I'm Sorry for What I Said While We Were Trying to Park the Camper—Part 5

Author's Note: Thanks for following along! This is the last chapter of this little AU honeymoon for the Ressler's (we aren't going to see the arrival of baby Ressler yet). I may start another story in this universe where the baby arrives, keep an eye out for that. But for now, here is the final chapter of the RV honeymoon. Please leave a review and let me know what you think.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF

"Ma, seriously?" Ressler asked as they walked toward Kevin and Millie's house with the balloons and cars everywhere.

"We need to celebrate your marriage and little one about to arrive," Lisa Ressler said as she looked up at her son. "Your family wanted this for you."

"I love it," Liz said as she linked an arm through his.

"Think of it as a casual wedding reception and baby shower," Maurice said as he patted Ressler on his back.

"You're okay with this?" Ressler asked Liz.

"I'm pretty much okay with anything your family does," Liz kissed the side of his face. "Come on."

Ressler walked with his wife and daughter toward the backyard and as soon as they rounded the corner dozens of relatives yelled "Congratulations" and cheered.

He turned red and thanked everyone as Agnes took off to play with his cousins' kids and Liz was engulfed in a sea of women looking at her belly and talking with her about being pregnant.

"And in true Doyle tradition," Moira said as she hugged him.

"Tell me about it," Ressler said as he hugged her back.

"She looks pretty big, you sure there aren't twins?" His Aunt Patty asked.

"All the ultrasounds say otherwise Aunt Patty," Ressler said as he hugged her as well.

"Well, next time," she laughed as she pulled away from him.

A little red-headed girl jumped at him and wrapped her arms around his legs.

"Why hello Trixie," Ressler said as he reached down and lifted her up throwing her in the air while she giggled. "You have grown a whole foot since I say you six months ago. Where's your sister Bethany?."

She giggled and then ran toward a bunch of other kids who were playing with bubbles.

"She's more beautiful everyday Milly," Ressler said as he hugged his cousin's wife. "Thanks for hosting this."

"Of course!" Milly said as she leaned in and kissed the side of his face. "We're just so happy you two finally got married."

His family had been ribbing him about marrying Liz for years. He'd finally asked her 4 years ago and he assumed, everyone had decided that they weren't getting married after so many years had passed.

"Where's the man of the hour?" Ressler asked as he looked around for his cousin. The latest city counsellor.

"Barbeque duty with Benny," Milly said as she gestured with her head toward her husband who was barbequing with a toddler in his arms. "Talking politics."

"Oh man, he's going to be insufferable now," Ressler chided.

"He loves it," Milly said softly as she looked at her husband. "Wants to be governor."

"Wow," Ressler said as he looked toward his cousin as well, holding court at the barbeque. "And what do you want?"

Milly smiled at him and patted her flat stomach. "Healthy babies number 4 and 5."

"Wow, Milly," Ressler said hugging her again. "Congratulations."

"It's going to be busy," Milly smiled. "I'm not going back to the senior's home except to volunteer to run some activities."

"Makes sense," Ressler said as smiled at the glowing happy woman before him. She had really settled nicely into the Doyles. Her family had shown little interest in her life or that of her children but Aunt Patty had been the grandma-extraordinaire for all of their kids. It was nice to see her wearing less Amish-looking clothing and at Craig's father's day barbeque last year he saw her drink a spiked Ice Tea.

Ressler circulated around visiting various relatives, laughing and talking and keeping an eye on Agnes as she ran around with the other kids. It was a sunny, beautiful day and Kevin and Milly's place was a grand old house with a lot of big trees and gardens that seemed fitting for a many starting his way into politics. Tables and chairs were set up everywhere, kids were running around laughing, Hugh was playing some tunes in the background, and people were laughing and congratulating him.

His mother came up and took his arm.

"Come and eat," she said whisking him away to a table with a plate waiting at a table with Liz and Agnes and a bunch of wrapped gifts.

"People got us gifts?" Ressler asked Liz as he sat down with them.

"They have only known, even if your mom called everyone right away, for 5 days?" Liaz asked astounded.

"Anything for me?" Agnes asked as she picked up a box and shook it.

"Did you get married?" Ressler asked her with a laugh.

Agnes chuckled.

"Are you about to push a baby out of your...?" Liz started but was interrupted by Agnes' objection.

"Mom!" Agnes said.

"Fine, but if you are not one of the two people who got married or are having a baby that they created..." Liz started.

"Gross," Agnes' face twisted.

"No, not likely any gifts for you," Ressler said, trying to get Liz off any sex ed talk at this reception slash baby shower.

"It's okay, they are probably boring gifts like bibs and not the new iphone anyways," Agnes said, placing the box down.

"I'm surprised they bought us..." Liz said to Ressler.

"Well, they shouldn't have," Ressler said as he looked at the pile. "It's not like we hosted a wedding or this reception."

"Speech!" Hugh called through the microphone.

Ressler looked at him confused.

"Speech?" He asked.

His family clapped.

"I guess they wanted a wedding for us," Ressler chuckled as he stood.

Kevin ran over with a toddler and two champagne glasses that he handed to Ressler and Liz.

"Both are non-alcoholic because I knew I'd screw up which was which," he quipped before he turned and walked away with Benny.

"Wow," Ressler said as he looked at his family, the family he had spent far more time with since Kevin and Milly's wedding almost 6 years ago. The family that Liz had become a member of almost immediately. The family he didn't realize was incredibly important to him until they came back into his life. "This is amazing. Thank you everyone for pulling this together for us. Thank you mom for, obviously, getting the word out about our recent marriage and pulling together a party while on the road with us out here."

His mom waved at him and Liz and Maurice wrapped an arm around her and gave Ressler a thumbs up.

"Uh, family is...well, it's everything," Ressler continued. "They are the people who are there for you no matter what; sometimes they are genetically linked and sometimes linked to you by love."

He looked down at Agnes and smiled at her.

"Some of my best childhood memories involve family; watching my little cousins, getting into trouble with my older ones, listening to stories from my uncles, and trying not to get smacked by my aunts," Ressler continued and the crowd laughed. "I have the most amazing mom that anyone could ask for and a dad that I hope I am one day as good as."

Ressler smiled at Maurice and watched his mom tear up.

"And now I've got my own amazing family," Ressler said as he looked at Liz and she took his hand and smiled up at him. "A beautiful, fantastic wife, a talented and wonderful daughter, and another little one on the way. I'm blessed. Blessed with so much love that it's time like this that I feel so lucky. So fortunate. So..."

He started to cry and Liz quickly stood and wrapped an arm around his waist.

"Thanks for including me in this bad ass family," Liz said and everyone laughed, including Ressler who was wiping his nose. Agnes reached for his hand and took it in hers. "I didn't grow up with much family, and definitely not a close one. I thought that would be the same for Agnes as well and then we met the Doyles..."

Everyone laughed.

"I love this man like I can't even explain," Liz said as she looked at Ressler. "And I am looking forward to more great Doyle traditions over the years like being pregnant when we got married, Milly's crazy games, and this..."

Hugh started a song and a bunch of men came and grabbed Ressler and pulled him toward the only microphone, handing it to him. The James song 'Laid' started and he, red as a beet, sang with all the other men who danced, can-caned, and twirled him around as the rest of the crowd laughed, clapped and watched the spectacle.

"Mom, this song is not appropriate," Agnes said prudishly. Truthfully, there hadn't been a Doyle wedding in two years and the last time Agnes saw and heard this she was probably too young to understand. This time, she understood enough to know it was a dirty song about her parents.

"Totally inappropriate baby," Liz yelled over the singing.

Agnes looked at her confused.

"It's tradition," Liz smiled at her daughter and pulled her in for a sideways hug. "You'll get used to them."

Agnes looked at her mother like she was crazy, then looked at her father embarrassed and singing and wasn't sure she'd ever understand this.

The end.
