I DREAM OF RAINBOWS

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

The awesome and talented dowlingnana searched out my errors and corrected them.

With that said, both father and daughter worked together to get the dishes done and the counters wiped down. Next, they each went to pack warmer wear for the trip to Alaska and Bella left her phone behind just like Charlie.

They were out the door and into the car without being aware that Bella's phone was ringing.

CHAPTER 30: EMMETT IS FAVORED

Emmett was feeling extremely frustrated; he had failed in his mission and was now having to face the fact that the one project he had set his heart on doing wasn't going to happen.

He had been in Seattle for nearly a week and still hadn't been able to get in touch with Ms. Swan, no matter how many times he had tried calling her himself. Her agent was arriving home in just a couple of hours and Emmett was hoping that Mark Strollman would be able to talk with Ms. Swan and at least, get a meeting set up for everyone. And, with having the last of his hopes based on that incident happening, Emmett still hesitates to book his flight back home.

His conversations over the last few days with his parents, his brothers and Rosalie have contained nothing new or different from what he told them the first time he called to let everyone know what is happening. Of course, Edward had more to say and all that he tossed toward Emmett did nothing to raise Emmett's morale and offered nothing nice to say about Ms. Swan.

Carlisle and Esme seemed to be disappointed that Emmett hadn't been able to accomplish his mission because they knew how badly their son wanted to make this movie, but despite that, they still continued to offer encouraging words. They even made suggestions of why Emmett might not be able to reach Ms. Swan. And, of course, Emmett had to be honest enough with himself to admit that their suggestions did sound reasonable because of what Mark Strollman had told him about Ms. Swan's last communication with him had been and about her reaction to the Cullen name. In Emmett's opinion, he had to agree with Rosalie and her cousin, Alice, that a lot of this was because of how Edward had behaved toward Ms. Swan.

Even Jasper has been being encouraging about Emmett not feeling like he was letting everyone down because Ms. Swan won't talk with him, even on the phone. But it was his Rosie, as he privately refers to her, that has given him the most encouragement to wait for Ms. Swan's agent to return to Seattle and to have time to get in touch with his client.

Both Rosalie and Alice were very disappointed in the fact that Bella was refusing to talk with Emmett. Both women, forgetting for the time being, that Bella had no knowledge that it was Emmett that was wanting to talk with her. They thought that Bella liked Emmett. She never had spoken anything against him or the fact that Rosalie was interested in getting to know the man better. Bella had been encouraging about a possible future relationship with Emmett if things headed in that direction.

In fact, Bella had even been encouraging about Alice's developing relationship with Jasper Cullen ever since they had met in Seattle. So, the current situation of Bella refusing to even answer her phone was something that puzzled both women.

Both Rosalie and Alice had tried calling Bella but received no answer on either her cell or her landline at home.

Neither one of them thought to call the Chief since they didn't think that Bella would be there; at least no more than a day or two. They knew Bella didn't like to stay in Forks for very long because the whole town, once everyone knew she was visiting her dad, was always trying to get her involved in various things around town. It was because of that that the Chief always came to Seattle to visit with his daughter.

The hardest thing for both Alice and Rosalie were trying to figure out how far in advance they should be booking their professional activities. They wanted to be free to be able to do the movie once everyone gets things ironed out with Bella.

Esme kept reminding her family about the fact that had just finished a pretty demanding book tour not long ago, and after having her run-end with Edward along with her accident that had put her in the hospital for a short period of time, probably needed some time to herself. "So how can anyone blame her for disappearing for a few days." But, as Esme would remind Emmett of those facts, he would agree with her at the time, however, after speaking with his mother or father he would then try calling Bella once more with nothing more than the same results: no answer.

Of course, the one person that was really getting on Esme's last nerve was her smartass son, Edward. His continual insistence that Ms. Swan was just playing hard to get for some nefarious reason that only she knew was about to drive her to murdering this one child that had let it be known that he didn't want to come into this world the easy way. But Edward's actions presently were a reminder of that hard labor and how stubborn he could be, especially, when that son was using unnecessary statements to discourage her other two sons.

Neither she nor Carlisle had ever seen Edward behave this way and the more he carried on about the whole matter, the more determined Esme became to find out why. All she did know for certain was that Ms. Isabella Swan had deeply affected her son and she wanted to know exactly how deeply that influence went and the reason why Edward was letting personal feelings influence his business sense. With him behaving that way it will influence everyone else around him, including the family.

So, Esme made the decision to go have a surprise visit with her son. Perhaps, without other people being around, he might openly talk to her like he used to do as a child. Maybe, that is what Edward needs to settle whatever is bothering him about Ms. Swan.

Jasper was ready to knock the hell out of his brother for carrying on as he's doing about this whole damn affair with Ms. Swan. Edward's attitude is acting as a downer not just to him, but to Emmett who is so sure of making this movie and what it could mean to his career and to the world. In fact, Emmett was so dead set on doing it that he was able to convince Jasper to do everything he could to make it happen.

Never had Jasper felt such anger against one of his family members as what he was feeling presently against Edward. It was Edward's attitude that was also affecting his wanted relationship with Alice Brandon, Ms. Isabella Swan's cousin. And, if this relationship went as far as what Jasper was envisioning it to go then Alice, Rosalie and Ms. Swan would become members of the Cullen family.

There is no way in hell that Jasper could tolerate his brother's behavior much longer. It just wasn't possible. Then as he reached this point in his thoughts, Jasper glanced up at his office door and saw the vision that commanded many of his thoughts since their first meeting in Seattle: Alice.

"Hey, darlin', what brought you to my door?" Jasper asks as he rises and moves to greet the loveliness that has appeared at his office.

"Did you forget that we have a lunch date?"

"Of course, not." He told her with a smile, although he really had forgotten since his thoughts had been so centered around Edward and his actions.

"Liar, but I forgive you. Let's go eat and you can tell me what the problem is this time as if I don't already know." Alice said with a quiet sigh. She knew without Jasper saying a word that it had to have something to do with Edward.

"Let me close down my computer and then we can go." He told her as he moved back over to his desk. Opening a drawer, he pulled out his car keys, closed the drawer and then returned to her side reaching out to clasp Alice's hand as they walked down to his car.

It didn't take long for the couple to arrive at the small Mexican restaurant where they had enjoyed lunch from time to time. The service was excellent, and the atmosphere of the place was quiet and relaxing. Both their drink and food order were placed before Alice had a chance to be able to ask, "Jazz, what's the problem with Edward this time? And, please don't bother to lie and tell me nothing because I can see how stressed out you are." She told him.

"Alice, it is nothing really. It's just that ever since Emmett wanted to start this project, Edward and I supported him. That's just something we've always done for whichever one of us had our heart set on doing a certain something. However, it seems that ever since Edward encountered your cousin he has been acting like an ass. Why, no one seems to know. And, no matter what our parents threaten to do to him, it's like he ignores it once everyone is out of sight and mind. And, the humor of the whole thing is that he is evidently gullible enough to believe that we don't know it." Jasper quietly explained to her.

"So, he's still carrying on about how bad and unfair Bella is being." Alice comments and receives a nod yes from the man sitting across from her. "And, let me guess, because Emmett is still in Seattle not being able to get a hold of Bella right now, Edward is using that as an excuse to rub the fact in making Emmett feel like a failure. This is the same procedure that Edward used with you to make you feel like shit about yourself as well a few days ago."

"I know, but, darlin', thanks to you and I had to face the truth of the whole situation. I'm glad you're my love." Jasper told her.

Alice just smiled a bit shyly and then responded back with, "I love you too, Jazz. So, very much and I have done from the first moment I saw you."

After that confession and Jasper making sure that Alice had no doubts about his love for her and then he explained that it began also in Seattle, they continued to talk quietly about that and forgot for the moment about the annoying brother by the name of Edward Anthony Cullen and the amount of time that was quickly passing. They were that lost in their confessions to each other.

Esme was able to finally track Edward down and told him that she would be meeting him at his home by two that afternoon. "And, you will be there with no excuses for not being. Is that understood?"

And, with the tone of voice that Esme spoke, Edward knew not to defy her or snark back with any comment other than, "Yes ma'am." He felt that he had a feeling of why his mother was wanting to speak with him, but Edward wasn't sure that he could explain himself to anyone including Esme since he didn't understand the entire situation that he found himself caught up in.

The last few days Bella and Charlie had spent together had been remarkable. She was totally relaxed and at peace with herself. The time spent with her father playing tourist had been full of fun and wonderment. Seeing the wonders of Alaska, the wildlife, the glaciers, the polar bears when they could be found. But to Bella the best part had been seeing the whales after boarding the ship immediately upon arrival in Vancouver Canada to start the cruise up to Alaska and back.

Both father and daughter had been back in Forks for a few hours when Bella's phone began to ring. Looking to see who was calling and not recognizing the number had Bella curious as to who might be calling. So, she answered and to her surprise it was Emmett Cullen.

She could hear the surprise in Emmett's voice as he quickly explained why he was calling her. Bella couldn't understand why he was sounding so surprised, but after listening to what he had to say she told him that she would be returning to Seattle the next day and she would meet with him at that time.

After getting off the phone, Bella noticed that she had received several calls from the same unknown number, so she knew that Emmett had been trying to reach her for some time. She also noticed a couple of calls from her cousins but decided to return those calls a little later to see why they had been trying to reach her.

Emmett was happy that he had decided to delay his return home until the next day. It gave him this last chance to try to reach Ms. Swan and it worked; she answered and had agreed to meet with him.

A/N: Bella and Charlie had had a great time on their mini vacation. However, Emmett had been left down in the dumps with disappointment. But, now that he had finally spoken with Bella and a meeting had been agreed to, how will things go from there? Also, how well things go between Edward and Esme?

Thanks for reading and looking forward to hearing from you.
