could be called his only friend here. He found out that her innate magic was celestial spirit magic and decided to help her with that regard and talked to her about spirits. He told her everything Aries and his father told him about being a great celestial spirit mage.
He told her about Aries. He requested that if she ever met her and she was working under a cruel master then Angel would help her with the Fuinjutsu: contract seal. He had her promise him that she wouldn't use it for the wrong purpose.
Although he trusted her entirely, he couldn't risk his magic being used for some dark work. She told him about her little imouto that she hoped to find one day. She was also pretty fond of the name he gave her. She now told everyone to refer to her as Angel.
For some reason, this pissed off Zabrock as he broke out in a brawl with him every time he called her angel. He had this habit of calling him "blonde bastard" and never used his real name.
Naruto paid him little mind, he knew there was no use correcting him. Also, kaa-chan told him to never use such bad words! If he followed anyone's words it would be his kaa-chan's.
His clones had taken out his sealing supplies and he had begun using counter seals to prevent the traps from activating. Although the main hall was too open to do such a thing so that was the only area with working countermeasures for a revolt.
However, today was a special day. He had noticed tension in the air for some time now. He had heard that some kids had tried to escape through some underground pathway. However, they were unfortunately discovered while trying to escape.
As a punishment for this act of "treason", as the jailer liked to call it a girl named erza was taken to the top floors and tortured. He didn't know anything about this girl but he decided to save her before the cult members decided to make an example out of her for others who were thinking about escaping.
He would use the hammer while the metal was hot...
-[Sometime later, Erza's Cell]-
A young girl with red scarlet hair, brown eyes, and a thin frame with tattered clothing was currently hunched over. She was crying profusely, supporting her weight with her arms and knees. She had bandages wrapped around one of her eyes.
Around her, a group of people was watching her with slight worry and extreme sadness. A girl with brown hair, the same clothing, and cat-like features was watching with tears in her own eyes.
A boy with black hair, slightly muscular and tall build with dark eyes was supporting another boy who appeared to be younger than him. This boy had dark skin, blonde hair, and black eyes.
A boy slightly older than the others was holding onto the pants of an old man with a long white beard who was sitting in a cross-legged position. The boy's most distinctive feature appeared to be his body which was shaped in geometric figures. He had black hair, an oddly shaped chin, and thick lips.
"What did you do to nee-san" the blonde-haired boy shouted in rage at the guard holding Erza's hands.
"Relax sho, it is lucky that she is even alive and has returned to us... As for jellal, we will just hope that he will be fine as well!" The old man spoke to the younger kids with a soothing tone that was strained. He sighed in worry as the thought of a blue-haired kid entered his mind.
"I-I am sorry, Rob-jii-san. Because of me, jellal had to go through all of this!" The red-haired girl spoke up with a very heavy voice and more tears leaked out from her eyes.
The guard holding her however started laughing hysterically," HAHAHAHAH! You think the boy's gonna make it out alive old coot! You just need to count your days! That boy will die today! You can apologize to him in the afterlife"
As soon as he finished uttering those words, suddenly his hands holding the girl were forced apart by said girl. She turned around and punched the guard hard in the face causing him to stumble backward and fall back on his rear.
'Such strength...'a guard standing to the sides thought with slight surprise at the surprising strength the girl had to force an elder man back.
"W-What are you doing?!! Are you all trying to..."
"They are revolting..." another guard shouted in rage before pointing his magic staff at the red-haired girl.
But what happened next surprised everyone. The guard to the side who was observing everything silently brought out a crimson-sheathed sword and slashed at the arm of the guard holding the magic staff, cutting it in half cleanly.
Blood spurt out from the now cut-off arm while the man began screaming and rolling on the ground in pain. Everyone was shocked to the core by this! No one moved an inch and even the sound of a pin dropping to the floor could be heard clearly. They noticed then that the guard's earlier exclamation hadn't received any response.
Normally after such announcements, all the guards would gather up immediately to apprehend the revolters. But now was a whole different story...
They looked out to see all the guards lying on the floor, unconscious. All the remaining slaves working in the corridor were staring fearfully at a lone figure standing in the middle of the scene with the same sword in his hands. He then turned toward the assaulting guard and started walking toward him...
"Ew! Your blood is so disgusting! Ascalon is going to vomit fire for sure this time!" A very childish voice spoke from within the guard's helmet with a disgusted tone. The guard then vanished in a poof of smoke.
The figure with the white cloak and a bandanna covering his whole face walked towards them. He had bright azure blue eyes which seemed to have a mirthful but at the same time a very serious look. The figure had a child-like build too...
" So, it seems the task is complete. I wonder if I should report this to the boss now!" The same voice asked rhetorically.
"W-WHO THE HELL ARE YOU?" The guard who was hit by the red-haired girl shouted out in panic.
" Oh! One of you remained.*sigh* What a pain! Listen, everyone is down for good here. The only guards remaining are on the top floor!" The figure told them in annoyance much to their surprise.
All the guards except for the top floor were defeated! And they didn't even make a sound! Just who the hell is this guy?
The figure then turned to the group of people in front of him and locked eyes with the old man. The old man moved in front of the younger children and spread his arms wide protectively," Who are you? And what do you want with us? Are you someone trying to take over this place?!!"
At the old man's exclamation, the childlike figure scoffed and crossed his arms in annoyance," What! Nonsense. I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing in million years, you old coot! And I am not a scumbag like these guys!"
He then proceeded to knock out the remaining guard with a hard hit to the back of his neck.
Hearing the disrespect in his tone for her father-like figure, the red-haired girl snapped, "Don't be mean to Jii-san! Apologize now!"
The girl demanded as if scolding a child while everyone around her stared at her like she was crazy! The figure on the other hand finally took notice of her and his eyes widened in complete surprise. Images of a very familiar woman with the same tone of voice and hair entered his mind...
He shook his head and started laughing," Man! My body and voice don't make a great match for this costume..."
At this, every slave around them sweat-dropped. But suddenly his voice turned serious...
"Now, all guards here are knocked out and this is the best chance for all of you to get outta here! The only problem is in the main hall. I wasn't able to disable the security runes etched there."
"Thanks, young lad! When I saw you for the first time I knew you were up to something! But I wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing!"Rob said in a relieved and happy tone.
Everyone around had tears of happiness in their eyes. They didn't know what the old man was talking about or who this mysterious "child" was but they didn't care. They were going to be free! True freedom!
While some other members of the group had more worries. The figure or rather the Naruto clone smiled knowingly at the old man.
" But what about jellal? He is on the top floor. I'll never go back and leave him here!" The red-haired girl suddenly chirped into the conversation with iron-clad determination.
"Alright! But only the mage can come to the top floor with me. Others will just head out to the boarding ships!" Naruto told everyone sternly referring to Rob as a mage.
Erza was about to retort but was cut off by a rough hand giving her a reassuring squeeze on her shoulder. She looked at Rob's eyes along with his reassuring smile and accepted reluctantly.
All of the slaves cheered in happiness for their freedom while Naruto looked for any impending dangers. They entered the main hall and every one carefully headed for the exit.
Naruto remained behind with Rob, who was going to head towards the top floor to rescue this jellal guy. Suddenly from his back, a magical beam pierced his skull and he went out in a poof of smoke.
Many magic troops and guards started entering the hall with their magical weapons ready.
" Now that the brat is dead! Let's take those traitorous slaves back and make them work to their bone."
All the slaves were now hopeless and frightened. Others from Erza's group were really sad due to the apparent death of their savior.
The magic troops then started using a spell that was aimed at Erza to instantly kill her. Rob seeing this appeared in front of Erza and stood in front of her while casting a reflective spell to defend everyone.
The spells were launched and rob used all of his magic power which was his life force to defend Erza. He looked back towards Erza as slowly life seemed to leave his eyes and he started fading away.
But not before uttering his last words to his charge...
"I may be old, and my magic may not be strong as it once was, but I still have enough to protect my friends! I will not let you kill anyone anymore!" Rob yelled out as he controlled the fire around him and sent it back at the troops.
"I NEVER THOUGHT I COULD SEE A SMILE LIKE THAT AGAIN, IN A PLACE LIKE THIS... FREEDOM IS IN YOUR HEART"
As Rob's body faded away in specks of light Erza looked on in horror as her father figure dissolved into the never-ending journey of the afterlife. Her magic power began increasing...
" NO! ROB-JII-SAN! GAAAAAAAH!" A large magic seal appeared underneath her and the swords lying around her lifted themselves in the air and started floating. They were launched toward all the guards and pierced them all.
" Magic...Nee-san just unlocked Magic!" The blonde kid exclaimed in joy and hope began filling everyone as they saw all the guards being decimated by Erza.
The black-haired kid to his side just looked on in admiration and slight sadness at the girl he liked...
-[With the real Naruto]-
The real Naruto was waiting outside on the ships with his cellmates. He had played the innocent part and helped evacuate everyone from the tower.
He had acquired all of his belongings and was sitting beside Angel with his cellmates who were all happy and excited at the prospect of achieving true freedom.
He suddenly felt a very faint but familiar magic presence from the tower and his eyes widened.
'This magic signature...Ultear...Did she come here to rescue me or something...'
But before he could think more he received his Clone's memories and a high magical presence seemed to appear inside the main hall of the building. He connected the dots and concluded that this was something related to this rescue jellal thing the girl was talking about.
Although he was more curious about Ultear's presence here. He had to check this out but not before completing his promise to his cellmates.
He jumped out of the boat and pushed it away into the water where it started floating away from the Island. Angel and the others were surprised as well as worried about his weird behavior.
"Naruto, What are you doing?" Angel asked while the ship was getting away from the island so she had to increase her voice a little.
"Don't worry! They took something from me and I want it back! You guys go ahead. I don't want them to catch you if they get me!" Naruto shouted before sprinting away and heading toward the top floor of the tower.
"Geez, that guy is creepy. He was always trouble. I'm glad that we are not going to see his face again..." Zabrock started speaking but was silenced, courtesy of harsh glare from Angel.
Angel turned back to the spot Naruto was standing and frowned. She was really worried that perhaps these people would capture him again...
She just hoped that he would make it out and they would meet again. If not she would return strong and help him get away from this place...
-[At the top floor of the tower]-
Naruto was running along the walls of the tower to reach his destination while Ultear's presence was getting away quickly. He increased his pace and jumped upwards in hopes of intercepting her before she got away.
But before he could further continue, a red blur crashed through the upper floor and into him, making him yelp comically and fall along with the red-haired girl from before.
He corrected himself midair and caught her unconscious form bridal style before he started floating in the sky. He looked down at her and couldn't help but stare at her beautiful red hair that reminded him so much about his kaa-chan.
He noticed her magical power and the sword she was holding in one hand. He smiled when he realized that she had been the one to complete his incomplete task.
But his smile turned into a frown when he noticed her bruised and battered state. Her magical power had also drained her off and if she didn't receive the immediate treatment she could sustain heavy or perhaps lethal damage.
He looked up again and noticed the lack of presence he was searching for.
'Dammit! She's not here anymore...!'
He decided it would be better if he took this girl to safety and helped her. Then afterward he could investigate Ultear's sudden appearance and disappearance.
-[A day later]-
Erza woke up from her slumber with a massive headache and sore muscles all over her body.
It was dawn time and she could barely register the heat of a blanket and a fireplace beside her. She tried to get up and check out her surroundings but collapsed backward due to the lack of her energy.
The sound of chirping and wing flaps approaching from her left prompted her to look to the side. On the opposite side of the fire was a boy her age sitting on a log. She also noticed him feeding the rice ball pieces to some birds near the fireplace.
"Oh! You are awake! Hmm, you were out for about a half day! So how are you feeling and what's your name?" Naruto asked with a happy voice.
Erza was a bit sleepy and didn't notice her current condition. After all, at the tower, she always experienced pain when she woke up. But she felt that the voice of this boy was a bit familiar.
"My name is Erza. Who are you if I may ask?" Erza said still having half-lidded eyes.
"I am Naruto Namikaze. But you are crazy," At this Erza had a tick mark on her head, "I mean you just crashed into me from the top floor. But why would you do such a thing you should've just escaped while you had the chan...", Naruto started talking with a casual tone but noticed the sudden look of horror on the girls face and the tears spilling through her eyes.
Erza, by now had the whole experience of last night crash into her head. She remembered all the crazy things from the recent two days. Their failed attempt to escape, her punishment, then jellal's punishment, the mysterious savior, his and rob-jii-san's death, and lastly jellal's crazy change to find true freedom.
She started crying and covered her eyes with both her arms trying to hide them away from this stranger beside her.
As this was going on Naruto remained silent and sighed. From past experience, he could tell she needed time to sort this out for herself. People tended to make important decisions in such a time. He couldn't tell what exactly went wrong, perhaps because of his lack of personal presence, there had been some casualties.…..
"No!... Rob-jii-san...everyone, I am sorry. All of them are still in the tower and R-Rob-jii-san had to sacrifice his life to protect me." Erza continued to sniffle while mumbling some incoherent words in between sobs.
Naruto could see the same eyes as himself when his village was destroyed. It reminded him of the same feelings he felt when they all sacrificed themselves to protect him.
But he decided perhaps Ablaze's words that made him strong in such conditions could help Erza too...
Naruto walked towards Erza's shuddering figure and came into her view.
"Those who sacrifice themselves for us are expecting something from us. They sacrifice themselves because they hand over all the hope and faith they have for themselves to us. To make them proud we live on while keeping them alive in our hearts and memories. I am sure the old coot would also want you to have a happy life and live up to his expectations, Erza." Naruto finished while giving her a soft and charming smile.
Erza looked up at Naruto and felt relieved. She felt warm at her heart from within and felt her cheeks heat up looking at his cute face. She didn't know why but decided it was a pleasant feeling and accepted it. She smiled a genuine smile at his words and his attempt to cheer her up, which seemed to be working.
But something clicked in her head as she heard his last sentence and looked at his face carefully.
"Thanks, young lad! When I saw you for the first time I knew you were up to something! But I wasn't sure if it was a good or bad thing!"
She suddenly remembered Rob's words to the cloaked figure and now understood everything clearly. Her eyes went wide in surprise and her voice was caught up in her throat. Her eyes began welling up with tears and her lips began quivering.
Naruto noticed her current state and began panicking. The flaming flying chicken's words weren't of any use here! How did he calm down with his words then? Was he fooled? Thoughts began flooding his mind as his self-doubt about his intelligence began rising.
But he needed to take care of the crying girl first, "Oi, what happened? I didn't mean to make you sad. I just wanted to cheer you up!..."
He flailed his arms frantically but was suddenly tackled to the ground by Erza in a bone-crushing hug. More tears leaked out of her eyes but this time she calmed down in his embrace as Naruto wrapped his hands around her trembling form tenderly.
"Y-You are that boy from the recent batch. B-But y-y-you d-died..." She whimpered out in between sobs.
Naruto now understood why she was crying. Having someone who has gone through the same as her must be a great support for her. No matter how strong a person is, mental damage can never be recovered without the help of the right person or time.
"It was a clone of mine. One of my magic. I was with my cellmates and I was going to depart with them on my ship when I received my clone's memories and came back to help." Naruto explained while helping her to sit down on a log.
He handed her some rice balls while he started uncovering the dirty bandages wrapped around her eye. Erza winced and tried to back off, so as to not show her damaged eye to anybody but complied reluctantly in the end.
"Water Arts: Sacred Cure!" He murmured to himself.
He started using his water slayer magic's healing abilities the best he could. The wound wasn't treated properly, so he decided he would do his best to help her so that the wound isn't infected.
Erza felt warm and gentle energy entering her system. Her magic was chaotic and made her energetic but his magic was gentle and made her feel relaxed. She decided she enjoyed this feeling...too!
"You know, you shouldn't cry. I don't like when girls with red hair cry. It makes my heart ache, a lot..." Naruto blurted out after the comfortable silence they were sharing. His tone was nostalgic and bittersweet. His eyes had a downcast look which was filled to the brim with sadness.
"I like how you stood up for your friends when my clone died. I really admire such strength. And to tell the truth I envy you for your ability to be able to help your friends. I always bring misery to everyone I am around." Naruto continued with a solemn tone
Erza, on the other hand, was blushing furiously almost as red as her hair while looking into his blue azure eyes. She couldn't help but be driven to them and the sadness inside them made her cringe. She wanted to make him feel better too.
She understood that perhaps he was talking about his past that she didn't know about but didn't push too much...
"No! You haven't caused misery to me! You inspired me. You are strong despite being my age and you helped me too! So you don't have to lie to yourself. I think you are a great person, so you should also be gentle towards yourself!" Erza spoke in a soft and caring voice which was opposite to her fear-filled or sometimes commanding voice.
Naruto looked upwards and found her eyes full of sincerity. He couldn't help the soft smile that made its way to his face, he felt reassured. Perhaps he had some hope and would have more friends...
"So, What are you going to do? Now that you have the freedom you needed?" Erza asked curiously. She thought everyone had some plans at the Tower for when they were going to escape that place.
" I have no idea." Naruto shrugged his shoulders.
His answer caused Erza to facepalm and fall over comically but she sat up straight and dusted herself.
"What about you?" Naruto asked casually.
"I am going to join a wizard guild named Fairy Tail. Rob-jii-san told me about all of his adventures there. He also told me they are all great people and act like family to their members. So I'm gonna join this guild!" Erza exclaimed joyfully and with childish innocence that she seemed to lack due to her harsh past.
'Family...' Naruto thought bitterly and with a bit of hope. He looked at Erza and thought to himself for some time. He decided that he shouldn't let a girl go somewhere alone! And that's how he convinced himself to go to fairy tail.
He decided he wouldn't join it right away but check the place out. He would make sure Erza was safe too. It was his duty after all to look after a young girl like his father told him to. Also, she reminded him so much about his mother that it was oddly familiar to be around her. And to be honest he wanted this feeling more...
But that wasn't the reason for him to follow her there. He was just doing this out of kindness...That's right!
He nodded sagely to himself. He took out more riceballs and pulled out two more white cloaks from his pack, "Eat up so that we can get on the road to this fairy tail! This place seems nice!"
Erza looked up at him after his announcement. For some reason, the thought of him being together with her made her happy, and her heart fluttered with excitement.
-[Days Later, Hargeon]-
At the edge of the town of Hargeon, two cloaked individuals walked on a small road surrounded by trees heading to the port town. These two were Erza Scarlet and Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze. Their cloaks fluttered in the wind while they continued in silence.
One was in complete comfort while the other was in some apparent awkwardness that was visible due to her unsteady walking. Erza was not one for cloaks, it covered her whole body. While she didn't like too revealing clothes, she did indeed find the cloak a little bothersome. But she kept silent. At the moment they didn't have any money to buy her clothes.
Naruto noticed her discomfort but kept silent and looked on ahead. Everything was normal. He taught Erza what he knew about the basics of magic and swords on the way. He would have to admit she was good at what she was doing. He was impressed by her magic level and her control overall. It wasn't as good as Ultear's but he thought Erza had physical strength on her side.
As they entered the town, Naruto was bored out of his mind. He was patient and didn't mind the peace but walking aimlessly while having no purpose was not his style. He was a cheerful and energetic person besides the time he entered his serious or 'mission mode' as they were taught in Anbu.
Due to his musings, Naruto didn't notice Erza stopping in front of a shop. He walked a little away while Erza admired the contents of the store to her mind's satisfaction...
After a while Naruto finally snapped out of his stupor and looked behind to find Erza far behind, looking in a daze at a 'Heart Kruez' store. The store wasn't too flashy and had the basic armor and swords that could be used by most mages.
Although the high-quality products were specifically ordered, the ones in the store weren't exactly cheap and were sturdy enough to use normally. It wasn't a world-renowned brand for nothing!
Naruto knew how exactly Erza loved swords and she viewed armor not only as some physical but mental protection. So he decided a little gift wouldn't be too much of a hassle...
"Hey! You wanna have this one or should we look at the other choices too, huh? Erza?" Naruto asked as he approached Erza from behind.
Erza was startled by his sudden appearance and snapped out of her daze. She then blushed in embarrassment at being caught.
She looked at the price and shook her head in denial, "No! No need. We must save our money until we reach the guild. And you shouldn't bother yourself with such trivial things Naruto!"
"Nonsense! Something you like so much isn't trivial at all! I mean you are my friend now, so I must concern myself with such matters. And about money, don't worry it's covered." Naruto snorted and replied with a cheerfully sweet smile.
Ezra looked down avoiding his gaze and contemplating her decision. Whenever he said such sweet things she couldn't just reject and to be honest she really would like a set of armor. It would make her feel comfortable.
At least more than this cloak! She didn't understand why Naruto would use such a thing anyways! That's plain stupid!!
She nodded her head almost imperceptibly but Naruto caught on to it and smiled at her before they both entered the shop.
"Oh well...WAIT! Aren't you two a little too young to be here?!" The shopkeeper started greeting but then asked skeptically.
"I get that a lot. But are you trying to imply that you don't have anything for her?" Naruto waved him off casually and then pointed towards Erza while asking the question.
"Of course we have! But we don't have that many things for the young lady!" The shopkeeper said while looking at Erza.
"Alright, it doesn't matter! As long as it is magic conductive and strong and Erza likes it. Everything is fine!" Naruto said casually and stepped backward prompting Erza to follow the shopkeeper to look at more of the armor they had to offer.
Naruto waited for a little while reading a sealing scroll. He even was contemplating joining this guild. It wasn't like he didn't want to but perhaps his next task wasn't going to let him join it.
Just as Erza entered the main hall he decided he would work out things with the master once he got there. Naruto looked upwards to look at Erza and was pretty impressed by her clothing choice. Knowing that most her life she was a slave and all...
Erza had silver armor with the Heart kruez design on the center. She wore a blue skirt, black boots, and diamond-shaped earrings along with a sword strapped to her back.
"It looks nice! Now carry on. I'll be coming after you once I pay" He told her while walking to the counter with the shopkeeper.
Erza exited the shop soon followed by her companion, " Now how do we look for the guild?"
Just as Erza muttered the question, like a godsend, two civilians passing by had a conversation concerning the said guild.
"Oi, did you hear! A fairy tail mage destroyed half a city while fighting a dark guild!" The first one said.
"Really! They always do go overboard. One day they sure are going to get disbanded for doing so much damage" the second one said while both of them shared a hearty laugh.
"Man! But you must admit they are a pretty interesting bunch. They also take their jobs to heart." The first one spoke in appreciation.
Hearing the conversation, Erza couldn't help but grimace at the thought of her dream guild being indisciplined and destructive. While Naruto decided it was the best time to look for this guild.
"Excuse me, but do you know where Fairy tail is?" He asked with politeness grabbing the attention of both men.
"Sure, but why do you wanna know kid?" One of them asked quizzically.
"Me and my friend here wanna join up but we don't know where to go," Naruto told them.
"Although I don't know if they take in kids if you wanna go there take a train to Magnolia and you can easily ask anyone there to point out the guild." The second one said while looking at both the kids with apparent confusion.
Why would 10-year-old kids wanna join guilds at such a young age?...
Both Naruto and Erza looked at each other and nodded to themselves. They headed towards the train station and quickly got on the train to magnolia.
The "bucket of bolts" that helped them reach a destination faster were his words while explaining to Erza about the unique vehicle. She had to sweatdrop at the weird name Naruto gave most of the things.
-[Magnolia, A day later]-
Magnolia is located in the center of the southeastern part of Fiore, with the sea and Hargeon town not too far to the south, a series of minor built-up areas (namely Onibus, Kunugi, Oshibana, and Clover town) linked to it by a railway line to the north, and the state boundary with the nation of Bosco to the east.
Naruto and Erza both were standing outside the guildhall of fairy tail with different expressions. Naruto had a nonchalant expression but on the inside he was wary. Any guild, be it light or dark wasn't well thought of in their village. Heck! The magic council was deemed the most dangerous organization for their village.
Erza on the other hand was a little anxious and excited at the same time. The building itself was an imposing building consisting of three floors and incorporating several architectonic styles: it took on a shape reminiscent of a pagoda, with each floor being smaller than the one below it and sitting on the latter's roof. The roofs also bore great resemblance to those of real pagoda, consisting of extremely long, arched tiles lined up one after the other and possessing simple curved protrusions jutting upwards on the building's angles. On the highest roof, topping the summit of the building, sat a simple, round, and pointed dome, highly reminiscent of those seen on Arabian buildings, which bore a flag on its point. The roof below the one with the dome, the middle one, housed a large banner with Fairy Tail's symbol on it, held up by a pair of vertical poles. The building's large entrance was again Arabian in design, with its shape being reminiscent of that of the dome on the summit, and above it was the guild's name, topped by a protruding, stylized heart shapes and flanked by a pair of carved fairies. Stylized heart shapes were also visible on the frames of the numerous, large pentagonal windows located on each floor, with the top floor housing smaller, arched windows partially covered by banners.
Naruto took a deep breath for a moment before opening the gate along with Erza, they expected the guild to be a place full of super-powered wizards who could intimidate anyone with just a look... that's not what they saw.
"AH! Whoever threw a chair at me, show yourself you coward!"
It was the first thing they heard when they opened the door, inside several people were fighting, chairs, tables, and several other things flying randomly, Naruto froze when he saw this, but soon after he recovered and started to look around, he saw a counter with a waitress behind it and a short old man who sat on top of the bar while drinking an alcoholic drink with a happy expression, as if he didn't notice the fight that was going on in front of him.
Naruto spotted two kids around their age sitting at a table and playing cards. He sighed knowing that kids could join in. There was a girl with brown hair which was tied in ponytails and black eyes. She wore an orange bikini and brown knee-length pants with sandals.
The second one was a boy with dark blue hair and black eyes... who was sitting only in boxers! What the hell! Who sits half-naked in a place full of mages?
He averted his eyes from the weird sight. He noticed the short old man having the most magic power within the guild and approached him along with Erza.
"Hello! You seem to be the old-timer around here! You have more magic too! So please can you tell us who the master of this guild is?" Naruto questioned but not before adding a little insult. He loved teasing old people ever since his time with Ablaze.
The old man had a tick mark on his head in annoyance while Erza smacked him on the head, "Don't be mean to him Naruto! Apologize now!"
Naruto just chuckled and stuck his tongue out, further enraging Erza while Makarov nodded his head.
"Now the girl seems to be the polite one out of you! As for your question I am the master of this guild. My name is Makarov Dreyar, the third master of a fairy tail!" Makarov told them in annoyance but deep down he was surprised Naruto could sense his magic. Mostly people disregarded him because of his size.
Erza looked a little surprised after hearing such a small old man was a master while Naruto just nodded his head and entered his 'mission mode'
"I, Naruto Uzumaki Namikaze, and my friend Erza are looking to join your guild. Can you please tell us about the test to ensure our entry?" Naruto asked in a serious tone while Erza looked a little nervous to hear about the test.
Makarov is an extremely short, elderly man. He has black eyes and is growing bald with only the outer rims of his head containing white hair. He also has a thick white moustache. He has a black stamp of the Fairy Tail guild mark that covers his entire chest area. He was dressed casually, with an attire consisting of a white shirt with a black Fairy Tail stamp in the middle under an orange hoodie. His attire was completed with matching orange shorts and an orange and blue striped jester hat.
Makarov just raised a brow at his change in tone. He knew something was up when two people entered, carrying swords with cloaks and armor. The girl even had an eye patch. He had to wonder where they came from...
"Alright! You can join in. Where do you want your guild mark and in which color?" Makarov asked.
"J-Just like that! You are going to let us join without even asking us what kind of magic we use?" Erza asked incredulously.
"I don't need to ask. I can sense your magic. You have a pretty large reserve for someone your age while the boy seems to have none at all! Nonetheless, I will find out your magic over time." Makarov told her but was then surprised as he sensed some magic from the boy which emerged out of nowhere.
Erza was looking at Makarov like he was crazy! Naruto not having magic! She wouldn't admit it but she thought Naruto was the best mage she had ever seen. He was very powerful for their age even to the point she admired him like a hero!
Naruto just smiled innocently while looking at Makarov...
After recovering from his surprise he just took the guild stamp and walked over to Erza," Just tell me why you wanna join the guild?"
"I was told about your guild by Rob-jii-san, one of your friends. He took care of me like a father and I wanna join this guild so that I can be linked to him forever!" Erza told him with sadness.
Makarov recognized the look in her eyes and was saddened. Seems like he wasn't going to meet one of his friends ever again...He would ask what happened afterward though!
Nonetheless, he gave the girl a guild stamp on her upper left arm in blue. He turned to the boy who was standing beside her and silently asked him the same question.
"I just wish to know if you have any more rules or conditions to joining?" Naruto asked again without answering the old man's silent question.
"Only one, no killing!" Makarov said sternly.
At that Naruto had a crestfallen look and he looked downward in shame, "Then I guess I can't join you! I have killed before so it goes against your motto!"
As everyone heard his bitter reply they froze in place and turned to look toward Naruto. A ten-year-old boy killing someone was horrible! They couldn't imagine a boy like Naruto killing someone while others looked at Naruto like he was some monster.
Naruto recognized the look like those given to him by the villagers and frowned. He sighed knowing there was no place he could belong to. Everywhere it was going to be the same. He was too tainted to live in the light and thought he would always remain in the shadows but he would never disregard his father's teachings.
Makarov himself searched the boy's eyes for some lies and to his dismay found none. This added to the curiosity bubbling inside him. This boy could erase his magic and his magic felt unusually thick even though it was little. He was now more curious about his magic too...
He was feeling conflicted about the boy. On one hand, a boy this innocent shouldn't even think about such a thing and he wanted to save him. On the other, he could be a potential flight risk, and with his unusual and suspicious abilities to erase his presence he could be a very dangerous dark mage...
Erza on the other hand was looking at Naruto like he had betrayed her or something. She never would've thought Naruto would do such a terrible thing! And yet he was accepting, committing such an act himself. She didn't know what to think of him anymore.
"I-I was s-six and lost control after losing someone very important. I massacred everyone who took them away and I don't know who or how many they were!" Naruto elaborated after the tense silence around the guild became too much to bear.
Makarov had a very concerned look on his face now while Erza was worried about her friend. Just how much had he gone through in his past and would she ever find out about it at all?
"You didn't do it for fun or evil purposes, the past cannot be changed. But my boy I only wish that you don't kill while you are a part of our guild. So now, will you join in?" Makarov asked in a grandfatherly tone that made Naruto feel warm for some reason.
The others started cheering while welcoming the new members. They weren't worried about the boy. If the master had faith in him then they would believe in him too...
Naruto was really surprised and truly happy after a long time. Finally! He had found someplace that accepted him. He decided then...
Erza on the other hand was happy for her friend and smiled genuinely. She didn't it like much when he was sad and he seemed happier now than ever. She also had a proud feeling within because she was the reason he found this guild. It made her happy that Naruto has found happiness because of her...
Naruto cleared his throat and everyone focused on him...
"Orange and on my left arm," Naruto told the old man as he lifted his sleeves.
Makarov nodded and placed the stamp on his arm before ruffling Naruto's blonde hair much to the boy's dismay. Everyone laughed when Naruto huffed and pouted childishly as a new party ensued soon afterward.
Naruto looked around at the happy people in the guild and decided now would be the best time to ask something very important to them.
'Wow, I never thought this would be so difficult...!'
"Can you guys do me a favor?..."
Everyone refocused on Naruto who had a very serious expression on his face and his next words surprised everyone including the master himself.
Seems like this new boy was much more than he looked to be...
