A PROMISE
Surronded by the freezing water of the Atlantic Ocean, under starlights, there float Jack and Rose, the couple that would do anything to save their beloved one. They trust each other with their lives, they had been waiting for a boat to come back for some time now, and they believe that they would be saved.
"I love you Jack," Rose says.
"Don't you do that, don't you say your good-byes, not yet. Do you understand me?" Jack asks.
"I'm so cold," Rose mumbles.
"Listen Rose. . . You're going to get out of here, and you're going to go on, and you are gonna make lots of babies, and you're going to watch them grow. You'll die- an old- an old lady warm in her bed, not here, not this night, not like this. Do you understand me?" Jack asks.
"I can't feel my body," Rose complains.
"Winning that ticket Rose, is the best thing that had ever happen to me, it brought me to you, and I am thankful for that Rose, I am thankful. You must- must do me this honor, promise me that you'll survive, that's you won't give up, no matter what happen, no matter what hopeless. Promise me now, Rose, and never let go of that promise."
"I promise."
"Never let go."
"I will never let go, Jack, I will never let go," Rose assures him.
The waiting seems to last forever, meanwhile, Rose is humming "Come Josephine In My Flying Machine" which Jack sang to her at the bow of Titanic - the ship of dreams. All the memories have come back to her, how she met Jack, the drawing, the Renault, and othe wonderful time she shared with Jack. Her hands are still frozen to Jack's when she sees light, she knows the boat has come back for them, she shakes Jack's hands, saying, "Jack, Jack, Jack. . .Jack, there's a boat. Jack, Jack. . ." and when there's no respond, she knows that Jack is gone, really gone. Her heart sinks, tears start running down her cheeks, she calls out for the boat, "Come back, come back, come back," but she reliazes that all comes out were in whispers, she calls louder, but still, no one on the boat hear her, and then she starts crying again.
She can't think of a reason to live, until she remembers the promise she made not too long ago, to Jack, she knows that she can't hold on to him anymore, she lowers Jack into the ocean little by little, whispering, "I will never let go, I promise!" Then kisses her lover one last time, and let go of his hands, seeing him being suck into the deep blue sea makes her recalls the time when she was in the lifeboat, knowing that that will be the last time she would ever see Jack, and how she jumped out of the lifeboat to be with him.
She knows deep down in her heart that Jack will be watching over her and she will be with him again, in a better place, with a little more time. She goes in the water, swim over to an dead officer, takes his whistle from his mouth, and blows it with all her might. A few minutes later she is on a boat, looking over the sky, waiting. She knows she won't let Jack down, she would never let go of the promise.
A promise. . . that she will never let go. Never.
The End.
