Everything had calmed down that day.
In fact it was almost as though nothing had happened. One could almost swear that the day had been normal; if they didn't count the large gash that Prism had in her wrist, and the fact that she had to have bandages over her eyes, again.
By the time the sun set, she had already come down with a fever, though this time the Captains were able to catch it. Naotoshi, who had arrived earlier that day, had been checking her over as she looked to have a glass thermometer in her mouth. Adrien had his head resting on the bed, while Brenin, Saorise, and Liam, now in the form of animals had been resting by her
"Already, I'm starting to reconsider this safehouse if Prism goes out of her way to risk her life." Naotoshi said as he fixed his glasses a little, "What in the world was your Wizard King thinking?"
Yami replied as he had been leaning against the wall, "Hey! You try figuring out how to protect the girl while keeping her identity on the down low."
"It's bad enough you let her go into a dungeon, while running a fever-" Naotoshi said, as some of the Spirits crawled up on his lap, "-I thought Zeid entrusted her safety to you."
Jack had told him, "KEKE-YOU REALLY ASKING FOR IT DOC!"
"Jack please-" William said calmly, "-You know he means well."
Naotoshi said with a click of his tongue, "To this day I don't know what I see in you humans."
He soon took the thermometer from her mouth as he noticed the number, "Anyway, thanks to her comrade, with the poison sucked out her fever is not as nearly as high as it would be. Though since it is poison, she will need some time to recover from it. A week's rest and daily douces of medicine oughta do the trick." He soon rummaged through his bag before taking out a couple of small vials, "Lucky for you-Five centuries back I'm an expert on combating poison, especially when it comes to magic. These are my own concoctions. It'll be just the thing to help with this"
Prism couldn't help but groan as she turned in the direction of his voice, "No offense… But drinking that is gonna make me vomit, Uncle Nao."
"Then that's how you know it's working." Naotoshi replied nonchalantly. He gave a sigh as he said "Geez, this was a crazy past days, Not just Prism, Yukiko's gonna have a fit when she hears about Pluck's Injury."
Yami told him with a wave of his hand, ""Yeah yeah. Like I haven't heard her rants before."
"As for your eyes-" Naotoshi soon told her, "-You'll be able to see out of them in two days' time. You got lucky again."
Prism had sighed with relief, "Thank mana…"
Naotoshi soon added, "Do me a favor though, don't ever do that again."
"I'll-Try not to uncle Nao." She said.
"Speaking of-I'll go check on my nephew and the others-Helmet, Arai, and Asta were their names?" Naotoshi said.
"Of course-" William said, "-Thank you again for coming on short notice."
"Just keep a better eye on her-" Naotoshi said as he gathered most of his things into his bag, "-She is supposed to be our future ruler. If you don't, you're gonna hear more from me personally."
Yami only told him in a somewhat taunting manner, "Yeah Yeah, I get it doc."
"Now where is that nephew of mine?" He asked after he clicked his tongue. It hadn't been long before he got the answer to his own question as they heard loud noises coming from the bathroom that had been nearby .
They could hear Pluck shouting, "FILTH! FILTH!"
"Nevermind-I know the way." Naotoshi said before he headed down the hall, "Get some sleep Prism."
"Sure-" Prism said with a reassuring smile, "-And-for what it's worth, it was really good seeing you, Uncle Nao."
Naotoshi only looked a bit embarrassed as he replied, "Likewise."
They could hear Pluck shout again as they heard the sound of a splash, "SERIOUSLY HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN TO ME?! STUPID SILVA!"
Naotoshi shouted as he went down the hall, practically stomping "For the last time, you gotta let go of that feud! Plus you attacked her first!"
"BECAUSE SHE STARTED IT!" Pluck exclaimed.
Prism couldn't help but sink awkwardly into the bed as she attempted to rub her eyes but-
SLAP-Went Yami's hand on her own, causing her to squeak out in surprise as she now just realized he had been at her bedside.
"Don't kid." Yami told her, "You want those to get infected?"
"So-Sorry, but they kind of itch." Prism replied sheepishly.
Yami told her as he smacked her on the head, "You'll make it itch more if you rub them."
"I still find it curious-" William said as he had been looking at Prism's grimoire that was sitting on her desk, "-That incantation you used, can you really not recall what it was you did?"
Prism sat back in the pillows as she shook her head, "It's like I said, it's kind of a blur. I just remember seeing Karasu getting hurt. I remember reciting the incantation, but then, all I saw was red. The next thing I know, I find myself on the ground and my eyes were really hurting."
"How in the hell did you even get a hold of your grimoire?" Jack asked her, as Prism noticed his tone, "That Cat Girl and your Familiars told us they took your grimoires while you were unconscious!"
Prism shifted awkwardly in the bed as she twiddled her thumbs a little; she had her head down as she was looking at her own hands. "... Someone gave it to me."
The Captains looked a bit confused.
"Just… Someone?" William asked.
Prism sighed, before she started to speak up again though she had been nervous, "... There was… Someone in the cage with us. I thought it was another prisoner, but… He didn't sound like one."
"You mean you didn't see him?" Jack asked her.
"He came out of nowhere from behind me… Like he was hiding in the shadows. I tried to turn around, but he asked me not to." She said, "He somehow knew who I was. He even knew my name. I don't know how but he had gotten a hold of my grimoire, and…. He told me that incantation could help us." She soon shivered, "... He… Even knew its name… He called it the Death Incantation."
The Captain's eyes widen in shock after hearing Prism tell them the name of the incantation.
Yami took a puff as he thought to himself, as the Captains didn't seem to notice the look on his face changed "He's as sharp as ever."
"Did he tell you anything else?" William asked.
"He warned me about losing focus… That if I did… I would only hurt myself…" She said before hugging herself, some of the spirits seemed to have shifted to blue, "... But like a dummy… I didn't listen to him…"
Yami sighed as he told her, "Hey, did you listen to my pep talk earlier, you're not a dummy." He gave her a pat on the head as it made her flinch, as he told her, "You're smarter than you realize."
Prism only smiled a little before she shuddered again, "... I… Remember this feeling while I was in that state. When I saw Karasu was hurt… I just wanted to kill that man… It… didn't feel right…"
"I can understand why you would feel that way, your highness." William said, as he picked up the grimoire, "The research department have already received the information about today's events, and will do all they can to try to uncover where these incantations come from. Though for the time being-Until you learn how to control it, I think it's best if you avoid using the death incantation in particular."
"That's not gonna be hard to do." Prism said, as she could feel herself shaking, "It was… Scary… Feeling that way… I NEVER want to go through that again."
"Well Sorry to tell you, you'll have to learn, either way-KEKE!" Jack told her.
Yami added as he took a puff, "Running away from the problem won't make things better. Sooner or later you need to learn how to control that incantation. Hell maybe the others if there are any more at all, you need to be prepared to prevent things like that."
This time Prism stayed silent as she had only responded by laying on her back, and pulling the blanket over her; despite the Captains not getting a good look at her face, they could see the spirits had changed to a purple color as some of them looked scared.
"Perhaps we should discuss this more in the morning." William calmly suggested, "We'll leave you to get some rest."
Yami sighed as he said, "We did have a rough couple of days, huh? Plus she's been through alot"
"KEKE-Once this blows over it's back to business as usual!" Jack said.
Prism could hear them step out of the room as the door closed shut, followed by the click of the lock. Though if she could see right now, she would've noticed that Yami and Jack didn't look quite pleased.
Brenin who had long stirred from his sleep, couldn't help but look to the door before he turned back to Prism who was still hiding underneath the covers; Adrien could only purr as he had been nudging the bundle a little. With a deep breath, he shifted to his human form in a flash of thorns as he removed himself from the bed. He sat on his knees as he used his arms as a pillow.
"... They're right. You have to learn how to control that incantation." Brenin told her gently as his tail swayed, "... You and I both know that."
"But you felt it too…" Prism said, "... You, Saorise and Liam… I don't want to go through that… And I don't want you to suffer for it either."
"Then-" Brenin soon said, "-You can make it so we won't have to. Besides, neither of us are afraid of getting hurt. As your Familiars it's our job to protect you, by any means necessary. Even if it means we have to shoulder the pain with you."
Prism still didn't remove herself from underneath the covers, though Brenin could tell-No, he could feel it from her. He sighed before he had a smile on his face when he thought of an idea. "You know-" He said, poking the bundle a little, "I carved some new figures to add for my new collection, but I'm having trouble with the colors. How about you and me paint them together, for when your eyes recover? For old times sake?"
Finally he could see Prism move from the covers as her head popped out like that of a weasel, as she too had a small smile on her face before Adrien started to lick her, "... I think I'd like that."
SCRATCH, SCRATCH, SCRATCH
The two jumped at the sound coming from the window, as it seemed to have stirred Saorise and Liam; it seemed as though unconsciously they shifted back into their human forms as they looked to be in a daze.
"What is it?" Liam said tiredly as he got into a fighting stance despite it being sloppy, "What's going on?"
"Five more minutes!" Saorise said as she already had a bedhead.
Brein soon smelled the air a little as he recognized the scent immediately, "... Rot?"
He crawled over the bed, as Prism didn't mind that he practically stepped over her, before he opened the window. A familiar looking canine soon hopped inside as it made them all jump; Even Adrien as he let out a squawk.
"Whew-!" The little Devil-Donkey had said as he shook himself out, "—That was a dozy!"
"That voice-" Prism said.
"You again?!" Liam said shocked.
"Hey everybody!" Donkey said with a happy tone of voice before it immediately switched to monotone, "Good to see you again, I guess."
"Oh my Gosh, you're here!" Prism exclaimed, "Thank Goodness! The others told me you just disappeared, I had gotten worried about you!"
"Sorry-" Donkey said with a monotone of voice, "-I needed some time to think, after what happened."
"How did you even find us here?" Saorise asked as her ears flopped slightly.
"I stalked you!" Donkey said with a happy tone of voice before it switched back, "Is that weird?"
"OF COURSE IT'S WEIRD!" Saorise and Brenin shouted.
"What are you doing here?" Prism asked.
Donkey soon looked nervous before he went over to the bed. He managed to climb up as he soon placed his paws on Prism's hands; not minding his sharp nails she could feel poking her skin. "The thing is-" Donkey said as his eyes shifted to green, "-I started thinking about something… When I heard that song from you."
"Song…?" Prism said confused.
The Familiars were a bit confused by this until they couldn't help but recall. "You mean that roar she did?" Brenin said.
"To you that might've been roaring-" Donkey said, "-To creatures like me… It was a song…."
"Really?" Prism said, "It was a song to you?"
"It was pretty lady-" Donkey said, "-It was a beautiful one at that." He soon twiddled his thumbs, "But… The thing is…"
Prism noticed his tone of voice; if she could see right now, she would have seen that his eyes had been a neutral grey as he looked troubled. "The song…" He said, "The way you sang it… It…" She could feel his grip tighten on her hands, "... I think my Master used to sing it…"
Prism gasped slightly as she could feel her head throbbing slightly. For a moment she could see something familiar; she had been in a familiar set of clouds as she could see a creature beside her, before she heard a roar of some kind.
It hadn't been long before she seemed to have snapped back into reality as she picked up the little Devil; the little spirits shifted to a curious yellow.
"Prism?" Liam said, "Is something wrong?"
"...I…" She started to say, "... I don't know why… But… I feel like I've met you before yesterday. Why does it feel like that?"
Donkey gasped as he wagged his tail, his eyes shifted to pink, "No way! You had that feeling too?! It's the same thing for me, pretty lady!" His eyes soon changed to blue as he tilted his head, "Have you and I met before?"
"I don't know." Prism said, before she asked, "... You said, you remembered you were looking for your Master. Didn't you?"
"Yep!" Donkey said as his tone had been happy again, "I don't remember what they look like, but I'll know when I see them!"
"So-" She soon said, "-What else do you remember?"
Donkey's eyes soon shifted to a neutral grey as his look softened; his ears had slanted slightly as Prism could hear him let out a pained groan. "It's… Not clear." He said, "Everything is all fuzzy. The only thing I remember… Was waking up."
Prism seemed to have flinched at this as her eyes widened underneath the bandages. She knows she didn't know this little Devil for very long, but-She seemed to have understood. The little one before her now… He had been just like him.
As if Donkey could read her thoughts… He seemed to have understood.
"Pretty Lady… You're like me… Aren't you?" Donkey asked, "... You've… Forgotten your own story too…"
Prism could only sigh, "... Well… More like, I've forgotten the beginning of my story. All I remember was a storm, and that I was running. But everything else after and before… It's all bits and pieces… So it's hard for me to remember it all. Especially where my home is… And my magic…" She soon smiled, "... But I'm thankful because I didn't wake up alone. I had Adrien, Asta, Feo and Yuno with me… And they gave me a place where I could call home. I'll always be grateful to them for that."
"They sound like really nice people." Donkey said, "Do you think I could have a home like that?"
Prism only smiled as she hugged him, "We can be your new home. You're nothing like the Devils we read about." She soon bounced him a little as she could hear him giggle.
The Familiars couldn't help but smile as they sat on the bed; Prism could feel herself bounce a little when they did.
"You really want to keep him around?" Brenin asked, though he found it pointless too.
"Of course." Prism replied, "He didn't like it in the Pack as far as I can see. And-After all this time Aunt Elin was right about Devils. This can be a chance to put what she was researching into practice."
The Familiars seemed to have a look of agreement. "Well-" Saorise said, "-If you say so."
"Normally I'd be against the idea-" Liam said honestly. "-But I trust you with this Shortcake. And he does seem harmless."
Donkey's tail started to wag, as he had realized what this meant. "You mean I get to stay here with you pretty lady!?" He said as his eyes had been pink, "How exciting!" He couldn't help but let out a squee as it made Prism giggle.
A thought soon came over her. "You know-" She said as she started to scratch his ears, "-Since your new home is with us, I thought of a new name for you."
"A new name?!" Donkey said as his eyes changed to green as his tone changed, "Donkey is just fine!"
"It really isn't." Prism said, "Donkey is just another way of saying mule-And you're no mule."
Donkey was about to retort but looked to himself before he let out his own sigh. "... This is true."
"Hang on, you decided on a new name for him already?" Brenin said, shocked.
"Of course." She said before she hugged the little canine which made him squeak a little, "From now on, your name is going to be-Theodore, Theo for short." She soon held him at arm's length, as if she had been looking at him through the bandages, "-What do you say Theo?"
Donkey looked to Prism with awe as his eyes shifted to pink once more. His tail wagged again as he couldn't help but bounce a little.
Donkey-Or more better Theodore soon leaped out of her hands before she felt him hug her.
"I knew there was a reason why I liked you Pretty Lady!"
