CHAPTER2
She'd aged some. Well of course she had, she'd have to, what with
me being gone three decades, but in my eyes she was still beautiful.
She'd turned into something of a shrinking violet, so quiet and
obedient around her mother and that doctor woman, but every once in
a while I saw a flash of rebellion in her eyes, as if she were a mere
second away from grabbing a butcher knife off the wall and slicing
that old hag right open.
It reminded me of our glory days back at the hospital, her dancing
around with that scalpel, carving the numbers on people, pleased
as punch by the whole process. Get's me tingly just thinkin' about
it.
