AN/ This is the TARDIS' POV of the very beginning of 'Love and Monsters.' Part of my TARDIS 100 series. The BBC owns it all. I own nothing. Thanks to Bindi for betaing.
For everyone who would do what Elton did in this situation.
It was just another ordinary day. My Doctor and Rose received word of a rebel Hoix hunting rabbits around London. No one had seen him yet and it wasn't too serious, but we knew it was only a matter of time before he started hunting dogs, cats, and small children. I made an easy landing by some relatively abandoned factories and Rose and the Doctor swanned off to stop the monster.
I could sense no one else around. We were in the middle of nowhere.
I was content to take up my usual role, that is to sit and wait for the Doctor and Rose to return, when I sensed another human approaching. It was a male in his twenties. He was on foot, running desperately as if he was being chased. At first I thought he was being chased, but I could detect no other life forms around who could be chasing him. The only one who conceivably could be was the Hoix , but he was busy with Rose and the Doctor in one of the near by buildings. Then it crossed my mind that perhaps the man was the one chasing something, but that seemed just as impossible. There was nothing to chase, other than the Doctor and Rose.
I decided not to let him bother me too much. Like all the others, he would probably just ignore me and pass on by. If I was lucky, I would receive a curious look and maybe I would catch a stray thought of "what's that strange blue box doing there?"
I was surprised when the exact opposite happened.
The man stopped when he saw me. I extended my senses to him and I was very interested in what I found.
"There it is. It's real. The Doctor's ship. I can't believe it…"
The Doctor. Somehow this human knew about the Doctor. He slowly approached me, amazement still in his thoughts and on his face. He knew what I was. He didn't know my name, but I could still tell he know what I was. It was a feeling I had not felt from very many people, not since the Time War anyway. I wasn't sure what to think. Would he try to come inside me?
I saw that same thought flash through his mind. "What does it look like on the inside? Can I risk going in?" He could have opened my doors if he wanted to. They were not locked, and I saw no reason to lock them.
He was very close now. I realised that I recognised him. While this was his first encounter with me, it was not my first encounter with him. Such is the wonder of time travel.
He slowly reached out a hand towards my doors, like he wanted to relish the experience of touching me. Or perhaps he was afraid of how it would feel, but he was still driven to reach out by the near unstoppable force of curiosity. I knew that if he did touch me, he would only feel the wood of my police box disguise at first. Then he would be able to feel the power inside. He would realise he was touching something with a soul, something alive.
He didn't get the chance to experience that, however. His fingertips only just brushed against the dark blue painted wood when Rose's voice cut through the quiet.
"Doctor!"
It was like someone had thrown cold water at the man's face. He dashed off in the direction of Rose's cry, leaving me once again temporarily alone.
