I DREAM OF RAINBOWS

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

The two detectives quickly explained what they knew and as one particular name was mentioned Bella jerked to attention. All three men watched as Bella's attitude turned from puzzlement to absolute anger.

CHAPTER 38: LOOKING FOR ANSWERS

Mark had never seen Bella in such a state of shock and anger. True he had seen her angry with Edward Cullen, and then angry on one or two other occasions, but never to this extent. But what had him puzzled was the fact that the detectives were saying that the source of information was coming from a small place with the impossible name of Forks, Washington. He wondered to himself, "Where in the hell was Forks, Washington?" He was aware that Bella came from a small Washington town, but he had forgotten the name since they never mentioned it in her write up info. However, Mark was wise enough after all of his interactions with Bella to know when to keep his mouth shut and his questions unasked.

The detectives were also puzzled by the reaction they were getting from Ms. Swan and was stupid enough to voice their opinion. But, instead of answering their question of why she was reacting as she was, she gave them a death glare, got up and marched, not walked, but marched out of the room where they all had been seated. She left the police station without waiting for Mark, hailed a cab, and went home. She was determined to get some answers of her own and that called for a trip home to Forks.

Jasper got into his car and Emmett got into his; each man was going over to their girlfriend's home to see what they could find out about this mess. It was hopeful that some kind of answers could be gotten that might shed some light as to why Edward found himself in this mess.

Of course, neither man took the time to find out if Alice or Rosalie were at home. Little did they know that the two cousins were out meeting with a realtor while trying to find some places for Bella to check out once she came back to L. A. And, neither of the two women were aware of the mess that Charlie had stirred up with some of his decisions.

With both the men and women going their separate ways, it's no wonder that nothing was going to be accomplished in the immediate future. Jasper and Emmett had a mission, but it was different than the one that Alice and Rosalie had set for themselves. The men were upset and wanting answers while the women were looking for proper living quarters for Bella and not at all aware of a serious situation that could be threatening relationships and the planned work project.

Emmett arrived at Rosalie's about the same time that Jasper arrived at Alice's only to find no one at home. Each guy reached for their phone and placed a call to their prospective love only to receive voicemail. They did leave a message and hoped like hell that it wouldn't be too long before receiving an answer to their message. And, as they waited it was like time had stood still or, more like moving in slow motion.

Neither Alice nor Rosalie took the time to check their phone to see if they had missed any calls even though they had muted their phones for any incoming calls. They didn't want the hassle of having to decline calls while trying to conduct the business at hand with the realtor. So, because of that decision the two women had no idea of the urgency that existed for the Cullen family.

Bella quickly packed an overnight bag and then tried placing a call to her dad, first at home and then to the station. The results being that he was at work, but out on a call. The frustration she felt at not being able to yell at him just seemed to intensify her anger and her need for demanding answers from him. Not delaying any longer, Bella got into her car and took off in the direction of her hometown.

During the entire drive home, she kept trying to reason why her dad would do such a thing and not discuss it with her. Surely, he knew that she would be upset about him doing anything like this without her permission. As far as Bella was concerned, she considered Edward Cullen to be nothing more than a cocky assed playboy that was used to getting his own way in anything that he set his mind to. His attitude wasn't any different than others of his type.

The more she thought about it the more she was determined to give Charlie a hard time for what he has done, but first, he was going to withdraw any and all charges he has brought against Edward Cullen.

Also, as Bella thought about it, she had a hard time understanding why her dad never mentioned what he had done when she had talked with him just a day or two ago. She had called to tell him that she had signed the contract and about how much time she would be spending in Los Angeles. Charlie had jokingly said that he would be dropping in on her from time to time when she was in L. A.

With that comment being made, she now knew that he had filed the charges immediately after she had left to meet with Emmett, if not before then. Yeah, the more she thought about it, it had to have been while they were on their cruise in Alaska. Somehow, he had managed to sneak off and place a call since neither of them had taken their cells with them.

So, figuring out the possible timeframe of when Charlie would have placed his call and had the charges filed, Bella began thinking back as to when he could have placed his call without her being present. It didn't take long before she realized that it had to have been before they had boarded the ship for their cruise. However, she had to admit that he could have placed the call from the ship when she was in her cabin since they each had their own accommodations.

Bella loved her dad and felt that she knew what he was trying to do, but it was still wrong; it was her decision to make not his.

Charlie Swan was a police officer and a loving father and sometimes the two conflicted. However, Bella felt that this time Charlie was trying to do both things at the same time; be a protective father and a police officer that couldn't let what he felt was a crime pass unreported, especially since it was what he felt was against his daughter.

Made not matter about all the reasons she could think of, Charlie still had no right to possibly take a hand into matters that concern her personal life. And, as she reached this point in her thinking, Bella realized that she was about to enter Forks' city limits.

Alice and Rosalie were worn out after running around most of the day with the realtor looking at different properties on Bella's behalf. They had managed to narrow down the choices to three they thought would fit their cousin's style to perfection. However, it was a surprise to arrive home and find Emmett sitting in his vehicle waiting for Rosalie to show up.

Alice had parked her car at Rosalie's home, and they had met with the realtor in Rosalie's vehicle. Of course, after arriving at the realtor's office they had ridden around in the realty car. But, now seeing Emmett rather impatiently demanding where they had been as everyone is exiting the two vehicles, seems to indicate something is wrong.

"Jasper is waiting for you at your place, Alice. You might want to take your wandering ass home to talk with him." He offers before either of the two women could say a word.

"What the hell is wrong with you demanding to know where Alice and I have been and then acting like a jackass telling her that Jasper is waiting for her at her place? And, then ordering her to go home to see him.

"I think that you need to take your ass on out of here and fast until you've learned how to speak to another human being properly" Rosalie cuttingly remarks to Emmett.

For just a moment, the harsh tone of Rosalie, but not so much her words, took Emmett by surprise. He hadn't really given any thought as to what Rosalie might or might not know; only assuming that she had some knowledge of the situation. And, it seems that his assumption has come back to bite him in the butt. As that thought crossed his mind, Emmett realized his mistake and knew that Jasper was about to make the same mistake as he had just made.

"Rosie, honey, forgive me, I spoke without thinking…"

"You sure the hell did." She yelled at him as she interrupted what he was about to say. "Now, like I said, get the hell out of here until you can learn to behave like a loving boyfriend instead of a shitty as dictator." And, with that said both she and Alice turned to head into Rosalie's home without a single glance back at Emmett.

After waiting enough time to see if Emmett had left, Alice said her goodbyes to Rosalie after both women had discussed what could have gotten into Emmett. "I hope that Jasper isn't going to behave that way because I'll send him packing just like you did Emmett." Alice commented just before leaving.

Emmett gave Jasper a call just to give him the heads up about the mistakes he had made with Rosalie and the ending results. "So, bro, I would advise you to just behave in a normal manner until you can get inside and have a chance to at least tell Alice about what has happened."

"Thanks, Emmett, for the information. At least I won't be putting my foot into my mouth like you did." Jasper responded back with a slight laugh, although he really wasn't in a joking mood.

It wasn't much later before Alice showed up and all Jasper did was walk over to open her car door to assist her out and then followed her into her home.

Once they were inside and comfortable, Jasper began explaining all that they had been told just that very morning. To say that Alice was shocked and horrified would be an understatement. It didn't take her long to call Rosalie to let her know the reason as to why Emmett had acted out as he had.

Rosalie placed a call to Emmett and told him to meet her over at Alice's so they might be able to determine some answers from what information each group might have that the others didn't.

After getting off the phone with Rosalie, Emmett called his parents to update them as to all that had taken place which included his mistakes and what was about to take place shortly. "I'll keep you updated once we get through finding out what Rosalie and Alice can tell us."

Then after hanging up, Emmett headed over to Alice's.

After arriving, it didn't take long for each side to exchange what information they had. This included Alice and Rosalie telling Jasper and Emmett about investigating with the hotel who might have been responsible for putting Bella in the hospital.

"I can't honestly say that the incident is related to your brother, but, at the same time we can't say that he wasn't." Rosalie told the two men.

Bella arrived at her childhood home only to find that Charlie still wasn't home. She let herself in and then called the station to see if he had returned from the call that he had been out on; the answer was no. So. Bella thanked the dispatcher for the information and took her overnight bag upstairs to her old room.

After a couple of hours Bella decided to start dinner. She wanted to stay busy as she waited for her dad to get home. She was determined to get some answers and then some actions.

It wasn't long after everything was ready to go on the table that Charles Swan pulled into the drive and saw Bella's car. He was puzzled as to why she was home, so he hurried in to find out.

As Bella heard the cruiser pull up and a few minutes later the door open with her dad calling her name, she walked to the kitchen door to greet him with, "Hello, Dad, just what the hell do you think you're doing have charges filed against Edward Cullen?"

A/N: Emmett opened his mouth and inserted his foot and Rosalie let him know that she wasn't going to stand for his attitude. Bella is ready to give Charlie an ass chewing. And, during all of this Edward is unaware that his family has been informed of what has happened to him. The question now is what actions Charlie is going to take after Bella gets through with him?
