Author notes: This is gonna sound a bit like Beastiality, but it isn't! I promise… it's the story of two dogs who become friends and find out that there is more than meets the eye. Just a little drabble I might incorporate into a longer fic later, but the muse took over my hands and started typing.

She nuzzled against his fur with her nose. He smelled nice, something familiar. Perhaps he frequented the bakery's back door in town like she did. But his scent made her comfortable. She wasn't in heat. Rather just content with the way his dark eyes looked like he was pleading to her.

He could smell it on her. Something familiar. Something that he hadn't smelled in years. He couldn't place it but his sense of smell was astounding and it was just something that he loved. He knew it was something he longed to be around. It made him feel warm and comforted.

The two dogs, one fluffy and one somewhat matted, met in a park not far from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. They played together, nuzzled their necks into each other, and often found themselves sun bathing against each other.

They would somehow locate each other and often spend the days chasing birds, squirrels, or cats. They would run through the grass for hours before collapsing onto each other panting for air. He would nuzzle and whimper at his female companion to rouse her from her sleep. She would do the same to him.

Neither one would take things further. It was a dog's nature to mate, but these two seemed to have an understanding that it wasn't going to happen like that.

She thought that perhaps he could sense that she was just an animagus not the proper canine, but there was something else nagging at her that she could not explain.

Surprisingly enough, he thought the same thing. Sure, he was known for naughty things, but to actually mate with a real dog? That was just not something he was doing. Never. No. Don't even think about it.

But those large brown eyes. They were inviting to a point. It seemed to both of the mutts that this was a friendship and it aught not to be destroyed with primal urges. It was better this way.

One day while walking down the busy streets of Hogsmeade, the girl saw someone she knew. Immediately, she transformed to her human self and hugged the dark haired boy. They had a nice conversation, but it was the boy's time to be at work. They hugged briefly again and then he left. The girl turned back to her partner in crime these few weeks and saw the hurt in his eyes.

She knelt down beside him. "I'm sorry, boy. I know this must be hard for you. I guess this would explain a lot, hug?" She tugged on his dark fur and led him to a nearby bench where he jumped up beside her and placed his head in her lap. She closed her eyes in silent relief that he wouldn't run away. "I knew you would forgive me."

She ran a hand through his hair once more never looking at him. "I'd forgive you anything, Hermione."

She opened her eyes, but dared not look down. She couldn't bring herself to submit to the terrifying reality that her companion was an animagus, too. Not just any animagus, but…

"Sirius?"
