Wee little ficlet. And I mean little. Like, super-small-fits-in-pocket-ficlet. I call it super-ficlet, it boosts my ego greatly. NCIS, Kate/Gibbs, post-Twilight but not really, specifically... big spoilers for Sub Rosa.

"Yeah. That's what they all tell me."
He remembers that day as he remembers all others with Kate around. She infuriated him; she was so headstrong and confident, she wasn't afraid to question him – or anyone else, for that matter. She had guts. Hell, she used to protect the President – Kate Todd was no pushover.
She was inquisitive, he remembers. She took everything in her stride – even DiNozzo, he laughs, dragging the sandpaper along the expanse of wood.
That day on the sub, she made him feel something he hadn't felt in a long while: whole. Her smile, how she fell into his arms, how her body pressed against his – the fruity smell of her shampoo and his arms around her as the submarine dove below the surface again.
(The look in her eyes as she hit him in despair on her way out of the room.)
