Hey all! It's vantagepoint77 here with another chapter of Guardians of Lylat! Hope you all are doing well and have been eagerly awaiting this update. This chapter will focus on some relationships along with some background of Reaper and some comedic relief at the end.
So with that said let's move on to the chapter!
Chapter 7: The Meeting
: Lylat Flight Academy Cafeteria:
Reaper sighed as he sat down at an empty table in the middle of the cafeteria or café, as the students called it. The café was currently filled with students because the school decided to have one shared lunch period. The school had also decided that a teacher had to be in the café to supervise the students and had randomly picked a faculty member and guess who that poor sap tuned out to be.
Reaper sighed again as he ignored the numerous stares of the students around the café watching the lone human eat his meal. Reaper glanced around the café to see if he could pick out his students. It didn't take him long to find the first group.
Three tables over to his right sat the Star Fox team along with Katt, Miyu, Bill, and Fay. The eight Lylatians ate their food and where talking amongst each other animatedly while every once in a while glancing over his way. Reaper idly wondered if Fox took to heart what Reaper had told him the previous day.
Glancing around Reaper also spotted Wolf sitting by himself over in the corner of the café. Wolf wasn't attempting to talk with anyone and simply ate his meal quietly. Reaper couldn't help but wonder if the wolf had even attempted to get to know anyone here.
Reaper also spotted the table next to Wolf was occupied by four students consisting of Stella Night, Jasmine, Isme Shea, and Ilia Cortez. The four seemed to have made quick friends and where talking to one another warmly. Reaper also couldn't help notice that Isme kept looking over to Wolf with a slight frown on her face.
Deciding to log that bit of information for later Reaper heard a commotion over to his left and after a glance saw Edmond surrounded by other students and boasting something about how many kills he had. By his estimation he had around eighteen when Reaper knew that the cocky lion had only three.
Concluding that Edmond was not worth his time he looked over to his right and saw the two non-combatants of his class Annabelle Handler and Lily Valentine. The two were sitting across from each other to Reapers left and where talking like they had been friends for years.
"Ummm, is it okay if we sit here?" a voice spoke up from behind him snapping Reaper out of his thoughts. Reaper turned around and to his surprise found the speaker to be none other than Nickolas James Bartlet who looked a little sheepish and was holding a tray of food in his hands. Behind him Reaper saw Lucas King, Bryan Sol, Fate Sapphire, and Ashley Vulama all with trays in their hands.
"… sure go ahead." Reaper answered before turning back to his own meal that consisted of a military rations packet and a breakfast bar with a diet coke to wash it all down, thank god he brought soda to Lylat with him.
Nick sat down across from Reaper with Bryan sitting on Nicks Left and Ashley on his right, Lucas sat on Reaper right and Fate on Reaper's left. Reaper glanced around and saw that the groups' choice of seating arrangements had not gone unnoticed by the rest of the café as numerous students where now whispering and looking over at their table.
The table sat in silence for a while as the group ate their food and ignoring the mutterings of the surrounding tables. After a while Fate decided to break the awkward silence.
"S-so Reaper I never got to thank you for yesterday." Fate stated as she looked over at Reaper with a slight blush at the memory.
Reaper gave her a small smile "Don't mention it. It's my job to protect my students and besides I couldn't let feathers hurt some pedestrian because he feels the need to act like an ass." This got a snicker from each of the group and Reaper could tell that all of them where now relaxed.
"So Reaper what's your pilot history like? I know you fought the Aparoids with the VDF but other than that I don't know anything." Lucas asked with a curious tone which the others quickly followed wanting to know more about their human instructor.
Reaper shrugged "Well I was mostly self-taught in regards to flying. Lived on a planet where it was the norm to fly pretty much everywhere. I was conscripted into the military when I was 15…"
"Wait you were forced into the military when you were only fifteen!?" Ashley asked in shock.
Reaper shrugged "Hey it was war and the plants government was desperate. Anyway shortly after being conscripted I earned my vacuum flying certificate and saw my first action a month after that." Reaper told the group as he paused to take a bit out of his breakfast bar while the group tried to get over the fact that their instructor had fought in a battle when he was only fifteen.
"I spent the next year fighting basically a losing battle against an army that had our plants government pretty much out-classed in every category. I tell you I saw a lot of friends die in that time." Reaper said with a far off look on his face. The group was surprised at the deep felling of lost his eyes held before he shook his head and continued his story. "Eventually my planets government surrendered and those pilots like me that survived became mercenaries getting shifted to fighting for one planet government to the next for credits. After three years of this and seeing the group of pilots from my home planet I was with dwindle till I was the only one left I decided to make my own group." Reaper explained as he finished the last of his food but continued with the story.
"So at eighteen I started to try and form a group, took a while to get a carrier ship but I was able to get an old piece of crap that barely was considered space worthy but I made it work. After that I started tracking down the members of Shadow team. I had met them during my three years as a mercenary and knew that we would do good thing together. Once we all became a unit we started to do work for different governments and quickly made a name for ourselves as an elite group of pilots. We kept this up till certain facts and event led us here to Lylat teaching at this school." Reaper finished his story as the group at his table sat in silence for a while thinking about what they just heard.
"So, how many battles have you been in all together?" Bryan asked.
Reaper looked up in thought "Ummm I think around one hundred combat missions." Reaper answered.
"Whoa…" Bryan and Nick said together while Lucas and Ashley looked impressed while Fate had her lower jaw hanging open.
"How many kills?" Ashley asked with a very serious tone for some reason.
Reaper didn't even hesitate "two hundred and twenty-six confirmed with another fifty-two probable, not including capital and transport ships." Reaper stated in a flat tone like commenting on the weather.
Suddenly the bell rang announcing the end of lunch period. Reaper stood up "Well it's been nice eating with you all. See you in class." He said as he turned around and walked away giving a wave over his shoulder.
As the rest of the café filled out to head to their next class the five shocked students sat there frozen to their seats all thinking one thought as they watched the back of their instructor.
"HOLY SHIT!"
: 10 minutes later in class:
: Wraith's POV:
"I am happy to see that most of you are still here." Reaper began as he started the class.
Wraith watched from his spot at the front right corner of the classroom as Reaper began his lecture. If Wraith where to be honest he didn't understand why Shadow Team had to be here, he understood the logic behind sending shadow team to instruct the Lylat pilots so that they could manage their own star system but he thought it would have been easier to send them a textbook or something instead of actually being here. Of course he may be a little biased as he was the teams tech expert and social skills where not his forte.
Wraith glanced around the room and noticed that the students seemed a bit more attentive today though he noted the Star Fox team minus Fox seemed to be glaring at Reaper. Deciding that he didn't give a dam he looked about the room and noticed a student directly in front of him taking notes.
The students name was Stella Night he believed, she was a blue jay that stood at 5'3 and was twenty-seven years old if he remembered her dossier correctly. She had light blue hair that went down to mid-back, if it wasn't currently draped over her left shoulder and tied in a single brad at the end. She had dark blue feathers and black legs starting at the knee like those you would see on a bird. She had amber colored eyes that matched her tan tank top that emphasized her breasts and a pair of forest green mini-shorts that showcased her long and admittedly gorgeous legs. (Her arms look the same as Falco's from the games)
Since Reaper had not said anything noteworthy yet Wraith thought this was slightly strange how she was taking notes and decided to attempt and see what she was writing down. Unfortunately Reaper had also noticed the wired behavior.
"Something you wish to share with us Ms. Night?" Reaper announced making the girl in question jump and look up to see Reaper and the rest of the class looking at her.
"N-no sir, it's just a side project of mine." Stella answered clearly embarrassed.
"Is that so, mind if I look at it?" Reaper asked but more stated as he walked up to the unfortunate blue jay's desk and took the notebook and glanced at it. After a few seconds Reaper raised an eyebrow "Wraith, come here for a minute." Reaper called over his shoulder without his gaze leaving the paper.
Wraith walked over to Stella's desk whose occupant was almost red with embarrassment and likely mortified. When he reached his destination Reaper turned to him and handed him the paper "Tell me what you make of this."
Wraith grabbed the offered paper and began to study it before after a half minute realizing what it was. "This is an algorithm for a computer virus. Looks like…one to disable or hamper information!" Wraith thought before he voiced his opinion. "It's an algorithm for a B.C.V. or Battlefield Computer Virus. By the looks of it it's made to affect a targets sensors and information gathering systems like radar and threat detection systems." Wraith announced before looking at Stella who was still a little red but looking at Wraith with surprise for knowing what it was and a little apprehension at the possibility for ridicule of her work. Wraith decided to rest her worries "This is a fairly impressive program Stella. Tell me how do you plan on making the deliverance system?" Wraith asked with a kind smile.
Before the now smiling and excited blue jay could respond however Reaper interrupted "Talk tech later you two. Ms. Night while this is a worthy endeavor to pursue, this class is about flying. However after class is over please see Wraith here to discuss further plans for this virus, it has amazing potential if it managed to impress Wraith." Reaper said as he took the paper from Wraith and handed it back to Stella who nodded.
Wraith put a hand on her shoulder "Please see me directly after class, I really wish to discuss this more with you." He stated which received a happy smile and a nod from Stella. Turning back Wraith made his way back to his original position and watched as Reaper continued on with teaching the lesson about the position and the responsibilities of a wingman.
: After School:
: Reaper's POV:
Reaper calmly drove toward the front entrance of the Crimson Fox, a famous five star restaurant that one usually needed to book a couple months in advance in order to eat at. However it appears that Fara Phoenix and her father where an exception to this as they had reserved a table only 15 hours ago to discuss the weapons deal with Reaper.
As Reaper drove down the road closer to the Crimson Fox many pedestrians on either side of the road where gazing in his direction for once not because of him being a human but more because of his transportation. Reaper had decided that to go to this nice dinner he would drive his silver McLaren P1 and suffice to say the 21st century super car was turning some heads and gaining stairs of awe from many.
Arriving at the restaurant Reaper pulled up to the entrance of a single story brick building with a bright red roof and white pillars on either side of the entrance. As he pulled up and stepped out of the car Reaper noticed a parking attendant standing by his vehicle with his mouth hanging open at the car he was supposed to park. Reaper stepped up to the badger and handed him the keys with a smirk.
"Take it around the block a few times before parking it if you wish. Just don't take it out of first gear and don't scratch it." Reaper told the attendant who gave a thankful nod before jumping into the supercar and tearing off. "Good thing I have insurance… and a backup car." Reaper thought as he entered the restaurant and walked up to the receptionist, a female bunny who looked up and seemed a little shocked and frightened to see a human approaching her.
Reaper stopped in-front of the receptionist and her desk before addressing the frightened bunny. "I have a reservation under the name Phoenix. I believe the other two have already arrived and left word that I would join them." Reaper stated.
The bunny gave a nod before replying "Y-yes t-t-this w-way s-sir." She stuttered before quickly leading reaper down a hallway and toward the dining area.
When the two entered the dining area Reaper noticed that the room had a carpeted red floor while the walls where maroon. The ceiling and pillars where made of a dark brown wood and Gold chandlers serves as lighting for wood tables where numerous guests where enjoying their meals. Now though many of them stopped as they witnessed the bunny leading the human toward a table occupied by two other occupants.
Reaper examined his dinner guests from afar as he and the receptionist moved closer to them. The male member of the pair was a male fox that Reaper assumed was Mr. Phoenix. He had reddish orang fur and white around his muzzle. He also wore an expensive looking black suit complete with tie and dress pants. He was regarding the approaching human with an appraising look and had a faint smile on his face. Reapers examination of him however was stopped in favor of looking at the female vixen at his side.
The vixen in question was none other than Fara Phoenix but the outfit she had on gave her a completely new look. Fara wore a long red dress that was held by two thin shoulder straps, and was parted at the bottom left at mid-thigh and showing off her legs. The dress showed off Fara's natural curves and also showed a small amount of cleavage at the top, enough to be noticeable but not enough for it to be viewed as inappropriate attire. The dress seemed to sparkle as it caught the light from the room when Fara moved which could also be said for the silver four inch heels on Fara's feet and the gold pendent around her neck that held a green gem. All together she looked rather stunning and Reaper couldn't help but think of her as radiant.
: Fara's POV:
Fara had spent hours on her outfit and fussing over what to wear. She had eventually asked her father who was surprised by the amount of attention and effort she was putting into the decision. When he had asked she had made up an excuse that she didn't want to misrepresent the Phoenix family in front of a potential customer however her dad had seemed skeptical about the decision. Finally with her dad's help she had picked out the red dress that had belonged to her mother as well as a pair of her nicest heels and a pendent her father had given her mother when he had first met her. Now she watched as Reaper walked toward the two following the receptionist and found that she was the one being impressed.
Reaper wore a black tux with silver metal buttons and a sliver tie over a dark grey button down shirt. He also wore black slacks and a pair of black dress shoes. Reapers hair was short and neat but Fara noticed a strand of silver that was positioned directly above his right eye. She also noticed as he reached their table and she and her dad stood up that he gave them a warm smile that made Fara blush but was well hidden by her fur. Wondering if her father had noticed she shot a glance over to him and saw him looking at her with a barely noticeable smirk.
"Oh great now he is going to tease me all the way back home once this is over!" Fara wailed in her head as her father greeted Reaper.
"Ah Mr. Reaper is it? My name is Daric Phoenix of Phoenix Arms. I must say I have heard much about you from my daughter Fara here and was pleasantly surprised when she told me you wanted to discuss an arms agreement." Mr. Phoenix introduced as he and the human shook hands.
Reaper gave the man a smile "All good I hope, and a pleasure to meet you as well Mr. Phoenix." Reaper stated before turning to Fara. Fara raised her paw to shake Reaper's hand and introduce herself but before a word could escape her mouth Reaper took her hand and raised it to his mouth before planting a kiss on her paw. "Ah Fara it is good to see you outside of class and I must say you look absolutely radiant this evening. You'll have to forgive me if this greeting is strange but it is customary for humans to greet a lady as such where I come from." Reaper explained as he released Fara's paw.
"N-no problem at all Mr. Reaper, and t-thank you for the complement." Fara stated as her face now resembled the red on the restaurant walls.
"Please just Reaper will do." Reaper stated "Now shall we sit down and begin our meal?"
"Y-yes of course Reaper." Fara answered before she quickly sat down followed by her father and Reaper who sat across from the two. The group quickly ordered with Fara's father having steak, Fara having a salad, and Reaper ordering a steak as well. After a few minutes of idle chit-chat there food arrived and they began to eat.
Mid-way through the meal Fara's father decided to get down to business. "So Reaper Fara sent me some of the details of your request and I must say I am quite surprised. Thirty craft is no small order in such a small time frame and that does not factor in that the craft are so advanced. That combined with replacement parts as well as personnel to maintain them is neigh impossible." Mr. Phoenix stated.
Reaper gave a thoughtful look before giving a nod "I don't need the maintenance people for a while and the replacement parts can wait a couple of weeks. I however do need the ships or at least twenty of them delivered to me by the end of the week. As you could likely tell from the blueprints I gave Fara the design is based heavily off of the Arwings so the frame won't need much tweaking. Also the technology that makes up the internal components will likely be analyzed quickly by you science team as I am sure that they will worship the chance to examine this tech." Reaper explained.
Mr. Phoenix calculated the numbers and variables and believed that his company could very well do it. "Very well that is manageable, what are we looking at in terms of payment?"
Reaper answered quickly "Pay is five million credits for the replacement parts upon delivery as well as one hundred thousand credits weekly salary for the maintenance crews once they arrive. The making of the craft will get your company twenty million credits per ship upon delivery to our classes hanger."
Mr. Phoenix was impressed by the payout for this contract and quickly agreed to the terms and shaking Reapers hand. "Now I was also led to believe that we are allowed all patent material for tech discovered and made in the designs and that we are being offered a contract with the VDF?" Mr. Phoenix asked.
Reaper nodded before pulling a sheet a paper out of his jacket pocket and sliding it across the table to him. "Yes the details are all stated on this contract, please read it over." Reaper stated as both Fara and her father leaned over the paper to examine it.
: Reaper's POV:
When the two Phoenixes where gazing down and examining the contract Reaper saw something over them that made a feeling of dread wash over his body. Behind the two and on the other side of a glass window of the restaurant was the stumbling human known as Nightmare.
Nightmare looked like he normally did, drunk as fuck. He was holding a large bottle of scotch that was three quarters gone and was likely not his first bottle. Nightmare happened to look in the restaurant and spotted Reaper causing the drunk human to shamble toward the window and wave drunkenly to Reaper with a goofy smile.
Reaper frowned at his squadrons number six as he leaned forward and exhaled on the glass window causing the area to fog up. Nightmare then took a finger and spell out the word "Sup" although to Reaper the word was backwards and quickly disappeared Reaper still was easily able to understand the drunken message.
"I really don't need this right now." Reaper thought as he looked at Nightmare and mouthed the word "Leave"
Nightmare saw the message and gave a drunken shrug before suddenly freezing and slowly turning his head to look at a police vehicle parked on the other side of the road and currently vacant. Reaper's eyes widened when he saw what held Nightmares attention. "Oh Fuck NO!" Reaper thought as he saw Nightmare turn back toward him with a crazed/drunken smile. Reaper quickly shook his head but was likely ignored as Nightmare waved at him drunkenly again and began making his way over to the police car.
"Well everything looks in order, I'll happily agree with the terms of the contract." Mr. Phoenix announced as he and Fara stood up and blocked Reaper's view of Nightmare.
"O-oh that is excellent to hear. If you will just sign it and mail it to Lord Bowman he will make it official. Now I do apologize but a rather…urgent event has come to my attention and I must regrettable take my leave." Reaper said as he put some money down for his bill along with a tip and stood up.
"Oh please don't let us keep you and thank you for the contract." Mr. Phoenix replied to which Reaper quickly nodded and made his way quickly out of the restaurant. Reaper ran over to where he saw Nightmare and the police car but saw nothing except a pair of skid marks on the ground.
Reaper gazed at them for a second before looking up at the direction they went only to see a few signs knocked over and other vehicles totaled so Reaper said the only word that came to mind
"Shit"
And that is Chapter 7! Hope you all enjoyed the update as I wanted to spend a little time with Wraith and the other members of shadow team like Preacher and Rook who will get some time in the upcoming updates. Also for a basic idea of what Stella looks like the person who submitted her gave me this link /view/8723585 to base it off of. For any younger members of my readers be careful and mindful of what area of the internet you will venture into by following this link as it is more… adult oriented I think, haven't really looked at the site to know.
Anyway till next time stay frosty and don't forget to review!
