I DREAM OF RAINBOWS

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

The awesome and talented dowlingnana searched out my errors and corrected them.

As he looked closely, he felt the draw growing stronger and stronger, but he was determined that he was still going to stay in control of the situation for as long as he could. So, knowing that the best thing he could do at that moment was to leave, Edward bent down to softly moving the hair that was at Bella's temple out of the way and left a kiss in that one spot.

Gaining his full height once more, Edward turned and left the room.

CHAPTER 23: REACTIONS, QUESTIONS AND REFLECTIONS

Each of the women answered their phone and was met with a very unexpected surprise and gave a silent squeal of excitement at the same time. Rosalie and Alice were in a state of shock by hearing the name of the man they had been discussing being mention on the phone.

Emmett Cullen was asking if he was talking with Rosalie Hale and Jasper Cullen was asking if he was speaking with Alice Brandon? It did take several heartbeats before either woman was able to gather their wits together in enough time to answer "Yes."

Rosalie and Alice turned away from each other and began putting some distance between the two to be able to hold a private conversation with little chance of being overheard. Rosalie and Emmett carried on their quiet conversation the same as did Alice and Jasper.

But, the conversations, although separated, did follow the same subject line from the guys. They were asking the object of their desire out for a quiet dinner date for the following evening. And, the answer both women gave was the same, "Unfortunately, I can't, my cousin is being released from the hospital tomorrow. I want to make sure that's she going to be okay."

"Ms. Swan is being allowed to go home tomorrow?" Was the comeback from both Emmett and Jasper.

"Yeah, so I hope you understand my need to be with her. Perhaps, we can go out closer to the weekend?" Both Rosalie and Alice confirmed and then asked the last part in a bit of an unsure manner. Almost as if they were afraid that the dinner offer was going to be withdrawn.

"That will be fine. I'll give you a call in a couple of days and we'll get something set up then." Both Emmett and Jasper reassured the lady each was talking with.

After the call ended, Rosalie and Alice turned to face each other and went into a silly dance to express their excitement due to the phone call and the person that had made the call. Each woman had begun talking at the same time, stopped as if to wait for the other one to speak, but both started again at the same time again.

They were a bit disappointed that the dinner date requested for tomorrow had to be put off, but both felt they needed to be with Bella when she was released tomorrow.

Rosalie and Alice weren't the ones feeling a sense of disappointment and elation all at the same time, both Emmett and Jasper were experiencing the same emotions as the two women. But they had to be honest and admit that they weren't refused outright; the proposed date was postponed for a couple of days due to a family situation. That was something they could fully understand since family was important in their family. Family first and everything else second.

Moving on with other things, both brothers gave a passing thought to wondering what or who Edward was doing at the moment. They both truly hoped that Edward would listen to the advice of the parents and stop with his stubbornness to have his own way concerning the contract with Ms. Swan.

As they reached that thought, they each moved on to questioning what could have happened that would have put Ms. Swan in the hospital. What could have given her such a severe concussion like what she had received.

"Esme, do you really believe that Edward is going to change his attitude towards Ms. Swan?"

"My Dear Husband, he has been warned by both of us, so, all I can say is that he had better heed the warnings. And, with that said, I don't want to discuss the issue any further." Esme commented in a serious of tone letting Carlisle know that as far as she was concerned the matter was handled and the subject was closed.

Carlisle didn't say another word about Edward, but he was quiet for a short period of time. Esme took a quick glance over at him, raised an eyebrow as if asking a question and during that time watched the ever-changing expressions that seemed to cross her husband's face. Finally, she couldn't resist asking, "What has you in such deep thought?"

At first Carlisle didn't respond to her question, but he did finally answer her by asking a couple of questions of his own, "Did you notice how Edward responded to Ms. Swan when we all met at the office the other day? And, then at the hospital, did you notice how all of our boys behaved around Ms. Swan and her cousins?

"Es, I would say that emotions are riding high with all three of our sons." Then Carlisle finally responded to his wife's question after asking his questions with his statements, "From what I observed of Edward's behavior on the two separate occasions that he met with Ms. Swan, and from what I've seen of the reaction of our other two sons when they met Ms. Swan's cousins I would be willing to bet that three certain young women are going to be tying our boys, emotionally, up into knots.

"And, out of those three young women, a certain strong-willed lady is about to teach our Edward a lesson about humility and that compromise comes into play where relationships are concerned."

Esme stared at her husband for a moment and then as the vision of all that Carlisle had just described to her flashed across her mind, she burst out laughing. She got to laughing so hard that her jaws and stomach began to hurt from the strength of her laughter. And, as he sat watching her laughter, Carlisle couldn't help, but join in as he could just imagine the future of that scenario was racing to greet his sons head on. The funniest part of the whole situation is that he didn't think that any of the three boys realized what was about to grab them by the balls.

As she began to gain control of herself, Esme looked at Carlisle and said, "You know, remembering everything that you've mentioned a bit ago, I think that I have to agree with you. However, I do believe that the changes are going to come to Emmett and Jasper more softly than to Edward.

"Edward is going to fight to the death to try to maintain control of everything, and, we both know that he isn't going to win. But, Carl, I do think that Edward is going to feel a great hurt and a deep sense of loss before he will fully realize and admit to what his determined stubbornness did cost him.

"There will be nothing that we'll be able to do to prevent it. All that we'll be able to do is to be supportive but using commonsense as we do."

"I do agree with your view of the whole situation. Emmett and Jasper will be more accepting of things than what Edward will be. He'll refuse to believe in what he's feeling and will fight it all the way to hell and back. Even then he'll still have a hard time of letting go of his control and admitting to his feelings and accepting the changes that will need to be made.

"That boy has always been that way." Carlisle concluded. "I'm sure I don't know where the boy gets that trait."

"Look at your father and then tell me again that you don't know where Edward gets his desire to have control of things, but in regards to his stubbornness about things, I can say that he comes by that honestly from the both of us. We have a hard time admitting to defeat." Esme replied to Carlisle's comments concerning Edward's attitude about how he approaches things surrounding him.

After Carlisle agreed with Esme, they both continued to discuss what they thought might happen between Emmett and Jasper and Ms. Swan's two cousins. They questioned about the relationships possibly being a distance affair, or, if the two women might live closer; if they did then things wouldn't be too stressful on the two couples.

However, the relationship that would develop between Edward and Ms. Swan would be even more difficult no matter the distance involved. Edward would worry everything close to death and even then, try to control things. That was just Edward; what else could be said.

No, it was for sure that Edward was in for a lot of trouble that he would be bringing upon himself. A lot of hurt and grief that would lead to some very hard learnt lessons. These are lessons that both of his parents believed he needed to learn and that in the future they would make him a better man. And, both Carlisle and Esme felt that Ms. Swan was the very person that would teach him where no one else had been able to do so in the past.

Edward couldn't explain to himself why he felt he needed to leave Isabella Swan's room. Hell, he couldn't even explain to himself why he was feeling the feelings towards that damn infuriating woman that he was feeling. He didn't understand why he felt that he needed to rule her.

With any other woman that treated him the way she did, he would have said forget it and moved on to the next. He wouldn't even have let it bother him in the slightest. It wasn't like he had to beg for any woman's attention, and truth be told, he had never received the treatment that one Ms. Isabella Swan was giving him.

This crazy ass woman brought out feelings in him that he'd never felt for a woman before. He loved his Mom, but these feelings were different than what he felt for his mother. And, if he was being truthful, he felt that he was drowning and had no control over anything he was doing or feeling. He couldn't deal with not controlling things around him, or, what concerned him. It almost threw him into a panic attack, this lack of control.

Edward quietly went home with his thoughts in a total state of confusion and a lot of unanswered questions. All of his questions began with "why?" Why did he give a shit about what Swan thought? Why did he react to her the way he did? Why did he want to totally control and bend her to his will? Why didn't he just wake her up and demand that she listen to him? Why did he feel so guilty about what had happened to her? True in a way it was his fault, but it was really an accident because neither one of them had been paying attention to what was behind them.

A lot more questions, but they all began with why!

Bella woke up just as a nurse opened the door to come in to check on her. The nurse was checking on Bella's vital signs and checking to see if Bella was feeling any side effects because of her concussion.

She laid quietly as she watched the nurse checking everything, even during the point of the nurse flicking a small penlight into her eyes checking on the reaction of her pupils. But before the nurse left, she made the comment about Bella's boyfriend being a handsome specimen and being so caring.

Bella looked at the woman like she had lost her mind but remained silent. And, it was only after the nurse had left that she was able to smell a fragrance in the air close to her. It was a manly smell that was a bit sweet but still woodsy at the same time. She recognized who had been in her room without the nurse saying anything.

Bella did wonder why Edward had been here. She was even curious why he didn't wake her up. After all, he's wanting to try to get her to sign the contract the way he wants and she's quite sure that he has just given up on getting his way.

A/N: A chance to see what the Cullen boys are thinking. Also, we can see the opinions of Carlisle and Esme concerning their sons' reactions to Rosalie, Alice and a discussion about Edward's overall reaction to one Isabella Swan. Edward is even concentrating about why he is reacting the way he does to Bella.

Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from you.
