Hey guys, I'm back with a new kind of story. This is something I've been wanting to make for a couple years now. As a big fan of the ROTBTD idea, I've come up with my own version. The original idea was created about a decade ago and exploded in popularity. And after all this time, it's my turn to make a version! I hope everyone likes my take!

All characters and concepts belong to Disney, Pixar, Universal, and Dreamworks!

A massive thanks to my friend The Ultra Bloodedge for helping out with ideas!

The scene began on a viking longship floating through the water. It was made out of wood, making it very durable. The ship had a dragon shaped front on top of the bow. Many shields were on the sides for extra defense.

At the back of the ship sat a very young boy. He was quite scrawny and short, seeming like a midget compared to other vikings. He wore a green shirt that went over his pants. He also wore a furry jacket with furry boots. He was the viking in training, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III.

As Hiccup was sharpening his ax, a very large man sat next to him. This man had a long, orange beard that past his chest. He also wore green clothing that showed off his buff arms. He was Hiccup's father, Stoick the Vast.

"What's wrong, son?" he asked.

"I'm nervous dad," Hiccup said. "Is this really necessary? I don't even think I'm a good choice for this."

"Nonsense!" Stoick replayed. "Your viking training has gone amazingly! You make pro vikings seem like little bunnies! What can a bloody Scot do to you?!"

"They're tough people dad, you can't deny that," Hiccup said.

"Nah, all they do is throw rocks at each other and get drunk!" Stoick said in a mocking tone.

"Just wait, Hiccup will kick those stupid heatheads back to drunkville!" Snotlout laughed.

"According to my calculations, they stand no chance," Fishlegs said.

"The Scots will learn their lesson very soon!" Tuffnut added.

"Yeah, I can't wait to see this!" Ruffnut laughed.

"He stands no chance," Astrid said.

Everyone turned their attention to her, not happy with what she just said.

"It's true, they'll turn him into mash potatoes," she told everyone

Everyone gasped, upset with the young viking's words.

Hiccup signed in worry, so very nervous. Stoick had made a deal with a nearby Scottish kingdom that if his oldest child beat theirs in a duel, they'd allow the Viking's of Berk to explore their land for a week. Hiccup was positive he was going to lose, and badly. What's worse if he couldn't bring Toothless as a way to keep him safe.

"Why me?" he thought.

At the Scottish kingdom, a teenage girl walked through the castle halls. She had long, messy red hair that went past her shoulders. Her dress was dark green with small tears in it. Despite her age she was quite muscular, you could see her muscles wrapped around her dress . This young lady was the princess of DunBroch, Merida.

She walked down with a hop in her steps. She was in quite a good mood ready for her big day tomorrow. Entering the dining hall, she saw a middle aged man waiting for her. He had a matching color beard and hair to Merida. His suit was a plaid green with a Scottish skirt. He also had a wooden pegleg. He was the king of DunCrouch, Fergus.

"Oi, dad!" Merida called.

"Well if it isn't my strong and bonnie little girl!" he called with his arms out.

They gave each other a big hug, smiling in the process.

"I'm so excited for tomorrow!" Merida said.

"It'll be easy!" Fergus replied. "Those Vikings are a bunch of tubes who don't know what they're getting into!"

Both laughed before Fergus let Merida go.

"Have you practiced well?" he asked.

"Of course!" Merida answered. "I always prepare myself for events like these!"

"That's my girl!" Fergus said with a big smile.

In walked a middle aged woman in a green dress. She had long brown hair in a ponytail. This was none other than Fergus' queen, Elinor. She had her arms crossed and gave an upset expression.

"You're excited, dear?" he asked.

"Of course not!" Elinor snapped. "How dare you put our daughter through this!"

"Relax, Elinor," he told. "We made special rules and Merida agreed to this, she's not being forced to do anything."

"What's worse is that you didn't ask me anything about it!" Elinor said.

"Mom, it's okay," Merida told. "Plus, this will avoid war as well. And when we win, those Vikings need to leave us alone forever!"

"A lady should not put herself through something so inappropriate!" Elinor snapped.

"Well it's too late now, they'll arrive tomorrow," Fergus said. "Now, who's hungry?"

Merida and Fergus walked off as Elinor sighed. She knew Merida was strong, but this isn't how she should behave. A princess is not supposed to get in fights, especially this way.

The next day, the vikings arrived at the kingdom. A few of the King's men had come to help them. There were no introductions, not even a hello, both sides remained silent and got the people off the boat. The vikings and Scottish barely made much eye contact and even when they did, they weren't pleasant. Despite the tension, Hiccup tried greeting everyone. Even with that, none of the Scottish said anything back. They only gave expression of "werido" and/or "stupid".

"Oh, boy," Hiccup thought. "This is gonna be even worse than I thought."

They were guided to a couple of large sheds, one for each gender.

"Are you kidding me?!" Snotloud complained.

"Why are we sleeping in here?" Astrid asked.

"You vikings better be grateful!" one man said. "Our king's a kind person, I would have had you sleep outside! Suits you crazy hunters well!"

Before a fight happened, Hiccup jumped between both sides.

"Easy now, everyone!" he said. "We're only here for today, so let's settle down."

They glared at each other before walking away.

"Stupid Scots," Tuffnut growled.

"I wanna hit them," Ruffnut added.

From a distance, Merida looked at the vikings. She chuckled, not being impressed with what she saw.

"What a bunch of lavvy heids!" she said with a laugh.

About an hour later, everyone was at an open field outside the castle. The vikings stood on the opposite side of the Scottish. Everyone was excited for this match, wanting to finally get back at each other.

"Thank you all very much for coming!" Fergus announced. "Today is a big event! My oldest child will take on Stoick's! If they win, they are free to explore our land for a week!"

The vikings cheered as the Scottish clapped with no amusement.

"But if we win, they're out of here forever!" Fergus said full of joy.

His kingdom went wild, so excited for their victory. The Vikings remain silent, not wanting that to happen.

"Just you wait," Fishlegs said. "You stand no chance."

Stoick pushed Hiccup's back gently, telling him to go on out. The young boy walked in the field with an ax as everyone went silent. They stared at Hiccup, confused as to why such a small boy was there.

"Hello!" he called. "I'm Hiccup, son of Stoick the Vast!"

They all burst out laughing, small falling on the ground.

"What's a twig like you gonna do?!" one woman mocked.

"Go back to playing with toys, shrimp!" a man yelled insulting him.

Hiccup groaned, but looked aside to ignore them. The insults and laughter made Stoick angry, but he kept his cool. The others also wanted back at them for mocking Hiccup, but they knew now wasn't the time.

"Now everyone, give it up for my lovely daughter, Merida!" Fergus said loud enough for all to hear.

Merida walked out making her people lose their minds. They screamed her name and clapped hard. Merida waved back, loving the attention. As she got closer, Hiccup noticed there was a very big difference between them. Not only was Merida taller, but she was much stronger. Hiccup being the string bean he felt so helpless against this muscular woman. She got in touching range and smirked down at her opponent.

"So they sent you out to fight me?" she asked. "What tubes, giant ones!"

Taking a few steps back, she drew her sword. Hiccup gulped and got in a stance. Merida smirked before also getting ready for the fight. Though his side was confident in him winning, Hiccup knew this wasn't going to be good.

"Begin!" Fergus told.

Hiccup swung his ax, only for Merida to easily block it. He tried swinging again, but it was blocked. Despite that, he didn't give up and stayed strong. Merida swung her blade sideways at a fast pace. Hiccup blocked it, but the force of the attack caused the ax to fly out of his hands. Everyone gasped, amazed by what just happened. The redhead held the tip of the blade by his neck. The viking froze looking into Merida's cocky smirk.

"You can give up, ya know," she said in a mocking tone.

"N-not a chance!" he replied.

"Well then," she said. "Let's make things more fair."

He tossed her sword aside before facing him.

"I'll let you throw the first hit," Merida said, now with a kind tone.

"You'll regret that!" he said.

Hiccup threw a punch to her face, only for it to have no effect. He kicked her knee, again not even harming her. Hit after hit, he couldn't harm the princess. The vikings were confused as the Scottish giggled.

"This makes no sense!" Fishlegs said in a panicked tone. "This girl shouldn't be able to take on Hiccup!"

"Come on, do something!" Snotlout called.

Hiccup threw another punch, but Merida caught it. She then threw the viking over his head, slamming him to the ground. Ruffnut and Tuffnut both gave disgusting faces, hating this. Stoick couldn't help but facepalm in both disappointment and embarrassment.

"Ready to quit?" she asked in a mocking tone.

"No!" Hiccup said. "Not yet!"

"Okay, your funeral!" she said laughing.

"Finishing him off, princess!" one woman cheered.

"Send him back to the pigsty he belongs to!" a man said.

He got up and threw another fist, again not harming Merida. The princess backhanded Hiccup, making him spin around before falling face first on the ground. He moaned before feeling Merida grab his ankles. She began spinning him around at a fast pace. He started getting dizzy, amazed by how fast she could move.

"Get outta our land, hacket!" she yelled.

Merida then threw Hiccup across the field, him flying at high speeds. Hiccup flew into a tree, making it shake from impact. Hiccup got up, both dazed and hurt. An acorn fell on his head, simply making things worse.

All of Merida's people laughed hard again, mocking the viking. Hiccup's side was shocked, unable to compute how Hiccup lost so easily. Astrid sat there not surprised in the slightest.

"I knew this would happen," she sighed while shaking her head.

"The winner is Merida!" Fergus cheered.

They all ran over to congratulate Merida. Fergus picked her up and placed Merida on his shoulder. She waved her hand as they carried her back to the castle. As for Hiccup, he remained on the ground, dirty and beat.

"I'm dead," he thought. "So very, very dead."

After getting up and walking over to his group, everyone looked at him with either a disappointed or confused face. He smiled, but that changed nothing. Everyone was upset at him, losing to something so big.

"Well, how about we get some rest and-,"

"No!" Stoick said, interrupting his son. "We're leaving right away, pack your things everyone."

They all agreed before walking by Hiccup. Each person either looked away or glared at him. Hiccup expected no happiness for the rest of the ride home.

"Way'd it go, Hiccup!" Snotlout said.

"You really blew it," Tuffnut added. "You so-called dragon slayer."

"And to think I was getting interested in you," Ruffnut said in a disgusted tone.

"I don't understand," Fishlegs said with an upset voice. "I never misculate."

Hiccup looked aside to see Astrid glaring at him. Before he could say anything, she cut him off. With a calm, but strict tone, she asked:

"This is all your fault, you know? You knew you couldn't win in something like this, why didn't you say something?"

Hiccup remained silent knowing he couldn't answer that question.

"Too ashamed to say it?" she asked. "Good, you should be. Next time talk your dad out of it. Now only if this is bad for you, but for all of us."

And with that, the blonde viking walked off. For a moment Hiccup remained standing alone. He wanted to tell everyone why, but that would give off his secret with Toothless. He could only stay quiet and take all the insults.

As soon as they left, the people of the kingdom celebrated. They had a giant feast that lasted late into the night. People sang for Merida, so proud of their princess. Fergus even allowed her to sit on his throne for tonight.

"I can't believe that viking actually thought he stood a chance!" one man yelled with a laugh.

"Eh, it's viking nature to be stupid anyway!" another added.

Many gathered around Merida, asking her tons of questions. With each one, Merida simply bragged about herself. This had to be one of the best nights of her life. Not only did she easily win, but everyone was celebrating for her. She even protected her kingdom from vikings. It couldn't get any better than this for Merida.

"That's my little girl!" Fergus cheerked, being so proud of her.

Later, everyone was sleeping in the dining hall, some on the floor and others on tables. They were either passed out from being drunk, overfeed, yelling, or using so much energy. What a joyous occasion this was for all.

Merida woke up on the throne chair with a yawn. She got up and began walking back to her room. On the way, she came across her mother who was very unhappy to see her.

"Wasn't that amazing, mother?!" she asked. "I totally kicked that nyaff's ass!"

Elinor tapped her foot while glaring at her, arms behind her back.

"Come on, mom," she said. "This is good! Now we won't be seeing those bloody vikings ever again!"

"I don't care about that!" she said, raising her voice. "This was completely unladylike! You not only got in a fight, but you also partied like a wild animal!"

"Mom, calm down!" Merida said. "I'm fine and everyone's happy."

"I tried raising you well and this is what you give me in return!" Elinor snapped. "What's worse is that you got everyone else involved with something so childish!"

"Mom, I can't take it anymore!" she snapped. "I'm just trying to have fun, but you're treating me like a little kid! I can do what I want, father has no problems with it!"

"Fergus is too nice with you," Elinor said. "If anything, he's made you an idiot and a rough houser!"

Merida gasped in shock and pain.

"No mom!" she said. "Father loves me and is proud of me!"

"You've become even dumber and crazier than he has!" Elinor growled. "You should feel ashamed of yourself!

"Mother….," Merida said before pausing. "You don't mean that."

"Oh, you think I don't?!" she asked. "Well how about this then?!"

From behind, she brought out Merida's bow.

"Mother, wait!" she called. "Don't hurt it!"

And with that, she threw the bow out the window. Merida stood frozen as her eyes began to water up. She couldn't bring herself to form words for a good while.

"You're a disappointment of a daughter!" she snapped.

Before bursting out crying, the princess dashed over. Merida pushed Elinor out of the way, sending her to the ground. Elinor got up only to see Merida was out of sight.

"Merida!" she called. "Merida, come back here now!"

Elinor began to worry and looked over. Her voice became a panicked tone as she searched for her daughter. She looked out the window and screamed her name. She saw the bow had been broken in two from the fall.

"Oh no…." she said in a shameful tone. "What have I done?"

The princess was already on Angus running off. As she left the kingdom, Merida cried into her horse's neck. She was so sad, she couldn't open her eyes. The best day of her life happened right before the worst night of her life.

"I'm never coming back….." she said, still crying hard.

The next day, the Vikings returned to Berk. Everyone walked off the longship, still upset about what happened. There would be no celebration or joy, just disappointment. Hiccup walked behind everyone, head faced down.

"Hiccup!" Stoick called, making him more nervous.

He turned around, seeing his father who was very upset.

"Come with me," he told.

Hiccup did as he was told before they walked home. Once inside, Stoick closed the door and sat down. Hiccup took a seat nearby, very nervous for what was coming. Stoick was leaning forward with a double facepalm. Hiccup still remained silent, waiting for the conversation to start.

"What was that?" he asked after leaning up.

Hiccup tried thinking of a way to explain things, and had to think fast.

"That was a young girl not much older than you," the viking chief said. "How can you easily take down dragons but not her?"

"I don't know humans weak spots as well," Hiccup said, trying to think of something.

"Bull!" Stoick snapped. "Dragons are several times stronger and tougher than humans are! You can beat a Gronckle with your bare hands but not a teenager!"

Hiccup was getting more worried as she started running out of excuses.

"She caught me off guard," he said.

"You're one of the smartest people in this village!" Stoick said standing up. "How can a Scot catch you off guard!"

The younger viking sweat hard, trying ever so hard to get out of this one.

"Just tell me why, Hiccup!" his father said. "Why did you lose, and so easily?!"

He lowered his head again before softly saying, "I don't know….she's better than me."

"Better?! Better?! BETTER?!" he yelled. "Cut the crap! You let yourself get beat in front of all of us and now you lie to me! Do you have any idea how upset we all are?! Now only did you embarrass us, but you let us lose such a great opportunity! I don't want this to ever happen again, ever!"

Hiccup simply listened and didn't talk back, knowing he had no way out of this. Stoick exhaled, trying to calm down, even if just a little. After relaxing himself, he spoke up.

"Now please answer the question: why did you lose?" he asked.

Being the only option he had, Hiccup said nothing. All he did was keep his head low and mouth shut. Stoick sighed before he got up, feeling like crying. He walked away, unable to make eye contact with his son.

"Please don't speak with me for a while?" he asked.

And with that, the chief went to his room, not another word said. Hiccup was able to leave his chair for at least ten minutes. His mind was lost in both thought and shame. He went from the most respected person in the Berk to now the most hated.

Later that night, Hiccup went to see Toothless. Toothless saw he was crying and licked the tears off his face. Hiccup gave him a pat and soft smile. Unfortunately, that didn't help the viking much. The two flew off, Hiccup not wanting to see his people for some time, maybe not even again. A day that was supposed to be a big one for his people, he ruined.

"How will I ever be respected again…?" he asked, so ashamed of himself.

And there you have it, my first chapter, I hope everyone enjoyed it! I'll try to have a chapter up every month or two! If you have any ideas, please share them with me in a private message! Thank you for reading and have a good day!
