I DREAM OF RAINBOWS

Disclaimer: The Cullen's, the Swans, and most of the characters mentioned in the story that are known from Stephanie Meyer's beloved Twilight Saga, are all hers and hers alone. I neither have nor wish to pass them off as mine. I do appreciate the fact that she did bring them to life and allows us to play with them in our imaginations. The only thing I will claim is the current storyline.

"Also, before you ask anything else, I want you to know that your parents are fully aware of the circumstances and are the ones that asked me to talk with you."

With that being said, Edward simply nodded and left with Charlie to go wherever Charlie chose so he could get his questions answered.

CHAPTER 52: PROBLEM SOLVED, ONE COMING

Edward followed Charlie out to his vehicle and got in on the passenger side as soon as Charlie had unlocked the doors. He was experiencing several emotions all at the same time: confusion, distrust, and anger which are bringing forth a feeling of revenge. And, to make things worse, Edward wasn't sure who all of this should be directed; toward Bella or Charlie who it seems lied to him for some odd reason, or even against both of them.

He also had his mind made up that no matter what this man said to him, he wasn't going to accept any version other than what he himself believed to be going on against him. Edward felt that this little stop-over, no matter the fact that his parents wanted it to happen, was going to be a waste of his time. Time, he needed to get back home to get busy deciding how he was going to deal with teaching a certain woman a lesson of a lifetime. He knew that Isabella Swan had to be responsible for everything, but he had to admit that he was confused about why she didn't take the chance to throw him to the wolves when she had the chance in the courtroom?

She had almost gotten herself locked up because of the stand she had taken in the court. The judge was definitely displeased with her and so was the District Attorney.

Edward had to admit to himself, if not to anyone else, that there was a lot going on that he didn't understand, and it was damn confusing. Isabella Swan was such a contradiction that a person couldn't tell which end was up or down with her.

Charlie spotted a small 'mom and pop' café, not far from the hotel where Carlisle and Esme were staying, so this is where he decided to make a stop to be able to talk with Edward as had been requested by the others. So, Charlie pulls into a small parking lot beside the café and parks.

As both men get out, Edward looked around the area with a look of possible disgust upon his face. This definitely is not a place that he was used to frequenting with his presence. In his opinion, it appeared to be only one step above giving a person food poison or worse.

Charlie noticed how Edward looked around as he got out of the vehicle and the look of disgust that appeared on Edward's face as he looked at the small café. That was the moment that Charlie knew that Edward wasn't going to be receptive to anything that he was about to tell the young man. It was going to be a lost cause at the very least and knew that from that moment on that it was going to have to be Bella that taught Edward the necessary lessons that he needed to learn. And knowing his daughter like he did, he had all the faith in the world that she could and would do just that.

"Don't worry, Edward, we're not going to be here for long. It'll just be long enough for me to tell you the few things that your parents requested that I say to you and then I'll be returning you to their tender loving care.

"They can take you home and you can begin your depraved lifestyle all over again. Oh, maybe I should say pick up from where you left off." Charlie told Edward in a very sarcastic tone before walking off to the front of the café, leaving the young man standing there with his mouth open with no sound coming out of it.

After seeing that Charlie wasn't going to wait for him, Edward decided to follow to see what all this man had to say. He couldn't understand why his parents would want this person to speak with him or what he could have to say that his parents couldn't have told him.

Once inside the two men took a table in a corner at the back of the café and ordered coffee once the waitress came to see what the two might want to order.

Once she had left, Charlie didn't hesitate before saying his piece to Edward. "As you probably have been able to work out by now, my real name is Charles Swan. I'm the Chief of Police in Forks, Washington and Bella Swan is my daughter.

"She told me all that had transpired between the two of you since the first moment she had seen you at the top of the Space Needle in the restaurant. Believe me, when I tell you that she left nothing out; not the stalking in Pike's Place Market, the comments you had made to her agent about her, right down to both of the incidents that took place in L. A. As I said, nothing was left out. The reason I know this is because you pretty much confirmed it by what you told me when I met you in L. A.

"She told me these things to only update me as to what was happening in her life and for no other reason. However, being a police officer, I took it upon myself to turn you in for stalking in the state of Washington and even called the proper authorities in Los Angeles about the incidents that had taken place in California.

"California felt that there wasn't enough evidence to build a case against you. That wasn't the case here in Washington. We take stalking pretty damn serious here.

"After talking with my daughter some more I decided that it would be best to get your side of things but knowing that you might not be as honest with me if I presented myself to you as myself, I chose to use an alternate identity.

"Once I did hear your side of things, I realized that your actions were those of a normal male wanting to get acquainted with a woman that happened to catch his attention. Circumstances of that day and fate led to you encountering her more than once.

"The rest of it was nothing more than a spoilt asshole wanting to get his own way and threw a tantrum when it didn't happen.

"Because of your more innocent actions here in Seattle was why I decided to help you get this mess straightened out.

"Now, I'm going to end this conversation by saying that if you have any sense at all you'll take the advice given when we met in L. A., but if you don't and you hurt my little girl, I do know how to get rid of a body to where it will never be found and no one will ever know that I did anything to you."

By this time, the waitress had returned with their order of coffee, and she explained that it had taken a bit longer since she had to make a new pot of the coffee, but Charlie wasn't listening to what she had to say as he rose and tossed some money on the table to pay for the order before he turned to walk away. But as if a thought had suddenly occurred to him, Charlie did turn around to tell Edward, "Your parents are at the hotel that is only two blocks from here and they're waiting for you." And, with that he walked out of the café and out of sight.

Edward was still seated at the table, stunned that Charlie Swan had the nerve to say such things to him. It was the Swans that were in the wrong; not him.

He slowly got up, thanked the waitress and left. As he walked pass the small parking lot, Edward noticed that the car they had arrived in, was gone. So, evidently, he was expected to walk to the hotel to meet his parents. "I'll be so happy to get the hell away from these crazy people and back to my normal routine of things." He mumbled to himself as Edward begins to walk in the direction he assumed led to the hotel and his parents.

Charlie arrived at the hotel to pick Bella up and to let the Cullen's know what had happened when he had spoken with Edward. He didn't hold back anything of what he had told Edward as he wanted Carlisle and Esme to know that their son might show up with an attitude problem.

"Thanks for all that you did, Charlie. We appreciate it regardless of how Edward behaves. It's up to us now to get his head straightened out from how it has been." Carlisle told both Charlie and Bella as he shook hands with Charlie and gave Bella a hug.

Esme seconded what her husband had said and told Bella that they would see her once she returned to L. A. for the starting of the filming. Bella smiled and told Esme that she would be sure to let them know when she returned to their city.

Both, father and daughter, left the hotel to return to Bella's home before Charlie got ready to head back to Forks.

As Edward walked to the hotel his mind was busy trying to make sense of everything that had happened to him since meeting Isabella Swan. He was trying to figure out why he was so determined to have her, why she was so determined to push him away and why everyone was acting like he was being unreasonable.

The harder he thought about it all, it seemed like the answer became further away from discovery. Then suddenly it was like a light bulb went off in his head. The real question wasn't any of what he had been questioning; no, the real question was why he was so obsessed with Isabella Swan. If he could figure out the answer to that question, then he might be on the way to getting her out of his system.

Edward had been so lost in his head that he almost bypassed the hotel before realizing his near error. Upon realizing his mistake, he quickly went into the hotel and saw Carlisle and Esme patiently waiting for him.

Esme moved forward and gathered Edward into a tight hug while Carlisle waited until his wife decided to release their son. Once she stepped back Carlisle also embraced Edward in a manly hug and Edward returned it a bit more tightly than what his parents had given him.

"Well, son, it's good to see that all of this is now behind us, and we can move forward."

"You're correct, Dad. I have plans to move forward with business and I'm going to immediately cut our ties with Isabella Swan and all of her baggage."

"That you aren't going to do. Our business relationship with Bella Swan will continue as the contract was signed and agreed upon.

"Your mother and I are wanting to get you home and then we'll sit down to a long overdue discussion about how things will move forward businesswise. But, until then, we need to get to the airport as our flight is due to leave in a little over two hours. It's going to take every bit of that time to get there, turn in our car, check-in and get through security. So, let's get going." Carlisle said as he begins to usher everyone out the door.

Charlie doesn't stay too long at Bella's once they arrive back from saying goodbye to Carlisle and Esme. He goes in long enough to gather his things together and place his bag beside the door. Turning he gathers Bella in his arms for a hug and a gentle kiss on her cheek.

"Don't let him railroad you." He advises Bella and they both know who Charlie is talking about though a name isn't mentioned. "I taught you how to take care of yourself and to be independent in your thinking and actions.

"Continue to be true to yourself, Bells, no matter who might be involved. You've done that throughout this whole mess that I made and I'm proud of you. But remember also that your old man loves you more than life.

"You brightened my life and enriched it, gave it reason and a sense of always wanting to be better from the moment of your birth and I held you in my arms for the first time.

"I love you, kiddo." And with that said, Charlie steps back for one more look at Bella, gives a slight nod and then turns to pick up his bag and leaves.

"I love you too, Dad, always. Even when I'm angry with you." She tells him before he gets too far. He pauses a heartbeat in his step and then continues on his way.

Bella goes back inside and calls her cousins to let them know all that has happened in the last few days.

A/N: Edward, Carlisle and Esme are now on the way home. Bella and Charlie are repairing their relationship. So, now what does the future hold where Edward and Bella are concerned? Can the filming really begin now without further problems between Edward and Bella?
