Okay, I know that this isn't the best rendition of Spn and Harry Potter but I'm doing this all from what I do remember of The Deathly Hallows. So please bear with me if the chapters are out of context and if the characters are ooc.
Later That Day.
The wind and rain lashed at the four travellers as they walked up the hill. Harry rubbed at his eyes slightly, trying to get rid of the sleep that still lingered and almost bumped into Anna as she spoke on what he recognised as a mobile phone. She'd pulled it out of the bag as soon as they'd apparated away from the forest clearing, leaving no sign that they'd been encamped there, including the wards that Anna had created. Hermione had asked the woman if they could put the duffel in her own silver beaded bag, explaining that it would fit when Anna had looked at the smallest bag in question. The eldest of them all had agreed reluctantly before she grabbed the cell phone and handed the bag over.
Ron huffed slightly in longing as they stopped for a moment and looked over to where they knew the dwelling known as the Burrow was situated, causing the others to look at him.
"It just feels weird, knowing we're so close, but we can't go and visit." He told them as he looked out at the hills again. Even Hermione looked confused as she and Harry shared a look before Anna began speaking on the phone to Bobby and walked a few yards away as the trio came closer.
"What are you talking about, Ron? You were just there." Hermione told him, her face showing she missed the Weasley matriarch immensely. Harry did too but he kept silent while Ron shook his head.
"D'you really think I'm that daft, 'Mione?" Ron answered, still shaking his head, "I wasn't at the Burrow all this time."
"Then, where were you?"
"Dammit, Singer! Put the Winchesters on. You all need to know this, even Sam." Came Anna's slightly raised voice. Her posture had turned hunched as she tried to speak to the other end as they looked at the woman before she was starting to speak to whoever was on the other end of the line, Harry recognising the story he'd told her the night before, her voice stalling as she paused before she carried on, her voice gaining a warning undertone as she added, "Whatever you do, guys, don't go after this guy. Or even speak the name… Yeah, I'll tell you more when I know more and please, don't tell Castiel where I am."
The call seemed to end there as Anna said her goodbyes, asked something in a quiet voice before she hung up and re-joined the teenagers who were still watching her. She seemed to be smiling about something before she was looking at Ron and looking confused, "What?"
"The mobile phone, Anna." Hermione said, nodding to the cell phone still in Anna's hand as it went into the woman's pocket and she nodded gently.
"You really think I'd send a letter to America? It's too long, the postal service isn't that great, and God only knows how many times they could have said the name in conversation." Anna told them, "Plus, Cell service round here is good enough for a quick call."
"Alright, but if we do get to go to the Burrow, best not let Ron's dad see it, or anything else you have in that bag." Harry told her before they were looking to Ron as he snorted.
"Dad's obsessed with muggle paraphernalia. He'd be excited to have a real muggle in the house."
"Yeah, you were saying you weren't there." Hermione told him as they finally turned away from the hills and began walking, "Where were you then?"
"Bill and Fleur's new house." Ron said. A distant tower-like structure loomed closer as he added, "It's called Shell Cottage. I think it's a safe house for the Order but can't be too sure."
The trio seemed to fall into a happy silence before the tower loomed high above them on a steep hill, causing them to stop and look up at it. Dark and foreboding were the words that Anna would later use to describe it and the cloudiness of the English weather wasn't helping her impressions much as Ron looked at it and said, "I think that's the Lovegood's house. It looks like a rook."
"It looks nothing like a bird." Harry spoke up as Ron began walking up the hill and pause at the base to look back at them all.
"A rook is a castle in chess terms, Harry." Ron called out, Harry nodding slowly in acknowledgment even as Hermione and Anna shared a look, the younger woman rolling her eyes before going to join the boys when they began walking up the hill, Anna joining them soon after.
The bottom of the hill was fine as they began walking, but it steadily grew steeper the further they went. Ron, being the tallest reached the house first with a sweaty brow while Harry, Hermione and even Anna were clutching stitches in their sides. A smile was on Ron's face when they got to him and pointed out a sign while saying, "It's definitely the Lovegood's house. No one else would have a sign that says, 'The Quibbler'."
And sure enough, the sign they all looked at did have the name of what seemed to be a magazine, while another was off to the side and declaring, 'Keep off the Dirigible Plums'. Anna had to look confused as they all looked to a tree with what looked like orange radishes growing from it as Anna wandered over to take a closer look as the three argued in low voices about who was to go invisible. The two friends were adamant that Harry should stay out in the open as Hermione said, "It's you he supports, Harry. He'll want to show support to The Boy Who Lived. And Ron is meant to be at home with Spattergroit. Plus, Luna will be home as well."
"Fine, I'll stay visible. But what do we say about Anna?" Harry huffed, nodding to the oldest of them all as the others looked at the woman in question. Neither knew what to do about her as she re-joined them with one of the radishes going into a pocket.
"I know someone who grows plants. I'm a bit sceptical about the name of these." She explained, waving away the questions, "You can say that I'm an ally if he does support you, Harry."
"He's a member of the Order of the Phoenix, Anna. He'll want to know what side you're on." Hermione told her before Harry was knocking on the door and standing back. Anna huffed but nodded silently while noises came from within, a churning sound and footsteps approached before a dirty looking man with greasy hair was coming to the door, opening it a crack and looking around before setting eyes on Harry.
"Xenophilius Lovegood?" Harry spoke up, the man, Xenophilius, nodding before he was looking around warily, "May we talk? It's about the mark you were wearing at the wedding."
The man, Xenophilius, looked at Harry with a look of surprise, before he was looking back into the house and shaking his head when he looked outside again, "I'm sorry, Mr. Potter. Now isn't the best time."
"But- "
"Might I suggest coming back at a more convenient time? Like when the War is over." Xenophilius said, making to go back inside, only for the door to stop when a foot was jammed against it. The man tried again to close it, the foot unmoving before Harry said, "Please. It won't take long. I'm afraid this can't wait."
Harry looked at Lovegood before Anna was stepping forward and putting her hand on the door when Xenophilius made to close the door on the foot again, Harry taking it out with a hiss, and holding it open when he looked at her.
"Look, we came to talk to you, and I came a long way not to be turned away at a doorstep. Either let us in or we'll find a way inside for the information we need." Anna told the older wizard. Her eyes glinted dangerously as they engaged in a staring contest before Xenophilius stepped back and opening the door.
"I suggest you come in. Quickly." He told them before he was walking away from them. Harry, Hermione, and the invisible Ron looked at the American surprised as she shrugged and went inside.
"I swear, Anna gets scarier the more time we spend with her." Ron muttered out loud to Harry and Hermione, both of whom nodded before they were entering the house. The churning had continued throughout the whole exchange and was revealed to be a large press in the centre of a cluttered and messy room. Anna was looking around near the door, her eyes narrowed slightly as if she were looking for something and Xenophilius was busying himself with something that caused his back to be turned to them all as Hermione shut the door behind them. It was almost as if she were looking for something before, she looked like she was sighing and then shaking her head.
Xenophilius jumped at the sound of Harry clearing his throat and turned around to look at them before he was jumping slightly and moving forward.
"I am sorry, Mr. Potter. Why don't you and your friends take a seat?" He said, gesturing to a sofa that was piled high with copies of the magazine. The four did just that, moving the clutter to elsewhere in the room before they could sit down. Anna ended up taking a seat on the arm as Xenophilius moved back to the kitchen area then coming back with a teapot of a foul-smelling drink and a plate of biscuit-like snacks and placed them precariously on a table in front of them before he was pouring himself a cup and adding at least five sugar cubes before sitting down and stirring it.
"Please, help yourselves. The plums are freshly picked from our garden." He told them. Neither of them liked the smell of the 'tea' as three politely declined the beverage but got a biscuit each, Anna passing Ron one secretly before Xenophilius was looking at them all and then at Anna.
"I don't believe I've met you before. Have you recently joined The Order?" He began, Anna shaking her head and replying, "I'm new to Britain's magical world."
Xenophilius looked like he was considering her words before he nodded and just let it be at which point he looked to Harry, Hermione and the invisible Ron and asking, "So, why have you come to visit, Mr Potter?"
"It's about that symbol you wore at the wedding. The one Viktor Krum confronted you about?"
"Ah, yes." Xenophilius looked annoyed at the memory, "The Bulgarian Idiot did not like it at all. Even claimed that it was Grindelwald's mark and tried to curse me for wearing it… but it was never Grindelwald's mark. He stole the mark from something else."
"What do you mean?" Hermione found herself asking. Xenophilius looked at them all before he was shifting paper and clutter, answering, "Tell me. Do you know The Tale of The Three Brothers?"
"Yes."
"No." Harry and Anna looked at each other as Ron shifted slightly underneath the cloak and pinched Hermione's hand, causing her to wince and look at the empty space before Ron's head was appearing then his body as he took the cloak off and put it into the bag when Xenophilius looked up and startled slightly at the sight of four visitors instead of three.
"Sorry, Mr Lovegood. I have been here the entire time." Ron apologized to him. Xenophilius looked at the others as they all nodded, "I know the tale. Mum used to read it to us as a bedtime story."
"Then maybe you can read it to us." Xenophilius went back to searching for something, "I have a copy of Tale of Beedle The Bard around here somewhere."
"Erm… Mr Lovegood?" Hermione spoke up, putting her hand into her bag and bringing out a rather worn book. The lettering was almost faded but was still legible as Xenophilius looked up. "I have a copy myself."
"The original copy?" He looked like he wanted to reach out to touch it but held back as Hermione shrugged slightly, looking unsure before he sat back in his chair and picked up his mug.
"Perhaps you would like to read the Tale then, Miss Granger." Xenophilius asked her. Hermione nodded slightly and opened the book to a page and began to read, "There were once three brothers who were travelling along a lonely, winding road at twilight."
"Midnight, mum used to tell us." Ron spoke up, interrupting the story. Hermione, Anna and Harry all looked to him with raised eyebrows, Xenophilius looked like he wasn't paying attention, having gotten up and gone to the window. Ron mouthed sorry and motioned for Hermione to continue, "In time, the brothers reached a river too deep to wade through and too rapid to swim across. However, these brothers were learnt in the magical arts, so they simply waved their wand and made a bridge appear across the treacherous water. They were halfway across it when they found their path blocked by a hooded figure. And Death spoke to them.
He was angry that he had been cheated out of three new victims, for travellers usually drowned in the river. But Death was cunning. He pretended to congratulate the three brothers upon their magic and said that each had earned a prize for having been clever enough to evade him. So the oldest brother, who was a combative man, asked for a wand more powerful than any in existence: a wand that must always win duels for its owner, a wand worthy of a wizard who had conquered Death! So, Death crossed to an elder tree on the banks of the river, fashioned a wand from a branch that hung there, and gave it to the eldest brother.
Then the second brother, who was an arrogant man, decided that he wanted to humiliate Death still further and asked for the power to recall others from death. So, Death picked up the stone from the riverbank and gave it to the second brother and told him that the stone would have the power to bring back the dead.
And then Death turned to the third and youngest brother. The youngest brother was the humblest and the wisest of the brothers, and he did not trust Death. So, he asked for something that would enable him to go forth from that place without being followed by Death.
And Death, most unwillingly, handed over his own Cloak of Invisibility. Then Death stood aside and allowed the three brothers to continue their way and they did so, talking with wonder of the adventure they had had, and admiring Death's gifts.
In due course the brothers separated, each for his own destination. The first brother travelled for a week or more, and reached a distant village, he sought out a fellow with whom he had a quarrel. Naturally, with the Elder Wand as his weapon, he could not fail to win the duel that followed. Leaving his enemy dead upon the floor, the oldest brother proceeded to an inn, where he boasted loudly of the powerful wand, he had snatched from Death himself, and of how it made him invincible. That very night, another wizard crept upon the eldest brother who lay wine-sodden upon his bed. The thief took the wand and used it to kill the first brother. And so, Death took the first brother for his own.
Meanwhile, the second brother travelled to his own home, where he lived alone. Here, he took out the stone that had the power to recall the dead and turned it thrice (Here, Ron muttered something along the lines of, "Three times" which just made Hermione give him a glare as she read) in his hand. To his amazement and his delight, the figure of the girl he had once hoped to marry before her untimely death, appeared before him once more. Yet she was silent and cold, separated from him as though by a veil. Though she had returned to the mortal world, she did not truly belong there and suffered. Finally, the second brother's body gave up on him and he truly joined his love. And so, Death took the second brother for his own.
Although Death searched for the third brother for many years, he was never able to find him. It was only when he had obtained a great age that the youngest brother finally took off the Cloak of Invisibility and gave it to his son. And then he greeted Death as an old friend and went with him gladly. And together, as equals, they departed this life."
And with that, Hermione finished the story, softly closing the book to look at the others. Still stood at the window, Xenophilius started slightly as if just realising that Hermione had finished reading aloud and looked at them all sat there silently, thoughtfully in Anna's case, and come forward and sat down again.
"Well, there you have it," He said, pulling out a piece of parchment from under the clutter and tray, which rattled on its perch and drew a straight line for them all to see, "The Elder Wand. A wand so powerful with such a bloody history that no supernatural being dare go near the bearer. Even Hunters who know of our world have heard of this wand and fear what it can do." [1]
Here he shuddered at the mention of hunters and glanced at Anna, who just shook her head and motioned for him to continue, causing Ron, Harry and Hermione to look at her confused while Xenophilius drew a circle starting at the very bottom of the line and added, "The Resurrection Stone. Designed to bring back loved ones but they will not truly belong here as their time has already passed."
The last thing he drew was a triangle, trapping the circle and line within and said, "The Invisibility Cloak. Death's Cloak. A cloak that has been handed from father to son throughout the generations. A cloak that really, truly renders the wearer invisible and is resistant to most spells. Including Summoning Spells.
"All three are what Believers call the Deathly Hallows. With them, the bearer becomes Master of Death." Xenophilius finished, sitting back in the chair. Anna had a look of disbelief on her face while the others were thoughtful. It wasn't until she stood up that Xenophilius looked at her.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Lovegood, but I gotta use the bathroom." She told him, Xenophilius nodding slightly and pointing to a set of winding stairs that she headed towards, looking behind when she got tot hem and started going up, beckoning Harry as she turned around and caught his eye. Harry looked ahead again before he stood and went to join Anna in the stairwell, Hermione and Ron joining them soon after.
"What is it?"
"Something feels off about him." Anna muttered, "I think we need to leave. Quickly."
Her tone was serious as Harry shivered slightly, Ron frowned and Hermione nodded. As they walked away from the stairs, the press suddenly stopped its constant noise and numerous magazines were spat out onto the ground in front of it. The Quibbler's cover was facing down as Xenophilius came back into the room with another tray of the foul liquid and stopped at the sight of his guests on their feet and getting ready to leave.
"Leaving so soon but you simply must have some more tea, and maybe some Freshwater Plimpy soup? It's my wife's recipe." He asked, seeming worried as Harry nodded but Hermione bent down and plucked one of the magazines off the floor and looked at it for a moment. Her face turned murderous and her wand was immediately in her hand and pointed at Xenophilius.
"Mind telling me what this is about?" she asked, holding up the magazine so the others could see. Harry's face was on the cover, but the headline seemed wrong. Harry and Ron took one look at the cover before their wands were drawn as well and pointed at the Lovegood patriarch who just stood there, his face gaining a serious look on it that had them all tensing.
"You don't understand." He said, putting the tray on yet another cluttered table and facing them all, "They took my Luna away. I have to do this. To get her back.
"Who?"
They didn't know what hit them all as the next moment, Hermione was grabbing hold of everyone nearest to her, Harry just grabbing hold of a confused looking Anna as Xenophilius was uttering a single word…
"Voldemort."
AN: Okay… Let me clear the marker up. And correct me if I'm wrong, but this is how I see it all.
Obviously, there are witches in the Supernatural world… I'm not saying there isn't. But the most common ones made demonic deals for their power so there are few Natural witches in America., the most notable being Rowena McCleod. That's fair enough because there's bound to be less than a thousand Hunters in the world, right? With the most popular place being America. That's how I see it anyway. England obviously is a hotspot for Wizarding Folk but with very few children actually in Hogwarts (Harry's year was the smallest on record, according to canon).
So, when Xenophilius mentions Hunters and looks at Anna, it can be implied that he's sus [sorry, been playing Among Us. It's a really cool game] about her being one. Also, the hunters that know about the Elder wand, well, I'll get to that. Might be that there are rumours about it in the Hunter community. I haven't thought it through. It just went with the whole bloody history of the wand that hunters who saw the wand being used to kill and survived, would spread rumours to others in the same field.
Anyway! This has got to be the longest chapter I've written for this story so far. I liked it and I'll try to do more.
Till next time,
Hermione Jean Burton
