Quick intro A/N: I have found that my new job is incredibly time consuming, but I'm still going to try to have an update once a month. I'm basically still earning credit hours in school but instead of a max of 18 per semester or 36 per year, you have to get at least 100 credit hours done in one year. On a more story focused note, I published the musical one shot I talked about earlier as well so that is on my profile as well. I might do more like that should I hear a song that gives me an idea but for now it is a singular chapter story. Thanks for all the reviews, I'm glad people are enjoying the story. Enjoy the chapter!
CH 14
The Silver Steakhouse
Downtown Vale
As the trio watched Roman and the thugs walk in they looked around and saw that most people in the building looked like civilians and not people with aura.
Jaune looked over towards Weiss and she gave him a slight nod indicating she understood his plan and she opened the app on her scroll to call for her rocket launcher.
Jaune meanwhile leaned over towards Willow and whispered in her ear.
"Things might get messy here so take the steak knives and try to stay back. Aura is a good thing but it doesn't make you invincible."
Willow suppressed a laugh and whispered back to him "I know dear." Before giving him a kiss on the cheek and grabbing his steak knife from his cutlery set as the sound of footsteps approached the table.
Their heads turned to see one of the nicely dressed thugs walk over with a bag and handgun. His grip on the gun wasn't too strong, something Jaune noticed before the thug shoved the gun in his face.
"Valuables in the bag now! Scrolls, wallets, and that fancy ring you got on Mr or else the ladies are going to watch you get your head blown off." The thug said in as commanding a voice as he could muster.
"Alright, alright. Don't get your tie in a bunch, hold on." Jaune said as he reached into his pocket with one of his hands before giving Weiss a quick glance and nod. After seeing her smile, he tackled the thug to the ground and knocked the pistol out of his hand in the process.
"Why you little," the thug said as he stood back up to face Jaune, only to find that Jaune had to get off him first so as soon as the thug got up, Jaune pumped aura into his legs and sent him flying into the main dining area with a kick.
Roman was in the process of taking a wealthy looking man's wallet when he saw a black blur go by him followed by a loud crash as the thug landed on a table, breaking every glass, and plate in the process.
Turning towards where the black blur went and the loud crash that followed, Roman could only sigh.
"I swear this is the dust store all over again. Why do I even hire you guys?" Roman said as he readied his cane for battle.
"Come on red, let's have some more fun." Roman said as he turned to face the area where the guy came from only to be greeted by a blond teen instead.
"You aren't red." Roman said as he looked over the teen.
"No, my name is Jaune Arc, Beacon academy student, and you're under arrest." Jaune said loudly as the other thugs began taking notice of him.
"Why is it always you damn brats?" Roman asked, the aggravation in his voice clear for all who heard, as he lifted his cane at Jaune and quickly fired hoping to catch Jaune off guard.
All the guests gasped in shock as they watched the thief's shot directly impact the Beacon Student who just stood up to him.
"And that is why you don't play hero ladies and gentlemen." Roman said with a laugh as he gestured to the smoke that was still clearing. "With aura these days, kids think themselves invincible. Spoiler alert, they aren't."
"Yeah aura is pretty handy but it doesn't cover everything." Jaune's voice came from inside the smoke before the knight in question stepped out of the smoke towards Roman, his shield holding strong on his left arm and a smirk on his face. "That's why I have a shield."
"Oh for the love of, where did you get th-" Roman said before the knight quickly closed the gap and tackled the man through the nearest window out into the street.
Meanwhile back inside the restaurant, Weiss had found a chefs knife and was making due with that as she awaited the arrival of her rocket locker and subsequently Myrtenaster.
As the thugs focused on her, all the remaining patrons in the restaurant fled to the kitchen where one of the cooks was waving them all in, so they could escape from the rear of the building.
Noticing all the patrons fleeing Weiss did her best to angle the view of the thugs away from that and towards her as she tried a cavalry style run in, attack, and run out strategy.
She managed to clip one of them who then went to grab the injury and gave her the opportunity to put the knife's steel hand to the back of his head, knocking him unconscious.
With one down and four more to go, Weiss kept using her glyphs to up her speed as she continued dodging bullets using the same hit and run tactics.
These four however learned from their comrade's defeat and resisted the urge to grab the wounds whenever they got hit.
Noticing they weren't giving her many options to neutralize them without killing them Weiss grabbed one of the heavier looking spatulas before slamming it into one of the thugs face and it worked…kind of?
As Weiss watched the thug stagger backwards clearly thrown off by the hit but not rendered unconscious. Hearing her mother's voice from behind her, Weiss turned and saw her mother running back inside, Myrtenaster in hand before she saw her mother flip the rapier in her hand and throw it hilt side towards Weiss.
"That's something I'm definitely going to be asking about later." Weiss thought to herself as she snatched the rapier out of the air and turned to face her remaining opponents.
Quickly spinning the dust cylinder she put it on fire dust and took a quick swipe at the staggered thug and his thug buddy close to him, managing to hit both in the blast, taking them both out of the fight.
"Alright now there's only two of you left." Weiss said as she got into a combat pose again facing the remaining two thugs. "Ready to surrender yet?"
A gunshot rebounding off her aura answered the question for her as she mumbled "Guess not." Before throwing herself into combat once more.
Taking a few quick swipes at thug 1 to push him back and after knocking him to the ground, she turned and thrusted her rapier towards thug 2. The move managed to clip him and send him stumbling back a little causing Weiss to smile.
Not wanting to let up she pressed the advantage and with a few quick slashes managed to take him down and let out a sigh of relief forgetting the one thug left in the chaos.
That was until she heard a gong sound from behind her and turned around to see the thug she had forgotten about in the heat of battle falling to the ground and her mother, Willow, standing behind him holding a large frying pan.
"Always remember to count your enemies Weiss." Her mother said with a smirk before tossing aside the frying pan as it landed with a crash.
"Well now that our part is handled why don't we go check on Jaune, hmm?" Willow asked as she began making her way over towards the window she watched Jaune tackle Roman through.
Weiss nodded as she followed her mother to the window and the pair peered out at the street where the red haired thief and Jaune were currently locked in a fierce battle as the mother daughter duo watched Roman bring his cane around Jaune, who brought up his shield to deflect it and knock Roman back a few feet.
After being able to create some space between Roman and himself Jaune ducked behind some nearby cover and quickly opened up his scroll to summon his own rocket locker. "I knew I should've brought more than my shield with me. If only the sword could shrink in size too." Jaune thought as he pushed the rocket launcher to my location button before quickly rolling out from behind cover as Roman popped another shot off at him from his cane.
"Dang it kid. Why is it always you Beacon kids screwing with my plans?" Roman yelled angrily as a plate crashed into the side of his head causing his aura to flare.
"Personally I find it fun." Weiss called trying to antagonize the thief as he turned his head and swatted away another plate he saw flying towards him.
With a snarl Roman turned to fire towards the window Weiss was at only to see Weiss, along with Willow, had already ducked inside.
Letting out a quick sigh, he turned towards the sounds of rapidly approaching footsteps only to see a purple light as he was thrown back by a blast of gravity dust.
"Alright twerp, if you want to play rough don't blame me when you get hurt." Roman said angrily as his aura flared around him.
Bringing his cane up, Roman started popping off shots at Jaune as he walked towards him before quickly closing the final gap and bringing his cane around towards the left side of Jaune's head.
Seeing the incoming cane attack, Jaune shifted his shield slightly to block it but not enough for Roman to exploit. Or so the knight thought as Roman quickly brought up his left leg and got the blond knight's right side with an aura infused kick, sending him falling back.
After Jaune raised his head up he saw the end of Roman's cane pointed straight at his face. "I hate to break it to you Mr. Hero, but this is NOT a fairytale. The hero gets no happy ending. See you in the afterlife, kid." Roman said as the end of his cane popped open.
And just as Roman was about to pull the trigger, a wave of ice came flying at him forcing him to jump back from the blond beacon student.
"Oh great and now there's two of them. One with a sword and one with a shield. Hey don't you kids know how expensive dust has gotten that you shouldn't be using it on little ol me?" Roman asked sarcastically, to which the spinning of a dust chamber and the charging of Jaune's shield was all that he heard in response.
"Yeah I didn't think so." Roman said as he let out a sigh and turned to face both teenagers who were now standing close together in battle stances.
After firing off another quick shot aimed right in the center of the duo, Roman headed for Weiss trying to take out her quick as she had more ranged options.
Seeing Roman coming Weiss readied her rapier and managed to deflect the blow from Melodic Cudgel, before Jaune was quickly at her side once again as he tried to push the thief away from Weiss.
Seeing the duo close to each other again Roman backed up a bit more trying to formulate an escape plan as this was only wasting time and wasting time meant wasting away in prison after being caught.
He was getting ready to fire off a shot aimed at the Beacon students' feet for some smoke cover when the sound of a rocket was heard. After quickly looking up, the thief saw a silver locker come crashing down behind him. The locker didn't block his path but the smoke from the landing did give some ample soft cover.
Unfortunately for the gentleman thief this smoke was quickly blown away just a few seconds later as the wind from a bullhead engine filled the street, causing everyone to look up at the incoming aircraft.
"Ok now it's definitely time to leave, thankfully these kids are still green." Roman said under his breath as he fired his last round towards the two, before quickly scanning the area for Neo.
Being barely able to hear anything over the roar of the bullhead engines, the whistle of the gunshot from Melodic Cudgel went almost unheard until it was too late.
Jaune and Weiss turned with wide eyes as the shot came screaming towards them. Jaune quickly tried to raise his shield but the shot was already there as both went flying.
As they both groaned and tried to get up, they watched the ginger thief they had been fighting shatter into pieces of glass, and proceeded to simply fall back onto where they had landed.
As they turned their heads at the sound of frantic footsteps approaching from both sides Jaune saw Willow running down the street towards them while Weiss saw Professor Goodwitch, and Headmasters Ozpin and Ironwood running towards them as well.
"Are you two alright?" Willow asked as she dropped to her knees besides the two.
"Yeah I'm fine." Jaune said with a cough. "Might have gotten some smoke in my lungs though from that last blast." Jaune said as he finished with a smile before turning his head towards the heiress. "Weiss?"
"Yeah I'll be fine once we get back to Beacon and get some treatment. I think that landing from that last blast twisted my ankle though." She said with a groan as she sat up and rubbed her ankle.
"Oh thank Oum you two are okay." Professor Goodwitch said as the trio got next to Weiss, Jaune, and Willow.
"Yeah we'll be alright Ms. Goodwitch. Was just a little run in with some criminal is all." Jaune said with a sheepish smile.
"I'd hardly call fighting the most wanted criminal 'some criminal' mr. Arc. Although you appear to have held yourself quite well for being in dress clothes with only a shield." Ozpin said as he placed the end of his cane down and looked over the trio in front of him.
"Looks like we'll have to get some treatment for Ms Schnee here though. That ankle doesn't look too good." Ironwood noted as he looked over the two students and mother.
"I might be able to solve that actually. I think I have enough aura left and I haven't tested it yet on sprains but it should work, I think." Jaune said as he placed his hand on Weiss' ankle and tried to remember the emotions and channel his aura to heal.
After a few seconds a white light appeared from his hands and began to envelop the heiress' ankle before after 10 seconds or so it puttered out.
"Guess I don't have enough aura left, sorry Weiss. I probably should've checked my aura levels first before trying to heal you." Jaune said with a sad look on his face from his failure to heal his sister, team member and step daughter.
"Don't worry Jaune, it feels better anyway. While there's no way I'm going to go run a marathon, I think I can walk now." Weiss said as she shakily stood up before Willow quickly went over and stood next to her daughter to help support her weight.
"Oz, are you thinking?" Ironwood whispered to his fellow headmaster.
"Not now James." Ozpin quietly replied before turning back towards the Schnee trio. "Regardless, we'll be having the medical team look at you all when they arrive. Hopefully that will be the rest of the excitement for the night."
Jaune and Weiss quickly exchanged nervous glances before looking back towards the headmaster. Ozpin, having lived countless years, recognized these looks the students had and sighed.
"No, you both aren't in trouble with me. You were simply enjoying a dinner when the dinner was robbed. The only thing you might get in trouble with is the owner of the eatery who's window you broke through, and speaking of, here he comes now." Ozpin said as he motioned to the man running towards them.
"Jaune, are you okay boy?" Van Slate said as he approached the young knight.
"Yeah Mr. Slate, I'm fine, don't worry." Jaune said as he brought his hands up in front of him.
"That's a relief." He said before giving Jaune a friendly slap on the back of the head. "It's Van though Jaune, come on lad. You're adult enough to fight a criminal, you're adult enough to use my first name."
"Alright Van." Jaune said with a laugh before moving his hand to nervously rub his neck. "Sorry about the window by the way."
"Oh it's fine. 'Tis what I got the insurance for, well that and natural disasters but you get the point. I'm just happy you scared the man off, you helped stop everyone from being robbed. You're a hero lad and hopefully now Torchwick won't come back again after being forced to run off like that." Van said with a smile.
"Yeah, hopefully." Jaune said with a similar laugh.
"Gentlemen this is all nice but I do need to be getting my students back to Beacon to be looked over and I'll need to be having a discussion with Mr. Arc as well."
"Alright, well you be safe Jaune. You too ladies." Van said with a nod as he waved at Willow and Weiss before walking back towards the entrance of his restaurant.
It was at that moment a black car came pulling up and Winter, Whitley, and Klein quickly stepped out and rushed over to Jaune, Willow, and Whitley.
"My word, are you three alright?" Klein asked as the butler, daughter, and son trio approached the other three.
"Yes Klein. We are alright thanks to Jaune and Weiss' actions." Willow answered.
"And they shall be thanked for their efforts today, but for now I think it best if everyone returns to their specific lodgings for the night." Ozpin said.
"I think that might be for the best. Ozpin if you will escort your students back and then Winter can go back with her mother, brother, and Mr. Sieben." Ironwood said as he scanned the surrondings.
"Let us do that indeed." Ozpin said before gesturing to the bullhead he arrived on. "Come along children, let us return to Beacon." Ozpin said as he turned and began making his way to the bullhead behind him along with Professor Goodwitch.
"I'll see you later Willow." Jaune said as he gave her a kiss on the cheek causing Weiss to gag at the scene while Willow and Winter chuckled at her reaction.
"Bye dear." Willow said as she wrapped Jaune in a hug before doing the same thing to Weiss. "You two be safe alright?" Willow told them as she turned and made her way to the car along with Klein, Whitley, and Winter.
"Let's go students." Ironwood said as he walked to join the Ozpin and Professor Goodwitch on the bullhead and after a quick wave Jaune and Weiss followed behind.
"So just to make sure we're not in trouble, right?" Jaune said as the bullhead began its flight back to Beacon.
"No Mr. Arc, as Headmaster Ozpin said, you are not in trouble."
"However," the headmaster in question said, causing Jaune to momentarily halt the sigh he had begun letting out. "Tomorrow I want you to report to my office before your first class. Don't worry as Miss Goodwitch said you are not in trouble, I merely wish to speak to you a little after you've had time to collect your thoughts some more after tonight." Ozpin said with a small smile as the bullhead began coming in for a landing.
After everyone else had exited the bullhead Jaune saw who was there waiting for him, his partner, who immediately ran up and wrapped her arms around him.
"Pyr?" Jaune asked, very confused.
"I was in the locker room cleaning my weapons when I saw Weiss' weapon locker take off. Then yours took off right afterwards, so I checked the news and saw what was happening in Vale. I'm so glad you're safe." Pyrrha said with a smile as she let go of the blond knight and stepped back a little.
"Of course I was fine, Pyrrha. After all, I had your training." Jaune said with a big smile causing the redhead to blush in embarrassment.
"Well, I'm just happy you're alright. Both of you." Pyrrha said as she looked towards Weiss as well.
"Thank you Pyrrha, I appreciate your concern. However, I will say I am simply exhausted so I will be going off to bed for the night. Goodnight you two." Weiss said with a wave as she began walking towards the dorms.
"Well I guess we should probably do the same eh Pyr?" Jaune said as he turned to face his partner before she gave a nod and they began walking back to their own dorm room.
Meanwhile on the other side of town Willow and everyone else had reached their hotel and everyone had gone back to their respective rooms, Winter entered Willow's room.
"Goodbye mother, I'm going to be heading back to Beacon now. Well, the Atlas command ship anyway." Winter said as she gave her mother a hug.
"Goodbye dear daughter. Oh and can you do me a favor and send me the files for tonight from Ironwood, Beacon, and anything you might be able to inquire about from Vale itself?" Willow asked with a mischievous smile.
"Oh? Going to use this in your favor, mother?" Winter asked with a raised eyebrow and a smirk of her own, knowing exactly what Willow was planning.
"I don't know what you're talking about dear. I just want to raise a concern with the council about how I'm reluctant to acquire a property here, an expensive one at that, to set up an office after being held up at dinner." Willow said with a small smirk.
"Well get what you can then mom. After all there's a silver lining in every dark night." Winter said as she walked out and shut the door behind her.
"Oh believe me, I intend to." Willow said to herself as she sent an email to Councilman Grayson requesting a meeting sometime tomorrow.
A/N: Shorter chapter than usual but it seemed like a good stopping point.
Jaune fights a cocky Roman who only realizes he should've taken Jaune more seriously when it was too late. Thankfully for him Neo sure does come in handy, doesn't she? Looks like Willow is going to try and turn misfortune into her fortune, or at the very least a little discount/tax cut. Will she succeed? What do Ozpin and Ironwood have in plan for our blond knight? And will Jaune gain fame for fighting Roman 1v1 and helping thwart the robbery. Find out next time on Dragon Ball Z, I mean A Royal Knights Drunken Marriage. :)
