Miles giggled merrily, splashing around the soothingly hot water of the medical bay's bathtub, the tiny fox was enjoying his time immensely. When he was stuck in that horrible, smelling and unsanitary alleyway the only real thing he used to clean himself was either rainwater or a minuscule and freezing cold stream that would often result in the toddler catching a cold.
But this? This was infinitely better than what had came before and he could safely wash his fur without having to worry about catching a nasty infection or getting beaten up by surprise. In fact he felt lighter, it may have been the layers of grime, dirt and other unrecognisable, foul smelling substances that had disappeared from his fur and was most likely staining the water a foul looking almost greenish shade of brown.
But he didn't care, he was happy and he was a now clean, great wad of bubbles clinging to his now almost shiny golden yellow and snowy white fur. However once he looked around at the small medical center's bathroom, he noticed that while he had been distracted with the prospect of being able to mess around in the bathtub, the Doctor had mysteriously vanished.
However before the small boy could even begin to process the Doctor's absence the tall, red and black garbed human came back into the room holding a towel for the small boy. His calm and almost…fatherly voice spoke to him,
"Miles, it's time to get you out of there and dry."
The little fox smiled up at the large human and stood up in the bathtub, the grimy foul water still going up to his chest as he took one of the Doctor's gloved hands and slowly as well as carefully climbed out of the bath, being extremely wary to avoid further pain in his shoulder.
His fur was utterly soaked, slightly darkened as well from how wet the toddler was and he was dripping water all over the marble white tiles that made up the bathroom floor.
Robotnik gently wrapped the towel around him and helped dry him off, his formerly soaked fur now rather bright and puffy from all of the rubbing motion, it was as if Miles had been wired to a Van De Graaff generator.
Miles felt relief wash over him as he felt his now clean and dry fur with his tiny hands, enjoying how good this new feeling was and how nice it was to no longer be covered in a variety of unspeakable substances, he closed his eyes and let out a small yawn; his playtime in the bathtub had worn the little fox's energy thin and he was now quite tired and thoroughly ready to get some sleep.
Then he gently felt something being wrapped around his shoulder…it felt like a bandage, however It didn't hurt, more like someone putting a blanket over it, then another layer was added to the wrapping and when he opened his eyes he turned to see that his shoulder and his upper arm was wrapped in a semi thin layer of bandages that were keeping his broken shoulder bone in place, it was weird…but then again if the Doctor had treated every one of his injuries in the same fashion he would almost certainly resemble a small, canine and significantly less intimidating mummy.
"There we are Miles, try not to move it around to much." Robotnik said warmly, gently ruffling the toddler's bangs with his gloved hand, sending a warm feeling cascading though the toddler's body.
"T-Thank you…" Miles said, unsure of what words should leave his mouth in that moment however he then felt the Doctor gently take his hand and escort him out of the large bathroom and surprisingly out of the medical bay as well, the bright marble white of the bay disappearing as well as the heavy smell of disinfectants and chemicals as the wide, heavy doors sealed shut with a serpentine hiss.
Robotnik looked down at the tiny fox, a warm smile on his face as he escorted him through the large halls of the Death Egg, the lighting of the space stations interior was surprisingly cosy and as for the heating…he was expecting it to be cold and metallic since of course he was more or less in a fake moon deep in outer space, but no it was room temperature and had a homey feel.
"Now Miles, since this is your new home, we need to find you a place to sleep and I've found a place that you'll be able to call your own bedroom. It's just down here and the first stop on the right, just next to my room so if you ever need anything I'll be here ok?"
Miles nodded, he was already grateful enough to have been rescued from that terrible alleyway, he was already grateful enough to be taken to this place and be able to have a warm bath and have his injuries checked on. But this? The prospect of being able to…stay here, well it was a no brainer how he responded to it.
Robotnik nodded at him, that warm and fatherly smile appearing on his face again,
"Good now I've left a couple of things in your room that I think you'll like, they'll fit well with that outstanding mind of yours my boy, so why don't we enter together?" he asked as they approached the supposed bedroom.
Miles looked up at him and gulped shyly, he had never been given anything quite as amazing as this in his entire life and he didn't exactly know what he should expect. He had never even seen the inside of a bedroom let alone have his own, so this would be a surprise for him no matter what happened.
As the automatic metal door slid open Miles gasped at what he saw, it was utterly incredible.
The room was rather large, or larger than he had expected with coated metal walls and blackish almost burgundy red flooring which covered up the metallic floor. The walls were coloured a dark brown with a small white light switch firmly embedded into the small stretch of wall that stood next to the door.
As for the furniture of the room, it's space was well used with a small bed with a dark red and black duvet and bright white pillows standing at the far end in the left corner of the room, next to it was a small plastic desk that had a small greyish pencil pot filled with an arrangement of equipment such as pencils, pens rulers, rubbers etc. And right next to the aforementioned pencil pot was a small book, rather large for Miles but it had plenty of pages within it and more than enough to satisfy the toddler's curiosity if ever it shifted to the book.
On the other end and standing in the opposite corner to the bed was a monolithic wardrobe that was tightly shut but most likely containing a wide variety of clothing for the boy to wear if ever he wanted to.
The light source of the room came from a large ceiling level light that covered the entire room and sent a large cone of bright light down upon the room.
On the floor of the bed though was a pair of shoes, they were coloured a deep red sheen scarlet in fact and they had prominent white tips at the end of the footwear as well as a large, dark grey rim that wrapped around the base. They looked like sturdy and reliable footwear but at the same time sleek and fancy, Miles could hardly wait to try them on, but they weren't the only clothes that had been provided.
On the end of the bed there was a folded pile of clothing that consisted of 4 things: Firstly there was a pair of snowy white gloves that looked warm and comfortable to wear, almost akin to safety gloves in design. Secondly there was a pair of dark black trousers that looked like a mix of casual but formal at the same time, they were rather long for Miles to wear so he supposed he would need to sort them out and shorten them. Thirdly there was a pair of dark, sturdy and protective lab goggles, they appeared to be extremely durable with the lenses of the goggles themselves being coloured a smoky black colour that would protect his eyes if ever he wanted to fiddle with machinery.
And the last piece of clothing made Miles smile even more, it was a jacket, not unlike the one that the Doctor himself was wearing. It was a scarlet red in colour and had bright gold highlights down at the zipper of the jacket, the interior of the jacket was coloured a dark grey colour and held multiple small pockets and areas that would be able to stash a variety of equipment if ever he needed it.
Miles could feel himself tear up just a tiny bit, he had never been given anything so wonderful in his life and he didn't know what to say, small gasping noises emitted from him as Robotnik then casually asked with that same grin of his.
"So…what do you think?"
Miles immediately rushed towards him and wrapped his tiny arms around his legs, happy tears streaming down his face as he cried,
"THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU SO MUCH DOCTOR!" he wailed happily, Robotnik smiled and he ruffled the kids hair, however something felt off…
"Kid, I don't want you to call me Doctor anymore."
Miles pulled away from the embrace and looked up at the man with a confused look, however Robotnik's smile didn't disappear as he placed a hand on his shoulder and said,
"Miles, you are an incredible boy and I want to be able to take you under my wing and teach you how to hone that incredible mind of yours. You're a Robotnik now Miles, just like me."
Miles's eyes teared up again as he once again leapt into the Doctor's arms and sobbed with joy and then the next few words came and they assured him that he would never be alone again.
"Don't call me Doctor Miles…call me Dad."
