This was written before episode 97 came out in Japan. So, yeah, some speculation.
Revenge

Oh he couldn't believe how late he was. Daddy is so going to be disappointed with him.
He opened the front door and stepped inside, "I'm home." No answer.
"Daddy?" The house was strangely quiet. No note next to the door proclaiming that his father will return later after some errand. No snores from his bedroom.
That was when he noticed the sound of wind blowing coming from his father's office. Wait, why is the door open?
He stepped into the room and stopped. His young eyes widened in shock.
"Daddy?!" His father was on the ground, face down. There was some red stuff spreading on the carpet...blood.
He ran over and shook his father's shoulders crying out "Daddy? Wake up daddy! Please wake up." No answer. "Please, daddy!" Tears rolled on his cheeks.
It then occured to him that daddy won't be waking up ever.
"DAAAAADDYYYYYYY!"
Edo Phoenix was glaring intently at the duelist before him who claimed to be his father's killer. The same man caused him pain that never went away after all these years. The one who stole the D-Hero card his father last made before his death.
The man smirked, "So, still miss daddy do you? Awww, that is too bad. He was so fun to kill. I can still remember it like it was just yesterday. I can still hear his wonderous screams...Oh, I wish I was there when you discovered his cold bloody body…"
Anger rose inside Edo. How dare he boast about it like that!
The bastard shall pay for what he did. Justice shall be served and his father will finally be able to rest in peace. And time will finally unfreeze for Edo.
He readied his duel disk and instead the standard "Duel!" battle cry, he shouted:
"My name is Edo Phoenix. You killed my father. Prepare to die!"
