The dream fight between Freddy and Macgyver begins.
This mist was keeping me from tapping my own powers. I couldn't feel them. But it didn't stop me from feeling things close to me. I touched an old, broken down machine that had not gotten enough use, stealth. The gears and pipes and power twisted around me, condensing down into a mottled brown cloak that would shield me.
I was on the dexterity island. My mindscape, inner palace, whatever it was, was the place where my skills originated. It had been hidden to me but when Pennywise broke the gamer power some filter that kept me from there had broken. Each stat of mine, dexterity, strength, constitution, wisdom, intellect and luck had their own island, each of varying sizes, revolving around the horrifying core of my powers. Dexterity was the smallest. I had invested little in the skills and perks of it.
To my left was the massive and oversized island of my luck. Shaped like a turtle, it had all of the mystical shit that luck was. Luck was essentially my horror charisma stat. It got more pumped up and powerful as you got more people terrified of you, or got more people connected to you in a band against horror. It wasn't very useful to me now, since I had just scryed and fried Jason. I had the middling luck of my enhanced stats added someone who had enough luck to die.
To my right was the pretty large island of my strength. It had the blade of my duelist power along with the massive number of stats I'd pumped in there, and a bunch of potent perks. That could be more useful, and there were some solid connections between the islands from duelist, which fed off strength and dexterity.
I crept along the junkyard that was my very ignored driving skill, my cloak fluttering along my back. I heard a laughter from behind. I dived into a used blue car, hiding in the book as quietly as I could imagine. I couldn't fight him yet with any surety.
I heard the sound of his metal nails scraping across the cars. "Come out! Come out. I can smell you."
The cloak clung around me more tightly. I could sense it wanted to do more, to be more than a not very useful skill for someone who was constantly stuck in traps in the open, but it tried its best. My smell, my noise, everything was muffled.
I waited, breathing very slowly as he walked by. A little while later I heard a car fairly far away slam into another. "You in there? If you are, that car crushing is gonna cost you. I don't do this for free."
I got out the car, and slowly crept past the cars, avoiding focusing any attention on the one who must not be named. Even thinking about a horror villain could draw their attention.
I swung up onto the roof of the gun range of my gun skill, also sadly very limited in supplies. I sensed it wanted to come to my aid, but I didn't want to expose myself again by making a big building vanish. With a careful jump, I leapt onto my duelist skill. This was a clockwork model of me, ten times my size, with a variety of weapons, massive and imposing. I leapt onto the blade, and clung on as the clockwork statue of me moved me. It transported me to the strength island, offering thanks to all the times I had used it to beat the crap out of people.
This was an island of bulging muscles, tentacles of flesh, and brutal strength. A bastion of raw power. I spoke softly to the duelist skill.
"Distract him. If I can, I'll return to fight with you. I need the power of my strength."
The statue nodded, and stepped off their base, slashing their massive blade at Freddy Krueger. I heard a cry of pain, and then a grunt of metal on power as he sought to rend my skill apart.
I dashed. I absorbed every strength skill, perk and power that I could. They formed around my arm, making a massive, ice covered fist of flesh that covered my right arm. Just as I was finishing, Freddy stepped out from behind the door kicker skill. He touched it, and drew it into himself, gaining a metal shod boot. He was holding the blade of my duelist skill in my hand.
"I'm here. Wanna take a stab at me?" He asked as he lunged forward with my skill. The blow was off. I deflected it with my fist, grabbing the blade, and felt blood drip down my hand. He kicked me, with the heavy metal shoe, and I flew back. I was almost out from just that, but the kick had been off angle, and so my chest wasn't caved in.
"I can wait. Wouldn't want to tie you up." I sprinted away from him, grabbing the rope of the twisted mess of tangles that was competitive strength to tie him down.. I felt him grasp me with his power, his telekinesis, but I managed to grab onto my Pipe Slayer title on the ground, and tug myself forward, overcoming his strength.
With a fist enabled jump, I leapt to the constitution island, sailing through the clinging mist. I landed. I made a beeline to competent warrior, and drew in the enhanced stats as quickly as I could. It formed as a breastplate over my chest. I heard a slam from behind me as Freddy landed.
I could feel the cloak straining, but he was growing stronger as he fed on my skills, and it couldn't hide me any more. I needed an edge. I sprinted to fast food skin, which took the form of a McDonalds store, and ducked inside it. The smell of the fried fast food would hopefully mask my own scent. I hid in a closet as I waited for him to go past. I heard him go past, and then went to open the closet.
Freddy was right there. He was wearing a suit of my flesh, which I recognized as Gamer's Body. He slammed the door back closed, knocking me back, and shook the building.
"Come and get him. Macgyver, the perfect side to any dish."
I drew in the perk, lunging away through the melting wall as he laughed behind me. I gained a shield, strapped to my arm. As I ran, a sudden instinct struck me. I went to the side, and touched a shrine of fire and knowledge.
Fire resistance, the skill granted by Autumn, flooded into me in the form of a burning blade. I turned back and slashed Krueger's telekinetic bash apart, and lunged at him.
He fell back, a little shocked, as I went to stab him. My blade cut a deep rip through his face, searing the flesh there even more. He merged into the floor and vanished.
"You set my heart on fire, Freddy." I darted away. I wasn't sure how wise it was to use this clearly evil skill.
I couldn't let him catch me. If he got a focus on me, he could just telekinesis me to death. I needed a hard counter.
There were three really heavy metaphysical skills I had, all legendary or epic and high ranked. Mad Scientist, Plague Doctor, and Technomancy. Gamer's body was pretty strong as well, as were Gamer's mind and Gamer's Body. I needed to grab some of the heavy hitting skills before he stole them from me to win. With such heavy skills I would definitely win, even against his mind control magic.
I ran to leap to the next island, the island of wisdom. As I did, I saw Freddy leaping from building to building, absorbing them, paying special attention to Technomancy first. I needed to bypass him and get to intelligence, where two heavy hitting skills remained.
Maybe a frontal assault would work with the blade? But I was worried about sacrificing more to a clearly evil god.
My feeble stealth cloak couldn't protect me. I felt my cloak look sad at that, and droop down at not being good enough.
An idea hit me. You could gain skills with sacrifice. Could you upgrade them? I took the flaming sword in both hands. Whispers swarmed me, promising me with power and great knowledge and all, but I ignored them as I snapped the blade. I offered it up to the cloak, which hungrily ate the skill, consuming its essence.
The cloak started to burn with a bright fire, but it felt as cool as the night to me. I felt its power grow as it consumed the fire skill, becoming a different type of stealth.
As Freddy consumed each skill and perk, the buildings exploded and burnt. Their falls were loud and slow, not quick and easy. My stealth skill amplified every noise so I could hide ever more stealthily.
I leapt onto the island of intelligence. I saw Freddy there, consuming my Gamer's Mind skill. I didn't have long. I dashed to the center, looking for the most vital skill of all. I just barely reached it , drawing it in when Freddy grabbed me with a telekinetic fist and slammed me into the ground.
He was wearing a host of my skills now, fused as a power armour over him by the mad scientist skill. He had dashed ahead and taken all the good stuff. He held me down with might of will as he walked over.
"I kinda like all this video game flash. I think I'll keep it. There's a lot of power in here. I won't even need to stay in Springfield any more. Lets make the whole world a horror game. You first. Let me show you a jump scare."
He leapt towards me, claws empowered by Plague Doctor reaching forward.
I clicked the button of my Robotics Expert. His suit froze. He tried to move, and I got up and walked towards him, grabbing him by the neck.
"Freddy Freddy Freddy. This is my world." I started dragging him towards the centre. "This is my dream. My skills, my perks. I saw before, they pulled their punches. Duelist could have killed me if it wanted to. It didn't. I know you have some sort of mystical mind reading shit, so I thought as loudly as I could about going to get the heavy stuff."
Using my brutal strength, I dragged the frozen Freddy in his heavy suit of skills and perks forward.
"You fell for my trap. Maybe you could master them in time, but you could barely master a rare skill. You think you can master two legendaries, an epic, and several thousand perk points of other things? You're not that strong. You're a little fear demon who preys on children because you were never strong enough to do anything else."
"I'll be back! One day. Then I'll show you." Freddy said, a hint of fear in his voice.
"Not from this."
I pushed past the pulsating pump that pushed fluid and power into the machines of my intellect, going towards the centre.
"Back to me, skills."
The power armour covering Freddy flowed back onto me, forming over me in a protective shell. Freddy tried to make a break for it, but his telekinetic power had no impact on me.
I had tens of thousands of tons worth of power on me. He wasn't that strong. Or maybe it was a belief thing, in that my strength of belief in my weight or power stopped him? Regardless, I wasn't budging. I dragged him forward to the core.
At the centre was a black void. It was the darkest black I'd ever seen without even the slightest glimmer of light. Surrounding it was a ring of light, brighter than the sun. At irregular intervals it would belch out a flow of energy into each of my six stats, which would feed it into my various skills and perks.
Normally if I tried to look at it closely or get close I started to get a terrible pain in my body and head. With gamer's body A rank, I could stand it. I could feel it reach out, almost curious, trying to tear my body apart into strands of flesh and power to consume. My gamer's body stabilized reality around me and let me live.
Freddy was not stable. His face started to blur and he screamed as the vortex slowly tore at him.
"That's the hottest fire you'll ever see. Hotter than the sun itself. It has to be, I guess, since it's powerful enough to power me. You've got that magic shapeshifting stuff going on, so you're gonna feel it going in. I'm not sure what it is- a magical portal to dark gods, a naked singularity, the asshole of azathoth. Regardless, nothing that goes in there ever comes out."
"I'm afraid. Don't put me in there." He begged.
"Tell them Macgyver sent you." I rammed my foot up his rear, knocking him forward. His body twisted, slowing, as tendrils of flesh were torn off him. As I turned back to walk out, I could still hear his screams.
I spent a solid half hour repairing my insides. I put machines back in places, oiled and repaired broken parts, and soothed unhappy skills that didn't like the way Freddy had treated them. I still wasn't full done, when I heard a bark. Looking up, I could see Cure barking at someone approaching.
I pulled myself out and back into my body. Getting up, I wiped the rain away from my eyes. I had just collapsed in some random person's garden. Maybe someone had seen me?
Cure was barking hard at someone. They were standing in the rain, looking tall and imposing.
I raised a hand. "Hey sorry. A gas main broke a way away. I was running away. I think I have a concussion. Sorry about landing in your garden."
The person just stood there, watching us.
"I'm gonna go now." I gestured to Cure, and we left, the figure constantly watching us.
I hoped Freddy and Jason were dead. They should be massively depowered if not, regardless. They were like cockroaches so you could never be sure. I was pretty sure Freddy should be out of it for a while at least.
I'd gotten another 510 perk points to spend, and I was ready to live. I'd buffed up my stealth skill. I glanced over it.
Explosive stealth. Rare advanced apprentice skill. You are not a subtle person, and have mastered the art of sneaking around in the greatest of chaos. Your chances of hiding are greatly increased by chaotic events and fire.
The burning cloak had been so happy when I returned it to the dexterity island. They had a purpose.
Now it was time to grind. I had a load of skills I didn't get to practice much. It was time for an adventure.
Time for some rest and relaxation. I'm sure nothing will go wrong.
Dragonbornthesam. He already gets 50% of any perk points his companions get thanks to the Mark of Maturin, so I dunno if he needs this. Regardless, I think any skill that was doing a general buff for companions should be more weighty. The big thing for making them super profitable is investing in some heavy duty portals that allow regular traffic between worlds with lots of dangerous people and worlds with supernatural monsters. The sawverse has a few creepy things, and a few magical things here and there, but it's pretty magic parched for the most part. The Stephenverse is filled with powerful supernatural monsters, and anyone who kills them can get a big reward. And yeah. Freddy is not in the best of places.
Thank you 27, I did see a paucity of horror gamer stories, and am glad to write one.
Next time, an entirely relaxing and happy life free from horror villains.
