Welcome back readers for the next chapter. Sorry about the writer's block. But here's the new chapter on Human Ambition! Now for the reviews.
diabloseriosa: Thanks for the support I decided to have. I wrote Vegeta as a gladiator because it seemed like a cool idea in the chapter, and Videl and Vegeta are on different levels of power so I wanted it to be shown that Videl wasn't going to be overpowered with just a couple months of training.
Drake G. Reaper: I totally understand where you're coming from. I used to be a Dragon Ball tard until I actually started reading and watching videos on DC and Marvel comics.
Wolf1741: I also understand you as well. Honestly though, it depends on what version of the Justice League we're talking about. DC characters are inconsistent, especially with so many different writers.
Remember guys these are my own versions of the characters. They still have the same powers but are on different levels from the tv show they're based upon. Honestly some heroes in DC are shown to be quite inconsistent in their levels of power. If you guys didn't read the bottom of Chapter 1. My version of Superman is on par with SSJ3 Goku. Tien is about on par with this Guy Gardner, and could probably take him down with a well placed Kikoho.
This version of Superboy is about on par with Goten. But he's only as physically strong as Goten. He's nowhere near as fast, can't fly, or well versed in martial arts.
Young Justice Cave
"...Uh, nice to meet you," Videl awkwardly said.
Artemis simply glared at Videl, while Aqualad stood by to calm the situation if the two came to blows. "Hi," Artemis said in an obviously hostile tone.
Videl, after the exchange, looked straight at Artemis, "Look I know we got off on the wrong foot, but let's start over. I'm sorry for hurting your friends, they suddenly attacked an–"
"No, they engaged because I was busy being choked by your friend," Artemis corrected.
Videl sighed, "I know that, now anyway, but we're not enemies. I'm sorry for hurting your friends. Please, we're on the same side."
Walking away, Artemis said, "For now."
Aqualad walked past Videl to further calm Artemis, but not before giving a few words, "I'm sorry about Artemis. I understand you were just defending yourself, so don't worry. She'll come around. In fact, she thinks you're a hero in her own book, at least, before the bad first impression." He then walked towards Artemis knowing where she was going to relieve stress.
Now only Videl and Robin were alone in the room.
"Robin, right? Look I'm sorry about my...friend attacking you," Videl apologized.
"It's alright, I may look young, but I've been doing this longer than any of the other protégés. What I'm more interested in is how you're able to use your ki like that?" Robin questioned.
"Wait, you know what ki is? Most of the criminals who I fight don't know what that is. They usually think I'm some kind of alien," Videl explained.
"Well, when you're trained by one of the world's greatest martial artists and detective you pick up a few things. Plus, I've read my fair share of eastern literature. Some ancient monks were able to use ki, but not to the same level you, Crane, and that other guy can," Robin informed.
'At least someone I can make friends with someone,' thought Videl.
"By the way, where did Crane and... Prince go?" Videl said, coming up with the name for Vegeta on the fly.
"Prince?" he said, brow raised.
"Yeah! The shorter one who likes to cross his arms a lot," she quickly explained.
'Please buy it, please buy it, please buy it!' Videl thought desperately.
"Ah, alright," Rob said.
'Score!' she thought.
"They probably just went to the Wat-uh, the Hall of Justice? Who knows, with how you guys have been fighting crime, maybe you'll join the Justice League?" Said Robin.
"You mean the Watchtower?" Videl asked, making Robin's eyes narrow.
She had heard of the Watchtower, but she only knew it as a rumor that villains talked about. A place where the Justice League truly resided as a team. A while ago, she and Tien easily managed to learn the Watchtower was real, as they could sense the high energies in space.
"How do you know what that is?" Robin questioned, his hand beginning to twitch.
"Woah! When you stalk some super-criminals, you hear some rumors, alright," Videl said with her hands up in a calming down motion.
Robin sighed, as his body relaxed, but he still tried to calm the room, and looked to the other side of the Cave, "Hey, how about a little spar? No powers. I can show you why I'm Batman's partner."
Videl looked at Robin and laughed as she put down her hands. Bringing her arms up again, she punched her fist into her palm with an audible clap, "Hehe, you're on, but don't expect to win easily. Even without using my ki I'm still stronger than I look."
Walking towards the middle of the mission room the floor lit up in a small circle at Robin's feet and expanded. Then with his signature mischievous cackle Robin explained to her how it worked.
Young Justice Watchtower
Walking through a hallway with the Earth just in view. Tien and Vegeta walked alongside Batman.
Coming to a room with two metal doors they slid open, revealing the Justice League. Earth's saviors many times over. Batman walked up further and sat in his seat. Vegeta and Tien stood up, not taking the seats they were given in case of conflict.
"Now that you're here, we have some questions for you," said Batman
"First, we know you have something to do with those strange energy readings over a month ago, dimensional readings," Batman bluffed. He didn't truly know, but if they didn't call his bluff, he may get more information on these two.
A moment after the question was asked Vegeta and Tien glanced at each other making a silent agreement to use their telepathy, 'Vegeta, we don't have to tell them everything, but their technology is quite advanced, I even hear they've dealt with other dimensions. If we play our cards right, we may find a way back home,' Tien said telepathically.
'Fine, but let's get this done, I need to get back to training, just watch out for dark and brooding, he bluffed just now, he may try to get us riled up so he can get information,' Vegeta informed.
"If you're asking if we had anything to do with it, then yes, but just know we didn't create those readings voluntarily," said Tien.
"Alright, are there any other vigilantes in your group?" said Batman. "It seems you left Horizon at the cave, what's wrong, trying to take us out from the inside?" he goaded, trying to get them to slip.
"Hmph, nice tactic. Trying to get a rise out of us, but we're all mature adults here. So let's stop and just get to the point, I don't want to be here all day," complained Vegeta.
"Fine, the point is several days ago we discovered a ship that landed in South America. The data inside of it told us that it came from War World. Green Lantern scanned it and found traces of ki energy inside, but we gained just enough time to scan the energy to know it's source. Now that you're here. We know who you are…Vegeta, and we know what you've done," Batman said with a glare.
"Oh? And what's that?" Vegeta said.
"We know that from the Green Lantern Corps, that some time ago the ruler of War World, Mongul was killed by a man known as Vegeta, a fighter in War World's arena that killed other fighters as well, and we know it was you, in fact that's why we brought you here, to confess," said Batman.
Green Lantern Guy Gardner cut in, his arrogance as palpable as Vegeta's once was years prior, "Yeah, and if you try to deny it we have proof of a certain killer blowing the guy's body apart," he said with a sly smile. Raising his ring he showed a video of Vegeta's last day on War World. His golden hair shining, and his aura surrounding him like a golden flame. He spoke a few words before it turned into a roar as he blasted Mongul with a flash.
"The Green Lanterns near that sector scanned the area where you killed Mongul and we compared both the ki energies from both sites, along with the energy being generated from your body right now, we know it was you," Batman said with certainty.
Just as Vegeta was even thinking about showing his face behind his mask, Tien intervened, 'Vegeta, wait. If you show your face, they'll know who you are,' he said.
'Don't worry, he already knows, so all bets are off,' Vegeta said.
Vegeta took off his mask and hood, showing his signature scowl and hair shaped like a black flame, "Hmph, you're right, it was me. I'll tell you right now so we can get this over with, we're not from around here, and where we come from, not killing the enemy may lead to your entire planet being destroyed," Vegeta warned.
"He's right," Tien said. "If we had let our villains go, they would've just gone by and destroyed our home, we've tried to show them mercy, and the last one we did that one of them came to our planet and nearly destroyed it," he added.
"That's not right, you shouldn't take another life. You're not the one to decide that, if you do then you've become just as bad as them," said Superman with a glare.
"I'm sorry Superman, but that simply isn't the case. I've heard you heroes just throw your enemies in prison, but that's not how it works for ours. The villains we face cannot be contained, they aren't simple thugs and robbers. They're forces of nature. I'm sure you've all faced villains that aren't redeemable, that won't change their ways," Tien said, making many of them at the table share glances. He was right, many of the Leaguers faced numerous foes over the years and no matter how many times they gave them another chance they always went back to their old ways.
The one Leaguer that sympathized with them the most was Wonder Woman. She had fought in many battles, and because of her training as a warrior she knew that sometimes you didn't kill because you wanted to, but because you had to. Sometimes no matter how many chances are given you must end it before the worst scenario comes forth.
Finally, she spoke, "They're right." Making the heroes look at her in surprise.
"No, they're not, Wonder Woman. They've killed, they're just as bad as the ones they fight," said Batman.
"No, this world isn't black and white, and from the sound of it neither was their own. It is true they've killed yes, but in battle sometimes that is something that needs to be done. They've saved their world from numerous threats, and yet you treat them like villains, when they should be treated as saviors for putting their lives on the line," she said with conviction.
Her words helped some of the other members to not paint the two in such a dark light.
"Thank you, Wonder Woman, but Vegeta and I came here to talk of peace between our groups. We knew that sooner or later our groups would meet. Which is why I propose that we remain separate entities. When the world is in danger, we can join forces. Please, we're on the same side," Tien said.
The Flash looked between his could-be allies and his friends, practically feeling the tension. He decided to take his own side. "He's right," he said, the other heroes looking at him, "We shouldn't be making them the enemy, not after the lives they've saved. They're heroes," looking back over to the two, specifically, Vegeta. "Well, he's more of an anti-hero, but it's definitely better than some," Flash said, nodding with some other members.
"No, resorting to killing is the one option you don't take, the one choice that leads down a path you can't walk away from. You, Vegeta, you did it with a smile on your face," Batman said with contempt.
"Oh, like you know what it's like to have to get the job done. I know your real reason why you won't kill. You're not exactly a sane human being. You see the villains you face as depictions of yourself," Vegeta said looking straight into Batman's glare
"I can tell that behind the cowl is a man who felt changed by tragedy, molded by it. The same as the others you fight. That's why you bring them to that asylum. You believe that if they can become better after the trauma they've suffered, then you can change as well, but if you kill them then you truly learn that they were a lost cause all along...that you were a lost cause all along," Vegeta said with understanding in his own way. His own tragedies throughout life allowed him to see Batman as the man who wouldn't let himself fall into that path, a path he had long since walked as a mere child. Ravaging planets as he pleased in his youth, he never cared for the ones he hurt, but it was through Kakarot that he found peace on his earth. A peace that was solidified by his wife and son.
"You're wrong," Batman denied. "I do this because it's my responsibility, a responsibility to not let others go through that kind of tragedy."
"And yet, the clown is still alive," Vegeta reminded him.
Batman made a motion to stand but was stopped by Wonder Woman.
"No, we should not fight amongst ourselves. I say as a member to call this meeting for another time. We should talk more of this later, instead of immediately judging them for their selfless actions," she said.
"Hmmm, fine, but this meeting will be discussed later among Justice League members only, we will discuss this alliance, but if we hear you've killed anyone else, we will not adhere to this alliance," Batman warned.
The League members left the table as Tien and Vegeta were escorted by Wonder Woman towards the Zeta Beam. As they walked, she apologized. "Forgive Batman, he doesn't kill because if he did, he would never stop. Everything would become too easy that way," she then looked towards Earth. "We must be the example for heroes of Earth, not everyone is willing to kill, and when they do, they change. Usually for the worst."
Tien looked over at her, and bowed in politeness, "I understand, and thank you for vouching for us," he said gratefully.
"Hmph, I hear you Amazons are great warriors. Raised to fight since you could walk. I wouldn't mind testing just how great you are against a saiyan," Vegeta said with pride.
"A saiyan?" Wonder Woman asked, her interest rising.
"My people, a race of warriors who fought across the cosmos," Vegeta said.
"If they were anything like my sisters then I'm sure they were great warriors," Wonder Woman said. Vegeta looked out of the glass separating them from space, looking at the stars he saw that none of their constellations were familiar…none like his home.
He never truly looked at this universe's stars. The upper pits of War World were the only thing he saw at night, and during his time on the ship he meditated intensely. While the light pollution of New York made it impossible to see the stars. But here, it was easily visible.
He saw a continuous number of stars, meteors, and nebulas. Almost painting a portrait in the darkness of space.
"They still are, they live on through me now," Vegeta said with his signature smirk as he walked forward into the tube.
Wonder Woman was about to walk forward as well but was halted by Tien. "Yes Crane?" she said.
"Wonder Woman–"
"Please Crane, just call me Diana," she said, lowering formalities.
"Diana, Horizon wasn't here because she's not as experienced in these situations as Vegeta and I are. She fought crime before even gaining her powers, but only your average gunman. In fact, are there any open spots on that team we fought against? It'd be best if she learned the ropes with others that are learning it too," Tien suggested.
Back at the Cave
The three walked forward and heard the grunts of a fist fight. Turning their heads a little they saw Robin and Videl in an intense spar. The two teens not noticing their arrival.
Robin threw several punches that Videl either dodged or countered until he grew frustrated enough to overextend himself. Videl saw the opportunity and grabbed his arm, throwing him over her shoulder, but Robin quickly caught himself by shooting his arm out and his palm slid against the stage to balance himself as he landed back on his feet.
His eyes narrowed and he ran at her. When he was in range, she threw a roundhouse kick in quick succession, but Robin managed to jump over it and kicked, hitting her in the chest.
"Grh," she grunted, stumbling, but quickly caught herself. Robin took the one second opportunity to sweep her legs out from under her.
Before she could fall on her back, she put both her arms out catching herself in a handstand and flipped into a crouch. Tensing her legs, she was the one to rush her opponent this time. Robin answered by his own charge.
Robin threw a jab then a right hook she blocked then dodged. Bringing her knee up she brought it full force into Robin's stomach. "Huff!" he let out as he lost his breath. Moving as fast as she could without her ki before he could regain his breath, Videl grabbed him by the cape and wrapped it around his head.
Tugging hard she pulled him backwards then kicked the back of his knee and pulling on his cape more she slammed him onto the ground, his back hitting the floor.
The small circle from the mission room appeared where he fell reading: Robin Status: Fail.
After a moment, Robin sat up from the floor and moved his cape from around his head. His eyes wide with a surprised look on his face. A hand appeared in front of his face. Looking up, he saw Videl leaning down to help him up. Grabbing her hand, she finally increased her ki allowing her to easily pull him off the ground, almost making him be lifted into the air. "Woah. Okay, I'm not gonna lie. That. Was. Awesome!" He said his arms out wide.
"Hehe, yeah, told you. Even without my ki I'm still stronger than I look, Boy Wonder," she said, giving his shoulder a soft punch.
"Yeah, and that was pretty dirty. Using my own equipment against me," Robin complimented.
Clap, clap, clap, the two heroes heard. Looking towards the Zeta Tube they saw Wonder Woman applauding them both.
"Impressive, but don't worry Robin. We spar to learn from our mistakes before they cost us their lives in battle. Horizon, that was good using your opponent's resources against them, you'd make a fine Amazon," Diana said with praise and experience.
"Robin and since you're here Horizon, I'll tell you too. The League and Crane and…"
"Prince," Videl gave out.
Vegeta raised a brow but snorted, "Hmph. I'll take it," he said, liking the sound of his new codename.
"Crane, Prince, and yourself will remain a separate entity from the League. We will take amongst the League ourselves whether that will be a good idea to form teams among us. For now, they'll patrol New York, and we may even have a spot on the team for you Horizon," she said with a smile.
"Crane suggested you join the team to gain more experience with others your age, if you accept then you'll be able to meet other members of the team and deploy on missions with them," Diana explained.
Robin looked at Videl with a crooked smirk, "Yeah, who knows maybe you can teach me about ki control?" he said nudging Videl.
"Yeah, you're already well versed in martial arts. Training you shouldn't be too hard. I just hope the Boy Wonder doesn't try to pull any tricks," she teased.
Walking towards Vegeta and Tien, the three were escorted by Wonder Woman to the outside of the cave while Robin followed. Videl gave one last wave to Wonder Woman and Robin before they flew off back to New York, disappearing in the horizon in seconds.

In a room with seven screens, were seven villains. Some not yet well known or of great notoriety. They were all different, but with one common goal. They wanted to show everyone… The Light.
All the members of The Light were equals, but one man had brought them together. The ancient… Vandal Savage.
"For the time of our banding together we have made many leaps to achieve our goal, but it seems new variables have been thrown into the equation. Some that may hinder us and others that may assist in our cause. A hindrance may be these new vigilantes. One assistance may be something we've found in the stars," Vandal's voice echoed with respect even through the screens.
Klarion laughed psychotically, before he explained his asset, or well could-be asset, "As an order of chaos I'm quite attracted to things that go boom! Hah, hah, snort. But I sensed something in another plane. A being just like me. One from another dimension like myself. Whenever I use a spell to focus on it. I see pink. I even seeped into its mind. It wasn't too hard, but it's mind was nothing if not as chaotic as my own, but it thought one thing…Buu," Klarion said with a sick smile as he wrapped his arms around himself in pleasure.
"I'll use my resources to find these vigilantes," Lex Luther said.
"No, focus on your part of working with Queen Bee to secure all Greater Bialya for The Light. These assets and hindrances will be dealt with and used accordingly," he commanded.
Vandal gave the final statement, "Remember to focus, do not worry. In time the world will see The Light."
Hey readers! Sorry for the late update. Little bit of writer's block. I hoped you enjoyed the chapter. Make sure to favor and follow the story if you want to see more of Human Ambition!
